They’re talking about how the new car did on a trip—what it’s like to drive and whether it feels comfortable. It’s basically a real-world first-impression check.
The Audi R8 is a sports car designed for fast driving and a premium feel. The episode mentions it in connection with a screen or control feature, which is part of how the car’s interior is set up. That’s why it likely stood out in the conversation.
When you lease a car, the company usually expects some minor aging from normal use. “Normal wear and tear” means the small stuff they won’t charge you for. Bigger issues can cost extra when you turn the car in.
A “lease return” is when your lease ends and you give the car back. The company checks the car’s condition and decides if any damage is beyond normal use. In this segment, they say there’s an allowance that can help with the final bill.
The MAP sensor is a sensor that tells the engine how much air pressure is in the intake. If it gets dirty or blocked, the engine may not mix fuel and air correctly, which can lead to worse emissions and rough running.
The Ford F-150 is a large pickup truck meant for carrying things and towing when needed. The speaker is talking about truck size and comparing it to another F-150 variant. That’s why it came up—because it’s a standard reference for what “a truck like that” means.
Brake cleaner is a harsh chemical. They’re warning not to use it on the sensor, because it can potentially harm the sensor instead of safely cleaning it.
K&N makes reusable air filters that use oil to catch dirt. Off-road dust and filter oil can end up getting on sensors, so you may have to clean the sensor more often.
Service intervals are the scheduled mileage/time periods when a manufacturer recommends maintenance tasks. The hosts note that the MAP sensor cleaning may not always be listed, but in very dusty off-road conditions you may need to do it more often than the standard schedule.
The intake tube is the pipe that carries air into the engine. If it’s positioned where it gets hit by dirt kicked up by the tire, it can pull in more grime.
Starlink is a satellite-based internet service. It can work in remote places where your phone usually has no signal, so you can still connect devices and share location with friends.
An emissions probe is an investigation into whether cars are meeting pollution rules. Here, it’s about whether some devices/apps are helping people get around the car’s pollution-control systems.
OBD is the car’s self-diagnosis system. It lets tools read information about the engine and emissions, which is why mechanics and apps can “check” what the car is doing.
Emission systems are the parts in your car that help keep exhaust pollution low. The speaker is saying some devices can interfere with them so the car doesn’t control emissions the way it’s supposed to.
Term
data being slipped in
“Data being slipped in” is a lay description of unauthorized access or tampering—often discussed in modern cars as risks to vehicle data, connectivity, or diagnostic systems. In enthusiast circles, this can come up when considering how older OBD systems or connected features might be exploited.
A dump bed is the truck bed that can tip up so you can dump whatever you’re carrying. It’s made for hauling things like dirt or trash and unloading them easily.
Term
dump it
They mean unloading the truck by tipping the bed. With a dump bed, you can empty the load fast without shoveling as much.
Red diesel is diesel that’s dyed for off-road use. It’s often used on farms or equipment that doesn’t drive on public roads.
Car
Ford Raptor
The Ford Raptor is a tough, off-road version of Ford’s pickup truck. Here, they’re talking about whether they really need a diesel truck for towing, compared to the Raptor they already have.
They’re talking about what towing feels like with a diesel truck. The idea is that the diesel’s strong low-speed pulling power makes the trailer feel easier to manage.
Air shocks are suspension parts that use air pressure instead of metal springs. They can help keep the truck level when you’re towing so the ride feels more stable.
“Three-quarter ton” is a way people classify heavier pickup trucks. They’re saying these heavier trucks are better suited for towing than lighter ones.
MSRP is the “list price” a manufacturer puts on a new car. They’re saying the new sticker prices are similar, but the prices you actually pay used can be wildly different.
Independent front suspension is a suspension design where the left and right front wheels don’t move exactly together. That can make the ride smoother and help the truck handle better on rough roads.
Term
tremors
“Tremor” is a name for an off-road-focused trim level on Ford trucks. They’re saying they don’t care enough about that package to pay extra for it.
The Ford F-150 is a full-size pickup, and the hosts are comparing it to other trucks in terms of how practical it is to live with. Here it’s part of a discussion about choosing a used truck and whether it can replace their current setup.
Towing means pulling something behind the vehicle, like a trailer. The hosts are saying their use case involves towing, so they care about the truck setup.
Window tint is a dark film on the windows. It can help keep the cabin cooler and reduce glare, and here they’re saying this truck spec doesn’t include it.
The Ford Bronco is Ford’s rugged SUV that’s meant for outdoor and off-road use. Here, they’re talking about special Bronco versions with outdoorsy styling and branding.
Eddie Bauer is a lifestyle brand known for outdoor clothing, and it also appears here as a truck trim/edition name. The hosts are discussing the “Eddie Bauer” version of Ford Broncos and Expeditions, and how that trim is no longer available.
The Ford Expedition is Ford’s big family SUV with room for multiple passengers. In this conversation, it’s brought up because Eddie Bauer used to be a special trim on it.
Filson is a brand known for outdoorsy clothing and gear. The hosts are saying Ford is teaming up with Filson to make a special Bronco edition with a rugged, outdoors look.
Filson is a brand that makes outdoor and workwear gear. In the episode, they’re saying a car will get a Filson-themed edition, mostly for the look and style.
The Volkswagen Jetta is a compact car with a trunk, made mainly for regular commuting. The speaker mentioned a “Trek” version, which sounds like a particular trim they liked. That’s why it came up—because it was a memorable model from their past.
This is a Volvo wagon that was made to be faster than a normal Volvo. The “T5” means it has a turbo, and the “R” is a higher-performance version. People like it because it’s a practical car that can still feel exciting to drive.
