A frunk is like a trunk at the front of an EV. Since there’s no engine up there, some EVs can store things in that space—so not having one can reduce storage.
The Volkswagen Golf is a small car (a hatchback) meant for everyday driving. People talk about it when comparing what an electric version might be like because it’s a common, well-known size and style. It’s usually chosen for practicality rather than being a huge car.
Simulated gears are an EV trick that makes it feel like you’re shifting gears. It helps the car respond in a more familiar way, even though an EV usually doesn’t have real gears like a gas car.
The Lancia Beta is an older Lancia car model from the past. In the podcast, it’s being mentioned as a name that might be reused or compared to something newer. The key point is that it’s a classic model name with history.
The Kia Sportage is a small-to-medium SUV meant for normal driving and family use. In the episode, it’s simply the car the host used to get to a location for filming. Some Sportage versions can be electrified, but the main point here is it’s a practical SUV.
The Kia Stinger is a sporty-looking car with a more performance-oriented design than a typical family sedan. The podcast mentions the GTX, which is a higher trim level. It’s likely being discussed because it’s a more exciting option compared with more basic models.
The Kia EV9 GT is a faster, sportier version of Kia’s big electric SUV. The host says that when you press the GT button, it makes the car feel more grippy and more fun to drive, even though the SUV is very large.
The “GT” button is a switch that changes the car into a sportier driving mode. The host is saying it makes the SUV feel more planted and fun when you drive it hard.
“800-volt architecture” means the EV is built around a higher-voltage electrical system. That can help the car charge faster, but it depends on the rest of the hardware working well too.
A warranty is the guarantee that the company will pay for certain repairs if a problem happens. The host says Kia extended it, so owners are more protected while the issue gets fixed.
The BYD Atto II is an electric vehicle model in BYD’s lineup, and in this segment the host clarifies they drove a plug-in hybrid version rather than the EV version. That distinction matters because a plug-in hybrid can behave differently in how it drives and how efficiently it uses energy.
A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) combines an electric motor with a conventional engine and a battery that can be charged from an external power source. In practice, it can drive like an EV for short trips, but it may switch to the engine depending on battery state and driving conditions.
The Kia EV4 GT line S is a trim level of Kia’s EV4 electric model, referenced here mainly in the context of pricing and standard equipment. The discussion ties it to the same heat-pump availability issue—heat pump being limited to higher trims.
The Kia K4 is mentioned as a car the host drove in an “air trim,” where they found the interior and equipment appealing. This is presented as a comparison point for how Kia’s EV trims are equipped.
A heat pump is an HVAC system component that can move heat rather than only generating it. On EVs, it can improve efficiency in cold weather by using less electrical energy to warm the cabin and sometimes the battery.
Genesis is a luxury brand from Hyundai. The podcast is talking about whether certain features are included by default or only if you pay extra. That matters because it changes what you get when you buy the car.
The Renault Twingo is a very small car made for city driving. It’s easier to park and drive in narrow streets than bigger cars. The episode mentions it because they’re planning to drive it and talk about how it feels.
The Ford Ranger is a pickup truck, usually used for hauling things or driving on rougher roads. A plug-in hybrid version can run on electricity for short trips, then switch to fuel when needed. It’s mentioned because it’s bringing electrified power to a truck type people already use for practical jobs.
“EV only mode” means the car is driving using electricity only. The host points out that even in that mode, the car’s gears still behave in a way that feels unusual—so it’s not as simple as “no gears at all.”
The Tesla Model Y is an all-electric SUV, meaning it runs on electricity instead of gasoline. When you plug it in, it charges the battery so you can drive without fuel. The podcast is likely talking about what happens when you connect it to a charger.
They mention “Model 3” because the charging app seems to think their car is a different Tesla. If the app picks the wrong car, it can mess up charging behavior.
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact SUV, meaning it’s a taller car with more space than a hatchback. The R-Line Black Edition is a version with styling and added features. In the episode, it’s mentioned as the specific Tiguan variant the speaker is talking about.
