Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the martini works podcast
We are so happy that you're here. Congratulations on making it through
November it's December now and we have probably stated some of the most controversial things
It's a last week's podcast. I've never seen so many people
upset
divided
Angry, I forgot Mary Craisler
Ham or turkey. Oh, that's right. That's right, and I have reason to believe
How'd that how'd that turn out? Apparently I'm the minority
Ham overturkey. Ham is way better than turkey. I did see a lot of people
Should talk turkey unfortunately. Well, turkey is kind of not a fun foodie
You want to know what's better than ham or turkey that my dad used to make? That's a tamales. I mean tamales are good
That's not but like that's what we did for Thanksgiving. Yeah, as I say, it's not like I wouldn't be Thanksgiving food
I know we it was it was always a weird time in our household because my dad never really quite knew how to
make
American
A lot of people don't like turkey is such a weird one. It was like we're we're trying to figure out
You know what we were doing for our Thanksgiving and we had our parents coming down
And it was like the only the second time that we've ever hosted Thanksgiving. Yeah, and it was like, oh fuck
We get we I get a turkey I guess so it's like we've cooked at one time and that was a debacle
Yeah, and it's like it's just one of those things you do like maybe once a year
So it's like you never get really proficient because when the hell else you just cook in a whole bird
There's there's a couple things
When you're doing holidays where you know the the old
Historics have to come back to life, right? The turkey is a tradition that spawns centuries
the knife the the
Motorized knife that your grandpa has that's still in the box. That's not like yellow that you put
It's like no, no, no, I got it. Yeah, I have all the guys all the men are like no, no, no, let me go
I got I got this sucker wagon 72 and also, you know, it kind of reminds me of like
nostalgic vehicles
And that's the most terrible segue to talk about the first segment of this car
But what what I've heard in in the world of automotive news is
The introduction of special trims and models coming back. We're gonna be talking a little bit about the Toyota
GTG are essentially the
GR GT
They stole it from Genesis and the magma GT because they did it first how many car
Companies use the fucking term GT for literally talking about this the other day. There's so many
Letter combinations that just get reused for whatever reasons you I would love to be a fly on the wall
To the 16 year old kid that typed in GTR and not Nissan and got his first experience
Understanding that there are multiple vehicles that have the GTR nameplate and how cool all of them are yep, like the Mercedes-Benz
AMG GTR is a fantastically cool vehicle neat one
Congratulations to Krispy for buying an AMG
As well, I think you got a black edition super cool spec. I love those cars pull. I really want one
I'm hoping the podcast community bullies me until I get one because I need one badly
But anyway, there are some other trims other other little hints other
Teasers that are coming at us in the world of the automotive culture and I think Subaru is one of them. Is that right Dakota?
Yeah, oh fucking back
Vecna you can't kill it just keeps coming back
Children and I hope that doesn't age poorly. We don't know what the second half of the season
Yeah, but yeah, Subaru this this was like a little bit ago now like a month or so ago
It was revealed in Tokyo that there is an STI trim coming back after Subaru stated clearly that they would not be making an STI
Possibly to yes, they revealed to the E and the B the E obviously is an EV looks really wild
That one looks just like a straight-up concept. There's no door handles. There's no reflectors like it's like any doors
It looks cool though. I'm not I'm not downplayed looks cool
But you know like if it were to go production it would change a lot. Yeah, like that the B
That's the boxer. They had a manual transmission big deal. Yeah hatchback. Yep actual engine not EV and
That one looked fully flushed out ready to go that looks like a like hey, we're launching this like next week
Yeah, and both were hatchbacks, which I think I fuck with it as you guys know
I'm not the biggest Subaru person, but those got me excited. Yeah, I'm I'm hyped for it
I mean, I think it's dope that they're bringing that nameplate back
I think it's dope that they're bringing a hatchback back, but also back. It's a it's like a tall hatchback
But it's kind of a big car at least from the photos that I've seen. Well, they had that giant wing out
What'd you go?
You're doing your finger. I need you guys to answer this question with no hesitation and no explanation
You ready? Yep. It's quick. It's quick opinions and no facts best Subaru WX generation go blabby
Wrong Hawkeye. No, I was gonna say bug. I I like so much not not reliable
But the the blabby is just nostalgic for okay. What's the what's the worst one?
Bug I like the narrow body like 2000 is a 2008. What's the newest one with the fucking diaper booty and little tiny headlights?
I hate the VB. Yeah, I think that looks like shit
No, I say I say we were gonna go down the the the list number one
Hawkeye number two
Blabby number three
There was like a stinker or something wasn't yeah 2012 ish or whatever that one is mm-hmm the VA's I think the VA's
Okay, I am not done. I thought that's when I'm not done
Uh VB
Bug I VA
You think the VA coming in last? That's not a big fan of it. What the fuck?
The bug I at least has some like nostalgia going for it
You know, you see it if you see a clean bug I you know that that man moved heaven and earth to keep that thing
Rust-free you know that that man had that motherfucking thing in a bubble. Yeah for decades down in a bubble
He was literally fighting off the concepts of rust in his garage for a bug eye to be or they've completely just
Repaneled the whole car probably more likely that one than anything else this concept B1
It does kind of look like then the VB, but it yeah looks better like they flush it out
Yeah, so I was kind of like the type R like the 10th gen type R like how it looks really aggressive with aro and stuff
It's like they kind of went with that. Yeah, it did give me a lot of
Like callbacks to to that it does look honestly like and it makes sense because it's essentially what they did
But you know, they took like the newer impresa and they just threw a big wing on it through made a hatchback
Some bigger arches on her fender arches on it and made of the hatchback
I think it looks decent at the front to me is missing something
It looks like it looks a little like too rounded in the front where the rest is like really like angular
Looks like it's an SUV that got lowered
That's the that's the concept future one
Everybody's infatuation with turbo fans on concept cars has me feeling a type of way too for those that don't know
To turbo fans are like that almost like outside lip on a wheel
That usually is a different color or it has this like protruding teardrop element and it's meant to
Simulate what an old turbo fan on a rally car was supposed to do which was
Protect the calipers from rocks to dissipate heat and in some cases even help with downforce in the way that it pulled
An air from the fans now every concept car that I feel like I ever see has turbo fans on it
Especially if it's an EV dude, it's like the unofficial official
Wheel like design of 2026 turbo fan style became like the future
Look
And I don't know why like I've never watched SpongeBob by the way. I only understand it through memes. Oh my god
Never watched it. Mm-hmm. All I know is I know memes and very specific moments and gifts
I'd have never watched like probably watch it. Yeah, you should catch up anyway
Do you guys think the E version compared to the B version which let's say they did they dropped both
What do you think sales would be like do you think one would slaughter the other do you think it'd be kind of even?