“Buy here pay here” is when the car lot sells the car and also arranges the financing for you. It’s often used when people can’t get a loan easily elsewhere, so the cars can be riskier.
Fuel economy means how far the car can go on a given amount of gas. If someone says a car has bad fuel economy, they mean it burns more gas than you’d expect.
The Land Rover Defender is a tough, off-road vehicle that’s famous for being rugged. Here, the conversation is about why some people think the older ones are uncomfortable and have problems, even though others still think they’re great.
“Electronics issues” means the car’s electrical parts start acting up—like sensors or computer-controlled systems. When that happens, the car can behave oddly and repairs can be tricky.
“Leaked everywhere” means the car keeps spilling fluids. That’s a problem because low fluids can cause damage, and finding the exact leak can take time and money.
Gundam is a famous Japanese series about giant robots. The hosts are saying the game includes a robot-themed race, which is a fun twist on normal car racing.
The Volkswagen Golf is a small car, usually a hatchback, made for everyday driving. People talk about it a lot because it’s practical and comes in different versions. In the episode, it sounds like someone is remembering or comparing a Golf they had or wanted.

Welcome to the Avants podcast. I am Dan. I am Nick. Hello. Hello
The Avants podcast is now brought to you by AI
Yeah, along with everything else. We're gonna take your jobs. I
Know I shouldn't be so in love with Kate's new car, but I am yeah, tell me more. I
Went through a half a tank of gas on Saturday
290 miles
For a half a tank half a tank. Yes. Oh
How many how many gallons the hole I actually don't know we haven't filled it up yet
I was gonna say cuz that's about about about half a tank for me, but that's 17 gallons
I think I think we're I think it's an 18 gallon tank
I actually don't know like I said and we're purposely running it down to see what it is
But yeah, we went up
She wanted to go on a little adventure
And we went up and went to the top and went to the section pass and down. We're nice
Just I mean, I thought I'll be great great new drive to break in the car. It was raining. It was sunny
It was great
Deception pass was absolutely beautiful
Like I said and after all of our running around everything
We put like 290 miles on the car as I pulled into the driveway and half a tank of gas nice
I'm like, huh great. Okay new road trip car. That's comfortable very comfortable
They they they did some massive upgrades from like the last sport model. She had the last sport model
But it was a very comfortable car. It's got the new interior that digital dash is really nice ways comes up right in front of you
Oh, nice. Yeah, which I really like so
She loves it and you know, yeah, and when the R8 does that because it's only screen
That's it, you know, we were look we were thinking Subaru Sport Hybrid or R8, but it just didn't it's a good comparison
The tax savings just weren't there
Yeah
I'll tell you congrats again. I really like that car. I like the wheels especially
I love that and everybody's commented on that but that is stock like that. Yeah, that bronze color is and it's inside too
But it's subtle, which I really like. It's really nice and dark too. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I need a tent to windows
Like yeah, it's a lot bigger like the roof lines bigger and it you feel a lot more like a fishbowl
So yeah, if only I could find an avance partner for that, right? I know there was only one
One or seven or ten right go see our friends at s-tech by the way, that's what we cover all our vehicles in or when we don't
We wish we did yeah, so yeah, that's always a good thing to do. That's a big hood
I don't know if I want to be good, but I don't know. Yeah, it's a dark color car to you. Yeah, it's also a lease though
Yeah, that's that's probably the part that's stopping me more than anything which would be normal wear and tear
Yeah, so actually we get up to a thousand dollars normal wear and tear on that on the lease return. Oh, that's nice. Yeah built in
Nice. So go Subaru. Yeah. Yeah
Ah, you know
Lot going on right now. Yeah
Yeah, I'll be off
Not a vacation that we've got a bunch of stuff going on here
We got to deal with and then put up, you know, no don't change the podcast, but yeah
Yeah, just like going on in life your voice might get a little higher with the sex change, but that's true. Yeah. Yeah Danielle
I gotta start practicing. Yeah
One of our one of our regular listeners James shout out James always nice to talk to you
He asked us. Hey, can you tell me the date or the episode number when you start your shows?
So I know he's like, I don't he's like I get what you're saying about the intro music and not having that
He's like, I like that
but he goes I just need to know like the date because I I'll often
Like be trying to catch up which are a lot of our listeners do they get we get these little bursts on the stats
We're like somebody listen to six episodes in a row. Okay
If you don't know that if you don't know the number James, just start over. Yeah, just start over started one. Yeah
But just put it on while you're sleeping. Yeah, we have wonderful voices for that, right? Yeah. Yeah, it's like a training video at work
What number I don't even know what number we're on this is 4 4 6
geez so 4 46 and
Let's say we're recording. This is Wednesday the 20th
We typically record on Wednesdays and then we publish on Mondays at 12 o 1 a.m. Yeah
So you can wake up for your morning drive with us and and we're actually this is a weird thing
We are gonna make a public appearance tonight. Yes, some people don't you?
This will already be out by then, but we're we're actually going to go be social at the Avant social with Nick
Yeah, Nicole's in town. Yeah, we've had Justin on the show. We need Nicole on the show
I'm that's gonna talk to her about it tonight. Actually, Kate is going home. She loves Nicole. They got her along
Yeah, so we're gonna I hope she Kate's gonna join us too. So, yeah, nice
What else we got Carter on one of your tip of the week. Yeah
Boy, where do we even start with that? I had so many written down
There's I want to talk about something is this sort of a topic of the show. So it's also a tip though
There's been a there was an insider memo leaked from AutoZone. Did you see that?
