They’re talking about feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. It’s just the intro before they switch back to truck talk.
Topic
Ford Has HUGE Plans For The Next F-150, Super Duty, And Other Trucks!
The hosts are talking about what Ford wants to do with its next trucks. It’s basically a preview of what changes might be coming to the lineup.
Concept
press releases
Press releases are official statements companies send out to announce news. The hosts are basically saying Ford’s announcement stands out even though companies publish a lot of updates all the time.
Concept
from the road
“From the Road” appears to be Ford’s branded news/communications channel rather than a traditional media outlet. The hosts use it to explain where the quote about the truck plan came from.
“Portfolio renewal” just means Ford is planning big changes across many of its vehicles. Instead of minor tweaks, they’re aiming to bring out mostly new trucks over the next few years.
“By volume” means they’re talking about the vehicles that sell the most. So it’s not just a few niche models getting updated—Ford is aiming to refresh the trucks that make up most of their sales.
A universal EV platform is like a shared “building plan” for electric vehicles. Instead of designing every EV from scratch, automakers reuse the same core structure so they can make different electric models faster and cheaper.
A slanted tailgate is a rear door shape that’s angled instead of flat. It can help the truck cut through air, but it may make it awkward to reach into the bed.
EVs often get shaped to be more efficient, which can help them go farther. But those same shapes can make everyday tasks—like reaching into the bed—more annoying.
Aerodynamics is about how smoothly the air moves around the truck. Better airflow can improve efficiency, but the “slick” shapes can sometimes make the truck less convenient to use.
A rendering is basically a computer picture of what a new truck might look like. They’re using it to talk about the truck’s shape and whether it still looks like a real pickup.
Cab-forward means the cab (where people sit) is pushed forward compared to a traditional truck. That can make the hood look shorter, and it can change the whole “truck” look.
Ford is using “Model T moment” to mean “a big breakthrough that makes EVs affordable for regular people.” It’s like the original Model T made cars common, and Ford wants a similar impact with an EV.
The Ford Model T is a very old car from the early days of mass-produced vehicles. People use it as a comparison when they talk about a big change that makes something widely available. In the podcast, it’s used as a metaphor for a major breakthrough.
An “electric platform” is the basic design plan for building electric trucks and SUVs. It affects how the battery and motors fit, and it’s why the first real production models show up on a specific schedule.
A midsize truck is a pickup that’s not as big as the biggest trucks, but bigger than the smallest ones. It’s usually chosen for a good mix of hauling ability and everyday drivability.
Aerodynamic efficiency is about making the truck “slice” through the air with less resistance. Less resistance usually means better efficiency—so an electric truck can go farther on the same battery.
The Toyota Tacoma is a popular midsize pickup truck. When they compare Ford’s new truck to the Tacoma, they’re basically saying it’s aiming at the same kind of truck buyers are already shopping for.
Towing is how much a truck can pull behind it. Payload is how much stuff you can put in the truck itself—like tools or gear.
Term
clever bed solution
A “clever bed solution” refers to pickup bed designs that add functionality beyond a standard flat cargo area—like modular tie-downs, storage compartments, adjustable surfaces, or integrated utility features. These details can matter as much as towing/payload for buyers who use the truck regularly.
A V8 engine is a type of gas engine with eight cylinders. More importantly here, they’re saying new versions are coming, which could drive when new trucks arrive.
Concept
truck competition
Truck competition means the big truck brands are constantly trying to outdo each other with newer trucks and better features. The hosts are saying Ford can’t fall behind GM’s updates.
An aluminum plant is where aluminum is made in bulk for other factories to use. If something goes wrong there, truck makers may not get enough material to build as many trucks.
A production slowdown means the factory can’t build as many vehicles as planned. In this case, a fire affected aluminum used for truck bodies, so Ford had less production and fewer sales.
Ford’s Super Duty is the heavier-duty version of their trucks, built for big towing and work use. They’re talking about what might change in the next model year—especially the cabin.
A “new interior” means the inside of the truck gets updated—like the dashboard, screens, and materials. They’re saying the next Super Duty may change more on the inside than the outside.
Power Stroke is Ford’s diesel engine line. If the rumors are true about an “eight liter” diesel, it would likely be built to make more pulling power for heavy towing.
Emission systems are the parts that clean up exhaust so the truck meets pollution rules. Bigger engines can require different or updated systems to control smoke and other exhaust gases.
The Ford Ranger is Ford’s midsize pickup truck. The hosts discuss how Ford refreshed it in 2024 and may need another update by 2029 to stay competitive in the midsize segment.
Concept
HECA
HECA sounds like a code name for Ford’s next big truck plan. The hosts are saying the next couple of years will bring major changes because of it.
The 1972 Chevy C10 is an older pickup truck that a lot of enthusiasts love. Because it’s so popular, it’s also easier to find parts and upgrades if you want to modernize it.
Two-wheel drive means the truck only drives two wheels instead of all four. It’s usually simpler and more efficient, but it won’t handle rough terrain as well as a four-wheel-drive truck.
That phrase means the truck had a manual transmission with only a few forward gears. Fewer gears can mean more shifting and less flexibility compared to newer transmissions.
This is the idea of adding more gears to the manual transmission. More gears usually makes the truck easier to drive day-to-day and can lower engine noise on long drives.
“Three pedals” usually means a manual car: one pedal is for the clutch, and the other two are brake and gas. Driving a manual can feel more engaging because you control the gears yourself.
They mention going to the Nürburgring 24-hour race. It’s an endurance event where cars run for a full day, so it’s all about reliability and consistency, not just speed.
They mention a “97 Cobra,” which is likely a performance Mustang from 1997. Cobras are usually the sportier versions meant to be more exciting to drive.
They had a C5 Corvette with a manual. That’s a sports car setup where you shift gears yourself, and it’s generally considered more fun than an automatic.
The Cupra Born is an electric hatchback, meaning it runs on electricity instead of gasoline. It’s a smaller car designed for everyday driving. The podcast brings it up in a pricing discussion about how it fits into the electric market.
A “low lope” is that uneven, choppy sound an engine makes when it’s idling. It usually means the engine has a more aggressive setup that makes it sound and feel more exciting at low speeds.
They’re talking about how the truck feels alive while you drive slowly. Instead of being smooth and quiet, it vibrates a bit in a way that makes it feel more connected and fun.
The Chrysler New Yorker is a Chrysler vehicle name that’s generally associated with a larger, comfortable car. In the podcast, it’s brought up because it relates to what someone rented or discussed. The key point is that it’s a Chrysler model name used for bigger, comfort-focused vehicles.
Concept
minivan vs truck for family hauling
This segment highlights a common use-case tradeoff: trucks are great for towing and rugged tasks, but minivans can be more practical when the priority is fitting multiple family members in one vehicle. It’s a reminder that “truck life” doesn’t always mean using a truck for every trip.
The hosts connect the rental and driving plans to a trip into Bozeman, Montana, framing it as a base for friends and local truck/overland culture. For listeners, this helps explain why they’re talking about choosing the right vehicle for the trip.
Overlanding refers to long-distance, self-reliant travel—often with camping gear—typically on mixed pavement and rough roads. The segment ties Bozeman to an “overland” community, which is relevant because vehicle choice (and comfort for passengers) matters for these trips.
When you drive far, your fuel economy changes based on things like hills, how fast you go, and how full the car is. So the MPG you see on a trip can be different from what you’d get in normal city driving.
The Chevrolet Tahoe is a large SUV. It’s often used by families and for longer trips, and it shows up a lot in rental car fleets. That’s why it’s mentioned as a very common vehicle.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is an SUV made by Jeep. It’s designed to be comfortable for everyday driving but also capable on rougher roads. The podcast brings it up because it’s a vehicle people commonly rent or see around.
The Chevrolet Suburban is a big SUV designed to carry lots of people and gear. It’s commonly used by families and for trips. The podcast mentions it because it’s very common, especially in rental fleets.
A “people mover” is basically a vehicle meant to carry a lot of people comfortably. Minivans are popular for families because they’re easy to load, have lots of space, and work well for trips and activities.
Air suspension is a suspension system that can change ride height. It can lower the vehicle to make it easier to get in and out, and raise it when you need more clearance.
