Welcome to the Avants podcast. I'm Dan. I'm Nick. That's Brian. Hey, it's Brian. Hi. Sammy's there too. Hey. She's hiding off to the side.
Brian Dallas and Sammy Dallas, who've been on the show before, of course. Yeah. But they're hanging out in the studio with us because that's something you can do.
You know what? This is really great because she doesn't say anything and I could say pretty much anything. She won't respond because she's too worried about being on microphones.
That was a response. Just so we're clear. She proved you wrong right there. Damn it. Secondly, she will write this stuff down and you will pay for it later.
Oh, it's true. Can we go right in the car? Why'd you punch me?
Yeah, record. Speaking of that, what she just said, I didn't realize you could record phone calls on the iPhone now.
I absolutely hit that button and my wife was on it. She goes, why are you recording our phone call?
I was like, huh? Feature though. You have to give permission on the other side.
Well, it gives it permission. You don't have to give them permission. It says it over the phone call and it's in the recording that says you are now being recorded.
That's sort of funny to bring that up because I remember when we started recording calls at work and we do it largely for transcription and it takes notes for us and it's fantastic.
I love recording calls. It's a work call. I want everything. I want to remember everything. It's really in co-pilot works fantastic for that.
It's amazing how much easier it makes my life on calls. It's funny how that became so normal now.
There was a huge thing about it when we first started privacy. We can't record calls.
We'll say the wrong thing. Now nobody's like, are we recording it? Make sure we're recording.
We just ran out of policy for that this week about how you have to get everybody's permission that's on the call in order to record in teams.
That's something brand new for us. We've never done that before and now it's getting more and more of a saying.
It's on by default now. We're just like, oh, something you forgot to turn on recording. That's so weird.
When I put my dental stuff, there's some stuff through Salesforce that does it and I've had to talk to this.
They're like, why are you recording this? And I'm like, well, first of all, I want to know what I said.
I want to know what you said. And then when you come back in six months and say I didn't say that, I'm going to be able to go.
Yeah, you did. Yeah, it makes sense for that. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely.
I love a meeting notes. They're a godsend for time. Yeah. Yeah.
So let's talk about our Carter automotive group tip. This one specific I chose because it's a Subaru tip, sort of.
I'd never own one of those.
Multiple. Yeah.
We just got rid of one.
Yeah. This is because, you know, one, two...
So I've owned one, two. Yeah. Well, that's ours.
It's our Raptor and it's her Subaru.
I've owned the 92. I've owned a 2000. I've owned the Crosstrek. I've owned the Outback Wilderness and then I half owned.
So five? Yeah.
What does she have? Forester?
She's got a Forester Sport, which is amazing on gas mileage after you got out of a Raptor, by the way.
Yeah, I heard about your truck. I'm like, wait a minute. That says 32.
Yeah. The highest mileage vehicle in our household is my F-150 Raptor.
I was going to say, yeah.
Which gets 17. Let's set the bar.
How'd you get 17? I think I'm getting 16.
You got a downhill on the way down to town.
Yeah, I was going to say. I am old and extremely light on the throttle around town.
When did that happen? I don't know.
It's happened to me too now all of a sudden.
It's weird. It's all three of us.
Yeah. I fully have the ability to get on the off-ramp and nail it.
And I'm like, nope. Take them a time.
To be fair, I don't think Shauna or I have ever gotten above 10 in the R8.
I'm not even kidding. I think our highest is like 9.7.
Oh, gas mileage.
Oh, gas mileage per gallon. I think we get like 9 miles per gallon.
That's so weird that a V10 would be sucking that much gas.
Yeah. Shocking.
Yeah, and it spends 90% of its life bouncing off the refrigerator.
Yeah.
Okay, so speaking of speed, so the three of us owning Raptors,
we do have R buttons on our steering wheel.
What do we have our R buttons programmed for?
Full Baja mode.
I just switched it to Baja mode in mine for that.
So mine is, actually mine is set for sport.
Sport, suspension, sport, steering, for street.
But my steering wheel is on comfort.
It is.
It's full Baja, but then comfort steering.
Yeah, so mine is the same except I don't go, I still stay in two-wheel.
Yeah.
But I do put it in everything.
Like I open the exhaust up, you know, the big screen comes up there.
Off-road use only.
Yeah.
I'm like, screw you, I'm going to go this way anyway.
I've used it, but truthfully off-road once and it was the day
before everybody got to Moab and we were out.
And I went across that field.
Oh yeah.
That was the first time I had used R mode, which is nice.
Like I said, just hit the button and everything just kind of comes on.
So yeah.
I like that.
You were saying a Carter automotive tip.
Sorry.
Yeah.
I was talking about the BRZ and where that acronym came from,
because it is an acronym.
It actually makes sense.
Oh, burrs.
Burrs.
It's not what I thought.
I never would have been able to figure it out on my own.
I mean, the first one is sort of obvious.
Boxer.
B for Boxer.
R is not for racing.
It stands for rear-wheel drive.
Okay.
Because Subaru, the beauty of all-wheel drive,
this was a big departure for them.
Absolutely.
New Subaru.
Do you know they had rear-wheel drive BRZs?
I think they used them at rally schools.
Is there a rally school nearby here?
Never heard of it.
Oh, wait.
There's something on your T-shirt.
And then Z, which totally, I don't know,
stands for Zenith.
But this has a really cool annotation,
because if you know what a Zenith is,
it is the constellation directly above your head.
No, that's the same as a TV from where you're kidding.
Well, if you think of Subaru, the badge is the constellation.
Yeah.
So there's double meaning.
And the Zenith is like the peak of performance
or power of something, the peak of performance.
So it has double meaning.
So Zenith, yeah, the TV brand,
those of us old enough to remember electronics brands,
but it's actually a constellation directly over head.
What's the Toyota version of the BRZ?
The FRS.
Yeah.
Did we figure out what that was?
I did not.
Oh, okay.
We would probably get the explicit tag on this.
Yeah, I don't think that.
So the 86 moniker, though, I did figure out,
that's just a callback to the AE86,
which is, you know, their...
Which makes sense.
Yeah.
The Corolla AE86.
Yeah.
The AE just stands for the engine,
which is what was...
That was Toyota's engine code AE.
It stands for the Corolla chassis of the time.
It is the 80 series generation of that chassis
and then six stands for the specific model options
within that generation.
So the AE86 was just this very, very logical,
very Japanese at the time moniker for a car.
Yeah.
Yeah, so...
Along those lines of the Japanese moniker,
things like that,
Tom Monato passed away.
Yeah, he passed away.
Oh.
MX-5, Mazda experiment number five.
The impact that that car has had on the world
when you think about everything from commuter cars
to everybody turning them into race cars
to being able to...
Like, what's his name?