There's an upcoming and the dealers have been it's been going around to dealers as well
Your hands when you go to the bathroom. Yes, that one. All right. Yeah
Then after that one another one came out that said we are going to be running low on oil
They're expecting an oil short. Oh, I didn't know that was AutoZone. I thought that was other other places to general
Okay. Yeah, like I think maybe Ferrari actually even posted one as well as far
You're it was one of the exotics thing was Ferrari or Lamborghini or something like that
Please don't turn this into a toilet paper thing where they're running low on oil
So you go out and buy all the oil, right? Even though you're not you don't need an oil change right now
If you are one of those people that changes your own oil
Costco still is plenty in stock. I would start there for your best oil deals at the best prices
They haven't got surprising at all. I was just there
I don't change the oil on anything here except the motorcycles and I have plenty of that
So I don't need to buy that
Yeah, prices are expected to rise about 20% over the next several months
So just keep that in mind if you're pushing up on an oil change now is a good time to get that done
I don't need them that often, you know, I don't just that we've the three cars
We don't end with summer coming. We don't put as many miles on the cars. We distribute the miles
I guess across them pretty evenly and I'll be riding the motorcycle more
But if you need to go get oil, yes, you should go do that now
No, you shouldn't buy it like toilet paper
You're not gonna use it and then you're just gonna sit on your shelf and it's heavy and it's it's not worth it
Just saying but you know, maybe he's now is a good time to go to your local Costco
Buy an extra one schedule that service that you were putting off with the R8
The Broncos down the Raptors down the R8 needs one and I think one of the bikes needs one, but I'll do that at home
Yeah, the whopping one quart the monkey in the grump take now two between them
Two quarts two quarts. Yeah, so just a you know, call your call your friends at Carter Automotive Group
If you're with one of those or if you got an Acura Subaru or a Volkswagen or
And you get a hold of any one of our avance partners, you know, HKP
Off top of my head
Octooning
Yeah, there's a whole whole list on there and no matter where you're at
I say you can start listening but there's hundreds of them
So there's lots of options just schedule those it now. It's a good time. We've done trip for summer anyway
And then another one I'm gonna split this into two
This is like we talked about this before the show
This could be a Carter Automotive Group tip as well, but I want to bring it up here because you brought it up
During this service for all you off-roaders out there. Yeah
Nick's discovered something and I hadn't thought about it
I think we talked about it what a manifold absolute pressure sensor is on the show
But it's right behind your airbox is that that pressure sensor and I get especially if you're an off-roader gets really dirty
I didn't even know it was a thing
One and when I got I actually got it off the Raptor form and it's four trucks like your of your size
There's three. Yeah
And there is a cleaner for it. Do not use brake cleaner. No, there is an actual cleaner for the
What did you say the manifold absolute pressure sensors what it is? Yeah
And I was surprised this lovely it was it was a tip done, you know
one of those kind of tick-tock tips or whatever that she put up on on Facebook and
She sprayed them down and there was a ton of dirt that came out of there because that
That tells your engine how much air how much fuel things like that to put in there
And if it's dirty or clogged it could be screwing up your emissions
And if you have K&N filters, which we do not recommend for off-road again, they do work
But off-road they get really dirty and they do allow more dirt to pass through if you do run one
You want to run a pre-filter but that oil from those can get on that sensor as well
And so part of that cleaning if you have K&N filters, you will need to clean this more often
There are service intervals in your you know if you look in your owner's manual about when or online at the service manual
You can see when that services do a lot of manufacturers don't always list it
But if you're in really dusty conditions very often, you're gonna want to do this
I would assume the dealerships do it. Yeah, you go in for service. I know I mean on a road car
It's really really rare, but I'm saying like on our trucks and stuff like that
I'm gonna ask you because like I said, I actually the
The rangers do for a service and the oil change service. I'm gonna see I'm gonna ask if they do it
Yeah, I'm gonna go down to my auto zone or shocks and get some try it
And you're fuel injected motorcycle probably the same way on our monkeys. Those things get
That's a little tiny thing in the intake tube
Yeah, but I haven't actually taken apart the KTM yet. So I don't exactly know the KTM. Sorry. I have no idea. Yeah
Yeah
That one, I don't know where that's it. But oh, you're talking about on the how dirty we got the monkey. Oh, yeah
Yeah, I know that one is that's easy. Yeah, so we on the monkeys the it makes a huge difference to eliminate that massive air box
Monkeys in the groms
But man, do they get dirty because behind that front wheel it just kicks them up
And I really need to 3d print a guard for the air filter just in front of it. It doesn't need to be open
It's just right behind the wheel it kicks up there
But man, we we changed it a multiple times when we were Moab and it was worth it because it got dirty real dirty very quickly
Very hot and very yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so anyway, yeah, you off-roaders and overlanders out there think about that one
That's a I totally forgot about that
So I want to talk about something obviously if you if you've been following politics like we do no
The DOT is really cracking down on a lot of these
Non CDL or CDL drivers that you can't speak English and things like yeah
Well, you all has decided to double down and they
They're now partnering with Peter built and you can get a new there's there's I'll put a photo of it
It's a Peter built truck that's a new their new you haul giant truck. It's a massive truck
It's 25999 pounds, which makes me think at 26 You probably need a CDL
You don't need a CDL to drive this which right really scares me because I've driven one of their biggest trucks across the cross
Washington and it scared the crap out of me. This is bigger. Oh, yeah, this is huge
Absolutely, I mean this is like move your mansion from from men, you know from here to somewhere else
Yeah, which I'm sure is happening a lot in Washington right now. I don't know. Yeah one shot cross-country move
Yeah, people should know these exist for a reason. It's just
That seems like a lot because I'm thinking that a whole a lot of fertilizer vehicle weight
Obviously, it's probably not the trucks a lot less than that. That's probably loaded up
But I mean you start putting I'll use myself in example fertilizer when I move I
Was gonna go in a different direction when I move I have
1,200 pound safe. Yeah, it really ups the amount of weight that I carry when I move places. So
That's to mention your toolboxes. Yeah. Oh, yeah toolbox. Well, the the safe more I
Don't think mine is I think my toolbox is it's close. We'll probably weigh more now. Yeah, it's probably close
Well, my safe's getting heavier. I don't know why it's weird heavy. Yeah more tools. It's lead
storing lead actually led
