A warranty is a promise from the manufacturer to fix certain problems with the car for a specific time or distance. A 10-year, 100,000 mile warranty means they will cover repairs for that long or until you've driven that many miles, whichever comes first.

But hey, attach it to the end of the stick

Anyway, here they are now on The Car Pro Show.

they will help you find just the right one.
That's what they do.
Todd Chambliss is here.
Person with the used pet store is what I'm hearing from
Mr. announcer.
And he don't lie.
Apparently not, so I guess I'm wrong,
but using a gerbil for a dust buster.
Boy, that's a new one right there.
Well, yeah, and it's timely because...
Oh, the Kia Soul.
The Kia Hamsters died.
Yeah, that's a shame right there.
That was in the newsletter yesterday.
It was, as a matter of fact.
I remember seeing that.
You know, all kidding aside, I hate to see the Soul go away.
It's a unique car, for sure.
Man, I've recommended that thing for so many years.
Like a small SUV?
Small to medium?
Yeah, it's a very small SUV.
Great gas mileage.
10-year, 100,000 mile warranty.
Just like you get with all the Kia's.
Easy to drive, great visibility.
You know, but...
Truth is, vehicles under $20,000, like the Soul,
are slowly going away.
And you would think with the way things are going up
that that would be the opposite, actually,
with people might be drawn to that,
trying to save a few dollars,
but I guess the market is changing
and sometimes changes means things go away.
Well, and look, you know,
we all hope the tariffs are good for America,
but it's having an effect on the auto industry.
And it's having an effect on prices.
So you hope that you pay more for a new car,
but you get it back in other ways,
like tax cuts and that sort of thing.
That's the hope, but, you know,
nobody can sell a car under $20,000 at all
and make money.
And you don't want your car company going out of business.
In fact, Monday morning, 8.15 central time,
I will be on Fox 26 in Houston,
the Fox News affiliate,
and we're going to be talking about prices.
And so you can stream them live at fox26hustin.com,
or if you're in Houston,
if you're one of our Houston listeners,
tune in to Fox on Monday morning.
I will be there live via Zoom.
You seem to go there quite often.
You were there, I think there was a video this past week, right?
I was there last Monday morning.
Same time, 8.15, this coming up Monday morning.
I think they like me.
They seem to.
We'll see.
See how long that goes.
Yeah, 800-926-7777, 800-926-7777,
and Sherri in Tyler, Texas, called first today.
Sherri, what can I help you with?
Good morning.
My husband and I are looking for a replacement pickup,
and we're looking for a midsize,
and we're thinking about the Tacoma,
but we're looking for something used and with low mileage,
and another thing is we're looking for something
that may be about 22, 23 model,
but I've read a few things that say that there's a couple of things
that might not be good.
They might not be good year models.
What is your opinion on that?
Sherri, I can go online and I can find something bad
about every vehicle ever made.
It doesn't make it true just because it's online.
The Tacoma has probably been
the most reliable pickup ever made.
Wow.
I've seen them with my own eyes go a million miles.
That's not the norm.
The norm is 300,000, maybe 400,000 if you do good maintenance.
We get these keyboard warriors, which is what I call them,
and they get online and they post bad things about a vehicle,
but they don't tell you that they didn't do their maintenance.
They didn't change the oil.
There's legitimate vehicles with problems,
but when I see somebody post something about the Toyota Tacoma,
I'm immediately going to question their legitimacy
because for the rest of the world, the Tacoma has been outstanding.
Now, with that said, the Tacoma holds its value better
than anything else in that segment.
That's not really what you want if you're looking to go used.
What you want is a great vehicle that doesn't hold its value very well.
The other only negative I would say about the Tacoma
is some people complain about the ride,
that it's got a rough ride, and it does.
It's really built for, you know, if you want to go off-road,
you can go off-road with this thing and it'll do great.
The suspension system is stiff.
That's the way they built it.
Probably one of the reasons it does last as long as it does.
If I were doing it, I'd personally look at a Ford Ranger.
And the reason for that is they're a lot cheaper
and it's got a better ride and a quieter interior.
So keep that in mind.
Will the Ford go 300,000 miles?
No, no, no, no, no.
No.
But if you want 150,000 to 175,000 miles and you do the maintenance,
they'll do that without any problem.
And I've seen that many times.
So bear that out.
Give it some thought.
If you want to come into DFW to find one,
I've got some great dealers here that'll take amazing care of you.
Or if you want to look local, either way.
I appreciate the call, Sherry.
Life to Guess is already for the Classic Car of the Week
that's on our Facebook page.
Got a Facebook and Lookup Car Pro.
