Hi everyone. Welcome back to another episode of Reload Podcast. My name is Lee Maxwell

and I'm joined as usual by Nigel Lamont and Connor McCann.

This, like the Alpha, is episode 147 and we're going to talk about some news,

some new with us. I don't have very much, but hopefully you guys do.

We'll probably talk about Black Friday and any daddles we've had.

What we've seen.

And then we have a few questions for the end. So we'll get started with what's new with us. So

Connor, what's new with you?

Before we move on, sorry, a few callbacks for the last episode.

So the first one was I talked about the auto trader protest of the traders.

It sort of walked away or just their usage in auto trader, Dosh GTI.

One of the vague boys has sent a message basically saying that

big YouTuber called Calvin Cardari, he's a car trader and he's set up a separate trading site

now called enterredge.com and I checked it out and I think there's three and a half thousand cars

on already. Yeah, for start out, that's not too bad.

If he already has a bit of a following.

Not a bad search function. The only thing it doesn't have is distance filter on it,

but basically a decent site. At the end of the day, a basic tech guy that builds websites,

that's not a big deal to do like a filter system.

Well, you think of what you're comparing that to auto trader's website, which has been going

for 20 years, like if that's his startup go, happy days, like he's not doing too bad.

So thanks for sending that in, Josh. I didn't realize that was happening.

Also, the YouTube's the last time I had talked about R.E. Engineering working on R.E.S.2.

Shane Duggan. Yes, he's in and he pointed out that Johnny Smith had done a video on this

about a barn found. I haven't watched that video to see if

R.E. Engineering came along and started, or he showed where he bought it from.

But YouTube connections, well spotted Shane. The other one as well,

throwbacks. I had a voice note, so I can't actually read it out, but from Michael from

Limit Slip Differences. And he was talking about, we had mentioned the beams engines

for Jimmy Oaks's video. And he was saying like here, they've quite a bad rep for being like

shitty and like unreliable. And he says it's down to basically boys not looking after them

and abusing the shit out of them. He had one that he ran on 1060 oil, which it believes the same

weight as like the M3s, M5s, like motorsport oil. And he was like, look after them and they will

do anything you want kind of thing and they will take the abuse, but it's just

basically Neanderthals abusing the shit out of them and expecting them to

attend to the work. Lexus, I wouldn't have thought.

You wouldn't have thought. I would have thought.

Well, it's like a G60. Like Danny always says from People's Cart, G60s are a good engine.

You just have to understand how to service them, what you need to do to look after them.

And if you do, they're fine. But the G60s have a rep as being

unreliable, you know, blow up all the time, blah, blah. But

same as anything, I guess you're gonna look after them properly.

It's called mechanical sympathy. Yeah.

Uh, new with me then. God, word of a start. So

You're a busy man. I've seen the socials. You're a busy.

I have busy man. So the big news is my Mark III has moved.

This will be the first time that if you only know me from this podcast, I have a Mark III.

Buried in the dark shed. Yeah, that used to be my show car.

Otis. Yeah, Otis. So it's been,

that car wasn't intentionally put away and not to be worked on,

much like most projects, but like it went into the workshop initially for work.

My plan originally was to bring the car to America in 2019.

I find rot in the strut tires. I think you mentioned working on welding on the first few

episodes. Yes. I did a wee bit of welding at the engine bay and stuff and I replaced the strut

tires. But when we decided to build the garage and then we had to cut power to the workshop,

that was all done over COVID and it was hard to get anybody to like when I say cut power,

I mean, we took the power line away because it was overhead and getting that reconnected was

quite a time because it had to be with the ground works done and then the garage was up.

So I wasn't actually able to do anything in there. And then once the garage went up,

the first big thing that really hit, which came out of nowhere, was putting the back panel in

your Jetta. And then, so that took away from that. And then there was something else. Then I built

the Mark II and then we're back on the Jetta and it was like, it was like, I really want to work

on that, but it's not convenient. Plus now, all the tools are in the garage to do anything up there.