Tracy...
Stacey from Trux TV that put a V8 in it.
Yeah.
And all you have to do is beat the...
Firewall back.
Firewall back a little bit.
It's such an impact when you think about that.
And it was funny because I was reading...
A lot of people have written articles about him, obviously.
I didn't actually read into why he passed,
but that car had really made an impact on the automotive world.
Oh, yeah.
Still kind of the gold standard of, you know,
the answer's always Miata.
Yeah.
What should I get, Miata?
Miata.
Yeah, if you don't know, just go buy Miata.
Yeah.
And people will say,
well, you can't take them off-road.
There is somebody in this area that I know you can.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
We've been off-roading the Miata.
It's the little wing that helps.
That's right.
Yeah, exactly.
It's the little spoiler.
It's the little spoiler.
It's the little spoiler, yeah.
Yeah.
Mazda Experiment number five.
Experimental five.
That was five.
And then RX-7 Rotary Experimental.
This is number seven.
That's why there's an RX-3.
If you go way back then.
This is the seventh in the generation.
Was it always the MX-5?
Because I feel like the...
When I figured out what the Mazda MX-5 was,
was more like the early 2000s
when they started labeling MX-5.
Always the MX-5 in Japan.
Oh, that's what it was.
Okay.
Interesting.
Yeah.
Okay.
NSX was like something...
I went, NSX.
I think I have it written down somewhere.
It's a new sports car.
Wow.
Yeah, real.
And then X stands for unknown value.
Literally.
Yeah, it does stand for...
Pretty much, yeah.
New sports car.
Extreme.
Yeah.
The S2000 being the most logical of them all.
The sports car.
With a 2000 CC engine.
As literal as they could get.
Yeah.
You're taking a lot of fun out of this.
Thanks, Mike.
The lore that was in my head for S2000,
that's not even close to what I'm talking about.
Yeah.
When they changed it to the 2.2 liter,
they didn't change the name, unfortunately.
Fair enough.
I think that would have been a nice differentiator.
Yeah.
Then you've got BMW who is like,
let's pull a number and some letters out of my ass,
throw them at our dartboard and say,
this is the new model.
So we're in the midst of...
I have Excel spreadsheets and I've built all the cars out
for the next company car.
And I have built out everything from the Cadillac to BMW,
the 550, which you can't get with...
Unless it's the E...
The Mercedes, the Porsches, everything.
And like...
And then the new S5, which I really like,
but I talked to Brandon.
He's like, it's the first year.
Yeah.
But going through the BMW site and configuring
is one of the most confusing things.
I mean, everybody...
I literally had configured all these different cars
to pass along and it's just been,
BMW sucks for that.
They make beautiful cars, but...
So much easier when it was just...
One series, two series, three series,
or five, seven series.
Which they should just go back to.
We keep saying it and they really, really should.
I think it would actually be in their favor.
I think it would.
Well, it's just all the E stuff that they've...
It's like, oh, it's an...
Which they're already rolling back on.
M235E.74.
Yeah, great.
675309 Gran Turismo.
Well, that's a good transition right now
because in good E news,
Porsche is rolling back as we all talked about,
said and suggested.
And once again, we do this for a living.
We actually know a few things.
We knew they were going to roll this back
because nobody wants an EV.
And I don't mean nobody.
I mean, most people don't.
It doesn't fit most people's use cases in the U.S.
Too far between we drive too much here
because we have no rapid transit.
So we sort of knew it was going to fail.
If you lived in the city, it made perfect sense.
If you drive a short commute relatively less than...
Oh, I don't know.
It doesn't even have to be that short,
like 75 miles each way.
You've got a lot of good options
and good reasons to have an EV in a place
like the Northwest.
But it made no sense for Porsche
to take this on outside of their SUVs.
Nobody wants an electrified box door came in.
I mean, I say that saying 1%,
somebody out there saying,
I was really dying for one.
Yeah, nobody else was.
Yeah, goodbye.
Yeah, congratulations.
That doesn't make a lot of sense for a manufacturer
to cater to the 1%
because at the end of the day,
they need to make money.
All Porsche does is cater to the 1%.
Well, except they are the 1%.
The 1% of that 1% was excited
about the electrified Porsches.
The hybrid and stuff makes sense.
They have to meet emissions.
Things have to go on.
I understand it.
I still don't like it because the weight keeps adding up.
I would be fine with it
if the weight didn't keep adding up.
But 4,000 pound 911s are just not...
Go drive an old one, drive a new one.
You'll be like, oh, yeah, this is better.
It is better.
It's not just you.
Light weight is great.
Yeah.
So...
Didn't you mention...
And I didn't realize this at the time
that the new 911 is a hybrid?
Yeah.
I don't know about that.
Hence the 4,000 pound Turbo S.
It's fast and the weight is low.
And Porsche has always done a good job
of beautifully engineering a chassis
and making everything work.
Porsche lives up to the hype.
We've said it since the beginning of the show.
All Porsches drive great.
But some drive a lot better than others.
And if you are in that market
or just starting out,
I tell everybody,
they always say, yeah, you were right.
Go drive an older Boxster Cayman.
Anyone...
It doesn't even have to be an S.
Just drive any one of them.
They're all fun to drive.
I don't care what kind of cars you've driven.
It's sort of like the...
It's the German Miata in that sense.
And obviously it's a higher end
with more torque and things like that.
But they all drive great.
But the really light early ones,
if you can get one that is
been taken care of and runs well,
they're just plain fun.
Yeah.
And there was that whole moniker
of the, you know,
Porsche's marketing toward, you know,
women, which was a slander
with the Boxster Cayman.
And then everybody drove them and was like,
these are great.
Everybody likes these.
I mean...
Yeah.
No offense.
It's a German company and they
are very misogynistic.
So it doesn't surprise me.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Yeah.
But Porsche...
How dare you say the quiet part out loud.
I know.
I did.
Yeah.
Porsche makes great cars,
but they need to go back to lightweight
and it's nice to see them pedaling
back from the EV nobody wanted.
I have a little Porsche news
that's been kind of interesting
that I've dug into.
So the world has been inundated
with the new GT3 RS,
which is an absolutely amazing car.
Not the one that landed in the river, right?
That one, too.
Yeah.
That's actually a part...
That's still funny.
That's kind of part of that story.
You know, that car's back up and running.
I do.
Yeah.
I do.
Yeah.
If anybody,
if you know about Porsche's
and things like that,
you know that they do a little bit
of paint protection from the factory.
It's horrible.
It yellows quickly.
And, you know,
and Porsche prides themselves
on being methodical
and getting things done.
And we're better than you kind of thing.
The...
And I went into some of the forums
to kind of see if this was a thing
and talk to people.
Obviously, you know,
they don't like to talk to you
when you don't own one of the cars.
