Detailing Q&A: Removing Water Spots from Black Honda Paint

Hello, hello, hello, and welcome back to the studio here for Q&A Thursday, where we were on

a couple weeks hiatus, but we're happy to see you again, and hopefully you feel the same

about us, Anthony. Welcome to the program. I'm Dane Hennan, your host, fellow co-host, Anthony

Fisher. Dane, thanks for having me. You know, happy Thursday, happy Friday, Eve. It is one

of those moments that we've been looking forward to for the last few weeks here. People answer

your detailing questions, right? That's what it's for. And ideally go off on tangents

that literally don't make any sense or have to do a detailing, and we do that for

most of the show. It's pretty fun, you know? We want to make sure that folks

who come here regularly feel welcome, but we do want to make it feel like a place that

new people can show up and ask their questions to, so I don't want to derail it too hard.

Sometimes I might have to curb it a little bit. It's true, and we brought up a good

topic today for our title, and it comes to detailing black cars, right? Yeah, black

paint and Honda black is famous for being a little bit tricky, and you know a thing

or two about Hondas. In fact, you have a black Honda. That's true. So what we

had to do, though, is actually bring in a specialist here who specializes in black

paint, and that just happens to be Mr. Carson Black. It's right in the name. Thank

you for having me yet again. I feel like I'm just the resident car washer at this

point. Well, you're working up to it. You're a professional car, so you're a professional,

and we're already certified, you know? So thanks for joining us today. Carson,

what are we doing today? Yeah, so using my two favorite brands currently, I'm

using a little bit of ADS products and a little bit of G-Technic products. So yeah,

we're going to have some fun times. This car does have quite a bit of water spots,

so we're going to highlight some two products from G-Technic that really

haven't been used quite a bit in a little bit. So we've got ceramic G-Wash

and then the W9, which of course is there like a sledge hammer, their

water spot remover. If the water spots don't come off with W9, then

you're going to have to polish it. So we're going to use that today and then ceramic

G-Wash. So nice. Nice, Carson. Awesome. Looking forward to it. We're excited about

this. Absolutely. Anyway, I think we have some general housekeeping to catch up

on. It's been a couple weeks. Right? A couple weeks. So let's catch up. So we

are currently in mid-October right now, which means that we're just a few

weeks away from SEMA 2025. Yeah, that's right around the corner. Which

we're extremely excited about. So will we be at SEMA? Yes, we will. We will be in

booth 51455. 155. That's what I said. 51455. Okay. And we will be there with

actually a pretty good-sized team. So myself as well as Dane Hennan here

will actually be joining us. I'll be there this time. It's been a year

since I was there. Carson Black will actually be joining us as well.

First time at SEMA ever. I know he's looking forward to it. We also will have

Lucas from Customer Service, which is going to be sweet. We will also have the

Josh's. Josh Brodell and Josh Petro. We will also have John Green. And then I

believe there will also be some special guests. Your parents, right? Will actually

be there for a little while as well. So I think that's everyone. That's a good

run-up. I think that's pretty much everybody who's going to be doing

talking, walking around the booth, that kind of thing. So if you are in the area,

if you attend SEMA, please don't be a stranger. Come by. Say hi. Yeah, so it'll be

a good time. So two weeks left until that happens. We'll be leaving here on

Sunday night. We're going to be staying probably, I think, at Resorts World

is where we're staying at this year. I think that's the move. And that's

kind of been our go-to spot. It's super cool. It's a great place. Oh, yeah.

And good vibes all around, which is awesome. And it's just kind of easy to

get to and from the convention center because we just take the Tesla tunnels

and we're able to just basically get dropped off right there at the front

door. So easy. Really, really cool. Looking forward to that week. A lot of

standing, a lot of walking, and a lot of talking. So also want to give a

special shout out to our friends over at TRC Europe, right? Come to Europe.

Because Patrick will be coming along with Patrick's son. And what was his

name? We had an intern name for him and from the Netherlands, Stajer. It was.

So yeah, so he is, right now I'm trying to think of freaking Stajer's real name.

I'm just going to let you struggle on that one.

Quintin, oh my gosh. I was like, I was about to say like, I don't know what I was.

Oh, I don't know what I was going to say. Quintin, so Quintin will be

there. And what's awesome is that Patrick is going to be bringing us

the Jello Revoice tablets. Oh, thank goodness.

So five bottles of Jello Revoice. Those are so expensive. I don't know if it's just

the cost to like transport in the U.S. or something, but anywhere I've ever seen

them listed here in the U.S., they are priced like gold.

So Jello Revoice, I don't know what it is, honestly. They're different.

It's like a German, like kind of like a cough drop, but for your throat.

It's for like singing and talking a bunch of different stuff.

It basically like foams up in your mouth and then you just kind of like suck on it.

And then it like completely, like not just like numbs your throat, but also just makes it just feel

good. I believe they are medicated with something. It goes well beyond just your average Ricola

or anything like that. This is like way next level. It was like $30 a tube in the U.S.

Fisherman's Friend is a classic that we used to use to try and keep our voices going,

but the reality of this goes well beyond anything Fisherman's Friend is capable of.

Can go in the trash because Jello Revoice has taken over, but unfortunately there's not

really a U.S. Distributor of it. So basically we have to order it or try to get it from overseas.

And so Patrick's going to be bringing us some. So that's going to be awesome.

We'll be able to be talking and not lose our voice throughout the week, which is great.

Now on top of that, so we'll have Cima coming up here really soon, but before that,

this is a special time of year. We love Halloween here at the Rad Company.

