Sorry for the delay in this weeks episode. But we made it and we discussed the dirt racing around our area. Duane made it to Kokomo and Butler Motor Speedway and fills us in. We also talk about the World of Outlaws in the Dakotas, High Limit in California and Lucas Oil Late Models at Port Royal. Also, the Dirt Nerds late model won both of his races this week!

All right, hello, everybody.
Welcome back to another episode of the Dirt Nerds podcast.
It's a little late this week.

A little bit Dwayne's fault.
We had stuff going on early in the week I forgot about, so I wasn't able to do it Monday or Tuesday,
so we're going to do it Wednesday, but Dwayne forgot he had something going on Wednesday,
so here we are on Thursday recording, but it works out because we're not going to record
a new episode Monday on Labor Day, so this way we're kind of halfway in between.
So it'll work out.

Yeah, his dad lives there, so he goes there once a year and always goes on those few
races and yeah, it's funny because he's like, man, you got to get there sometime
because he says, you know, the back drops of the tracks are just awesome and the late
great Kevin Huntley always told me that too when he went over there and he goes, yeah,
they don't have the best of cars and the best of races and you know, a lot of cars
but it's back drops and stuff are awesome.
Yeah, they got, I've seen Rick post pictures when he comes back and they may have like
four or six sprint cars and yeah, they're not, you know, pop in high end stuff
and the tracks are like borderline cinder.
They're not really dirt because you know, the landscape of Alaska is just a little different
than we're used to.
So.
Right.
But hey, it's a reason to go racing way up there up north.
Why not?
Right?
Oh yeah.
I'm sure they use a lot of propane in Alaska just saying.
Yeah, no kidding.

So they're planning on going to whistle stop Sunday for the big races, Eldora.
And there's at least 12 new ones right now going.

That's right.

