Concept
low mileage quality vehicle
When someone says “low mileage,” they mean the car has been driven less than average. “Quality vehicle” is basically the seller saying it’s in good shape, not a problem car.
Topic
pre-owned auto stores
This is about used-car dealerships and how they help you shop for a car that’s already been owned.
Concept
car facts won't save your bacon
The point is that if a seller doesn’t tell the truth about a car’s past, then the information you’re given might not be enough to protect you from surprises.
A write-off is when insurance decides the car is too expensive to fix, so they treat it as a total loss. You usually get paid based on what the car was worth, not fixed.
Circular economics is the idea of keeping things in use longer—repairing them, reusing parts, and recycling materials instead of throwing everything away. The host is comparing that to the idea of planned obsolescence.
The host mentions a company called Linder Tech Services where someone started working after leaving a different job. It’s brought up as part of the story about diagnosing car problems.
They mention “lindertek” as the group behind a challenge and the discussion. It’s basically a company/organization connected to the people running the training.
Alternative fuel just means a fuel other than regular gas or diesel. The episode discusses different possibilities like hydrogen, natural gas, and propane.
Fuel injectors are the parts that deliver gasoline (or other fuels) into the engine. They control how much fuel goes in and when, which affects how efficiently the car runs.
The Toyota Corolla is a popular small car that’s often known for lasting a long time. Here, the host is using an older Corolla as an example of a car that was hard to break.
In an automatic transmission, the valve body helps control how the car shifts gears. If it fails, the car may shift poorly, so the host is saying they haven’t had that kind of transmission trouble.
An automatic transmission is the part of the car that shifts gears for you. The host is talking about it because some cars have transmission problems more often than others.
The host is talking about the suspicion that companies build things so they wear out on purpose. The claim is that the car won’t last forever, even if you maintain it.
Planned obsolescence is the idea that something is made to wear out or stop working after a while. The host is suggesting that this might be happening with cars.
A three-speed manual is a manual gearbox with three forward gears. You shift it yourself, and on older vehicles it can be simpler and often easier to keep running.
A “327 V8” is an older Chevrolet engine with eight cylinders. The host is using this specific engine as part of the story about a classic truck that still gets used.
The Chevy C10 Fleetside is an older pickup truck from the late 1960s. In the segment, they describe a 1967 one with a V8 and a manual gearbox that can still be driven, supporting the idea that older vehicles can last.
Aftermarket parts are replacement parts made by other companies, not the car brand. They help older cars keep running because you can usually find parts without going to the dealer every time.
Remanufactured parts are old parts that get rebuilt and tested again. They’re often cheaper than brand-new parts but still aim to work like the original.
Concept
dealer frustration strategy
The host is describing a claim that dealerships make it so inconvenient or expensive to repair a car that people eventually quit and buy a newer one instead.
Concept
abandon the vehicle
Here, “abandon the vehicle” means giving up on fixing the same car and choosing to replace it instead.
Concept
sweet spot (30 to 60 000 kilometers)
The “sweet spot” is a mileage range where the car is supposedly easiest and cheapest to keep fixing instead of replacing. The host says it’s around 30 to 60 thousand kilometers.
A warranty is like a repair guarantee for a limited time. After it expires, you usually have to pay for repairs yourself, which can make an older car more expensive to keep running.
Concept
back load the losses
The idea is that companies plan for some repairs and build the costs into the price, even if the repairs happen later. The host’s claim is that the buyer ends up paying for those expected problems.
A “prosumer” is basically someone who does more than just buy things—they also learn how to handle them. In this context, the host means you may need to be more involved in maintenance and repairs once warranty coverage is gone.
“Wear and tear” refers to normal degradation of parts from everyday use—things like tires, brakes, belts, and other components that naturally age. The host contrasts this with unexpected failures, arguing that some cars mostly need routine replacement items rather than repeated major repairs.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a type of SUV designed to handle rough roads and light off-road driving. It’s known for being fairly simple to keep running, so owners often focus on routine things like oil changes and regular inspections. That’s why it comes up when people talk about dependable older vehicles.