I think we do a pretty good job of celebrating it. And we do a good job of representing it.

what projects are you working on? What like stuff do we not know about

that we should be asking about? Well, part of the fun is not telling you until we actually

have something to show for it. And as of right now, how it's sitting right now,

we will have something to show for it. So SEMA should be a pretty killer ear for us

in terms of something new. And yeah, I'm looking forward to... Yeah,

looking forward to showing you guys. So there will probably be some media content on it.

There will probably be some other stuff that will be happening. There's actually

a couple of different big things happening at SEMA for us that we're looking forward to.

But yeah, basically just stay tuned. I think you guys are going to be extremely excited about

It's freaking awesome. Probably the best $80 you will spend on a detailing related product.

It's high quality. I know some people look and be like,

are you just going to sit and say, no, it is built in a way that reflects the quality.

So I, honestly, man, I'm just, I'm not going to detail. I'm not going to wash my

truck anymore without it. I actually won't wash my truck without it because it saves me

so much time knocking out the roof, the hood, the windshield and all that stuff.

It's a total game changer. It's great for your back. It's great for just general ergonomics.

And once you make a process using the Mitt on a Stick,

along with maybe some of your favorite cycling wash pads or wash mitts,

it just becomes like, it becomes second nature, right? You just don't even think about it.

You just begin using it. And so for people that have asked though,

are there going to be replacement mitt heads, wash mitts? And the answer is yes.

We are currently working on those right now. And we will be hopefully, we'll be stocking those

within the upcoming months, the next two months or so. The mitt that's on there is extremely durable

and will last you, I would probably estimate 100 plus washes. There's no reason why that mitt

would ever fall apart or anything like that. It's very, very durable. So what I would say

is use it, take care of it. In the meantime, if you do have to do a reorder and you want

to get some more of them, you can actually just order them from Auto Fiber from our friends over

at Mitt on a Stick. They do have just replacement heads. They just may not be in the black and

white. They'll probably be in like a blue and white as well as a blue and white or red and white

is what they're in right now. But we will have the black and white version coming from Korea,

obviously. And it goes back to the homepage. I believe it plays like a video clip of it

in action. So you can take a quick peek at that, just where it's running. There you go.

It's freaking awesome. And maybe it maybe, I don't know if Carson's gonna, I don't think he's

going to have to pull one out for today's wash. This car's a lot smaller. 80 bucks. It's

worth every penny. I would buy it again and again. If the one that we had here broke tomorrow,

the one I had at home broke, I would buy another one because just that's how useful

coffee rather than being a coffee flavored protein shake. It's actually a little different,

but they still put the protein in. Anyway, we're not here to sell protein shakes.

So, hey, TRC, how was your time in Helen? That's Georgia. Did you ride the mountain

coaster? Helen is a really weird place, but also fun. Helen, it reminded me a lot of

a place called Leavenworth. If you've been to Washington and you're familiar at all

with the Snoqualmie Pass area, you probably have heard of Leavenworth, Bavarian town nestled in

the mountains. It feels like legit in a fun kind of way. It's a little hokey, but it is fun. Bavarian,

or as you call it, Bavarian. But yeah, no, just fun, silly little Germantownie kind of thing. But

Helen, I did not know this about Helen. When we rolled into Helen, I thought it was just

going to be a little mountain town. I didn't know anything about it. So when we rolled up,

and I'm looking around going, wait a second, this feels like Leavenworth. And then I saw how

big it was. It was like Leavenworth on steroids. It was like, Leavenworth is like one day of the

week. This was the whole week. It was just stretched out as far as the eye could see.

And you were loving it. I was freaking obsessed, honestly. You can call it goofy. You can call

it weird, whatever it is. Matt, Matt's not a fan. Like Matt's very like, you know, like,

he's like, oh, it's like, I hate themed places. And I go, well, unlike you, Matt, I love

themed places. They're like my favorite thing. And so Helen is amazing. Like, I don't know why he

didn't talk that up in more videos. Like, if you were to say, hey, you get to come hang out at this

cool house, but also the town is like really like, like unique and fun. And we just happened to go

during Oktoberfest, right? Yeah, we happen to be there like the best time, the best time. The

leaves are changing. It's everybody's wearing leader hose in. And I was like, Oh my gosh,

this is freaking awesome. Beer gardens everywhere. We did not ride the mountain coaster. No, we did

see it though, because the place we went last day for a little food and stuff before we headed out

the evening, we did eat right next to it. So we could see it in action. So we we went all around

the town that we actually had a full town day in Helen where we did some shopping, went to the

toy store, got some toys for my daughter. We went to we got funnel cakes we did. Oh my

gosh, we went to all we wanted to a couple different like weird shops and all sorts of stuff.

And you're right when you call it weird though, there is like a strange energy to the place. Yeah,

I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's like there's like a sinister underbelly to it.

There's something, something just a little off there. So we went to this earth called Earth

Mother Coffee. And what I did very nice. Yeah, what I didn't know is that it was

essentially I mean, where you were going to get a spell casted on you. It was right

next door to an apothecary. Yes, it was right next door to this. But like the people there were

quite nice. The baristas were very nice. But it was just really interesting because we walk in

and there was definitely a mood in this place. I don't want to describe it. There was a vibe.

And and then they told us about like some of the history of the town or like just the general

like by and they weren't exactly like super. No, like like it's it's weird like they lived

in this beautiful town, but they also like actually kind of hated it. And then get out.

And then get out while you can or like don't get arrested here. Like why would I get arrested here?