Actually lead
Some of those pieces of lead I hollow out the tips so they're lighter weight, but it doesn't
Yeah, poor little plastic in them for no god. No, no, no, that's legal. Yeah
I don't know. I don't know what is these days when you're talking about those type of things. I try not to another thing
Next really into fishing
I could tie a fly like you wouldn't believe
Another thing we've talked we've talked about on X on here a ton and I don't know if we've actually talked about this
They're kind of
Recently a lot of their influences are pushing this not pushing it but talking about it, but it's live location sharing
Yeah, I was listening to this on our friends at snail trail
Just did trail hero X really cool thing you haven't heard of it and they were talking about how they did location sharing
Yeah, and this goes in this is more relevant now than ever. So before obviously you're off-roading
Service signal is non-existent, right? You're not gonna have cell service. How useful is this? Well, everybody who knows got Starlink
Everybody knows Starlink and even on the standby plan if you're off-roading you're going about two miles an hour
Starlink keeps getting mad at me because I have it turned on or that I keep driving places
And they're like you're driving too fast because I don't have it turned on right
Yeah, but I keep getting these threatening emails from Starlink. So which by the way, they're rising the prices. Yeah
Okay, thanks jerks
But yeah, if you have somebody with Starlink set up you can all connect to that Wi-Fi
And it'll you can share your location with your friends. Yeah, so really cool feature on group rides
I was watching it on the story till now who by the way if anybody knows the story till now
I've been reaching out to him. I'd really love to have him on the show. Yeah, he's a Canadian guy
He's just up in Vancouver, but he comes down here all the time great guy
But him and his buddy had the maps up and they were they were both driving up different trails to get to somewhere to see
Which he would get there first and that you could see in both which is kind of neat
I thought was kind of a fun thing. So yeah, that's a great. I'm I have been pushing on on X
To get a road version
Yeah, you really need to have a road version and I've like you guys have cornered the market on off-roading
Basically, even if people who don't like on X you have to kind of admit they basically cornered the market and own the market on the off-roading software and mapping
Yeah
For now, so they need to develop a road software
Just so this is another one of my life my body my car stay away from it
recently
The DOG DOJ ordered Apple Google to hand over OBD to app user data and emissions probe easy
It's called easy link sells an OBD to device that some customers deploy to defeat their vehicles emission systems
That's a bad bad
And the feds want access to more than a 100000 a 100000 user data so they can investigate
This is this is a real dark gray area. I mean, this is an orange. Yeah, they go overstep
Obviously of the official view of the show is you never override your emissions. You should never do that. That's bad
It's just like putting farm gas in your truck and driving it on the road. It's bad
Dan says we should ban the EPA entirely. Yeah, I don't disagree, but
It seems like this is this is they're gonna push more and more into your
And you're driving this is the long the lines the same thing of the insurance companies, you know taking your data from your phone
You know or when they go, oh put our app on your on your your phone
And you know make sure you turn everything off
But this is just more monitoring they can see what you're doing and things like that and obviously
Yes, these people are using something to break
The law I'm using that term in a gray area. I want to say but yeah, if you by the way, I did find a way around this that works
Legally, I'm not just if you if you have an insurance company that says hey you get a discount with our app
Just install it on your iPad. Yeah, get a pad
You know any iPad go find one that the cheapest one on Facebook that'll actually load an app put it on there
Go drive with around take few trips because they usually require a minimum of I think 50 trips or something like that
Which is really easy to do and then just get rid of it
It's well worth the cost lawyers for easy link had and I want to quote this these requests are for potentially hundreds of
Thousands of people go well beyond the needs of this case and create serious privacy concerns. It does so
And and you're going well they're requesting it they're gonna get it
And yeah, they're gonna subpoena it and there may not be going after those 100000 people
But this is the start of it to say that they're watching it. Yeah, so your data is not as private as you think
This is not a a sales pitch. This is not a an anti-government thing. This is just a this is happening
We've talked about this stuff. It's gonna continue to happen
The more robotics we get in our car the more AI we get in our car the less our data is private
Yeah, it's I mean it's been proven time and time again with
GMC have their big thing
They were selling user-dated insurance companies for it's probably doing it to everybody's probably doing it don't don't kid yourself
And they're like, no my company's great. No, they're not there. I signed that little piece of paper that said they couldn't yeah, so they they're not
That's right. Yeah, totally safe. Yep. I'll keep older cars on the road
It's a great time to buy that 90s OBD to no sat nothing car
K-Truck
Yeah, K-Truck not quite that vehicle I would worry about my data being slipped in
I think I'm slowly cracking my wife on that because I was talking about I was like I need I think I may need one of these
One of these days she goes well it would fit in the garage and I was like that is not the answer
I was expecting but okay, it would fit really well in the garage would fit in the garage
I would be a place to store the monkey. So technically I would be saving space. The nice thing about K-Trucks is they're really cute
They really are so I think but I think I need the problem is I want the Subaru
Yeah, and those are more expensive because they're a little bit more and I want to stick so yeah
Yeah, yeah, this is quite a bit more power. Yeah. Yeah, I really want with the dump bed
I mean dump bed or the ones with the beds come down this slide. They fold down on both sides
I think they all fold down in the edges
But you actually want to dump it. I want a dump bed because I want I'm thinking like I want a farm truck
Yeah, I get loaded up go to the dump literally dump stuff. So do I I want a farm truck because I live on a farm farm
I know you you have a farm therefore I need a farm truck
I feel like there's a bunch of forms nobody would check that you could easily make that a farm truck and get some other taxing tax
I mean
Small, you know eco-friendly farming, right exactly put a firebed out back on the side
Just as eco farmer and then probably get some
Red diesel
Gas can not in the vehicle. Yeah, I gotcha for all those diesel powered weed eaters you have. Yeah, that's right. Mm-hmm. Okay
Yeah
So I think I just the tractor. I don't think I have anything else diesel anymore. I miss it
I've been going back and forth the Shawna about the truck
About diesel okay because that a big conversation in your home is diesel it is actually the reason being is we don't really need the Raptor
We talked about it feels okay first of all this is your household you need to clarify that
I know what you mean, but there are two Raptors sitting your driver, right?