I do think that the B would slaughter the E
I think that are buying that are truly in the market to go buy a super WX STI
They ain't fucking with EVs. I don't know. I think it would sell right
I think it would be like there would be a market for it, but like I think the
Actual gas engine version would like two to one at least see
I just don't think people who buy the Ford Mustang and people who buy the Mach E are the same demographic, right?
So I think that I think the EV would do just fine because the people that are going to buy that are
People that used to be art teachers back in 2002 and they're trying to get something
That's electric and they have a little bit more money because they're old as shit and they retired
And so they're gonna buy the fancy STI. I was gonna say in the last it depends on the price to the last three years
How many completely normal non-car enthusiast people have you seen driving WRX's?
I feel like it is just skyrocket. I mean, that's also true
Leasing programs are insane at the STIs though because there isn't one there isn't one there was for but like all the WRX's that
I see though at least around here and when we always talk about that like they are like the VAWRX's
Tons of EV's. Yeah, I do own stock. Yeah, that's a
That's a good I still I still think that the the gas version would blow it out of the water
See, I think everybody wants to say that but like the more time I've spent with these like newer platforms that are
Kind of taking a little bit of a hint to like the old past the EV's I think are what allow these
car manufacturers to even make
The IC versions and I think they're putting more technology in the EV version to be more competitive right out of the gate
And that's fine
The fucking gas version is gonna sell more. I hate to tell you. I don't know. I don't know
I don't know if it would honestly. I think people are coming around
And there'd be a lot more interest in the EV one versus a few I don't disagree that EV's are coming
I mean when we had
We're on here talking about like the the Maki
How yeah, we monoxid they were talking like they had Maki and they love it
It's like yeah, like I'm not saying there's not a market out there that market isn't growing
But I'm saying you put two STIs out here
And here's an electric version and here's a gas version that you've been waiting how many years for but let me just let me
Just add this right?
Let's say they drop both and one comes with a two and a half liter turbo with
300 horsepower like it has since Jesus crossed the rivers and
The second option is a EV version and it comes with a dual-motor setup that has
680 horsepower and
750 foot-pounds of torque
Yeah
How would you not want to have that? I'm not trying to be that guy. I'm just saying
Like you gotta remember to car enthusiasts are such a small percentage of the actual market
That's buying cars what we would choose is car enthusiasts
Yeah, I would say car enthusiasts would definitely buy the STI
But I'm thinking gen pop them people in Tesla's that got excited about it
They're kind of bored of it and want to get something new and all these people they're going into the EV market
I think they would be all over that
I think you bring up a really interesting point about the idea that I always consider Tesla people as
Like first time 16 year old just got my license car people. Here's why
There's so many people. No, just hear me out here when I first went to my very first like Tesla
group thing in California and they were talking about having modified Tesla's
I saw the very same type of mods that I saw on a hundred and twenty thousand dollar Tesla as I did on the
$3,000 Honda Civic that was sitting in the parking lot at my high school back in 2010
It was like the same. I want to express myself
I want to do something else, but they didn't know anything about anything
So everything they chose was wrong if you get a Tesla, you are automatically
Obligated to wrap it some shit Matt. Yep
Put some license plate custom license plate that plays off of a spin-off of some fucking nerd thing
Most likely electric of some sort
and throw it on some
Horrible fitting wheels because you don't know what wheel offset is so what do they do they get smarter?
They get wiser. No, they still want to have a little bit of fun
So then they go out and they look for other cars other cars that are fun
You know how many people that I've met that had a Tesla Model 3 and then got an Ionic 5n and talked about how much they love the
5n because it's like a fun
Performance EV and how much more they enjoy compared to the the Model 3?
I'm convinced that that EV audience is gonna start going through the world of like hey Tesla's not the only option
I want to try this. I want to do this. I want to do this. I wouldn't be surprised to see people jump in into one
I could see that
Again, you're talking about an already niche audience becoming a more niche audience to buy this car
I I don't say I do not see that in any fucking world and I could be wrong
I could be totally wrong. I don't see it in any fucking world that outselling the petrol version, you know, I don't get that
I don't know it's gonna be crazy more expensive because it's an EV and it just doesn't make
Sense gels. That's an old take. They're not that expensive. They're not that much more expensive. We don't know anymore
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see where the the price comes if it's like that much of a difference where it's like 300 horsepower and 600
I could see him jacking up the price for the EV one again
That conversion is so weird though when it comes to electric. You don't know what I thought it was fast
You know what I thought was weird to a certain point the the thing that I thought really fun was when we were doing the the
Gv60 reveal we were talking to all the guys about how they made this thing better
And so they had to explain it and there was like a little fancy symbol on I can't remember what it was
But the dual electric motors have a rev range maximum rev range what they call it of
20,920 revs, okay, so like rotations
but
that
translates to a
internal driver
RPM rev range of 9,000 rpm
Make that make sense. Well, let's be make that make sense
That's a lot of math. I can't figure it out. Yeah, honest
So with that being said gels hates electric vehicle. I don't hate electric vehicles. He literally just said it
I literally said multiple times that I don't hate it and that I see that there's an audience that it's a growing
Demographic and a growing audience. I'm just saying again and to reiterate
There's not a fucking snowball chance in hell that that car is selling more than the gas version. I
Think gels is a sleeper Subaru enthusiast. I
Think from a car enthusiast perspective. Yes a hundred percent, but from a general pop. I don't I think it could be close
I think it would be close
I don't think the general pop is gonna give a flying fuck about that car dude. You say that but again
We just how are all these general population people driving WRX's? I don't know
Nowhere we never would have
Lease programs. It's all the financing the financing exactly. They're doing that on EVs too. Yeah, because they can't fucking sell them
Yeah, they are now and now because they're literally were what was it with that the Dodge fucking charger
Whatever there was like ninety nine dollars a month or some crazy deal
Honestly, I've seen deals like that and I've almost
Bought in a car off that principle the Nissan leaf was like seventy nine dollars a month like goddamn ten years
That was nuts. I drive around little Appleton, Wisconsin, and I see fucking eight Tesla trucks
The cyber trucks, I think we just see the one a lot. No, I I've seen multiple because there's wrap black ones
I've seen orange. I see a green baby backer one. I've seen a silver one
Speaking about cars that I feel like seeing an actual silver one is rare because I said they're all wrap some shit
I want to spend a second here because gels is gels hates electric use. We got to change the subject really pissed off
There's a car out there that I got a lot of
love for from
Vehicle virgins I was talking to him and we were talking about different types of cars that have been released in 2025
I wanted to get your guys's thoughts since we're coming to the end of this year
And I said, what's an underrated car that you drove that you really enjoy and he's like, oh
Yeah, I got one the Dodge six pack
Have you heard of this car before? Yeah, I think we talked about it with the max I guess
So it's it's it's a dodge to start it off with but it's got a three liter
Straight-six engine with twin counter rotating turbo chargers and it has I think what did it say?
