The transmission is what helps your car change gears and move. It's like the part that makes sure the engine's power gets to the wheels so the car can drive.
NHRA stands for National Hot Rod Association, which is a group that organizes drag racing events. They set the rules and help manage the races where cars compete to see who is the fastest.
The Chevrolet Nova is a small car that was made a long time ago. It's known for being affordable and easy to work on, which makes it a favorite for people who like to customize cars.
The quarter mile is a distance of 1,320 feet, often used in racing to see how fast cars can go. It's a way to measure how quickly a car can accelerate from a stop to that distance.
Super Street is a type of drag racing where cars are modified to go fast but can still be driven on regular streets. It's a popular category for racers who want to compete but also use their cars daily.
A turbo is a part that helps an engine get more air, which makes it more powerful. It allows the engine to run faster and produce more speed without needing a bigger engine.
A tunnel ram is a special part of the engine that helps it breathe better, which can make it more powerful. It's often used in racing cars to boost performance.
The rack and pinion is a part of the car's steering system that helps turn the wheels when you turn the steering wheel. It makes steering easier and more responsive.
A trans brake is a special feature in some racing cars that keeps the car from moving while the driver revs the engine. It helps the car start faster when the race begins.
A small block is a type of engine made by Chevrolet that is smaller and lighter than other engines. It's often used in many cars and is popular for its good performance.
A rear end blowout is when a tire on the back of a car bursts. This can make it hard to steer and control the car, especially if the tires aren't the right kind for the vehicle's weight.
Weight distribution is how the weight of a car is balanced across its wheels. If it's not balanced correctly, it can cause problems like tire blowouts or difficulty steering.
A tire pressure gauge tells you how much air is in your car's tires. It's important to keep tires properly inflated for safe driving and better gas mileage.
Four-wheel brakes mean that the car has brakes on all four wheels, which helps it stop better. It's important for safety, especially when driving fast.
An eighth mile drag strip is a short racetrack where cars race each other over a distance of one-eighth of a mile. It's a fun way to see how fast cars can go in a short distance.
A time slip is a piece of paper racers get after they finish a race. It tells them how fast they went and how long it took, helping them see how well they did.
A carburetor is a part of a car engine that helps mix air and fuel so the engine can run. It's important for making sure the engine works well.
LIVE
Hey how's Troy doing you survived Super Bowl Monday I did man 530 sharp to look at us go
yeah man no hangover no nothing today sat back in the cook dinner watch to watch the
game and with the fam and another terrible Super Bowl game as usual my dad I was I was
thinking I was telling my wife my dad used to love a good 6-3 game you know three and
out all game along a good defensive battle he'd say I never was a fan of those and still
not so you know nine to nothing for three and a half quarters was a little tough to
tough to get through but you know it was cool there playing in my Niners Stadium so that was
alright I was gonna ask if if you were a Seahawks fan or a Niners fan but that that sums it up I
know that Henry's a big Seahawks fan I'm not a Seahawks hater you know for me growing up in Idaho
it was like people were either a fan of the Seahawks or the Denver Broncos and I guess I kind
of understood Seattle as it being a little closer to us I never understood why they all
gravitated towards the Denver Broncos maybe because of Boise State but I've been a Niners fan
forever I've still got family and Rockwin and Citrus Heights and we used to go watch spring
training down there in the summer and and so just yeah just always been a lifelong Niners fan so
what's up Walt Walt's out there he's tuning in that's right he's been a faithful he's been a
faithful listener man the whole time and Walt's a busy guy he pops in all over on all the different
podcasts appreciate Walt supporting us on this I was uh talking to Walt uh and he's gonna join us one
of these nights when he's not so super busy I know that Mondays are really busy for him so one of the
days when when he can get off he's gonna join us that'll be great but uh as for news I I don't
have very much news the the season kicks off here not this weekend but next for division seven in
Phoenix um we'll start it out with the national open and then cruise into a divisional so two races
one weekend but uh only one claim on the divisional side and it's crazy how the off season slips away
you know as you know I just I just took my transmission in for a freshen up last week
I got it back within like two days so that was nice but still haven't even dropped off my short
block yet to get that thing tuned up and you know thankfully I'm not I'm not chasing NHRA
points or anything so my off season can extend as long as I need it to but uh I'm starting to feel
the pressure man and and starting to get a little antsy so it's time to get to work I feel like the
division seven off season is like May to to September that's that's a longer off season than
December to February so yeah uh we we tend to do most of our maintenance in the summertime but
I still got my last dial in on the window I didn't wipe that off yet
my my last dial in was an L for against Cal method and he liked to rub that in a couple weeks ago
but mine was two and I dialed six six six and when I put it on there I was like man I don't know
if that's a good dial in but it proved not to be so maybe no more six six six is on the on the window
but uh in a couple weeks I'll get to see a couple fine fellas in person but tonight we'll just have
to do it on the internet so what do you say we bring on our guests p and and gary and we'll we'll
see how they're doing man I'm stoked for this because you know we've talked about telling the
stories of other people and and making sure other people get to learn about uh different races for
the west coast this is a chance for me to learn a lot right I know these guys by name uh but don't
know much else uh about the history and and where they came from and and all that so as much as
I'm looking forward to facilitating this story for anybody else who's watching uh just as stoked to to
learn um you know and listen along with everybody else here tonight so pete and gary welcome thanks
for joining us tonight welcome well thank you yep thanks for having us I uh I've been chopping
it a bit to get you guys on for two or three weeks I I was thinking about who could tell some
awesome stories and especially us being a mostly west coast focused podcast I mean no better people
to tell some of the west coast history um than you guys uh we're super excited uh first off I
want to get get started with how long have you guys been friends like you guys I as long as I've known
you there's there's not a pete without a gary there's not a gary without a pete y'all are always
together yeah they call it frickin frack and all kinds of stuff but I guess from late 79 so 47 years
yeah and I've been married 50 so when I brought him home my wife's gonna be hanging around with
that guy yeah I scared them I think yeah here you are all these years later still doing it
that's uh oh I'm a teddy bear it's pretty awesome to be able to maintain a friendship uh
you know that long so congrats well I didn't like him all the way through so it's yeah we just
started because we get older and we're forgetting more stuff now now it kind of fits in so yeah
I want to know what the win-loss record for you two is who's got more wins versus one another
what do you mean with each other racing each other yeah uh peach got me probably yeah
I mean we have to go all the way back to the earlier yeah you're talking horse and carriage I mean
not I say it's pretty even but believe it or not we've tried our best to stay away from each other
so if it's not ladder we usually do pretty well on not having to run each other yeah by the time