We need the we need the Bronco. Okay, that's not going anywhere the Broncos only going away for another Bronco. Oh got it
Yeah, that's the only reason that's going anywhere and we're talking about Broncos here in a second as well
But we keep going back to the diesel conversation
It's so great to pull with the diesel like I don't think people understand like yes
We could pull our trailer easily
I could put the air shocks in the back of the air springs in the back of the Raptor in and out in an hour and
Toe that trailer just fine. It'll do it. It's really not designed for it, but it works. It's not a big deal
With a diesel you don't even know the trailers back there like that the Ford is the king right now with 1200 foot-pounds of torque the
GMC I think have like
1100 some of your truck with the trailer it doesn't you're like what trailer?
Yeah
90 miles an hour no problem. Yeah, like it doesn't it's so nice to drive a full-size full-size
You know super-duty, you know actual three-quarter ton or higher truck and pull a trailer
It really makes a massive difference
There's a bunch of people every time I see comments about people talking about diesel and how big they are
People like nobody needs a truck that big. This is stupid people are gonna control
I'm like you have never towed shit in your life because you wouldn't know how much better it is
Yes, and a half-ton can pull a trailer all day long within the weight limit. It's not a problem. It's so much better
It is amazing and so we go back and forth all the time like well
I could just get rid of the Raptor save some money get a regular F 150 even a platinum because I could get like a
One-year-old or two-year-old platinum
Every option I'd probably save like 30 grand really. That's a huge difference. They're they're close and MSRP new
But the used market on the Raptors is night and day
You'd walk they'd give you money. Yeah, they literally give me money to take one
Yeah, and so I'm like man, that would be you know, I could free up some cash
I don't really need it if I want to go off-road the Broncos obviously the choice
then I'm just like
Even she drove the GMC pull in the trailer. She's like this is easy like any concern
She had over polo trailers like whatever it goes away
But your issue was not that it was a diesel your issue was that it was GMC and there were some oh, yeah
I'm not gonna buy another GMC. I
Did like the independent front suspension, but everything else. I'm just not a fan. I like their Colorado's and things like that
But their diesels are
Yeah, but GMC's it's not the diesel. It's the systems in the vehicle that are just subpar to other rents. I mean, this is an easy choice
F-250 a EV with 40s
Right, that's what I'm saying Ryan. Why did you have to send that video to us?
By the way, I was in a bad mood when he sent that to me. So I didn't I did not want to see that he was down at that
Overland expo land expo. Yeah
So I keep looking at the f-250s and I'm not even looking at tremors because I don't care if that it just doesn't make sense to
Spend the money like it looks okay, but I don't actually care at all
Yeah, I just like just give me a something 33 is it rather have the mileage actually and the come more comfortable ride
So so so the question is this and not that you can do this now
But what what do you have that if somebody said Dan?
I need you to go to downtown Seattle and meet me there or something like that
Bronco the Bronco won't fit in any absent. I I don't fit in garages downtown the Bronco can't fit
When is the last time I went to Seattle went down? I'm just saying so
Situations like that. I know you don't do that, but I'm saying if you needed like you get an f-250
That's gonna be a long truck. You're not gonna be taking that and parking it
You know in even downtown North Bend would be tough to park it. No, it was never a problem around here
Um
It like the the AEV package I had on that thing would not fit in most of us
I'm saying yeah, but even a stock
Ford f-250 is gonna be a really it's gonna be a longer truck. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's like three feet longer. Yeah. Yeah
It's quite a bit longer. It's three feet a lot. I don't know. Is that a lot?