You'll see the page there.
You should really follow that and like that page.
If you like a more direct link to that,
there's a link at the bottom of carpro.com right there on the first page.
If you want to go and take a stab at guessing the Classic Car of the Week,
I recommend you do so.
Just guess the correct year-making model.
You could win a custom auto heat shield for free.
And just go again to the comments section on our Facebook page.
Make your guess.
And then Monday, all the correct guesses go into a hat and we'll draw a winner.
And that auto heat shield, by the way,
that's good for winter or summer.
It can actually draw the heat in during the winter and kick it back out during the summer.
So go there and make your guess.
Good luck to you.
Great American-made product.
I love that.
Custom cut to your windshield.
If you've got one of those generic sunshades.
They just buy at the convenience store or whatever.
Yeah, where half your windshield is still open and letting the sun come in.
This is cut to your exact vehicle.
Yep.
How cool is that?
Yeah, it's like a perfect fit there and it blocks out the most sun you're going to get of any of those things.
800-926-7777.
800-926-7777.
I've got a lion open, which is rare.
Grab it now.
Let's talk.
Tell me what you're thinking about doing.
I will tell you if I think that's a good idea or if it's not.
If I've got a better idea, are you curious about buying versus leasing?
Are you down to two or three different cars?
I've probably driven them and done a review of them.
And I can tell you what I think would be your best choice in your next set of wheels.
Before we go back to the phones, I just want to share with you that as October has rolled along here,
I'm getting more and more of a sense that the dealers are getting very anxious.
They're getting worried to some degree.
Business this month hasn't been as good as I think a lot of people thought it was going to be
because we've had a great year so far.
But now the inventory is starting to really stack up at car dealers.
When that happens, that is the time you get bargains.
It's also the time the manufacturers throw more incentives that direction,
which they did just this week.
A lot of them added incentives on.
So with that, I promise you this, I will tell you when it's a lousy time to buy a car
and I'll tell you when it's a good time to buy a car, it's a buyer's market right now through the end of this month.
Let's talk to John in Dallas.
Hello John, what can I do for you sir?
Hey Jerry, good morning sir.
Hi buddy.
Appreciate all your service over the years.
Thank you very much.
I got a 2015 GMC Terrain.
Been a good vehicle.
All of a sudden, six months ago, eight months ago, it's beginning to peel on the paint.
It's white in color and that seems to be a dominant theme.
It's all over the internet.
It's not just mine.
It's rampant enough to where big group tried to start.
Maybe a class action lawsuit.
It's got thrown out and denied.
So, the point is, it's an issue.
I have a question on how to rectify this, go to GM and ask or go to the dealer.
What would you suggest?
And to follow that, are you seeing the same issue with later models?
I'm thinking about getting another one, a used one, but maybe another one.
I hear this from time to time on a ton of different vehicles.
Not just GM or Ford or Toyota.
Toyota had a big problem with it five or six years ago.
The problem you're going to run into is the dealer is not going to eat it.
The dealer didn't paint it.
The dealer didn't cause the problem.
They shouldn't eat it.
General Motors, if they do it for you,
they're going to have to do it for a whole lot of people.
So, they ain't going to do it.
I hate to tell you that, but it's 10 years old now.
There is, you know, warranties are for a specified time in mileage.
And General Motors is going to tell you that it's due to outside elements.
You're a car wash, bird dumpings, rock chips that starts, you know,
and rock chips, they do.
They will sometimes start chipping and that'll flake.
And the more you drive, the more comes off, etc.
The only thing I'm telling you, John, is you can try,
but I think you're wasting your time trying to get them to do anything.
You know, you could either fix it or if you're going to trade it,
trade it the way it is and let the dealer fix it.
And because they can do it for a whole lot less than you can
and they'll only knock off their cost.
Classic GMC is my local dealer there in Dallas.
They are great people to do business with.
They're part of the Classic family and they're at my website.
I wish I had better news about it.
The car pro Jerry Reynolds knows things you just can't know.
So call it at 1-800-926-7777.
And next up, Teresa in Belleville.
Teresa, welcome. How can I help you?
Hi, can you hear me okay?
Yes, I can.
Okay, just making sure.
I'm pulling over because I was driving and it's a long story.
I don't want to bore you with why I can't have you in my car right now.
But I'm about to park.
So anyway, I live in Belleville, Texas and I have probably too much information
that we had a horrible hail storm in March of last year
and destroyed two of our vehicles.
So I finally purchased a 3013 Lexus GS350 with only 42,000 miles on it.
Nice.
And I love it.
At the same time, for some reason it feels too luxurious for me.
I know that sounds crazy, but I'm used to having it.