yeah it is pretty close but in the last couple of years the win ratio is uh he's got me I think
like three to one four to one okay Gary come on we need some vengeance man it's time to turn
the cards on that well this year is gonna be it just gonna be the year right now yeah I like it
actually the last time we raced I think he was 008 red and I was 004 red so that was during
elimination so yeah I think you both just go in for each other's throat so whenever he's having
bad lights then when you try to pair up because he kills me all the time kills me all the time
well uh let's get into some of the history you guys are kind of pioneers of progret gas slash
super gas can you tell us a little bit about the early days of that category and how you kind of
came through it through the years well for my side progess had already been running
what about 10 years before we started the year only like four or five you started in 82 or three
I was 84 or five okay yeah so you know back then of course it was at the Orange County and those
early days you know there was no throttle stopped everyone either had a bolt on another gas pedal
or you just kind of won it at the other end very fortunate back then that you you didn't see reaction
times up until later in the years and that particular category you guys no matter where it
was back then it was always 50 to 70 cars right great racing a lot of it at OCR and then later on
in the late 80s I had gotten involved with that organization and kind of was the director of
setting races and that's when we started going to Vegas Speed World Bakersfield Palmdale
because Orange County had closed and so in those early years it was really really great
and then we'd have super street on one day and super gas or pro gas the next day so everybody
would swap and we would have almost as many in super street as we had in gas or pro gas yeah
there was 80 to 100 cars like in each day this was before top sportsman a lot of the guys went
top sportsman from there so the classes went down from there we're only like 24 to 30 cars now
in each even street this year we're gonna try and run both even on the same day we're gonna try and
run both and they're only like a class apart when they call so this ought to be fun yeah maybe hot
lapping you know I I got pretty interested in the pro gas last year I was prepping to to call my
first national event up in Seattle and doing the sportsman classes and and so got to looking into
just some of the different histories and and that led me to pro gas and how pro gas you know became
super gas eventually um you guys been doing this a long time not just together but but racing that
class um and watched it change over the years what what's it feel like now to race super gas versus
you know where it came from and where it started you talk about a bolt under the pedals about all
you had and now obviously a whole different ballgame I don't know you're probably talking to the
two worst guys for that I think the most of our equipment it's still the same for me it's still
got a bolt under the pedal yeah well yeah for peach car I mean I've only had the roadster well
gosh I've had it for 15 years 15 years now but uh peach car your car's like four four 30 something
there yeah 84 or so before yeah 42 years old but yeah see like back then like Gary had a Camaro
that ran bracket super pro we took his 427 and stuck it in my 62 nova and we ran like 989 it
was a 980 index back then and um no trans break and we went to orange county on a Wednesday night
and he was going to drive so he was like 10 flat 10 flat 10 flat 10 on one I told him give me give
me the keys to this piece so I went out there I went 996 so I'm the first one in the nines
because it wasn't my motor I just beat the death but I went I went 996 and 133 and then from there
we just I think we put a ton of ram on it and just that's how that was our first foray into uh
pro gas and then he got this Vega before I built my Porsche so yeah started we were no
trans break guys old equipment I mean old equipment our stuff isn't that new now actually but um
it has changed obviously technology you know it's gotten pretty crazy I mean you got to be
pretty nasty now yeah and what when you asked you know what is it from then to now and Parker and I
were talking the other day on the phone you know what I used to get away with with two or three
hundreds of the stripe I mean that just doesn't exist anymore right you better be five to eight
and have an old light and for me I'm still okay on the tree depending what weekend I show up
but top end for me has been a little tough but you know that as Pete said technology and you know
tires the track engines I mean back when he talked about us putting my old engine in his car
uh you guys may have never experienced this you know we'd have to cod your parts together
we'd have to find old bearings find rings yeah might have two or three different kinds of
rocker arms on there and you know today you can buy anything right and the reliability and
consistency is superb and now it's all it's about the driver yeah let's dive into to some of these
cars you've driven Gary I'll pull them up here we got the vega tell some of the tell us excuse me
tell us some of the fun stories about the vega and then your current hot rod the the roadster okay
well um the vega was really great I had bought that just kind of as a partial chassis and then
put it together in my one-car garage when I used to live in an apartment I used to call that the
moneymaker I did you know not toot my own horn but I did very well in that car
and you know started right out at pro gas and super street I ran both classes and when Pete
talked about doing that this year I mean back in the day when that was built I ran brackets
super street and gas all in the same day yeah right I mean that thing was hot laugh like you
wouldn't believe and so you know I had that car for almost 30 years or so I guess and it did me
really well and I got to tell you with all the truth in the world it had at least 10 to 11,000
passengers down the quarter mile yep and it was just pretty much plain wore out and needed a new
chassis it's a great super street car the guy that bought it has already won two super street
championships and super street with it he's won a couple of division races with it but I mean I'm
not sure what you're asking on that parker I mean I there's a lot of things that I went through
transition with that you know I had a turbo in it and everyone had glides I had four leavens in it
when everyone said that would never work you know I experiment a lot with converters at the time when
Chris from continental was alive he was a very very good friend of mine and you know he just
built me everything that I wanted to try or what he thought was good to do so a lot of
experimental stuff there and then when firestone was around they took care of me and a lot of
experimental things with firestone and one thing about that if anything broke on the car he did
not fix it he just put other stuff in it so it was more like an aeroplane it was very redundant
it was just switches everywhere if you ran a fuel pump it burned out you just got you found the
right switch you had a whole nother fuel system everything everything was redone you never fixed
anything I even had two coils on it yep and then when I put the tunnel ram on it you know that was
kind of a band aid for anything that might have been wrong in the engine a leak here there or a
little lacking power tunnel ram took care of that well here's the best part of the tunnel ram
no override it was a red wire onto the thing and you pulled it inside the car yeah because you had
a pedal that's underneath your foot you could override with the with the red wire yeah because
the foot pedal was on a cable yeah so I'd have a bolt under that yeah and then I would have the
rest of the linkage to pull with the red wire so uh we were high tech before there was high tech
yet a lot of people caught on to that for a while and and I don't know if you guys know Pat Jones
but he uh I had beat him a couple of times and the one the time to beat him I had to pull that red
wire yeah I got a little squirreler so I needed some power I didn't yanked on that baby and he
came over and said you pulled the red wire didn't you I said yep oh man I love it and you know that
car just looking at that car it speaks to my heart man and um that's what cars look like when I grew