Some people okay good. Yeah, no, I mean the Bronco fits most that bill and the places don't fit
I just don't go honestly. It's weird as that sounds. It's really not that limiting to me and in my lifestyle
It would be if I was going downtown a lot, but I mean we go to downtown
Seattle for well, and I'm thinking Bellevue one reason
I mean, yeah, and they go I've been to Bellevue downtown maybe twice in the last three years
Oh, I don't go. I there are we know which garages to park in we park to take the Bronco down there all the time
Which is easy to fit there's certain garages we do and we don't fit in but it's just something you think about
And it's really not a big inconvenience just because of what we do like if we have time we go do other things
So I don't know I don't want to spend the money. That's the main thing right now
Especially right now, but especially on our diesel
But there are good deals to be out on diesel's right now
You find a used 250 could you do the same thing you're thinking with the F the F 150 and yeah used one
Yeah, I've been and look at it like I said when you get out of the specialty packages when I get away from the tremors and when I get
away from
Those like the those high-demand models there's quite a bit of space
Okay, basically basically the farm spec
Well, no, I would still get a platinum because I want the max recline seats. Oh, okay. There's well just because they're way more comfortable
Yeah, so I oh that's right. I keep forgetting you're towing with it like the yeah, it's like Arizona
Okay, that yeah, we're talking like 16 hour days some days. So that's where it's all
Cloth no window tint
Still a great truck. No great. Yeah, but I'm saying yeah in there. Yeah. Yeah, okay the standard F 250. Okay. Yeah
But speaking of Broncos
Eddie Bauer is no more Eddie Bauer sadly has gone out of business. I think they still might have an online business
Howard his last Eddie. Yeah, Eddie Bauer is no more
So there are no more Eddie Bauer
Expeditions and there hasn't been for a long time hasn't been for a long time because they put them on the explorers
They put them on the expeditions in the Broncos. Did they have them on the Broncos? Yeah, okay
Eddie Bauer Bronco was definitely a thing recently. No, no, no, no the old the last
OJ Broncos the OJ. Oh, that's right. Okay. Yes, definitely those. Yeah, so I mean and obviously Ford does this
I because the Harley Davidson edition trucks. They've had their Chevy's got a Harley Davidson edition truck now, too
Really? I'm pretty sure that I saw yeah, surprise Harley still in business, too
But people always buy those bikes. I've looked at those bikes and thought that'd be nice to ride like comfortable and music and
Yeah, I'm like so it a convertible though. Yes, it's very true. Okay. Yeah, but
So turns out Ford is doing this again with Philson
And it's a really nice looking Bronco. It's I like that. I love seeing things like this
I think a lot of us look fondly back on the Eddie Bauer versions of those those things and I'm glad to see
They're doing it again. It's sort of like a the one they showed is sort of like the park ranger special kind of scheme
Okay, very outdoorsy
Oh, yeah
Wow Harley Davidson official Harley Davidson GMC truck, which is red and black trim and looks like a Harley truck
I was like, I swear to God. It's not okay. That's funny. Yeah, so we have a Philson edition coming out. That'll be cheap
Everything from Philson is cheap. Right. I love Philson stuff by the way. Yeah, it's you know, it's just a trim package
It's just some cool, but I like when manufacturers do this. I mean, I don't it's not really for me
But I like when I see partnerships and automotive
Cadillac did Gucci back in the day
I'm trying to think some of their famous partnerships. There's been a bunch
Porsche did one with a product. I think
Yeah, we've got he's done it with everybody. Yeah one-offs
Or man's and all that I feel like we're missing something. That's so obvious. Oh, I'm sure there's lots of these though
Trek oh, that's right. What was the music brand? They were was it kicker? No
Fender fender. Yeah fender fender sound systems. Yeah. Yeah, okay. Yeah, and I would love me those Trek
Jettas were awesome back in the day. I was riding mountain bikes then that was yeah, that was really cool back then
Yeah, okay. I like seeing these partnerships. I like seeing that they come up with summer hit and summer miss didn't offer a
Fiat did one was it Gucci with Fiat recently? Yeah, Gucci was with Fiat or Gucci ish. I think it was good. Yeah, I think you're right
You know, anyway, I like seeing little one-off stuff. It's cool to see Philson and Ford partnering
It's nice to see an off-road or an outdoor brand. I don't think
Philson's based from here. Yeah. Yeah, I like a lot of their stuff
But I wish it was more of an outdoor brand in the sense of like Eddie Bauer
If you know the history of Eddie Bauer was a really true
Mount nearing brand to its core and even till they went out of business. They had really nice mountaineering gear
It's a bad-ass cowboy brand those those wax jackets like oh, they make nice stuff. No, I make really nice stuff
It's just that there's not quite the same man's man shit. Yeah
Yeah, oh and then Ford also has a car heart
Partnership with the super duties that makes sense and it looks really good. Like I see it's made out of like car heart
Like I mean, yeah cards are some of my favorite pair of pants. Yeah
Okay. Yeah, so it's nice to see this stuff coming around. That's all I'm saying. It's cool stuff
We launched the new episode today, obviously and people are starting to comment on on the most
Overrated cars and things like that. I have not looked yet. I've been so busy. What have we heard?
Hadn't picked up my phone yet. Hold on. Okay. Well, there's I got another text message while we wait
So just listen to laxies last week's episode once upon a time
2007 I stumbled upon a 1995 Volvo 850 T5 R. Oh, that's a little awesome. Yeah, awesome wagon
That's definitely on the list of cars. I've always wanted to have
It was a it was on a buy here pay here lot in Vanoy, California
They had no idea what they had so I was more than happy to pay the $4,500 asking price. Yeah
The following weekend driving it back home to Phoenix while going through the Coachella Valley with practically Gale Forge wins at my back
I got up to 131 only slowing down because people going in the direction were flashing their lights warning about the cops ahead
Certainly not completely insane, but given that I was driving a brick. I wasn't mad about it
Drove it for two and a half more years and never got it that fast again, but that is a that's a great story
Nathan months had commented on the fact of the most overrated cars was the the NAS Land Rover Defender
He's like the original ones. He says they're cracked inside. They ride terribly. They're slow. They get terrible fuel economy
They're noisy the seats the general ergonomics are atrocious the heater is asthmatic
Electronics issues are the norm and they are incredibly unsafe
Yeah, don't hold back. Tell me what you think. Yeah, I know I knew a guy
who had two of the
Two defenders 90s defenders and he was always one of the best designs ever
And he always laughed at how in demand that vehicle was and how terrible was the try?