Volkswagen is a car company. The story here is about them fixing a part issue while cars were still being built, by changing suppliers so the new cars came out with the corrected part.
A vendor is a company that supplies parts to the carmaker. Here, the host says Volkswagen changed suppliers to get a better version of a part that was failing.
An assembly line is how factories build cars step-by-step. The host is saying the fix happened during production, not after the cars were already finished.
A pattern failure means the same problem keeps happening to more than one car. The point of the story is that the manufacturer tried to fix it at the source so new cars wouldn’t keep having the same issue.
The segment’s core idea is that older cars can be cheaper to own and run if you keep up with maintenance and avoid major failures. The host frames this as a “win” strategy because you’re not paying for frequent new-car purchases and financing. This is essentially a cost-of-ownership argument rather than a performance claim.
Concept
car payment vortex
It’s a way of describing a bad cycle: a car has problems, you buy another one, and then you end up paying for that new car too—again and again.

MotorMouth Morning Drive edition. I'm Niall MotorMouth Jenkins. Thanks for stopping by. If
you're just scooting through the drive through, get your order, double check it, lock it down in
your cup holder. We don't want any morning beverage disasters. I could tell you a story about that,
but not today. It was, it wasn't good. It did not end up well. That's all I'm going to say. And it
all happened in downtown Dunville, wee hours of the morning in 1996. There, I leave you with that.
Some suspenders on that one. Well, get your morning beverage and snack and goodie, whatever you
call it. Get that package put together. We've got a lot to get through this morning in a short
period of time. So let's jump in right away and have our morning swiggy together. So get
yourself back out on the road and the 16 pack of Crayola crayons and a freshly pressed leaf bag.
That's our car connection workshop laptop. Yeah, you can take notes continuously without
issue without issue whatsoever. How cool is that? Is that technology? Yes, it is. So if you if you
miss anything we talk about here, you'll find all of it on our website at carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com.
I don't give you a whole pile of choices because I find myself that's way too much way too much
spreading yourself out for people. People are starting to feel it. That's what I'm being told.
Oh, there's just way too much information coming at us. You're right. You're absolutely right.
It's like sucking on a fire hose. So we make it simple for you. Head to our website,
carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com. That's where our program partners are. You'll find their
logos there on the home page. Click and meet them and thank you for giving them your business
because that's what helps us to be here and they've supported us on the the big change over from
radio networks over to digital. So something we probably should have done a lot sooner. But you
know what? Sometimes you really got to be pushed to do something that you know you need to be doing
but you're not doing it. As one of my former employers, who is a military instructor, he'd
say this. He was Italian. He'd say you got to be doing what you got to be doing and you got to be
doing it. So these flashbacks, I think they're going to go on for a long time. So visit our home
page of our website in the top right hand corner, all the platforms that you can just put your
cursor there, click, it will take you there instantly. So we have our YouTube link there for
you, Facebook, Instagram. That's where our skippy, our videographer from Steven's Hill puts up bloopers
and reels and things that I know she's recording behind my back when we're recording on Mondays
here in the car connection workshop studio. In fact, she let that slip yesterday. Oh, you weren't
supposed to. Oh, you didn't see me get that, right? Get what? Okay, we're good. Yeah, I'm just working
on some new stuff for Facebook and Instagram and Stevensville on the web where skippy has made us
the expert in automotive and helps us put articles up there and you can connect with us through that
website anytime as well. We also have our I heart radio, excuse me. That's more better and adjustment.
That's why we have the cough button that we never use. It's true because it sneaks up on you too
fast. That's where you can just click the I heart radio icon. It'll take you to our all our podcasts
and all our podcasts are loading into our YouTube channel anyway now and it's fantastic. So when this
podcast is uploaded and scheduled and edited and it'll fire itself right into our YouTube channel.
So we have well over 400 items for you to peruse that will teach you all the five things always
what it is where it is how it works how it breaks and what are some of the basic fundamentals of
vehicle ownership that you can learn. Anyone can learn that will save you thousands of dollars
and a lot of headaches and heartaches and cash. Yeah, hard cash. How does that sound? So to get
our podcasts, you can go to Spotify, Apple, Amazon, Podbean. Yeah, nobody sent me an email yet.
