Corey’s Big News + The Racing Memory That Started It All

Not for anything bad. He's having his fourth baby with his wife Kelly

So we wish him the best, but he can't be here this morning

So it's me and executive producer Kyran. We're gonna break down all things NASCAR Ryan Blaney's incredible drive

After a lot of pitstop woes

Indy car was in town. I did the Xfinity race. I raced some modify yesterday myself

We got F1 and NHRA a lot to break down buckle up. Let's go

Stacking them deep selling them cheap. It tastes like gasoline rubber and victory. Where's that here stack?

I'm Ryan Flores. I've been a tire changer for the last 20 years. I changed tires in the O'Reilly series now for the 88

It was William Byron this weekend Kyran Brent. You are from South Africa originally grew up in Canada

But you are an American redneck now. You're here in

Charlotte, North Carolina at a company called Let's Be Friends. That's who produces this show

But you guys are well versed in racing. We've been doing a lot in the motorsport space

I remember looking over the dashboard of my my uncle's Subaru rally card

It was a WRC car out of South Africa and racing that was that was the first hook when you feel that turbo spool and hit you

My first introduction to NASCAR was actually Tony Stewart and Home Depot. Oh, just the sense of seeing this dude

And I was like this guy looks like an American

He looks corn-fed well bred and just like that's who it is and then I learned about Crossman truck series and

Coming from a South Africa. We had not pickup trucks. We had Buckeys, which were the Smola version Buckeys

That's like a Ford Ranger best gas station in America. I mean Buckeys

But it's all a little difference. It's Buckeys were a quarter ton like your Ford Ranger be considered a buckie just like in

Australia where they call me you something similar. Yeah, but the youths are slightly bigger. Yeah, and so for us it was these people race

Trucks, yeah, because we have the Hilux. We have America buddy Dakar where we have that sort of thing

And so seeing that I was like that that was the hook into NASCAR

So for me that was where it went. I went more the road course IMSA time attack that world

Spent some time in Indy car F1

But NASCAR has been one of those things where I was always they just turn left and then you go to a race, right?

I want to I think it was the out in California. It was in Fontana, Montana

Yeah, and it was the full one of the 400 races and it was just a oh

This is you feel the rumble and I was like, oh, this is this is special. Well, it's crazy you say that because I

All I've known is NASCAR forever and tie it back in this weekend

I just know how loud it is how crazy it is and we had Indy car there with us on Saturday and

the

So two things to take away from Indy car. They are so fast. It is

Amazing watching them. I don't know how fast they are. I think they're like five seconds faster than us

But they're so quiet. It's like when they were running

I had ear I got ear plugs out because when we get to the track on Saturday

The Indy car races before the O'Reilly's race

so I have to glue lug nuts and work in the pits and

You know when there's cup qualifying or a truck race right before us

You got to wear your plugs because it's just too loud

Everybody your plugs out there. I'm like, are they running yet?

Like I thought they were under caution

But those those cars are so much more quiet than a cup car so I'd be interested to hear from the fans

Because we've heard that like it's just too loud. It's too loud. Who says that a lot of people really because I'm watching at home

Hey, I'm with you, but I

Wonder if that's something they go man. This is kind of nice than being a little more quiet

I think that it's part of who we are part of our DNA being loud v8 American muscle cars

But it was really cool to see Indy and it's so much different

The reason I love

So yesterday it's getting yesterday a little bit

Because this will tie it right in we went to caraway Speedway for their 61st home opener

So I have I haven't been off on Sundays in 19 years. This is the first time that I've been able to

Just be a little bit more laid-back of a schedule and because of that I like to race a lot myself

I race midgets and modifies and have a have a modified. We just ran a new somerna

We got a win down there

It was really cool and this car was ready and I was kind of looking at schedules from different tracks around and caraway had their

61st home opener this weekend. I was like, man, let's it's on Sunday. Let's go there. I'm gonna have Sunday off

I didn't take into account the time change because we flew back from Phoenix, which was

It was three hours behind and then or it was two hours behind and then we had daylight savings when we flew

So when we landed it was light outside. It was seven o'clock in the morning

Went home took a shower real quick left my shop at 830 with the truck and trailer and drove up the caraway

And then we just had a long day there. They hate it's so much different

and

To tie this back in man, I just loved

Going there and walking around the pits

And I love seeing what like the guys with street stocks or four cylinders the way they get to the racetrack the innovation that they have because

On in the NASCAR space you have all of the resources

To make anything you want

but if you go and you watch a guy that's doing this in a hobby stock and the way that they make the make stuff make

Their trailer work make their pit boxes do stuff to their car because they don't have the resources

They have to be a little bit more. I don't know like tactful and it's really cool to see how they do stuff

And I feel like I learned just as much from those guys

As I do from going and watching Indy car race like the Indy cars pit boxes are so much different

It's even to the fact of like they're fueling stations. They don't have gas cans. They have

Like these big tanks and they plug in with a hose from them and their gravity fed

But they have water buckets all down pit road

So they have a 55 gallon drum full of water and two buckets next to it full of water