They’re talking about the idea that minivans have a bad reputation. The point is that a minivan can still be a smart, family-friendly choice even if people judge it.
Term
no-wheel drive
They likely meant “all-wheel drive.” That means the car can send power to more wheels for better grip, especially on slippery roads.
They’re talking about the Toyota Sienna minivan. It’s available as a hybrid, and you can also get it with all-wheel drive, which makes it more appealing for families.
This is a rugged off-road truck from Ineos. The “Quartermaster” version is meant to be especially useful for towing and adventure-style driving. The hosts are getting it for a longer test so they can compare how it handles real-world tasks.
Instead of driving a truck for just a day or a week, they’re getting it for a longer time. That means they can try more situations—like towing and off-road driving—so the review is based on real use, not just a quick test.
The Defender 130 is a Land Rover Defender with a longer wheelbase. That usually means more room for passengers or cargo. They’re comparing it to the Ineos to see how both trucks stack up for towing and off-road use.
The Land Rover Defender is an SUV built for off-road driving. It’s designed to handle rough terrain and tough conditions. The podcast mentions the longer “130” version, which generally means more space inside.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is a famous, rugged-looking SUV that’s built to go off-road. The hosts are saying they’d like to compare it to another truck/SUV so listeners can understand the differences in size and driving vibe.
The Jeep Gladiator is a pickup that’s designed for off-roading, not just commuting. The hosts mention it because it’s the kind of vehicle people cross-shop when they want a rugged truck.
The Ineos Grenadier is a tough off-road SUV with a very old-school, boxy look. The hosts are pointing out that it feels different inside too—especially the dashboard and the way the gear selector is set up.
The B58 inline-six is a type of engine BMW makes. The hosts are saying it’s a really good, capable engine, which matters because it affects how the vehicle drives and feels.
The transmission is what sends power from the engine to the wheels. The hosts are saying this vehicle uses a BMW transmission, which usually means it’s a well-developed setup.
A differential lets wheels turn at different speeds when you’re turning. A locking differential “locks” that behavior so both wheels on the axle spin together, which helps when the ground is slippery.
The Jeep Rubicon is a Jeep trim made for off-roading. They’re using it as a comparison to say this truck is built with similar tough-terrain capability.
They’re basically saying the truck feels like a supercharged version of an off-road Jeep. It’s a way of saying it’s built for tougher terrain than a typical truck.
Mercedes-Benz is the German automaker referenced here as the company whose factory was repurposed for another vehicle’s production. The speaker uses this to explain why the manufacturing setup and location might be tied to pricing.
Tariffs are taxes a government places on imported goods. In pricing discussions, tariffs can raise the cost of vehicles and parts, which can push MSRP and dealer pricing higher.
The Volkswagen Eos is a Volkswagen car with a convertible-style design. The podcast mentions it while talking about pricing and how it affects the overall cost picture. The main point is that it’s a specific model being discussed in that context.
Car
Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon is a luxury SUV that also looks and drives like it can handle rough terrain. The host is saying there isn’t a luxury “G-Wagon-style” pickup that fills that niche.
Lockers are traction devices that help both wheels on an axle work together. If one wheel starts slipping, lockers help keep the car moving instead of spinning in place.
A status symbol is an item (like a car) that signals wealth, taste, or social standing beyond its practical function. The speaker frames a hypothetical Bentley pickup as an “ultimate status symbol,” emphasizing how branding and price perception drive buyer behavior.
Off-roading means taking a vehicle on rough ground instead of normal roads. It can be anything from dirt paths to rocks and sand.
Term
crawling walls
“Crawling walls” means going up something really steep very slowly. It’s the kind of driving where the truck has to grip well and move carefully, not race.
If a company builds the truck closer to where it will be sold, it can sometimes avoid extra taxes and shipping costs. That can help the truck end up cheaper for buyers.
The “chicken tax” is a widely known U.S. tariff that historically targeted imported light trucks, making them more expensive to bring into the country. In this segment, they argue that moving production to North America could avoid those tariff costs, which would lower the final price.
Concept
British car made with a heavy influence by Germans, produced in France
This describes a common modern automotive pattern: a brand’s origin (British) plus engineering influence (German) with manufacturing in another country (France). It’s relevant because it ties into how supply chains and production locations affect pricing, tariffs, and availability.
A “solid axle” is a heavy-duty suspension setup where one axle assembly connects the wheels. It’s common on trucks because it’s tough and works well when you’re hauling or driving on rough roads.
“Body on frame” means the truck’s body sits on a sturdy internal frame. It’s used on many trucks because it helps the vehicle handle towing, hauling, and rough terrain.
The Volkswagen Golf is a smaller car meant for everyday driving. The podcast mentions it can tow in certain setups, which means it can pull a trailer if it’s equipped for it. It’s a reminder that towing isn’t only for big trucks.
Term
Search brakes on their trailer
This sounds like “surge brakes,” which activate the trailer brakes automatically when the trailer pushes forward during braking. It can reduce the need for a separate electronic controller.
Towing a heavy trailer isn’t just about having enough power. Your brakes, cooling system, and stability also have to handle the extra weight, and that’s why towing can feel very different from normal driving.
Wind can push your car and trailer around, especially when you’re going fast on open roads. That can make the whole setup feel less stable and harder to control.
The BMW 5 Series is a luxury sedan. It can feel stable on the road, but towing heavy loads is a different job than normal driving, so the hosts are surprised someone is towing that much with a sedan.
The Autobahn is Germany’s highway system. The hosts mention it because driving conditions and speed expectations there can be very different from what most people experience.
Some countries require cars to be checked regularly to make sure they’re safe to drive. The hosts are saying that could help explain why certain towing setups work better there.
Couch Off Road is a company that helps set up vehicles for off-road and overland use. The hosts mention it because their friend’s business is popular with customers who want those kinds of builds.
Dirt Box Overland sounds like a company that helps people build vehicles for long-distance off-road trips. The hosts mention it to show how popular this kind of outfitting is among their friend’s customers.
They’re saying the truck uses tire and wheel setups that are easy to match in many countries. That matters because if you travel and get a flat, you want to be able to find the right replacement parts.
The Raptor R is a super-capable off-road Ford truck. The point here is that if you run very large tires, it can be harder and more expensive to find replacements when you’re far from home.
“37s” means very large tires—about 37 inches tall. Bigger tires can help off-road, but if you get a flat far from home, finding the exact size can be tough and expensive.
Caster is an alignment angle that helps the steering wheel naturally come back to center after you turn. If there isn’t much caster, the steering can feel like it doesn’t “snap back” on its own.
If the steering won’t naturally straighten out after a turn, you have to correct it yourself. That can make the truck feel a little less smooth to drive.
The “toot button” is a small horn button meant for a quick, gentle beep. Instead of blasting the horn and scaring someone, you can give a calmer warning.
A backup camera shows what’s behind the truck when you’re backing up. They’re saying the camera image and screen brightness/resolution weren’t ideal, so it can be tough to see clearly.
A “six by six” truck has six wheels, and it’s built to drive all of them for extra traction. They’re saying they may not test every off-road capability, but they still want to evaluate how it drives and how the tech works.
Infotainment is the truck’s main screen and electronics for things like music, navigation, and settings. They want to compare how it behaves between different versions of the truck.
The Chevy Silverado is a major big pickup truck from Chevrolet. The hosts are bringing it up because they’re talking about what GM and others are planning for the next few years.
Hybrid technology means the truck can use both a gas engine and an electric system. That can help it use less fuel, and it may also give you extra power for tools or camping gear.
Term
export power
“Export power” means the truck can send electricity out to other things. Think of it like having a built-in power source for tools, chargers, or camping equipment.
A hybrid heavy-duty pickup is a big truck that uses both gas (or diesel) and electricity. The idea is to get some of the efficiency benefits of a hybrid, but it’s harder because these trucks do heavy work like towing and hauling every day.
The worry is that a diesel hybrid adds a lot of expensive parts on top of each other. You’re paying for the diesel hardware and emissions equipment, plus the battery and electric components.
A turbocharged diesel is a diesel engine that uses a turbo to push extra air into the engine. More air helps the engine make more power, but it usually costs more to build and maintain.