So some racing was head in our area.
Dwayne was busy attending races.
I was not able to make it out to any surprise there shot.
I knew shot.
I knew you'd have some words.
Yeah.
Dwayne, what was your weekend like in the racing world?
Well, Thursday, went to Kokomo for the first night of Smackdown and, yep, seen our
buddy C Park, seen Bill from Sprint Car Hall of Fame, seen quite a few people.
Seeing Dustin Smith and, oh, I don't know, seen quite a few people walking around
there and, yeah, 54 cars.
I was surprised they had that many.
I think it's the highest car count they've ever had for Smackdown and Man What a Race.
First night Kokomo did not disappoint and Briggs Deanner took the win on Thursday night
with a great battle and, yeah, it was a good race and that's just getting bigger and
bigger and bigger.
So I got over there on Thursday and then Friday went up to Michigan, been up 996
for a while and tracks different even, you know, they've changed it a couple of times
and it's even different, a little different than the last time I was up there a couple
of years ago.
If I had that big late mile race and ended up paying $6,000 to win like a $37,000
purse.
And I mean, I don't want to say it's disappointed car count because they had a 26 or 28,
but, you know, they had a few, you know, Stumblers there and Spangler and Thorough B and Chad
Finley, which ends up winning it and Chase Buda, you know, a few guys like that.
But, you know, you know, and I've talked about this for and I get a lot of people
like, are you starting late mile series?
You started late mile series Friday night was probably an example why I don't because
you're paying $6,000 to win and $500 to start and all these people that complain about an
old money in late mile racing, not one of them was there.
Yep.
Okay, they couldn't travel that far, you know, I mean, that's like, man, that was
hell of money, you know, it was good money and it wasn't just $6,000 to win.
I mean, it was, it was like a $37,000 purse for late mile away main, which was more,
I think, than the all star purse and what's the all stars was up there as well.
They had 26 of them and one track fault, just a very, one of those shows that he
races went well and they mains were disasters.
Several yellow flags, several couple red flags and a lot of y'all.
I mean, the track crew did take forever to clean up a few messes.
I say forever the one I swear that's going to have to call in a record
from somewhere else is a late mile loss of tire and a heat race.
And it literally took, I know I'm not shitting you.
It was at least 25, 30 minutes to get this guy because he went over the bank and
turned three, which, you know, ain't that far.
He went out on the old track and I don't know what the issue was, but I
don't know if they had a sandwich break or a beer break over there or what,
but it was a good 25, 30 minutes to get it all.
He didn't lose a tire.
One like he flipped one like he, you know, tore the suspension off.
One was like, like, I'm not sure what was going on there.
But other than that, it was just a lot of spin outs.
So I think they started with 24 late miles and I think eight finished sprint
cars. Let's see.
There's a fuel stop, 11 laps into it.
So if that tells you anything, so, but one day was racing on the track
and not spinning or under caution, the all sorry, I mean, it was pretty good.
The Parker Price Miller took the win there.
A couple of different leaders in that one, one leader in late models,
Chad Finlay broke track record and started on the pole.
And I mean, Stemler looked like he was going to give him a run,
but he broke right away. Thoroughly broke.
Let's see who else broke.
But just about everybody but Finlay broke.
Chase Budo was actually running down and actually looked like in the last few laps
days in traffic and Chase was just, I mean, it looked like he was going to pass
and he was putting a move on him and the yellow came out with one to go.
So I think he would have passed Finlay on the last lap, but maybe not.
It was one of those, you wait all race for it to get competitive
and it's competitive than yellow comes out.
Yeah, no kidding.
But yeah, it wasn't, I mean, I'll say it was a bad show because it wasn't,
you know, terrible, but they means were just one of those long drug out,
long drug out deals and, you know, but you'll have that some nights.
And then for Saturday went up to stayed overnight up there at I-96.
So we went to the casino, you know, for lunch and then had to try some luck
at the machines and the roulette table and stuff and roulette was terrible.
But I got ready to leave like, oh, I'll try a slot machine for a second.
And that made that paid for everything that I lost and the rest of the trip.
So it wasn't bad.
Yeah, yeah.
Melissa came out a little bit ahead too.
So, you know, it wasn't a bad, bad day at all.
So we went up to the Chuck Wilson Memorial race.
I've always been close friends with the Wilson's for years and, you know,
Chuck's later years of racing was always helped him out too with Chad,
because when he was traveling the boss, we'd always traveled together.
So, you know, a Memorial race for Chuck and not bad, 24 or 410s,
which for ballers pretty good.
You know, I mean, they average 15 to 20 regular show,
but I had a few guys from our area.
Jack Nichols went there.
Stuart Brubaker, Bryce Lucius was up there.
Avain Gurley, which he's tracked champ up there from last year,
but he's been hit and miss up there this year.
But a good race.
Bryce Lucius and Keith Schaeffler had a pretty good battle.
And Thomas Schindlerley was right there.
Game McCarron and Brubaker is running top five.
McCarron got a flyer and over.
I forget who that ended up running over and got taken out.
I forget who the heck it was.
Took him out.
It might have been Jack Nichols.
Can't remember.
But anyways, pretty good race with Bryce Lucius taking the $3131 win up there.
So a pretty good deal.
Then, oh, Manix, what is it, Furquen, Furquen or whatever, modified win.
Yeah.
Took the modified win, which the world's greatest modified driver was up there
and Todd Sherman and some of those guys.
So Max and, you know, Manix took the win.
So that was a pretty good race too.
So, but yeah, it was a decent show up to Butler.
He said it took a little longer.
I was going to go to Middle Street.
Yeah, the Modifieds did.
Yeah.
Modifieds, they had 30, had 102 cars in the pit.
So between the four divisions, they had like 35 or 37 compacts,
which they had two B mains for the compacts.
So it's because for the Wilson Memorial, it's not only four tons that get jacked up first.
The Modifieds Hornets and three socks do too.
And those Hornets were racing for more money than they raced for all year.
And oh, you can tell it, there was some full kind.
We even flipped one down the front stretch.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Then, yeah, they, but they was funny.
They put on a pretty good show that was wild.
But yeah.
So there's a lot of cars and, you know, they didn't really dink around or anything.
Just one of those nights, or the Mod A, I mean, everything once moved to the Mod A,
there's a lot of spin-offs in the Mod A.
But once they got it rolling, it was like the first five laps took 25 minutes to get in.
But once they got to rolling, they clicked them right off.
So yeah, a good show up there, decent show.
Those old-timers night up there too.
So I got to see guys like Hank Lauer that used to race and actually Doug Zimmerman
that raced up in that area a lot was
driving one of the Lodging cars.
And so, well, that was pretty cool too.
But then, then was going to head to Bill's stream on Sunday for the Fast and Boss show.
And Shelby and Asher came over and we went to my mom's and just
decided to have a family night instead.
Because I was looking at the car council and that.
I'm like, yeah, I ain't going to rush over there and I'll take a night off.
We just planned on going over there.
But it ended up not.
So we got three of the four races I was planning.
And yeah, going busy weekend.
But yeah, Milestream Cap Henry ended up getting the win.
And the Wing Fast, I believe it was the Fast Series race.
And then Ricky Lewis won the non-Wing.
But Saturday, also in our area, Wainsfield raced the All Star Circuit of Champions.
And who won that one?
PPM.
That's right.
Parker Price Miller.
Yeah.
Because he swept the All Star weekend.
That's right.
Because he won Friday night as well.
And that was Caps.
That was Caps.
I think 13th win because Cap won Friday night at Attica.
Yes.
Because it's 13th win of the season.
Which I don't know.
I haven't looked.
Which I don't know why I usually look at that stuff.
But supposedly that's tied for the top and the top with, I think, gravel.
Nice.
Gravel, Mackery, I think.
I think all three of them are up top.
I think that's 13 wins is the top.
I believe.
Somebody said.
PPM won Friday night at I-96 as well.
Yep.
And then Chad Finley.
You may have said that Chad Finley won in the late models up there.