The Volkswagen Taigo is a small crossover, meaning it’s a car with SUV-like styling but not as big as a full SUV. In the episode, it’s mentioned because the speakers are trying to keep the model names straight. It’s basically a Volkswagen model you’d look at if you want something compact.
LIVE
speaker-0: I'm Alex, he's Jim, and this is the Charging Status EV podcast. How did it mate? All good?
speaker-1: Right, how are you? Yeah. We've spent a lot of time together in the last two days, haven't we?
speaker-0: Make it sound like a bad thing. It's been quite nice.
speaker-1: And we're staying at the same hotel tonight. Ooh. Different room thug. ⁓ yeah. I've insisted on it.
speaker-0: Yeah. We've been quite busy, innit? It's just been quite a mad one.
speaker-1: So yesterday was the BYD Atto 2 launch, which we were near Heathrow for that, weren't we? And that was a long day, like getting there. And then the event and then getting home again and I actually edited the video when I got in because there's a lot going on at the moment.
⁓ yeah there is. So it was about a sixteen hour day for me I think. And then it was up early again for this one. This is a brilliant day though. This is b basically me and Alex are in the Western group of motor writers and Kia have hosted us for the day at this hotel.
They bought basically their entire fleet of cars along, ⁓ or most of them for us to take out and test and ⁓ obviously we can make some content with ⁓ if if we get the opportunity and stuff. Weather was atrocious this morning.
It's been pouring down the rain, so I have made two videos, but then not the finest work, I have to say. and I've sort of all partied out now, otherwise I'd go and re-shoot, I think. Yeah. and ⁓ then tomorrow we've got the drive day for the Western group, haven't we?
Lot lots of manufacturers turn up, they'll all bring like a couple of three cars and ⁓
speaker-1: really good thing for us is that we can probably get to speak to some manufacturers who don't normally speak to us and probably don't respond to emails and stuff. Yeah. ⁓ because obviously we can only make the videos if we have a supply of cars, but you have to find manufacturers that are happy with you being honest and sharing your true thoughts and not being prescriptive and stuff.
And ⁓ yeah, for whatever reason, not all manufacturers speak to us. So yeah. So good like really good opportunity tomorrow. So ⁓ early night tonight, I think. Yeah. If you're lucky.
speaker-0: I was feeling comfortable. Yeah, this morning I wasn't even sure I could film a proper video because it was, think one of your thumbnails, you can visibly see the rain. I was just like, I'm just going to film the entertainment guide because they seem to do quite well.
And I just wasn't sure I could film anything. Yeah. I've done one of them videos. But yeah, they've got a lot of their, like Kia is really well known for their EVs, aren't they? Yes. They've got a lot of their EV stuff here, which pretty much all of it is bang on.
speaker-1: Don't they don't really put foot wrong, do they, at the moment, with especially on the EV side of things. No. I mean, I've I've driven this morning what I think might be my favourite Kia EV so far, and that's a reasonably high bar from you know, based on what I've just said. ⁓ which is the E V four. I just think it's so well sorted. Yeah. You've driven it, haven't you?
speaker-0: I went to the launch event, which was like, I November time.
speaker-1: Yeah, I think I it was when I was in America, I think, for the SEMA show. ⁓ okay. So I missed it. I was thinking it was on holiday, but not not in November, yeah.
speaker-0: Yeah, it was good. It's a car. mean, it's the front end of it's quite sloped forward. The visibility is really good. Does me know you don't have a frunk. Yeah. So it's a bit of a shame. But you, yeah. And I think you were telling me that you think that'll be a good, the GT of that would be.
speaker-1: I think the G T will be amazing because, you know, it is a shorter wheel based car. the chassis awesome. Like it you I mean, it's supposed to be a a family hatchback, I suppose. Like the equivalent of an electric golf or something.