It's got nine and a half to one compression
550 horsepower and five hundred thirty one foot pounds of torque. Why is the counter rotating? It's marketing, brother
Oh, okay
Valences and so I looked at it. It's kind of a good-looking car. I'm not against it
It doesn't look like it looks kind of just looks like the EV one
Yeah, it looks like it's a hundred percent the EV with an actual gas engine in it. That's what it's kind of cool
I just didn't know that this car even existed. Yeah. Yeah, like I said, we're talking about the monoxide guys
I believe they brought it up really in turbo
Straight cylinder is pretty sick. That's what I'm saying. That's pretty sick
It's a brand new engine apparently which scares me a little bit, but yeah, especially especially with that
But yeah, I mean, I think it I mean honestly guys
lower it
arrow
Wing it could look pretty good. I feel like it needs some arrow. It does. It's very sloped and like it's like a usdm
Nissan z
Yeah, yeah, but 550 horsepower that'd be fun. I wonder how it drives anyway
But that being said, we're gonna take a small break but not before we talk about our official partner of the martini works podcast Dakota
Conti Conti Conti. Thank you. I love continental tires and now is the time
We got a Viking contact eight in and we've been checking out there gnarly is hell

Uh pick something up during the month of november. Thank you so much. Thank you
Thank you for trusting us to help you with your car build. It does mean the world
We read all of the order notes. We smile and giggle when we see
Really cool packages come through wheels and tires and performance parts warehouse is fucking crazy right now
Yeah, that's going that's going nuts. But you know, we looked at some of the numbers and uh,
You know, we're so thankful for
You guys like listening and talking to us. We saw all the notes with the podcast mentioned. So shout out you guys
Thank you. Yeah, seriously it like we get to chase this dream
Because we're with you and we hope that if you ever need any help
With your car modifying it and you want somebody to help you out
Maybe give you some opinion or help you find the part that you didn't know you could get
You know, shoot us a message over at martiniworks.com. It does mean the world
We're so freaking thankful to be able to be here, you know, less than three years pretty much
And being able to do this like for as a full-time job is
Awesome and we I just was like thinking about that this morning. I was like gosh darn
We we did some pretty cool stuff this month with some really cool people. So I wanted to say thank you now with that being said
You know, we've also talked about new cars getting released pretty much every single week for the last month
It's felt like and uh, I like when that happens. We always love when that happens
Obviously tokyo autoslans coming out. So there's gonna be some stuff dropped there probably
We've got the new york autoshow that will come up in february. So i'm sure more stuff will show up for that as well
The subaru prototype was showed at the tokyo mobility show which is just happened like about three four weeks ago
And so genesis has the production gv 60. They announced the magma gt. They announced the gv 90 wingback concept
I want that one and everybody on the internet was like, give me give me a jenny
I need a jenny give me a jenny right now and then toyota had to come back out and be like
Settle down kids settle down simmer allow me to remind you
That we've been working on this car for 20 years
Literally, literally our son's son is working on this car right now. Um, what's it called the grg t grg t
Officially got a teased name plate whether that's gonna stick. I don't know
But the teaser video that they dropped for it was super fucking sick
So this is a car that we've been seeing in the digital camouflage for the last like literal decade. It seems like
Speculated to have v8 engine in it should be pretty sick
Speculated to have a toyota version as well as a higher end lexus trim option as well
Supposedly from what everyone's understanding meant to be the successor to the lfa
So the teaser commercial was freaking dope had like the 2000 gt rolling up
And then the lfa come flying up like the nerbert ring edition one. Yeah, so like a really cool
Version of it and then this new grg t as it was plated
Comes flying up as well. So what I saw
Was photos at the nerberg ring the notch life
With a yellow little yellow sticker on the back
And that's important that is important because that signifies
That there is some version of an electric motor on board the vehicle
I'm just kidding which is required
To be shown on the notch life, which tells me that the grg t will likely feature
A hybrid powertrain system. I want to be surprised which is nsx. Yeah
Yes, but what I think is really cool is that if they manage to keep the toyota v8 in there
Which is what everybody is saying will be in there
That means that you will get a v8 hybrid powertrain
Probably naturally aspirated which has to give you
An absolute boat fuckload of torque like that cars if if
Right
V8 low end that a boat fuckload that that was a crazy always that was your that term threw me off
I was just so excited. I couldn't put the words in the right order
But a part of me worries
I don't know if they say that you can hear the faint sound of a turbocharger too
Oh that'd be kind of so turbocharged v8 with
A hybrid system in it. It's literally every car guys. What dream
I don't know that that might be too much
I don't think I don't think people can handle that so obviously the speculation if you guys are listening in
You can drop your thoughts on what it's going to be now
I have a reason
to have faith
That there's going to be a v8. I think more realistically
V6 twin turbo in the road production versions and the gt3 variant for racing will probably see a v8
I don't know. I feel like the v8's been teased for like so long and like
I feel like it has to I feel like it has to have it. Yeah, because what's the v8 in right now the lc 500?