You had a car running up. But the Mark II was more achievable. Yes. You know, it was put it

together as opposed to a full on build. So Stefan, as I talked about, wanted to use the workshop

to put a project together. And he said to me, it was like,

go up and get the power going, blah, blah, blah. So it was like happy days. Yes. So

the power's back on with lights. There's a hole in the back needs built up, which I think I

mentioned in the last episode. But I need to get the car out of there to give him space.

So we shift a few things around, get rid of a few things in the garage.

And then it was time to try and get my Mark III moved down. Now, I will say you will know what I

said down as down a hill. So that hill is about a three meter drop over 10 meters. So it's not

massively steep, but it's challenging. You wouldn't like the car to let, you wouldn't let the car

roll on its own. Never mind the fact that there's no suspension on either end of the car. So

or up until quite recently, any wheels or any wheels. So last Saturday, the back axles in but

didn't even have stub axles. So I went digging and I found a set of Mark II stub axles, which

ironically I think came off my Mark II when I put the Mark III stub axles in it to do the

brake upgrade and put discs on didn't bother a caliper or anything. And then so basically I

wanted to roll on the back so put stub axles, discs, burns. It felt really weird because the

burns have been lying in the bag. And so it was like tapered burns and they were full of dirt.

And I was like, if this was me, I'd be screaming like, Oh, new burns, but it's just as a roll down

hills. It's fine. Built it all up. And then I needed back shocks and fuck like I keep old shitty

coilovers for moving cars around. No, if you're stuck, I don't know if I've given them away.

I definitely didn't throw them out because I'm a hoarder, but I've probably given them to someone

to move their car and I haven't got them back. So you struggled to find Mark II stroke III rears

rears. And I had standard ones lying there. So a standard shock and a standard spring which

are about four foot long. And but did no top plate where the spring goes against.

So I was like, what the fuck? And in a bad temper, I was starting to get fucked off at this point.

So I put the shock in with the spring and no top hat on it. And then did the same on the other

side and basically just jack the axle up until the spring sat in the strut tower and just let

it ride that way. I was like, I'm not going down the road. I would have driven on it probably.

Did I have to? No. Got the back end down the ground, car nearly fell on me. That was fun.

And then once I had that done, I just walked away and the front end was sitting on

and they're really strong. So the front end was nice. And then I sent a message in the group chat

and I was like, is anybody available tomorrow morning to help move this thing? Avengers assemble.

So yeah. So there was the two of us, obviously, Jake arrived, Potty arrived and Richie arrived.

She had 62 out in force. Yep. And that was we're sent before we recorded every one of us turned

up in GTNI dub shed gear. Excellent. Where do we get our clothes?

None of us ever buy clothes. Dub shed workwear. That's it. Dub shed.com. Check it out. And

it had been in there that long. The yard had got like no one vegetation,

like the trees, the leaves and shit all fall off. And I like to case, but it can't rot into the

ground because it's concrete. And it's like all sludgy slimy and there's moss grows. So it took

me about half an hour to dig a path through and got that cleared. And then when everybody arrived,

it just wheeled out. And honestly, it came down the hill like an absolute sweet, just perfect.

There was one photo I was seeing in particular and I just went, that looks sketchy.

Oh, what was that one? It was basically just before you got down to the

was this the one of me in the wellies? Yes. So the tank straps were hanging down,

which was fine going forward. And then I was thinking we could just push it in forward and

turned around and the boys were ignoring or reverse it. So it'll lie on or anything and tie

them up. So that's why I was like at a weird angle. But yeah, everything was pretty good.

And the front end was that light. The boys then lifted the chassis legs like a wheel borrow

when it got to the door to get over the lip. And it was in. So we took it that evening and

give it like a sponge bath and I just walked alongside with a brick, like a half brick

to ready to throw onto the wheels. If it started to let go, you were the brakes, basically. Well,

we estimated that an educated guest told me that we could come down the hill with four people

on that car and it would be fine. It wouldn't be it wouldn't be enough to run away on us.

But it was always nice to have that back up there just in case like in fairness,

you had Paddy and Richie on the back in there like two Bill calves. It wasn't going to go anywhere.

Aye. No, it was it wouldn't be fine. So yeah, that was exciting. Did that. And then

we've been fighting for space in the garage and storage space and stuff. And it got some racking.