Dwayne said he started up front and stayed up front the whole time.
He had Butler, Attica.
Yeah, Cap Henry won the Sprint cars there.
Our buddy Devin Shields actually got himself the win there.
Friday night, first time of the year.
He's been trying like hell.
And been close.
Been close and still working on a new car and stuff.
But it all came together on Friday night.
Got himself the win.
Then he went over to Oakshade Saturday night and got the win.
And also the track championship.
Which he wasn't even planning on running for.
Circumstances just happened.
A couple of weekends, he was going to skip.
They actually rained out.
So ended up with only a few races left.
And it was kind of like, well, why not cap it off?
And try to win some extra money on the year.
So congrats to our buddy Devin on getting the win,
sweeping the weekend for that team.
Good.
You tell you didn't go.
Yeah, that's right.
Other stuff.
Well, you know why he started winning?
Because his son, Brayden, he's been running good.
He found out that he could drive.
And he's going to whip the old man.
That's what it was.
Devin had to stop his game up.
Well, I did say last time, last weekend,
or whatever, two weeks ago, he started on the pole
and went backwards.
And I said, make sure you tell him.
So Devin, make sure you remind him.
When you start up front, you're not
supposed to have to want to pass cars.
You're just supposed to stay out there.
Usually he's got to start further back and try to pass cars.
So I'm guessing it's just, you know, just first time
newbie jitters is all it was, right?
You're right.
All right.
I'll get an angry text on that one.
I have a feeling.
Well, and you don't sell t-shirts by starting
on the pole and win.
And if you start 10 to win, you sell t-shirt.
Oh, OK.
That's what it is.
Gotcha.
You want style points.
Anybody can start on the pole and win.
Not everybody can start 10 to win.
That's true, I guess.
You mentioned Kokomo Smackdown.
That was kind of the biggest one going on in our area, which,
you know, it's hit or miss with some people paying attention to it.
But like you said, it's been getting bigger every year.
The payouts are bigger.
It looked like there was a hell of a fan attendance as well,
which it's a non-linked spring car racing in Indiana.
Yeah, Thursday night was a huge crowd compared to what
Thursday night usually has been there.
And then I saw some highlights from Saturday,
who won or Friday?
Friday KTJ won, which was another pretty good one.
I mean, all three races was great.
I mean, Thursday and Saturday were bangers big time.
And then I don't know how much you've seen of Saturday's highlights,
but Briggs Daner has found the fast way around Kokomo.
Because he won on Thursday, won the USAC Sprint Week show there.
And then looked like he had a Smackdown.
His first Smackdown in the box until the middle one and two
after he took the white flag, the famous Kokomo cushion bidding.
But Justin Grant was passing him, if you've seen it.
Justin didn't hit him.
Wasn't close, but he was putting the move on him.
So kind of like you were just saying about upfront jitters or what,
I mean, there's going to be Briggs' biggest win.
Because I mean, Briggs won a lot, but a lot of his Pennsylvania wins
are in 600s or speedsters or something where you're winning.
You know, $600,000, $1,500, he's won a few Sprint car races.
But this was 30K and he already had 20-some K in his pocket from leading.
It was $500 a lap and yeah, I just hit the turn wrong
and the cushion was a Kokomo style cushion and just sucked him up.
Yeah, I saw the, it was like the last four or five laps
that was a shootout between those two.
And yeah, I think everyone was rooting for Daner
and it was going to be an awesome story.
And yeah, I mean, he just hit the curb and snapped the car sideways
and, you know, tumbled over slowly.
But yeah, definitely sucked for him to go out that way.
I mean, at least you could say he went down swing in and, you know,
tried to try, you know, didn't leave anything on the table.
But yeah, it's definitely a bummer for him.
And then Grant winning with a broken foot was debating
even race on the weekend.
Takes home 30K grand.
Yeah, and I don't know if you've seen it,
but you know, they made a special plate, a metal plate,
then they had two angle rods, you know,
they supported on the sides and two angle rods.
Then they hose clamped it to his leg with hose clamps to run the brake.
And you know, I've been critical of Grant.
And you know, I'm, everybody knows I'm not the biggest
address to Grant fan, but you have to give him props.
I don't care.
That's old school mentality.
And that just shows you how bad he wants it.
And I think he gained, you know, he'd been losing fans
for a little while, but I think he gained a lot of them
in a ton of respect the other night because, you know,
they've showed that picture before they mean,
you know, we've tightened up the hose clamps and that.
It's like, dude, that's, that's Jack, you know,
Poncho Carter type of shit right there that, you know,
back in the old days, like, Oh, something's broke.
I was okay.
Well, we'll figure out a way to race still.
So huge props to him for sure.
Yeah.
The other one I saw was the king of the hill races.
And I think it was Cummins and CJ Leary.
Yeah, it's just like, yeah, CJ got a lot of booze.
Yeah.
He just, I mean, you know, it's the hard racing two cars.
You don't hit the throttle till the, till the flag stand.
And they get around turns one to and then make contact.
And Kyle Cummins left front ends up bent sideways.
So he had to bow out early.
Yeah, no, it's a pro Cummins fan.
Pro Cummins, Kyle, for sure there.
But yeah.
And I seen that and I, you know, I heard, I heard,
I was a bummer.
I heard they're like, Oh, I was Cummins.
This is our CJ just stuff Cummins in the wall, you know,
and I seen it and I, I don't know.
I mean, anytime, if you ever been to Kokomo and seen a race there,
it's like turned like a wall or something.
Maybe it is closer or something because you see that a lot there.
And you see guys even running on the high side of turn two,
that just gets sucked into the wall at times, you know.
And I, so I, I don't know.
I don't think it was that bad.
I mean, I, I mean, obviously CJ probably knew he was going to try swimming on the outside,
but I mean, it could have been a lot worse.
I mean, I, I don't think he like, okay, I'm like crashing for the king of the hill.
Cause they both started on the front row.
So, you know, you're just talking inside, outside.
And I don't think, you know, he was, well, of course, I think he got like 418 bucks,
but still I don't see CJ purposely trying to crashing for,
start on the pole and for 400 bucks.
Yeah, I didn't, I didn't think it was anything intentional by any means.
Just hard racing at Kokomo.
Like you said that wall off the, off a turn two,
down the back stretch seems to curve in or something more.
It seems like it creeps up on guys a lot quicker than anticipated.
Yeah. It bites people all the time.
That, that area bites people all the time and they both knew it.
And I think, you know, and I think Cummins, I ain't Cummins,
he's a very professional and he don't, you know, and he basically said to,
he's like, I knew he is coming up and I could have, you know,
could have backed off a little bit and didn't type thing, you know?
So just, just one of those deals.
All right. So other things going on,
the word of outlaw sprint cars were in action.
They raced Tuesday night on the 19th at Mississippi Thunder Speedway,
where David Gravel got the win.
Friday night, River City Speedway, where Buddy Kofoid got himself the win.
That was kind of a, you know, I guess the week started.
Well, Donny Shot's news was kind of the big thing,
sticking with Lunstra through this deal,
but he gained five spots on Friday night,
which is kind of his home track to finish eighth from 15th.
Saturday, they went over to Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo,
another one of those stomping ground tracks for Donny,
where Carson Macedo got himself the win.
Donny, again, started seventh, finished seventh,
so pretty good runs in borrowed equipment for the old fellow, we'll say.
Yeah, another thing for Shot's racing is he's,
Nises made their word of outlaw debut on Friday night.
Neither one made the A, but Saturday, they both put it in the A-Made.
Yeah, I saw that.
And then the other thing, Sheldon Hottenshield led 23 of the 30 laps,
with Carson Macedo leading the last two.
So that was a bit of a...
Yeah, they had a pretty damn big, good battle, yeah.
Yeah.
That was a good battle, though.
I've seen the highlights.
That was a pretty good battle, the last handful laps.
Yeah, so Gravel now 172 over Buddy,
who is in second, Carson Macedo in third, he's 228 behind.
So, yeah, way to go, Buddy, making some ground up,
probably a quiet second place, you know,
high points finish for him this year.
We're just with everything going on in the sprint car realm,
and Gravel being so dominant.