Yeah. But the way it corners, I mean it's bags of fun as it is. And when they put a load of power into it and give you the simulated gears, etcetera, I th I think it's gonna be amazing. That that might end up being Like an Ionic five N beta for me.
speaker-0: I always find really weird like when people talk about the three brands beating each other, they're all in the same...
speaker-1: They are, but they if you speak to ⁓ the the people at the brands, yeah, they're very much encouraged to compete with one another. You know, that's not like and yes, the the brands share things between them and everything. Yeah. But like the the guys here will will s see Hyundai as one of their key competitors. Yeah. Not not as it's brilliant, yeah. It pushes up forward.
speaker-1: Competition otherwise just have one brand, I suppose. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ but then there are others like Stellantis, they seem to be a bit more closely intertwined, don't they? Hmm.
speaker-0: They do seem a bit odd. I've not driven any EVs today. driven the Sportage to a field to film my video. And then all I've had a go at is the Kia Stinger GTX.
speaker-0: Like I remember watching that car on the grand tour in 2016 and thinking I want to have daily mat one day. today I finally done it.
speaker-1: done it. Yeah. Ten years off. Yeah. Yeah. I've wanted to drive one for a long time. And ⁓ in fact I tried to put one in when they were still on fleet. ⁓ really. And I think it's I got an email back and said they went off fleet yesterday. ⁓ no. Yeah. ⁓ Yeah, because obviously you can't get them anymore. That's obviously this is an E V podcast primarily and that's definitely not an E V, you know, three point three liter V six, I think.
speaker-0: think so, 300 horsepower maybe plus, yeah.
speaker-1: But very very playful. It's got very active rear end, a bit like me after a curry. but it's plenty of fun, plenty of fun. ⁓ and then I've also driven the E V nine G T today. Which on paper is probably one of those cars where you think, well, this doesn't need to exist. It's a a massive SEV, you know, it's five meters long, two meters wide. So And why do we need like a
speaker-1: ultra performance version of that. But then you could also say, well, why do you need a BMW X five ⁓ Yep. And there's no shortage of those around. No. And I'll tell you what, ⁓ my word. I mean I love the standard EB9. I think it's brilliant. It's awesome. ⁓ it's very big. So like if you live in Devon or Cornwall or something and you're regularly doing country lanes and things.
speaker-0: When I borrowed one, I did take it to Devon and Cornwall. Did you? And it was a bit sketchy. Yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah. ⁓ but like despite that, you get in this thing and you press that G T button, the bolsters inflate, it grips you like anything. And my word, that thing goes And and like the way it corners and stuff is a lot flatter in the corners than you'd expect it to be. Mm. And you don't I don't think you've it's such a heavy car and I don't think you feel the weight like
speaker-0: after a Which is like, that's the testament to the engineering of
speaker-1: It's incredible. Yeah. Honestly incredible. Hmm. Yeah. We've ⁓ they've got the PB five here as well, haven't they? Which no. Well Yeah. But we've both done it But ⁓ yeah, absolutely phenomenal again. And we were talking that we had the SM ⁓ T event last week and someone I was chatting to here this morning said they've driven the electric transit, the electric transporter
speaker-0: I've not had a go in yet. Subscribe to our channel.
speaker-1: and the P V five at S ⁓ T drove all three of those fans. Yep. And the P V five's getting on for half the price of the other two and it's the best one. I
speaker-0: I've driven the PB5, I've driven, I had a VWE transporter on loan a few weeks ago, a few months ago, I think, and the TransA as well. And for the money, the PB5 is so good. Yeah. I suppose not even for the money, just the fit and finish of it.
speaker-1: And like real world efficiency's Yeah. Decent. Yes. Yeah. Like really decent. In something that's shaped a bit like a brick for a fair amount of it. Yeah. ⁓ yes. Very impress by the way, this podcast is not sponsored at all. I know we're we're we're here on a Kia day and we're saying really nice things about Kia and ⁓ it's very much not we're we're just giving you our honest opinions and we drive a lot of stuff. Yeah, we do.