The idea is that instead of bringing a separate generator, the truck itself could provide electricity for tools at the worksite. That could make jobs easier and potentially cleaner and quieter.
This is about using the truck like a power station for tools. Whether it works well depends on how much electricity the truck can produce and how long it can keep doing it.
Sometimes workers bring a generator and tow it behind the truck to get electricity at the jobsite. The hybrid/electric idea is to avoid bringing that extra equipment.
The discussion frames a costly truck purchase as a business expense that may be partially deductible for taxes. For many businesses, using a vehicle for work can change how much of the cost is deductible, depending on tax rules and how the vehicle is used/documented.
The Ford F-150 is a super common big pickup truck. The hosts are basically saying they’re curious what Ford will do next, but they don’t want trucks to get so expensive that normal buyers can’t afford them.
The Chevrolet Colorado is a smaller pickup than the big full-size trucks. The point they’re making is that it can be more affordable than the expensive big-truck options.
They’re talking about how trucks cost so much now that even used ones can be pricey. That changes what people can buy and what they’re willing to shop for.
The Toyota Tundra is Toyota’s big pickup truck. They’re saying even a used one can cost a lot of money, which is part of their concern about truck prices overall.
The Dodge Power Wagon is a tougher version of a pickup truck. It’s made for off-road driving and heavy-duty use. The podcast mentions it because people are excited about it and talk about it as an upcoming option.
The Ram Power Wagon is a tougher, off-road version of Ram’s big trucks. They’re teasing that there’s more coming for it, beyond what people already expect.
The Dodge Dakota is a pickup truck. The podcast mentions it as something on a wish list, including a specific “RT” version. In simple terms, it’s a truck model people want to talk about or own.
A manual transmission means you choose the gears yourself using a clutch and a shifter. It can feel more connected to the car, but it takes more practice than an automatic.
When you’re learning a manual, you can accidentally shift in a way that makes the gears clash. That’s what they mean by “grind the gears,” and it’s usually a sign the clutch/shifting timing wasn’t right.
Concept
cheap car series
They’re talking about a recurring segment where they review budget-friendly cars. The point is usually to see what you get for the money, not just how fast or fancy it is.
Topic
TFL Talkin' Trucks
This podcast segment is from a show that mainly talks about trucks. So the hosts are focusing on pickup and heavy-duty topics instead of regular cars.
The hosts reference “episode 328” as part of the show’s numbering. For listeners, this helps track where you are in the series and find related truck discussions.
Term
HD
“HD” usually stands for “heavy duty.” In truck talk, it means the conversation is about bigger, tougher trucks meant for more towing and hauling.

Welcome to our really fun episode of TFL Talking Trucks because I have a guest me which is Jen. I'm Jen
Hi, Jen. Well, you're actually not a guest per se because you're you're my colleague. Yes, co-worker
We do many different videos and tests together and stories
But you're here because we're trying something a little bit different. Yeah, let's do it
We're doing not so much talking trucks TFL talking trucks, but truck ish ish, you know
Yes, and this is because I last week I listened to the
Courage episode and I loved it. Thank you. It was really fun. It was Tommy case and you
Unfortunately, Mary
She's not working. It's not with us. Yes. She's working somewhere else rest in peace. No, no, no, no. No, no
She needs a lot of sleep. No, she she's alive and well
But I figured because there's a lot of travel going on, you know, oh my gosh, everyone's gone lately
Yes, everybody's gone. I was I just came back from vacation actually. Where did you go?
I had a miniature vacation in Yellowstone. Oh, I've never gone the Yellowstone the Yellowstone. Yes, okay
That's awesome. Yes
So we'll talk about that look at my wonderful family. Oh my gosh. How beautiful and we we smelled a lot of sulfur
Oh, yeah, you know the geysers and everything else
So so that's coming up, but I wanted to start this show a little bit more serious note
Not so much fun. I mean we love having fun, but the serious note is that Ford dropped some big news
Last week. Yes, just a few days ago
I heard that they're talking about bringing out not one not two not three
But four new trucks in the next two and a half years
Yes, and I did a I did a story. I wrote a story about this on TFL truck comm
But I I could not not talk about it. No, this is big news
Yes, so but it was kind of a little bit on the radar because
Every corporation and every company puts out press releases almost every day, of course
And Ford has a site they call I think they call it from the road. So it's a little bit not tradition
It's not a traditional media site. That's like Ford news.com. It's from the road. Okay, so from the road
They said and there's a quote
There's a quote here that they are announcing a new team and a plan
And they're calling it a massive portfolio renewal. Whoa, which is what it sounds like
Yeah, I mean pretty much getting all new trucks with the next two and a half years
So let me just just seriously speaking. Let me read this quote just really quick
Ford says by 2029 Ford Ford will refresh
80% of its North American portfolio by volume and 70% of its
Global portfolio by volume this includes the first vehicle on the Universal Electric Vehicle
platform you EV a mid-sized pickup truck and the next generation F-150 and
F-series super duty. Whoa, and those are the the big boys for Ford. Yes
I mean by volume that's most of their volume. Exactly. I mean, that's what they're saying 80%
So a big change so yeah, and that kind of makes sense because I think the F-150 is a little bit overdue on
On its refresh or re and next generation. Yeah
but
So but then there's also this I wanted to ask you what you thought about this rendering that I made based on some sketches
From Ford. This is there supposed this is supposed to be a hint
This is not what their electric truck looks like, but this is supposed to be a hint of what it could look like
Okay, so I've got some
Something good to say and something bad. Okay. Lay it on me. The good thing is I'm really happy. This isn't what it is
What is it? The bad news is it looks terrible
So I think it's just
No, it's a little bulbous. It's a lot bulbous. It's it's bubbly dare. I say no
It's um, it's a little much and then I know a lot of the trucks
Especially EVs are going for that kind of slanted tailgate
But just as we experienced with the grenadier today, that isn't always the greatest especially when you're trying to reach over the side
You just can't exactly so kind of limits some of these ability. I know it's for aerodynamics, but
Yeah, so if you're joining us on just listening to us
we're kind of looking at the rendering of a
pickup truck
That doesn't look traditional. It's a little bit more cap forward. Yes
So the cab is a little bit more towards the front axle. There's has a very short hood area
There is no engine obviously because it would be electric, right?
I'm talking about their they called it several months ago
They came out with this news and they called it their model T moment, which is supposed to be their very big
Push to create an affordable electric vehicle not a hundred thousand dollar one, but that's thirty thousand dollar vehicle well
and like you said, it's supposed to be very aerodynamic
which but
But it also has to look good. I mean, yeah, yeah
Um, I don't know. This doesn't even look like a truck
This looks like more of just kind of a car that's trying to be a truck. This doesn't look like that traditional type of
Yeah, profile, you know, so we'll have to judge it when we actually see it. Yes, right?
So this was just a hint of what's happening. So
We also currently live so on our patreon page patreon.com
Slash tfl car is the only page of the tfl studios that we have
So you could join us you could support us you'll get some so Gavin is one of our managers of our patreon page
He does a great job
He uploads videos before they're published on YouTube. Mm-hmm. Yes. Thank you Gavin
Yeah, so if you are a member if you just support us there, you can get some early looks at what we're doing and sometimes some
Extras that we don't normally show exactly and one of those extras we'll talk about later is
We have a long-term inios grenadier quartermaster that you're referring to. Yes
So that's that's a fun vehicle, but I really want to get back to forge just another minute or two
the Ford news
Which is
So we know the electric thing is happening, right and I listened to a lot of
Statements that Ford put out about the electric platform. I was very
Just curious. Okay. We're curious about all vehicles here, right?