If you had a vehicle and you named it Podbean, what vehicle would that be that would suit
that name? I throw it out there again because I already have a vehicle in mind that would best
suit in my in my mind the name Podbean. So anyway, share that we're on every podcast platform out
there just type in the search box car connection workshop car connection workshop and you'll find
us there's also an online merch store on the top right hand corner as well all proceeds from
anything you purchase in our online store you can buy the size the color a very unique car
connection coffee mug it's the first one ever in 32 years grab yourself one we're still waiting for
ours to show up I think we're gonna have poke somebody just gently and you pay safely online
and get shipped directly to your door through freedom expressions which is part of total freedom
the total freedom addiction campuses so that's where all the proceeds go we've decided all the
proceeds Skippy and I all the proceeds go turn back to total freedom addiction campuses Canada and
U.S. where a new life awaits those who have made that decision today's the day to say goodbye to
that addiction for good that's what they do there for almost 25 years and they are extremely good at
it when those who have made that decision to take on that addiction and do whatever it takes
to break through go under go around go over and get out of that addiction for good so
if you want to help out that's how you can do it and thank you for the that support in advance
well let's have our morning swiggy together and let's thank our certified financial planners Tony
me Ellie and Larry teacher all my brothers for other mothers they have 50 years experience
they're both with IG wealth management one of the best renowned fiduciary companies in the
entire planet they play with money and they know how to help your money work hard for you so if
you have questions regarding an investment portfolio if it's with a bank you need to get that hour in
a coffee booked so that your money is working hard for you not for the bank okay and I'm allowed to
say that if you have debt and it's you're drowning in it another reason to get your your hour in a
coffee estate planning powers of attorney and beneficiaries the whole package needs to be
sewed up tightly not with a do it yourself program and just talking with somebody yesterday about
that how important it is in their words how important it is to get to a proper estate planner
to get your estate plan for properly if you have kids that are 18 years and older
do you argue their health proxy these are things you need to ask they do mortgages I haven't had
a mortgage with a bank for almost 15 years now great rates wonderful people to deal with amazing
the mortgage department out in Winnipeg the ladies are fabulous life insurance critical illness
insurance and I will quote on that insurance of any type gets my hair standing up but you
know what here's the deal it seems like an expense folks but the moment you need it it's a very wise
investment so Tony and Larry my brothers from mother mothers they are my personal financial
planners they don't need any more clients they just want to help those who are connected with
through me through car connection so leave your wallet at home and your purse book that one hour
discovery meaning we call an hour in a coffee and get your questions answered by those who have
the credentials certified financial planners advisors are not cfps you have to know the
difference they're not there's automotive apprentices and then there's fully licensed
qualified automotive techs that's me I was blessed to be able to create some fantastic
apprentices and occasionally I hear from some of them and it really really tugs at my heart
that they learn stuff and they are where they are because they listened and they learned and they
did so connect with Tony Miele and Larry T troll their logos are on the homepage or a website
just pick them out click and connect so you can meet with them in by zoom by phone conference
in a coffee shop in a box with a fox in the uh the board room at IG and St. Catharines
or Grimsby wherever you're comfortable the fellas will meet with you so pick who you
want to work with and get your questions answered and let's move you forward let's move you forward
this is something folks where you don't go asking a co-worker a friend a neighbor or someone doing
your opinion poll it's where you know what you sit down and you get the right answers and get
a game plan life will change very quickly very very quickly so as my prof would say if you're
crossing a minefield motor mouth who would you want to listen to someone who's on the other
side that just crossed it or somebody standing behind you that's never crossed it giving instructions
there you go well let's have our morning swiggy mine's already and primed and ready to go
i bought you some time there and get through the drive through we count it down on three two one
and we have our morning swiggy together so it's kind of like being together but we're not okay three
two one
that's a taste of okay this morning that's for sure
all right keep your eyes on the road and thank you to uh
Earl Louise Grant city auto sales and leasing for bringing us our Tuesday morning weather report