speaker-1: Th there is still the elephant in the room on the eight hundred volt architecture of that I C C U SU and well, I don't know where where we're at with that, I think
speaker-0: They extended the warranty? This is bad it really.
speaker-1: Yeah, but yeah, I don't think there's been any
speaker-0: I know what the problem is, it needs like some major re-engineering.
speaker-1: Needs to redevelop. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ but that's the only negative thing you can say. I mean it's it is a significant one. Yes. And but I'm sure it's something that's been addressed. And in the meantime they've extended the warranty, so I don't know how much you can really grumble about and turn around and saying something's not perfect but we're gonna look after you if it goes wrong.
Yeah. You know. So but yeah. Anyway, Kia Nice things, happy things. I've left my c ⁓ no What's my battery down to? Fifty three percent. I've got this great thing going on at the moment. I haven't got my glasses on and I've got the special hay fever eye.
speaker-0: You left your camera turned on. No. Yeah, your week's not your week, is it? No. Did you film a video yesterday? Yeah, we to redo it twice. They've driven us. ⁓
speaker-1: No. No. Yeah what my ⁓ driving impressions. ⁓ no, I just couldn't get the words out. Yeah. And ⁓ God might I've got proper hay fever right now. ⁓ no. And I've just scratched it, which will make it worse.
⁓ Yeah, I was still I I filmed the intro and the outro to the video and that was like one take and it was done. And then I'm doing the driving bit and I just couldn't get my words out. And it happened sometimes and I I end up just talking complete waffle.
I mean, you've went back you've witnessed it. Yeah. ⁓ And I was like, right, Alex, I'm just giving up on this, I'm gonna start again. And I'd what was it, eight minutes, one take, yep done. How how why?
speaker-0: smashing. Like. I know. Yeah. ⁓ you might be tiredness.
speaker-1: But what but after all, why could I then do it?
speaker-0: I've had the same thing. It's like a dry run and then you sort of, because we don't script our video, you talk, you're sort of rehearsing it a little bit and then you sort of finalise it. It's weird. Yeah.
speaker-1: Hm. Yeah, there is that. I think we can be a bit harsh on ourselves sometimes as well, but we we don't script our video.
speaker-0: They're not scripted. And yeah. ⁓ Yeah. Yeah. The most I do is just make some bullet points.
speaker-1: For better or worse. Yeah, so on the few occasions I've used a script on anything, I do it like I'm reading. And I'm even back when I had a career and everything, when I did presentations, I used to really like just using bullet points. And I could have five bullet points and talk for twenty-five minutes, but the second I had something scripted, I'd literally read it out. And
speaker-1: I don't know. It's not natural, is it? If
speaker-0: do you voiceover at home with the microphone? I script that. Yeah. And I have to read it twice because you don't end up putting the words in the right places and the commas and stuff.
speaker-1: I've seen lots lots of big YouTube channels doing car reviews. They are use it's all scripted. Yeah. But they're often trained T V presenters, aren't they? Or people that been to stage store and stuff and said, you know, I w I went to school of old knocks, mate.
speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Have you finished school yet? Last week. ⁓ He got very excited yesterday, the BYD, 'cause I I let him go in the back seat without his booster seat.
speaker-0: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. couldn't see what was happening. Yeah. The prom last week. So all done.
speaker-1: Did you like that Instagram story? I much but did you notice the song that was on it? I did. My handsome little man. Yeah.
speaker-0: ⁓ thank you so much. Yeah. Yeah. The song I put to your Instagram story said like flesh magic or something. By accident. I don't know why. Yeah. I think that's what it said. Yeah.
speaker-1: Flash matching. I think I used to have that on VHS.
speaker-0: ⁓ jeez. Yeah, thanks for that. ⁓ dear. Yeah, I must stress the Atto II we drove yesterday, it wasn't the EV version because that's already been out on sale for a
speaker-1: Yeah, no problem. Yeah, it was a it was a plug in hybrid.