Like people get in trouble here and they just come here and they do bad things and then they don't

leave. They don't leave. And I was like, what? What does that mean? Like what are you guys

talking about? And she goes, well, anyways, our coffee machine is broken. And I go,

oh, so she's like, well, so I can't make you an espresso or anything. And I go,

this is a coffee shop. What do you guys do? And she says, well, I can give you a cold coffee like

a like just a normal drip coffee. And I said, sure. And then she offers Dana. I don't know.

Dane's like, I'll get to take a chai. And they're like, oh, yeah, for sure. And then she goes,

it's broken. And then I'm like, well, the milk warmer was broken. Everything was freaking

broken. And so at that a certain point still they were nice. I'm walking around. I go to

the what's it called the pocket pocket carry, right? And I start walking around. I go, oh, man,

like this is pretty weird. If you don't know what an apothecary is, look it up. A lot of things were

in jars and stuff like that. I'm like, a lot of witchy kind of stuff. And which was fun for

all you tarot card, you know, like Halloween. It's kind of a, you know, it's a, it's a,

it's a mood to buy crystals and astrology. There was, you know, they have the incense

burning and then that's when she goes, Hey, do you want to try like a coffee

alternative? And I go coffee alternative. That sounds weird. And she goes, yeah,

like it's good energy, but it's also like no crash and blah, blah, blah. I go, I honestly,

sure, I'll try it. Not really thinking too much into it. She hands me the cup. I say,

I'm not drinking less. Dane drinks one. Dane gets a cup. I didn't waste a second.

It was scorching hot. We take like a little sip and I go, this is interesting. And she

goes, yeah, it's this stuff right over here and walks over to like this bag of

mushrooms. And she goes, it's this mushroom coffee. I go, Oh my God.

And I'm already tripping. I'm already like, I'm going to get cursed at this place.

Not those kinds of mushrooms. It was just. Dane, you just never know. And so

it was smooth. It was fine. That point. I'm like, just give me, give me, I want a

normal coffee and I want to leave. And even my normal coffee didn't taste like

normal coffee. And it freaked me out. So I dumped it out.

Yeah. So anyway, moving along, Helen was an interesting place.

It had some strange vibes, but I would say that's part of the chart. It's a little

bit strange, but quite fun. And if you don't mind a little bit of like,

something's off kind of vibe, but it goes pretty well. Like, go enjoy it. Try it out.

Dude, going with family, I think it'd be a riot. I think they have like, they have

the tubing. They have all sorts of fun stuff that I totally would do with my family.

And on top of that, again, there's like a quaintness to it that I really like.

The food we went to, what's it called? Something, something's not solely.

What do you, what do you, what would Matt call it? Mollies.

Mollies. Yeah. Oh, Mollies was wonderful.

So we went to a little restaurant called Mollies that he was all about. So we hyped

that up. So we had dinner there. And then what else did we end up doing? We went to

the, like, it's like, they have like a grocery store there. And Betty's or

something like that. So we went and did that. And it was like a country store,

but a really big country grocery market, like really fun.

If, basically, I just didn't know. And we also went to a sushi place as well.

And it was also fine. So it was a really cool experience.

I would totally go there again. I didn't really know what to expect,

but like I was so pumped when I started seeing all the Bavarian theme places.

And they're building a home to sweets that is going to be Bavarian themed.

And I'm like, this is the best. So I'll, I will be back.

We'll talk about the house here in a little bit as well.

I mean, the actual Helen house for OG, but we don't want to front load this

can you wash your car with Koshami CES on a weekly basis?

So wondering if ceramic effect shampoo is okay to use on a weekly basis?

Well, would that be overkill? I might just, you know, if you're using that line already,

use GSF in between uses of CES. Yeah.

You don't need to, to use it every time.

Yeah. I mean, like, basically I'm like, if it's me, I'm probably doing CES, you know,

once a month, if you want to keep up with hydrophobic behavior.

I mean, that's all you really need. Otherwise, you're just kind of wasting it.

GSF for probably your general cleans, CES for a light cleaning slash retouch up.

You can also do a GSF wash first and then do a CES wash.

And you can do it like that and do them back to back.

If you want to just make sure that you're kind of getting that protection to stick

the best CPM. FYI, if you hear noises in the background that don't sound like our wash bay,

it's because the parking lot is still very much under construction,

which is why we didn't do a show last week.

So it's all happening right next to the building.

Now it's a little further apart, so we can kind of do this.

But just in case, it's, it's nothing dangerous that I'm aware of.

And so they know what that is.

But if you ask them to explain a Rinsless Wash,

they probably wouldn't even know.

It's just they know that the product can do that.

But yeah.

I think that people can be aware of something without being aware

that they're aware of that thing.

Which shampoo and ceramic sealant do you recommend?

I feel some of the ceramic sealants get my car dusty.

I have you on pure ceramic coat.

Honestly, man.

I think right now you have so many different options

that it's kind of insane.

But I will say just a good solid solution would probably be something

like a GSF from Coach Kemi.

And I'd probably use, let's see, maybe,

probably the armored detail splice quick detailer.

That's a good call.

Amplify.

Yeah.

If you use the G-Tag, you use G-Wash.

GSF and amplify every wash.

You're golden.

You're like you're set.

You don't have to do anything else.

I was going to say, Carson,

while you're kind of going between steps there,

were you noticing anything while you were applying?

Was there any weirdness or just something to note?

No.

I mean, I learned a thing from, oh gosh,

DJ from Armor Detail Supply with decon soap specifically,

where some guys like to pre-rinse,

or some people like to pre-rinse, I should say,

before they apply decon soap.