Just so we're clear.
I'm fine with that.
But this is...
But the issue is these people
are taking deliveries,
these GT3 RSs,
and they're taking them into their
PPF shops.
And Porsche has the GT3 moniker
along the door.
Well, the problem is
they're putting the PPF on first
and then the sticker,
which you'd go,
oh, that's not a big deal.
But Porsche is guarding these stickers
and they're $3,000 or $4,000.
And yes,
I know people are screaming at the radio
going, well, you can just have
somebody cut one out.
But if you want to keep your car original,
especially the Special Edition GT3 RS,
which is the white with the viper green...
Yeah.
Racing...
Is it lizard?
Lizard greener.
That's what it is.
But the problem is you pull off
that crappy PPF from Porsche,
it takes off half the sticker
and then you have to go through
like an approval...
Somebody was comparing it.
He said it was easier to get the car
than it was to get replacement stickers from Porsche.
Like to prove to them like,
I'm in your system.
And I want this, you know,
and in its huge delays
and people are in the middle of PPF
in their car and they're going,
so there's several driving
around the country right now
and I saw some photos of people that just have
their PPF,
but the bottom is the stickers cut off.
So back in the day
when I used to work for many,
many used to do the same thing.
They would check your van
before they would issue you JCW badges.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
You know, like and because they didn't want to just,
you know, at the time,
I mean that was at the time
before BMW was fully taking over me, but...
Dynan did that too with their van.
Yeah.
They would check your van
to make sure that you were actually like legit.
And it was...
That's fine.
But my point is,
what I'm hearing is
you have to go to your dealership.
The dealership has to prove that you own the car
and then the dealership has to go to Porsche
and then they,
then Porsche puts it on them to go,
well, how did you check this
and why did you check this
and why, you know...
This is ridiculous.
And yeah, there are those people out there
who have their own plotters
and will cut their own stickers and things like that.
But the, you know,
the vinyl's not the same
and it's probably Porsche,
but it's just a simple thing where I go,
why wouldn't you put the sticker on first
and then put the...
Well, if you'd pull the sticker off anyway,
pull the PPF off, I think,
or at least you would...
Not necessarily.
No, you shouldn't.
No, you wouldn't be able to.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The point is you should be able
to just put it on,
put the PPF on over it,
seal it in there
and then you don't have to worry
about the graphic becoming.
Yeah.
Clearly that department
wasn't in the wrong part of...
Just like put it after the PPF,
or before the PPF section.
Yeah.
Let's put the stickers over here
and then we'll put the PPF over there.
Yeah, that's really funny.
I remember replacing the PPF
on my old 944 in the corners.
Like they had that...
I mean, they've been using...
Porsche was an early adopter of PPF stone guard.
More than most people
because they had that big...
I guess that's a better definition.
Stone guard.
Stone guard.
Yeah, it's not.
I mean, it's still PPF,
but they had it on the quarters
and I remember...
It was thick and it yellows.
Yeah, I was just gonna say
that was thick stuff.
So we ended up cutting it out.
Getting it from Porsche was insane.
It was...
Even at the time, it was hundreds of dollars,
which was...
I think in late 90s,
that's a lot of money
for such a small piece.
And I used clear dirt bike guard.
Oh yeah.
And I just got it
and I cut it out.
I just traced it out
and it was actually pretty easy
and just put it on there.
Because I mean, this is...
Yeah, smart.
I think 3M was the only company
making this stuff
and everybody bought it from 3M
and I was like,
I'm not paying for that.
So I worked at a motorcycle shop.
I mean, now with a stack
and everything like that,
it's a little bit different.
Well, that's what I'm saying.
Like, who buys a car like that
and doesn't put something
like a stack on it?
Well, that's the point.
They're going into these installers
and they're going,
we have to peel off
half of your sticker.
Can you get us another sticker?
And then these poor people
are going to Porsche
and Porsche is going,
sure, we'll get to you.
Well, that's kind of what I'm saying.
Like, Porsche should know that.
Yeah, I agree.
That's a really lazy
oversight on Porsche
to not be thinking about it.
I was watching a video on YouTube
and we have to link it
and I will give it,
it's a detailer
who does these videos.
They're like 13 to $15,000
details on these cars.
Because it's paint prep
and it's...
Oh, AMO-NYC?
AMO-NYC?
No, I'll have to,
I kind of find the name
of the guy.
But what he went in
and did is he took
and he literally cut
the old PPF on the top
and the bottom of the sticker
and then PPFed over it.
So it created a little bit
of a lip, but,
I mean, hands of,
you know...
But it was amazing
because this was the limited
edition car.
This is what sent me
on this track and the fact
that it was the white
with the lizard green.
And Porsche didn't want
to give them new stickers
because it's such a rare
edition car.
I guess that's sort of
what I'm thinking.
Like, Porsche of all companies,
of all companies,
if you've been in the
Porsche configurator,
you know how crazy
you can go with it.
It's like, you know,
here's your $200,000
911 Turbo S
as delivered 480
after options, you know?
So...
You got it that cheap?
You're right.
You would think it'd be like,
hey, leave the stickers off.
Yeah.
And then deliver them
with the car.
Yeah.
Oh, there you go.
Because who's not going to buy
when I put PPF on it?
Like, that's just stupid,
especially a limited edition.
Yeah.
Like, S-Tex, the first
thing everybody here
is going to do.
Like, they're going to
have the appointment
at Metropolitan
before they take delivery
of the car.
Yeah.
So you'd think
Porsche of all companies
would be able to be like,
yeah.
And if they don't,
and those are listening,
if you haven't,
you better get on it
You then create a car
that's kind of iconic
and the fact that, you know,
you create a,
you've got a race car
on the street that's got
all the pits and all the,
you know, not my idea,
but yeah.
Yeah.
Anyway.
Interesting online
discussion.
You and I will be
closer to this
because it involves
the new Ranger
that we all want,
actually, here.
We will never get.
And yes, I understand
that a random person
on Facebook who decided
to take me on on this
even though I wasn't
saying anything.
There...
And as I said before,
what did you think
you were going to get?
Well, I didn't.
I didn't.
So it was the,
those guys out of the
review cars out of Colorado,
FD, TFL.
Yeah.
Fast lane track.
So they,
they caught a bunch
of the new Ranger
Superduties
here.
And then they,
they filmed it
and I put the video up
and I went, hey,
this is interesting.
Ford's testing them here.
I didn't say,
hey, maybe we'll get this,
which I mean,
which would be cool.
We won't.
I mean,
as much as I hate the person
that was coming after me,
she was right about,
about offsetting the,
the eco credits
and all that stuff.
Ford would,
and they're not going to have,
they're not going to
compete against their
Superduty here.