Or is that a three and a half? No, that's a v6
Their v8 stuff is pretty much exclusive to truck Brent. You gotta say can you look that up for us?
What engines in the lc 500 because I can't
Five liter v8. Oh, is it? Oh, thank god. I thought it was a v6. Why did I think that?
Am I really having a stroke? It's because yeah, like you never hear about
Toyota talking about the v8 unless it's rumored stuff that's
Going to be coming out. It's like I don't know. They're not too earth shattering
Pretty just standard
Yeah, that's exciting stuff though because like I said, this car has been in the works for
Long time had been getting you know teasers of it at the Nurburgring and camo and stuff like that
So it's the first time that we've got a sneak peek at what the actual name plate is going to be
The first time really seeing it without any sort of like camo on it four liter twin turbo v8
Because it's it's coming into the land cruiser
They're going to put that fucker in a land cruiser
Are you talking about something? No, I'm talking about the new toyota land cruiser v8
The company's actively working on a brand new four liter twin turbo v8
Which will replace the naturally aspirated five seven liter v8. That would be marley
The problem is I have never seen toyota
uh
Go this wild before
It seems it seems a little elephant is pretty crazy. That's a long time ago. We got listen
I I love toyota as said never I love toyota as much as the next guy the elephant was a long time ago
It was a very limited car very limited option. Yeah, hell expense
We got to stop using that car as the benchmark for toyota
Why because it was way too rare of a car to use as a benchmark for a toyota
But it did what it's supposed to do though. It got us to talk about it for 20 fucking years
That's what it got us to talk about. Absolutely. The audi r8 wishes it had the amount of legacy this fucking lfa car
Has had it is the maybe they got to make it sound better
The craziest thing about it is the amount of people that love the lfa
But i've never actually seen an lfa is astronomical
I saw there was one at um
The hell's the place over in all car like uh
Can't think of it rode america rattle stop rattle stop. Yeah, they had one didn't they they had like a red one over there
When we visited I can't remember
I think that was my first time ever seeing one. That's what i'm saying. Everybody loves an lfa
It is more elusive than any other car. I've ever seen before I saw I think
The the most recent time I've ever seen an lfa was during monorail car week. I seen one at chicago auto show
I think that's the only one did did lexus bring it. Yeah. Yeah, it's like one of those cars were like
It's so rare to see privately owned let alone driven
That's what i'm saying is like it is this car that I don't even know how to explain it clearly
It has this like aura
It has this mysticalness to it where it's like when people start talking about
Toyota ever doing something above their standard practice
It's like natural for almost anyone to say well, they came out with the lfa. Yeah
I'm like, yeah, but it didn't they only make 500 of them
I mean, but they actually did it though. I feel like that's better than
I don't know. I love mazda, but goddamn we've seen that fucking mazda vision car for 20 years also
And it's never become an actual fucking thing. It's at least at least Toyota was like, yeah, here it is
To be fair Toyota does also lag on their prototypes for quite a long time
And what's the difference between that anything that like lamborghini does with their like special edition ones?
But like that's we're we're using a halo car to baseline, you know, like a grt6
That's kind of my like comparison. You know what I mean? Like when I think of Toyota when you think of Toyota and you're like
What should Toyota
Hang their hat on in the last 10 years? I say Toyota runner. I say Toyota Supra
I mean, yeah
But like anytime I talk to somebody about that or I say that
Wow
That car was partnered with beer. Whatever. Why would you ever exactly the LFA was like the best car ever of all time?
And it's like no, I know that but it's not relatable to like
I think even the new car that the Toyota is making is more relatable to a gt3 car than an LFA
Because an LFA was never a race car. It was just a car. Yeah, so
I think if they could make the LC 500 fast
And make it like look that gorgeous
500 is a gorgeous car LC 500 is a gorgeous car. The only thing I have against it is the interior
I think the interior is too dated. Yeah, it does look like they just took like the rc interior and threw it in there
Like Steven's car. Yeah, it's like the same thing quite literally
It's probably the most perfect car I've ever seen before modified. Steven has a gorgeous Lexus
The interior of that and the interior of the LC 500 are the same
And I can't tell if I'm in 2008 or 2025 when I get in these cars sometimes because it's it literally looks
The same some people like that. I'm not necessarily a massive but that's always been a thing with
Japanese cars. That's why I love the Supra so much though. It kind of had these little bits and pieces that were like
Here's this old Toyota kind of thing and then here's BMW. Yeah, you could see the BMW elements the interior is like all BMW
But that that was nice. I was refreshing for a Toyota
It's like because now I have this forerunner and is quite literally if you look at because this is a 2021
If you look at a fucking 2016 2015, they're identical screens
Slightly
Exactly the same and like I don't mind that that person it's rugged. It works. It's just rudimentary
It's what you need to nothing more and that's the point of it
But it seems like they kind of do it across where I remember even the first time I got to go in
and I know
This is accurate
But like I feel like Japanese cars in general for the most part. They're just
behind them for everything like when we got in the NSX
It was like
This thing feels like it's way older than what it is. What the hell felt like I was hopping in like an si
Yeah, it was so weird. I was immediately like what the fuck that's so strange
But yeah, generally they they kind of just stay moderate with their interiors. That's when we were um
When I was over in bozeman montana with toyota doing the kind of like the expedition for the weekend
We got to try out all the different versions their tundra their forerunner
The takoma the land cruiser
and like I get in the
Forerunner no trail hunter, which was like one of my favorites. I really liked it. It was cool
The colorway was really neat and I'm like, you're like, this is nice like it's got
Carplay it's got this like these nice little features
And like I get out and I'm talking to some of the people that were there that are like avid avid toyota off-roaders
And I'm like, what are you thinking? They're like, dude
This is the biggest
improvement
Ever I've owned toyotas for 40 years
I have never seen them make a jump from here to here and I'm like, well, what did they change? It's like
apple carplay
The new buttons the buttons are really nice and I'm like, oh my god, I can't believe that this is a thing
But the new generation toyotas have had their you know, they're really nice on the inside
I like to be fair though. I feel like the evolution of automotive interiors
It's kind of like
Capped right now like what else because besides making the entire fucking dash of touch display or something like that with a bunch of screens
And it's like what else is really what else can you change or do different than you could in 2014?