It was going to buy pallet racking. No, you don't have some there.

I know the stuff you're talking about. I've gone out in the shade.

And Stefan said to me was like, look, I have racking that I built out of.

It's fucking significant. It's a four inch, four inch fence posts, fence posts.

They're a foot tall for two and a half meters long each. And he had two of them.

And they're well, well built. And he said to me was like,

take them. He says they're in my transporter. So he has two transporters, one's going for

the road. And the other one is getting sold. And I said, the one getting sold and he's nowhere

else for it. And I was like, well, it helps you out and gives you somewhere to store them,

put them up here. And if you want them back, let us know and we then buy pallet racking. But

he might need, he said he might need them for 10 years, you know, it just depends what he needs.

So he came round during the week and we assembled those, which was fun because

he was very smart when he stripped it down. He had labeled each one, you know, all the parts

for one of them and not the other. So that was, first one went together, no problem.

It was like a very large tix off puzzle. And I go, you'd love that. It was with no,

no instructions and no box and the phrase and cold. Yeah. So that's ready to go. We need to

put the shelves on it and screw them down and then I can get a ring on to the racking, which I

think will actually gain us a lot of space back, which is nice. What else did it up to you? I've

actually quite a bit now to think about it. The shelving was up. Jack landed round last Friday,

I think it was after work. And he is the beetle, the what's it going to one style? Well, I think

it's actually five, but that's your beetle. And he wanted radio keys. And I was like, I've radio

keys here. So try to take them. I couldn't get it out. I think the keys were worn because he went

and bought the same ones in Hallford's and popped out. And he wanted to fit a sub and amp.

And I'd said to myself, look, come over this weekend, we'll be kicking around. If you want to

do it here, where it's going to be dry and I'm here for advice, if you want, come and do it.

And he says, what do you want to do this afternoon? I was like, ah, fuck it. Why not?

I regretted that. So that's what complicated. I used to fit audio back in the day in Hallford.

I done all my own stuff, subsamps and stuff, run power cables.

Never an issue until I come to his beetle. So we started with the head unit, got it out,

got the RCA cables in, all the wee signal wiring was all good. Went to fit the

power cable from the battery to run it through the firewall. I couldn't even see the firewall.

And then when I come from the inside, I actually took the glove box out and I still couldn't see

the back of the firewall. Drilled deep dash and then beatled. Insanely deep. Yeah. I couldn't get

over it. And like that era of car isn't usually like that. The more modern stuff is. But what I

think what has happened is to get the external silhouette looking from the side of the original

beetle, the front ends quite stumpy. So the engine sort of half sets under the bottom of the wind

screen. So the firewall is way, way in. And then as you say, the dash is so long as well.

And I was like, what in the name of fucking? I was getting, I was getting annoyed. You know,

I was like, what the fuck is going on here? So we ended up, I found a PDF guide and how to do it.

And once we found the guide, it was actually not straightforward, but you knew how to do it.

But you have to take the top of the dash off. So if you put your hand the top of the dash

in the middle, there's like a raised hump and it like is on like a sliding lock.

So you come over, you push it forward or back, but it like clips out.

Then under that, there's two screws and you remove those two screws. And that lets you take the

entire top of the left hand side of the dash off, which is also how you access the ECU and the pollen

filter. So as you can imagine, that pollen filter has not been touched. And the ECU looked like

a fucking Bush Tucker trial. The spiders over it. Yeah. And I said to myself, who were that out?

Just who were that out? Yeah.

So I left them then I had to go and do an interview for one of the articles I was doing

on a phone interview. So I left them to it. No, it didn't. Sorry. I ended up getting the cable

through. And then once it was through, I was like, right, I need to go here. And then when I

came back out here, everything buttoned up, which was nice. So that was good. But fuck me, it was

a disaster. Simple enough when you know how to do it, but also a lot of work in it compared to

like, if that was a Mark IV Golf, which that thing is based on, you'd have been through the fire

one five minutes. It sort of reminds me of the Mad Armstrong videos when he was working on porst

and the Paro fuse. Oh, yeah. It buried and the dash at the front. Yep. The one that explodes and

cuts out. Yeah. The first port he done, he couldn't work it out. And then every post since

it's the first thing I check or you can do. Yeah. So that was good. And then lastly,

I took advantage of the Black Friday sales. Yes, absolutely. And I purchased a 3d printer.