Cause if you don't know
this,
Australia doesn't have
Superduties.
They don't have the
F-150s,
350s and Superduties.
So they're testing them
here.
Pedestrian laws,
pedestrian laws,
by the way,
you're wondering that's
why Europe and most
countries don't have
these as they actually
have pedestrian laws
and our trucks
flatten pedestrians
like there's no tomorrow.
And it's,
it's a truck that
I have said that like,
that's probably the only
thing I would probably trade
the Raptor in on is,
is if they ever brought,
well, cause it's,
I mean, it's got the diesel.
It's got, you know,
and they,
Ford's selling them
with the eco beds
or nothing,
the flat beds
and things like that,
but it just kind of
created an inch.
I mean,
and I know this happens
obviously, you know,
because we had,
I remember when,
before we knew the
Ranger Raptors were
going to come here,
they were here because
there was the,
they were testing it.
So if you don't know,
there's a huge,
I don't know what it is,
it's somewhere in Boulder
that they test the cars,
like, and it's,
it's somewhat a lot
where they keep it.
You'll see a lot of cars.
That's where the TFL guys
saw it.
A bunch of Ford,
a bunch of manufacturers
test cars,
specifically in Colorado
for the elevation.
And they go,
there's a lot of places
like pike speak that aren't
pike speaking,
take them and test the
braking like relentlessly.
And it's,
well, it's a road.
So it's free.
Yeah, there's one road
is just a little bit north of,
of Boulder that goes up
to Trail Ridge Road,
which is the highest paved
road in the U.S.
Yeah, it's a little over
12,000 feet.
That's a perfect place
to test, you know,
air consumption on a,
especially on a
fun road.
Done that road.
Yeah.
The lack,
the loss of horsepower
is insane.
It is like 70%.
It's not a little bit.
It's like,
like you lose all your
power.
Yeah.
Even with a turbo car.
Oh yeah.
Oh wow.
Yeah.
Well,
back in the day when I was
riding with two wheels
and not four wheels,
I rode that road
from,
from the winter park side
up over the top
and then down into Loveland.
And yes,
you lose air consistently
right out of here,
right out of the old chest.
Out of the old lungs.
Yeah.
You're like,
yeah.
You're like,
you need to get down.
Even driving the R8,
which is by far the most
powerful car driven over
that road,
it was shocking how much
power even that lost.
But my GTR was like,
I literally had this,
I did Pike's Peak and there,
and I literally had to pull over
and reset the ECU
so bad.
Oh, I remember that was
Dumb and Fuel, right?
It was Dumb and Fuel because
it was so lean.
Yeah.
It was just like,
I went through a full tank
in less than 100 miles.
That's nuts.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Crazy.
Yeah.
GTR's didn't altitude
do not mix very well.
That's weird.
That's funny.
GTR stands for.
They're tuned for,
oh yeah,
what's GTR stand for?
You've seen that,
you've seen that,
I think that's,
I think you're right,
yeah.
Yeah.
So to my point,
so I mean,
I put that on there.
I didn't say like,
hey, this is coming to America.
I said, hey,
look, they're testing these
here.
And there was,
you know,
there's always some in a
reform.
And unfortunately,
this person happened to
have the word administrator
under it.
So I didn't really push it.
And they took that
personally.
Was that just the regular
one of the Ranger forums?
Yeah.
Just the regular Ranger
forums?
Yeah.
But you know,
and she goes,
they're never coming here.
You shouldn't even post this.
You're,
you know,
you guys are falling for this.
And I said,
well, first of all,
we don't know that.
Like we don't.
We don't know what Ford's
going to do.
And she proceeded to,
you know,
tighten me out this rant.
I mean,
like acting like she worked
for Ford.
And she's like,
she's like,
I'm telling you,
they're never going to come
here.
Again,
I didn't say like,
hey,
you dumb,
you know,
and it was funny.
It's my age.
I'm learning to kind of
pull back and go,
oh yeah,
I'm going to wait.
And I'm going to comment
tomorrow.
And I realized that
everything was in my hand.
Somebody eventually came
into the chat and said,
because she's like,
they're never going to say
they're never going to bring
it here.
And somebody goes,
well,
they said they were never
going to bring the Ranger
Raptor here and we're all
driving them right now.
She went unhinged.
And he goes,
he goes,
she goes,
well,
those that knew never
said that that was
never coming.
And I'm like,
I'm going to go back to
the internet troll.
My favorite responses to those
long,
those long responses is
okay,
okay.
Thanks.
I'm not reading all that shit.
Clearly you're smarter than I
am.
It was funny because like I
said,
I was just saying,
hey,
it's here they're testing it.
Maybe we can see it.
Like I would love to see
that mule.
I think that would kind of
a neat,
a neat kind of thing.
I think so too.
But
she's right.
Like,
I mean the fact that
the super duty name has never
been the first time they're
ever using it outside of that.
Oh,
sorry,
you're right.
Correct.
The 250 and 350 chassis.
The fact that we're only
getting it in Australia.
I mean,
where those guys will build
those UTS up.
Amazing.
And it's a diesel.
So it's just kind of
an interesting,
you know,
I hope Ronnie Dahl gets one.
He's got a grenadier right
now.
I believe.
Yeah,
he does.
Yeah.
But he's the perfect
candidate for that track.
So interesting.
Is it solid axle front?
Do you know?
Because all this,
all the super duty commercial
trucks,
not super duty,
it's a Ford name,
but I mean the commercial
small,
even half 10 trucks over there,
half 10 sub half 10 trucks in
Australia.
They're almost all solid front
axle.
I'm going to have to look
into that.
I don't know.
That would be really cool.
That would be a reason
to have one.
They're going to be wrong.
There are a lot of trade
offs of solid front axle,
even on small trucks.
It gets.
I actually,
I think
that would be cool for
people using them in the
commercial sense.
For us,
it's not worth it anymore.
After.
Seeing what they need to do
is just do the front
disconnect sway bar.
Because like on the Bronco,
like on the Bronco,
why the Raptors,
the rest of Raptors.
I mean,
there's got to be some reason
for it hasn't done it,
but my God is it amazing
in the Bronco.
It is incredible.
I don't know why they
didn't do it on the Ranger.
Yeah, me neither.
That should be.
It works so well.
Yeah, for anything you would
do with a truck like that,
like it's,
you're not going to rock.
I'm saying it's not a
rock crawler.
It's not a Jeep.
You're not going to run into
the limitations or the problems
you would run into.
Right.
Because it's like,
you don't buy a Ranger
or even a half ton truck
without,
unless you're doing a solid
actual swap.
Yeah.
So from 99% people,
they would just be a really
nice truck to have.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think a great utility
truck for sure.
Yeah.
I will say,
obviously,
speaking for somebody
that owns a Ranger,
that platform is amazing.