So I really wanted to know a lot about it. They said it's coming sometime in the middle of 20 27
So I'm guessing that's gonna be summer. Yeah, next year. So within the next
Year plus a little bit. We should see not just vehicles, but actually production and sale
So that's the way I understood even before that. We really should see
Yeah, exactly so if that rendering is just horrible
For a lot of people because our producer call was also not a huge fan. He looks sad. He does look very sad
So let's not judge that by that
But what's what's let's judge it by is it's supposed to be affordable. It's supposed to be really super efficient
Aerodynamic it's supposed to be a midsize truck, which means it's supposed to compete against the likes of
Like the Tacomas right out there, which means it could tow a decent amount
It could have some payload could have a really clever bed solution
So it could have a lot of things. So that's coming within about a year now
GM is really big
On their Silverado and Sierra trucks and we know they're coming this year with 20 27 models
So that's kind of what I wrote in my story
So of course Ford cannot just sit out right and wait they have to be part of this. Yeah, they have to be part of it
So CEO GM CEO Mary Barra. She said
We will see those trucks this year
That's exciting. So 20 27 months. So new V8 engines. We talked about it in previous shows
So that to me means that F-150 will not be far back, you know far away. No, they they they can't be
Yeah, they have to be in line with this competition. So unfortunately for Ford
There was a big fire at one of their plants aluminum plants that produces aluminum for their truck
Bodies and construction and so they were had a bit of a slowdown in their production and some sales
They they lost some sales in the first quarter. We did a story about this already
Gosh, so that was rough. So they need every help they can get
Yeah, yeah, so really let's hope that whatever they are going to be producing is gonna be well-liked
Otherwise, this race is gonna be over before it starts. So then super duty
So there's an image all this on this post if you scroll a tiny bit
This was an image from Ford that you could see Jim Farley right there in the middle
Hanging out and looking at some new stuff at their facility
So I said I labeled this image 20 27 super duty
But I was wrong because this was many months ago and for 20 27 the super duty will
It appears it's gonna stay mostly the same
Okay, so I was wrong in my estimation there, but look at this. They're looking at the new interior
Yeah, they're looking at a lot of new things. So I'm betting since they said by 20 29
It's it could also be all new
That we'll see it
Maybe in 20 28. Yeah, I mean maybe that's not too far away. So okay, so not a full refresh for 27 for super duty. Yeah, but
Possibly not too far. Yeah, and the huge news, of course about super duty trucks and heavy-duty in general
Is that there's a lot of rumor about?
Like larger displacement diesels. There's supposed to be an eight liter power stroke eight liters eight liters not seven three
Not six seven but but eight because bigger is better
Right, so so there's a lot of rumors about different emission systems bigger diesels. So Ford didn't announce anything yet
Okay, all right, so
And also they mentioned the midsize truck. I'm assuming it's a ranger. I would assume
I mean, I can't imagine they're gonna add another midsize truck to their lineup
Yeah, so there may be some confusion
Maybe that ranger the midsize truck they talked about was electric or maybe it's in addition to
But the ranger was refreshed in 24. So by 20 29, it will need something. It's gotta have something
Yeah, so to keep it more competitive and more fresh
So that's coming up pretty soon as well
So that's that means that the next two to three years are gonna be HECA
Exciting that's I think so. Hello. I think so
Hello exciting
Hello exciting
Yeah, that's gonna be great. So
That's gonna be huge
Now I wanted to ask you a question me. Yes, okay, because I know you've had several vehicles in your
Like fleet over the years. Yes, I have a lot of them were very
Sporty, I would say for the most very sporty cars. Yeah most recently you had a BMW three series my 335
Yes, then you you currently you actually bought a disco 5 I did from Land Rover from the company
I did so that was cool
But have you ever owned or thought about owning a pickup truck? Oh, Andre
I have wanted this one truck since I was maybe
Nine years old
How come you just I just well appear that you saw it's a mouth. Yeah, it's difficult to get and it's not a great daily
Especially when you grow up in the Midwest
But I have wanted a 1972 c10
like
Ever a Chevy c10. Yes. I have wanted one forever
Oh, just look how beautiful that is which color or
Just strictly like a two-wheel drive little
Not an off-roader not a big giant. No, no, no. I'm talking. I'm talking not low necessarily
But I'm not talking about an off-roader by any means. Okay, okay
White silver black the blue really all of the colors are amazing get that 402 cubic inch
300 horsepower back in the day. Oh my gosh
And then you know, they came with like a three or four speed manual
So that is something I'd like to update and do like a five or six speed manual that would be pretty cool
But so three pedals that okay pedals are always more fun. Yes, but that has been a truck
I have dreamt about since I was a wee a wee child
So it never just materialized. So you never were able to know. I always got something that was more practical
and therefore more boring, but
But I think um, but not that some of the other cars you had were boring. No, like, okay
So my first car was was a 1984 190 e and that was a little five speed manual
Okay, maybe not the most exciting car in the world. No Mercedes. Yeah, that thing was awesome
But I don't I don't think I realized how awesome it was
When I had it because those things have blown up because if you kept it, oh my gosh, that could have been something
Oh my gosh, it could have been something so so special and when I went to a big one big wiper
Oh, yeah, and when I went to the Nurburgring for the 24 hour race last year, that's right
They were everywhere and I just had a little tear every time of what what could have been. Oh, yeah
But that was that was probably okay. What's next what what came after the Mercedes?
Um
Then I had to get just kind of a normal car. I think I had like a Malibu
Okay, and I was boring, but then I got a a 2012
um
The Buick Regal GS that was a six speed manual
Okay, that's a little bit more fun. It was a little fun. Yeah, uh one point. I had uh 97
Cobra
I had a c5 manual
Um, so some fun cars
Yeah, but but that truck that's c10 kind of got away still that's
But hey the girl that got away. It could be it could be in the future. She's still in the future. Yeah, it's coming
You know what would happen. I'm afraid is that you in case
You in case will have to fight
I think the c10. I think the c10
That era c10 1972 or 71 maybe
Is one of his favorite eras of truck
well
So I liked it before he was born probably so i'm gonna say I liked it fighting words than he has
He's not here, of course. We're just going off of age. He's not here, of course. Yes, so
But anyway, if you if there was a day we're here at the studio
I just came in one morning, you know, just regular business
And you pulled up on the c10
And then case pulled up at another c10. That would be a sight
I would I have the goose bumps that that would be a sight for the ages. I would get my
Phone out cameras out. That would be insane. That would be incredible. And those are the trucks where
You know going slow and feeling that that low lope like it's about to die. That is is my dream
It's not about high speeds. It's not about how fast you can go. It's not about jumping kills and stuff. Oh, no
It's about just the engine practically shaking you a cruiser a cruiser. Yes. Yes true and true
All right, so maybe that'll still that's still in the cards
Um for sure. Yeah
In a world where business owners everywhere are burning out
I just can't do it anymore and are losing their identities to ai who even am I

So like I was mentioning just switching gears just a little bit. Uh, yep. There you go. Uh, we switched it. Um
So I went to Yellowstone. So this this wasn't my first trip to Yellowstone. Oh, okay. Um, I'm not bragging
Wow
sick flex andre actually, can I show? Um
There's a bison. Can you show a buffalo? Yes
So I learned something so
First of all, it was a small like family reunion for my family. It was my mom's birthday
So my sister flew in from new york city
With her boyfriend. It was amazing. You know, my son was there
Um, they don't really the person we were missing was my daughter. She had a volleyball tournament
So unfortunately, she wasn't able to make it
But she also prefers driving because she gets a little bit nauseous while being a passenger in the car
Oh, okay. That's an issue for her. Yeah, so
But we rented
One of the best vehicles of all time. She had some light. What'd you rent? Yes? We rented
A new chrysler pacifica. I was not expecting you to say that
The big truck man
Okay, so what did you like about it? There comes a time in every trucker's life
Where they need to put seven of their family in one
In in one vehicle that's fair. That's a fair point and and actually go for a drive
um
Okay, I'm a little bit making fun of this but nonetheless
It was actually super useful. It looked almost identical to this. It was red. Okay, so that was really
You know, sometimes you get a boring car like gray silver
Gosh, whatever, but it was red. So I knew it was an omen. I knew something good was gonna happen
This is gonna be good. Yeah, we flew into bozeman
Which is by itself an amazing city. Oh, yeah, uh bozeman montana
Um, a lot of our friends and people we work with are are there, you know
Aeve is from oh, yeah
Gfc campers a sella truck
I mean
X overland team is you know is based out there
near bozeman
Um, a lot of just fun
Overland type people which makes sense or trucky people camping people are there
So so it's a beautiful city small nice airport airport
So we put we put in like I said, there was a lot of us in one vehicle
Actually, we met at this airbnb and then we took the van everywhere all over Yellowstone
600 miles we put on
In three and a half days. Dang. So that's a lot of driving. Yeah, big country. Yeah, big country
Cole I gave Cole a little snippet
Of my dashboard because I wanted to show my efficiency
Does that say 28 28.8 get out of me. Why is it so bad quality? What is wrong with me?