so if you're in the market to find a low mileage quality vehicle at fair prices you're in the right
place at city auto sales and leasing with Earl Louise Grant husband and wife team for 25 years
they have resources to locate that specific vehicle that you are on the hunt for so if they
don't have it in an inventory you need to check in with them because they won't push pull and drag
some junk onto their lot because they sell no junk quality vehicles at fair prices with low
mileage greater Toronto areas premier pre-owned auto stores so check in with Earl Louise Grant
that's your new car purchasing family you don't need to go anywhere else they have lots of inventory
under roof and on the lot but again if they don't have what you're looking for let them do
and save you a thousand steps they have the resources if it's out there and it's any good
then Earl will find it if it's out there and it's not any good he'll leave it right where it is
you understand me it's great to have Earl Louise and city auto sales and leasing a part of car
connection because that's an area of life I have fielded so many emails from people buying junk
off of corner car lots not to say they're all bad folks but a majority of them are selling
lipstick on a pig skunk and a mink coat they're just buying them cheap they could be smashed up
before if none of that wreckage is ever reported the car facts won't save your bacon it won't
everybody has to be honest yes I crashed my car all I was going to go through insurance but I
decided to pay for it myself so then it's not reported it happened but it's not reported
it's kind of like if a tree falls in the woods and no one's around does it still make a noise
I don't know I can't answer that one well let's take a look at today's weather it's not that good
I'm stalling yeah I'm stalling because it's not that great but here it is we might as well get
the bad stuff out of the way first rain something new I know they say April showers bring maize flowers
but I'm almost feeling like I need to go hang out with the canards the ducks point eight five
of an inch might as well call it one one inch you might as well you might as well just roll that up
and forget roll back it's not going to happen today it's roll up and that's not the rim to win or
whatever you know I don't I don't even do that stuff anymore because I always get I win the
opportunity to pay again am I the only one 53 degrees right now partly cloudy the wind is
making it feel cooler about 43 degrees cloudy conditions from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. with drizzle
well I'll tell you what just slightly before 4 a.m. this morning it was it was throwing down
gerbils and hamsters here on the south shores of Lake Erie so drizzle expected around 7 to 8 a.m. so
drive safe out there slow down slow it down folks drizzle expected again around 3 p.m. today's
temperature range will be 47 to 59 degrees feeling more like 41 to 50 degrees yesterday's high was
59 no sorry 67 there was a sweet day yesterday absolutely Skippy and I were shooting videos
it was really really nice to be able to take a coffee break enjoy some sunshine today we're
going to top out at 59 and it's going to be wetness so you may want to take your Nelly take your
umbrella you might want to have that with you might be a good plan of attack well what are we
talking about today stuff okay so you want to know perfect well today's title of today's program
episode 156 we're heading for season three very very shortly we'll change things over to do that
I got to thinking could you smell the smoke or see the black smoke that's plastic yeah wearing
a plastic hat you know and I've talked about that that's the seriousness about today's vehicles
is the amount of plastic so if there is a under hood fire due to a leakage of some kind of
flammable fluid by the time the fire department gets there or somebody even gets on the phone
it's already a write-off because all that plastic is expensive and the cost to replace it
insurance won't do that they're just going to write it off instantly so planned obsolescence
we're going to be talking about that a little bit more today planned obsolescence I have been
doing some research for several weeks now and the general consensus from all the research that I've
been doing it's something that was that came out very interesting yesterday in hearing a former
engineer of General Motors that's former in a conversation that was in fact I'm going to
relisten while I'm working and editing in the studio this afternoon and most of the morning
um yeah it really kind of gathered everything in and put it in a very neat little package
entitled planned obsolescence and uh and doing my research for several weeks now
I even used the you know the electronic gizmo gadget that everybody else is
using and excited about and I asked it a couple of specific questions with regards to automotive
and I'm being careful here because I don't want that particular uh program to grab hold of everything
I'm saying I'm not giving it the answers but I'm giving you the answers I got a very interesting
reply when I asked three a series of three specific questions that I'd already done my
homework on and discovered what I heard this engineer talking about yesterday former engineer
