I've been working very hard.
And I've been juggling some family, some good family commitments.
So that's been a great, good busy week.

Other than I finally got to drive the Accord,
which I'd only parked outside my house after picking it up from the,
this is the 89SI Accord that had come back from the mechanics
with a clean fuel tank and a couple of new fuel filters.
And I drove for 45 minutes last night without incident.
So it drove simply.
So that's heading in the right direction.
The old cars, they just need a bit of time to wake up, David.
That's just, there's some time.
We well know that, don't we?
With Camry's and Assorted Other Vehicles.

But I think I've said it before.
I don't, I don't like, the reason I haven't driven it

And I think we've made this joke on the group chat a few times before the had the infamous
gear selected with the B, which is, you know, from the Simpsons, it's a put it in H.
I put it in H.
So I had a bit of a fun time kind of driving that around because I did my best to keep it
into like EV mode only.
And obviously, you know, you'd see once the battery power kind of dipped down and the
engine would turn on again.
And I was doing my best to kind of especially around the city area where the hotel was.
I kept my best to kind of keep it as a proper EV.
You must have kept it in H, mate.
Yeah, I tried.
I tried.
I think I drove it exclusively in H.
And then you're not allowed to put the cruise control on in that mode for some reason.
Oh, yeah.
Like it said, cannot probably, yeah, cannot apply cruise control in B mode.
You have to take it back to regular drive mode.
So I had a bit of fun with that.
But it was, you know, it wasn't the fastest thing going around considering it.
I think it's 70 kilowatts with the engine alone and another 30 from the hybrid, something
like that.
But a neat little car, especially around the city area, like when we were going on to the
kind of the highways, Kansas really have big roads, but some more of the 100k zones,
it wasn't exactly the spryest thing to have, but definitely around like town.
I loved it.
Because you just come to stop, you're nice and silent.
And then you just zip along as you need.
And also one of my co-workers who was there, he got an outlander.
And for some reason, I was dooted with driving my rental car in quotes when there was three
of us.
So I was like changing with three people in the crawler.
He had the outlander and he would not pick it up for some reason.
I suspect he was trying to save his kilometers up so he could take like a longer road trip.
But yeah, overall pretty good trip.
Did enjoy the crawler.

So I've got all that sort of ready to go.
I've just got a kind of nice dry day to get under the car and do that up and we should
be able to hopefully pour some fuel in it and, you know, bring it to service basically because
I haven't actually touched anything else except for just the body, you know, changed your
plugs, leads, just, you know, flush cool and all that all that good stuff.
Hopefully and, you know, see if it runs and idols, roughly, at least, because it has been
a bit crappy on that.

So those are coming up pretty much everything else just been staying put for now.

We were just talking about your Honda super ones price earlier.

I've just compared Corolla hybrids in New Zealand and Australia and I can't get the exact same
model because we have different models.
But a Corolla GX in New Zealand seems to be about an ascent sport, which is the lowest
lowest model that they offer.
And Australia is so probably about on par.
So 37,000 New Zealand in New Zealand, obviously, 36,000 in Australia.
So it probably will be around the same price as New Zealand for the Honda, just given markets
being very similar and wanting on.

And today I actually spent a bit of time down at a workshop and pulled the carby off the
HollyCarb.
It's a Holly600 off there for 100.
Looked pretty tired and dirty and never ran properly on the carby.

So I always had to run it on gas.
And I come across this, Harley knew about this place for years, but never told me.
And I've been trying to fix the carby on this years.
I try to get hold of this guy.
I think he used to be in North Melbourne.
He used to do HollyCarbs.
And anyway, he sort of fell off the radar and so I never got the carby rebuilt.
And we went to a footy game a couple of weekends ago down in Sydenham on the hillside.
And it's this big HollyCarb you're at a repair shop in hillside.
So I walked in there.
He goes, yeah, bring it in.
About 300 bucks and we'll basically restore the entire carby.
So I took it off today.
Took the carby in.
I sat down with him whilst we were at the bench.
He's having his coffee.
70 year old man.
I think he used to run a basketball performance or something like that.
Oh, yeah.
Anyway, Connie's name is in the 70s.
And he started pulling down a carby in front of me.
So by the time we finished talking, the whole carby pulled down in pieces.
So we had a good chat talking about life and cars and everything else.
And so that was fine.

what would you have option with color, spec and accessories?
If you were able to buy that car brand new,
what would you have done now?