Very good. Which I actually brought the part that I printed to show you and left in the car. So

but I bought a bamboo P1S. So bamboo is like basically the stuff that if you the best way to

describe it is if you don't want 3d printing to be your actual hobby by this, because it works,

where the other stuff, a lot of the cheaper ones, and especially the older stuff years ago,

half the thing you will be doing while you're 3d printing is keeping the thing running, you know,

it's issues and the bamboo stuff sometimes we just kind of plug and play. So I've lot of

learned to do with it and stuff, but like I printed off. I printed off a replacement,

how do you describe it? If you imagine that where the heater dials is on, it's on a 81 CRX. So if

you imagine your heater dial is that whole frame surround, I printed that off as for Terry and

Scotland. So those are notorious for breaking. I had spoke to her about a laptop, and she said,

basically, could you print me this? And I was like, well, I need a file or something for it.

Some guys looking 150 quid for them printed, right? And that's how hard they are to get.

And I printed one, I found a free file and printed it for I printed it in PLA, which is the cheap

filament because I just want to test fit it first. But what I say, it was like three quids

worth of material. And it's the third print I've done. It's the first one I've actually set up

myself, the other two were just preloaded onto the printer. But I played with a few settings

for getting the service finished and stuff. And honestly, like, if it was printed in black,

I would say just fit it and you wouldn't even notice it because the surface finish on it is

incredible. And then I was in the lead last night because we're watching YouTube and they were using

3D printers and lasers and stuff. And I was like, I know this is sort of older technology now,

and it's been in people's households for years, but it's an absolute game changer for people

building cars and older stuff that you can't get. The one thing I would say is some 3D printed

stuff looks fucking terrible. No, like the print lines and stuff. But if I showed you this thing

afterwards that I printed, like if I showed you a photo of it fitted, I would say you struggled

to tell it was 3D printed. It's that good. Just show you how stuff will advance because I remember

early 3D stuff, you sort of went, eh, it'll do the job. That's what I said, Delia was functional

after for me. It was always it works. Yeah. But aesthetically, it looked terrible where I printed

a couple of things from a dad's gun. Like, basically, he's a black powder pistol. And it's for like

loading the loads kind of thing. There's basically we doll rods and stuff like that. And he was trying

to describe it to me. I went online and found the print for it printed it out. And he was like,

you should have kept this for Christmas for me. And I was like, it costs 51 pence. I'm not going

to give you that for Christmas. He was delighted with it. But it'll be interesting to see what I

can do going forward with super nice. I'm sure I'll find many uses for it. But the Josh inspired

our listener, Josh, he was Josh has sent he has talked about like quite a lot of 3D printed stuff.

And yeah, I think he has an X one carbon, which is like the next one up for me. I think there's

maybe it has a built in laser and stuff in as well. And his out of the box can print like

abrasive films or filaments which I I have the upgrade kit for mine to do. But basically,

the one of the filaments I bought is ABS with glass fiber through it, which makes it really strong.

But you can buy loads of different stuff. You can buy TPU, you can print grommets with it, you

know, so I'm actually looking forward to fucking around with it kind of thing. It's good. But it's

weird. It's such a boomer thing to say. But like, I walk in head print and walk out and I walk back

in two hours later and there's a park there that didn't exist. And I'm like, this is weird.

It's like having your own card machine. It is I it's a it's like fucking,

oh God, is it total recall? They can just the food just like appears in the machine.

We need a 3d print pizzas. So the files, are they handy enough found or everywhere files?

No, you'll get their boys selling files, both free. That CRX one was free. Somebody was like,

I don't see why somebody's getting to rip off the community. Here's a free file.