we remember they started off really bad this season, you know.
They struggled to get things rolling,
but man, they found something about a quarter of a way
through the season, and it's been real good.
The high limits were also in action.
They were out west, racing Silver Dollar Speedway
for three nights, the Gold Cup Race of Champions.
Now, they're one of their main big time races on the year.
Corey Day took the win, starting from eight
on Thursday night, Brad Sweet's second.
Moving over to Friday, who won Friday?
Let's look here, Justin Sanders, that's right, got the win.
In the Wrightsville 87 car, or Ridge Sun Racing, 87, we'll say.
And then Saturday to the finale,
I didn't see many highlights or anything.
I'd say the only thing I saw was low light,
looked like the track rubbered up pretty significantly.
Yeah, we looked like it did a couple of nights.
Yeah, Corey Day got $100,000 and $100,071, so pretty big payday for him.
There's no way a quarter of a mile track in California
should take rubber for $100,000 to win the race.
Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty, again, I didn't see it.
It's like, well, the temperatures was high in that.
It's like, yeah, but usually, I mean, I remember when Chico
used to get watered really, really well and some of that.
It seems like the last few years, that places took rubber,
which, yeah, $100,000 in race, that's not good.
Yeah. I think they're, well, they got Skagit Nationals this weekend,
so another big pay in racing.
Yeah, $126,000.
Yeah. Lucas Oil late models were at Port Royal for the weekend.
Two races, one winner, Ricky Thornton Jr.
Wasn't without a little controversy, we'll say.
I mean, little controversy slash hard racing,
but the final laps, well, he took the lead on lap 46
from Chris Madden, maybe a little bit of an aggressive move,
but hey, for $50,000, it's kind of hard to make aggressive moves.
Sounds like all was good after the race.
There was no one fighting or anything,
which Madden's not that kind of guy, but yeah.
And what did he get into it?
Ricky Thornton got what federate recorder,
I think to Jonathan Davenport on Friday night, so.
Yeah. Yep, I believe so.
Making some aggressive moves, but that's the way racing goes sometimes, I guess, so.
Yeah, for sure.
But yeah, Ricky actually took home $58,000.
They must have had a little lap sled or something.
Probably.
Something like that, so.
Well, speaking of that, we haven't had a show since.
Aggressive moves that 90 C K Dillard suspended for the rest of the season with Lucas soil for his
aggressive move, which I don't agree with him being suspended for six months or whatever on that.
I mean, I just don't.
I mean, as we said before, like you said, that's part of the sport nowadays.
Aggressive moves that and Alberson, even though he didn't get into him,
it was an aggressive move that we said anybody throws that move knows he's going to slow down.
And the car behind you is either going to have to let up or hit you and Dillard decided to hit him.
So if you're going to suspend Dillard for six months, you should spend Alberson to
for throwing the move.
You know, I mean, it's not that I think Alberson should be suspended by any means,
but it's like, you know, that's one of those moves
where you throw it, you better be getting ready to get hit if the guy don't back off.
And you know, yes, 95% of the time the guy backs off, but there's a chance he's not going to.
And he didn't.
And I mean, I don't know.
I thought it was kind of a shitty call that they suspended him for six months.
I think he would have been fine had he not said he did it on purpose.
Right.
I think that's where the that's I think if he wouldn't have said anything about,
you know, that side of it, he probably would have been okay.
But once you once you kind of say that, you kind of, you know,
put yourself in a position to for that to happen, I guess.
But shit, there's a lot of guys that said that, that, you know,
I mean, tell Turbo says that every other week.
And how many Davenport, you know, I don't know where people has talked about it.
I just, I don't know.
I just think it was, I think it was pretty stiff for no more than what it was.
Yeah.
And I mean, it's, it's also probably another thing where they evaluate like,
he doesn't race with us regularly.
He's probably not going to race many other races the rest of the year anyway.
So at that point, it's probably like, well, if we suspend them, we, you know,
we look like we more or less, it's more for optics, right?
Like the guy's probably not racing with you.
So what's the matter?
But at least you can say, well, we did something.
So right, wrong or different.
I don't know.
But yeah, I guess that's the way it is for now.
But BAP's motor speedway race last night, actually, wasn't it?