Don't I do this professionally?
Well, not while driving. Okay. Okay. No, this wasn't driving
I was parked at the rental place when we returned we did 590 something miles
And there's another clip 29. So one of them showed 29.1 also out of focus
Oh my god, well, we get the picture kind of but we don't get the picture
Anyways, that's fantastic though. Can you imagine we drove all the way up and down these hills and mountains around Yellowstone
on the west side so we're basically on the west side of the park and
And
Something like 29 mpg in the very end. And so it's a very but you know the downside is it's about it's about three inches off the ground
Oh, yeah, there's there's not a lot of ground clearance on a pacifica. No, especially when you put seven folks in there
Oh, yeah, there's even less it goes lower and anyways, but everybody was comfortable. Um, you know
just
Yeah, and we spent like I said, we spent like our
Transiting between geysers and stuff like that. Do you see any like actually go off? Yes old faithful, of course
Because it's the most reliable things to think to see
This is a picture not of old faithful, but they have
These you know hot swimming pools everywhere. I do not you're not supposed to swim. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you don't swim
So first of all the color comes from bacteria. So a lot of bacteria like the hot
Water in the minerals. So first of all, yeah, anyway, you're not supposed to touch the bacteria
You're not supposed to touch any of this. It's a protected national park. Yeah as it should be
So please don't swim in the geysers. Okay, swim. Also, they could boil boil you. Oh, yeah, not to mention. It's not good for you either
So just don't so
um
Yeah, I was you know, everybody made fun of me, you know, why did you rent the pacifica?
Yada yada yada, you know, why do you rent a truck and put everyone in the bed?
Well, yeah, exactly
So but the other vehicle that's really popular is like a Tahoe, right? You go into the rental place
It's full of suburbans. There's a suburban everywhere. There's also a jeep grand wagon near there was stacked up like
I don't know four deep. Okay in this place
But here's the thing pacifica is way cheaper to rent. Yeah, and it was also 29 ampg
Yeah, I was gonna say you're not going to get 29 with a suburban or a Tahoe
No, no at the best you might get 20 in one of those bees
Yeah, but with seven people with it fully loaded. I don't know that was even hard to get
So I think a minivan is still one of the key
People movers. I think yeah, you know, I have I have a friend that um, he sports a
Toyota sienna
And he uh, they had their daughter two weeks after I did so they've got a little six-month-old baby
But he has actually had this this minivan for years
Way before he became a dad and he will fight tooth and nail to tell you that it's the best car out there
Now that's a confident it is a confident man
So, you know, he plays softball so he can fit all his softball bags golfing if he goes, you know
Tailgating he can fit all these people and he will he will fight tooth and nail to let you know that is the best
Car out there and I think that's pretty funny. You know my son
He's not super huge into vehicles. Okay, and he was sitting right behind me in the second room
He's a pretty tall dude now
Um, and he said hey dad, I think a sliding door makes a lot of sense. It does. I was like, what?
It but it does you can't argue with it
It does you park and the door opens wide
I know and it's you could still have lots of space next to you. Listen, andre. I'm on the same page as you
I don't have to convince you of this. I now also have a daughter
I have to deal with the car seat and everything
And I chose to go with the disco five which is not necessarily a minivan
Well, but I I see you know
How nice it would be I just but you can slam your disco five down on that air suspension. No, I can it's pretty sweet
You could or you could lift it. I can you could lift it up. I mean, yeah quite a bit of ground clearance
But yeah, no, I get it. It it's super helpful
But it's it's hard to pull the trigger because I don't know why but minivans always kind of have this
Stigma bar the stigma that like you just kind of gave up your life
And now it's over, but maybe it shouldn't maybe it doesn't have to be that bad
That's why the best garage has multiple vehicles in it. Yeah, right and usually one is a stacked up minivan
Right no lowered minivan
By the way, sienna you can get as a no-wheel drive also as a hybrid. Yes. Um, so all the good things, right?
All the good things. I'm looking at my phone because
I saw I'm sorry. I'm spending so much time on yellowstone
But I saw I saw something that could be once in a lifetime
period
Really? Yeah, cool. I'm gonna send you this to you
My dad actually was able to capture this
on camera
I we went to
Let's see. We went to
Old faithful geyser which goes off
Approximately every hour cool plus or minus gosh 20 minutes in some in either way
Uh, and so we knew that it's about to
Go off and it started to go off on time. It was like 1205 p.m
Lunchtime almost noon
and out of the corner of my eye
I see
A meteor a shooting star
A huge one go across the sky. No way. Yes
This is a still image that my dad was able to capture because as a as dumb as dumb as I am
I was filming it with the geyser with my phone for about
60 or 70 seconds and I got tired of it. Yeah, you're like, all right. I get it. It's spewing water
You know, it's great. We got it. We got it. So I clicked
Stop recording
And then I see this meteor
Okay, but but how could you have known that that would have happened? No, I mean, that's that's once in a lifetime thing
Because first of all to see meteor during daytime
Unheard of because it has to be large enough to start burning and making a huge
Tail fireball, you know, basically in the sky
So and then I thought I was hallucinating
Well, you know, so I asked my wife my wife
Samantha, she was near me and I said sam. Did you see that and she said see what?
And she didn't see it
Maybe she looked away for just a moment. Okay, let's hope
And then this other lady who we've never met, you know, just another tourist that was there
She said I did see it. Oh
I'm like see I wasn't hallucinating
But your dad saw it too and my dad well, he didn't see it
But he was just clicking his camera. No, so he took a picture of this is a random image
Shut up. Wow
That's cool. That's really really cool. He was just he had a fast in the shutter cooler
Just he was like taking like 20 pictures. When did he realize did he realize in the moment that he had captured it?
No, so I said
Dad, did you see it? He said no, I didn't see it. But he said but I kept taking pictures. That's what he said
So he had to go home
You know to just look through some images and he finally found it. That's even cooler. Yeah
Wow, that is I would say that's once in a lifetime. So I'm not crazy
and it did happen
and
And it's I think they're very rare. I can during an eruption of a geyser. Yeah, that's pretty spectacular. So I think
So what could it be? Do you think it could be aliens?
Or a spacecraft?
Like one of ours, I mean, I was gonna say is that is that the Artemis 2 returning? No, that's okay
because that
That already happened
That already happened before that so so
Um, no, but I think it is meteor because there's like an april meteor shower happening right now
Have you ever seen like a real meteor shower before a bunch happening at the same time? Yeah. Yeah, but like they're usually like one a minute
You know, like you see one and you wait a few seconds and you see another one. How cool. Um, very cool
It's happening right now
So at midnight tonight, everybody should go outside
And you could see some meteors. It's tonight
It's happening for several days. Oh, okay. Yeah. Well, my daughter doesn't let me sleep anymore. So I'm sure I'll be like
So when your daughter when your daughter is not sleeping, you could you could do that? Thanks, Maddie
All right, let's switch gears again. Are you ready? Okay enough about their gear
Um
Ineos grenadier quarter master. Wow
What a truck. It's a long name. It is but not a long wheelbase
So that's interesting. So we just you know, I just did a video introducing it. So
Thank you to ineos. We're having it for actually did you say six weeks? That's what I heard. Yeah, that's what I heard
Sounds right. Yeah. Yeah, that's pretty awesome because we can do a lot of stuff a lot of testing a lot of comparisons
Over six weeks. We often get loan vehicles for like a week
Sometimes if it's a pickup truck sometimes we get two weeks with it because we need to do a towing test
We do several different things
but sometimes
If we have it just right and zack was instrumental. I mean zack was working with ineos. Thank you to our
office manager zack for this
He's been working really hard with the ineos and we agreed on a longer term loan
So we can do many things. Yes towing trailers going off-road
Comparing it to other vehicles. Yeah, I think this is going to be awesome because I would really like to compare this to our defender
We have a defender 130
Something that this is kind of based on exactly
I just wish we had a g-wagon because I'd like to compare it against that too because here's a message to our listeners
If you have a g-wagon in boulder, colorano
But but they don't make pickup trucks, but you know, they made like six by sixes. That's true. Oh wait
That's true. I know somebody with a six by six g wagon. Let's get on this
Why didn't I think about that sooner? We need to make a call
Okay, oh wow, okay. I'm looking at call our producer. Cole make the call
He doesn't have a phone number. Okay. Well, that would be a wonderful comparison, but we also have a
Gladiator oh even better. Yes. I mean also at the same time
So it's weird because you'd think a gladiator and this grenadier are essentially within the same
Area right the same class. Yeah, but this from just the looks of it looks so much bigger
And in person it looks huge. It does. It does look huge. Maybe it's just because it's super tall
And super upright boxy, but yeah, look at the size of that windshield. It just goes up so high
It's massive just goes up a lot of cool stuff with the with the grenadier. I was a big fan of what I saw so far
Loved all the switches. I felt like I was in an airplane
But you know, it's what you usually want when you drive a car. Yeah, there is a picture
It has a very unique dashboard. You will not see a dashboard like this. I think in any vehicle
Maybe an airplane. Yeah, maybe an airplane
But it's also there's a lot of weird things about it, right? Do you know my number one weird thing? What is it?