So that way if there's a fire, they're just throwing water on it and they're in each pit stall

That's something that we don't have in NASCAR. We have firemen there

So and they they run different fuel, which is which is why it's different

but it was just crazy to see and I've been around Indy car a lot being at Penske but

Practicing and being at the race are two totally different things and it was really cool to have that all together at one place this weekend

It was really cool for the fans

And they start the weekend off with Joseph Newgarden. David Maluchus

It was dominating the race. He just got that he just got signed with Penske

It's like a dream come true for him

But Joseph Newgarden's like the king of ovals right now in Indy cars and Penske went winless last year

And they come out and they win the second race of the season saw Palo get wrecked early

He's won like every race. He got wrecked early, but I

Was really I'm a I'm a huge willpower fan

Because just will has been around for like his name

That's what will's got a great name, but he's been around for a long time and you know

I kind of got let go from Penske and had to find his way and he was leading the race there late and

It was like one of those racing deals where he kind of came up in their car

Car was like on his outside and he got a right rear flat and took him out of the race

But it was just a really cool event

Then we got it was a quick turnaround time. We got right in our race

we had William Byron in the 88 this weekend and

Just didn't quite have the pace that we thought we're gonna have

We ran third to fifth all night and then got got tore up at the end

but Justin Allgaier was able to

Just put the team on his back and he drove to the wind

Jesse love dominate the race

But Justin Allgaier came through at the end and won that one and it was it was a great night

Those are my teammates now. They were pity right next to us

it was really cool to celebrate with them and

Really cool to celebrate a win like we talked about yesterday at caraway to put a bow on that

We went there random modified qualifying on the pole won the race. So it was a it was a really really fun weekend all the way around

I mean

This was my first day to one of 500 with next-gen cars at the prior race I went to with the old series

It felt louder. Is that since you've been around them or is that changed at all? So for me, it's louder now

Because you got to think about where I stand I stand in the infield

So the pipes with all the old cars always came out the right side

So they always shot towards the grandstands now the pipes on the next-gen car come out both sides

So you have that noises is going both directions the biggest adjustment for me was I

Changed the I've always changed front tires

So you change the right front and the left front and when you come to the left side and the car leaves

The tailpipes around the right rear so you don't really hear it. Well now the

The headers dump right behind the left front tire

So that thing is leaving and the it's going like right across your face

So the first time it left I was like, holy crap that was loud

So that changed it so that's where I was a little bit different

you become used to it right away but like the first couple of times I was like, oh my goodness and

We had we have better radios and stuff now

With comms and noise canceling all sorts of different things that we didn't have when we started with next-gen five years ago

So that helps

But yeah, the next-gen car is is a new animal for sure

We were watching in the pits and something confused me just in that is the safety thing was an SVG spun

Yeah, it was a tire issue. What a however you spun. Yes

Well, I didn't know it first came there the chicken of the egg right because when you spin out you're gonna get flat tires

So but he did rally to like an 11th place finish, but he so he spins out then the car shuts off

Yeah, you can't drive out of a spinning. How what's that?

It's it's different in every situation

So in that situation when you spin and you're in front of the field there

You just kind of lock it down and when you lock it down the motor can shut off and then you got to cycle it and get it

Restarted sometimes they fire easier or not and then sometimes you kind of have a slow lazy spin you keep it running

but

The way that he spun the first time

Off of turn three there kind of onto the front stretch by the start finish line

There's a lot of cars coming by you

so

What you don't want to keep doing is keep driving it in the traffic because that's how you cause a big wreck and we saw a

Bunch of big wrecks yesterday. It was crazy. We saw especially the one with Joey Logano where

He dove onto the apron came back up and AJ Elmdinger had just filled and clipped them and

it just

He was spun out and like the next 10 cars got by him

then he spun back in the traffic where SVG just locked it down and

Shut the car off then it was hard to get it refired

Then you have flats and with these cars when you get a flat there on the rub blocks

Which saved the belly pan so the rub blocks just think they're hard steel digging into the ground so

Well, NASCAR has come up with because we've all seen it. We've talked about it for years

That when you have a flat tire you can't drive these cars back to the pits all your days done because you're a couple laps down

They keep counting the laps under caution

So in the every time the pace car passes you you're another lap down and you're just stuck there

So what they came up with is an air system. That's right

In the driver's window they'll walk up. They'll plug this air system in there

It'll charge the shocks and push them all the way out

Then you can drive the car back to the pit stall when they get the pistol and change the tires

You pull that there's a relief valve on it. You pull it it lets the shocks back down you keep going on with your race

So it's something that's really innovative that NASCAR has came up with

Super cool. So that saved his race and he was able to rally but as

As like new levels new devils right with SVG he keeps getting better keeps getting faster

But he's gonna keep stepping over that line and spinning out. I think he had a flat tire or two at another point

But man a lot of tire issues yesterday, and we were talking about that. So we had the TV spooled up

We were all watching the race together yesterday in the trailer a car away. It was a lot of fun and

