Um, you guys got to do what?
So for our listeners who have not been to this summit point, which was us until we went
there.
What do you think?
Um, it was quite flat.
Um, I can't say, I mean, there were some sloping, but you know, not much.
It was a good track.

I thought it was fun to drive.

It was, it was a little scary because of the animals, but it was a fun track.
Donnie took care of the animals for us.
We didn't have to worry about anything.
He did.
Mm-hmm.
But there were animals.
There were.

I heard of a, uh, reports of a gopher running in front of, uh, Black Betty.
I saw a fox that was, seemed to be trapped between the wall and the track.
We had a listener right in.
They wanted to know, what did the fox say?
Haha.
I don't get the noise.
Nothing.
I can't tell post-race hangovers real for these two.
All right.
I'm going to pull in teeth here.
Um, okay.
So, uh, we drove in the Honda.
Honda was rebuilt for this race.
Long, long awaited.
And, uh, had some issues.
Maybe.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, the car went in with, um, with throttle body issues and thought we
solved the throttle body.
Um, we also had a cracked, um,
air intake manifold, which I ended up replacing.
Um, and we thought that we had the throttle body, uh, straightened out.
Uh, but even the one that we took off the donor car didn't work properly.
So we're kind of curious if it's a wiring issue, a harness issue.
We're not exactly sure where it was a throttle position sensor.
We're going to try to trade out the throttle position sensor, um,
just in case, uh, before we go ahead and do a whole new throttle body.
Um, so, but, uh, there was,
I, some stuff was missing a couple of bolts were missing, you know,
got that straightened out.
Um, but I mean, in, in, in reality, this was the first run slash test run
post crash.
So I'm not saying that the car was there to race.
It was more of a, okay, let's get it on track and figure out what's
going on to kind of straighten it out.
Mm hmm.
So let's go with the, the bad.
Uh, what, uh, what issues did we have?
Well, the big one besides the throttle body was the rear mount bolt was
missing engine mount bolt.
It just wasn't there, which made no sense because it was there.
So I have no idea where it could have gone.
I don't know if something happened between when maybe the, um,
the body shop was straightening it out.
If they did a couple of things to it, I don't know.
It was kind of weird, but I was also, when I got it back,
I was also missing a bolt.
These were big bolts.
These were major bolts that were missing.
And, um, another one, the other bolt that was missing was the
control arm bolt that went into the frame, the upper control arm
went into the frame.
That is like a six inch bolt where that could have gone.
I have no idea.
Didn't remove it.
Didn't know what happened to it, but I got that off of the
donor car.
So I got that.
And I thought everything was all straightened out.
I even have Jeremy go over the car and straighten everything out.
And it wasn't until we're kind of shifting and like, we're just
getting a lot of play in the, in the, the, you know, in the gear,
not the gearbox, but like the shifting area.
And that's what Chris was saying.
He goes, well, it sounds like it's the rear engine mount bolt.
So we went in there.
It's like, it's not even there.
Like where could it have gone?
So, um, it was there.
I don't know.
So there was that.
And then I think other than that was maybe, and these were bolts
that you don't normally check.
But the other one, there are no bolts that you don't normally
check.
Well, the thing is, is with that particular one is that if you
want to properly check it, you really have to remove stuff
to get to it.
It's not an easy bolt to go in there and just check the brake
caliper.
Oh, I don't know about the brake.
Yeah, the brake caliper.
I don't know what happened to that one either.
So the brake caliper bolt came loose because I know that I
put that in.
I know I put that in right.
So maybe I just didn't torque it properly, but that one
kind of shifted, but we fixed that one correctly.
So we got that one done.
I got, I got one more for you.
And the other bolt that was, oh, the other one that was
loose was up in the, it was, it was the steering wheel.
That was, that was just weird.
That wasn't a bolt.
No, that just wasn't put on properly.
But no, the other one was, what was it?
The shock up underneath where the frame is underneath was
loose.
It kind of, so we had to go in there.
We had tightened that.
So, so I guess that the car was kind of being adjusted, you
know, along the way, but we got all that kind of squared
away.
And some of that stuff you really wouldn't have known
until you actually put it on track, you know.
We got to fix that.
Yeah.
We do, we do, but, you know, for the amount of time that
we had, I mean, I literally opened the shop in August and
I was still trying to do a bunch of repairs to it.
But, you know, I was running out of time and just
sent it out to a shop towards the end, you know, and
they helped me get some stuff done.
So Jen, how was it to drive a race car without a
steering wheel?
Was that fun?
It was, it was pretty surreal actually.
It's going around that corner and it's like, why isn't it
turning?
I'm going straight and I'm turning it and I realize it's
not attached.
So the steering wheel had, okay, so the steering wheel
is going to be changed out.
That what I, that I really don't like and I've
never liked that attachment that goes, the quick
attach.
Never liked that one.
It was attached to the roof.
I drove how many laps around there before.
And you weren't the only one, you know, it went
through like the whole freaking test day, right?
I think that was on test day.
Was it on test day?
Mm-hmm.
Oh, so, but, you know, the one thing is, is that
the quick attach to the steering wheel is a spin.
You kind of put on there and you have to go
behind the steering wheel and you have to spin it
and then it kind of locks in.
But the one that I have on the Miata, you squeeze it
and it pops off and then you kind of put it on
and you turn it and it locks in.
I don't, I really don't like the attachment,
the quick, the quick release.
Because it's not quick release.
And even the people that came to put the steering
wheel back on, they couldn't get it back on.
It's not an easy piece.
Quick is, there's nothing quick about it.
It's nothing quick.
So that's going to be one process I think we're going to do
is just get rid of that particular attachment.
Yeah.
Yeah, eventually.
I mean, it went on eventually.
It's not, it's not easy though, is it?
No.
It's like a puzzle.
Yeah, and I don't even know how I did it.
I was just kept fooling with it.
Yeah.
And then eventually, you know, it slipped in.
But yeah, there were four of us that were trying
to get it in there.
Nobody can figure it out.
So if anybody has a quick release that they like
for their Honda Civic or other small car garages
and training at gmail.com, we need to find one
because this is not good.
I mean, we got very lucky it came off where it did.
Yeah.
So, but I would have to say all in all
that the car does need adjustments.
It does need a few more things,
but it ran all weekend.
It just ran super rich.
And it didn't have any didn't have a lot of power
because I think at one point we even traded
out the ECU because we're trying to get the car
to throw codes as an OBD-1.
So I kept trying to get the car to throw a code
and it wouldn't throw codes.
So we end up trading out the ECU.
And, you know, it finally did start throwing
a code, which was, you know, it ended up
being in the throttle body.
Throttle position sensor.
Yeah.
So, you know, that's we needed that to happen
so we can figure out what's going on with the car.
But that was kind of like really strange
that was kind of happening.
So it wouldn't be until we actually drove
the car to figure out, you know, these things
because, you know, when you have these type of cars,
the only way you can really test them is at an HPDE
or a track day, you know, or test day.
There's no other place to really kind of work them out.
So, you know, but the car ran all weekend.
So that was, that was okay.
It didn't went well.
It's just a race.
And you know what?
Yeah.
And we have a nice little checklist for next year.
And that's what we went for with that car, really.
Mm-hmm.