I'm trying to think of what car has some of the best
Internal components when I think old school. I still always think outie. I always thought
Like the outie r8 had one of the best
Interior buttons haptic feedback like the buttons on it were always so good
Like he's like
You know it had that like engaging feel even like the old six speed gen one r8s
As you're going through the gears and it was like super engaging and fun
I'm trying to think is there a car of recent
that you would say
It's got like a good in
Interior experience. I don't know. I haven't really hopped in a bunch of new like newer cars lately
I'd say this is a bit of a hot take and I know I talk a lot shit about but the market gti has some
Right things that it did that they went kind of outie route with it
Like I love the digital cluster and then I can press a button and switch just to my gps
Like it feels like I'm in like a cockpit almost like it because it changes everything your whole vision like
My whole experience with cars ever I've always just had a speedometer
So then to have a digital display and I just have my whole gps up in my map and satellite
Driving won't do like it feels so futuristic and really high res cool
It's quick, you know, like it doesn't I remember when the electronics started really getting big
It was like everything was like delayed when you pressed it or it's not like that. It's quick
It's responsive
It flows nicely even the transitions between menus and stuff is smooth
So I like that side of things and I think that's where you can update
It's just making everything smooth and operate faster and those operating systems that are in your display should make such a huge difference
It really does because
It's anything it's like, oh, it's a touch screen now or it's like we've added like a full color display to navigate through
It's like it better not fucking suck
Yeah, it better not if I press it it better not like
Pixelate and then two seconds later get to the screen
Yeah, three times to get to do what you want
I think you bring up the good point because the r8 the 2018 one that I had was like that too
Where it's like you pressed a button and the whole screen changed to just the maps and there was something so
Yeah, it just feels nice. Yeah, it feels you do you feel
cool
The also nightriders. I don't know if other I think the rs3 has it too
but again another thing that I think out he's done really well is the
uh
climate control knobs
as they turn
click
and
The display is inside
The the knob all the knob itself. Yeah, I think that's cool and that like
The tism computer community that makes me very happy like I like that's like
And then it goes oh dude tactile buttons
Underrated it was a really good interior. It's not as recent
But I always thought honda killed it and they're way ahead of the time with s2k like the digital cluster
That's in it where everything is how worse the little like secret compartments that are in it
Like it's just a good proper interior. You know what interior has uh
Had me in a stranglehold, but the wrong way in terms of I wanted to murder it
The old Cadillacs
Like the the ats 2.0 is from like 20
So they didn't have like a button
For the climate control. It is a vertical
Chromish slider that you just essentially
Move your finger up. Oh, and it raises the temperature or you bring it back. Oh, yeah
But it is so difficult to operate if you are driving and you are trying to
Change the temperature and you're busy like yeah, that's awful
Trying to figure out how to get the temperature right I I can already see myself struggling with that
And you would hate it imagine that at night and you're like, oh my god
And the rest of the the rest of the center console. I remember this because my mom had the 2.0 t
It's all piano black
So not only are you not only are you missing like the control
All the high health your dirty little fingerprints are all over the center console
Then when you're back during the daytime and you like look at the center, you're like, what in the hell
Piano, but we need to get piano black out of the interiors of cars. I'm I'm done with it
I remember the exterior too. I've seen it a lot on like the exterior lately
Yeah, the z's had it like any like little like like under like the bumpers
Even like when you try to clean it doesn't even clean up like at least water scratches so easily to like it's
Stop it. Yeah. Yeah, it doesn't work good
Like the the only time piano black stuff like that looks good is when you peel that plastic off and you look at it
That's the one time it looks good immediately after it's destroyed all downhill from there. It really is
Ah, I can't do that. That's almost worse. I'd rather see it dirty than the plastic film on I will sit though
Out of the cars that I've owned the biggest gripe that I've had about any of them has been with my fucking bmw
I don't like I got 2011 and I think it's just it must be a weird year
Like it was like the in-between year before like they went to like the screens
Uh, and then like all this other stuff before I got like I don't know the fucking key fob situation with that car
It's like hey, here's like the key fob like every modern fucking car has
Except just keeping it in your pocket and using the push to start button
You have to insert it into its little cubby and then press it in and then you can start
The s2k was plagued by that. Yeah. Yeah, because you had to put the key in and then then press the button
So it's like why what is yeah, so I dropped it off at a Johnny's shop the other day. Good detailed
The guy called me. He's like, how the hell you start this thing?