Brilliant. And some of them are good quality. Some of them aren't the that CRX one is actually

incredible. To make them is that it's somebody just 3d scan the object? 3d scanning isn't as

simple as that. It gives you good points, but you still need to like model it. You couldn't

or very rarely trial and error and just yeah. But it's a real good starting point. Or if you

want to if you 3d printed or if you 3d scan an engine bay, it would be enough detail that

you could scan the engine and the bay together and then you could route the exhaust through,

that would be fine. But replicate a party of wee bit more work on it. But after that,

you need like some sort of CAD software like Fusion 360 is a big popular one at the minute for

home hobby type stuff. But any sort of CAD software and then it goes into a thing called a slicer,

which takes the model and basically does what it describes and slices it. So each each layer,

it builds like basically the model up in a layer and then it sends it to the printer and it prints

out each individual layer on top of each other. Very good. It's very interesting. Like it's

it's fascinating. As I say, some of the old cheap ones like beginner stuff that I I've

wanted one what 10 years and I'm glad I never bought one now. If I bought one years ago,

I probably would have upgraded sooner. I'm probably would have learned the basics of when

things go wrong, what to do and kind of thing. But also I just want to print parts, you know, I want

I don't want 3d printing to be my hobby. I wanted to support my hobby. Well, tell me this is the

cup holder mark to you thing. You can put it in a reel. Is that available in file?

That's available. The Josh sent me cup holders for my mark tree that he 3d printed comes out of

the vents. Right. He has sent me cup holders for the TT man knows I like Pepsi Max. He has sent

me a phone holder for the TT he sent me a ball of stuff like yeah, it's very, very good. Josh is

like I mean, I think Josh is actually a design engineer so he'd be like drawing things a lot

more than I would be. But it do you believe a lot of the stuff that he like his files he said

is like stuff from online for free like he's not charging for the such is not making money. That's

great. Somebody else's stuff, especially that world where we sort of operate parts are becoming

unavailable. You can exactly yeah. Clips, brackets, you know, the quality stuff will only get better

as the technology evolves. Yeah, before we go, I definitely have to show you that part like it's

fucking incredible. That's a ring with me. I can stop talking to you after 20 months.

Yes, indeed. We'll start with the budget. Well, I have a wee bit about it too. So I go for it.

You talking about EV? Yeah. Yeah. So this week in the UK was the winter budget

controversial, just because this time last year or the start of the year, the spring budget

that was last year, the chancellor then said, that's it, we're not going to raise any taxes.

But guess what? She lied. It's behind you. The UK government have taken

the stance off of the moves tax it. Yeah. So do you want to crack on with it then?

Connor, what, what sort of nightmare situation we're facing?

Well, basically the first EVs and as an incentive, they didn't,

there was no road tax for them for a long, long time. And I think everybody knew this was always

going to come. Yeah. And it was like, Oh, save the dolphins, save the wheels, buy an EV,

all this bullshit. But you could see them feeding an art of them because all of a sudden

these EV cars, they're very, very heavy. They're damaging the roads,

just be articles every so often. So just a fan. Even though they tell you that your

vehicle excise duty, a tax doesn't go towards the roads. Yeah. So yeah, it's a lot of shit.

But they'll make up anything at the end of the day, they'll still fucking tax you on it anyway.

But basically, the only thing that you won't be saving is money in your pocket anymore,

because they're bringing in tax based on mileage, I believe it is.

3p a mile. I think that's from, is that from 20?

2028 onwards. So what's happening then from this year going forward,

an EV register between 2017 and 2025 will move to a standard rate of 195 pound a year.

Older EVs before that will be 20 pound a year. So I think that's in line with like a lot of the

diesels and things like that, isn't it? And then you fall into like the luxury car tax and things

like that going forward, which I think like 40 grand luxury car tax is a load of shit because

a course is nearly 40 grand now, but it'll be like 620 quid a year. So like for person towards

EVs and things like that, the incentives aren't massively there. They're still probably cheaper

than running a diesel or petrol engine, because when this comes in this plant mileage, it's going

to be 3p a mile for zero emissions cars on one and a half p per mile for high for plug-in hybrids.

So if you're doing 10,000 miles a year, you know, it's still not the price of tax in your R32 or

even probably the superb. Well, that's one of the influencers just turned around and said,

keep driving your M3s. My M3 is 180 quid a year. An EV is going to be five or 600 quid, but that

leaves me thinking they're going to clamp down hard soon. If they're going to bring that in,

they can't have electric cars being dear. So they're just going to absolutely shaft

petrol and diesel cars. So that happened for years. So it's going to do the same again.