I ticked every accessory.
So I got the mats.
It came with factory mats, but also I ticked the rubber mats.
I ticked the boot liner.
I ticked the umbrella holder.
I ticked the carbon fiber gear knob.
I think that was virtually all you could tick
because I got rid of the sunroof option.
And the mean green paint, which is the best part of the car.
Would you have got the sunroof if it was an option?
I would have done it actually.
I would have done it because when I went to order the car,
the guy was like,
actually they're not offering the sunroof with the 8.5s for Australia.
I'm like, oh, that's disappointing.
Steph's like, I wanted the sunroof.
I'm like, yeah, I know.
So, yeah, so I probably would have.
Oh, the other option I could have ticked was the black roof,
but I didn't want a black roof.
So I was like, you know, so.
So yeah, I ticked everything and I got what I wanted.

And that was hilarious in as much as I just wanted orange
and I wanted a manual.

was all these other things that the guy had spent a lot of money on.
I reckon he spent another 10 grand on that car.
He's gone through the Mugen catalogue and he's ticked everything from the oil cap
and the little sock that sits around the brake fluiders of all.

Things to protect your doors from the, your door handle,
but perhaps to go behind the door handles to protect your,
the paint from the fingernails and stuff.
It's got the mats.
It's got a, got the optional N1 only aluminium six big, you know,
with the orange lettering rather than the other was Nes 2000, you know,
but no, it's a factory N1 RS, you know.
That's so cool.
And then it's got the, the Seeker tailgate spoiler.
It's got the, let's see.
You upgrade.
It's got the spoon suspension and the Mugen exhaust.
And all of the things when I saw it, I thought, oh, I can,
I'll just have to bring the other bits in and, you know,
take it back to standard.
And as soon as I drove it, I thought, yeah, actually,
now this guy's actually thought about what he did.
That was the biggest, the biggest surprise and,
and luck of the draw that I could have had to other people.
I know recently have actually bought in bright yellow N1 RS's.
And that was the first one I looked at in New South Wales.
I think I told the story.
We look at a book because I told her I was looking at an N1 manual.
She thought I was just going to look at it.
So, so, so you're in Japan, David, and you walk into the Honda dealer
and say, all right, I want an N1 RS, orange stripes, no stripes.
Actually, it doesn't have the stripes on it.
They've got a really nice stripe kit that just fits in the,
on the sort of bulge in the center of the bonnet,
which would be pretty cool.
I'm thinking of actually getting one of those for it.
That's the only thing it hasn't got that I'd like.
So you would have bought it as, as it is just with?
Well, it's got more on it than I would have ever thought to put on it.
That's the thing I probably wouldn't have.
The one I looked at in Sydney that nearly, I nearly bought,
it was yellow and it had the Mugen body kit on it and the Mugen stripes.
And I didn't like that.
It was too, it was too much, you know, didn't like the look of it.
And it suggested to the guy that I might take it off.
And he was like, he couldn't believe it.
I'm taking the Mugen body kit off the car.
But anyway, the yellow one with the black roof just a bit too much
like a bumblebee, I think.
So I'd go with that.
But no, I pretty much, I was, I liked out that I have gone through
and got a couple of other little accessories.
I've got the little, there's a console box in the center that's just hard plastic,
but it does, you can get a like a silicon liner for it.
So things don't rattle around.
So I've got that.
And I've got a little Alcantara gear boot, which is every time I drive it,
I'm glad I got that because it's Alcantara with orange stitching,
which matches the rest of the interior in Iceland.
And that was, and that was a factory, the accessory.
Actually, that's an aftermarket thing.
That's not factory, but I saw it on a, an Instagram,
a guy in Japan had put one on his car.
And I thought, yeah, that's a bit of me.
I'll have that.
Oh, without your hand.
And luckily I told a friend to show David Day about it and showed him the photo.
And the next thing I knew, he'd ordered it.
And then all that.
So I was very lucky.
I didn't expect him to do that.
Any other options you would have ticked?
I'd love a sunroof.
I'd love a panoramic roof in that.
Did like, could you get a roof on those?
Oh, no.
And I'm very tempted because that car's a keeper.
I'm very tempted to take it down to Prestige sunroofs,
which is just around the corner from where I live.
And Rob Shaker, he said, he's like, don't do it.
Yeah.
Well, that's the thing, you know, like everyone,
it's probably not a good idea.
Yeah.
Tragically, but it's such a small car.
It's so narrow to the problem is they,
I'm sure they would say, are you,
we're going to run into problems with stuff like that.
So yes, I'll have to.
The one thing I don't like about it actually,
as far as it's not so much the optioning,
I suppose is the model, but it's got privacy glass.
So the rear, the rear windows are so darkly tinted.
And with a black roof lining, you pretty much,
you know, look at the revision where you can't see
an awful lot out the back window.
It's like steering into the abyss really,
but luckily it's small enough that you can,
you know, do a quick head check and it's, it's helps.
Yeah.
But the color's an important thing, you know,
and often with all second hand cars, you are limited
unless you're looking for that particular car,
which I was in the case of the N1.
But I bought a, I had a Volkswagen Nios for a few years,
probably 10 years ago now.
And I was, I was held bent on one particular color
and I couldn't find one in the manual petrol spec
that I wanted in that color.
And ended up getting, that was a lighter blue
called Polacy Blue.
And I ended up finding one in the dark blue,
which is called blue.
And yeah, just fell in love with it.
I mean, it was, it was, once I'd got it,
I preferred it, I think, to the lighter color blue
and it was great, that color.

