Just because I like transparency, this is the second time we are recording this episode.
You bait me to it. I was going to drop you in it.
I think let's just be honest with people. Shall we?
Yeah, because we've had some time off. And we didn't hit our flow really.
Did we first time recording this episode? It stopped.
It was stopped. Oh, hones that. Now my mic's falling.
Mate, this is a disaster today. What's happened to you?
Let me have a sip of my caffeinated drink. Sponsored? Gifted.
But I once sponsored some. So you're promoting.
Anyway, we literally recorded this episode about an hour ago and the doorbell rang,
a delivery came, the dog was barking, something went, oh, I don't know.
It's just a disaster. When we got to them, I was like, that was crap.
Someone was trying to nick the duty free. The bloody door was whacking on the thing.
It all went wrong. So we're having another go. If we say things like, as we just said,
like, maybe that we're referencing something we already spoke about,
but we are determined to try and give you a great product. You know,
we don't want to skip any corners, but we're also all about transparency.
Let's cut corners, mate. But all right. So more caffeine.
Provided by Tenzing for free.
Yes. We want to do our best. And so we're having another go.
It's been a while.
Well, it's been a while. We've been off our usual Christmas break.
And about three people have asked when we're coming back.
I think one of them was mum, but like, you know, where's the podcast?
I was like, well, we've got to get back to this.
We're not actually ready to because I'm now going away for two weeks.
So we're going to have another break here.
But we've got to discuss this insane auction that happened in America because,
as we did discuss when we sat down an hour ago.
Yeah. I'm now a millionaire.
No, I am. I am literally a millionaire, which is amazing.
So that's kind of partly why I haven't, we haven't rushed back.
No, because you've got a few quid.
I don't need to. No, I can retire.
I don't think I'm going to ever make a YouTube video again.
This wild auction happened in America from Meekam Auctions,
which saw a challenge to Dali.
Just a reminder, a car that I own.
Sell for $1.8 million.
Where is that auction house in America, by the way?
Is it LA or is it Weasomee in Florida?
Oh, right. They're all over.
Right.
They're like RM Sotheby's or a broad arrow.
Yeah. Meekam Auctions, they have one at Car Week each year.
But Kissamee or Kissamee is in Florida.
And anyway, they saw a whole load of cars,
but mostly this Ferrari collection,
which raised so much money.
Or is that the right thing with an auction raised?
I'd say it raised some eyebrows.
Generated. Yes, raised a eyebrow.
And generated surpises that the whole car world has gone,
what the hell?
Including me when I was like, I charge the car for $1.8 million.
My car was at least $1.2 million.
I immediately put up for sale at that figure.
Haven't received an offer yet.
No.
And that's because I think we can all rationalise
that whilst the figures are,
in saying that people have theoretically paid this money.
Some of us.
They're not really reflective of the market, are they?
No.
You were quick to tell me to calm down.
Yeah. Well, I messaged you, mate.
Straight away.
I literally straight...
You said it was screenshot of a car for sexing.
This is a realistic value.
It was like a 220 grand car.
I do know I was being a joker.
But you wasn't, mate.
I've known you long enough now.
There was a bit inside you
that genuinely did think that your car was worth that money.
No, I've been sort of...
No.
Or you hoped.
There was like a thread of hope.
Oh, well, I put the story up and then a few people were like,
you're not really selling that car, are you?
I was like, for $1.2 million I am.
Yeah.
Do you know how many other charity lives I could buy?
No.
Because let's face it, realistically,
well, the best of the best, Rodalis, tend to go for like
maybe half a mil, $600,000?
Dollars.
Dollars, yeah.
Like the best of the best.
Fine.
Most of the cars are like $300,000.
Yeah.
So if I start my car for $1.2, I think we'd be all right, guys.
So it is just one of the cars that's sold for crazy figures.
And we were talking about it.
Oh, sorry.
Oh, dear.
Choked on my...
Choked on my...
Went down the wrong aisle.
Wait, wait, wait.
Choked on my tensing.
A fantastically, refreshingly caffeinated drink.
I don't know if they want you to say that.
If you chuck in on it.
Still stuck in my throat.
There must have been the user as part of my Raspberry user.
Tell them about the yogurt you ate.
Tell them about the yogurt you ate.
It was about three months at a date.
We had a call with our bank,
because that's the kind of people Tony and I know.
And we were joining onto the Zoom.
And I thought I'd have a little snack before.
And I found a little yogurt pot in the fridge.
And I took one big bite and I thought, well, that's very sour.
What would be sour in this yogurt pot?
And then I noticed what was sour was the fact
that it was out of date for two weeks.
I was like, anyway, moving past my food and...
What's called food and beverage.
I wanted to run through some of these figures,
because they just don't make sense.
And we were like, how has this happened?
We've got a Ferrari Enzo that sold for $17.8 million.
An F50, $12.2 million, a little bit more normal, I suppose.
Two at 8GTO, $8.5 million.
There's a 509GTO for $3.9 million.
A 918 Spyder for $6 million.
And these are all multiples of previous records for these cars.
So not only the above sort of market value,
it's like two, three times their previous record sales.
We do have to give a quick shout out to a friend of the show,
Froyo Khetze, David Lee, who bought that white 250GTO.
$78.5 million, which actually is kind of...
Where it should be.
Where it should be.
You know, of course, we hear about
$2.4GTO is going for $50 million and things like that.
But seemingly, from those in the know...
So he was there.
I think he had a representative there.
Fine.
Sort of who he's there at that.
So he would have bloody acted, bloody give his edible wobble
at some of them.