But since you're going to rinse it already

before you go in your contact wash,

I didn't because I think it's just wasting a step

and wasting time.

And so that's what I'm doing today.

I'm just letting the product actually work

rather than rinsing, foaming, rinsing again.

And then today, I'm not going to be foaming ceramic g-wash.

I'm going to be using it strictly as a bucket soap.

And so I'm not going to be foaming again.

So I'm done with my foam cannon.

Cool.

So let's see.

So getting started washing car that's ceramic coated.

I would say really just, you just shampoo only for right now.

I mean, unless you feel like you need a pre-wash, you don't.

How do I say this?

I mean, I would love to sell you every single product

that we have.

But I mean, like if you were just getting started

and you're just learning this whole process, I think

that start with a normal soap, figure out how dirty

your car is actually getting to justify whether or not

you need a pre-wash and then go from there.

So, you know, get a good soap like G-S-F for, you know,

G-wash or shampoo plus or whatever, start using it.

And then if you're finding like, oh dang,

like this shampoo is great, but I do need something a

little bit more cleaning power to do it the first step,

then that's not looking to a pre-wash.

And pre-wash is a lot of, there's a lot of good ones.

There's citrus wash, there's de-con soap,

there's touchless from optimum, a lot of different options.

But yeah, I would say if you're just starting out,

go simple before going all in and see what you need.

And we can take our time on these answers

because we're on page one already.

So, we're just trying to help people out.

Carpher Reset is a nice soap that has a bit more bite

without being super strong, wouldn't need it

for a week of wash, but it can be effective

for a winter washing, nice.

I haven't taken paint up gauge to be honest.

I mean, I think the quality of the paint looks decent.

I mean, I've seen.

You've seen a lot of new settings.

I went and saw those and friend Steve, you know,

I helped him out with some parts on that

and I did some rock chip repair

and all sorts of different stuff on it.

And honestly, it was fine.

Like, I would probably say feel more confident in that paint

than I do probably the modern Mazda paint.

Now that I know how thin that modern Mazda paint.

Modern Mazda paint is beautiful,

but speaking from experience,

that's why I got it wrapped real fast or had PPF put on.

That paint chips like the devil.

It is the thinnest paint I've ever seen.

I've never seen thinner paint than that.

Yeah, it's like I was seeing chips

and seeing bare metal and going, there's no way.

Like there's no way that's the depth of that paint.

Yeah, it's wild how fast it goes,

but whether it's like environmental regulations

that are causing them to want to go lighter

with their output or some other reason.

I mean, at the end of the day,

it could be cost cutting any number of things,

but it's thin.

It's really, really thin.

I mean, that one's super easy to lubricate stuff with.

Yeah, if you're doing a wash clay seal,

then do bead maker as your clay loop

and then top it with defender in six months.

Not gonna hurt.

People might give bead maker a hard time

on longevity or something like that,

but as a like lubricant,

it actually works fantastically well.

That's what we have in our wash clay seal video.

You want to finish with defender, right?

But what is the best thing for a drying aid

So the thing is,

is if you're wanting to finish with a defender,

I mean, you could use defender as a drying aid

and you could just call it there,

you know, call it good there.

Your towels will get clogged

because you're using a drying aid,

you know, it was a defender.

And when it's a drying aid,

you're diluting it too.

What's happening is you're wanting to use

a particular product

because of its longevity, right?

But you're also kind of wanting to...

The things you're putting before that

could really impact,

you know, maybe the overall longevity

of the PNS defender, right?

So for example,

if you're using a drying aid

or a clay towel loop, right?

Ideally, like you could use bead maker,

but I would just do

wash clay seal with bead maker

and then just be done.

And then that's the end of it, right?

You could do wash clay seal with bead maker

and then top of the defender,

but there could be a chance that defender

may be impacted by the base layer of bead maker.

You can argue.

I mean, Sidney said you can do it.

You can do it.

It's not going to be a huge issue.

I don't know.

I haven't done it personally.

A detail spray, like using paint gloss

would probably be okay.

But if it was me

and I'm doing a wash clay seal,

I'm probably going to just use

absolute diluted at like, you know,

128 to 164 to 1.

Sure.

Use that as my drying aid clay loop

and then do an additional top coat

of basically defender as my final step.

That makes sense.

Yeah.

It's just, you're kind of,

I get what you're trying to say,

I get what you're trying to correct for.

It's, you're going through kind of a few hoops

there to get to that final result.

Because you want that specific product.

Yeah.

So it's just a question of like,

are you chasing results specifically

or is it because you already have the product

and you want to shoehorn it into your process?

Bead maker is great for wash clay seal.

It's just killer, right?

And you're going to be done so fast

and you're going to have a great result.

Defender is not great with a wash clay seal.

But it's going to last longer.

So it's a trade-off.

Yeah.

And that's why in that wash clay seal video

we have that popped off.

I mean, bead maker,

bead maker is just a better way to use

for clay loop.

hey guys, I applied ADS Phobic over the weekend

and discovered a few small high spots.

Method to polish the high spots by hand,

question mark.

I have no machine and there are only a few

small spots to do.

ADS Phobic, I'm sorry.

If you do a fair amount of like hand polishing

in a, you know.

Yeah.

So yeah, so what you're going to do

is just take just a towel like a 365

or like a low pile terry of any sort,

put a little compound on it and I'd work it into the towel.

Just kind of massage it in to where like the fibers

are coated with a little bit of the compound.

You're just going to take that and take it to the area

with a high spot and just gently kind of,

you know, up and down side to side and barely any pressure.