What happens there and we talked about it at length

Last year for the championship race and Corey's talked about a lot

that air

Taken a little bit a couple tenths of air out of a tire

Especially the left rear of the right front is worth a lot of grip and a lot of speed

but when you run on low air like that at a place like

Phoenix where the transition from the banking to the flat apron of the track is very aggressive and the guys use that if

you have low air and you

Even just pull out of the pits wrong and load the tire wrong

It'll compromise the sidewall of the tire and it won't go flat right away

But as you run that thing's getting weaker and weaker and weaker and then all of a sudden it blows out

So it happened to chase briscoe on the left rear. We saw a bunch of right fronts

Kyle Bush kept having them and

It's just it's like you're playing Russian roulette with your tires all day long and it's like okay

We're gonna do this, but we're banking on somebody else having an issue before us and then it's even

Something that the drivers I think you saw less and less shortcutting of the dog leg yesterday

Especially early in runs because they know now that if I'm aggressive going from the banking to the flat

Early in a run the risk of my tires blowing out later in the run or in a couple laps is way higher

So everybody's getting a little smarter with that

But I'm team chaos. I love the chaos of tires blowing out

Crashes people, you know the bunch in the field back up and we had a ton of that yesterday at phoenix

I mean the one thing that really wouldn't say confused me or was just shocking to see was just

The continuous issues over and over and is there a way to cheat like how do you even bend a rule around that?

No, I said a lower air pressure and find that sweet spot. That's it

I don't think there's a way to cheat air

That's how they're getting there is you're getting too low on air because that's the the juice is worth the squeeze of speed

And you asked me yesterday. You're like, well, why not just put air in it?

And I think steve latart says it the best

he says

you can be

Uncomfortable or you can be slow you have to pick so

To be in the top five here you have to be uncomfortable all the time

You have to be uncomfortable on pit road pitting the card because you to go as fast as

Some of these teams are going you have to you have to live right on that edge

Same thing with the tires and the crew chiefs and the strategy and the drivers, right?

That's why we're seeing more crashes too

You can be uncomfortable

And be on the verge of wrecking or be on the verge of blowing a tire or be on the verge of having a loose wheel on pit road

Or you can be slow you can be safe, but you're going to run 20th or 25th and it's easy

To have a bad day and run 30th now, right? We're a good lap to the finish. It's yeah

It's you put yourself back there. Not often. Do you see a guy?

Do what ryan blaney did yesterday back to back pit road issues?

A loose loose left front and then a loose left rear the following pit stop

He got mired back to he was the last car in the lead lap

So he was essentially 40th drove all the way back to like the back side of the top 10 top 12

Pitted had a loose left rear had to stop in the gonos box

They tighten the left rear goes all the way back to the back and drives back to the front again

And that's so challenging as a pit crew guy

Couple things the 20 car who they were racing right now is the hottest team in the sport

So you're coming down there. They're so fast

They've been together for a long time the 12th team has a lot of new guys on it

They say team you mean the car or the actual team the pit crew. There's only one way to get there and it is

consistency

equals confidence

And confidence equals speed you can't skip any of the steps

So you have to be consistent first and the consistency comes

From working together for years

In practice at the racetrack

Knowing each other and then you build this consistency and then you get confident

Right, and then you know what each other is going to do. It's like a dance. You know where someone's going to be

You know you're you're just

You're almost in sync

Fully with the guy next to you

You can tell by the way his elbow moves if it's a little weird that you have to check off and make sure that wheels

Tight in a tenth of a second or a hundredth of a second

And then from that

Confidence comes speed because now you feel but now you're

Your threshold for being uncomfortable is way higher, right? Your your stop was a 9o, right? That was uncomfortable for you

Now it's an 8 5 that's uncomfortable. So that all moves together

A clean air was king yesterday and you didn't want to give that 12 car clean air that that was for sure

But shout out to those guys. They fought all day. I texted blaney last night. He just texted me this morning

He said i'm proud of everybody that they just kept fighting all day and that's what it's about, right? A couple years time way

Less people are going to remember that the 12 had a tough day on pit road

Way more people are going to remember that the 12 team was in victory lane and that's what it's all about

It's not about winning the race off pit road. It's about winning the race. So

They won a stage. They won the race at a great points day

It's going to be some hard conversations this week in the shop

But i'm sure they can fix it and they're going to be better for what happened in phoenix

It's almost like golf, right? Like the like the year golfers talk all the time, but it's just about the next shot

The ball goes in the water. It's still about the next shot and you got to fail fast

you got to

Shake it off and move on so

That was the day that was the cup day yesterday a lot of stuff

was going on

On pit road and on the racetrack a lot of crashes syndrake took a big big hit

um, man, it was just an exciting race and

shifting gears from from the cup race

The f1 race was exciting too. What I saw from f1 this weekend

Was something that I haven't seen from f1 ever and that was

George russell and charles eclair swapping

The lead going back and forth with each other locking tires up making mistakes missing the corner being able to pass each other

Without using drs. Like it was a great

Race for me to watch the little bit that I got to see and I also saw oscar pietri

wreck before the green flag at his home race. I felt so bad for him. I had

sense of um

The scottie mclaughlin at indy

Man, it was just brutal, but it just shows like you owned it like a champ. Did he yeah, they said it was a hundred