You're like, it's not starting. I'm like, oh, you got to put the you have to put the key in its home
And he's like, well that's stupid. I'm like, yeah
It is that defeats the whole purpose of push to start
You might as well just have a key if you're gonna already
Exactly
It's crazy. There. Yeah, it's funny to watch how auto manufacturers have gone through like this trial and error
The mid like 2010s was such like a trial and error like phase. I think like because I think we're like a big ramp up
Yeah, I think we are too. I think with all every because like we saw folks waiting
They went everything touchscreen and everything happened and then they're like, okay
Yeah, maybe I'm gonna dial back a little bit
But now you're gonna have a couple years of vehicles where that is all that it is
And uh, yeah, I think certain cars have
It needs to be less of a
Interaction with the with the driver. I think some things can are okay with being very like digital and very
Uh, like away from you, you know, and for me, I think a good example of that would be like
A Cadillac Escalade
Like nice elegant fancy futuristic
Maybe it's fancy. Dancy climate control is hiding somewhere in the ethos of their ecu system
I'm okay with that
but in a sports compact
Car like a gr corolla or a gti or something like that. I feel like those cars are
Built and engineered around giving you a sense of like driving fun
Yeah, and I think the interaction of you with the car goes past just like the pedal and the shift knob if one exists
But also all the other stuff you do with the car when you interact with it
I think when you have a touchscreen
You lose that tactile feedback when you start going into
Even when they started changing to electronically assisted to fully electric steering columns
Again, you lose a little bit of that when you start getting rev hangs you lose a little bit more of that
And I think that's when people start buying these like newer sports cars with analog systems
Like a manual transmission and people say well, I don't like it a lot of times
It's because these vehicle manufacturers are like putting
Non tactile things into tactile experiences with cars. I think that's what the z suffered with a lot
Yeah, it was a struggle bus because it's like everybody's like it's manual and it should feel good
I wanted to like that car so much
And but like you said, yeah, it was just like it felt like they just put it there
But then it was assisted by everything and it just like counteracted itself so much
It was it was like you're shifting manual and it's like yeah, it's gonna be slower
But it's like
It feels it feels like a
My fucking equinox when I hit the auto, you know, like the paddle shifter on it, you know, it's like
It it just it's okay. I'm just selecting gear at this point. I'm not really doing anything
Yeah versus, you know, there are some cars I would say newer ones that have you know
That come in a dct or an automatic only that kind of get dogged on that I think are really worth, you know
They're weight and gold. I think they're super was a great car like a super is a good car. I think
9-11's are can be great automatics
I just think it it depends on the experience the z had
And should be and will be
Go on the record
It will be a great car when it comes down on price
It it may not be a great car now
But the the new Nissan z will be a great car in like three years
I can almost guarantee it because you've already seen people like chris forzberg took one that got totaled out of a
um
From a guy that that had one and you turned it into a glgt car
And he's like honestly dollar for dollar you couldn't beat them
Yeah, it's still like like the car is a winner of a platform
That would be wrong like real drive sports coupe, you know v6 twin turbo like solid platform
It was a fun car to like in reality like it was a fun car to drive. It's just like
It left you wanting so much more with just the general feedback of it
And it was both for the manual and I would say the automatic too like
We got the chance to
To have that automatic one here for a little bit and you know, we I drove that one a little bit to test it out and it was like
Expecting like, you know, this how the super transmission is like to shift quick. I'm like, okay
Well, the manual one had such a bad rev hang
At least this one, you know should be like hava hava like it should like shift
Didn't it shifted just like the fucking q-shifted. So yeah, it was such a slow shifting transmission
I was like, do I have this in the right mode? Like what the hell is going on?
That's why I just got a like if you have an e sun z you're thinking about buying an e sun z the process very simple
vcu tcu
coilovers wheels tires
Exhaust with downpipe. Good luck. And you're done
Don't do anything else. You've got a great car from there. I will say though that if you're trying to get dollar for dollar
The answer remains the same
Just get a super. It's still the super right now. It really is like right now the super cannot
Be beat in the in the price point that it's at at what you can get it just like it can't be beat
But that being said
You don't know what can be beat
my bad transitions
Into another official partner of the martini works podcast, which is can't be beat
Fortunato coilovers. There's a lot of people that actually picks them up this black friday, which was pretty cool. Congratulations
Hope you enjoy your free
Coilovers that are 130 dollar value that are going to save your life when you drive them in the winter time
And then in the spring time you go to actually change your ride height and you realize that those coilover covers are the difference between you having
five
Freshly manicured knuckles or making it look like you just got out of episode a fight club because uh, it's going to be really hard to
I'm sorry. Fortunato coilovers has really great coilovers custom built for you modular and uh, the team is absolutely fantastic
They have different models and series that we've talked about in the past
But one of my favorite things is that they grow up with you, right?
You learn as you learn to do your taxes
Your Fortunato 500 coilovers can learn how to be a little bit stiffer and go up into the 510 series
If you decide that you want to become a cpa
It learns that it can go into a two-way or three-way setup if you so prefer that they've got new series like dreadknot
Um, and they also have a bunch of really killer data that they use to dial in their coilover options for you
So if you're looking to get something that's great for the street or even better for the track
You can check out Fortunato over at martiniworks.com
All right, we got a few more cars that are rolling out or are being talked about
Uh, i'm just gonna start going through some of them the new 2026 bmw3 series and m3
It's kind of uh doing the bmw polarizing. Is it already time for a facelift? No, it looks like it
Let me see. I kind of like it. No
No
No, it looks like if Hawkeye had to have product paste in season three
Hear me out
Maybe you guys are onto something, but I like it already and that's a bad sign because normally I hate it
And i'm like, what the hell and then I like it, but right? So is that the m3 or the three series?
It's a concept. It's the it's the point. Looks like it has an m badge on it from this concept
I can't believe it's already time for another refraining, but it's saying that uh, the sports sedan is expected to include both
internal combustion and
battery electric of course it is it's just the future because people are realizing that once
Not trying to get political here not trying to get political. All right
All i'm saying is terms are only four years and eventually somebody else is going to be sitting in that big old big old house
All right, and when that happens
If that person is not aligned with the previous person's
Disposition on internally combustion vehicles. You're gonna watch everyone race back towards electrification
Like it was happening a couple years ago. I don't think it's a bad thing
Yeah, I don't think it's a bad thing for a lot of companies are just kind of like sons
We're gonna do both and we're just gonna wait like we're just gonna wait this one out
I will say though. I don't like that because
Let me be clear
I think that they should do their design language testing on literally fucking any other model than the three series
Go make an m6 grand coupé short nose thing and put it over there
The m3 and the m4 and the m2 have very specific design languages that work very very well
Keep it like that. I say you just let them cook because they have done very well. Yeah, they also they also made the
x7 m
Yeah, okay. There is some bad ones. Um, I got another one for you guys. It's kind of wild the 2026 chevy corvette
suv
Go on the maki route. Yep. Yep
It literally is just a husky corvette. Oh my god
Yeah, it's a whole milk vet. Yeah, I feel just wasn't chevy
Let me see what's that's the car that the 70 year old buys because they can't get down in the corvette anymore
6.2 liter v8
Honestly, that's okay. So it's still gonna be internal combustion. Yep. Wait a minute. Hold on. Hold on. Let me let me take interesting
Let me go back. Okay. All right
if they made
A four door supercharged a four door supercharged v8 chevy
Yeah, it's kind of sick. Yeah. Yeah
It's kind of in line up with the like the chevy ss and the was the Jeep Cherokee srt8
Like it's just like why I think those are cool. Why keep the name plate of corvette though when it's so
Clearly that way the corvette guys can have their
Wives by a corvette corvette and keep corvette and like the mustang, right?
