"...holding the right side bumper together? Do you know anything about that?"
A bumper is the part of a car at the front and back that helps protect it during small accidents. It helps keep the car safe from damage.
A bumper is a protective component located at the front and rear of a vehicle. It is designed to absorb impact and protect the car's body in minor collisions.
"If you've not yet gotten in, gotten your vehicle scheduled for a winter evaluation, I'm telling you, it's money well spent."
A winter evaluation is like a check-up for your car before winter. It makes sure everything is working well so you don't have problems when it's cold outside.
A winter evaluation is a thorough inspection of a vehicle to ensure it's ready for cold weather conditions. This typically includes checking fluids, battery health, and tire condition to prevent issues during winter driving.
"If they're all good, get them to test your battery. Let's make sure you're not going to have dead battery at some point..."
The battery is what helps start your car and powers things like the lights and radio. In winter, it's important to check it because cold weather can make batteries weaker.
The battery in a vehicle provides the electrical power needed to start the engine and run electrical systems. It's crucial to have a functioning battery, especially in cold weather, as low temperatures can reduce battery performance.
"Get the fluids, air filters, fuel filter. If your vehicle is equipped with a fuel filter, get it out of there, put a new one in..."
The fuel filter cleans the fuel that goes into your car's engine. Changing it regularly helps your car run better and saves gas.
A fuel filter is a component in a vehicle's fuel system that removes contaminants from the fuel before it reaches the engine. Regularly replacing the fuel filter helps ensure optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency.

A cabin filter is designed to filter the air that comes into the interior of a vehicle through the heating and air conditioning system. It helps to remove dust, pollen, and other pollutants, ensuring cleaner air for passengers.
"I cut a hole perfectly above my fuel tank to get the fuel pump out because the day I came back..."
The fuel pump moves fuel from the tank to the engine so that the car can run. If it doesn't work, the engine won't get the fuel it needs.
The fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel from the tank to the engine at the correct pressure. It is a crucial component for the engine's performance and efficiency.
"...even though it's digitally injected, we can flood the pants off the digital fuel injected motor. Yes. And then it's very, very rough to try and get it started afterwards."
A fuel injected motor is a type of engine that uses technology to mix fuel with air for better performance. If too much fuel gets in, it can make the engine hard to start, like when a car won't turn over.
A fuel injected motor uses electronic fuel injection (EFI) to deliver fuel directly into the combustion chamber or intake manifold, optimizing fuel efficiency and performance. However, if too much fuel is injected, it can flood the engine, making it difficult to start.
"...we got end up, it'll get towed in. We pull the plugs out, all of them, they're soaked in fuel."
When a car can't start, it might need to be pulled by a truck to a mechanic. This is called being 'towed in.'
When a vehicle is unable to start or operate, it may need to be towed to a repair facility for diagnosis and repair. This is often necessary when the issue is severe, such as flooding the engine.
"Okay, next, brakes. Again, we're talking about last chance."
Brakes are the parts of a car that help it slow down or stop. They are very important for keeping the car safe while driving.
Brakes are a crucial component of a vehicle, allowing it to slow down or stop safely. They can be disc or drum types, and their performance is vital for vehicle safety.
"...the lady is driving the beater and the fellow is driving the nice car. And I can't tell you the number of times I took the fellow aside..."
A 'beater' is a cheap car that you don't mind getting dirty or scratched. It's usually not very fancy and is just for getting around.
A 'beater' refers to an inexpensive, often older car that is used for daily driving without concern for its condition or appearance. It's typically not a car that the owner is particularly attached to.

$500 beauties
"Is that you can still have what I used to call the $500 beauties. And it's decent because the mechanics are done, you know, all this important stuff."
'$500 beauties' are cheap cars that might not look perfect but have some charm. They're usually old and affordable, making them fun for people who like unique cars.
The term '$500 beauties' refers to cars that are inexpensive, often costing around $500, and may not be in perfect condition but have some charm or character. These cars are typically seen as budget-friendly options for those who appreciate older or unique vehicles.
"But here's what I'm talking about. Brakes, yeah, the outside brake pad looked good until you pulled the wheels off. There was nothing left on the inside."
A brake pad is a part of the car that helps stop it when you press the brake pedal. If the pad is too worn down, the car won't stop as well, which can be dangerous.