And then grab a different towel and then

buff off the compound and see how it looks.

Does it look better?

No.

Keep going.

If it doesn't, you know,

basically you're going to keep doing that until it looks better.

Now the downside of doing this is there is a chance

that you could obviously mar the fobite coating

and you could be like, aw dang it.

Well, it might look visually a little bit different,

but it'll still be better than a high spot.

So use a clean towel when doing this,

especially if you're putting compound on it.

Take your time.

Don't use a ton of pressure

and you'll probably fix it within the first,

you know, pass or two.

you're doing.

it's not a big car.

If you need to target a few areas and redo it.

It's doing a great job,

but I'm kind of doubling the passes

because I don't want to miss anything.

But it's handling it just fine,

but like hindsight, you know, 2020, right?

That's the one I usually went to.

It was next to a big five and it was just sad.

But anyway, so we did that.

And then on Monday, I was like,

you know what?

I am going to re-coat and re-polish my Honda Civic.

So that car has been

been re-spread a couple of different times

with different panels.

Some of the paint is still original on it.

But I was like, you know what?

You really need to polish this thing and re-coat it.

It does have some clear failure in a couple small spots,

which, you know, isn't my favorite thing.

And I've been essentially keeping this car on life support

with details for the last like seven years,

or eight years, I don't know how long I've had it.

It looks good in pictures to the point

that it kind of hides those imperfections.

Oh yeah, it looks so good in pictures and videos.

It looks insane.

Even in person to like a,

somebody doesn't really know, you know,

paint condition, they would probably go,

wow, this looks amazing.

I went through and spent a couple of days

doing a re-polish and a re-coat.

And I actually end up using Crystal Serum Ultra,

that I use from GTecnic.

And so we had a bottle that I was gifted, right,

from the team.

Normally you have to be, it's a professional only coating.

Certified installer kind of thing.

And I had this bottle, I'm like, you know,

it's been sitting for a while.

I really need to use it.

You know, it's just been sitting for so long,

I'm afraid it's going to go bad.

My other option would have been ADS Pro,

right, amazing coating.

I have that on the Raptor, I love it.

But I had this bottle of CSU, I'm like,

you know, I'm going to use it.

So did the coating on my Civic and literally went perfect.

It was a perfect install up to the point of the hood.

And I started coating the hood.

I was going to do four different sections.

Can I do like a square, like a cut in half, right?

And I do my first couple of sections.

Went great.

Second section went great.

Fourth section plied it, started wiping.

And I lost my towel.

I dropped on the Swiss tracks,

which isn't really that big of a deal.

Okay.

And I go, okay, well I need to grab some of my other towels, right?

Sure.

I go to the bin behind me where I had everything sitting.

Towels are gone, empty.

I used all my towels.

Oh no.

And I had already thrown them into the wash, right?

So I had a coating that I was in the process of leveling it.

Yeah, you can just...

And pushing around.

Oh boy.

And I didn't have a towel around me, right?

You have a little pucker moment there?

I ran over.

I'm like looking.

I'm like, where's a freaking...

I'm like, I am thinking this, guys.

Yeah.

Looking for a towel in my house that's covered in towels, right?

And I could not find a towel as this coating is sitting there.

And the thing is with CSU is it's serious crap, right?

You don't want to let that cure.

And I'm looking around.

I finally just say, screw it.

I'm just going to grab a ripping rag.

But like minutes has gone by, right?

Yeah.

I run and grab a ripping rag off my shelf.

I can rip it.

The box is kind of hanging on for dear life.

I'm pulling out of the box.

I run over to the car.

I start to try to remove the coating.

And unfortunately, that fourth area that I was kind of doing...

Yeah.

I had spread the coating out into the other areas doing my wipes,

which normally I'll kind of cup it inwards.

This one I kind of was like,

I think I don't know what happened.

I wasn't really paying attention.

I was wiping it.

Towel dropped.

I said, oh, whatever.

I'll grab it to the towel.

Basically, I lost a couple of minutes.

Grabbed a ripping rag.

Ripping rag.

Didn't do anything.

Like I literally am taking it to the coating.

Too late at that.

And the coating had already set up.

And I was like crap.

So over the entire middle of the hood,

I had white marks, right?

Push marks that you could see under the scan grip.

And this is why when people question,

they go, how come these brands have these like locked away

secret coatings that I have to go through training to use?

How come they don't just sell that to anybody and everybody?

Just sell it to Rando's off the street.

Why don't they do that?

It's because if you don't understand what you're working with,

this can happen.

But in this case, Anthony knows.

Anthony's been through the training.

He understands how this works.

His problem was just not having the necessary supplies

in the moment he needed them.

Well, if anybody was wondering,

I was using a two-tile method on the whole car, right?

I got to the hood.

I'm like, I'm in the last section.

And I'm like, and I was actually making good time,

but what had happened was I had,

one towel had kind of fallen or something.

And I had the one towel.

I'm like, I'll just do a multi-flip on this towel

and it should be fine.

And then whatever had happened, I had kind of dropped it.

And I'm so neurotic about, even on Swiss tracks,

the towel dropping on the ground during a coating,

especially on the hood, I'm like,

I'm not going to risk it, right?

So I ripped my rag and went over and didn't do anything.

So unfortunately, I had to re-coat.

I wanted to just re-coat that section,

polish off that section.

It was right in the middle of the hood.

So what ended up happening was,

as I was polishing that area,

the compound was spreading into the already coated areas

and all those polishing oils were starting to kind of

mar up the surface.