for General Motors and my research my own research not asking the device if you know what I'm saying
I did my own research myself my person my time and didn't go the so-called short route
and and think that I'm going to get an untainted answer and I'll tell you what I got an answer
that was completely opposite a hundred percent opposite to what I'd been researching with regards
to planned obsolescence and circular economics so that's a term you're you're gonna want to
write down and do a little I challenge you do a little research on your own because what many
of us have have discovered is why does this always break why is it always the same thing
why aren't they fixing that why aren't they making correction and the list goes and why
are the transmissions failing why are the engines failing what's going on here these are these are
conversations I've had with real people not technicians our conversations have been around
this planned obsolescence since 1992 and it all started in a class and I'm sharing from my heart
today because I'm going to tie this all into a really cool package is in 1992 I was not on the
radio waves yet but thinking about it and was invited to a two-day seminar at the airport
international center in Toronto where over 2000 automotive service technicians were going to be
there for two days all day seminars and rotating into different classrooms with different instructors
it was fabulous I've never been to anything that scope before and it was a fabulous two days and
I learned so much from these amazing instructors that came in were just phenomenal diagnosticians
and one young lady who what used to about a year or two before was flipping burgers
this little skinny blonde bombshell was an amazing automotive diagnostician she decided to change
careers and took a job with a company called lender tech services in gasoline alley in Indiana
and Jim Linder is the he is the CEO of that corporation I don't know if he's still alive but
another fantastic compassionate person about the automotive world and and taking on car issues
vehicle issues that shouldn't be reoccurrence reoccurrence all the time fix it fix the thing you've
got engineers to fix it he'd say why aren't you fixing it but the aftermarket can fix it
why is it that the aftermarket can fix these problems that you have ongoing with your your
vehicles you're pumping out like chicklets but you won't well here we are 2026 the answers
are coming are boiling over in the cauldron that they've been pushing down and suppressing along
with the media helping them out you know don't say the quiet part out loud don't do that
that's why i'm here for you the car owner i'm not here for for the companies for the the car
manufacturers the dealerships i'm here for you to educate you through my over four decades of
experience and watching these pattern failures over and over and over and over and now they've
gone to the next level so in this this two-day seminar they were talking about planned obsolescence
that was 1992 and over 2000 technicians were sharing some of the pattern failures with different
automobile manufacturers and in their shops stuff they saw coming in the door so not rumor here's
say popular opinion specific makes and models coming in with the same problems over and over
and over again pattern failures well now we've really got some serious pattern failures and you
have to ask yourself how come of this how can this be happening when we're supposed to have
better technology better engineering today than 1967 and i'll tell you why i say that in a moment
so anyways jim linder put a challenge out to all of us in the introductory meeting to
what we were going to experience in the next two days this was like eight o'clock in the morning
just after a quick continental breakfast and everybody to work it wasn't just a hangout
tongue wag session this was in the classroom hardcore and then you move on to the next elective
it was business as usual we weren't there to just hang out and drink coffee and share
stories and whatnot it was learning and it was fabulous the question jim linder from lindertek
in indian and gasoline alley that's where they are humongous shop i think it's like 20 plus service
base we don't have anything like that in canada he said what do you think as service technicians
will be the final choice in um alternative fuel and so we were all handed a paper we were to put
our name and what shop we were from and where we were in our um skilled trades so whether we were
first year second year third year fourth year apprentice or licensed and if we were licensed
already how many years and put our answer on the sheet and the last day was when the conclusion
to the gathering of all those pages came in and everyone was all over the map it was from natural
gas to propane to um hydrogen and um and crazy just crazy stuff some crazy answers there weren't a
whole lot of people saying electric vehicles at that time because they were busy trying to
figure out how to use hydrogen water right get hydrogen out of water and use hydrogen to as
the alternative fuel so then jim linder went on to say we we have access to fuel injectors that
are been engineered that will get a vehicle 100 miles to the gallon that's right that's what i just
said that have the capability to create 100 miles to the gallon fuel economy he says we have that