The brake pad is a crucial component of a vehicle's braking system that provides the friction needed to slow down or stop the vehicle. It's important to regularly check the condition of brake pads, as worn pads can lead to decreased braking performance and safety issues.
"Because when we have unequal braking, it doesn't matter whether your four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, sometime real-wheel drive, real-time four-wheel drive, traction control."
Unequal braking means that some wheels of the car stop better than others. This can make the car hard to control and can be unsafe.
Unequal braking refers to a situation where the braking force is not evenly distributed across all wheels, which can lead to handling issues and potentially cause the vehicle to skid or lose control. This can happen due to worn brake pads or other brake system issues.
"ABS, same thing. If the brakes can't grab and release on ABS because they're not working right..."
ABS helps your car stop without skidding. It keeps the wheels from locking up, so you can still steer while braking hard.
ABS stands for Anti-lock Braking System, a safety feature in vehicles that prevents the wheels from locking up during braking. This allows the driver to maintain steering control during hard stops, especially on slippery surfaces.

Good morning Niagara, you're tuned to Car Connection where the coffee's hot, the tools
are ready and the talk is always tuned up.
I'm your host, Niall Motormouth Jenkins, coming to you straight from the Car Connection Workshop
where we mix a little humor, a little know-how, and a whole lot of horsepower.
Here it's not just about fixing cars, it's about keeping you rolling, saving you money
and giving you the confidence to understand what's under that hood.
From the classics to the commuters, the weird noises to that what the heck moments, we've
got you covered.
So grab your coffee, put it in the cup holder, make sure it's secure, sit back, watch the
other guy, you know who I'm talking about, and join the crew because this is Car Connection.
Your weekday, Saturday morning, pit stop for stories, smarts, and a few good laughs.
I'm Niall Motormouth Jenkins and we're shifting into drive this morning right here in the
Car Connection Workshop.
So thanks for joining us this morning.
Before we get started, I do sound a little better this morning, I have to say.
So for all of you still fighting the winter weather forecast as far as colds go, my heart
goes out to you.
This has been a few weeks now.
So let's start off the morning.
If you haven't been a part of our Car Connection Workshop morning crew, we like to have a
swiggy together.
So get your morning beverage ready.
If you've got that, if you're just going through the drive-through, getting your takeout, remember
always check your order, just saying.
So we count it down on three, two, one, and we have our morning swiggy together.
Ready?
Three, two, one.
Hmm.
Man, that's so good.
That should almost be illegal.
I can't have hot coffee right now because of this dang tooth that I'm dealing with and
it's 10 times worse than after yesterday.
I'll share the story later on once I get out the other side.
Unbelievable.
You know, what does it mean when your dentist is standing there looking at you and saying,
what would you like me to do?
We'll just pull over and park that and talk about it later.
Right now I got a face like a freaking hamster that's eating a half a bag of sunflower seeds
and the problem has, it's not better, it's 10 times worse.
You ever had that?
Yeah.
You've got to know your limitations.
Can we have another swiggy together?
Do you think so?
Yeah.
I've got to have warm coffee because it just ain't happening on the hot side.
All right, let's jump right in this morning.
We've got a ton of things to get through.
Don't forget to find all the links to connect with us after 31 years on radio, network radio,
and now on podcasts and I'm just starting to get in the groove here.
It's a little different, I have to say, and there's some quirkiness that you have to deal
with because it's all electronic and digitals, so I'm working on that and with X we've got
to work on bringing some of my guests in so that you can hear from them as well and line
up some topics to cover with guests and yeah, we've got tons of stuff to do.
My mind is swollen like a bowl of oatmeal trying to absorb all the knowledge, so our
website is carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com.
The short form is CCBUS is in SAMNET.com, CCbusnet.com.
On the whole page you'll see all the logos for all the businesses that I put my stamp
of the seal, my seal of a stamp, my seal, no, my stamp of approval on they've been part
of carconnection radio with us for a number of years and they continue to support us to
bring this podcast over all platforms and we want to thank them for doing that.
So on our homepage you'll see their logos, click on the logo, it opens your profile page
and the top right hand corner you'll see all the links for YouTube, Facebook, Instagram,
Steven'svilleontheweb.ca, iHeartRadio and our merch store and the story behind our
merch store is not so that I can get another shiny thing because I don't need that.
You know, how much stuff is enough?
You know what I thought I should have invested in years ago?
Maybe you, maybe you alongside storage units.