up you know and and uh all the contingency stickers big old hood scoop name on the side and yeah it's
it's why my car looks the way the way it does man because it's to me that's what it's supposed to
look like and uh I love man I love that thing and and the extra you know ingenuity or redundancy or
however you want to put it man just makes it uh makes it that much cooler now I want to now I
want to tunnel ram override wire on my car yeah it works so the other thing is now we've sold
he sold it to Fred Murphy now we're trying to buy it back give the roaster and some money to get it
back but he won't let it go so what you're telling me is every switch you added you so you started
in pro gas but every switch you added got you to super street weight so that's why you started
running oh exactly you got it yeah we didn't know why you weighed 4600 pounds but yeah we're good
it would start to six off it didn't weigh so much exactly yeah all right Pete your turn it's
it's all about the Porsche now let's hear some stories about the Porsche tell us when you got it
how many runs are on it um as of 2008 I have 10 000 runs on it uh Ted Cyple asked me he tells
me he said bub how many runs are on that so I went through him I had a shoe box I went through him
I have 10 000 runs on it so I was shocked um bought it in 83 from a family who the son ran into a van
with the headlights up so they broke the headlights and he was getting way too many tickets here is
that USC so I bought the thing for like six thousand dollars and went home fixed the headlights
and I sold everything in it the seats had a block punk stereo everything and took me like a year to
build it and brought it out took a small block from my 62 novans stuck it in there 383 and ran it
like that ran like 970s I think 980s so I barely ran it and until just like 2005 I started to go
with 427 small blocks and I don't know what the car run now I'm guessing 880 or something like that but
um built the whole thing in my garage in fact when I cut the front end off it it made a big
little noise in my neighborhood and everyone came running and they were like what the heck are you
doing I saw it's a tune up this how you got a tune up a Porsche everything was laying on the
garage floor so but my neighbors don't think I'm all there anyway but um yeah that's about it
in small block forever yeah that thing he's not telling you some of the store well Troy I'm
sorry I cut you off no go ahead he's not telling you some of the stories though you know as we both
built our cars in the garage you can imagine that there was some things that were probably
weren't too pristine right and we're at Baylands and he's running pro gas there or get there pro gas
and in the semis he says man the steering wheel sure is shaking it is bad so we went to look at it
both brackets that hold the rack and pinion on were broken off of the frame and the only thing that
was keeping the rack and pinion from going back and forth is there was some u brackets next to it
but that the rack and pinion is going back and forth it would shake the steering wheel out of
your hands so and kept going around so we you know we were younger back then so I said hey let's
just go get a couple tie wraps so we got I mean trailer tie downs try trailer tie down and we just
tied down the whole rack and pinion yeah and he went to the final yeah lost to jay macrus I don't
know if there's a name from the past wow uh kevin smith says he remembered you guys doing dry hops
in the driveway oh yeah yeah dry hops for my most favorite thing ever I did them with the vega until
the day I sold it and I've even done it a couple of times with the roaster I love dry ops I want
to see it in bakersfield or not bakersfield but uh phoenix phoenix I'll do one for you phoenix I'll
do yeah I did a dry hop on the trans brake once yeah but broke everything yeah when it came down
because the car kept going left and right and didn't know what was going on bought new tires and
they didn't have a chance to set them so I did a big old burnout came back from on the brake and let
the rip stood up came down time to go yeah we were we were talking a little bit in the pre-show
you know gary you teaching uh pete everything you know but it sounds like uh pete you might also be
responsible uh for Chad Langton uh sounds like you let him hop in the seat back in the day
yep Chad drove my car there's a lot of people driven my car um uh yeah yeah a lot of people yeah
and then uh also back in the day when I was okay yeah I drove pete's car a lot and we they used to
have a was it 10950 bracket 1050 bracket 1050 some kind of 1050 in that we ran everything and uh
so we ran that along with brackets and I don't I can't tell you how many of those I want in his car
I think he's won more in my car than me and so that was fun yeah so we liked that
and I'm sure you've heard the story that the first trip we went on I put the Porsche in the
van we're going to Sonoma I think yeah and it was so noisy in the van we had just built it
or I just built it anyway going down the road I stuck in the back of the van I hit everything
I fired the car up in the van going down the freeway and I was looking out the front window
I mean his head went all the way to the roof of the van I had to scare it to bring
I got him crap my pants it sounded like a bomb went off I didn't even know he just said hey I'm
going to make sure everything's tight yeah I didn't even give it a second thought he's going to try
to start it he started it I swear to god I got a bomb went off yeah well and that's set up right
people going down the road people yeah it looks just like that still yeah they see the trailer and
they think race cars in the trailer and they're right but what they don't realize is another one
in the back of that van yeah but at the time was an open trailer with the Vega the Vega always had
an open trailer we always thought at some point I was going to hit a bump he was going to have
an enclosed trailer and I was going to have a ramp truck so tell us a little bit about this van
oh yeah you load the Porsche up in in the van and it's like what 45 degree angle
would you car yeah oh loading it probably yeah going up the ramps it's pretty bad in the in the
van it's flat okay it's like yeah it's level in the van in fact we store my scooter above the car
okay it's over the hood yeah I've made a rack and it goes over the hood um yeah it's um I think
going down the road like that we're 19-2 I think and we pull it with a small block I have a small
block in there yeah how many how many miles are on the van oh my god six six 25 it used to be a uh
for a friend of mine had a bed business so it was a delivery van so you know they beat the
snot out of it in fact the first trip it had a 350 with a two barrel on it it went up the
grade buying I am not lying 10 miles an hour in low towing his his Vega I almost got out ran around it
going up the hill yeah and and at that time coming home oh it started to even get slower than
10 miles an hour and then it started vapor locking yeah and it's all we could do to get to the side
of the road and you know what it's like on the grade buying I mean there's trucks and everything
come come to find out the fuel pump was crapping out so we had a old holly blue for the race car
so we just stuck that in between the line but we had no regulator so it kept over flooding
so we would just drive and we had it hooked up to the inside I had a light switch a light switch
for the back lights yeah so we would drive it all the pull the switch and push it off the pull
the switch I thought man it's nitrous yeah and run like way all the way home yeah but we made it so
that worked we never even got off the freeway we had to do that in the slow lane
because we didn't make it it was horrible we were half in half out yeah stare to death yeah
but like that's what's so cool though is like you guys are gonna make it to the race no matter
what come hell or high water we're gonna make it to this race and doing it the way you guys are
still doing it uh I love it man and that I mean that's the way that's the way it should be done
and and so many folks um I mean I'd love to have me a nice toter don't get me wrong and
me too but and all that good stuff but but still doing it the old school way and making it work