technology right now right today all this other stuff it's just fluff we have been suppressing
the engineering to create fuel injectors that will get vehicles 100 miles to the gallon why
aren't we using it that was the big question that was left with us at the very end of the day the
closing seminar that was where jim linder himself went over all the sheets that we handed in he said
some really good answers but no one had the answer so i'm giving you the answer
why aren't we doing it we've had the technology for a very long time and he says we can build
injectors that get 100 miles to the gallon but they won't allow us to do it
that's a big tada isn't it that's stinking humongous so fast forward
i get a package in the mail at this point in time i've been on the air
about 12 years i got a package from a couple of scientists in Niagara Falls Canada
showing me a system that they were twin brothers showing me a system in the plans and everything
to build a device that works that actually burned water in your car
that got hundreds of miles to the gallon one of those brothers disappeared they never found them
it was the other brother that sent me this package it kind of creeped me out to be honest
but when i look through it i'm going this thing actually works and it went it was adapted to
just a basic regular old gasoline internal combustion engine what we call ice and i still
have that packet and he told me he said they're coming for me just hang on to the package i wanted
you to have it and i haven't heard anything since not a thing so i don't say that to creep you out
but i'm telling you the truth these are things that i've experienced in over four decades it's
creepy folks and now we're at that place where you're far better off this particular engineer
i listened to yesterday former engineer for Jenner Motors the question he was asked in the
conversation was if you were if you were in the market for a pickup truck tomorrow like who's would
you buy and he said i would go i would go hunting for an older pickup from like late 90s early 2000s
in good solid condition and i would refurbish it and drive that thing off into the sunset forever
because it will and my ears went up like satellite dishes because that's what i've been thinking and
and have figured out for decades that's why i drive older vehicles with simplistic systems on
and here we're going to go just a little step deeper is i mentioned just the other day that i've
never had a bad toyota and i couldn't tell you exactly how many i've owned but i would definitely
be able to solidly say 20 at least that's probably way under the first toyota i had was
like a 70 something 73 or 74 toyota corolla was bright orange it was like jamaican orange
and i didn't like it it wasn't me and i sold it in a heartbeat i had a little 1600 engine and you
couldn't kill that thing those engines were just bulletproof the little 1600 was crazy good
so then i got into toyota selicas or some people say selica i call them selicas my good my friend
alex at the time got me into toyotas and i'm grateful for that because i've had them ever since
but as i said i've never had a bad one where power window motors were going wiper motors going
blower motors going um engine problems transmission problems zero zero on the score meter so i have
to say this if their vehicles aren't dropping valve bodies out of the automatic transmission like
chiclets and the air their engines i mean they do have an engine problem at the moment but
they're i'm sure they're working on it i'm sure they will be because toyota is proud of the quality
of product they put out all the things wiper motors blower motors wind electric window motors
computers none of that stuff went south on me on any of the toyotas i own not a single one
and you have to say well what are they doing differently than the other manufacturers that
are just plagued with problems continuously that's the question you have to ask yourself
you you need to ask yourself what is the answer to that question so what are these
other manufacturers doing my 99 Honda CRV first Honda i ever owned is still going it's like
fourth family and i sold it at 239 thousand miles miles i bought it in the americas
yeah it had 66 thousand miles on it when i got it was one owner and i got it through my good friend
mike basil basil family of cars and uh yeah he called me he goes Jenkins you got to get down here
i think i found your car because he knew what my budget was he goes pay close attention to this
one when you get here yeah we had a lot of fun him and i had a lot of fun so anyways that's the
question you we all need to ask and go how come it is this series of vehicles is plagued with
problems and this engineer went on to say if you get one that makes it to 100 000 kilometers
it's a happy day for you because he previously said their engineers are being told to design
things to break to wear out between 30 000 and 60 000 kilometers so if you get one he said
that makes it 100 000 happy day you you made it did you hear what i just said 239 000 miles
i sold my 1999 mint condition Honda CRV 2.2 liter it's still going
isn't that is that amazing is that luck which stands for laboring on under correct knowledge is
it is it luck folks i have to say i agree i agree with what i heard that engineers