So unfortunately, I had to re-palsh out the whole hood

and re-coat it again.

To be clear, those ripping rags,

had you been able to get to that sooner,

you would have been okay because those towels

are capable of doing that.

But because it's a CSU, not CSL,

it was a ripping rag normal.

Not an XL, not an XL, not a Pearl one.

Which still could do the job.

That's what I'm saying though, they could do it.

If you had gotten to it in the timeframe needed.

So needless to say, I was freaking,

I was so mad at myself and I was like,

because you know when you're,

I was at the end of this, I'm like,

I wanted to be done.

I'm like, I'm not really having fun anymore.

I just want to finish this job and clean up the garage.

And yeah, high spots everywhere,

had to polish everything out.

I had to re-coat it all.

And it went fine in the car looks right now.

But just know that, you know,

no matter how many times you've done something,

you can still screw something up.

And it's a small setback, but it's just,

it's just annoying when it happens.

And I would just say if anything,

always have backup towels,

or any at all times, no matter what,

even if it's like one that's kind of partially used,

just have something,

because I think something's better than nothing.

But anyways, I did that.

Carl X-Rate, super happy with it.

It's very glossy, it's very bossy looking.

And also it's an engine bay cleaning on and whatnot.

And did that.

So kind of felt good.

This is my first time actually

in my own garage doing a full blown,

you know, polishing coat with my new set up there

with the flooring and everything.

And did you use the quick jacks?

Did not use the quick jacks.

Could probably could have.

If I could have saved your back a little.

I could have got them off the wall.

But actually what's funny is I kind of enjoyed,

like I was just, I got a yoga mat, right?

Remember my yoga mat that I was using

So I just lay out a yoga mat.

And I just kind of lay down on my side

and I was just polishing out the side skirts

and I was comfortable.

I wasn't bending, I wasn't doing anything,

you know, super, super bad.

It felt really good.

So, well nice.

Anyway, so that's what I did.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you guys that

even sometimes, you know,

even pros mess up with having a re-coat crap.

Yeah, I want anybody watching right now,

if you screwed up on something lately,

like don't take it too personally.

Even if your experience is Anthony,

he's got a ton of experience under his belt.

He knows what he's doing.

I trust him to work on anybody's car here, certainly.

But yeah, I mean,

it doesn't matter how much practice you have,

you can still mess up once in a while

and that's okay.

Just try and have extra tools around if you can

and don't open yourself up to that possibility.

It's just high spots and coatings

and all that kind of stuff.

I mean, it's always better to obviously see the spot,

you know, as soon as you can, right?

Especially if the coating particularly has a long,

how do you say it?

A long working life, right?

Where you can actually re-wipe that area.

Well, in working time, yeah.

And then there's other coatings too

that are cannibalistic,

meaning that you can take that coating,

a wet applicator, go right back over that area

and then re-wipe it

and it will fix that high spot, right?

Some coatings are capable of doing that.

CSU is not, right, unfortunately.

Which is why it is a gate kept product.

So anyways, after I did CSU,

I was like, all right, should I do EXO?

And I was like, oh my God,

I think we're just gonna just do CSU.

CSU and EXO is crazy.

It's just, it's a, you know, it's a process.

Yeah.

What's the best GSM towel for exterior?

That doesn't shed.

So GSM has nothing to do with whether or not

a towel will lint or shed.

Correct, totally different things.

That is going to be weave.

Your weave is going to dictate sometimes

whether or not a towel can lint or shed.

So typically anything with a plush circular knit

or something that is more of a high pile

will have a chance of linting shedding.

Towels that are usually twist loop,

shorter towel or twist loop,

whether they're long or short.

Circular knit or fleece.

You're talking about linting towels, right?

Yeah, I'm talking about ones more since like a twist loop wouldn't.

No, twist loop won't lint.

Terry very rarely do they really have linting issues.

Pearl weaves, linting is not a, you know.

Really shouldn't be on those.

Not really an issue with those.

So it comes down to weave, that's basically what it is.

But at the same time the towels we're talking about

that do have that possibility of linting,

it's also not a guarantee there either.

So it really depends on the products being used,

the conditions they're used in,

and sometimes it's just down to the construction

of that one individual towel,

where it was in the manufacturing process

versus one further down the line

that maybe didn't get, you know,

whatever little cork happened to make that one linty.

Unfortunately linting is more, it's just,

it's a part of my Krabber towels,

they will all lint or have an issue at some point.

And it's often, usually maybe not even that particular towel,

it could be another towel that's linting onto that towel.

It just towels will hold on to so many different things.

And static charge effects.

What I would say is that if, you know,

if you're taking a towel

and you're wiping it across glass or paint

and you are seeing like an abundance,

I mean, I'm talking a snail trail of lint,

that's usually when I call it.

And I say, hey, you know,

maybe it's time to either demote this towel,

or get rid of it, or do something,

because that's when it's a problem.

But if you're seeing a few micro,

you know, micro pieces here and there,

you know about that.

Yeah.

Sheepstar asking Kevin how noticeable they are,

if they're not easily seen leave on Kevin replies,

the worst is a line down the center of my windshield.

The rest on the body aren't too bad,

except for one panel where this looks like permanent streaks.

I got a hold of some Wolfpack towels.

I found that I enjoy using them for interior details.

So they got a polished lip.

I mean, basically just go through the standard wheel cleaner.

Chances are if they've been sitting with brake dust

for a long period of time,

you know, pinning may or may not have happened, right?

If they were, you know, if they've been, I don't know, I...

Depend...