I think it's a hundred kilowatts or something. Um over we have it here some one of the notes, but

He's like, hey, that was on me. It was unexpected. Um, but we've got parker clingerman saying

He slams f1 2036 rules after misades one two

So clingerman a former nascar driver called the 2006 regulations a betrayal arguing they prioritize battery power and car maker relevance

Over pure racing excitement the rules begin begin. Sorry the rules feature lighter cars active aerodynamics and a 50-50 split

Um between sustainable fuel engines and bigger batteries

Which drew complaints from drivers like lando norris and max for staff and who called the cars artificial and too formulae like

While mercedes dominated and and some praise closer racing fans insider's worry f1 is losing its thrilling edge and made the push for

sustainability

Who didn't complain

The two winners the Mercedes drivers and the ferrari's right and the two guys that have been dominating cities one two

well, yeah, but but the ferrari's are up front too, but

This is the classic case of drivers

Complaining about a car. We saw max for staff and spin out by himself and qualifying and crash

The mclarenz did not have the speed. We saw them have problems as well

so

The guys that have been dominating and won the last couple world championships

Right are complaining that the cars are artificial and they're not good because their cars aren't good

But the guys that are in mercedes that have been running third or fourth behind

The mclarenz and the red bulls they love it

So this is just a classic case of everything we've been talking about on the show for the last five years

You can't let the prisoners run the prison

because the drivers are always going to

have

their own agenda

And their agenda is to get in a victory lane

To win races to win championships inherently make more bonus money like that. That's what it's all about, right?

and

That we see that this weekend and that's where I have a hard time

I

Love racing it, but I am not

Like I'm the same way when I go race my indoor cars and something changes. I've been dominating now. I'm not I get frustrated

But I want to be more self-aware to not bash the series. I want to leave racing in a better spot than where I found it

so

If there is truly something wrong

Then just then say it, but if there's just truly something wrong and it's not working in your favor

That's why you're mad these guys got to check themselves

unfortunately

Their drivers race car drivers are very egotistical

So you're not always going to have that

so

it was a

It was a good weekend for them something yesterday at caraway that was

It's just it's good old racing, right? You have the what was the modifiers go out and they just

wreck

Oh, the truck the late models

The late models go out and they just take into the corner their dive bombing and there was some big shunts

There's big wrecks like and how far is you going on one of those cars down probably doing almost a hundred?

I mean and you're

Plowing into a wall

Yeah, the 44 car that was next to you guys went in the wall and they brought the thing back in

Rip the front half off and then sent it back out only for it to keep losing pieces on the street

Which caused two more wrecks and that you know, it's we get we get so bogged down with

And don't get me wrong. We love it. We're at the tip of the spear of motorsports

When you have a career in NASCAR

As long as we have you almost forget

It's so nice and kind of refreshing to go back and see the passion

And see what makes motorsports what it is and see how many people are at these short tracks each in a week

The pits were full yesterday at caraway and each one of those trailers has a story, right?

It's a family working together. It's a driver trying to do his best trying to get the car to the racetrack anybody that's

Gone racing know how hard knows how hard it is to just

Get the car loaded up and built and prepared for the race and have it not fall apart during the race

There's so many parts that can fall off

That bolts are loose or you didn't have enough oil in it or fuel filled like there's so many different things

So just to build your race car to go race

And it's really refreshing to go back and just see

The grassroots of it right on vicks the crown you heard you heard race control say

Well, I don't want to do a southern accent here, but we can't start the race because the boys are still at the auto parts store

Is that what they said? That's what they said on the on the radio

They said we can't start the race

We don't have cars because the guys are getting parts and one of the guys couldn't qualify because you have a mass airflow fan sensor

Yeah, like

Crown vicks on the new street stocks too. It was it was really really cool. It was souped up cars

Yeah, it was it was awesome to see that there was one of the four bangers

There was a Cavalier the kid drove it out the track into the parking lot where I was parked and loaded on to a U-Haul Dolly

And drove it up that's whatever it takes right people ask me a lot

What is a racer?

And what's the key attribute? What makes a racer and a racer will?

Always finds a way

So that that's what's cool about going to places like caraway and that's why I continue to do stuff like that because

You got you learn and you see the passion and it just makes me more hungry to go

You know on saturdays and sundays to go race and and represent that. It's it's really cool

How do we get more people involved to someone like myself?

How do you get more involved in the sport right because you had how many people I don't want to ruin your

Spoils you a victory here, but you had six in your class

Yeah, there wasn't a lot of cars there

but like we went to somerna one and there was 30 cars there and

Yesterday was a home opener. I figured there'd be 20 caraway usually has about 20 modifies

We got there there was like six cars, but we were there

So we raced anyway and and we did well don't get me wrong like I felt

It was like an awkward victory lane because there wasn't a ton of cars

but we still wins a win and

I just like going racing with my friends like it was that's what it's about about doing it and more so walk around the pits

Learning from other people and just being part of it supporting short track racing. That's what I just love that. What am I going to do?