engineers state yesterday is a lot of engineers were not happy about having to create stuff that
would break at certain intervals how many of us have thought that for a long time well they just
designed these things to break and you'd hear oh no that's just conspiracy theory that's misinformation
is it is it i think we're getting our answers now and the cauldron is boiling over
is and when an engineer he's he said this he said a lot of them were just going along with it to
keep their jobs to be able to collect their pensions and get the heck out because that's
not what they got into engineering for they got into engineers engineers are very prideful
on what they create they are they want to see it last so now i go back to 1967 mr green jeans
is a 1967 chevy c10 fleet side pickup truck born with a 327 v8 engine in a three speed manual
transmission on the column it came originally from georgia it was on a farm and he's part of
our lineup to go to fundraisers and stuff let the kids get in there and have their picture taken and
whatnot 1967 you can jump in that truck if you like and drive all the way 1600 miles to florida
today today if you like is that better technology 1967 or better technology 2026
where we're hearing all this stuff going on that should not be going on but it does not surprise
me at all it just doesn't so for you in today's conversation i would highly recommend the buzz
word coming from all directions from people who have a moral compass are saying stay away
from anything newer than like 2021 and i went wow it's that bad out there because i'm not in the
service space but i watch some guys and and no guys that have shops and i quite often talk to them
and find out what's going on out there well this has got this problem and that one it's a pattern
failure they're all coming in with it over and over again he says it keeps us in business
and we used to say that back when we had the shop because it wasn't for
generous motors we wouldn't have anything to work on and i mean at that time even the the
fords that were out where they seem to be hanging on pretty good at that time they seem to be quite
bulletproof some would be problematic most of the time it might be electronic issues computer issues
but for the most part they were hanging in there but we had a parking lot full of
generous motors products every day working on the same stuff over and over and over again
so keep them older vehicles rolling if the structure on it is solid that means it's not
rotted out it's not compromised underneath you got yourself a gemstone no matter what anyone
else says that engineer said that's a gemstone keep it because the aftermarket will keep that vehicle
rolling for you with remanufactured and and brand new remanufactured not remanufactured parts but
remanufactured and new parts and i've seen that for years that's how i keep older vehicles going
they always have and been able to supply aftermarket parts i don't have to go to the dealer for
parts and this is another thing that he went on to say this former GM engineer was that the
dealerships want you to get so frustrated with that new car constantly breaking down and and
and then they you don't have it for days or weeks or even months to the point where you
his terms abandon the vehicle and then buy another one from the same product line
that party couldn't understand even the host is saying why would people do that
and just you know turn around and just jump right back into the same product line
doesn't make sense to me whatsoever because people ask me how come you don't drive any
domestics i said i can't afford to the time plus the materials but the engineer went on to say
that they're charging absorbent prices for the parts for those who want to fix their domestic
vehicle over the counter to deter you from fixing it and to
push you to abandon the vehicle and just say nuts i'm just going to get another
that's what they want you to do so the plan and the strategy is his words not mine i'm not the
message i'm the messenger 30 to 60 000 kilometers is where the sweet spot they want the vehicle to
last get outside a warranty and then they don't have to pay anymore they want the vehicle to last
top drawer 60 000 k and then you got to go get a new one or a replacement where there's if you buy
pre-owned that has no warranty left on it they don't care it's your dime you're going to fix
all those things over and over and over again so the next question that came up was well what are
they what do they factor into manufacturing as far as loss you're ready for it out of all the
vehicles produced if 10 percent have issues and have to have warranty work performed they are still
doing extremely well so they factor that in about 10 percent 10 percent of the vehicles produced
off the line into your hands are going to be problematic so they factor that into you ready
the price of each vehicle the price you pay so do they lose anything no they back load it
they back load the losses on the 10 they know that are going to be problematic so in turn
who pays for that the consumer the consumer you have to become a prosumer not a consumer
and that's why i'm very good at the car game i have been for quite some time watching this
and now it's here it is folks it's unfolding all the secrets are in the cauldron and the cauldron