They rained it out and moved it to Wednesday as a rain out, I think, from Saturday.

I guess anything race-result-wise to, yeah, I don't know if you saw it, Duane,
but another one that, more local, Wayne County's late model accident Saturday night
was a pretty nice one.
If you haven't seen video of that, it's pretty gnarly.
Yes, the Zanesville Dozer was part of it.

Yeah, Kyle Moore and Todd Brennan getting together on the front stretch.
And Todd Brennan got into somebody.
But Bren ended up more or less turning right into the wall behind
Moore after they kind of got away from each other.
And they were running one and two.
And cars coming down the straightaway had nowhere to go.
And unfortunately, JR Gentry, I think he's at a Worcester, Ohio, races up in Attica a lot with us,
got the worst of it, went flying, flipping through the air.
Like, it was like a newer car, even, or maybe even brand new.
So he ended up with the shortest end of the stick,
you know, obviously making heavy impact with other cars.
So those other cars didn't get off easy by any means.
But yeah, Kyle Moore and Todd Brennan have had some issues otherwise this year.
So there's a little bit of a little bit of a jab going back and forth.
Or maybe it's only one side of a Kyle Moore side of things is all I've really seen.
So yeah, it's unfortunate end to the night for a lot of guys and a lot of wrecked stuff,
unfortunately, and luckily, JR is okay.
So that was a good thing.

So it'll be good cars in both places it sounds like.

Labor Day hootenanny and still paying out some big bucks.

And El Dora is putting 48 cars.
It says it sounds like doing split field.
If they hopefully they get enough to do it because it says
it's going to be two A mains and 48 drivers.
So it's like to me it's going to be the split field where
yeah, group A and group B and heats and a main for both.
So yeah, I've seen RTJ and turbo and some of them will be at El Dora.
And I'm sure a lot of other because it's only tuned up before the World 100.

I know the last few years that race it's kind of been shitty for the late
model guys because it ends up freaking too watered down and too heavy.
And tracks definitely not World 100 conditions at that point.
But we'll see.
It was 48, hopefully a bunch of late models and obviously the modified stock cars
hopefully can widen the track out enough for it to be a true test for everyone.
But yeah, that'll be a good show to get to especially on Sunday.
And not a whole lot racing against it.

Other news, sad news that you probably saw Dwayne but Forest Lucas,
the Lucas Oil founder and you know, main guy behind the
Lucas Oil dirt late model series.