Just it leaked everywhere all the time
And if you're wondering the bicep that we're talking about
Freddie Prince Jr. drove a yellow one. Oh, yeah
She's all that or something like that the one where he takes the ugly girl and makes her pretty
Yeah, yeah, you know Paul Walker's a dick. Yeah, that one. That defender. Yeah. Oh, this is funny
So other good news congratulations or shout out to Megan for four to six horizon. Oh, man. Yeah, and we are all in love
Congratulations, those of us that can play it. Yeah, it's true. Sorry, Nick
I talked to you about that by the way. Yeah, Metacritic score 92 which
for those and everywhere across the board people are saying it's probably the best four is a horizon of all time and
Map the Japan looks amazing. Yeah, it's it's a huge map. It's beautiful. They have an insanely good collection of cars
I love that people are still customizing them in
offensive ways
Somebody posted the other day as his tradition and posted a 458 with a parlorie
Immediately and it's going all over social media just a piss-off Ferrari, which I love
Josh messaged me today. He's it's a happy birthday Josh Hansen today is his birthday photographer. We've
Ws six we talked about in the last show
Good dude helps us out a lot. So he goes he took an extended Memorial Day weekend for his birthday
So he's been playing a bunch of Forza Horizon 6
Apparently they have a team's call as a ringtone as a horn teams call ringtone as a horn
The sheer panic as I searched for my phone with someone in my friend's convoy. I was in Houston
That is so mean yeah
Yeah, giving us all PTSD from the game, but there's so many fun little quirks in that you can do
Crosstown delivery like food delivery and they're adding a bunch of more content
You race one of the giant robots to yeah, yeah, you can race a Gundam. Yeah, that's what okay. Yeah, and then there's
You can destroy basically anything in the game, but you the cherry trees are pretty sacred in Japan
And so you can't run him over. It was a crash your car. So okay
I love the little tidbits like that but the that in the last game where there were certain trees you could hit
But bigger ones you couldn't yeah, I understand specifically the cherry trees in this one
But we're finding more and more to love about it every time I play it and it's
Absolutely beautiful a lot of people are going that's just a photo mode because of how pretty the game is but the reviews are overwhelmingly positive
They kind of set a new standard people are paying a lot for it for the deluxe editions and things like that
But it's been worth it. So, you know when you build something that's worth it people will pay for it
So congrats to Forza. They're they're close to us and we know of course
Everybody knows Megan is on that team as well and she had a lot to doing she had a huge role in delivering the content
We all love in that game and that's working with the brand partnerships and things like that
So if you see her you talk to her give her a thanks if you're a big gamer because
Listen for us. Yeah. Yeah, it's a small world over in the gaming industry as much as you think
You know forza huge massive game studio and you know, they're one of the bigger ones
But it's still small those matters to those people when you tell them thanks because that's a lot of hard work on their side
Yeah, they delivered an awesome product amazing. Yeah. Yeah, so you should go play it
But you might need a new Xbox or really high-end PC to get the most out. I had no idea. Yeah, I didn't either. I
I
Have the original Xbox one X one X. Yeah, and it
Hey, you got a new one. You got a new S or an X but to get the full out of it. You need the newest X. Yeah
Oh, there there's a new X. Oh, yeah, the newest X. I'm not my ex. Okay. Yeah. Well, obviously
Yeah, that's something I need to figure out because obviously I'm not a big gamer
But I want to play this game and I definitely want to play great GTA 6 when it comes out
So yes, I'm gonna need I'll probably have to do some upgrading. So yeah, yeah, and you know people are complaining about consoles right now
Sony
Bump the price of the ps5 up to the highest everything at $600 for ps5
As much as I want to say that's so expensive now
It's really not if you look at the cost of gaming systems when they came out Super Nintendo Nintendo things like that
If you look just for inflation, we're actually still about the same bracket
It's mostly the storage right because you got terabytes of storage in it now. It's storage RAM processors. Everything's just super expensive to create
Nobody's got any RAM
Nobody's got any SSDs. So those consoles are expensive to produce and everybody knows it's not a secret that
Microsoft and Sony don't actually make very much money out of the consoles. They make almost none. In fact, Microsoft's famous for
Launching at a net loss. They're virtually still operating on that model. There's almost no profit margin consoles
It's all in the gaming titles. I think they'll survive. Yeah, I think they'll be okay
But yeah, as much as we want to complain about it
I mean if you try and build a PC to run at those specs, you're gonna be and I know this first-hand experience
You're gonna be about 2400 bucks. Yeah, so
That's not gonna include the monitors you need to buy and things like that. Yeah, yeah, that's just you know the video card alone
I mean
When I was fortunate enough to buy a 5070 Ti
Before they skyrocketed in price that was $800 and that was a deal now
They're about a thousand bucks. So and that's not even you know, that's not top tier a 5090 system is gonna run you
3500 bucks minimum. I like how you're looking at me like I know anything that you're talking about like. Oh, yeah, it's true
Ti
He's a great rapper
Hard to get him in that computer case, but yeah, this is still in jail for weapons charges
Yes
Anyway, yeah
Yeah, no, it's it's a good time to be a gamer. There's a lot of really great games out right now
I agree. That's really good stuff. And yeah, GTA 6 on the way
but there's a lot of like we've been playing it's an older game, but we've been playing days gone and
I love single-player story-driven stuff. It's like a really long movie for me and
Sean has been playing it religiously and I just like to watch and listen to the story and see where it goes
The writing is fantastic. So it's always fun to find older games like that. You guys got through all the Fallout stuff, right?