is boiling over and they're having a hard time pushing it back down to continue to hide
what the public is starting to pay attention to and jump ship over to something that's more
reliable and efficient so it's happening people are jumping ship and going i'm out of here
this is too much for tv they pushed it in my opinion this is my opinion you pushed it too far
now the consumers waking up you poke the bear and now you're going to reap the reward
because again how is it i could own 20 cellicas and never have a bad one
and i have a 2007 toyota fj cruiser it's all just basic maintenance that's it the wear and tear
stuff that if you own a newer vehicle long enough outside a warranty you're going to pay
to keep it going and pay and pay and pay and pay on stupid things that should not break
that don't break this is the thing that don't break in other brands
but haven't forbid they just have one little boo boo all of a sudden the mud is slinging if you
know what i'm saying the mud starts slinging but they'll fix it i saw that when i was working for
volkswagen that they right in the middle of production they would have the uh component
replaced by another vendor so they would have another vendor create the product that they want
to their standards and get them shipped out while vehicles were still on the assembly line
so they would leave the assembly line with the updated component on
i've never seen any other manufacturers do that
and that's what they did that was amazing so the vehicles coming off the line would already have
the updated component from another vendor that was failing so they weren't putting the same
garbage on that was failing going down the assembly line they were putting the updated
superseded version from another vendor creating the product to their standards
and making sure to their standards so they didn't have a reoccurrence of the same problem
at the service department vehicles coming in with in other words with a pattern failure
they would deal with it coming vehicles coming off the line already updated with the
fix for the pattern failure so that's what i'm saying so enough said on that i hope you take
something some food from this platter because it's huge this is a smorgasbord and you're going
to need to pay attention so that you become a prosumer not a consumer so if you've got an older
vehicle right now you're in and it's solid you're in position to win the game because the game is
on folks and it's hardcore and like i said i've been researching for several weeks now and the
things that i've come up with you all have access to it's all public knowledge it's not
misinformation it's not misinterpretation it's not fake news it's all out there and you can access it
but i found it very interesting when i asked specific questions of the device and i got an
answer that was 180 degrees away from what i was asking and what i was asking i'd already done my
research to verify that the question i was asking was real but the answer i got from the device
was 180 degrees opposite and i you know my head was nodding i'm going you know what i smell a rat
i really do i smell a rat absolutely so when i say do your homework it is so important and i'll
help you any way i possibly can i'm not here to support the manufacturers the dealers the sales
people i'm here to help educate you on how you can save money own and operate an older vehicle
keep the engine solid keep the transmission solid and keep that puppy running as long as you
possibly can that's how you win the car game because these certain manufacturers again words
from the engineer they want that vehicle to break down continuously after the warranty runs out
preferably so that you get to the point where you just pitch the keys in and abandon it and go get
another one and continue to pay that's exactly what he said and you will continue to pay and pay
and make that car payment and make another car payment and then get caught up in the same vortex
pitch the keys say i'm out of this thing it's continuously breaking and go get another one
of the same that is the definition of insanity no doubt about it so if you have any questions

About this episode
The conversation centers on why older vehicles can be a smarter long-term choice than many newer ones, with the speaker arguing that simpler construction, solid structure, and aftermarket support make them easier to keep on the road. He contrasts that with modern cars he says are burdened by plastic, planned obsolescence, and expensive repairs. The episode also includes practical advice about learning car basics, plus sponsor reads, a used-car warning, and a brief weather update.
In this episode 156, we cut through the noise and talk about what's really... happening in today's automotive world. even former engineers are raising eyebrows at rising costs, parts delays, and design issues that shouldn't exist.
The truth? You don't win the car game by constantly upgrading-you win by holding onto a proven vehicle and maintaining it smartly.
We break down why older vehicles continue to outperform in reliability, how aftermarket parts are often improving on factory weaknesses, and why informed consumers are saving thousands while avoiding long downtimes.
It's simple: Understand the signal, ignore the noise, and keep your ride rolling.