It's just mental. Did you see the interview with BBC News and the Chancellor the day after?

No, but I'm sure it was intelligent. He questioned her and he says, how are you

implementing this? And I asked her repeatedly, oh, this is something we're going to bring in

in 2028. And then he started to bring examples of, but new cars don't have an MOT for three years,

because first of all came out and said, oh, at MOT, they'll get the mileage check. And he says,

most people are buying new EV cars. How are they going to check the mileage?

Well, you know, it's not hard to read a milometer. Yes, I know that, but how are they going to

record it? Here's the other thing, right? Is it going to be like your electric meter where the

man comes around and puts three cars through the door and you write on it what it says? Since then,

the Treasury has came out and basically said you'll be requested to attend the MOT centre once a year.

To record the mileage, which means people are going to start buying.

So you can put in an estimated, when you buy the car, new or used, put in an estimated,

so you can estimate, like yourselves, I'm sure you can estimate on your job,

what sort of mileage. So then the next year, you get to record the mileage at the MOT or whatever,

and if you're less, you get credit on your thing. If you're more, you get charged.

That sounds like a shit show. Again, it's like your electric, you get like an estimated,

not anymore, not only smart measures are in, but on the old electric meters.

Another incentive to clock a car. Yeah. Yes, I think somebody's actually came out and talked

about it already. But it's much more difficult now than analog. The sun has come out with an easy

to understand how much it'll cost you diagram. An interesting one is Edinburgh de Bristol,

746 miles, 22.38 to which I reply, your EV car won't get you there.

Have to charge it by three times. So there's 22 quid extra on top of your statutory tax

and your charging. But the thing is, it doesn't matter what you drive, they're going to fuck you

anyway. It's the same every time. The interest in EV cars has left a massive gap in the car tax,

so they have to make it up. It was the same thing with diesels. But the last thing you

thought that would come after a BV car. It was the same thing with diesels. Remember back in the

day, 20 pound tax. They ran that for years and then they went, oh, they're great. They're great.

Everybody's now portioned to get into this 20 pound a year tax bracket. Where are we getting them

away from? No, it's all the shit. Yeah, it's almost like you couldn't have seen it coming.

All our good news from the budget is the scrapping of five luxury car brands for the

mobility screen scheme. I can almost talk. So they have scrapped. This won't do one of two seconds.

I know BMW was one of them. I'm maybe already. Although to be honest with you, it's not a

scheme I'm massively familiar with. I know you can subsidize towards it.

Yeah. So five brands have been axed under the scheme because a lot of people,

shock heart, were taking advantage of it. And she has removed BMW Mercedes-Benz,

Audi Lexus and Alfa Romeo with immediate effect. Mark, Audi, BMW, Alfa, Lexus and Lexus.

Wasn't expected the last two. No, I don't know what they're all about.

They must be whatever stats or people must be getting them on them. But like,

it's not one I would have expected to be jumping out there for.

I think it was basically embarrassing for the government that people were getting paid so much

money and mobility that they get a base rate and they could supplement with their

extra benefits to get a better car. There was a woman on BBC News and she was crying because

they were going to take her Mercedes away. I felt really bad for her.

Yeah. I think they get 77, 75 a week is what you get in your mobility.

To go towards the car. Yeah. So what's that?

150, 300, 301 pound, 302 pounds a month. That's a quarter payment.

payment anyway, you'd certainly upgrade your Vauxhall down, Mark.

And it comes off the back of recent revelations in Northern Ireland on the known show a couple

months ago that 48% of all new car sales in Northern Ireland were mobility cars.

You see, that's the problem. A lot of the dealership networks, the big dealers,

are basing their model on that like Charles Hurst and things.

The mechanic then went to change them, plugged his computer in.

So he then phoned a Hyundai.

You need to buy this £2,000 computer and a £60 a month subscription.