Oh, yeah, and then some and the expansions and
120 gigabytes and mods. Yeah
All right, starting to geek out. We gotta get back to cars. Yeah. Yeah, can I put an Xbox in a car? Oh god, yeah
Easier than ever now. I think I put a ps2 in my my Subaru wagon
I put a ps2 in my golf or GTI
337 edition
Everybody wondered why I didn't hook up that one wire where the TV wouldn't work unless the emergency brake was pulled out
Yeah, it's weird. I don't know. Yeah, nothing will make you more nauseous than try and play a driving game from the passenger seat
I mean obviously not what driving but like as a passenger while someone else is driving. It's like instant vomit inducing
Middle of the night
Driving to the lock saw lock saw river to go rafting
Mm-hmm in my Subaru and the two guys in the car were watching fear and loathing in Las Vegas and we're in a dark canyon
Oh god, so that I don't know how I didn't kill us
Because I stopped and it was so dark on this canyon road that when when they were watching in the car
It was lighting up the canyon walls coming out of the car. So and I was trying to drive
The batsman the bats
Country yeah
Do you request do you know we've been we've been posing a question to everybody every week last week was the most overrated car
Do you have one for this week or like that one? Let's talk about you know, let's go back to the video game thing
Mm-hmm. What is your favorite driving video game?
Need for speed underground is a big one outrun
Outruns actually great one if you want to go way back stuff like that
I think what was the one in all arcades that had four steering wheels
It was the off-road truck one for Toyota. Oh, what was that? Was that was it off-road or something? Yeah
It was oh, yeah, the Ivan Ironman Stewart
Off-road something for the wheels would just yeah, those are awesome. It's like the wheels and drivers head and
Well, basically what those were I remember how those worked actually is if you think about a mouse
Yeah, it was basically just that ball on top of a steering shaft
Oh, okay, and so you would just spin it and it would spin the ball in the mouse
It's really his simple setup, but it worked. It worked. Yeah, it was a super fun game
Poor guy that probably had to come in and clean those. I remember cleaning those ball mouses. Yeah
I'm gonna go with um, I
Think the most fun I've had playing a driving game is actually was forza horizon. Yeah
Pick one that was probably because I I like more arcade stuff than simulator stuff
I just think it's more fun for me to play but Grand Theft Auto
Driving around was so fun still is if you play five
Grand Turismo though really set the standard when it came out
Gran Turismo got too complicated for me. Oh, yeah, the car setup mattered. Yeah
I got it got it took a little bit of the fun out of it. Like I mean, I had it
I had the PS 2 or 3 or whatever it was and it got to the point where it was just
Even with a wheel and everything I wasn't winning races because I at the time and again, I probably don't know now
It was the setup like I mean, oh, yeah, it set up your suspension tire pressures your tire
Yeah, this is a true simulator and you know, we talked about it a long time ago
Like the they had the Gran Turismo Academy
Those guys went and we're actually racers. Yeah, there's a whole movie about the one guy
It's a great movie. Actually should check it out if you haven't
But yeah, I'm trying to think I mean open the open concept of horizon six the last one or this this six
Five yeah, five was fantastic
Yeah, there was four was the outback five was England. I think five was
Australia no Australia was four
This last one was England. Oh, okay. I'm pretty sure. Yeah. No, I should know this
Yeah, we should
Or was three the outback four was England and then five was the the island
Like the tropical island. Yeah four is a horizon locations
55 was Mexico. Oh, I was a great four was the UK three was Australia
Two is southern France northern Italy and then horizon the original was Colorado. That's right. Okay, six now Japan
Okay, so we came up with that right off the bat. We didn't have there was no editing in that
So yeah, we know right away. We knew immediately the end to spit it out, right? I know these things. Yep. It's the implant
Alright, yeah, so I mean give us your answer. What's your favorite racing game? Yeah current driver on the Commodore 64
All right, well, let's wrap up this week's episode as always I'm Nick and I'm Dan and don't just get there. Enjoy the drive
About this episode
Road-trip impressions kick things off, from a digital dash that “comes up right in front of you” to lease-return “normal wear and tear” allowances. The conversation then turns practical and a little ominous: an insider memo claims dealers are “going to be running low on oil,” so they advise timing an oil change before prices rise. Off-road maintenance gets technical with MAP sensors and air filtration, then the hosts pivot to Starlink connectivity and emissions/OBD bypass talk. Later, they discuss Bronco fitment, a Filson partnership, and Forza Horizon 6’s Japan map.
It’s that time again—Forza Horizon 6 has officially dropped, and somehow it’s even better than the hype. Nick is now in the market for a new Xbox, while Dan is fully locked in—couch-bound and completely obsessed. And honestly? It’s justified. The latest Forza is absolutely stunning and might just be one of the best arcade racing experiences we’ve ever seen.
On the automotive side, Ford unveils the new Filson Edition Bronco—a collaboration that feels like a perfect match of rugged capability and outdoor style. It may not be the classic Eddie Bauer partnership, but it definitely brings its own kind of legacy energy.
Meanwhile, things are getting interesting in the world of oil. With several retailers warning about a potential shortage, DIY enthusiasts might want to stock up sooner rather than later—Costco runs might be in your near future.