Yeah, because you get so much stuff that you got to find somewhere to put your stuff
and then you're making a monthly payment to house your stuff.
Do you really know what's in there after like three years, six months?
And my theory is this, if I haven't been tearing the house apart for the last six months looking
for it, I probably don't need it, right? Exactly.
So that's where you can connect with us anytime.
You can email me through Steven'svilleontheweb.ca, click on the businesses tab
and it opens our profile page there.
I love being tied in with the businesses in Steven'sville.
Some great eateries there, some wonderful family owned and operated businesses
and my pops lives there has for well over 40 plus years.
So I got friends there as well.
So make sure you say hello to my friends at Scuttlebutts.
That's one of my favorite eateries.
Just give me a second here as I clear my throat.
Wow, you know, you still get, you ever get that annoying tickle where it's like,
yeah, I'm about ready to hack my eyeballs out across the room in just about 30 seconds.
Exactly. Yeah, you got to get rid of that annoying tickle right away.
It's like a service light, the check engine light, the money light.
When that comes on, you got to get rid of that right away.
So you put a picture of your favorite mother-in-law or father-in-law up there or rabbit.
What's the weirdest one I've seen?
Something I couldn't even identify.
I actually have to ask the customer, what did you put over the service light?
Oh, you noticed.
I go, yeah, well, the computer tells me service light is on.
Check engine lights on.
And I'm like, what is that?
Well, it's kind of personal.
Okay. Next, we just leave that alone.
So that's the best way for you to connect with me anytime at night or day is through our website
ccbusnet.com. When you buy and grab some of our car connection merch to be part of the motormouth
crew, you're actually supporting people being able to get to Total Freedom Darien Center,
New York, and Total Freedom Sydney, Manitoba, Canada.
That's a men-only campus.
It's a campus where you'll receive your new life because it's waiting for you there.
So if you or someone you know, struggling through an addiction, we want to help them to get
that help, that olive branch, so that hand up, not a handout.
So that's what that's all about.
So when you're buying merch and show it off, yeah, do a selfie, send it to us.
We love that kind of stuff.
Be a come and be part of our car connection crew.
So let's just say a quick thank you to the program partners that make not only our YouTube
channel available to you, it's Nile Motormouth Jenkins.
Again, the links are all on the homepage top right hand corner.
And I always put them into the description of each YouTube video, which teaches you the
five things.
Remember, if you're just joining us, you probably don't know what it is, where it is,
how it works, how it breaks, and what and how could I have learned some stuff to prevent
those things from breaking or learn how to better use them or learn how to better use
my automobile, because if you play hard, you pay hard.
And always remember, when you are filling out the work order at the service desk,
check on them.
You got to make sure they're doing their job, because I'll tell you today,
people seem to only want to do the basics.
They don't, and I've noticed that in parts, when I call and I ask for like a left-handed
nose inhaler, it's like, oh, that's going to be too much work.
We don't have time to look that up.
That never used to happen.
They'd go out of their way to find that part.
You're using, oh, well, just search the interwebs.
This is the stuff we're putting up with that we're not used to in the service base.
So when you check your vehicle in, make sure that all the items are concerned.
So in other words, what's this car doing to me right now that's of concern?
It's a noise.
It's a rattle.
It's a squeak.
The brakes don't feel right.
The pedals kind of low.
All those things, you want to make sure that they write them all down.
So the concerns all need to be on the invoice.
And make sure they're written in and that the interpretation from you to the service advisor
to the work order is complete.
Don't assume, we all know what that means, right?
I can't say that on public radio.
I don't think you can.
But this is a family show.
So all concerns are written down exactly the way you told that person.
Next, cause.
Don't give them an open ticket.
What does that mean?
Cause means they're going hunting to find out what the component or the cause is of
what the number of concerns you've given them.
So if it's five items, two items, one item, make sure that you don't give them an open ticket
to spend four hours diagnosing.
And then you get one of these at the end of the day, the five o'clock surprise.
It wasn't supposed to be that much.
So you're the boss, applesauce.
So when it comes to dyag, here's what I like to instruct.
One hour, I'm giving you one hour and then I want a phone call.
Okay.
Thirdly, correction.
What are, and this is where you have to have that communication.
Customer wants a phone call to discuss all the details with regards to every single part
that needs to be a service replaced or other before finishing.
Not after, not letting you know after the car is all done.