You can't place the whole front end and expect for it
to just go in there and just be a winner.

kind of a co-lab.
And we were greatly outnumbered because they had more people.
But that's okay.

Jeff was the non sequitur dude from all across the podcast,
I mean all across the race.
Chrissy was another airline stewardess.
She was the one who went across the plane
asking if anybody here was a race car driver.

to such a level that even though the weather was very nice
for the weekend, it was a little chilly though.
When I was groping him, his nipples were diamonds.
They were ridiculous.
And I nearly cut myself through my Mickey Mouse hands
for my Sonic the Hedgehog hands.
And what were you, Bill?
Oh, that's right.
I was autopilot.
So I literally, as part of our theme,
I had to grop people the entire weekend.
And you did well?

There was a couple instances where I was...
There was requested groping of people where I was
slightly uncomfortable, especially since both of them...
Well, on one instance, they were both like 16-year-old girls
and I was being told to go do it by their father,
one of their fathers.
And I was like, um, no, no, no, no, no.
And then he said, no.
And I'm like, okay, then you're coming too.
And then I kept everything above the equator,
well above the equator, above the shoulders, actually.
So I figured, why risk anything?
I think we converted the entire paddock
into our little personal airport
and we did quite well.
Ladies' highlights for the weekend,
for the theming aspect.
I thought all the skits were...
Yeah, we had a lot of skits.
Such as?
The Girl Scouts were really funny.
Vicki and Chrissy at the morning meeting was really funny.
Mm-hmm.
Ethel Merman was hilarious.
Okay.
So Vicki and Chrissy were acting as flight attendants
in the tech briefing for the driver's meeting
and then Eric pretended to be a Girl Scout
because obviously Eric's a Girl Scout
and Chrissy was a Girl Scout
and they did the reenacted the Girl Scout fight scene
and both of those were posted videos
on the Instagrams.
So that was fun.
Anything else sticking out from the weekend?
No, I went about a cart with,
don't call me Shirley Temple's,
hanging and handing out peanuts and pretzels.
Yes.
Yes, I did that too.
Yes, we went to the potluck
and then post-potluck festivities.
Mm-hmm.
Did you get roped into the karaoke set?
That was in one of the places
or did you manage to avoid that?
No, no, I avoided that.
I had work to do.