Forest Lucas passed away at 83 years old.
Yep.
There's done a ton, an absolute ton for racing.
Late models and spring call.
Even more than that.
Late miles, spring car, drag racing, off road racing.
I mean, has Lucas Oil Speedway.
Yeah.
Lucas Oil Speedway, you know,
look soil late models big into Lucas Oil Stadium, which that
fear actually should happen because that naming rights was through 26.
So, you know, a guy that I've met.
Handful times and Ben in his suite with him in it at times.
So, very awesome guy.
You know, very big figure and motor sports on that end that
you know, will definitely miss for sure.
Yeah.
It can't be under overstated enough how much he's done
like Dwayne said, not for just our circle racing.
You know, motocross, off road, drag boat racing.
Yeah.
You know, just anything that had wheels that would go fast.
That seemed like Lucas Oil was willing to support.
So, oh, 100%.
You know, I know a lot of that's changed with Morgan taking over
and, you know, things pro pro polling league.
That was another one that was big for a long time
for tractor poles and stuff.
So, well, they started Mav TV.
Yep. Yep.
And Lucas Oil TV and now obviously they're partnered with Flow.
So, a lot of things going on with the Lucas name on it for sure.
Yeah.
And Morgan's caught a lot back when he took over for force.
But yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens.
And yeah, definitely a guy that's helped me.
And as a guy that you meet, if you didn't know who he was,
you would have no clue that he was a multi-million
or billionaire compared to you.
Because he'd dress like you, talk, and he'd talk.
Well, one time I was in the Lucas Oil suite for football game
Steelers and Colts on Thanksgiving Day.
And we're sitting there and we kind of felt bad
because we was about the only one that wasn't his family.
They said I was having a Thanksgiving dinner and that.
But we was in there and he'd come over and talk to us.
And yeah, well, thanks for tickets.
I said, well, I really want to thank you about all the stuff
you do for racing at home.
I was like, I opened up a new chapter.
He stood there and talked for, heck,
we missed a good quarter of the football game
because he said, are you going to race this?
Do I?
Yeah, I don't think you know what you're talking to.
They're a forest.
But yeah, he was this great guy.
Yeah.
Sad news.
Fortunately, time comes for everyone.
But obviously, his legacy lives on.
So we'll hope to keep it alive here for years to come.

Other news in the Ohio Sprint car racing scene.
A new series has been announced.
I know there was a little bit of inkling about it
we had heard, but didn't know what it really meant
or how it was going to go.
But the Gladiator Sprint Tour is now formed.
Going to be based for Southern Ohio, Northeast Kentucky,
and Western West Virginia.
Brought to you by the same folks
at Fast in the Boss series.
So Aaron Fry running this series.
There is one series down in Southern Ohio
that races already in that same area.
Sounds like it's a little bit of a piss and match
between the two.
Oh, yeah.
It's definitely aimed to take that one out of business.
And anybody that's dealt with that series
knows that's been controversy.
There's been, you know, the series guy
sends threatening letters, which I've got a few myself.
He likes to threaten people.
He's one of those behind the closed doors,
tough guys type things, you know,
and he likes to stir the show.
I mean, he got fired from the All Stars
for throwing rocks of cars as an official
from the infield one night.
So he's done a lot of shady shit at race tracks.
And I think this is the try to get him out of that area.
I mean, I mean, the handwriting is on the wall.
That's what it's for.
I mean, paying more money
and targeting the tracks that they're going to be at.
So be interested to see what happens
because he definitely ain't going to go away
without a fight, I'm sure.
So it could be interesting.
Maybe physically not a fight.

Yeah.
So it sounds like it's mostly going to happen,
you know, around four tracks this new series,
like with Atomic and maybe another Ohio track,
couple Kentucky tracks probably to start.
So it's, you know, it's going to start out small,
pays a little more than the OVSCA,
which is the other series.
But I did see someone post that the first race
is at Atomic Speedway in September 13th.
And I saw a Sprintcar driver comment
that the purse they're paying is less than
the standard Atomic purse.
So I don't know how it's going to work out.
Well, Atomic took Sprintcars off their thing now
because they wasn't getting any.
And so yeah, it's smaller than the Atomic purse,
which I think Charlie's in on this deal a little bit too.
So I don't know.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So the purse is getting kind of Atomic to run these guys,
but it sounds like the weaker, you know, it says,
it sounds like a lot of Sprintcar races
aren't on the Atomic schedule anymore.
So I don't know.
It'll be interesting to see what happens.

The other bit of news I had,
one of them was Dillard suspended for six months,
but we talked about that already.
The other is, did you see West Virginia Water Speedway
has put a date out there to come back from the dead?
Yeah.
And it's shrugged down to three eighths now.
Yes, October 11th.
I believe West Virginia Water Speedway comes back
and they reconfigured it to be a smaller track inside
the ginormous outside track.
I haven't seen much more detail on, you know,
if you go to their Facebook page,
they have some updates and things going on.
But I know the way the lights and stuff were before,
it'd be interesting to see if they reconfigured
all their lights and stuff.
I would imagine they had to.
But yeah, it comes back under a different look,
but the same nice facility, I believe,
that it's kind of always been.
Yeah, and the people that have that just bought
another race track, too.
Yeah, they bought Elkins, it sounds like.
Which they're planning on bringing it back
and 201s back and there's three or four tracks
coming back the way it looks in that region.
And then Kentucky area, West Virginia, Kentucky area.
So it'll be interesting.
Yeah, looking at West Virginia Motor Speedway's Facebook page,
they have the lights on the front stretch kind of still,
which I didn't care for because they face the crowd.
They're lit on the inside, which is kind of weird.
But the lights on the back stretch
still seem to be in place.
So I wonder what they're going to do for lighting
down the back stretch, maybe some temp lights or something.
Lots more tracks, a lot easier to do than the old one.
But yeah, it looks racy.
They had some cars on it testing it out.
So hey, we'll see what happens, I guess.