It's the gear selector
Oh, we have another picture of this. I think
Uh, maybe not. Yeah there so because this is powered by bmw. You know, it's got that b58 inline 6
Uh, which is a phenomenal engine
But it also has a bmw transmission, which is also great
But this pokes out and that does not make sense with the rest of the basically the console shifter
On the senate console the transmission shifter looks elegant
It very elegant, but it's not fitting with this blocky
No square truck with this, you know, big manual chunky switches and then you've got like
Stilettos, you know, like that's weird, you know, yeah
I have anything against that gear selector on itself, but it doesn't quite mix with this interior
Yeah, and um, but otherwise, I mean other than the truck's price. Here's another image
We're looking at at the overhead console. Yes, which also looks like an airplane. Yeah, that that was really cool other than the
Some of the quirks of the interior. I mean, it's a very capable vehicle
Um, it's also very expensive. Yeah. Yeah, I mean it starts right there
You could see it 85 000 it starts at starts at and the one we have has quite a few options
Yes, I mean the color alone is nearly a thousand dollars and we have locking differential front and rear
Front and rear
So it's basically kind of like a rubicon on steroids like a jeep rubicon or rubik you or um
You know, what else I was thinking about, uh, one of the more expensive midsize trucks is a gmc canyon 84x
Kind of like the one we own. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but uh, a v addition. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, which we tested also beefier
Were you involved in that last year? No, I was not. Um, we had one on loan
And it comes on 35. So it's really big and beefy. I lied to you. I was involved. We've done too many videos with
The snorkel. Yeah the snake, right? Yes. Yeah
The snorkel
That was 72 000
And we thought it was knock me over expensive. Remember? Yeah. Yeah, but
It's not as expensive as a grenadier, but the grenadier is kind of its own animal
And do you think that's why maybe it's more expensive because it's kind of this
It's the new kid in town and it's something that's been built from
scratch essentially and
It still turns heads because people are like, what is that? Is that an old defender or is that actually a new car?
I
So partially I think it's where it's built has a lot to do with the price because it's built in france. Yeah at an older
I mean repurposed mercedes factory
Um, which is near germany. In fact, and a lot of german engineers were involved in designing and helping build this thing
Um, but there's also chicken tacks. There is also tariffs
I mean, I think that that's inflating the price and I think in eos is eating some of that price also
to make
To make it affordable to sell but it's not as afford. It's not affordable period, right?
But I think because there is no g-wagon pickup truck and because there is no
like a premium like brand like lexus maybe or
What other brand do you think like I had this here's here's a question
Should Bentley build the pickup truck? Oh my gosh
No, because I was a little upset when Porsche came out with the
Panamera
I'm like and then the cayenne and then the cut. Well, you know what? I liked the cayenne because you know the earlier ones had
Lockers and that was pretty cool and capable but when they brought up four doors in a sedan
I'm like, no, no, no, that's not what you do. There's a line. They cross the line cross the line
I've forgiven them since so Bentley's already like 300 thousand dollars
So I was thinking they could potentially build the pickup truck because it would be the ultimate
Like status symbol in my mind. Okay, but I guess
I guess people would rather drive
A sedan Bentley or an SUV maybe yeah, then then a pickup truck
I don't know that people are going to drop, you know, two 300k on a truck
I think the if someone wants to feel rugged
But still have that class they're going to get a g-wagon
Whether it has a better or not, they're just going to get a g-wagon because it's been out there and it's been out there
They're not going to take it through the desert. They're not going to take it off-roading
But they're going to feel like they can but they're just going to be crawling walls
But that's okay for a meter a hundred thousand dollars. They could pick up this quarter master
I mean, that's kind of where it's at at this point
But do you think over time
That price can start to creep down? I think so because first of all
Well, eventually there'll be some used ones
But for the new quarter masters or the new graniteers, I think what could happen if they're successful
You know they start to build up a little bit, you know money in their company because it's a new company. So I mean
They started the production in like 2022 or 2023
So it wasn't very long ago and they're still kind of getting going and
Opening stores and dealerships around the country
If they can get going and move production maybe to a facility in north america, us
Then they can avoid a lot of the chicken tax problems and other
Possible tariffs. That's true. Um, and if that happens, which chicken tax is 25 percent
So all of a sudden you're not looking at the haunted grand all of a sudden it's now 75
Which is still too expensive, right?
But you could also create a little bit more affordable model of it
Which could bring it down. You could bring maybe a smaller version a baby graniteer. Yeah an eighth master. Maybe
You know british have the
funniest names. I mean sometimes so we have a quarter master field master
It's just a sub model. Okay. Yeah, and then it has other
You know, they have some cute names. So it's a british car made with a heavy influence by germans. Yes, but produced in france
Exactly. It's very simple. Yeah. Why isn't that cheap?
Of course it's expensive
exactly
But I think there is a place for it because it's super rugged. It has solid axles front and rear
It's a of course. It's a body on frame
It has a unique style to it that you won't expect
Currently from many other vehicles, but it's also capable. I mean it's towing is what capable up to 77 hundred pounds
That's not bad for a mid-sized truck very it's on the highest end because that's kind of the limit of and we'll test it
Oh, we're going we need to do the eye gauntlet with it. I mean we
There's no question. It has a hitch. It has a hitch. I mean it's already
It's already equipped ready to go and and why well, it doesn't have a brake controller
Okay, so that's already so so we'll have to get that for a hundred thousand dollars
We didn't get a brake controller, but it's kind of unusual. I think for for european vehicles
They look at towing a slightly different thing
So so sometimes you need to create, you know
Add something to it in this case a brake controller for the trailer
To actually get it to work. Yeah, how many british vehicles?
are offering telling well actually well
so
English people in european people do it differently. They will tow with their vw golf. I mean they don't they don't care
That's true. They don't care. They'll tow with anything. That's true, but um, but they also and they also often have, you know, those
Search brakes on their trailer so you don't have to have a wire right going like a boat trailer for example
So they'll have that so and they'll
Make fun of me. I met some, um, german engineers in sweden. I went there out there for hunday
Up for winter testing and he's like undre i tow five thousand pounds with my bmw five series
Try to stop me and i'm like, well
How do you stop? I asked him, you know, do you have trouble stopping? He said, oh, no stopping is perfectly fine
And i'm thinking to myself, how's this possible? How's this guy towing five thousand pounds with his sedan? Yeah
That weighs less than five thousand pounds. Yes, it does. Yeah, so I think it has to do with
The types of roads they're on, you know, when you're going 75 across colorado
And the wind is knocking you around. Yeah, and so I
I would really not want to tow with a five series. Yeah, is he doing that like, uh on the autobahn?