I was handing out peanuts.

and drink their own as long as they contain vodka.

You know, if we need to clean the windows,
we'll just use vodka next time, because you know what?

So ladies, how'd the race go?
What do we come in?
I think we're in the forties.
I'll look it up while your while your van.
Our car had no power.
None.
None.
And it was fine.
It was just the computer was confused, you know,
and just the setup with the throttle body positioner.
But the thing ran.
But I gotta tell you, for the most part,
I got on that front straight.
And that's what Chris was saying.
Yeah.
When, you know, when he says you don't need fifth gear,
I mean, you can rev that thing out to like, you know, 6,000.
More than that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was like 6,000, 6,800.
You know, you don't really need it, but I gotta tell you,
my foot was to the freaking floor.
I believe that is what is called in the technical space
flat out.
It was flat out.
And I still was being passed.
Man.
Yeah.
So there, there is definitely some work, you know,
for that to be done.
But I think the throttle pipe positioner,
it really was running super rich.
And we left, we left carbon deposits on the parking lot.
Yeah.
And Chris, you know, come over and you know, was just saying,
yeah, it was going to run, but it's, you know,
you're not going to have much power until you get this
straightened out.
I'm like, yeah.
So it was nice to run that track for the first time and
not.
I will say we used more gas than we've ever used in that
car.
So I did, I did spin out on track and it was in first.
I did.
I wouldn't say.
Why are you in first?
No, the first turn, first turn, turn one,
turn one and I had to come in.
And instead of being lectured, I stopped by the
paddock and in the one scene, in the one scene about a
panicked woman in the movie airplane, you know,
normally back then it was like, oh, you know,
snap out of it, snap out of it.
And then the woman would slap was, you know,
woman slapped her and, you know, to kind of come out
of it.
And then another one came up and shook and then
slapped her and then another one.
And if as they go down the line, they're all
carrying more heavy duty stuff to hit this woman
with.
I was that woman and my team lined up with wrenches
and a rock and they were like, snap out of it woman.
When I was, when I was in the pit and Randy
Bish, who was, who was judging, he goes, I got
nothing.
Go on.
Get out of here.
I think, I think we may have broken Bish.
I think we did break.
Well, you know what it was, was that's one of
Bish's favorite movies.
We didn't know that going in, but.
No, we did not, but he's like every frickin.
They're doing every frickin skit.
He didn't say, except they didn't say frickin.
It's really funny.
When they broke out singing Ethel Merman,
he just, he just put his hands in his face
and just looked up at the ceiling and
started laughing.

It was a little more animated than that,
but that's about all the energy you have.
It was pretty funny.
So all together, the, the team with our
three Puddle Mafia friends, we won the
Halloween in Miss Ghastly.

We had, we had two different themes this
year just to be clear.

We went hard on this one because it was
one of those themes that you needed to

So speaking of things that we do right,
you know how as a team, we like to get
new people out on the racetrack and we
like to help people get better in racing
and whatever.
So, so let's look at the teams that
we've helped recently get better.
Some new teams, new two racing teams.
We came in 41st.
The Queershifting Gears car came in
43rd.

What do you mean how?
They came in 43rd and we came in 41st.
Yeah.
Their, their car ran smooth
and they were quick.
But I think they could even hot pit.
They were go, they were, no.
That was probably it.
They were changing drivers in the
in the paddock too.
Like, and that's that you would think
that that would have slowed them down
a lot more, but they did.
They were awesome.

They really did so well this weekend.

we were 93rd fastest
and they wanted to put us in B.

this weekend?

So I went off, but I don't know if I ever got a black flag
because I just came under myself.

Well, I came in and you're like,
well, they didn't even call you in.