Okay.
This prevents you from being taken for a ride.
So number four, correction.
And here's where you say the service advisor, please make sure that the vehicle is road tested
and verified that it's fixed so I don't have problems on my way home.
Because that happens a lot.
There isn't a week goes by when someone tells me, oh, I just had the car in the shop
on the way home.
The noise is still there.
Exactly the same.
So let's try and avoid that.
And how do we do that?
By the instructions I just gave you.
Use them wisely.
I'll tell you, it will save a lot of stress.
So thank you to Crystal Ridge Dream Center in Crystal Beach, Ontario,
serving men and women, children, meals, love, hope and changing lives.
One at a time in the Niagara region doing a fabulous job.
They have over 60 plus volunteers, but they're feeding over 200 people Tuesdays and Fridays
out the door.
That's amazing.
It's like skyrocketing.
So if you can help them out, click on their link for their logo, open their profile page,
do something.
$5 a week, $2 a week, some gift cards for the grocery store.
I'll tell you what, they know how to take a nickel and hammer it into a dollar.
They do not waste any money.
And the Christmas time is coming up.
They have food hampers and toys for all the families that are struggling.
It's crazy over the top.
Amazing what they do.
This time of year they go above and beyond.
So let's take them under our wing and let them know how much we love and be a part of
that community and change lives and do the stuff that we may not necessarily have the time to do.
So they are a faith-based nonprofit organization and you will receive a tax receipt for anything
over $25.
Earl and Louise Grant, they're like my second family.
Husband and wife team been in the car business 25 plus years.
They've got lots of resources to find that special vehicle that you're looking for.
They do carry a good inventory.
But if they don't have what you're looking for, don't walk away.
Say, Earl, Louise, I'm looking for this.
So at City Auto Sales and Leasing, not only can they help you with financing,
but they provide nothing but low mileage quality vehicles at fair prices.
They sell no junk.
Earl is extremely fussy.
And that's the only reason why when we connected years ago,
I brought them on board.
I'd actually wipe my hands of all car lots because of you know why.
I don't need to go through a big spiel on that.
But you can buy with confidence and be treated with nothing but honesty and integrity.
Up at Scarborough, Ontario, you've got Rainbow Motors and Garage,
with Rita and Ramiz Shinuta, the brothers up there taking care of sales and service
that you can trust on all years, makes and models.
They have a car lot there.
They do carry an inventory.
Again, they don't sell any junk.
If you're looking for something specific, let them know.
They have the resources.
Let them do the legwork because they know how to pick them.
Unless you take a mechanic with you, you know what?
It's easy to get bit because here's the thing.
When you're buying a vehicle privately, they lie pretty much most of the time.
They lie.
I've experienced it just a couple of years ago.
I had them right there in the palm of my hand and I asked one question and they stood there
and they lied.
So then I knew I needed to check the car over even tighter.
I was there two hours and I was watching the reaction when I got close to things that they
knew were hidden.
And I go, oh, what's with the cardboard, bondo, and duct tape holding the right side
bumper together?
Do you know anything about that?
And the husband says, oh, it's my wife's car.
I'll have to go in the house and ask her.
I said, would you mind?
He comes back.
Here's what he said.
Oh, she doesn't know anything about that.
There you go.
To our certified financial planning professionals, Tony Miele, Larry Tietro, folks,
I can't stress enough, connect with them.
Get that hour and a coffee that they've extended because they're my brothers from other mothers.
They're my personal financial planners as well as they're like family to me.
They are like brothers to me.
They've got 50 years experience together and you are in good hands with Tony Miele, Larry
Tietro, 50 years plus as fiduciaries with IG wealth management.
They look after portfolios.
If you've got investments in banks, you need to yank them out of there and get them in the
hands of these fellows because then you will make money on your money while you're sleeping.
They deal with debt, estate planning, mortgages, life insurance, critical illness insurance,
and I have all of that with them and I've been with them for decades.
And I'll tell you what, if I can put you in my head for 30 seconds, you go on there just like that.
So connect, book your hour and a coffee discovery meeting and get answers to your questions,
as my professor always said.
If the person giving you advice is not where you want to be, yeah.
Next, smile, nod, move on and just be respectful.
And to Niagara Block at 5,000 Montrose Road in Niagara Falls, a Grimoire family,
you will love it there.
They've been building Canada since 1931.