I really like it.
Like,
do I think it's the most
amazing thing for towing
things like that?
Absolutely not.
No, it's not.
I know,
but I'm saying like,
just even the,
like you could,
like the regular Larry,
it's an FX forges will
tow a lot better.
Obviously,
I know it's a suspension issue,
but I've been really
impressed with that truck.
I can't believe you've passed
me in miles.
I did.
I just passed you.
Yeah.
Which is shocking.
Oh boy,
I just got the stink eye
for that one.
Well,
I think you're,
we both,
we've all been out done
by Brian,
who I think now has 22,000
six months into that truck.
I don't know.
Yeah.
When did he get that truck?
Did he get it like in the spring?
He got it
not long before we left.
Yeah.
Oh,
you got early summer.
Yeah.
No, it's this year.
He's gotten it like.
Oh,
yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
But you know,
he's,
he is the ambassador of
wear down the tire.
Yeah.
I was going to say he earns
the name every time.
So,
yeah,
he's constantly out there,
and we were.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
I know that's true.
But I mean,
it would be fun to be able to
go out and goof off a little bit
and.
Yeah,
it would be.
He's always now that I got
the tent off now.
It's like,
you know,
everything's.
That is,
I forgot that you did that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Why did you do that just
because.
So in winter,
I typically take the,
I've been taking the rack
and the,
and the tent off just
because I'm not going to
use it for like four,
five,
I don't have a heater and all
that kind of stuff.
And so.
Would you like one?
Yeah.
But I like one.
No, I'm serious.
Would you like one?
I literally have a spare
Chinese diesel heater,
which is what they're called.
By the way,
don't get mad at me.
That's what they called.
I wasn't going to get mad.
I'm not talking to
the listeners.
Like that's what they're
called.
They're called cheap
Chinese diesel heaters.
That's what they're called.
And I have a spare one
that I'm not using.
It's sitting right over there
and it's yours if you
want it.
All right.
We'll talk about it.
I took the tent off.
And as I'm looking at it
in the garage standing
vertically right now,
I'm going to let it find
a new home.
I'm going to get a different
tent for next year.
Probably.
I'm looking at inspired.
Oh, yeah.
I mean that those tents
weigh less than a hundred
pounds.
Like it's ridiculous
how light those things
are.
And I'd love to be able
to take it on and off
whenever I want to.
So full circle.
This is what I'm talking
about.
Once you start buying
lightweight stuff and
everybody kept thinking
lightweight.
This is racing.
With less weight on it.
Like a lot better.
They handle better.
They drive better.
Your mileage is better.
Everything is better
when you start reducing weight.
And I know we have to meet
safety standards
and we have a lot of
reinforcement.
Things keep getting bigger.
But the days of just
packing as much crap on
your vehicle for you
overlanders needs to
come to an end.
It's not good for you.
It's not good for the
environment.
It's not good for your
trucks.
How many times have we
seen people overload
their springs?
Yeah.
Yeah.
My F-150 I overloaded
him like way too much.
And even with the
Ranger he was overloaded.
Now I got that
back end up again
again.
But that's an extra
250, 300 pounds
back there without any
gear.
And then when you add the
gear then you're fully
loaded down with that
suspension.
Well I mean especially
we see it a lot in the
overlanding.
And you spend a lot of
time at these
overland fairs.
But we see so many
people that are going
higher and I'm like
that's going to
I don't understand that
concept right now.
Like that's your
center of gravity
goes up and that's
not good.
Yeah I'm not saying there's
not use cases for it.
But I'm saying
I get having the gear
but you can find
lightweight gear that
you know.
Yeah and it's coming down
in price which is great.
But go back to what you
really need for
not just your overlander
for your car too.
I mean it's nice to
have all that stuff
and believe me as
an accumulator of stuff.
Yeah.
Like probably the
king in our friend group
maybe next to Brian
maybe Brian I don't know.
But I have
way too much stuff.
But I have learned
over the years that
less is more and
better.
Like even with
even with the Bronco
I've been talking to
Shana about it
and stuff because she wants
the when we get
when the new
Bronco Raptor comes out
she'll probably be
first in line.
She loves that thing
but I'm already like
I'm not doing
a quarter of the mods.
I'll do the radio.
It'll be stock bumpers
probably stock suspensions
stock wheels
and the winch out on
and then 10 the windows
and call it a day.
Yeah.
Like maybe some lights
in the front because
it's nice to drive
at night with lights.
It's such an easy add-on though.
But it just the rest
it just doesn't need.
It's great to have
it's it's fun to have
that kind of stuff
to build it
and I love building stuff
I'm not against that
but like it just drives
better.
Yeah.
Driving the stock one
next to hers like hers
is by far capable
with the lift
and the sliders
and everything else on it
but we're like man
just some a little
more time
picking some little
better driving lines.
It'll do everything
we want to do.
Yeah.
And I think
would you still do
maybe the diffs get played?
Yeah.
That's about it.
And even then
that doesn't actually need it.
The diff is probably
the toughest part
of what's hanging down
from the bottom of your car.
And so
like those times in Moab
and when we're in St. George
we'll be going to
Sand Hollow.
So that's a whole
like that's a whole
different place.
But that's
but that's what got me
thinking
was we were talking
we love to talk about
our projects
and how we're going to
build stuff next.
And we're like
I kind of want the
lightweight for the
off the high speed
you're not putting stuff on
you're like
fiberglass fenders
we're not going that extreme
either but
we just come down to that point
with all of our vehicles
we're like yeah
what can we take off?
Let's make it lighter.
I will say no matter what
the rear shock mounts
that we put on
you always put on
I will always do that.
Those are good.
That was that saved a lot
I mean those
those took a good beating
in Moab.
So yeah
so I would have been
I would have loved the idea
of being able to shed
300 pounds off that
to do pelzer range
on that
without 300 pounds
to see how the truck
performed
instead of
watching you turtle yourself.