Pit stops went pretty well.
We did draft one of the queer shifting gears.
People to go out there and, you know,
they actually experienced what doing a pit stop
in Pit Lane was like.
I don't know why they don't do that.
They were so helpful this weekend.
They were.
You know what also is that they had one new driver.
And I think
for them, they were
more pulling than they were racing.
Sure.
So they did a lot of sim racing
with training,
which is why they knew the track so well.
And
I believe that they had the one new
driver and
they were bringing them in.
I think they were running like every
half hour to 45 minutes just
to work themselves up.
So they weren't they weren't so much
there to compete as much as they were
taking care of the car.
And they had some car stuff that they were working on too.
Just some minor stuff.
But I got to say, I was so proud of them
because their last time that we had run
in with them
was at pit
and they had
one of their guys just
just full blown
smashed into and just
stuffed it right into
somebody on like turn five
or turn two. I forget
I think it was turned two.
Oh, but it was terrible.
It was really
rough.
But they did so well this time around.
I was so proud of them.
They're going to come on and we're going to talk about
first year
racing and how lessons learned
things like that. So that'll be fun.
Apologize to all the teams. We did see some
of you. We did not see all of you.
We did make a better
showing, but we were
theming so hard and fighting the car a little bit
so we did not get there. And I know that
the ladies are still feeling the effects
and it's what is it? Tuesday?
Something like that. Tuesday, Wednesday?
I don't even know.
It's Wednesday. It feels like
Friday, Monday, whatever.

This is the last one of our season for us.

What can we do better?
I would prep
the car and nothing bolt
and fix the throttle
position sensor would be easy.

I would just have to say that probably
this year I think we're all kind of
dealing with some stuff.
So I think
that we're all kind of going through the motions
at the moment. I think next year is going to be
different. I think next year we're going to be
all a bit sorted out.
Just coming together was a little
off this year.
But the car will be
fine.
No dog this time. We took a dog with
us this time. My big
Bernice mountain dog
figured, you know, take her out. She can
hang out with mom and stuff like that.
My dog is not a track dog.
She was not having it.
No, she's a
quiet, you know,
quiet property dog
and
she was having a lot of sensory overload
and
I did like the one guy saying
that dog is going to get away and run.
I'm like that dog doesn't run.
She barely walks fast.
Yeah.
But we probably won't do that again
because she
She's still pooped out.
Yeah. She's been sleeping for like three
days.
She's been sleeping for three
days and getting the loves
and
Apparently she didn't get anything to
eat either. She's just begging for everything.
I couldn't figure out why she wasn't eating her food.
And I realized everybody was feeding her and then
really upset her stomach because, you know, she's got
a dietary issue
which I failed to mention to everybody.
So
I found that out on the way home.
Yeah.
So
Oh, yeah. No, no.
That wasn't it.
The other end.
Yeah.
It's tremendous.
There's a reason we didn't get home till after midnight.
Yeah.
So what else can we do better?

Yeah, the car.
The car will be fine because the stuff that has
to be done is pretty minor.

It's just going to be straightened
out. Better drivers
for sure.

No, I think that was good.

I don't think that there was a ton of things.

That was weird.

Good, bad, and the ugly.
Traditional.

Don't all jump at once.
I would say the good.
The good was just theming with our friends.

That was hilarious.
It was a good theme.
That theme kept delivering.
It just kept, you know,
even when you thought you were hung up,
Jennifer went up.
Okay. So also in the movies and none that has a magazine
that says boys life on it.
And then.
So we just kind of.
Took a, you know,
it looks like somebody had placed.
Somebody had put a.
What was it?
A mullet.
It was a mullet calendar.
So we just flipped it over
and just, just drew the magazine out
that was in the movie and just had
Jennifer take it up and she was singing
kumbaya
to the judges.
And we left
the magazine up there
that we had created, which was just hilarious.
That was just hilarious.
But it just kept giving it was like, oh,
we gave it to Bish.
And it was just a nice.
That was the best part of the calendar.
But the nice thing about that theme is it just.
You know, you could just think, oh,
let's go do this and, you know,
like Striker with a drinking problem.
You totally have a glass and just like totally
miss his mouth.
And Tim Burr was just soaked.
And freezing.
And freezing. Yeah.
I think, I think his part of the theme was
definitely a summer theme and this was definitely
not summer.
It was just a very hard day.
Yes. The theme kept giving
and Chrissy and I did the whole airline
store this and we just kind of walked up
and just ad-libbed.
It was so funny.
It was just so funny.
The bad.
The bad was that
the car gave us problems.
But it wasn't
terrible.
And the ugly was when Jennifer
steering wheel came off and when
when Donnie hit the deer,
that was pretty terrible.
There was also what,
three, four car fires?
And one rollover.
Yup.
It was Carnage. Was it the track
or was it the people?
Well, the car fires were people.
That was them. That was all them.
I know, but the Carnage,
it seemed to be a lot of black flags and yellow flags.
I would
have to say that a lot of it was because
a lot of black flags were early
and there was a lot of people on track.
Too many for that track?
A lot of people might not have been
familiar with that track.
That's a new track for a lot of people.
I mean, how long has it been since
Lemons was there?
I think they said it was like 12 or 13 years.
And that was because
they had a problem with deer, they said.
Yeah, they fixed that.
Maybe not.