I didn't even check to see if the back seats folded down.
That was really dumb and they don't.
And so like if I need to take my dog to the vet or I need to transport
something small, like if I were thinking of selling it outright to an individual
or trading in it, I probably wouldn't get what I would want.
Oh wait, stop there because you might be surprised.
Oh really?
The GS is one of those vehicles that once they quit making them, everybody wanted them.
They didn't buy them when they were new, but now everybody's looking for one.
And there's still a good number of sedan buyers out there, especially with Lexus.
So it's got better value than what you probably think.
So what do you think you want to go to?
What were you driving before the Lexus?
Nothing like it.
A 2010 Ford Fusion SEL, which I loved, which, you know, I know it sounds crazy,
but it had great pickup and anyway, it got held better than a Hellstorm.
Yeah.
What are you thinking next?
Well, I mean, I guess maybe some type of SUV, a smaller SUV.
I mean, would you recommend like a Subaru or another Toyota like that?
Yep.
This one was priced at $189 last September versus last year, which I think was a fairly good price.
Yeah, I agree.
But now I really don't have the idea of what a trade in would be.
But anyway, I'll listen to what you have to say.
All right, Theresa, let me ask you this because this is a this is a short segment.
Can you hang on with me for just a few minutes?
All right, we're going to put you on hold.
You'll be first color up when we come back and we will be back right after this.

Well, and you guys just really loved my commentary this week.
It was good stuff.
Holy cow.
I wrote about the fact that Journal Motors is writing off $1.6 billion in electric vehicles because they're rethinking their strategy.
Interesting.
Which I told them in an article I wrote in 2017 that I titled Stop the Electric Car Insanity.
Yeah.
And I told them what was going to happen.
And you know, I'm not right about everything, but I nailed this one.
I think so.
Eight years ago.
Yeah.
And you guys really enjoyed that article.
I've got another commentary coming out this week and you, our friends in California are really going to like that one.
We were going back to Teresa in Belleville, Texas in the Houston area.
We were talking about the fact that she has a very nice Lexus GS 350 sedan and she's wanting to go to a midsize or small SUV.
So, Teresa, I would tell you, you ask about the Subaru Crosstrek.
That's one of my favorites.
No question.
I love it for various reasons.
Excuse me.
Safety is the big one.
It's one of the safest SUVs you could ever get in.
The RAV4 is a great choice, especially for longevity.
It's easy, 200,000 miles.
And if I were going to get a RAV4, I would get a hybrid version of the RAV4.
But the question I have for you is, are you thinking new or used?
Used.
Used.
Okay.
How about what year?
Oh, gosh.
Excuse me for not being educated.
No, it's okay.
I'm just trying to get a...
I still owe on this one, right?
So, I'm not upside down or anything because I've been paying more than what we do just trying to get it paid off early.
Yeah.
But I probably wouldn't go the last couple of years.
I mean, maybe 20 or older.
Okay.
20 or 20 or older.
All right.
Not a problem.
20, 20.
Can't speak today.
And is smaller...
Is that the right size for you?
Or would...
Do you haul things or carry a lot of people?
You know, like if I wanted to buy a chair in a garage sale, I want to be able to...
At least be able to accommodate something for transport or a dog crate or something like that.
I don't want it to be teeny tiny.
Like the fusion is sort of in between.
I mean, I wouldn't say it's tiny, but I'm kind of used to that size.
I had a Dodge Carango years ago at 05 STB and, you know, it's nice to everything, but I'm not really looking for anything that large.
Okay.
So, you're going to get the cargo with either one of those two because you got that height, you know?
Right.
Some of them are deeper.
Some of them are wider.
Some of them are taller.
But you got plenty of room back there.
The third one I would add in to add to your shopping list is the Chevy Equinox.
And it's going to be the least expensive of the three that we've talked about.
And it's a very, very good SUV.
So, give that some thought.
You can actually search for usedcarsatcarpro.com.
That's near the top of the page.
It'll say, choose a dealer or search for a car, roughly.
So, you can look there and narrow your search down.
Anything you find there will be at one of my dealers.
So, you'll know who to talk to, the whole deal.
And I would suggest that you do that.
The used car market is just now starting to drop.
So, I would do something sooner than later.
I think you'll lose some value in your Lexus if you wait.
Okay.
Okay.
Good to know.
Okay.
So, the route would maybe go to 200,000 miles for great maintenance.
The Subaru Cross Truck would maybe, what's its longevity?
It's about the same.
It's about 200,000.
And the Equinox, possibly less.
160, 175, somewhere in there, probably not quite as far,
but still a good one, especially if you do your maintenance.