Yeah
I mean I had no weight
on my car
and Megan and I
almost died so
I can't imagine
like you down there
that tent just taking you down
so yeah
Yeah
so that approach down
to the bottom
is pretty vertical right
going straight down
into that bowl
it's more than you
can see
really
or that you want to see right
yeah
does she bail out
in the middle of that
or after
she couldn't
because we couldn't
yeah
well
it wasn't that narrow
but when
the truck fell like this
I came towards that wall
and she could not
and until I went forward
and went down
like
she couldn't get out
and where was the water
like at the bottom
like where you got
your tires wet
oh yeah
so we
we're coming down
into there
and I've watched
a bunch of videos
since then
and I realize
what I did
is the fact
I should have straddled
the whole
part of this
is when we went to do that
it was kind of quick
it was like
we were all standing there
and all of a sudden
Michael's like
hey I'm going
and it's like
okay crap
and we kind of just rush
there
and I didn't get myself
in the mindset
of turning on my cameras
and stuff like that
and I would have seen
that and gone
because like Brian
followed us
and he went
it was fine
but
there is a large
dip that will take
the truck to the right
and bring
your left rear up
to the point
this is just to start
to get down there
like
I would imagine coming back up
that would be worse
than coming out the other way
I don't know if you could do it
that's a good point
I don't
I mean
I would think you'd be able to straddle it
like you would going down
but
I mean there's people
that go down
hell's revenge
that's true
that's the next
that's the next check
that's crazy to do that
yeah
crazy to do that
but I'll tell you
the truck pushing
your trail control
to the limit
right
you two know more
better than anybody
in the fact
of how
psyched
not psyched I was
about doing that
and knowing
that I needed to do it
for myself
and how stupid
easy it was after
I mean Michael
was 90% of that stupid
easy part
but
it's just
and you know
what he brings that out
and all of us
he really does
sure
we can do this
you just listen to me
okay
truck
listen to Michael
yeah
so
yeah that's
you know
I still want to be
I mean
I yearn for
for Moab
I think it was funny
because I think
we had another trip
scheduled this
it kind of got cancelled
because not Moab
but we were going to go to
McCall
and I drove through McCall
at that time
but I missed that area
like I just
it's just
I miss McCall
and I miss Moab
like I really do
Moab's a great time
it's just
that was a fun day
I mean
like I said last time
we were on the show
and I was talking about
better misconception
on what Hell's Revenge was all about
yeah
and that
it was complete naivete
like complete
like oh yeah
you can see
people going up
and then coming back out
it's like you know
is this a short Disneyland ride
like you know
four hours later
and like
three miles later
yeah
four hours
yeah
and my you know
Apple Watch heart rate
was like spike the whole time
so
right
well yeah
you do this with your rack
and your tent
well the thing that people don't understand
is when you come out of the parking lot
that lion
the little lion
it's not little lion
it's a little lion
no the baby little lion's back
it's around the corner
because the real lion's back
is closed now
right
but you come into a
what I'm going to call a rock garden
that is a real good test
oh yes it is
like you may not want to be here
like this is
I mean
you better rethink yourself
oh by the way
you can't get out of here
so you better finish it
it's a gatekeeper kind of thing
but like that's the main like
oh okay this is going to be
a little bit more
well that first
that first approach
when you come
and you go up that steep
stair-step it up
that's not an easy thing
to get a good one on either
so that's where Michael
really came key
yeah
Michael
we would have been
I mean we probably would have
made it through
but
thank you Michael
there may have been some dents
there may have been some dents
there may have been some dents
there's plenty of dents
there's plenty of dents
there's plenty of dents
yeah there's plenty of dents
just not on the body
but you know
yeah just on the steps right
yeah just steps
in the
my body
tailpipe
oh yeah
tailpipe
I'm kind of leaving that there
what can I get it fixed
and then I was like
I'm going to leave it
it's like
it just reminds me
how much fun I had that day
I still have one of the hangers
that's totally screwed up
but it doesn't rattle
so I'm like
yeah whatever
yeah
I was kind of hoping for more
out of my hitch
but you know
I needed to relocate
my
my trailer plug anyway
so
thank you so much
for that
well you have to understand
that we have those
because of
the guy that went and did that
and ripped his off
so therefore
yeah
they brought
they just introduced
a new hitch slider
oh
and it's an aluminum
like the 4122 ones
they borrowed that design
pretty heavily
but then they added a
uh
uh delranner
there's a UPHM
I think I've seen those
and they
they're not that expensive
that was a hundred bucks
and it goes
that's on the bottom of it
and that stuff works great
it's
oh it's just like
the slide stuff
yeah like a
cutting board
and so
they've added on the
hitch slider
right on that little lip
it's the new thing
it's an add-on
or it's a whole new hitch
it's a hitch slider
it's a hitch slider
it's an insert
yeah cause that other one
you put on the Broncos
not cheap
no
it's like a hundred and eighty bucks
yeah
yeah that's the 4122
and it's really well made
and I tend to
try and buy
everything made in USA
for that
I went with the cheaper one
it worked
yeah it works great
yeah
but they
but theirs are
in different colors too right
they have like
three different colors
silver, black and red
red again cause it matches
I'm gonna go on the Bronco of course
I put the
I put the other one on the
the F-150 Raptor
and I put this one on the Bronco
not cause it's cheaper
cause I think it'll work better
okay
you have to show me
yeah
you need to help me
design new graphics
for the side of my truck
we need to figure that out
I think
I think cause
I'm missing
having the Raptor graphics
on there
and I took them off
because there was so much
pinstriping that I had to get
everything off there
yeah Nick is regretting
not having full STEC
PPF on the side of his truck
right now
yeah
there's no turning back now
like now it's like
paint
I'd have to paint the truck
and then
yeah
so I got my share
I went up to Ernie's one day
and did some photos
and stuff up there
and I got some of Ernie's
but then
I went up to Stampede one day
and on the early section of Stampede
coming from this side
over
during the week
the logging trucks are running
oh yeah
and so
only on that first section
once you get up
and over the hill
and past the little lake
and then you drop down
into that valley
they're no longer there
once you get into the valley
so the high speed valley section
um
that's the first place
the first section
oh crap I'm going faster than I thought
yeah
so much fun
but
that earlier section
those trucks are not
they are not slowing down
they are going full gas
yeah
so and they will not move over
for you
like you got to like
they're on their road
their road
their road
100%
and then they'll give you a wave
of like
get the frick out of the way
yeah
your number one
trucker thinks I'm number one
you're number one
oh no I'm number two
yeah
yeah
no I just did a number two
yeah
yeah
yeah
but yeah so
yes I'm sure you're regretting
not having any ppf on the side
but our trucks
our beds are hippy man
they're not
they're not skinny
they're hippy
yeah
I mean
and it was funny
cause I was talking to him
and I think we talked about
the show and the fact that
like
most of my pinstripes
like when we went
when Brian and I
we went and did
natches
natches
and then we accident
again on accident
yeah
all my pinstripes
on my passenger side
cause I'm
constantly in my mirror
looking at my driver's side
I'm not
you're not thinking about that
but yeah
well some of those turns are
pretty tight with those
tree roots sticking out
so you gotta pay attention
to what the hell
what's going on
it was interesting
and I
I know you listen to the show
but like
going
Brian and I
doing it
in the dry
was one way
coming back
and when that trail is
wet
it's a lot easier to
sort of slide into place
like
yeah
it's still
factor
yeah
terrifying stuff
you told us
she wasn't going to talk
I know
she said she wasn't going
to talk
I agree
yeah
I'll tell you
well so
you got the new slider
I mean
you're not doing
anything
so you put the old one
on the F-150
on your F-150
yeah
your eco
your eco vehicle
here
my commuter
your commuter
did you
did you narrow that list down
from the last time
a little bit
yeah I mean if I have to
I'm really leaning toward
another golf
I really liked
Evans that we bought
from my nephew
and I'm
thinking a
a mark 7.5
sort of the pinnacle
of those
I won't go manual
because it'll be commuter
I'll go DSG
but
pretty reliable car
fun little car to drive
it's got good storage
space with the seats down
so if I do
need to run to town
and get stuff
I can fit almost
anything besides plywood
back there
stick the 2x4s
right out through this under
we've all done it
he wrecked it
at least once or twice
or through the side window
just make sure you fold
the mirror in
yeah that's
I'm leaning toward one of those
we'll see what happens
with how much
I got to go to work
and things like that
so are you kind of
just you're home now
because all the shows
are over
yeah I have
so now we've
transitioned into
snowmobile season
so now I'm going to
snowmobile shows
starting in the end
of October
Colorado first
then Montana
and then the last one
will show be
oh it actually
got canceled
so just Colorado
and Montana
and yeah
it's snowmobile season
right now
and then I'm done
after that
then I'm done until
there's rumors about us
going to see yes this year
in January
and then
it's a super electronic show
yeah
yeah but you're going to be busy
we both
I know your
guys are cooking some stuff up
I don't know what
but I know
because I know your face
because you're like
I'm going to be busy
yeah I don't
I don't know what you're talking about
yeah
yeah we're going to be busy
and I think we've
added more shows for next year
and
and we're doing a bigger
footprint at the
Overland show
so we were doing just
10 by 10s
and 10 by 20s
and now we're jumping up
to a 20 by 30
so we're
we're going to be
adding
vehicles in our booth
as well as
you know just the
standard footprint
so we've got
we've got a lot
brewing
like either like the
the plain one
in plain here
go down to Redmond
is it Redmond?