I love it guys well let me give you one more to story about the man I want to bore you to death but
no we love it he put new hedge on the rebuild hedge on the engine because I forget why we had to
do that anyway put a set on there we go to Vegas and burns above so it was a double race it was
a week before and we got meant divisional and national week in between right so we're coming back
home you grab a set of heads we drive back up there Tuesday you know do all the racing stuff puts
the hedge on in the pits in the pits he starts it up and he doesn't even go but 10 feet and it's just
looks like Stanley steamer yeah it is just pouring out of the pipe steam so of course we both say
what the f um so we wait and wait and seems to kind of clear up a little bit and at that time I had a
work car and I was following him so I said well let's just go and we'll watch it so he goes and
it starts to slow down then it came back then it slowed down so I forgot how many miles we went
and we got to a truck stop and I said hey let's just go look for some k and w
block sealer if they have it I said there's got to be a seat leaking or something in the head
or gasket whatever so we bought some block sealer threw it in there started up went about maybe
three miles cleared right up that baby drove all the way home a few more years yep
and what we found out is the balancer the outer ring move and it had 60 degrees of timing
so it kept burning burning the heads up we couldn't figure it out until I figured
hey the balancer's not even close so we came home just a couple years ago we broke a crankshaft
in it didn't even know it yeah drove it home drove it all the way home to Vegas with a broken
crank between number one main and the balancer yeah it had a lower vibration we thought okay it's good
let's put it in a second and go up the hill yeah I think I said parker I think I set you a picture
of it I don't want to forget a poster but uh you talk about two lucky guys who because in Vegas
we heard it it sounds like an exhaust leak but yeah exactly like an exhaust leak no
pingy no nothing right but uh we were just damn lucky the way it broke was on an angle
and it just it locked itself up it kept it together but when he called me that following
Sarri said hey you need to get over here I need your help so I did and we went over there and
he said I'm going to go turn the flywheel I want you to look at the balancer he says I'm turning
I said well the balancer's not rotating uh so yeah it caught pretty good when you did it by hand
I love when you got stories that that could be about the race car but they're about the tow rig
oh yeah but you know it has not let us down to or you it gets you to where you were at
gets you time to fix it to come on you just gotta believe baby yeah and then and then
just leave me with a couple of learning about the tires and what it needed oh yeah we had several
rear end blowouts of the tires just not having the right tires and you I thought that the car
starting inside was loud wait till you throw one of them treads off and it hits the fender well oh yeah
well I missed I miscalculated on the weight I thought there was only like 8,000 pounds over
the back axle so I had tires that went to 9,000 I think wait and I went to some cow
cow dunk usa or something and put it on a scale it was like 12-3 or something so I had to step
I went to uh what the hell I got on there like 16 ply tires now come hose or yeah some bigo things
man if they ever go you may not even find us because they're like 125 pound each yeah you're
being big travel so uh I understand that you brought a few props not props brother
that you guys use um let's try it Troy is gonna love this all right so in their all day do you
remember the spinner temperature gauge you'd spin it and then you put the numbers in and
they would tell you what the humidity and oh yeah yeah it was yeah so this is the one we got yeah
it's either cold so-so or it's hot yeah it has a mercury in the middle which looks like it separated
so right so you just spin it wherever the mercury ended up that's what you dialed it's great yeah
but the best part this is a dual gauge yeah tire pressure gauge do you turn it over here
it says low so so too high well you put it on the ground and you measure the rim to the ground to
the mark if you're down at the bottom you don't have enough air you're here yeah probably good
enough but if you're at the top too much there I know you guys are using actually using that thing
oh absolutely and then we stepped up yep and we're looking for backers by the way yeah this is our
tracking device screen you want me closer no we're gonna we're gonna zoom in there you go
hey how do you like that okay so right here yeah you set that on the track you got a spring right
here and it's numbered as you stick it down on the track you turn it it tells you how much grip
yeah I got one through four yep and then one's good right if it's one then it's good right because
it ain't moving yeah that's correct yeah actually we have a little gauge here for you that um number
one is uh tracks poopy tracks and stinks if it goes to two the tracks like kaka you may want to hold
five or so it goes to three the tracks like doo doo you may want to hold a tenth if it goes to four
tracks crappy dial whatever you want you ain't coming close you ain't gonna get there you know
and we stepped her up we have a wind gauge on it because when this is blowing it's windy
and then it's connected to bluetooth yeah we have a bluetooth right here
oh man and then you know you're if you got right lane left lane depends and then if you're below
the equator you just flip around you're you're ready to go parker I'm moving to d7 man I gotta
hang out with these guys every week oh yeah if you ain't learned nothing by now we can't help you
this is my kind of show boys yeah right now it's holding on my carpet yeah the carpet's like a two
see we showed this to Luke back in the day when he had a podcast and he said that he was too scared
I can't put that on there he said you guys are too much so we're giving you kudos for even trying
but you know Joe did it on uh when Joe Costello did the uh in the pits uh actually he called this
painter that painter uses this in the toilet yeah they said it was like a uh what was the thing called
the pro thing he said it was like um old schoolers I said no it's pretty much preschool you know
is before that hey there's some technology here I want to show you the bottom look I got cuts
because I stuck on the floor in the garage I turned it I couldn't get it off the floor
I want to take that out like like first session top alcohol I'm gonna get out in front of
Ray Miner or somebody and make sure I give him a good read yeah we brought this to top sportsman
we were at the Newman's yeah and this is God's Honest Truth so I bring it up to the starting line
and they're getting ready to run alcohol it's funny you mentioned that yeah so I'm up there as
serious as possible and I put it down and I'm hurting it you should have seen everybody they're
like oh new trick and this guy from alcohol comes over he has a regular tester and he's looking at
that thing he said what is that I said oh you know check the traction he starts looking closer and then
he starts busting I mean he just starts laughing and then he says well you probably get a lot closer
my can with this high-tech thing I got yeah that's like you couldn't believe the seriousness
of the people coming over like they that's like the new that's a new trick or something no not
really yeah and then Mazeere just had to have one so feed that or make them I made them one
they use it in their safety meeting so I don't know how good that is for Mazeere products
I don't know I'm about to order a new water pump from those guys so hopefully it works here
oh yeah they use this all the time for the machine
that's well I got a couple uh just a just random non racing related questions but
is it true that uh you are a professional baseball player Pete yeah I never made it to the pros but
I played uh I got as high as AAA AAA Minnesota Twins Minnesota Twins wow you're a pretty good
ball player then and yeah I guess um I think I was too young and I mean I always blame it on not
you know my dad and mom split when I was young so I kind of got homesick type thing and just came home
and ding dong here gets me in the car so that's where I went the hell in a hand basket yeah but