including like audio gear and stuff that could be put in.

So I was lucky that whoever bought mine, the series two,
he ticked quite a lot of boxes from car mats
to the little blade light up logo on the doors along there
and privacy tint as well.
So that's another one, the privacy tint.
The mood lighting as well.
So you can change it from a white light to a blue light
in the middle.
So that was an optional extra.
There are the boot mat.
I think when it comes to the boot mat,
I would have gone the rubber instead of the carpet boot mat.
Just because it's more durable and just, you know,
easier when you throw stuff in it,
you don't need to worry too much.
Because at the moment with the carpet one,
I've got an old towel that sits over the top of it.
That's a bad option.
Yeah, which, you know,
my wife seems to think that that's kind of stupid,
but, you know, I'm trying to look after that.
100% you know the rule mats on mats.
That's how it works.

The only other option and it was an expensive option
with the series two is the adaptive cruise control.
I would have ticked that box.
It was just normal in the series ones,
but it became an option in the series twos
because it was just the car was just more expensive
as it was selling it
and to sell it with that adaptive cruise control attached,
it would have just pushed itself out of them,
out of its market,
of whatever market it was in, I don't know.
It's pretty unique.
Because they weren't a cheap car.
They were quite expensive.
Yeah, yeah.
They were a bit pricey.
Yeah, so that's the one thing I would have ticked for sure,
because now for me to have any kind of cruise control,
I've got to do some kind of wiring stuff,
but I don't know how to use that.
I've got to use a multimeter to find out
which wire underneath is sending the signal
to tap into and blah, blah, blah.
I don't know.
I'm not an electronic guru.
I don't know that stuff, so.
What color would you go with?
I actually like the color I've got.
I like pearl white.
It looks really nice in the sun once it's all washed.
And when it's a little bit dirty,
it doesn't really stand out and look bad.
Not a huge fan of the red that it came with.
And I feel it will just fade anyway, that red.
There was a nice blue, kind of like a dark blue,
but it was more of just a basic and re-looking blue.
So it didn't stand out too much.
And then all there was was just silver.
Silver, silver, silver, dark green.