speaker-1: Yeah. What did you think? 'Cause obviously I left before you'd done your driving impressions.
speaker-0: It's, drive trains really smooth drives like an EV, which is awesome. ⁓ seems quite efficient cause I, I just reset all the trips and then let it run its course and do whatever. ⁓ and the only little issue with it really is the rides a bit firm.
speaker-1: It is it is firm. Yeah. It's not as firm as some of their cars. ⁓ the Fevs particularly. Like the Seal Six, I don't remember being ⁓ sorry, the the SEAL. I don't I don't remember the seal being all that firm. I thought I thought it was actually really well sorted. I love that car. But every one of the Fevs has been. And the SEAL six, I think, was the hardest one, which is the estate car. ⁓ That felt really firm to me.
speaker-0: Let's be saloon, yeah. Yeah, I can't quite remember. I was filming a video with Chris, ⁓ totally EV. And I think cause we were talking, I wasn't really paying much attention to the, the ride comfort. I can't remember though. But yeah, no, it's, it's also not a bad looking car. Yeah. So it's quite nice. It's not offensive. It's quite a pleasing car to look at. So yeah, not bad. But yeah.
speaker-1: It was ⁓ I think the the boost trim, which gives you the bigger battery, makes by far the most sense, doesn't it?
speaker-0: But 29 grand for an 18 kilowatt hour battery, 55 miles of range, think it said. Loads of kit.
speaker-1: Yeah. That that's it. It has got literally a that's the thing with that, ⁓ with the E V four as well. I mean I was in the G T line S, which is quite punchy on the price. But it's got everything. But if you look at the air, the entry level one, actually the standard kit on it's amazing.
speaker-0: I think there was a car, ⁓ I think, I think with the Kia K4, I drove the air trim and I actually got in there thinking, this is lovely. Yeah. And I'm sure the air is the same with the.
speaker-1: It's got everything on, yeah. The the only frustration that I should mention with Kia EVs ⁓ is that still the heat pump is only an option on the top trim level. Now the ⁓ EV nine G T has got it as standard. The E ninety thousand pound car. Is it real? Yeah. Fuck jeez. ⁓ where the E V four G T line S, which is forty three four?
speaker-1: That's still a nine hundred pound option, which you can only get on the tom tri top trim level. So Yeah, I think it maybe make it an option on the lower levels and include it on the top trim or or just give us it on everything. 'Cause we're in England.
speaker-0: Disappointing. I don't understand because like the Hyundai vehicles and the Genesis vehicles get it as standard. When you pay, what is it, 22 grand for an inch stuff, you get a heat pump. Yeah. Weird.
speaker-1: Yep. Be interested to see what they do with E V two. Mm because obviously that's not dissimilar to the
speaker-0: So really it's not much bigger. ⁓ I love the look of that.
speaker-1: Yeah, I do. I'd really like the look of that. Yeah. that's one of those cars where I think that would be perfect for me as a car for you know, when I haven't got a press car or ⁓ that would really do the job. So Yeah.
speaker-0: Sounds good. And small cars, I think we've said this before, they just have more personality. Yeah. Because large SUVs are just a bit...
speaker-1: Which is weird 'cause you're a small person and you've got less personality. Yeah. So ironically
speaker-1: I do love him really, I'd just like to get up.
speaker-0: It's good job we're not employed at the same place.
speaker-1: Yeah, it is. Yeah. What yeah. Yeah. That's why I had to leave the corporate world. It was a monster. No. That's cool. That we'll actually drive a twingo. Yeah.
speaker-1: I'm I'm really excited by it. And I'm really excited to s speak to Renault. What about it? Maybe I might get a car at some point, maybe almost. Yeah. That's a shame 'cause like Renault's one of those it is one of those brands that frustrates me because they've had some really good cars out recently. The E V thing's been groundbreaking for them. It's really put them back on the map. It has. And there've been some really great lease deals on the stuff as well. And you think
speaker-1: Like if ever there's a brand I want on the channel at the moment, it's Reno, even if I think they're put, at least I can tell you about them with some sort of, you know, kind of experience and I was gonna say authority, but but instead of just saying, ⁓ this looks good on paper Yeah.