And apparently, just to hurt it in passing, the

change of brake fluid in some modern vehicles now,

But if you're a general mechanic, you're waiting on another Hyundai

after 10 other vehicles, and you're buying a lot of specific tools for different things.

But I think cars and stuff over the last probably 20 years have become that specialist.

And certain types of tools and timing tools and things like that,

you really want to be specialized in one particular brand, I would say.

There's a fella I really enjoy following on TikTok.

I forget the name of his account.

He's probably about 50 odd, big lad, and he has quite a large workshop.

He's very big on TikTok.

And he comes off with, this is the car I work on, this is the problem.

He'd be very good in informing you about common problems in certain vehicles and all.

So there is some stuff that's coming out there, and you're just going, this is mental.

See, I personally don't see a lot of that because I don't drive modern stuff,

and so thankfully I can avoid all that shit.

But the thought of buying a new car and the expense of it,

but also the excitement of your new car and stuff, and then constant issues and problems

and things and wrong and stuff, it's like, I don't like the thought of that.

With car manufacturers just completely under financial,

having a financial nightmare recently with the invasion of Chinese imports,

they're going to try and get every pound out of underpinned garages that come.

Yeah, or cut corners on the actual build of the car,

but then can lead to other issues down the road too.

Because I was listening to, I was in another podcast, I was listening to some marketing

podcast, but they were talking about this guy, I think he was in Canada, who had a,

it was a Toyota Tundra pickup, and he basically crossed a million miles on it.

He had went, Odomara went to 999999, and he was waiting on a crossing over,

and it just stopped, and he was like, what the fuck?

So he brought it into the dealership, and they couldn't believe that he had done this mileage

on it. He was like a sales rep on the road. So it had the original paint, original engine,

original gearbox, it had been serviced, I can't remember many times it had been serviced,

but it was all dealership services, no major component changes, although, you know, you're

usual like, and Toyota were like really fucking excited and they wanted it back,

and they did them a deal where they would be like,

we'll give you a brand new Tundra if you give us that one, and the better big press publicity

thing about it and things like that. And their idea was they wanted to tear it down,

and they're officially, what they said was they wanted to tear it down, and see how it got to

those miles on all the original equipment. And my first initial thought was,

if it has got to those miles, they've,

They want to see how they can make it not do that?

Yes, it has been over, so basically it's been over specced. So if it's got to those miles,

they've spent money where they didn't need to to over spec it because they never expected to get

to that mile. So what do you think a car manufacturer would want to do?

Yeah, they want to be skirting the limits of like,

here you need a brand new vehicle? Yes, but also that extra cost to get it to a million miles is

not needed because they don't give a fuck about that. Yeah, plan up the lessons.

A car manufacturer now won't you change a car every three years?

Yes, which they will design and build things to last twice that.

And then after that, you get your issues. Yeah.

The first one I remember, and this is like small potatoes compared to now, but was,

you go to change your oil, and it's a bolt, like it's, it's a bolt. It's been a bolt for

a hundred years. You screw the bolt out, the oil comes out of the hole.

And then Renault put in like a square headed inverted thing and you needed a special like

square headed key to undo the plug. And some of them are hexes and they can

get your boxes for Volkswagen and things like that. So, and now they can,

now they can do it all on computers. But as you say, you have to buy this

certain computer to do a certain job, not just a square.

Most of them are just sucking the oil in. Sure Volkswagen there for

one of the marks sevens have plastic sumps. That's right. And then they're going,

they're going back to the steel sump again. I'm like, oh, that's interesting.

News, I think we all know about this week was the demise of Ultimate Dubs,

Drug Ultimate Stance.

Yes, I sent that yesterday.

We've got, I used to go to it quite frequently. I did yourself.

And a nice one came out this week that after 31 years and organizing over 100 events,

we have made the decision to take a break from running events.

Yeah, so basically said thank you and goodbye.

Ultimate Dubs was the big English show opener.

It was March time.

March, I want to say a little bit.

Season opener, yeah.

And then mid-March, probably a few weeks before Dubs, yeah.

Ultimate Stance was like kind of their season closer or such because it's probably what

October time.

It's normally October, November.

It's quite late because I always feel weird about shows.