Maybe that was only series one.
I'm not sure if there was any series two
that came out in that dark green.
If that was an option for the series two
with that dark green, I'd probably go that.

with a S660 in dark green with the beige leather trim,
which looked amazing.

was my N14 Pulsar.
So, I mean, at the time, couldn't afford it,
but I would have loved to have that as a triple S.
So, I actually had to look up what options were offered
for the N14.
And so, in a triple S, the only options were standard
as five-speed manual option for four-speed auto,
which I don't think so.
No, thank you.
And with the manual, you could option to have ABS,
which I probably would have chosen that.
I think at the time, you know, obviously,
well, I'm not going back to 1991,
but you know, whatever.
I was back when I actually had an ABS badge.
Sticker, yeah.
I liked that the car had ABS.
Well, it was probably like a $3,000 option or something,
just to chuck the thing in.
And the other two options were air conditioning
and a lid for the center console.

So, yeah, I would have gone with the air conditioning
and probably the lid just to have that extra height
come up to your arm.
But I would have loved to have that in a triple S
and in a white, because I'm a sucker for white cars.
So, that would have been my pick of that car.
Just having a look, everything else is kind of
standard rear spoiler, standard sports alloys.
I mean, there wasn't a whole bunch of things offered
for these cars.
I think it actually had the levers.
Oh, yeah, you could have a lever on that.
That would have been an accessory.
So, it was back then.

I would have also not ordered the leather.
I would have just kept the cloth interior, but I would have ordered the Brembo.
So I would have ticked a $5,500 option for a Brembo brace, which wasn't cheap.
I would have ticked the options for the MoMo wheel and gear knob, which my car now has,
and I would have, well, that's what I have ticked.
I think, yeah, I think that's pretty much what I would have ticked.
I would have just had Brembo's, or actually all velocity in the colour, velocity blue,
which is like a really light metallic blue, which is a very pretty colour.
So one of those colours I would have picked.
But yeah, I wouldn't have chosen the leather, because the leather on those didn't age too well.
Which is funny, because it's weird, because Ford had different leathers in their cars.
Like, the leather on, like, a fairlainer and LTD was a much nicer leather to what they got
on an FPV or an XR6.
So I don't know why they did that.

So on a BA, but on the BF, you could get the factory ones, which I've got,
or you could upgrade to the Dark Argent 19s, which I've also got a set of.

So, you know, that's, and obviously in the BF, they brought in the automatic
because the BAs were manual only.
So, yeah, I think I would have, if I had to choose, maybe Velocity Blue or Menace,
looking back now, I'd probably choose those.
I think in those two colors, they made like one or two cars out of the whole,
you know, the whole thing.
They only made one NV Green, and that was a pre-production car.
So no one else ticked that box, which is kind of cool.
And I actually did end up seeing that car on the road at one point,
and I gave him the big thumbs up.
It wasn't my way to Adelaide when I saw that, to be honest.
So that was, and then I proceeded to tell Steph the whole story about why that's such a rare color,
and she just was like, oh, here we go.
So, yeah.
But yeah, I think, especially with the outcars, like with what we've got,
we've usually got like a pretty high-end spec'd version of, you know, what was for sale.
You know, if I was to go back and buy like my first LaserGL,
I would have absolutely optioned it as an S, probably, or even a TX3,
or, but if I had to be a 4-door, I'd option it with an S,
with injection and air conditioning and power steering,
because, yeah, that would have been nice.
But yeah, it's interesting how people order cars,
and they're reasoning behind things,
and the most common thing that people choose is color,
and they always go for a bland color these days,
and the reasoning is, oh, because the resale's better,
I can sell a white car ease and I can sell a pink car.
While that is, in some ways, true, you know,
if it's like a bit more of a special car, I think,
and a color makes it stand out a little bit more
and gives it some sort of, not notoriety,
but more collectible, yeah, absolutely,
because if you look at, for example,
I've been looking a lot with Luca GTs and stuff at the moment,
you know, a lot of the raricolor option cars
seem to fetch a higher premium,
even though there are 450,000 more genuine ones now
than there were when they were new.
So, yeah, but it's the ones with the color,
not your Vermillion Red, which is, don't you remember,
a great color, you know, the ones that seem to be
quite a bit more sought after for their rarity.
But yeah, it's just interesting to know,
would you guys, if looking back, would you always go with color,
or like, I don't change your sucker for white cars,
or would you just still go for the white option?