If you've got a building project or you're looking to create that oasis in your backyard
for next year, hardscape, landscaping materials that are absolutely outstanding.
And customer service off the charts.
All right, so let's jump in this morning.
Yes, I do have another motormouth winter tech tip for you, number 26.
If you're writing these down, let the co-pilot know.
Grab the crayons and the brown paper bag out of the glove box, take some notes here.
Are you ready for it?
Here you go.
Cold mornings?
No, is that it?
Yeah, I think it is.
No, sorry, I gave you the wrong one.
It's 27, that's why I never liked math.
And I do a lot of math with automotive.
It never stops.
Formulas and figuring out swept volume and things like that.
It's just, it's over the top.
Here it is, it's right here under my nose.
Don't wait until the first snowstorm to realize your wipers are useless as a screen door on
a submarine.
Let's change them now before you're guessing what lane you're in.
And you know what, yesterday I saw exactly that.
I did, I did, I did, I did.
I saw a vehicle where you just brushed it off.
I was sitting there in a parking lot actually.
I just came out of the deli with a sandwich.
Yeah, and it was only like an hour before going to the dentist and I'm going like,
I think I'm going to put something in the pie hole just in case I can't talk for the next 10 days
or eat nothing but soup.
Yeah, soup is a beverage, don't you think?
Shouldn't it be qualified as a beverage?
Put that in the comments on our YouTube channel.
Do you think soup is a food or is it actually a beverage?
I want to know what you think.
And anyways, what is your favorite soup drink?
I like beef barley.
Yeah, it's a little lumpy, but it's still soup.
And tomato soup, exactly.
So let's move on.
Are you ready for the topic today?
I hope it doesn't scare you too much, but I will always put it out there in front of you.
So just remember, get those wipers changed.
This guy's pulling away.
He brushes off his car, sort of, kind of maybe.
I was watching and I'm going, well, I guess that's clean to you.
And then he sort of kind of cleaned the windshield
and then put his wipers on and they were totally useless.
I'm going, wow, that is going to be a technique of driving
once he gets into some kind of winter event.
So remember, folks, be safe.
Keep it under 100.
Stay tuned for another motormouth winter tech tip.
Today's topic.
You ready for it?
Here it is.
Last call.
Winter's coming.
Have you been looking outside?
I don't know in your area, but in our area on the south shore of Lake Erie,
it's been snowing.
It's been snowing for two days.
How about you?
That's just me spraying anti cough sauce and it really works.
I got it from my homeopath.
It does work.
It's called Vapo Gorge.
A couple of shots, shuts down the hack just like that fiery throat.
Yeah, they don't pay me for this.
I'm just telling you, I didn't know this stuff existed.
And I was up there at my homeopath and I said, hey, Tom,
I got a throat on fire like the hottest hot sauce,
including a dozen scotch bonnets.
He goes, here, you need this.
Boom.
He goes, get that in there.
Four sprays.
Shoot it in there.
Boom.
Shuts it down just like that.
I'll put a link for you in the description of this video because it does work.
It's crazy good.
Crazy, crazy good.
See that?
The hack is gone.
So what am I going to be talking about with regards to that?
Last call.
Winter's coming.
Well, I got some topics here.
I got my motor mouth other tech tips to share with you that'll help you out there.
And I have been a licensed tech since 1988.
I've been in this trade.
I started in this trade when I was 13.
I'm just a little over 400 now.
No, not really.
I'm not as old as dirt, but I might be as old as a worm.
I have the science is still out on that.
Well, let's start with last chance to make certain all is good.
Okay.
Here where the car connection workshop and studio is located,
it's been snowing for the last couple of days and through the night as well.
So it looks like winter down here.
I don't know if that same can be said for where you live,
but you know what it means?
It's coming.
It's coming your way.
And at some point, if you feel while it's snowing here on the south shores of Lake Erie,
it may be sunny and blue sky where you are.
And I've experienced that before being in Niagara Falls for the day that sunny blue sky
and get a phone call from my neighbor says,
where are you?
I go, I'm in the falls doing some customer service.
Oh, are you coming back to Fort Erie anytime soon?
I go, well, probably within the next hour.
Why?
Well, be careful because it's really, really rough down here.
It's like super nasty.
Visibility is none.
I go, really?
And I'm looking around.
I'm in the falls, blue sky, sun is shining, gorgeous day.