It's just the mustang and then his wife by the mustang. It's just so weird. I know I know maybe I'll come around to it
I think it's just well. Remember. What do you say in though, too?
Like maybe these auto manufacturers
There's like certain laws that are made about what vehicles they produce and maybe by making like a
Hybrid variant or suv. It kind of gives more leeway to I don't know all that
I'm sure there's some like loophole stuff around it that there's got to be reason but
It's probably mostly a mark on the surface level
It just seems like a fucking marketing gimmick that we cannot
Release a new name or a new vehicle anymore without
Making the same fucking thing. That's where you're wrong bucko the dodge six pack. That's cool
That's a challenger
Um
Yeah, the okay. I know I went the 2026 ferrari. I feel like I've been hearing about this for so long
EV suv
I have seen this suv from ferrari forever. Yeah, because right when um, didn't they say they would never make an suv?
No, they did they did but well, they haven't technically but they did
Lamborghini came out with its uh, what's it called yours? Yes. Yes, and they like quadrupled their sales
Yeah, that's that's so that's where I was like, okay, well, you see how they named it something completely different because yeah
Well, I mean they're not calling it the 458
Ferrari 100 price them in this like insane market
But I saw a Ferrari prosangue
In person a couple times. I know
it is
The most gorgeous suv ever made it is like
perfect suv not suv suv not suv
V12
Yeah, that's rowdy and that suv not suv
It has the most gorgeous sculpted like rear quarter. That's like all one piece
And the wheels are ginormous. They're massive. I think they're 22 23s or something like that
But the one that I saw get this
I don't know if it was a factory option or if it was just at the fact because I was
I saw it when I was in marinello had carbon ceramics on it. Yeah
Imagine carbon ceramics on a 22 inch
diameter wheel
it's
30 yeah for those to get replaced could you oh my god, it was I saw it
That's why everybody says the budget version is the mazda. Um mazda cx
five
It's so funny like watching
um
because like
You see bmw doing it. How are you doing?
You know, you got like the x3 mx by them. You got the rsq. Whatever is now, um, you know, these are like
serious
performance suvs essentially right like they're making
500 horsepower
they're coming with
fucking
23 inch wheels with brembo's and carbon ceramic brakes and all that kind of stuff
You know the kind of stuff that comes with a high performance vehicle like that
You know the big brakes that tend to make a little bit of noise and it was like I saw this one tiktok and it was like
They're like backing up and the brakes were squealing a little bit and it was like some like high performance suv
and they're like
70 grand on this car in the damn brakes squeak and all the comments are like
Well, what'd you fucking expect you bought a performance suv like?
Like the price doesn't matter at that point the brakes are doing what the brakes are supposed to do
Like if you wanted something nice comfortable and quiet, you didn't need to buy that car
Now this is a crazy one that uh, I feel like this is a bunch of hoop
Lobba will see you guys think if it's real or not
It says there it's been hinted. I've never heard of this. Okay the 2026
forward Mustang
Raptor
And they got the goofiest goddamn image of this fucking overlay
Okay, okay, I was like I'm like is this going to be like just a super high performance one
But it's an off-road Mustang. This is this reminds me when we did that video of gels searching up the mazda rx9
I feel like that has a higher chance. I guess I don't know they made the the raptor version of the bronco
That was sick. Yeah, so I remember the first time seeing one of them. We were like rolling down the road
I was like, man that bronco looks fucking big
That's shit wide and then I saw like the raptor badge. I was like, holy fuck
$100,000. Yeah, we looked at I think yeah, we were like going down to like Tennessee or something
We're like what is like that thing looks that thing looks different
So like I don't know I wouldn't put it past forward. They make three million trims of the Mustang
So why wouldn't they do wrap might as well do an off-road?
I haven't heard much about that and I don't really see where that would fit in with the rest of the Mustang lineup too much
I was still looking at the Ferrari prosong way. I'm sorry
Really want to uh, I I would really like one. Yes, if I could go in that 430, you know what?
I need a boat
Bottle bakers doesn't
The one thing that I love about Ferraris are their engines
They sound magnificent and I think there's some really ugly Ferraris out there
That sound really cool that sound fantastic
And I would like to own all the ugly Ferraris because I think I have a better chance
I'm making an ugly Ferrari pretty then I do of buying a
Handsome looking Ferrari with the engine that I want because all of those ones are really fucking expensive
But you can get I think what are they called? Is it the california? There's an old like mid 2010
Uh long nose short snubby ass that came with a v12
Oh, I thought that's what you were talking about. I thought that's what that was the pro sangue
That's what I picked the one that you just talked about is what I pictured. No, the pro sangue is a beautiful
Yeah, maybe I guess I got an immaculate perfect
There's so many vowels in it. Yeah, it's it's a tough one to get used to that's the pro sangue. Oh shit
Okay. Yeah, that's not what I was thinking of
Yeah, and then Mazda made their own version that looks identical for $47,550. Oh, okay. We'll get there
Fuck man, I might put the v12 in that just put Ferrari badges on it. Yeah, no one will leave Bobby. I wouldn't know
Yeah, well, I can't pronounce it
like shit
I'm trying to think of what else any other new cars
Okay, I mean we might have said this before but after hearing all that is there anything you would be excited or would want to see from
A manufacturer doesn't necessarily need to be a reboot of an old car
But maybe you're you want to see a manufacturer pump something out. I'm I'm done with the reboots, man
Yeah, fucking make something new and put it under
Toyota is that's a hundred and fifty thousand dollar car technically so
With their eb thing
That gels hates. Yes. Yeah. Well, yeah, no, that's still an sti. It's still for wx sti
I type or whatever the fuck it is. I don't know. I
Love it. I know the nostalgia shit runs strong and it works. I'm guilty of it myself
But at some point
There's gotta be a new
Supra a new
Mustang a new
Why do you but why do you want like okay gels? Yeah, let's flip the script bub. Mm-hmm
And you can't say rotary
You have to start fresh
Mm-hmm
What do you build?
What do I build? Yeah, what would you build?