Track I've never been to yet.
And so I'm going to get to the big one,
but maybe I can get to the small one sometime.

Attica's got a big weekend slated.

I think it's five for both tomorrow than Saturday,
I think the Saturday's 7,500 for the Sprint cars
and then the 305s.

The Baltas Classic on Sunday, like Dwayne said,
dual features for 48 cars to have a shot to make a feature.
And then Butler actually has the Iron Man series up there
on Saturday.
So a lot of racing going on in the area.

for 10 grand on Sunday.

And a lot of other stuff.
A lot of, still a ton of races everywhere.

And then the Granddaddy of them all comes into town.
The World 100 down at Eldora Speedway.

What's some guesses you got here?
Well, you know, late models are a little more standard
than the Sprint cars.
So you know, I love Knoxville and the King's Royal this year
because we had kind of independent guys winning
that don't follow any series that kind of under,
I'd love to see that happen at Eldora for late models.
Is it going to happen?
I don't think so.
I'd love to see it happen.
Like a Jason Jamison or, hey, do you think Kid Rocket
will be there?
I mean, I don't know.
Yeah, he could, yeah, how, what kind of return to that
because you know, I think it's probably going to be
a little rusty, but Eldora sometimes is an equalizer
for that.
But I don't know, I hate to keep beating the same horse,
but we obviously know it's going to be between Pearson,
Davenport, more than likely.
And, you know, Moran could be in there,
and Nioh could be in there.
RTJ, he's getting better at Eldora, you know?
I mean, he's, but Eldora just is the one that you
expect him to be.
I mean, can he win there 100%, but he's, you know,
I wouldn't say he's your top three that he's going to,
you know, on your list, but I think it's probably
going to be pretty standard.
I think, I think it'll definitely be between Davenport
and Pierce, but it'd be awesome if you could get
somebody in there to win, you know, like Kings Royale
and Knoxville was some of these guys that may not
file, you know, anybody or, you know, or a, I don't want to
say smaller team, because we all know there's
about the top 70, 80, eight mile teams.
They're all pretty equal or, you know, pretty tough,
but, but like Garrett Alberson or Chris Madden,
I'm not, but Madden's been there, but, you know,
get a, you know, somebody in there, you know,
kind of one of those guys that you wouldn't expect,
you know. Yeah. I'm interested to see.
I don't know if you saw, but I haven't read the article,
but the rocket, the house car is a little different
if you hadn't heard. Oh, really?
Yeah. Supposedly a few weeks ago, the rocket came
out with the new car. Now, the, I guess, the
push pull on the thing is a copy of a longhorn, right?
So there's been a lot of, a lot of back and forth on that,
I guess, but yeah, I haven't heard, I just saw it
in a blip the other day and I was like, oh, I hadn't seen
that one. So kind of have a hard time finding it on dirt
on dirt, but supposedly Richards, you know, said, no,
it's not a copy and, you know, kind of,
it will say angry about it maybe. I don't know.
Doesn't like that notion, which understandably so, but
yeah, it sounds like there's a new initiative going on
with the rocket team to improve their stuff. So
Brandon Shepard's had better luck recently and better
finishes recently with the win and, you know,
winner two and some top four, top five finishes
regularly. So it'll be an interesting thing to see
if that changes their El Dora outcome.
Well, if kid Rockets, probably the new one then too.
Yeah, probably. It's, yeah, it'll be a new thing to keep an eye on,
I guess. And yeah, I don't know. It'll be a wild one if
they have some luck with that. And then I'm going to be
lined up to be buying some fricking, some rockets again.
So yeah. And I'm glad kid Rockets back. Hopefully he'll do good.
Yeah, it'll be interesting. Maybe, maybe Jenna's brother
will give us funny because the other night I got a message
from one of our listeners that runs a late mile series
in the south. I get a message pops up being, hey, Jenna's
brother just won 12k with a stop here.
So I wonder if he knows we call him Jenna's brother.
That's awesome. But he's a guy that, I mean, in all seriousness,
he's ran good as El Dora. I mean, that would be an under shot or,
you know, an underdog that could possibly do it or, you know, Zach
don't, how many times has he been on the verge of a good run to
El Dora and something happens? I mean, it'd be cool to see
somebody or even Kyle Bronson, you know, he look, he's
kind of had a shitty year and he's always fast as El Dora
if he can keep the right fender out of the wall.
Yeah.
You know, it'd be cool to see somebody like that that's, you
know, always been there and always been tough and pop off a
win like that. Yeah, it's about the year for it. I mean, you
know, every once in a while, the war 100 used to produce
a winner like that and I haven't done that for a while.
Yeah, it's going to be wild because it's hard to pick
against, you know, the three Pierce Davenport and, you know,
Thornton. It's just like you said, it's late models just seem
to have a thing going where it's, it's hard to, hard to pick
against the old reliable guys, but El Dora can be a different
animal for a lot of people. Yep. Well, yeah, because McCready's
always tough there. McDowell's always tough. O'Neill's
always tough. Moran's always tough. You know, so El
Dora widens it a little bit, but then, you know, you get some
wild factors in there. Josh Rice, if he got the right deal,
you know, Kyle Bronson, you know, I mean, you know, Jameson
runs good down there, then you just never know. I mean, you
get somebody who gets on El Dora. Yeah, I mean, what about
Brandon Overton? I mean, he was dominant El Dora for a
lot of couple of years and he's just, I mean, I don't
know what's off there, but he's just not winning like
he used to, but he's another guy that could change his
season around to see you got back to some El Dora ways that
he had a few years ago. Yeah. Yeah, it's, it's hard to, hard
to pick against old Faithful's, but it's also not
surprising when you see someone come through and, and get a
big one there, but we'll see what happens. Yeah. It's
always a hell of a time where 100's undefeated with
being, being an awesome event. So, yeah, I'm, I plan on
being there Friday and Saturday at least. So, I'm
looking forward to it and yeah. Well, you're gonna get to
three races in just over a week. That's right, man. I'm, I'm
exceeding expectations. Who are you? I don't know. Crazy.