Parker let me tell you I went through a few of his games he used to go out of town all the time
and they played out of town games but when he played here uh him and his buddy Donnie
man this dude could hit catch run you name it looking at me you would never know just like at
the end of this you're gonna think how did them to get a car down a track yeah I was gonna say you
so obviously you know you guys strike me as just a couple of guys who who love hot rotten
and uh and you go to races and you figure might as well try to win and be competitive but you
also strike me as uh two guys that if all it was ever was testing to and you'd still be out there
every weekend oh yeah we we say it all the time we'd rather just go down the track it's when you
got it first round you got to prove something that's when it gets hard you know I like doing
peelouts and wheelies you know I'm good yeah this five and eight thousand shit yeah yeah you guys
just kind of stop I'm telling you I barely use that pedal to get off the track you know most of
the time I gotta accelerate to get off you know now you want me to use it in elimination so yeah
and look around that's not safe safe well uh we know that your your Porsche only has rear brakes so
yep yep and it uh but it stops are okay yeah you just got to know that she'll lock up she'll slide
I had her on two wheels at uh Vegas one year racing um actually lives up there by you uh Brazil
John Brazil I was in I don't even know what happened but I was hitting the brake but I didn't hit him
any harder than normal but it just got up on two wheels and I mean I looked out my window and I
seen both the lines I'm just like oh my god I crashed this and it came back down to four wheels
I went to the end and I went to the top end I just sat there and I'm like man I almost crashed you
know and I'm like you know what here I am the car's idling it don't ever idle so you get it on two
wheels the floats everything your school yeah so we're calling them drawer chipwood that weekend
but leaving that night out the back gate at Vegas the safety safari guy comes over and he yells out
hey wait and I said yeah he threw me a roll of toilet paper I said here that was for that pass
I got four brakes on my car and it don't stop worth nothing so maybe I maybe I switched it to
well hey I'm sure neither of you've ever been to Barona in San Diego
no I heard about it though it's a little eighth mile to court I barely could stop with four wheel
brakes he went almost every yeah at the end it's nothing but a giant mountain there's no sand to
go into or net or anything and he would barely make that every pass I turned out the track probably about
80 70 yeah well yeah you talked about people driving and we just had Keith Mayer's drive it
he said man he goes your car is awesome for 60 feet
he said it's about the most boringest thing ever I was you know I do in my pre-show research
my due diligence um I obviously I watched the episode of attention in the pits and I thought
it was funny how in that moment you know he was asking you about Keith the other guy with the portion
you're like yep I have no clue who that guy is a year later he's driving your car and that's something
yep it's very weird yeah and let me tell you I you know everybody can have their opinions but
him and Darren really really great they fit right in with us yeah they fit right in with us
and we often still talk to Keith and and Darren uh they really had a blast with them when they came
down here that's awesome man it's cool how racing can bring people together that that otherwise
never would have known each other you know yeah look at that there you go oh hey you see
old Greg Martin there yeah there we call him the tree trunk yep that's the trunk yeah he came to
oh man we call him tree trunk so at my house he's sweating in my driveway it's nice only like
50 degrees and say great what's the matter with you he said two houses down they got a tree
the tree shredder scaring the hell out of me right now yeah I run him through the chipper yeah he was
well boys I uh I gotta know you've uh you've accomplished a lot you've done a lot of racing
what do you guys look forward to or what's the goal of y'all's moving forward uh is it just
showing up and having fun or or what tell us what you guys got in mind well for me um I won't get
too much into it I got I got some issues uh take that for what it's worth but uh it stems from my
cue but go ahead okay I'm gonna run this year for sure and I'm really going to put the best effort
partial enjoy in this I can this year you know I know I can do it I just gotta focus myself to do it
but you know I've had some things in my life in the last few years that made me focus on life a
little differently it's not that serious life is not as serious as you try to make it right so I've
let go of some of those things and yes why racing is very serious to me it wasn't as serious as it
used to be so it was just more about just going to have fun you know hey if Pete does well great
I'm gonna cheer him on I'm gonna help him do everything I can to get him to win fun has never
been an issue yeah um so just to sum up again for your partner I'm I'm gonna really try this
year and you know Pete did some work on my car last year like I told you earlier it's funny how
things changed when your parents used to take care of you and I take care of your parents
so that's when I used to be really good now I'm just so so and now Pete has come to help me
and he made some changes on my car I did some things with the throttle stop and the last year
really started to show some great improvement but I was the one screwed everything up the car was
really really good so that's what I'm gonna focus on this year partner have fun too yeah but and me
I swear to you every time I'm in the lane I just hope it starts
I just hope it starts I've got the I've got the non-starting this car at the track every
minute and you know Pete is very shy in this part of sense of being telling the truth I know he
wants to do well he's not gonna tell you that and you you guys both know he is an excellent racer
he won't ever admit that and he can win the race just like he did in Phoenix a couple years ago
and we get done we say okay well there's second races tomorrow whatever it was so
we get whatever we're gonna do we go across the street to the casino in Phoenix and I told him
hey Pete great job you know great job for winning he said well what time is it so it's about 12 30
he saw I was fucking yesterday you guys are the best man I could I could see why you're still
hanging out with each other after all these years yeah but he's got a like a real serious
professional job and he's totally different at work or I hope he is me I'm just I'm just a goofball
from jump street I yeah but a very smart new fall again something he wanted me no man yeah
all about balance balancing each other out man what a team I'm gonna bounce back to this picture
here it says helmet city on the side of it so if you don't if those of you listening that don't
know helmet city was Kyle Cyples business that he ran for a while on it and he backed Pete for a
a little while yeah Kyle Cyples stories Pete
there's nothing Kyle Cyples story I've ever heard about the time slip that's not too dirty
well it kind of is well anyway we went to a west coast pro-cast race which is Baylands
we knew Teddy and Georgia real well because they used to come to Orange County in race with Dan
DeVita and I think that's why they kind of liked us because they buddy toad and we started the buddy
time anyway we went out there for for a race and I made a time run and on the slip you could write
on them back in those days from the tower actually I didn't know where it was from but you could
write on it and it said I think you're sexy I'm like what the heck is that all about so I made
another pass you're hot I'm like man the time slip it was like showing me these slips yeah I'm
like what the heck is that who's giving you these slips I don't know I'm getting them from a time
booth and it's written on them and she's like 12 I said it ain't her and there was other stuff written
in there like I said that you can't you know if you know Kyle yeah that's that's but I didn't know
it was Kyle I hadn't met him yet this is my first introduction to Kyle because anyway every