Give me the specs of the of the gels the the ga 001
the gtrst irs
Uh, what would you build? Come on hit hit me hit me with it
Honestly, like I look at the wing back that genesis did I I fuck with that heavy and I think that's dope because four-door wagon
Yeah, yeah a wagon you want a wagon. I want a power wagon
Any any manufacturer I'd be down for them to
Produce a fucking dope wagon. I'd be excited about any manufacturer doing it
It'd be just really cool though if we got like not a hundred and fifty thousand dollar wagon. That's that's the thing. It's like I
I don't know. I guess I don't know what the answer is right
But that's not for me to fucking decide that's these manufacturers to do it
But like make me something cool gel sounds so old
I
Not my problem. I just want something new and I want you to know what I want
I get what I want is I don't know what I want the Chevy thing. I'd be
I'd never mind but I'd be more excited about it if they just call it something fucking new. Why?
Because it bugs me
There's a heritage. I get it. It's just it's all marketing. Yeah, it feels gross
I guess it don't matter what you call as long as it's dope and it turns out here's what I could go for
I could go for Jeep making a reliable vehicle
Chrysler not making dog watercars. I could go for
Mazda
Maybe having a little fun in a vehicle that is not a miata. Yeah, that'd be dope. Yeah
Yeah, Mazda step it up. I would love to see Honda bring back a rear wheel drive configuration car of any kind
Yes, I would love to see
Audi get their shit back in order for a nice
Consistent quality interior and they can go back to being known for something that isn't
There were no BMWs for sale in my area
I'd love to see Porsche not be Porsche price because that's disgusting right now
um
Chevy honestly and GM
I think they're doing just fine. I think GM is doing solid. I think the Cadillac
I think the Cadillac brand is in the best position
Ever they've got the black wings. Super hot Cadillac Escalade. Super hot. They got a little EV arm
Super hot. Wait, wait. I'm interested and you made me think about something when you're saying that
So like I think Toyota has done a really good job at that like 40 to 50 thousand dollar market
And I feel like back in the day the USDM manufacturers were doing a good job with like
Focus RS, Focus ST, Chevy Cobalt SS
Dodge NSR T4, I know that's going a little bit back
Like I would love for them to get in that war again of making like entry-level sports cars
I would really like to see the USDM manufacturers get something because right now
It's like they just have this like top of the line crazy psycho shit
It's crazy because so much of that is
Derived a lot of people think that it's like bottom up with those sort of ideas
But in vehicle manufacturing from an OE side, it is so much
Determined by the key executive people in that company because if they don't see value in doing something like that
Nobody will be able to do anything like that
Like a lot of the success of the early 2000s with Dodge was Tom Gale
Like he was the one that came across and decided to make the viper out of fucking spare parts
He could find he was the one that went to SEMA and saw all the JDM cars and all the the sport compact cars
And then came back and said
We need to make something for this audience and then made the SRT4
Like those these the guy wasn't like oh just some random engineer
Like he was the guy of guys in that company that decided to do it and then he made it possible
Yeah, I want to change my answer
About what you asked me earlier. I would go back and do
What fucking scion did?
They introduced that like budget
Sports car again. Mm-hmm. So what would what would be the engine of the budget sports car? What would you do?
I honestly pull from anywhere. Honestly, if it were for me
I would finally make like a version of like the frs that came in a boosted platform
Oh, yeah, people have been asking for for literally like fucking 15 years now
So gels wants like the updated SR
Like a new turbo turbo to turbo to like it doesn't need to make fucking 500 horsepower slap 300 horsepower
In it. It's a four-cylinder turbo charge just like fucking Honda is put it in a rear-wheel drive platform
Make it a sport coupe make a four-door version if you want
Have fun with it if they put in keep it under fucking 40 grand and call it the big ale
If they put the three-cylinder turbo into a g86
And then reinforce what they need to be perfect be fun 300 horsepower. That's gotta be fun
Right, that'd be that gets you where you need to go
Like I'm looking at like, you know, what drew me to like the frs and it was like
It was well within my budget. It was a new platform
It was a ton of fun
And like most importantly it was within budget. It was heavily modifiable and it was like
Scion introduced that again
I think that that car was a great car. Scion also was a great decision by Toyota. Yeah, it was an interesting brand
We knew another scion and honestly if I look if you kind of think about it, it's like even though it is
More expensive, you know, like Hyundai has kind of done that with like their end line in a sense
Like it's not like super high tier like it's still pretty expensive for like the new stuff
But it's like they're completely new platforms that you look like the Elantra and the fucking kona end like the you know
those are completely new vehicles because they're a newer brand but like
I like that. I think it's yeah, and I think it's that's why I give a more credit to them than ever before
It's like even though like the ionic 5m the ionic 6n those cars are
So uniquely different
In the marketplace and like the totality of cars where it's like they are probably one of the most successful
affordable sport compact EV vehicles that you can buy
And they now like own this segment the segment that like didn't exist before
So I agree with the concept of like it's nice to have something fresh or something different. It's just it's just everything is very
I know it's so hard to get excited about like these newer cars that are coming out because it's like
Honda prelude it's 60,000 60 fucking thousand dollars for a 200 or 200 horsepower prelude and it's like
I don't want that. No, no one wants that
And it's like, you know talking about the genesis stuff is dope too, but it's like that's a hefty price point, you know
It's like it's it's cool. It doesn't really excite me
I think it's cool that, you know, we'll be able to see it and that they're still doing stuff
like I think it's cool that manufacturers doing stuff, but like
It seems like everything that comes out that even is even slightly exciting
is over six figures
That's what I'm saying. That's I was like bring back them entry-level sports cars. I want to see
Uh, that's where I think dodge did such a good job with it. Bring me back something. That's kind of shitty
But fun as hell. Yeah rowdy. Yeah, I'm rowdy. I can drop some money on do some bolt-ons
I want I want somebody who had a mullet
I want somebody who had a mullet to make the decision on what the powertrain was in my car
Yes, I want no mufflers from the factory type shit
Real thing by the way, yeah factory gauge pods in the a pillar
Bring back some of that stuff
Man, we were living. Yeah, those were the days. All right. With that being said, we want to say thank you so much for