None of those have V6 though, correct?
No, you might find an Equinox going back a few years with a V6,
but if you drive the four cylinders, you're going to see,
you're going to think it's a V6.
Oh, okay.
They've got that much power these days.
Wow.
Okay.
And do you have your models in mind that are...
No, not really.
I was just trying to get a feel for how far back you were going when you're looking used.
Well, I was planning to go back to 2013.
It's just that it was in such great condition and low mileage.
Yeah.
And look, I'd rather have a vehicle that's older with lower miles
than a newer one with more miles.
I'll take that any day of the week.
Just because the thing that really ages the car is not the years,
it's the miles and the maintenance has been done on it.
So you're going to want to be sure.
If you go to one of my dealers, ask them to show you the history report on the car.
They'll do that.
They do that for my listeners so you don't have to buy one.
But if you do have to buy one, go to autocheck.com and see what they can do.
Okay.
If you need me, call me back next Saturday.
I'll be here.
Okay.
Yes, sir.
Thanks for your help.
Thank you.
Appreciate the call.
800-926-7777.
I've got a line open right now.
It can be yours.
Don't typically have one, so I don't know what everybody's doing today, but I got one.
Sorry.
800-926-7777 and lots of good dealers at carpro.com.
When we come back, I'll tell you some other articles that you loved in the newsletter.
And welcome back to the Car Pros show with Jerry Reynolds, the car pro.
We were talking about the newsletter just a moment ago.
One of the biggest clicked articles from this week's newsletter, which rental car company
is the best.
It's a JD Power study.
Of course, you're a big fan of the JD Power stuff right now.
Well, I think they do a good job.
Yeah.
And in particular, they were talking about the criteria of things like the ease of rental,
the pickup drop off level of trust, all kinds of things.
And digital tools where a lot of people have kind of gotten the clue now they're bypassing
the desk and they're going straight to the vehicle.
And that saves you over seven, eight minutes on average, they say.
Oh, I'd say at least.
And if you're by the way, in a pro tip, because we got caught when we took a trip, if you
don't have a membership to one of their clubs, like either the point club, like the VIP club
or their, their tears that you do that not only saves you time, you get kind of moved
up to the top of the line.
Also, you accrue points to it's always good, but enterprise did well.
They were number one, just to give you an idea of what we're talking about.
And the others are ranked there.
It's an interesting article.
If you're going to be doing some car running, it's worth you check it out.
Oh, it is.
And another little tip when you get to the car, walk around it with your phone.
The video part, right?
And video.
Yes.
Yeah.
Especially home in on if there's damage anywhere, even a little scratch.
Yeah.
Look at the wheels.
They're going to try to ding you for the wheels if they've got scratches.
Oh, really?
Oh, that's a big one.
Didn't know that.
Yeah.
Interesting.
And the rental car company that OJ Simpson used to love.
Yeah.
They're the worst.
Are they?
Really?
If you're too young to know who OJ Simpson was or what?
What happened with him?
The car company that he endorsed.
Which we shall not name.
No, we shan't.
No, not it.
I give you enough to figure it out.
I think you can figure that out.
Santa Clarita, California, we go.
David, welcome.
Good morning, Jerry.
Just want to let you know, thank you.
I bought a brand new car a month ago with your help.
Oh, good.
I bought another Lexus.
I bought another Lexus.
It's my sixth Lexus.
I went from an older ES 300 to a 2025 ES 300 hybrid luxury.
Oh, nice.
Good move.
Yeah.
It's a great car, but here's my problem.
So I drove it for about four or five days and I started to have air issues.
Like I was in an airplane.
My ears were just like building up and I thought I had an air infection.
But I went online and I guess it was a common thing with a lot of these new cars.
They have what's called an ANC, noise cancellation in the radio.
Yep.
And I guess for some people, it affects their ears.
I brought it to Lexus.
They're really nice.
They hooked up the computer.
They disconnected it.
But I'm still having little issues because it has the higher upgraded Mark Livingston
sound system and all that.
I'm just still not feeling comfortable.
I don't want to get rid of the car because I'd probably lose on it.
I got a really good deal.
Is there anything you can suggest to try to help out with the air issue?
Have you tried just cracking a window?
I did, but you still get the air noise coming in the car.
So it's not so quiet.
Brother, I don't get stumped very often, but I think you got me on this one.
I got you, huh?
Yeah.
I've not heard anybody else say this was a problem.
Have you talked to Lexus themselves, the factory?
They're very accommodating.
Try that.
My next step.
Yeah, try that.
Go to Lexus.
Go to Lexus.com.
They've got an owner's area there and their contact information will be there.