Or is he doing that, you know on smaller roads? He didn't explain
I hope he's not doing it on the autobahn at
150 miles an hour
But you know, but like a lot of countries like germany, they have very strict
You know motor vehicle laws, you know, you have to pass inspections and safety inspections. I love by the way
Yes, you cannot pass on the right in germany. Good. So so they have a lot of strict
And so maybe it makes sense for them to do this, but for us out here
We need something like the quartermaster. Yeah, I think you're right
I think there's a space for it and of course, it's too expensive and no one likes that
Nobody likes when things are too expensive, but I think it's really cool. I think it's
very new and different
and
There isn't really anything else quite like it
No, and one of our friends, uh, jay couch
At he's got actually a couple companies. He's got couch off road and he's got dirt box overland
He's actually
Outfitting graniteers left and right. I mean, it's a very it's a very popular vehicle for his
His clientele and his customers
So I think partially because
It could be used like you could feel at home in the u.s. Canada, mexico
You could go to other countries with it
Africa
Africa for sure the tire wheel and size and the bolt pattern is very common around the world
So it was it was designed, you know, it was designed in a very kind of international way universal
Yeah, I think that's really smart because if you take your Raptor R
I don't know to South America. Let's say and it's on 37s
Yeah, and you have a flat and you don't have a spare anymore because you used it up already
Yeah, and you go to the store and you're like, I would like a 37
Please and they'll say what?
For what is that? But for why?
Here's a little 37. What here's a little 31 inch tall tire for you. They'll just give you a little tire, right?
Okay, so so unless you're gonna put giant
Beefy tires on this thing which jay is doing actually I'm not surprised
But it leaves you a little more
availability to
Fix things if you're actually in other countries. Yeah, I think that's really smart
And maybe it's actually cheaper to maintain. Yeah, because big tires cost more money. They're more rare. They're harder to get
Big wheels like 20s or 18s or 19s. They're not really for off-roaders, right? No, no
So so but would you ever buy a granadier quartermaster? I would
You know, I was really on the fence
about it when we first started
Checking it out this morning, but then I loved it
Even even with the even with the quirks
Even with the quirks like the big one that a lot of journalists are upset about is the
The caster since there's not a whole lot of caster when you turn the wheel. It doesn't return
So you have to push it back. You have to push it back
But I think it is just kind of another quirk. It makes it feel old school and
kind of cool and a little
Violent and dangerous and fun. I know what it was
Cole, can you bring up another steering wheel?
Do you have a picture of the steering wheel on the quartermaster? Oh, I like this this too. Was it the toot button?
It's the toot button. I do
There's a red button on the steering wheel that says toot on it literally just says to and okay. This is a brilliant idea because
This horn the main horn in the center is a very robust horn and functional and functional
For sure, but let's see you got like a little old lady crossing the road in front of you
And for whatever reason you feel like you have to honk at her
Um, or maybe you know her or maybe you know, so you want to you want to honk your horn
So instead of giving a heart attack and killing her you just do a little beep beep and it's really cute
And I think I think it's actually whether or not people are ever going to use it
I think the fact that it's there and usable and actually makes sense is really really cool
But it's it's also a different color
So you could always see it and it's it's red and everything else is gray
And also it has a little bicycle symbol on it. So I believe some of the founders including jim ratcliffe
Who is the billionaire behind inios?
He's a bicycler. He likes to bicycle. So what do we have here around boulder?
Many different bicyclists of cyclists. So you can give them a little toot toot
Um, just to remind them
Single file only please. Oh gosh, please. Do not drives me crazy. Do not go side by side on a tiny road
It's very unsafe. But the fact that it says toot
It just puts such a smile on my face. Like how could you not you cannot take it too seriously, right?
No, how could you not love that?
It's fantastic and that's kind of what it's about. It also has some shortcomings this one
Like the screen we were having trouble seeing it's pretty dark
It's the resolution wasn't super great on the central
Yeah, if you're wearing sunglasses and you're trying to see the backup camera
It's a little bit difficult to do. So it has a couple of little quirks, but I think that's what makes it endearing maybe in some ways
Um, some of its quirks, um are quite interesting. Yeah, I cannot wait
I want to do a couple things with it. I I'm wondering if we could do like stock versus modded quartermaster
Okay, because we have access to some of them. Yeah, get up with jay couch
Then since you reminded me, I know somebody with a six by six. You're welcome, but that's not really fair. Is it?
It's a six by six. Well, okay
So maybe we're not testing some of the capabilities at the six by six
But maybe some of the image of it the image of it, you know, we could still test
driving straight or
Infotainment or whatever, you know, whether the steering wheel returns the doors
We could, you know, close the doors and we could listen to the doors
Yeah, because I will say the quartermaster had a good
Good thumb kerchunk to open it and a good click to close it, but it felt a little more
Robust rather than tinier on the g-wagon. Yeah, the g-wagon has a little bit more metallic sound to it
Maybe it'd be really interesting to do a side by side
Yeah, this has a little bit more
quieter sound but still very satisfying latch for sure that you that's really fun
Yeah, but I don't know if these doors on the quartermaster are actually meant to be taken off like the g like the g-wagon
I don't think so. I think the exterior hinges are for look
To make it look more robust and cool kind of like how you see the exterior hinges for the hood on it
Which I think makes it look really cool. Um, but no, I don't believe the doors are meant to come off
So a 1972 c-10 or a quartermaster. Oh c-10. Okay, a thousand so still c-10 is at the highest level
a thousand percent, okay
So quartermaster is still far into the future. Yes way well for me way far
But if I'm getting the truck, it's gonna be that c-10. That's really cool
All right, well, let us know what's your favorite pick-up truck. I'd love to hear all the time
It doesn't have to be new. No, mine's not new
But I'm also super psyched about what's happening in the next couple years like we're mentioning
Um, so this year we'll see Chevy Silverado and Sierra 1500 trucks
We will see and then Ford has a humongous plan
You know up to four different pickup truck vehicles in the next two and a half years
I mean, especially the one the f-150 alone is gonna be huge
Which is really I mean they say it's the best seller
But of course if you combine GM trucks, they're best sellers
But the Ford will tell you Ford will tell you brand-wise. It's the best seller
Okay, yes, so
Everybody's a best seller. Yeah, everyone wins. So everyone wins. Everybody gets a medal participation trophy. No
No, no, of course not but I'm
Ford did say that they're gonna be using a lot more hybrid technology
Which is a new hot word because fuel prices are pretty high and also
Hybridization has a lot of benefits like you could have export power. You could power job sites or your campgrounds
Oh hundred percent
So I'm really excited because right now they have an f-150 hybrid
But what if they had everything hybrid right including the super duty? Oh, that's a thought
That's a thought
Because nobody has done it yet. No, I'd be really interested to see how that would look and how that would work
Nobody has done a hybrid heavy-duty pickup truck
As far as electrification
Combination maybe with a gas v8 or maybe it's a diesel but the diesel hybrid would be so expensive
Oh, yeah, right diesel alone is expensive
Well, because diesel you have to have a turbocharged diesel which is expensive
Then you have to have emission systems potentially on it, which is expensive
Then you have to have an electric motor and batteries
Which are all expensive
But it would make sense as far as like what you said with the workplace
If you've got you know a heavy-duty truck, which typically goes hand in hand with the workplace
Being able to electrify your your truck and use it to power your tools would be
a fantastic idea
Yeah, because sometimes you have to tow a generator behind you, but now you don't
Or but now does this make your truck like 150 grand?
Maybe it's a business expense. You couldn't just write it off
As a just easy that's what people do with g wagons. Right stuff. Just just right. Just shift money. It's fine. It's a write-off
Just shift money. Well, no seriously a lot of people
and for good reason, you know
Correctly use it as a work vehicle, which is an expensive business expense, which which
Which is a heavy vehicle, which means they can write off a lot of that value
For their taxes. So that makes sense makes sense
I'd like to see it
So maybe but I'm not that proponent of making everything more expensive
For sure. You know me like I had a work F-150 truck and then I had a trail boss
Colorado which was also pretty affordable
Yeah
And then I had the I have a used tundra right now. So I'm not a proponent of a hundred thousand dollar trucks
No, no, I mean even the used tundra was still expensive
So it was 43 grand. Yeah, I mean so
But I'm curious to see what you're gonna get next and also
I heard ram has a lot of news also
Oh, really? Yeah, I can't talk about a lot of it
Any of it? Oh, so you're just teasing us now. Yes
Well, we know everybody knows the t-rex is coming so we can drive that. Yes, everybody knows the diesel power wagon comments
Power wagon is coming. We know this but they have other things
For the street I have wish lists. What is it? Like
an rt. Dakota
Oh
Like a street-based Dakota truck. Where am I? Are you listening? That would be amazing
I mean, this is coming from the girl who's been dreaming about a c10
So, I mean wouldn't that make sense for what? Yeah, but also a two door. Yes, something small affordable bench seats
Manual dang bring it back to the 90s. That's what I want
Unfortunately, I don't know if a manual can return. I mean easily because right now so
As of like a month ago the Tacoma has been the only truck available with a manual currently why do we do this?