pat this is the pat this is when we went to the final and I tied my uh rack and pinion down with
the trailer strap and all the time was like I want to meet you by the time uh the concession stand
I'll meet you but there you're you know you're hot um every I'm just like man who is this so
anyway I make to the final we make it to the final we run her up
crickets ain't no I'm mad now there's nothing on my time slip I'm like oh man so we're getting
ready to leave we go say bye to Teddy and Georgia didn't Georgia and this little kid comes over and
goes hey man you're gonna get my notes I go if you sit kid man I told Teddy I he goes hey it's
Georgia's fault yeah so we asked Georgia you go no it's Teddy's fault but oh my gosh some of the
stuff on there I said where did you learn this stuff where did you come up with this stuff I
kid it was 13 when I met him I'm just like oh man oh man your vocabulary is out there I said
you're my kind of kid but you know not like that yeah anyway that was my introduction to Kyle but
others yeah Kyle yeah I can't even we got so many yeah and you know as of course as time went by and
he grew up and he was driving and started winning anything in sight uh I mean there's stories I'm
sure you guys have heard off of your podcast we'll tell you that they're true and pretty pretty
sick but that was Kyle yeah we loved him yeah he was like our son yeah I love it tracks for him
you know to the Kyle Cyple was always Kyle Cyple from the time he was 13 and all the way to the
to the very end man yep you're not kidding I never got the pleasure to meet that guy but um
but awesome awesome yeah certainly someone we all know about up here in the northwest a lot of
people I race with got to meet him but um definitely someone and you know as I'm sorry
no I just even as even as not being able to meet him a guy that that it's hard not to
to appreciate you know because you know what he contributed and yeah and as good as he was
he never held anything back if you asked him questions you know what should I do should I try
this I mean he would just do whatever he could to try it out yeah he told me many times I said hey
you know what you know we're going a few rounds what do you think I should do he said park it
you're not doing that well driving really you know he just happened to go a few rounds so
that's Kyle yeah speaking of Kyle uh the spring playing bracket races is coming up
is that something that's on your guys' schedule what's on your guys' schedule that's iffy this year
you know we had gone to it for like four five years in a row um we got to kind of look at what's
going on I got some work stuff and then I may have to have some back surgery so we're going to
we did it like I said four or five years but it was like um it was like Kyle then it was a
divisional then the national and we came home in between every time so we left our stuff there
it just got we love it we love that race yeah I got what about Tucson you guys go to the show
down in Tucson we haven't we have not yet done that we went to his race at Bakersfield Chris's
yeah we usually run them when you have them there and then uh he used to have them at Fontana
so we went to those all the time at Fontana we'll do brackets street gas even if it's all the same
day we we'll run egg me and him ran Superpro at Chris's race same both in Superpro in my car
and we never like I'd go up first by the time I got back we just threw him in it and just changed
the dial you know that was last year and guess what after 27 rounds not one freaking dollar to
show no no money we lost every time for the round buy backs the whole bit 27 runs and not a dollar
to show for oh that's brutal yeah well I I happened to runner up that race but all of the money that
I earned replaced the transmission then I blew up in the final round oh I hurt I hurt so that's
that's no fun but that's one good thing about having the cars we have from like 1955 is when we
make money we're actually making money you know I mean it's like we're not buying the 632s and all
that stuff so it can go back in the car it actually feels good you know even when we get like a $50
semi we don't count the entry fee oh yeah you don't count anything to get there or any of that
yeah no that's I have to that $50 profit yeah oh yeah 100% 100% I remember the first crispy 50 I got
man it cost me 400 but I told everybody I won 50 bucks oh yeah 100% I still got the first check from
Orange County back in the day I wanted to ask you guys you know between the two of you going
all the way back to the pro gas what are the Gary three three championships for you yeah four or five
for you Pete over the years you guys have done so many things together is there is there a certain
accomplishment that you guys share shared with each other that that means the most to you or or
even just a memory from over the years that that stands out as you know the one you'll always remember
well we had a couple of Orange County but I think the biggest thing was I gotta look at
my trophy because I can't remember the year 1930 what that's when Oscar just called us so 1990 I won
the finals in Bakersfield in Super Pro and then in 91 or 92 me for 94 for Pete he won it in Bakersfield
that was kind of one at that time you know that's a big thing
Bakersfield was a big trip for us right and that was a big thing to win back then is to
win the bracket finals especially in Super Pro still so we shared even though I was a few years
apart we shared that together because that was pretty special that we both won that and then
when he surpassed me in pro gas because I was a three-year champion probably for what 10 years
Pete or more yeah oh yeah yeah and then when Pete finally won his fourth you know I was very happy
for him that was kind of a milestone right nobody had ever won four championships so that was a
milestone that stuck with us um and then were you with me at the first Super Chevy race I can't
remember it's back in Orange County I don't remember I remember you winning that I think you
celebrated this man that's when Ray Mastin was going to beat the shit out of me for switching lanes
yeah yeah so um we got to hear the story now yeah what's that we got to hear the story now
well okay so Orange County I had my Camaro I know you didn't show a picture of that but I had a
67 Camaro I started out with for a few years it was a nice car I actually ran pro gas in that one
time it was 3200 pounds and it just went 990 they changed the index to 990 but at that time
the trans brakes had come out a lot of stuff so I wasn't competitive on the tree at that time but
nevertheless so I ran the first ever Super Chevy show at Orange County and I had the Camaro there
so I'm going around and going around we get to the semis and I'm supposed to have the signal
well as it turns out I didn't the other guy did guy named Ray Mastin but we had already flipped
for lanes and so uh the guy I raced I beat him so I come back for the final Ray has the bye he
comes back so we get ready to get in the final I get my car and I go to the left lane right so
he gets in the right lane we race I win we pick up our time sheet or slips because at that time
there's no wind lights he gets out of his car comes up to me and he says I am gonna beat the
living F out of you I said what happened Ray you took my lane you took my lane and this guy was as
serious I mean I was scared to death he's kind of like a biker guy right I was scared to death
that he was really going to beat the crap out of me and this went on for probably five minutes
and he kind of gave me a little shove nothing hard just a little shove and after that five minutes
he said I'm just kidding with you everything's great
but uh yeah that was that was pretty bad I thought he was going to beat the crap out of me
that that was also a milestone and you probably just don't remember because you remember that
yeah it is that was that was the first major big major race I never won and uh I know I'm kind
of going off of your uh scale no Parker but you're fine the one thing I'll never ever forget
is when I raced Orange County and met Paul Weekman you guys know Paul Weekman or heard of
I know Troy you probably kept in front Parker I know you know him well so at Orange County was
always the big five or six it was Pete, Gary Cook, Bearfield, Carl Smith, guys that you may or
may not know but I mean they were just the guys you could never beat in Orange County ever