Said at home all day. I got this race car. It's done. Let's go race, but

I don't know. I was pleasantly surprised with how many crown like the way that you get more people involved

They don't know can't build a modifier don't try that is the crown vicks and the force owners

There was full feel to them shout out to cletus McFarland for the freedom 500. Yeah, I mean that's that's phenomenal

Not just viewing pleasure, but just anyone can race. Yeah, and crown vicks are going to be more

That's listen street stocks forever have been camaros and Monte Carlo's

It's very hard to find an 87 Monte Carlo anymore or mid 80s anything

There's a plethora of crown vicks crown vicks are the new

Street stock. Can we start buying futures on from crown vicks? Well, I

I don't know just start stacking them up back. I know that word. Yeah, but they're gonna race those this year bowman gray

They're gonna have six races at bowman gray for crown vicks. So between cletus

And his poll there's been a lot of talk about cletus McFarland

Should he be approved? Should he not for NASCAR?

That's way above my pay grade

I like to see him involved. I'd like to do it. I'd like to see them do it the smart way and not just chase the short dollar

I want to see him

Develop if he wants to be a race car driver to put in make sure he's putting in the work

Um, whether it be cars tour late models

Even if you want to come run the modify like stuff like that

Make sure you're putting the work late models out of this track that he owns. They're the freedom factory

It's hard to just make that big step into

IMSA does it well, right? They've got their different styles of driving different

You know levels that you can be whether you're a hot shoe or factory driver

You're a silver you're any of those even a gentleman driver

So you're still being supported from the different series whether you're in gt4 gt3

They're going up the rung. I mean it's so unapproachable with so many people. It's just easy to go

Let's go run the 500 so include his position. I agree. I would love to see him

Build out something like that even if it's invitational. I think NASCAR is more America than IMSA. I think like I like that you can

I I still think there's a little bit of

Like hey, man, if you can get it you can come race

But but I do think there's a fine line like I don't love the licensing the super license f1 thing

It's sticky. It's messy to me

Uh, but I also like I didn't I've won a good amount of short track races

I didn't get approved to race Richmond in a modified race a year and a half ago. Why they just didn't approve

They said I didn't have enough seed time

I've done a lot of short track racing

won a good amount of stuff

Cleetus McFarland I I could argue I've won more short track races than Cleetus McFarland for sure and put in more time

They didn't approve me

for a modified race

But they approved him to go run Daytona in a truck or you know rocking him in a bush car different different deals

I understand that money is a big

part of it and I

I like that Cleetus is here. I like the eyes he brings and I feel like NASCAR has needed the bridge to grab between car culture

and

NASCAR fans for a long time

The next gen car helps out a little bit. It's a little bit more digestible people understand it more

Guys more guys like Cleetus and Travis was trying to help that

I just want to make sure we're doing it the right way and not just going for the short money if that makes sense

There's a place for everybody

Let's just make sure he has good people around him

We're not just getting him there for the clicks or we're using we have the clicks like we want that

But we also want to develop him to be a competitor and not to be laughed at

We don't want him to be a laughing stock when he's the right guy too. It's the right guy got famous in that case

He's a great human being even owns his mistakes

What I would love to see is NASCAR or someone in the paddock do something with a grid life or something like that

That they take cars around like when the NASCAR went to them all

That was cool. Yeah, that was really cool. Yeah, I see that car every day. Yeah, I mean, I think okay

I mean, I think there'd be something that's you know going to grid life going and showing the fans

Whether it's a local drift event even a cars and coffee do a tour go around follow the grid life series

Yeah, what does that look like? I want to go. There's a grid life in Kershaw. We talked about yeah

One thing I wanted to touch on here on the show. We're not

Huge on just clickbaity hot topic issues

We want to keep take a deeper dive and give an objective opinion

So with this we haven't really touched on it because it hasn't fallen under the show, but also

There hasn't been it's kind of been all speculative and it's in the courts now, but chris gabhart

Leaves jgr. It sounds like they had a closed door meeting him and coach Gibbs

What I'm hearing is he didn't like a lot of what was being done on ty Gibbs team

He felt like ty was getting favoritism

they weren't

chris gabhart felt like as a competition director

He was

Supposed to be

Having control of all the cars. They gave him control of three cars and not control of ty Gibbs's car

And he really kind of slammed ty

I don't think there's anybody that's bigger fans of ty Gibbs than corey myself. We've been critical of them, but

I know ty Gibbs can do it

It's really easy

To just say

Hey silver spoon rich kid nepo baby. It's easy to say that

But what's hard to do is look at him as a human and as a race car driver

Without thinking of who his grandfather is and then you gotta think about

About uh, joe gibbs too, right and the stuff he's been through. So there's a couple different layers chris gabhart

He has all the notes everything. He knows everything about every piece

of how Gibbs operates from salaries to recruiting athletes to

um on the pit crew side to

Car setups measurements on the race cars air pressures everything

Data that the drivers get how the meetings run

There is no guy that has his finger on the pulse on how joe gibbs racing runs more