kind of come around, I try to get tickets and
their tour started, you know, whatever a week or
two ago and um, yeah, I bought these tickets a
long time ago and um, I knew it was the same
night. I didn't know they were doing dual feature
format but um, obviously they don't come through,
you know, maybe once a year if you're lucky
and it's a Sunday night where we, you know,
Labor Day so we don't have to take work off
the next day or anything. So, it worked out uh,
worked out a little too nice to try and go
hit that up. So, we're going to be uh, down in
Indianapolis Sunday at a concert. Yeah, because
originally I think about Bedford tomorrow
night and Lincoln and that but that got
changed. So, uh, but we'll be at Attica
tomorrow night and then I don't know, but
speaking of tickets, I don't know if you've
seen, did you see that? Uh, you know, we
got Dome coming up in December. Did you
see Coles County, which is a track that uh,
Wilson, I really loved last year when we
went to the Illinois Midget Week deals,
doing that uh, invite deal on a Sunday
night, the last Sunday in September for
Road to the Dome. I did not. Well, it is,
it's a little cold. You know, that's where
Pearson, a few guys, practiced last year
for the Dome and uh, so they're doing,
it's like a $45,000 purse for the late
models and then they're doing modified
this, all invite like the Dome and
so the RTJ and Turbo and uh, a lot of
them's committed already. Well, tickets
went on sale. It's only uh, eight rows
high, the grandstand, so they're planning
on selling out within the first few
minutes. Well, uh, we got our tickets, so
we're gonna be going down to Coles
County on a Sunday night in September,
last Sunday in September and uh,
watching this little invite deal to the
Dome, so. Very cool. Um, it should be
interesting because it's a, I don't
know if it's as big as the Dome to
be honest. Yeah, it says uh,
confirmed invites Chris Ferguson, Tyler
Irb, Gordy Gundecker, Ricky Thornton
Jr., Tyler Carpenter, Jason Feger, Bob
Gardner, Drake Trautman, Trevor Gundecker,
SuperShep, Brian Shirley, Ethan Dodson,
Tommy Shepherd, Blaise Burwell, so those
are confirmed so far. Yeah, it says
they didn't let them all out, so they're
trying to, so since it didn't sell
out, we'll get some more and uh,
yeah and it's funny is uh, I've seen
people's giving them shit for
inviting Bob Gardner like, well, he
can't race and suppose he can't race
the Dome either, like this ain't the Dome.
And we invited him, so. Yeah, um, yeah,
45,000 purse, 10,000 to win, 750 to
start, so. Yeah.

tickets. Oh, nice. Don't fall off. The whole
seven or eight row of psi. We're good.
So hopefully, hopefully it'll be wide enough
that they can run a couple wide. Oh yeah,
that is a tiny little thing, isn't it?
Yeah, I don't think it's as tiny or as
big as the Dome, but we'll find out.

race, the Illinois Midget Week race
we went to is the best midget race
I've seen in a while, but
anywhere in that region, so hopefully
the light model race will be a
decent one. I mean, it's got to
be decent because there ain't
anywhere to go, so. Yeah, it could be
decent or a spin cycle, you never know.
Yeah. All right, well, I got nothing

my fantasy football draft happening
in 20 minutes, so it works out perfect.

know better than that.
Pick your Browns players. Just because I'm a
Browns fan doesn't mean I'm
unrealistic. Okay, I understand the
reality of being a Browns fan.