And I get back to Fort Erie.
Oh my gosh.
And that was the Rubicon.
I got to about Sodom Road, Stevensville, and I'm like driving along going,
what is going on here?
So that's the type of thing I'm trying to warn you to prepare for.
Maybe nice in your area, but we have winter right now and it has arrived and it's cold
and things are frozen.
So last chance to make certain all is good.
If you've not yet gotten in, gotten your vehicle scheduled for a winter evaluation,
I'm telling you, it's money well spent.
Get the fluids all checked, tested, checked, verified.
If they're all good, get them to test your battery.
Let's make sure you're not going to have dead battery at some point because if the battery
tests with our electronic testers or even with my non-digital tester, I can tell you
whether your battery is going to fail on the first cold snap.
But we've had some cold nights already here on the south shores of Lake Erie.
It's been cold enough to freeze the knots off a tree, they say.
It's true.
So winter evaluation, this is your last chance to make it all happen so you don't get caught.
Get the fluids, air filters, fuel filter.
If your vehicle is equipped with a fuel filter, get it out of there, put a new one in
because you're probably already going fuel filter, do I have that?
Not all vehicles have an external fuel filter.
I can't help you with that because they're inside the tank.
It's a great engineering feat, absolutely.
Stunning, stunning.
I don't know how they came up with that.
Just exactly what kind of medication do you need to take to come up with that brilliant idea?
Let's put the fuel filter in the tank.
Yeah, and then build the car completely around it.
Yeah, I made a hatch actually on our 07 FJ Cruiser because I, a few years back, drove all the way to
London, hit a massive snowstorm up there.
I mean, again, it was sunny and blue sky in Hamilton and I pulled off for fuel and a pee break.
And a guy says, which way are you going?
I'm going 401 West.
Oh, well, it's pretty rough up there right now.
He said there's a major car pile up.
And I said, well, that's pretty much common for 401 West.
Yeah, the Wild West.
He goes, no, it's really ugly up there.
He was right.
It was ugly times 10.
It was gruesome.
So you want to be prepared for those kinds of things.
And how do you do that?
You got to have a technician that you can say, hey, I want all my fluids tested,
verified, power steering, brake fluid, transmission, differential, air filter,
engine air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter.
Does my vehicle have a cabin filter?
Does it have an external fuel filter?
Get it changed.
So anyways, I cut a hole perfectly above my fuel tank to get the fuel pump out because the day I
came back, parked it, and I only had owned it at that time about a month.
And it was like, I bought this thing from one owner.
Have you ever had this happen?
You buy it and then there's this thing, then another thing, then something else goes wrong.
And then you're going, one more and the for sale sign goes in the dash.
Yeah, I was at that point.
So was up in London all day battling the snow.
It was hell to get back home in one piece.
Visibility was zero.
When you're slicing drifts off and they're coming up the hood and your wipers are hitting them
next, it's not funny.
And so I backed it in, went to start it next morning, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank,
nothing.
I mean, nothing.
It's not, there's no fire in the hole.
The fuel pump quit.
And when I got in there, I'm going, I am not dropping the gas tank, the middle winner outside.
No.
So I measured it out and I cut it open very carefully under the back seat and I made a
hatch there.
So now if I want to get to my intake fuel filter, which the engineers say it never plugs up,
it was plugged solid and it overheated the fuel pump and the pump blew the positive terminal
right off of it.
It totally obliterated it.
And isn't that amazing?
I was on the road all day in the Wild West, 401 West London,
backed in at home and that's when that happened, it quit.
So now I can get into my fuel tank and deal with that filter, but not everybody's going
to do that.
So you need to ask your service tech two things.
Is my vehicle equipped with a cabin air filter?
Yes, no.
Is my vehicle equipped with a external fuel filter?
Yes, no.
And if it's yes, you just say change it, please.
If I got to go in there and inspect it, you're getting a new one because that means nobody's
been in there for a long time.
We change it out.
That's what we do.
That way there's no problems.
You want all the air flow you can get in the cabin area so you can defrost and keep yourself
in your occupants nice and warm.
You want lots of oxygen getting to the engine so it doesn't have an opportunity to flood
itself out because even though it's digitally injected, we can flood the pants off the digital
fuel injected motor.
Yes.
And then it's very, very rough to try and get it started afterwards.
A lot of times we got end up, it'll get towed in.