I beat all of them in one night for my very first Super Bowl race
wow so that was a really great milestone I know one thing we did I had my nova I was going to a
final in Super Street oh yeah I left the ET slip booth everybody's waving and like everything at me
so I'm waving back I get to the station lane my foot's on fire my carburetor had leaked fuel into
the manifold I took off from time slip booth went on the converter big flames out the bottom so
everyone's trying to get me to stop but I was waving so when I got up there it burnt my wires
and everything my car wouldn't run but it was the final it was Jerry McClout McCanton McClanahan
Brian's father they said hey could I just get Gary's car this is way back in the 80s then they
said yeah yeah okay so I had I went back my car's just smoldering down on the road I went
put it out yeah I went back in his car we had turbos back in the day I left I went from first to
third to second to first to third I couldn't handle the shifters so wound up losing but it
did not a drive yeah it wasn't my car give him my car to get him a win that's funny I was all over
the place Pete what about you what what's the big one that stands out for you whether it's an
accomplishment you guys shared or a memory you shared any anything on top of what Gary mentioned
I think I found a particular Ray Mastin's Nova too I sent it to Parker yeah there you go yeah
wow nice you remember he he when we ran he had the uh altered at that time
but yes he had this one too that was after the altered yeah I'm like it's just a pro gas stuff
that we do um I I raised him for my super street champion no fifth fifth pro gas champion
and I needed to get by the semis I had him in the semis and we've always raised heads up so we left
and he had me he was teen I was 20 something I go down there let him rip he's 89 9 I was a hog
and yeah I'm like 92 or something got lucky and wound up winning my fifth championship but
I mean that was a lot for me but he wasn't real happy I was a hog yeah that's those 30
straps you're talking about Gary can't be taken though it was a little more than that but uh
well when he cut me loose rack back brakes only I didn't even know where he went yeah
that's how that's how much he let me go and hit the brakes he was speaking to that but that guy
that did borrow right ran my car at Pomona and he was scared to death of rear brakes he didn't
think he'd stop at Pomona I told him it's short you know but he said oh no your car's not even
fast enough to worry about break even have to run a shoot feet I do run a shoot because it goes over
150 but I've never pulled it I'd be afraid of what come out of that yeah I was just saying man don't
at this point just leave her in there but there might be a dead body yeah it could be
I I'd be surprised if or excuse me I wouldn't be surprised if it was a tank top that's all
yeah I've I've tied it on there tank top so I had a new one in like a final or something yeah
yeah I wouldn't I'd be scared of that there's gotta be an animal or two in there
that or my racing clothes need to be worse because there's something that stinks in that thing
when they said pack the laundry yeah see yeah
laundry on that Gary you need to stuff a bunch of old panties in there or something so if he
ever does pull it oh yeah he wouldn't wear them if they fit matter of fact he keeps talking about
the pens now and it's an old freaking look at me because I'm not changing them they told me I was
used to be an underwear model but um they got old so they said now you can start doing diapers
no all right just put a pad in the bottom of the seat there yeah I told them we go to Pomona
we're gonna sit in the stands and watch and I said hey guess what I'm doing right now
oh man
Dale Dale Schuber says hello boy Pete about the first day on the Porsche at Palmdale
well when he hit the tree or one the other part I'm not sure I actually have three bad days in
at Palmdale one of them when I built the car I actually needed some 90 degree turns off the
radiator which had the old rabbit plastic so I used um landscapers glue for the fitting
and I don't know it didn't work so it was leaking that was one the other time I lost high gear
in oh yeah I forgot about this great it's just I'm going
yeah so I put a neutral coaster got down on the return road it wouldn't go I oh I'm sorry I go low
I always go low to neutral and I coasted the time slip boot it was in low I took off I clicked the
motor as I clicked it the car spun around on the return road it walked up it hit the chain link
fence this is what anybody's talking about and it's dark and late I just went reverse to the
time slip boot reached over the top at the time slip I drove all the way down the thing
the last thing is oh yeah the tree okay so I always piss and moaned he piss and moans
complains about everything in life everything yeah so how could anything happen right and
believe me as I've learned things that don't happen to anybody else happen to Pete but nevertheless
I'm giving them the speech of hey don't worry about it Pete everything is great you know things
can't always go perfect today's gonna be great you know just go out there do your thing everything
will be perfect and he's going yeah yeah yeah shaking his head gets in the car shoot out shoot out
doesn't burn out I'm up there stages let's go the trends break breaks an axle freaking
car goes left just fucking moves the tree down gone complete flatten it flattened it yep I said
what were you saying about that look yep that's when I we went out he said so you're gonna give me
I said I will never say another word like that to you again
yeah that was three things so I don't know which one falls in the shoe there might be one I don't
even know about you make that many passes and some of them aren't good
you guess who had a at that time I was good friends with Bernie Long drown the manager of the owner
I had a wire that whole thing back together and it took me almost two hours yeah we're talking about
tree the tree yeah yeah because when he hit it it took it clean off and just rip the wires up
yeah and now and then when he got it done you stage and when the tree came on the red light
came on and it was still green yeah so there was wired correctly actually actually you could stage
from the water hole so I got to know was it five bulbs at that time or just the three I'm gonna
put a six from my name no three it was three and someone made me a thing of all three of them on
the plat yeah I said to hit the tree the hardest yeah you've got to find that on there you know I'm
still yeah I shouldn't say that anymore I'd say within like five years ago I was still pulling
glass out of that thing from the from the bowl that was that was a long time ago
finding little shards of it every year yeah yeah green red yellow all kinds
you guys are doing it right man don't ever stop doing it how you're doing it this is what it's
all about man all right is there well I I knew we knew we made it when we were at bakersfield
at the divisional and we got sung happy birthday to in September when my birthday's in May
and I was like where did this and I looked down it's the whole fee of all planned down
so yeah that's when you know you made it you know I didn't complain I took the cake I took it
we we got the waitress and all the staff to go over and sing happy birthday to him at the steak
house and he he everybody looked confused and he was swinging his towel
owning it like it was his birthday and free cake jack I'm in quick thinking man
well we've had you guys for just over an hour now but uh is there anything that um
you'd like to to close out with anybody you'd like to thank um just thinking of one thing
me and Pete are are kind of like brothers in the fact that his super gas number 7019 is also my
super comp number so yeah I didn't know that okay yeah so uh nice I feel like we're we're connected
somehow um so yeah yeah you're connected oh yeah be careful you say that out loud
but uh is there anything that anybody well I mean I'm not sure who's listening but I'd
really like to thank Goodyear who's been very kind to me same year Goodyear we got Hughes
Hughes come Kevin it's yeah performance uh iski cams and of course everyone knows that
Ed passed away several days ago but uh I knew him way way back when he actually gave me my very
first camshaft and lifters for my Camaro when I was building in at Orange County and he said