And then jeep said wait a minute
We still could have a manual. So they brought it back. Okay
But now only the jeep gladiator and the Tacoma have a manual nothing else does
What is it like three percent of vehicles nowadays have are offered with a manual transmission? Yes
some very very low so so sad because we are witnessing an entire
era of vehicles just die
And it could be there it is fun to drive you're involved
I exactly that's doing things. I remember when I taught mary how to drive manual. Yes. It was in a Subaru. She got it
She got away. Well, she she understood. Yes. She understood
Why there you feel connected to the car, but it's also because you're a good teacher. Oh, thanks
Because if I if
I think well, but but also she was a good student
She's a great student. She listened and she trusted herself and that's I mean kind of what you really have to do
To drive me. I don't know. I don't I don't know. I mean I was thinking about really
I need to work with my son and my daughter to teach them or continue with a manual transmission, but
We just end up yelling at each other. I'll teach them. Hey, I'd love to
You
Exactly so we just need
A simple manual transmission which I can buy. Yeah
Because I don't want to use roman's cars, you know, no, I mean honestly
That's Subaru that mary drove was perfect because it was a pos
Um, no one cared. It was old lots of miles. If you bumped it, it's fine. You're gonna grind the gears. It's fine
You've made a producer cough
Well, sorry Cole, but it was a pos but also
Then case completely killed it. He did and I think he did it intentionally and probably with a smile on his face
He knew what he was doing. Well, he was on camera
And I think I saw a smile. I don't think he thought for a second. It was gonna come out of that water
He knew as he was driving in this is the end of its life. Well, it was for video
It was for I think he would have done it off video too
It was for views
It was yeah, it was part of our cheap car series that we're doing that was an awesome series. We got to do that again
Yeah, we do. Yeah, so yeah, so thank you for joining us. Uh, this has been truck ish
Yeah, thanks for having me or also episode 328
Which is talking trucks. Wow
Yeah, a lot of episodes right because car ish isn't what 26 or 25 four
25 we've had 24 episodes. We have 25 coming up. By the way, everybody has to listen to car ish
It's fun because it's not just, you know, me talking or forcing Jen to talk about trucks
No, no, it's not just me talking about trucks. It's like just Tommy and Jen and case having a lot of fun. Yeah
And just talking about other things other than cars. Yeah, sometimes it's it's ish, you know, and that could be anything
I forgot to tell you what I learned is that
in north america in the us
The bison the yellowstone bison is called the bison, right?
It's not supposed to be called the buffalo, right? Those are water buffalo
I have a problem with this. Oh
Because I wanted to see you bolder which are the buffs which are the buffs the buffalos the university of colorado buffalos
Which means I've been living a lie all this time. Yeah, did the school get it wrong?
Whoa
There's some fighting words coming out. Yes, you guys talking trying to fight the fighting rams are here
Is that a thing? You're just a big sheep hole. Okay. You're just a big bully sheep
so
so
I said to my family when we talked about this in yellowstone. I said, I don't care
what anybody says
It's gonna be a buffalo
Oh, there's like a water buffalo, which is a different species, right? It lives somewhere else
I don't care about water buffalo. Okay. I care about the bison buffalo. Okay. So are there no buffalo in the us?
Oh, can you can you google this fix this? Why are there any buffaloes in the usa?
Yes, okay wild buff. Oh, but they're called american bison. What is happening? What is what so?
Yes american bison wait do not are commonly called buffalo
From a true buffalo african buffalo and asian water buffalo
Oh, man
While bison is the precise scientific term buffalo has been used for centuries
Maybe that's why maybe buffalo is more traditional term that that that applies
But the bison is kind of like a
A version of it like a like a trim level. I would say oh a trim level. Okay. I thought we were talking about burgers. Maybe
Because no one would call it a buffalo burger
But have you ever heard of a bison burger? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. No, no, but on the menu. It says buffalo burger
No, I always thought it says bison burger. Oh, man. We're going down the rabbit hole. No, we're not even talking about trucks no more
See, this is the ish folks. Yes. This is the ish
Finally we have achieved
the truck ish
Anyways, so even though a bison is a technical term for a bison that we saw in Yellowstone
I refuse to say that. Okay. That's buffalo. Yes. Okay. That's fair. Although. Yeah, you could have a Chevy colorado bison
You know, I'm saying the trim level of the Chevy could be a bison
But when you refer to an animal, I would like to call it a buffalo. Okay. Well, I'm not gonna stop you
But Cole will Cole will stop everybody. He's a big party pooper. So well, yeah, we have some rival schools here
Which is which is healthy. I think it's a healthy rivalry
Anyways, so thanks for joining us. We'll see you next time. By the way next week. Yeah, it's a huge show
I'm planning. Oh
Even bigger than this one. What bigger than this one. How is that possible?
Well, let me tell you stay tuned because next week next week just a week from now
um
Nathan
Is returning. Oh my gosh the show. Okay. He's going to be here in person. That's huge. Yes
We're going to have a truck podcast with Nathan Adlin
Um, because he moved out to Los Angeles area for what a year and a half now maybe two years
So we've been missing out. We still do some videos together
But he's going to be in the studio with us doing a podcast
We're going to have an anniversary show because we kind of missed our march anniversary
Which was six years of the of this show
So i'm i'm also bringing other guests. Of course. I want to see roman on the show
case
And also i'm trying to pull the strings
And i'm trying to get mr truck
To come out of what a reunion to come out of retirement
Well, he's not really retired kind of slightly sort of retired to come out and be with us here
You should have just a line of people on a revolving door to come in. Well, we have four microphones, right col?
We have four
We have four microphones. I think we get like all 10 of us in here and just shout from the back. Well people can pass a microphone to each other
So it's going to be a big show me party some of the old fellas are going to be here. Um, so that's going to be um
It's going to be a big one. I'm excited. I'm looking forward to it. I have no idea what if it's going to be truckish or
It's probably it will be heavy duty
HD HD it's going to be podcast HD
So thanks for joining us again, and we'll see you next time
About this episode
Ford’s “massive portfolio renewal” is the headline: the next 2.5 years bring up to four new trucks, including a mid-size EV on the Universal EV platform, the next-gen F-150, and a heavily refreshed Super Duty by 2029. The hosts debate a sketch-based electric pickup rendering—efficient in theory, but oddly bulbous in shape. Between Ford talk, there’s a Yellowstone family trip in a Chrysler Pacifica (surprisingly efficient) and a deep dive on the pricey, capable Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster, including its quirky “toot” horn button. Manual-transmission nostalgia and future Ram rumors round it out.

The future of Ford trucks is here, and it is more massive than we expected! In this episode of TFLtalkin' Trucks, Andre and Jen break down Ford’s bombshell "portfolio renewal" plan. By 2029, Ford is refreshing 80% of its North American lineup, including a brand-new universal electric platform (UAV) designed for an affordable $30,000 mid-sized truck. We dive into the cryptic renderings, discuss the next generation of the F-150 and Super Duty, and speculate on whether Ford’s bold new aerodynamic designs are a win or a "bulbous" mistake.
The adventure continues as Andre shares the highlights from a 600-mile family road trip through Yellowstone. We discuss why the Chrysler Pacifica might actually be the ultimate tool for a seven-person national park expedition (29 MPG!) and recount the incredible "once-in-a-lifetime" moment where Andre's father captured a daytime meteor on camera during an eruption of Old Faithful. Plus, we welcome the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster to the TFL studio for a long-term loan. From its BMW B58 heart to the quirky "Toot" button and aircraft-inspired cockpit, we analyze if this $100,000 French-built beast can truly take the fight to the Jeep Gladiator and the G-Wagon.