Polish wheels, how do I say this?

Polish lips are going to pit.

They can possibly have etching.

They can possibly have brake dust that's caked on

that will just kind of turn into like kind of surface corrosion.

There's a lot of...

There's so many different things that can happen.

What I would say is start off with a good wheel cleaner.

See what happens.

You can use brake buster.

You can use a lot of different things.

Whether they are coated or uncoated,

you'll probably figure that out pretty soon,

but I'm assuming since it's a complete polish lip,

it's uncoated.

So clean them, examine.

What do they look like?

Do they need to be repolished?

Repolish them yourself if you want to do that.

If they don't need to be repolished.

Sorry.

I think our floor is starting to come up.

I heard a creak right under the floor where we are.

If we just suddenly fall through the floor here.

That means there's a sinkhole underneath us.

because apparently I got through it pretty quick.

We're using a little bit of sternocloss products.

And right now, at the ragcomony.com, they're on sale.

any, which is their interior cleaner.

Now, they're glass cleaner, which is glass.

Yeah, just glass.

Just glass and something.

And then their sweet air freshener for Mr. Seabass.

It's pretty potent.

And he's kind of sensitive to smells.

Hey, guys, I was polishing my wife's older red clear coated car.

And my yellow pad turned red.

Must have been some new color changing polish, right?

Right.

Man, don't do that.

No, that's sadness kicking in that, whoops,

no more clear left.

I got down to the base coat.

Yeah.

That's called the fun coat.

The color coat.

That's the fun coat.

Yeah.

That's where all the action is.

Fun and sadness.

You know, it starts there.

So if that happens to you and you're new to, you know,

say paint correction, polishing anything like that,

what should you do, Anthony?

Stop immediately.

Unless you're working on a single stage car

in which case you're going to get color on your pad.

But if you are working on a clear coated car

and you get color, that's when you should stop.

And you would think like, hey, maybe this is just a weird thing

and maybe it'll get better.

It doesn't.

I'm just don't even do it.

And then there's going to be that voice that says,

ah, just a little bit more.

Just to confirm that this is definitely clear coat failure.

There's a little bit more.

But the problem is, is he buzzed down a little bit more

and then it rapidly happens and your one little one inch

patch now turns into a five inch patch.

And you go, oh crap, it's definitely burning

through the clear coat.

Right.

And you look at that patch and then it bothers you

and you go, oh no, this is horrible.

Right.

What's my plan?

So then from there, you think, okay,

I got to call some body shops to get repainted.

Right.

They're going to tell you they're a month out,

maybe two months out.

Right.

Probably.

And you're going like, oh crap.

So now I have to stare at this five inch patch

for the next two months.

And other people are going to say, hey,

what happened to your car right there?

What happened to your car right there?

Yeah.

How come you're drawing something so

busted and sad like that?

And it's going to haunt you for two months

versus stop all your head, leave it as that little one

inch spot, put a sticker over it.

Don't even think about it.

Just a little bandage.

Call the body shop, get it repainted in two months

and don't think about it until then.

But I've just, I've been through this

and it will drive you crazy.

So just, so stop all your head.

Good advice.

Sorry.

Sorry, I kind of went off on a thing there.

No.

It's like I'm going from personal experience

and also just, you know, it just is what it is.

I burned through Dan's clear coat like three times

and it's just fun every time.

It was, that was really fun in my van

where they had those, gosh, to be fair,

you were using a 3D eraser wheel.

Yeah, that was unfortunate.

My favorite burn through on one of your vehicles.

Okay, keep in mind guys, Dan's just,

he's bringing cars in that don't even have clear coat on them.

I buy vehicles that are eccentric

and possibly a little bit on the spectrum themselves.

The particular vehicle we're talking about here,

you can find a video of it,

it means whatever you wanted to me.

No, but Dean.

The JDM van I had, the 94 Toyota Town Ace

where you sat on top of the engine

and it was just great fun.

What a fun vehicle that was.

You loved it.

Slow as hell, but so much fun.

You loved that thing.

I did love that.

Yeah, the paint on that was a true.

I'm not interested man.

So it had stickers on it before.

The stickers had baked into the clear coat.

Oh yeah.

So meaning that the stickers

were actually into the clear coat.

Just over time, what happens is that

with just wear and tear and heat cycles,

vinyl can eventually penetrate pores of clear, right?

And what happens is that vinyl doesn't come off very easily.

It comes off in little chunks, little pieces.

And so what happens is you have to then,

you know, take an eraser wheel

or try to remove it to the best of your abilities.

Well, when you have clear that's already so minimal

and you have vinyl that's baked into that minimal clear,

the chances of you blowing through that,

that clear through the vinyl,

pretty high, pretty likely.

So that's what happened with Dane's van.

But that, that was just like a,

hey, that was going to happen probably.

The Montero that Dane had was my favorite.

That was just a bad.

Dane had this.

But I loved what it was.

Montero, it was black.

I loved the Montero.

And I was like, we were looking at it,

we were like, man, this paint's so hammered.

Like there's really not a lot of clear coat left.

And I was like, you know what?

Let me yellow pad and hyper polish it.

Let me just like see really quick,

like what we can do.

Hyper polish isn't going to hurt it.

I walked out there with like a cordless machine.

I literally think it took a pixie out there,

something like that.

Nothing too crazy.

I just threw a yellow pad on there.

I think I had some hyper polish.

I shot the pad really quick.

I cleaned off the area.

And I run the hyper polish on there.

I don't know.

15 seconds.

You're in the front quarter,

like the hood or something.