Than what chris gabhart did so he departs and he goes to spire

Spires are making a huge investment. They've been getting more and more great crew chiefs over there

Drivers you can tell that they are they're here to stay

Like they'll come help on the computer and they're so smart. They are going to figure out what you took off your computer

and put on your

Personal computer or put on laptop and it just came out this week that they had a private investigator following them and saw them go

And that's all going to take care of itself in court. It's the second time that there's been a big

lawsuit type antitrust thing with

Or not antitrust, but like a stealing information thing with gibbs

um jazzy one of their engineers

Was going rcr and they said that he gave information to rcr when they won richman a couple years ago

So it sucks that they're back in the news for this

But this two-fold on chris gave parts part and got gibbs's part

We have single source suppliers for these cars now

So everybody has the same parts and pieces essentially

So your ip or intellectual property and how to build a car is that

That's what you own now. That's that's all you have. You can't just go build a better mousetrap

You could take the parts and pieces and make them a little bit better and we're talking

30 thousands here or there on wheel placement or body placement makes a huge difference

so

We're in this age of motorsport where

You're not stealing shock builds, you know, it's a little bit of everything now

So it's super important you keep that stuff in house because once it gets out once the toothpaste out of the bottle

You're not getting it back

So they're trying to do some damage control there, but then let's talk about joe gibbs, right?

He's catching a lot of flak for having his grandson in the car

Ty Gibbs is a great race car driver. He did a he won an xfinity championship

A real riley series now championship. We want a ton of races coming up. He runs

Well in the cup car a lot of the times

He finished fourth this past weekend. He was in the hunt

but

He's had he hasn't won yet all his teammates wins everybody's talking about how he hasn't won

It's really hard to win the cups here. Especially to get your first one. He's got great people around him

But you got to think about let's separate and let's let's talk about ty Gibbs for a minute

He's a 23 year old kid that's grown up in the spotlight. He lost his father in a tragic way just a couple years ago

When they won the xfinity series championship in phoenix

Celebrates with his dad as dad goes back to the hotel doesn't wake up in the morning

Pass away and asleep the night that he won the xfinity that is

They think about that for anybody

And how hard it's got to be to go back to the racetrack

To start your cup career without your father who was a prominent figure that ran the team think about joe gibbs

He lost both of his sons and it's not it's no longer about your win. It's about your dad

Well, we forget that these guys are people

We we forget that

We just want to scrutinize them as a race car driver

But it was a lot of the same stuff last year like tyler reddick was having a tough year people were pounding on

They didn't realize what he had going on at home with his young song rookie in the hospital

They couldn't figure out what's going on. That's you got to think about

But yes, they're race car drivers and I get they get paid a lot of money and they're here to entertain us

But there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes and ty Gibbs is growing up in front of the camera

in a huge

spotlight

With a lot of pressure without a father

Right his grandfather is running the team

His mom's helping run the team then you got to think about joe gibbs

Think about the drivers that he's let go, right? They developed joey legano

From a young age, they had joey legano there in the same situation took ty Gibbs is in he didn't win right away

he got he got a win on rain delay one another race at pokono, but

it

He didn't have the success that his teammates were having that denny hamlin was having that everybody that was

Around him. They were having tons of success joey wasn't they let him go

He goes to penske. He's a three-time champion now one of the best to ever do it

Or you think about eric jones like

Eric jones they developed eric jones

He did he won a couple races a couple darlingsons, but he never

Was doing what denny hamlin did is a culture they let him go. No, I just

I don't know if it's culture. It's just

Ty joe where I'm going with this is joe is not just gonna he's probably learned from his mistakes of letting young guys go

And this is a different layer because it's this grand kid. They're not gonna let him go and drive somewhere else

But he's probably given up on young guys too quickly. So they're learning the lessons

in his car

And then he says you can't do it go somewhere else

So he takes out they took all the lessons they learned from Gibbs go to another team transplant it and they're successful

so he's probably

That's got to be in the back of his mind too. So it's a very unique situation

Um, I hate to see it getting piled on ty, but I think ty said it best this weekend

I'll just let my performance on track do the talking

So hopefully that's what

What he does he did it this weekend he put himself in position to win ran forth and they're having a decent

Start to the season. We'll see if he can get his first win this year

We've got uh vegas come up next, right? We got vegas next. Um, it's the first real test of a mile and a half

You're going going to vegas change the tires kyle arson for the 88 just to know Riley series

I'll be there saturday fly out saturday fly back saturday. Uh, and then

I'm really excited to see last year. We saw a ton of pit road problems, which brings us to our pit bosses a week this week

Let's not cut that the 19 team

19 was by far the fastest. They've been so good here lately

um, let's talk about them real quick, man, they

They had a little bit of a shake up on this team this year

They had a veteran tire changer

Daniel smith on the rear of that car

and they had uh

lee bob

Who's was their front? He was a rear changer forever. Then he moved to be their front changer

They moved him back to the rear aj rosini who was out with health issues from the 11 last year came back