⁓ so yeah, it's been a bit of a frustrating one. But hopefully that will all end tomorrow. Yeah. And they'll say, Jim, where have you been all our lives? Please have some cards and speak about them honestly.
speaker-0: Yeah, it's difficult because, yeah, especially Renault, they've had some fairly, I want to say, very middle of the road cars for a long time. And as you say, the EV thing for them is just sort of put a spark in the brand again. Yeah. It's great. ⁓
speaker-1: ⁓ what else are we looking forward to tomorrow?
speaker-0: So there's a few other things as well. Have you driven an Ineos before? You should definitely have a go at that.
speaker-1: No. I'm not that interested to be honest. You not? No. No. I'm not bothered. Hmm. I don't know. Maybe I should be, but
speaker-0: It's got a solid... I know it's almost like a knockoff of a Defender. Yeah. Which... yeah. It's a very solid car though. It's very well built. ⁓ It's got a BMW gearbox, BMW engine.
speaker-1: I've heard nothing but good things, but they just don't interest me. ⁓ there is the ⁓ Flandrove Defender Okta there tomorrow, which is punk.
speaker-0: 150 grand they are. Nice big V8 in that.
speaker-1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's that's what I'm looking forward to is the the Grande Panda.
speaker-0: ⁓ is that the electric one? Yeah. It says La Prima.
speaker-1: I'm guessing it's the electric one, but there's no guarantee. Well
speaker-1: The Alpha Romeo Jr. The Electrica Sports Speciale. Very ⁓ Peugeot E three ⁓ eight G T Fauxil Mocha Electric G S E, which I think is the spicy one in the
speaker-0: Nice. There's the new one, like the green and yellow accenting.
speaker-1: ⁓ Toyota C H R Plus, Insta again. quite a lot to have a look at. Mm. Yeah. The Ford Ranger plug in hybrid's gonna be there as well.
speaker-0: Lots of EVs. Yeah. I reviewed that recently. did you? Yeah. Right. Yeah. I thought it was quite good. Yeah. In my review, I said it was weird because I gather this is quite a normal thing, but the electric motor has been put in between the gearbox and the engine. And it means that when you're in EV only mode, the gears that you actually change in gear. It's weird. Yeah. It's weird. I don't know if that has any efficiency implications.
speaker-1: That's mad. I mean there must be a reason to do it.
speaker-0: It's because of the four-wheel drive system. ⁓ okay. It means that they won't have to...
speaker-0: Yeah, but if you're designing a, you wouldn't do that if you're designing an EV pickup truck from ground. No. Hmm. Yeah.
speaker-1: No. No, no way. ⁓ I suppose that's about it, really, isn't it?
speaker-0: Yeah, are you driving anything interesting this week?
speaker-1: I've got the G V sixty ⁓ performance. That's very interesting. That goes like a train. It's lovely inside. yeah, I just I need to find a time and it's not raining to ⁓ to shoot.
speaker-0: So I say yes then? Yes! with that one. I think they're to say you need to find some money of that level in your life.
speaker-1: Well that that would help, wouldn't it? Yeah. ⁓ but yeah, that's a that's a very nice thing. Randomly though, plugged it in last night. Yeah. It only charges charged to seventy four percent, which is annoying. So I'm I need the range like for the next couple of days. ⁓ I mean I'll only need to rapid charge for ten minutes somewhere, and it's on eight hundred volts, so yeah. That's all well and good. But as this
speaker-1: Weird thing. Like Octopus have changed up and Omi have changed up. And I think it likes now on the OMI app, it seems to like you to have your car. So it knows whether I've plugged in the model three or the model Y, but when I've got AN other car, it wants that to be the ⁓ model Y. And I think it might have cut it off 'cause it thinks the model Y is at hundred percent. 'Cause I've seen or I'm not I'm not a hundred percent sure or it just
speaker-1: It maybe does when you start and it thinks, ⁓ it's at this Yes. Ask you to confirm the same charging the battery and I've just been avoiding it. But whatever, it's just made the whole process worse. Yeah. I never used to get into a car in the morning and find it hadn't fully charged and I've had it twice now.