I got like cool nights this weekend and I'm like,

whose car isn't off the road getting work at this time of year?

It's kind of weird.

It was always in the glamorous location of Telford,

which is the northern isle of Craig Avenue.

I tell you, we had some rough, rough nights in Telford.

The very early days of Ultimate Dubs was fantastic.

Yeah, I used to love going.

So we had a...

It was handy enough.

You got the boat over and it was like a two, three-hour drive.

And with two hours drive down, depending where you came in.

Oh, fuck no, we always went whales.

Whales.

I was a right wee, John DeCrosse.

But yeah, like, so for anybody that hasn't been to it or shown at it,

what it used to be was the Telford centre has its own hotel attached.

So you're showing your car, everyone stays in the same hotel, generally.

And in the very early days, they had a big bar downstairs.

And in later years, everyone started going out into the town

and wanted to go to strip clubs and all this shit.

But in the very early days,

everyone used to drink in the one bar attached to the hotel.

And it was a really good way to, like,

meet different people and have a bit of crack.

And oh, you were in that car.

See people who built that car.

Yeah.

And everybody was there for the same thing.

But it was fucking chaos.

Yeah, it was carnage.

It was messy.

There was one night.

But like we used to, like, it was regular.

By about 12 o'clock, the bar was drank dry.

And then everybody just moved to the hall day in next door.

Isn't the hall day and drank in there.

And it'll tell you, like, how much money they were making with drink.

There was one year we brought a carry-out in.

So I brought a bottle of potching and a bottle of vodka for you

and a bottle of Jack Daniels for me.

And we were sitting in the hotel lobby with it on the table.

And mostly like some of our guys were drinking beer and stuff.

Then I was going up and just buying the coax

and then throwing the Jack Daniels and stuff into it.

And we went from hiding it onto the table

to having it on the table.

And they were collecting glasses around it and never questioned it.

Like, because they knew they were going to sell it to drink anyway.

I was rough as fuck those nights.

It was one night as well.

To see a nice hotel.

It was a very nice spot, yeah.

It was too nice for what we were doing.

And then if you walked in the front doors,

you had the reception desk in front of you.

And then behind you to your right was the lift up to the rooms.

And then behind the reception desk to the right was the toilets.

And then out to the left was the whole bar area.

And there was one year, I can't remember which year it was.

We were over and Fluff and Kermi and all those guys were there.

And they had brought, I think Ryan Kerr actually listens to this podcast.

But it had brought Ryan over and he was only like 17.

And I think Kermi knew him through work.

And then he disappeared and we were like, where's your mate, Ryan?

And we found him like lying with his head in the toilet.

Like legs hanging out.

And then the boy got him with ankles and like trailed him

out of the toilets past the reception desk across the hall.

And it wasn't even that late because it was still people checking in the hotel.

And people were like, looking at this guy,

getting trailed across the middle of the foyer.

Put him into the lift and we just sent him up and down the lift

for a bit 20 minutes and people like stepped in.

There was photos of that.

I would say that.

But like honestly, being involved in shows,

it's sad to see that happen because it can happen any show.

And like those are two big shows that you wouldn't.

And I didn't care because it was sat in paint.

So it wasn't like it was going to get scratched or anything.

And it was just stupid shit like that, that you're like.

I should have the fun of the car shows is.

A lot of the English and Scottish crowd that come over for Dub Shed said the same thing.

Even one of the magnetic plates that he pulled off stuck to the side of the power

washing machine, washed the car and then drove off.

And then that must have been the mark five when he had the A4 before and he had one of

the first set of road reforms I ever saw.

And, uh, but he had rubber mats in the back of it.

And he used to tar-slick the rubber mats.

just started buying them to each other?

So a camera which race it was, but a promotional thing with LEGO where they built,

because we watched the actual documentary behind it, where they built these electric

skateboards and then they built these huge LEGO F1 cars on top of them and they put the two drivers

into them, like one behind the other, and they'd do parade laps in us.

But I mean, you put fucking 20 F1 drivers into 10 cars and expect them not to fuck about.

At one point somebody sideswiped somebody and the front,

like the front fucking wing just exploded.

There was LEGO everywhere.