He's on the front of the 19 and they've just been kaleb dirks the jack man

They've been hitting on all cylinders this year

Uh, so it's really cool to see that these changers are able to go from the rear to the front back and forth

And the coaching it gives is is phenomenal. Brian holland

I was a really good friend of mine has been the head coach there for a long time

So shout out to the 19 boys pit boss the week best average fast

fastest stop goes to the 23 23 team did a eight

Okay, eight six or an eight seven. I don't know what it was, but uh

They were they were the fastest team. I expect to see

If say an eight six was the fastest stop this weekend

I think in vegas we could see maybe an eight one with tires four tire stop four tire stop

I think we could see maybe yeah an eight one and it was cool to see this weekend on the gibbs front

Uh jackson gibbs on the last two tire stop. He barely got back across the nose

uh

and

They interviewed him. We saw they saw just

Here on a two tire stop

So the jackman you you tighten the right front and the jackman drops it right away

Right when you're getting up and these cars are launching out of the pit box so fast

Everybody kind of knows how much it takes three tenths of a second to get passed by car on pit road

So they you know they the 54 team was in our pit box right when the Xfinity race ended

On saturday night scraping the rubber and prepping the pit box surface so they could launch better

And then you see the 54 launch out of the box and almost hit their tire changer

So that stuff started saturday night. We right when the race was over

They started putting chemicals on the pit box to take the the rubber up to get a clean surface because they've been doing they have these

And you'll see it in an hra

They have these pieces that go on the ground that measure the grip of pit road

and they uh

They have been tracking this data at each track and then figuring out chemicals to put down on the surface to get the

The cars to launch better

That makes it a little bit tougher on the front tire changer because now when the car drops

There's no wheel spin it launches and we saw Jackson Gibbs jump over the front of that

I just saw Blaine Anderson on the 77. He didn't quite get a get a cross. There's a video on bozi's twitter

Where he ended up on the hood

easy to do

Uh, we talked about it last week. I I would always if the car was launching

I put my hand on like where the headlight is and just push myself off the front of it

Or even where the emblem is you can kind of get up and the car will kind of shove you out of the way

Uh, I did have my finger go in the hood pin one time, which was super sketchy

Um, but lived the fight another day kept my thumb, which was good

But yeah, that a lot of cool stuff and then I interviewed Jackson that Jackson Gibbs

The other grandson of ty Gibbs jd's son changes front tires for ty

So there's two grandsons on one car. He was out there cleaning the pit box

So so really cool to see but uh, yeah, those are 19 teams are pit bosses. Um, shout out

bummer friend of the show last week austin prok

Goes to nha this weekend

Impamona with a new team didn't qualify for the race. Uh, he had some choice where for

uh, nha about oil on the track and

Saw a lot of comments, but uh bummer to see that

but

Hoping nothing for the best for austin prok and everybody in nha. It was really big weekend for motorsports

That kind of covers everything that we got here, but I think we have a couple questions

Let's hear your promises from next week. Who you got for vegas? Who do I have for vegas, man?

It's hard to go against kyle arson of vegas. I'm not just saying that because I

I'm changing tires for him on saturday. I'm just talking about sunday alone

They that is like a

Put your nuts on the dashboard go as hard as you can

It's really easy to get in the trouble

It's one of the fastest racetracks we go to

And that falls right in the kyle arson's like spring car mentality

If I had to put my money on somebody it's going to be larcen. What about you? Who do you think you're going hosibar?

He's in a wreck someone. He's not going to be in the wreck and he's going to be out there. Well, I think I think the

The thing that hosibar said a couple weeks ago if you cause the wreck you're usually not in it

That kind of pertains that kind of pertains to

Super speed waves a lot of the times. I think vegas is one of those places where

You can wreck and you can wreck hard and if you're getting into somebody you're going so fast that if you cause the wreck

You're probably going to be in it

um

But hosibar has got a ton of speed too so and and those spire cars have been better and better running the top 10 the whole race so

You're picking hosibar to get his first win at vegas a lot of guys have gotten their first wins there so

We'll see if that holds up. You got a lot of questions though. I saw you put a lot of questions

We put him up last night just in case something happened. You know, we had a bit of a sneaking suspicion so

We'll go with something a little from c kill gore 19. Who wins in a fight a grilled cheese or a taco taco

Why uh, you know, I think about taco is built in mexico a lot of great mexican fighters

The mexican boxers have always been super scrappy a grilled cheese is just the grilled cheese. There's no protein in it

There's no real protein. You know taco. You can take your choice of protein taco is going to win every time

Why did drivers reference each other by number instead of name and interviews the x car?

I think that's something they do when they're mad

Makes it a little bit less personal

Uh, so instead of saying hey, i'm i'm pissed off at aj. I'm gonna go to 16

Just just ran me in the fence. It makes it uh, I think when it makes it a little bit less like a personal shot when you

Name somebody by name. It seems a I think people are a little bit more mad. So I think that's that's kind of a nice way to

Uh, not throw somebody on their bus and it's kind of like a subtle

condescending dig

We said it here though. We say the 12 car the 22 car. That's that's numbers are important, man. That's how you're known

Professional that's it. Um, this is a great question from brett bows. Who do you think we'll get a cup series win first?