they're on me kid quote unquote yeah we knew him way back when he was in his 60s yeah
so I'd like to like iski Alden Chalk on the market hot rod performance has helped us out a lot
we have a lot of uh mutual people that back us that stuff I have a friend that helps you have
much of a choice it seems kind of like a package deal if you're sponsoring one you got a sponsor
yeah you got to do it got it yep and um I have a good status a neighbor that helps us with fuel
every now and then and he just came over one night I was out like 11 o'clock 12 o'clock
working on the car and I got up to work at like four or five in the morning he's like I told him
it was a hobby and he said anybody that works on a hobby this many hours there's got to be something
I can do to help you with you know not so you're out money and whatever but fuel would help us
everything done that's been like the mid 90s he helps us out every now and then so that's the
dick months on my scoop I'm just gonna go start hitting wrenches against stuff in my garage until
someone comes over our noise ordinance hits at about 10 o'clock and and I typically try to make
sure I do an evening warm-ups at about 10 till so my name normally I'm in bed by then but yeah
but yeah we have that's about it for sponsors I guess we have a lot like I said the good years
kevy hughes alden mark market hot rod performance yeah with them but you know well you and I
without the help of these people it you just can't do this stuff man it's he hit me the other day he
said hey I owe me six hundred dollars what's up for what he said he hit the national open and the
divisional oh my god we're going to both so yeah it you know people help out it it's a big thing
you know the feeable construction on the side of the car we don't get a lot there
but yeah well he drove it back over once and he was going to try to pick my car up he said
he had a scrap guy coming and he needed some metal and I can drive backwards yeah he can
drive backwards so got that going for me all right so I know you're taking it yeah taking
you over your hour but Pete and I would like to leave you with one last thing many people that
might be listening if there is has heard this but we're going to say it again one bright morning
in the middle of the night two dead boys got up to fight back to back they faced each other
pulled out a knife and shot each other if you don't know if you don't believe the story is true
that's a blind man he saw it too yes I forgot about the police man came to kill the two dead
boys I screwed that whole thing up but yeah you can take well we're old you know let's put it this
way it used to be funny yeah so let us just really quick one bright morning in the middle of the night
two dead boys got up to fight back to back they faced each other pulled out a knife and shot each
other a deaf policeman heard the noise and came to kill the two dead boys you don't believe the
story is true that's a blind man he saw it too there it is there you go love it there's that age
creeping up yeah well I'll be 70 this month Parker so you gotta go easy on me okay this can be used
do a tracking brain mechanism yes yeah wow where'd you use that last
holy mode I claim the toilets where I got here gray uh either of you gonna be up in Seattle for
the national why I get to come shake hands with the crew or not I don't think probably not you're
not gonna get very many chances for me to call one of your laps at a national event so that's one of
them okay yeah we don't know how bad one out I've been there once and I had a fun there I had fun
time there um actually I was scared because I slept in my van in the van when I was there
because they have showers at the track yeah worked out fantastic I was scared a big foot
I mean you're pitted in the trees there are some big racers Walker Wayne Newman it looked like
and big foot to me so big foot's real so like you got all those guys and you got the real big foot
man he he lives and we believe up here oh yeah okay then see yep there you go so they call me the
Cobra Cobra whatever the heck the thing is triple Cobra yeah that guy the goat sucker yeah yep
so well hey Parker and Troy really really appreciate you inviting us to thank you podcast
thanks thanks very much hopefully you still have one after this yeah I was gonna say I just
say you're welcome anytime but I don't know if there'll be another yeah they'll never know when
we're listening because actually prior to this call we watched a few of them actually we don't
even know when we're listening so this happens it's been an absolute pleasure guys and this
one's an instant classic this is why we wanted to do this thing the off seasons gave us a great
opportunity to talk to a lot of people and and this one ranks right up at the top really appreciate
the stories the time and everything you guys have put into this sport and thanks for sharing a little
bit of it with us here tonight oh you're welcome thanks again thanks yep thanks for everything
it was fun yeah we'll be watching good luck this year all right thank you thanks all right fellas
I'll see you guys pretty Parker yeah
what do you say about that I love it man I my my cheeks hurt from smiling and my gut hurts
from laughing so that's I mean what more can you ask for out of those boys like I said man an
instant classic and a great example of why we wanted to do this whole thing in the first place
is for moments like that and stories like those so I'm excited to watch those guys this year
you know Gary's focused man Gary's locked in so I'm gonna be watching you know Drag Race Central
all year and and you know watching Gary hopefully keeps those stripes tight and parks it in the
winter circle I'd love to see a 70-19 double up with you and Pete this year as well so we gotta
cross that off the list man uh looking forward to watching those fellas this year yeah and lucky
for me I I get to see firsthand those those boys I'm jealous bro I'm and like just doing it I wish
like any of the kids out there that are thinking about getting into drag racing and stuff like
could could hear from those guys and see how they're still doing it because I think a lot of folks
especially with social media and all the different things you see the big shiny trucks in the big
shiny trailers and you think that that's how you gotta do it and I think we all wish we could do
that someday and and and have those kinds of things but like small block in a U-Haul you know
with a with a Porsche stuffed in the back and another car behind it going 10 mile an hour up the
grade that still gets it done man and hearing stories like that and like the stories we heard
from Cal just love that and love that those guys are still doing it the old school way
yes sir and uh I couldn't agree more with what I can't I can't even add on to what you've said
because there's there's nothing more to say um what about next week tell us about next week
I'm also pretty excited for next week we got a west coast standout Marco Paravilaris joining us
we're gonna talk sprinkling bracket races um the millions coming up here in a couple months
we'll do a preview of that also get to learn a little bit more about Marco and his family
his racing career and and his racing endeavors coming up so you guys one hell of a racer man
but I think he might be I think I've only met him twice uh but I got to talk to him for a
decent amount of time up at Woodburn this past year he might be the nicest guy I've ever met in
my entire life yeah definitely top at least top three nicest people I've ever met so looking forward
to that I uh I put a line out to Dylan Howe uh so we'll uh we'll see about getting Dylan Howe
booked on here um he's getting prepped up for to make a run at top dragster this year he was out
turning wrenches in the shop the other night with his pops on the funny car they're getting the
dragsters ready um believe he's skipping the Tucson race to put full focus on on Phoenix and
top dragster so it'll be interesting for to chat with him and and hear about that so got a couple
folks lined up and gonna be a good couple weeks man oh yeah make sure to like subscribe um on the
YouTube channel the the Facebook page um it really helps us out um and in the end you won't miss shows
like these um so like and share like and share we'll see you guys all next week word see you later