Redmond Organ
yeah that'd be fun
yeah I like the shows
where there's
like actual products
like car shows and stuff
still to this day
sort of bore me
just because I see them
all the time
but I like the stuff
I like seeing the new
technology out there
that's what I'm into
new stuff
it's sort of like SEMA
without all the SEMA
SEMA's a lot
that's a good way
to put that though
yeah it is right
because we're going to
SEMA it's a lot of
why are you here?
we could make your refrigerator
talk
no
I've watched Terminator
this is not happening
yeah
it's just a lot of trucks
parked in parking lots
that shouldn't be
driving anywhere
anytime with
at least 40 different
types of rock lights
on inside of every
you know whatever
I laughed the toaster
laughed we shot the toaster
yeah
exactly
what's the next
what's the next plan
for your ranger
oh that's a good question
I know stuff came off
you know what
maybe I should retract that
question
maybe this is not the right
audience for that
I think
we've already talked about
I think tires
are probably going to be
my change
I can't stand the KO3
I just hate them
especially when it's wet
they're just not a great
tire
they're just a horrible
tire
they're just so bad
and
gee
it's going to get
wet here soon I think
yeah
you think it's going to get
later this week
tomorrow
so I'm just not a
fan
I'm not a fan of
them
I like the dirt tracks
and the wet
they don't last
that well
but they hold up
just fine for
what we do
yeah
I was
incredibly
obviously I never had
KO2s
in Moab
but I was
impressed by the
KO3s on the rock
oh they work awesome
in Moab
they were fine
they're great in the
just or not
designed for
like you know
it
Ford puts way too much
pressure in it
and when you buy a brand
new truck they just
put in 45 pounds
and those tires
those tires are not designed
for that
that kind of air
and especially when
it's wet
it's just a bad idea
so you range
your owners out there
don't do that
I did figure out
actually this weekend
or this week
the simpler way
to take off
our fender well
is to get to
the back of those
lights
yes
it's a lot easier
to get in there
yeah and that's
what I've been seeing
is to change out
what we're talking about
is to change out
the
making our raptors
look like raptors
yeah the eyebrows
from
from white to
orange
yeah
and the kit's not
expensive what
100 bucks
or something like that
I mean
there's the signature
Lux kit
that's 200
but
that's from
Australia those
ones but
eBay has now
caught on
I always look at the
installation time
on a product
and that helps me
determine if I want to
spend more
because if it takes me
if it's easy
then I'll just
no matter if I
get them from
eBay or I get them
from signature Lux
it's the same thing
it's just a board
it's an LED board
oh I know I'm just saying
how hard is it to install
that
he's talking about
the install time
it's going to be
it's the install time
is going to be
oh yeah you're right
it's a higher quality
product
so then
yeah
I think the driver's side
is harder than
because of where the battery is
speaking of battery
that
the whole other subject
we should probably talk about too
yeah
stop breaking shit
yeah
but yeah
I've seen that
that one side's a little easier
to get to that board
but
but going in through the fender
well is
is ten times either
and everybody trying to go in
through the top
and loosening the fender
and then trying to go around that
loosen the fender things
not a horrible idea
but you'll end up
been in your fender
yeah you'll end up
been in your fender
don't worry when I get
I'm going to let you do it first
and then I'll see
whether or not I'm going to do it
fair enough
yeah
there you go
yeah
what happened to your battery
so Sunday morning
I go out to my truck
and
try to start it up
nothing
it's just clicking
the dash is lighting up
I'm seeing like
15 different error codes
popping up on our dashes
and
I go in the house
and I tell
and I told Sammy
I go
my truck's not working
and she goes
what
like that's impossible
so she comes back down
and
I'm sure enough
dead or no doornail right
so we jump it
with a jump box
that she bought me
I don't even know
how many years ago
six, seven years ago
for Christmas
that has
literally saved our
patootie
more times than not
and other peoples too
like we're driving through
the parking lot of the casino
and somebody's got a dead
X5
and I just walk over
go
thank you
just open the back for me
and I'll just jump
your car for you
and
so I took it into Ford
and
you know
half the battery cells
and this battery's
not even a year old yet
so the GMC did the same thing
yeah
and so they just replaced it
but it's
it's really really strange
really strange
you know how that just died off
so my GMC
smoked both batteries
in the first year
and I had no
mods to that truck at all
not a thing
no lights
nothing
and luckily
of all things
I have a spare battery
for the trailer
I wire into the trailer
when I take it
just for
just for stuff
and I
luckily had that
so I
really charged
didn't get them to charge
they were just smoked
but I was able to get it
running enough
with the other battery
wasn't made for the truck
to get it to the dealer
do you think
that these manufacturers
are under
are underpinning
these batteries
for the amount of
for the amount of electronics
that we have in them now
oh probably
yeah
it means
yeah
even for the amount of
electronics they have stock
it's because it's always
you know
what's the balance
but battery technology
is getting better
but the manufacturers
are getting worse
like
look at German cars
for a perfect example
we have to code the battery
to the car
yeah
same thing has to happen
in like the
I think in my GMC
they had to do the same thing
as well
they actually have to run
like they have to check
the voltage when it's
installed
like
actually literally
pair it to the vehicle
really
and then it has to charge
at a certain level
so it's a lot more
sensitive than
it's ever been
so the idea
the days of
going to AutoZone
getting a new battery
but yeah
yeah
I don't like that
well it's not like
so it's Lamborghini
well that's Audi
sorry
yeah
it's not like the Ranger motor
it needs that much cranking
to get it started
but it's just
to me it seemed weird
to lose half the cell
so quickly
but
Dan's example
I mean
it was pointing more toward
alternator
than it was pointing to
or anything
cause I was
I don't feel the crap
you got running in there
on your tag form stuff