It gives a host of r. Oh, that's a tough one great question. Um, man

They're that's a toss up. I i'm going ty gibbs. Like I said, I'm a huge ty gibbs fan

but I'm also a huge karson host of our fan but

Ty gibbs has just consistently been been finishing the races. I think host of r has been running up front more

Um, but ty I feel like ty can win any weekend

I feel like there's a couple select tracks that host far is really good at and I still think he has some weak points in his game

where ty

has

Obviously spires made leaps and bounds in their program, but they're not proving like gibbs is yet, right? They're not championship team

So that's one thing ty's got going for him

And then he seems to be able to to finish like when they're having a good day to finish off that good day

Uh, host of r still has some hiccups in that but man, he's fun to watch. I mean, I want to see a gibbs american story

Go what it's an american story, right from the whole entire family legacy when the you know overcoming this

You know, I see both of them win. Absolutely. But yeah, if I had to pick somebody to win first, that's what

Holy moly underscore e how many times can skip decides to describe something as electric getting that a lot?

Uh, I've been getting that a lot

I don't know man. I mean I get fired up. That's the word I use electric. Sorry. I'll try to switch it up

But yeah, I got I got uh

My guys at the powder coat shop roasted me on that this week too. Those guys are funny. Yeah, they are

That's a good group. Those guys also drove from all over the place this weekend. Well, they were all together

We all kind of drove up from concord. So we got some guys doing dirt stuff

Yeah, that yeah my buddy dylan roger shout out to dylan

We he had a long weekend like I did he was racing down at golden aisles with third late models

And he drove up to crew chief the modified yesterday. So

Racers man, they'll do whatever it takes. What else we got? Here's a segue from

Bailey hobaroo with an x you at the end of it. Um, what's your cookout order? Oh man, so

I don't need cookout a lot. It's usually after darlington on the way home. There's a couple

I don't try not to eat fast food a ton, but there's a couple races where that's all you can eat on the way home

martinsville, it's taco bell

Cookout is usually on the way home from darlington

I go um to I used to be blts

Or my jam

But now I go to of their snack wraps chicken, honey mustard kind of chicken snack wrap

Uh, I like the hush puppies and

An unsweet tea sweet tea fills me up way too much too much sugar

But I will get a mint chocolate chip shake is always really good

I remember seeing this place go cook out this magical land first time in the south

And the first time I went was the one off sugarcreek

To him in the morning talk about being overwhelmed that menu hits you in the face of all sorts of colors

Yeah, everything's a dollar

Yes, so I got a so we're celebrating

One of our clients going to a big national chain and so we're having a good time

So we're going out to his cabin 40 minutes away. I was bringing food

I think we got 12 different types of burgers bunch of shakes bunch of everything and the next morning

We felt like we were hung over. Yeah, but it was good. It was worth it. Um, are we gonna race legends cars?

I don't know we can go we can go race legend cars. I'm down to race whatever whenever the cookout invitation

Or what do they call those they call the cookout summer shootout. Um, that's a really I've raced that when I was younger. It's a really awesome

Uh

Cookouts just made a huge investment

But the shoot summer shootouts a great way to get into racing and bandoleros and legend cars

It's a lot of fun and we see guys out there like svg bubble wallace

It's got a mclochland racing last year. So it's it's really cool

It's a really fun way to get some racing in on midweek shows

I think it's live on flow now. You can watch it and you know, that's that's a way to break into racing

We talk about how do we get more people involved with cookout summer shootouts a great way

That's 20 minutes from my office

So I would go in the afternoon sit there with my laptop and work at the stands and watch the race

That's great. Yeah, and the cookout also makes a big investment in the NASCAR youth racing

It's kind of wherever max Reeves his family owns cookout

So wherever he's been racing they make a big investment in that and and it's really cool to see

Let's wrap it up. You're from Nicholas Olson. What's your favorite memory from your dad race?

Do you show me when you're in your trophy room the other day and you've got numerous trophy rooms

You've got the garage. You've got the closets. You've got all sorts of memorabilia and there was a lot of your dad

The wins are great, but sitting in the race car with your dad when he loads it on the trailer and that type of stuff just feels so cool

Uh, those are my favorite memories and that's kind of what's molding me as a man on a racer today

That's why I continue to do this stuff

So so those little things driving to and from the racetrack helping load the race car up

Just being there and being around that's why I do it now with my kids and we have a lot of fun doing it

So people always ask why the hell am I doing this stuff?

And it's chasing those memories from when you're a kid and pass them on to my kids

They were so excited this morning when they woke up and they saw a trophy

I remember this my dad won opening night at wall state and I wasn't able to go because it was east

It was the night before Easter and I came home next to my Easter basket was his trophy

Uh from wall and and that was just one of the coolest memories and I was able to do that this morning

Kids woke up went downstairs saw the trophies sitting there

So you're always no matter what your dad did or what you're always inherently just trying to make your dad proud or

um

You know share these memories and pass them down. So that's a little bit what I can do with my kids