I'm trying to remember where you were.

15 seconds.

Speed of whatever, three out of four.

And bam, burned through.

Wipe it off and I go, no way.

Pretty wild.

How?

How is that even possible?

And you're just waiting for somebody to like

blow on it and the paint would just fly away.

Funny enough, even with the burn,

it still looked a lot better than it did before.

True.

But yeah, there's been a couple instances where that's happened.

But you don't ever want it to be your car.

You don't ever want it to be a customer's car.

You just, you want it to be like a learning situation.

And then you just never do it again, ideally.

But I don't know.

There's also, I've, yeah, I see.

Both my current cars have good paint,

so I'm not too worried about it.

I feel like this is a detail.

You're going to do it at least one time.

Yeah.

What you don't want to do though,

is burn through paint on a live video.

Oh no.

That's incredibly embarrassing.

I would feel terrible.

I would hate that.

I was going to hold and I would never come out.

Most Civics are pretty easy to bring back to life.

So what I would probably do is buy myself a mid on a stick.

And then I dip that mitt.

I would just use that.

And I mean, that's just for the areas that are hard to reach.

I still hate that thing because the roof I have to kind of climb up onto the

ledge of the door panel and hold on to the thing and do my wash that way.

But for the new forerunners though, I actually was at the dealership over the weekend.

Or no, over my time off, I had to take my wife's car in for an oil change.

Holy crap.

I'm not a fan of the way they look.

I went.

Somebody took a fit, Jenna, and then just inflated it.

I tried to start two different conversations.

First and foremost, took my wife's forerunner for an oil change.

Took it to the dealership, right?

Because I've always taken her car to the dealership.

Mainly because I just like to have the maintenance records there,

because it just, it looks good on the car faxed to me.

Yeah.

In a car that's literally just resell value only.

Also, do you own a Toyota?

So Toyota people will harp on that.

Well, no, I know.

So that's why I'm my, my.

We know a Toyota person in this office who definitely would pay attention to something like that.

My resell mind is like, just get it done at the dealership.

It'll pay itself, it'll pay for itself 10-fold when you go to sell the car, right?

Do I look like a man who cares about resale value?

Yeah, yeah.

It's pretty much every Toyota person ever.

So then, I've always taken it there.

And the oil change has been like 80 bucks, right?

It's what I've always paid.

It's like a full synthetic $8 change.

It sucks, but whatever it is, what it is.

If I do it myself, it's usually around like 50 to 60, right?

Mm-hmm.

$115 a day.

$115 they hit me with.

And I go, what?

And she goes, yeah, the prices did increase just a little bit.

And I go, a little bit.

I was here like four months ago.

What happened?

And she goes, oh, I just, yeah, these just, that's just the price.

Maybe you got a promotion.

You got promoted to a new price.

$115 for a freaking oil change?

I go, are you kidding me?

So that still is painful.

I'm still thinking about that.

But I did go and look at the new 4Runners.

And I will say that they are growing on me the more I look at them.

They look like they have growths.

I know.

They're growing up.

But you know what I would say?

Also four cylinder only.

So here's what I'd probably want.

Just give me the same reliable motor that my current 4Runner has,

but give me the option to upgrade to the new looking one, right?

If I want that.

And the main reason being is that while the six cylinders

very slow and very boring to drive, it's bulletproof.

But that's why.

It's bulletproof.

That's why Toyota people like it.

But the new 4Runners, the interiors are sweet, dude.

I like the interior.

I love that retro kind of like new age.

And the seats are sick too because the seats,

they did like a tweet on them.

And they feel really like high quality because of that,

because of how tight the stitching is.

Because what they did on the, my, the fourth generation is

they put that like crappy or fifth generation.

They put that crappy like crinkled fabric in it.

And I go, what is this?

It's horrible.

It's like, it's like recycled, you know, it's like ego fabric.

It's not your favorite.

It's hideous.

And so I always thought to myself, if someday

my wife ever is like, hey, I want a new car,

but we decided to keep the 4Runner no matter what,

and I get my hands on it, then I will modify it

and make it the best ever.

There you go.

With a completely new fabric interior.

You like do some like actual seat covers

like catskin covers.

Yeah, I put leather, leather,

and I probably heated seats or something.

You don't have heated seats in that?

Here's this while they're talking.

What?

Oh, sorry, Carson.

What's that?

So we've got the midonna stick here.

This has the optional extra pole.

So you can see this is the three poles.

That is capable of as tall a vehicle as you're comfortably

going to work on.

I'm voraciously 5'8", and it's up to my shoulders.

Plus this, you know, you're taller than me,

probably a good six foot.

And so, you know, you can get up there quite a bit.

My favorite thing is you wash the top, right?

You scrub the top, you scrub your hood,

you scrub wherever.

And then you can just pop this off.

And if you're careful enough with not hitting

and using the buttons on the back,

you can just use this as a regular wash mitt.

You just have to dunk a little bit more,

and you can't flip it.

But it's just fine.

You don't have to get a separate wash mitt.

I do that all the time when I wash at home.

So keep that in mind.

I feel like you look like a wizard right now.

Mike, so you know, he has a staff.

Gand off the gray, right?

There's also a Gand off the white.

What about Carson the black?

Yeah, there you go.

Yeah, great.

Well, awesome.

So, oh, oh, OK, a towel that doesn't shed.

For applying spray sealants.

I would go ahead and try an FTW.

You might just love the FTW.

Just wash it after, wash it immediately after you're done.

And so it doesn't seal the towel.

But that will probably give you, you'll love that experience.