speaker-0: Yeah, it does sound like an edge case because not many people have a clear edge week. but that actually makes sense because it would sort of use how much battery a planet and then yeah.
speaker-1: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well I'd rather it just said, I'm gonna fill this until it stops. Yeah. You know. Like I say it's not something that affects too many people but no. it does feel a bit like over engineering.
speaker-0: But, that'd it. Yeah. I've got the Tiguan, what's it called? The Tiguan R-Line Black Edition, I think it's called. Yeah. Quite a big car actually. It's large. And it's one of those cars that you don't notice them on the road until you drive said car. They're everywhere.
speaker-1: Yeah, it is, isn't it? Everywhere. It's do you know the Tig One I think is the biggest selling VW.
speaker-1: I'm sure they've sold like nine million of them worldwide or something like that. Yeah. ⁓ it's nuts. Well certainly the biggest selling SUV. Yes. Yeah, let's not make too much for a sweeping statement. I kn I know for sure it's their biggest selling SUV. ⁓ but I don't know, currently I I don't know what golf sales is
speaker-1: But in ⁓ in other countries they were crazy numbers of them and yeah. ⁓
speaker-0: But I was surprised how many there are. And the screen is massive. It's like 15 inches.
speaker-1: And it like one of the things people often say to me, friends and stuff, will say, ⁓ we like I went to the T Rock launch the other week, one of my mates said, ⁓ God, is that another VW SUV? And I'm like, Yeah, it's been around for a long time. He's like, ⁓ is it? And ⁓ Yeah. Like, yeah, they've sold about two million off of that thing. Yeah. And and th then he's like, Why do they have so many SUVs? Well, they sell shitloads of SUVs. Basically.
speaker-1: Which Mike tells me is Tyron. Tyron. You should say Tyron, but it's spelled Tayron. Hmm. ⁓ here comes ⁓ podcast Podcast Occasional ⁓ contributor, Paul Gorn. Hello, hello, hello. ⁓ the Davely Travis of the motor industrial. You're too young. Yeah. ⁓ what you mate, what have you driven? Not bad. So today I've driven the E V four, the K four.
speaker-0: Just a few then. Yeah. You're old enough to drive this thing.
speaker-1: Five cars of Old enough, no. No, they don't let him actually once killed a man. Pause that
speaker-0: Paul was actually 24 but he's had a hard life.
speaker-1: Tell of a paper on that wasn't On that note, I think we'll wrap it up. Go and watch Go and watch Gorn in sixty seconds. I mean he's on it, but aside from that it's alright. Thanks Jabson.
speaker-0: Yeah, all good. Alright, yeah, all good. ⁓ Please like this video on YouTube and subscribe.
speaker-0: follow and subscribe on Apple podcasts and that sort of stuff and I guess we'll see you again sometime soon. Bye bye.
About this episode
The hosts kick off with a busy EV press-trip recap, then zero in on Kia’s lineup. Jim praises the Kia EV9 GT’s GT mode grip and flatter cornering, while also flagging an unresolved concern around its 800-volt ICCU/SU architecture—tempered by Kia’s warranty extension. They also discuss Kia EV4 practicality (no frunk) and why an EV4 GT with simulated gears could be “amazing,” plus quick notes on heat pumps, upcoming reviews, and fast-charging quirks on 800-volt systems.
Alex and Jim are in person to talk about the day spent driving the latest Kia EVs, such as the new Kia EV4 and Kia EV9 GT. Also, the pair chat about recent BYD launch events and what electric vehicles they are reviewing next.