You got a good, bad, the ugly?

Good. I think our theme was
very, very good.
Bad, I think
some of the
issues we have with the car
are preventable.
And I'm not saying
WTF, I'm just saying
we can't have those because
they could be bad things. So I don't want anybody
getting hurt. That's kind of the
we do this for fun. We don't do this to make a living.
If we do it for making a living
it would be anything but making a living.
Everybody's like, what do you do with your winnings?
I'm like, winnings?

Anyway.
Storytime.
I think Eric
really glued this theme together.
He really did a great job.
Kind of held it together.
Came up with a lot of the ideas.
Was out there
upfront, you know, pretty much anything
anybody would
think of. He came up with a solution.
The only thing we couldn't figure out was how to do the dance
number to stay in alive
and have somebody get thrown up in the air
and stay in the air for 15 seconds.
But everything else we figured out.
So that was pretty good.
I think
we pretty much
did well for Halloween meets Gasoline
and, you know, taken two
this year.
I think this was our fourth race, right?
So that's not bad.
50%. Life is good.
That keeps our streak alive.
So,
Miss Vicki, what's our next race?
When you're not on mute and you use a microphone.
Besides that.
I had a cough earlier.
So,
I don't know when our next race is,
honestly,
because we're shut down for the season.
So I am completely
checked out until
January,
possibly
February.
I won't go into the garage if it's below a certain
degree because it takes too much
fuel to keep the place
warm.
We got to go shut it down though.
So we got to get in there soon.
Yeah.
We're going to shut it down until
after Christmas.
We might do a
Friendsgiving.
Yeah.
So,
we'll be back in the garage probably
January or February, but
we're going to figure it out.
We'll go in there on slightly warmer
days when it's above,
you know,
30s are okay.
20s are okay.
But anything below that,
especially if there's wind.
Yeah.
It takes too much to
keep it going.
But at least this year,
at least this year, we have
the thermostat working properly.
So we can turn it as low
as we possibly can.
If we had to go in there.
It's really hard to get the floor
warm.
Yeah.
So when you do come to work in our
garage in the wintertime, you really
should have a good,
let's say a winter boot.
Okay, so I wear merrels.
And they're merrels
like mox, they're slide
slidons.
But they do have a nice lining
like a Sherpa lining on the inside
or on them, but they are meant
for winter.
I think they're called icicles
or something like that.
They're lined icies or icis.
But regardless,
this is my daily shop shoe.
They start out
as decent shoes for jeans.
And by the end, they end up as shop shoes.
But I got to say
that they've been probably the best
things that I use in there
because I never feel the cold.
It's in there. You'll feel it
right into your bones.

So
but yeah, but now that we have the thermostat
we can set the temperature down to like 42.
I think it goes as low, the lowest setting
I think is 42.
So that kind of keeps the floor
somewhat and it doesn't take as long
to heat up anymore.

and the whole reason I had the question was
we don't know what our schedule is
because we haven't had Eric Groot on the podcast
who's coming on, I think.
So we'll leave there no next week
or the week after. It just depends on
timing, whether I can get it edited in time.

to the beginning of the next podcast
I've ever had.
So we're going into the season, the off season
with no real projects.
That's kind of new for us.
We'll see how things go.
We still have to catch up with
Jeremy and Audra and
Max and everybody from
New Hampshire. We haven't done that yet.
So don't think the season's technically over
even though it's done.
And then we've got some other fun things for the off season.
So hopefully you guys can pay attention
and maybe we might even have more energy
than we did right now.