yeah I know
so that's what my wife said
but she was full of it
the battery wasn't
yeah
so when I pulled up the voltage
you know
cause we can obviously
configure our dashes
to put up different gauges
so putting up the voltage gauge
it was watching it
just bounce all over the place
so it was
to me it was
it was strange
I'm glad
you know
glad it's still under warranty
yeah
and that's when
you know
our advisor
Brooklyn
who's a
super cool dude
who take care of us
more times than I told me
that Garf is going to get
his seats fixed
oh awesome
yeah
dumbest thing
there are so many people
that are
I mean
I have sent probably
50 people
not to Brooklyn
but throughout the country
into their dealership
to have it done
the fact that there was
that bad of a quality issue
like
I understand
it's horrible
it's really bad
50 trucks that came out of
the factory
Recaro had a bad day
whatever
but like
this is a roaring thing
it is a huge thing
so it should have been
a fix
it should have been a
running fix
yeah
just like the j-brace
they never fixed mine
and they should
it's covered under warranty
so you should probably
get that fixed before your
side curtain
gets your warranty points
right over there
well the problem is
I don't put anything
on the bed
I mean I know
I should talk to Brooklyn
about that if that's something
I'm waiting for
they sent us
in typical fashion
Ford has a recall
on our cameras
but they sent us
a letter that said
you have a recall
it's dangerous
but we don't have the parts
let me live in
ignorant bliss
send it to me
and go hey
there's a recall
how's your punch card
going for your alignment
like your
your frequent
your frequent
your punch card
are you going to get
a free alignment here
pretty soon because
I think you're
you're probably in there
you want the honest answer
yeah
and I'm not talking about
your hookstar
I have gone
I have gone outside
of the Ford
for your alignment
oh yeah
should you go to
Schwab or something
yeah
because
I mean
God bless Ford
it's just not
it's
it was never right
they put a lot of time
and effort into it
the last time
they put a tech in the car
with me
we drove it
I mean
and it was like
and I am anal about this
okay
and I've said it
a thousand times
I wouldn't care
if the wheel was
a little bit off
if I didn't have
a stupid 12 o'clock
parking on me
you and I are the Zaks
sorry I mean
us every time
at the end of the day
I can see how
off it is
yeah
so yeah
I went outside
and to be honest
it took
it's
I mean
eventually
I'm going to beef up
I'm going to beef up
the
I don't know if I'll do
the full steering rack
but I'm going to do
the beefed up
the tie rod ends
and things like that
because they're paper thin
yes
so
there is
new
it's new technology
for consumers
let's put it this way
it's not that hard
to do your own alignment
if you
I know Michael did it
in the driveway
yeah
I was saying
now you can get
the LiDAR built into your
phone now
you can literally get the
alignment tabs
for your
and apps for your phone
that can help you with
alignment
it's pretty
interesting to watch it
coming to the market now
because it's even
it's professional grade
this is not just like
something you buy off Amazon
which you probably could
but they have
professional grade systems
that are meant for
texts to do this
because your phone
works well
just as well as the
alignment machine
at this point
for stuff
it's not going to be
perfect for cars
like
but for most cars
it's like you said
watching Michael do it
you kind of
once you understand
how it all works
you're like oh
that actually is pretty
straightforward
especially if you have
a solid axle in the rear
of your truck
you have really
like that technology
the shock suspension
has changed
but how your rear
setup is not
and so
like centering your
axle
and getting your
alignment right
really is a pretty
it's
it's basic math
it's not advanced math
it's basic math
well it's also
my brain
still thinks it's
off
it's not
so does mine
it's not
like I can
put it on a straight
piece of freeway
and I can
let it
center itself in the
row
and that is
12 o'clock
in my brain
I'm you know
I kind of
liken it to
it's hard to center
punch a
Prius in the
fast lane
if my red stripe
is to the left
or to the right
I want to be
able to do
a crock
with a
pretty beefy bumper on it
it's always in the left
lane
and the
you know
he let the voice take over
and he just
plowed that
left lane
and I was just like
okay I know that's wrong
but God that was
satisfying to watch
could I watch that again
one of those a year
like one of them a year
where you go okay
yeah the dude was doing
like 50
wouldn't get to the way
there's a huge line
of cars behind him
so he just goes
whacking just moves him
just like pushes him
down the road
and shoves him off
I was like
I know it's a criminal
offense
but God I sympathized
with that guy
we're going to put the link
in the show notes for you
yeah
what not to do
yeah
yeah
anyway
yeah that's good
cool
yeah
Ryan's
great catching up with you
yeah I miss hanging out
with you guys you know
so I'm glad I finally got
a chance
thank you for bringing her
I'm really excited
she got off early enough
she's so busy all the time
yeah so
excellent
well for this episode
of the Avans podcast
is always I'm Nick
enjoy the drive
About this episode
The hosts dive into a range of automotive topics including Porsche's retreat from unpopular EV models, the significance behind car model acronyms like Subaru's BRZ and Mazda's MX-5, and the challenges of maintaining limited edition Porsche GT3 RS stickers under paint protection film. They also discuss off-roading experiences, vehicle modifications, and the complexities of modern vehicle batteries and alignments. The conversation blends technical insights with personal stories, highlighting the balance between performance, practicality, and evolving automotive technology.
Brian Dallas joins us this week to hang out in the studio and talk Porsches, Ford mistakes, and more. In good Porsche news, Porsche rolls back their stupid idea to make Caymans and Boxsters full EV because they realized 99% of their customers don't want one. In bad Porsche news, Porsche doesn't know 99% of their customers cover their cars in Stek PPF and doesn't want to give them new stickers when they do. In dumb Ford news, Ford doesn't know we all want the Ranger Super Duty with a diesel. Someone please volunteer us to run an automotive company for a week.