We pull the plugs out, all of them, they're soaked in fuel.
Chances of getting that to start can sometimes be almost impossible.
Okay, next, brakes.
Again, we're talking about last chance.
This is the last chance to get your vehicle in the shop and get it ready before you get
caught out on the roadways.
And we see people, that happens to them every single year.
I've been licensed since 1988.
Nothing has changed.
So I'm hoping I can help you change your mindset about, you know what, get it in.
I don't want to get stranded somewhere.
And I don't want to see you stranded somewhere because you know what, if I was a woman and
I'm not, I'm a fella, I would find that very intimidating.
That's why I used to, at our shop at Jenkins Automotive on the Hamilton Mountain,
we were there from 92 until the new millennium, I think, and beyond.
Yeah, above and beyond.
We were there 11 years until my health slid back and blew my back out really bad.
It was dumb lifting carpet and working long hours.
Anyhow, I would see husband and wife like really going at it, not that.
Intense moments of serious fellowship because the lady is driving the beater and the fellow
is driving the nice car.
And I can't tell you the number of times I took the fellow aside and go, you know what,
do you love her?
Do you really, really love your wife?
Yeah, but and I go, no, no, but do you really love your wife?
Yes.
Then you drive the beater fella.
You give her the nice car, that's reliable, you take the beater.
Well, why should I do that?
I said, because you're the fella.
You know, if it breaks down on you, you know how to handle it.
If it breaks down on her, that's intimidating.
A woman stranded with a car that's a piece of junk.
The fella drives the junk.
So I just wanted to share that with you because ladies, make sure you got the nice car.
And if the fella says, well, you know, I commute further, who cares?
You give her the nice car, you take the junk because it's just going to get beat up anyway,
even more.
So you also got to make sure that your beater's, your beater car or your collector's car.
Yeah, you know, you drive in a mile, go back, collect a piece, drive another mile, go back,
collect another piece.
It's a collector's car.
Is that you can still have what I used to call the $500 beauties.
And it's decent because the mechanics are done, you know, all this important stuff.
So okay, the dense, the scratches, the, you know, the weight reduction, the rust is all
just superficial.
Just keep it going.
It's paid for, run it till it can't.
So the next item on my list of motormouth tech tips, last but not least, breaks.
We got to know that all four wheels are working together, right?
Imagine 20 synchronized swimmers and seven of them are not.
Do you understand what I'm saying?
Are not.
Do you think the other synchronized swimmers are going to give the not synchronized swimmers
the stink eye?
Yeah, for sure.
It's going to be like out of the pool, you jokers.
You want all the brakes working together.
We call that equal braking for safety.
Not just a peek-a-boo through the wheels and going, yeah, the pads look good.
Watch some of the YouTube videos that we put up this past summer.
My goodness.
We had vehicles in and the whole idea of our YouTube channel is to serve widows, orphans,
seniors, singles, men and ladies, all ages, single moms that are out there busting butt,
trying to raise their kids, put food on the table.
God bless you for that.
And we're here to help you.
So once our YouTube channel is fully monetized, then we're going to be able to get parts and
stuff and be able to fix stuff for free.
As long as we can shoot the videos, we'll do our part using our time and talents and shop here
to help those folks.
So we need to make sure that the brakes are working all the way around.
But we put it was like the break nationals this past summer.
Trucks, vans, all age groups, brakes completely shot.
In fact, the last one I did, there was a pre-evaluation before I evaluated the vehicles
hauled in from the Hamilton area, all the way down here south shores of Fort Erie, Lake Erie.
And my list did not match their list.
It was stuff on their list that I didn't see anything wrong with it.
I couldn't say it needed to be fixed.
And an example, just one example is they had air conditioning, need to be serviced and repaired.
I put my test system on there, my manifold gauges and thermal heat gun, and I'm going,
wow, it's like putting out 38 degrees Fahrenheit out the dash.
Problem?
I don't see a problem.
I could probably hang beef in here.
You got to watch that video.
But here's what I'm talking about.
Brakes, yeah, the outside brake pad looked good until you pulled the wheels off.
There was nothing left on the inside.
So that's why we got to pull the wheels off, take the brakes apart, and really have a good look at them.
And everything that should be clean, lubricated, and able to move freely needs to be in that condition.
Nothing less on all four wheels.
Because when we have unequal braking, it doesn't matter whether your four-wheel drive,