Because he would have an idea of what they're worth then,
because he owns a lot of them.
He owns a lot of them.
He has the yellow Enzo that we went out in.
Remember, yeah.
So, I mean, he must have been like,
wow, I should sell mine now.
You know, he's like me thinking,
oh, I can retire.
I think he could probably retire anyway.
Yeah, I don't think he's saying the car
makes a difference to it.
I think he's all right.
But yeah, funny enough, I had a funny exchange
with DK Engineering on Instagram,
because I was putting up some provocative Instagram stories.
And they said...
They took the bike, did they?
They were, they took the engines.
But they were like, oh, I think no one's as upset
as the people that sold these cars a week ago.
Yeah, fair.
Because imagine if you sold an Enzo last week for 2 mil
and you're going, oh, my God, why didn't I put it
in the meat auctions?
But who, who's buying these cars?
Because it's not like it's one car that flew.
Okay, let's pretend for a second,
there is Michael Schumacher's personally peed in Enzo
that he signed that had done 12 miles
from the factory gates, the Fiorano test track,
and like, you know, whatever.
Been serviced every year and...
Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
But all of these cars went for crazy money.
And that's not one person.
Like, that's a lot of people bidding
because that's how auctions work, right?
But did one person buy the collection?
No, well, oh, good question.
Ah, see?
Well, no, we know that's not because Ferrari collector
David Lee bought the two for digital.
He didn't buy all the other cars.
Right, okay.
Well, maybe because there was too much money.
Because David Lee paid the right money for his one.
That's what I'm saying.
So maybe the other guy thought, well, I'm literally,
I've got way too much money.
I'm going to re-correct the valuations
of all these cars.
I want all of them.
I literally want all of them.
So I'm going to buy them.
But for them to get to that value,
that to be two guys, I think, or so.
Two people.
Well, theoretically, it's an auction, mate.
Yeah, the second person can be made up.
Oh, could be the auction house.
It could be what we call...
Oh.
Pidding up.
Bob wants to bid.
Sam has seen through glasses on the phone.
1.2 for the children early.
He's still going.
He's still going.
A good point.
The only thing is, if there was just a four DEI,
one person, Tony.
What did I say?
No.
Did you get one?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm being perp.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
I know.
For our three female listeners.
They're out there.
Anyway, we're going to get...
So I'm actually...
I don't feel this way.
I'm already annoyed that I've said that.
Because the shtick I'm going to get in the comments now
for being the DEI representative on this podcast.
But...
You should have just said nothing, mate.
I know, but...
I don't think there's a woman silly enough
to pay all that money for them cars.
I've done this out of it.
Let's go.
Keep going.
Well done.
Thank you.
I was so getting cancelled this year.
Anyway, moving on.
Yes.
Okay.
If it's not the auction house,
my point being, you're right.
It could have been Elon Musk drunk at home
or someone with all the cash being like,
I'm going to take them all.
I did see some talk.
About the fact that there was a charitable element
that because the collection came from this man
who passed away and had a charitable foundation,
people were willing to spend high prices
because it's a tax write-off in the US.
But that was also then slightly undone
by people saying, well, no.
Because actually this collection was bought outright by Mecom
when the man sadly passed away
as if the charitable part had gone out the window.
Which now makes way more sense is, you know,
it's an incentive for their advantage
that the cars go for the money they did
because they have a financial interest in the cars.
Oh, so even more reason as to why-
To bid them up.
Bob would have been bidding so high.
Yeah, yeah.
Or it's money laundering, like you said.
Well, yes.
As I said on social media,
the other possibility is it is money laundering.
But it's very bad money laundering.
Because as I say, it's not like they went,
oh, we'll just bid them up a little bit high
and pay, you know, 500 grand over market value.
They've gone insane.
We're looking here.
This was the ENZO.
So the collection was the Backman Collection.
Was it Philip Backman or Richard Richard Backman?
I can't remember the guy's first name.
But it's not bad money laundering, mate,
really, when you think about it.
Because if it is money laundering,
really, that money's not worth anything
until it's in an asset, essentially.
And one day, their assets will be that money.
And if they don't care about the money, then...
No, because what I mean by it's bad money laundering.
It's got the attention of it.
Oh, I see.
It's unsubtle.
But it's the same as these gangsters
who parade their life on social media.
And then it's like, you know, why would you...
If you were a gangster, why would you publicize it?
So, but they do it, don't they?
It's about a subtle,
was America trying to take Greenland.
Look at us now.
We're a news podcast.
It doesn't give my word.
That wasn't great.
I like that.
I like that.
I didn't say that.
I'm out.
You didn't even have a tensing.
So, look, final figure for the Enzo, 70.875 mil,
which the last most expensive Enzo was a Fernando Alonso car.
Again, so there you go.
That makes sense.
5.4.
And you'd think 5.4, by the way.
You'd think that the real value of that
is inflated by half a million or a million
because of Alonso's name.
Exactly.
Or it's gone the other way and the real value was 10 million
and because it was Alonso, it's 5.
Alonso.
No.
I like that.
Think again.
How annoying is it going to be if he's really competitive this year?
I was just trying to do my math on that
because Enzo was 2005, right?
2005.
Was he?
No, no.
When did the Enzo come out?
2005.
Oh, I thought you meant for the Fernando Alonso.
No, no, no.
Enzo was 2005, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
4.5, yeah.
That was his first F1 World Championship win
when he was at Renault racing against Michael Schumacher at Ferrari for the championship.
Okay, fine.
Well, I should just agree because Ferrari was slow.
But do you want to mean, like, quite a cool story of that
if he sort of went and bought, I don't, I'll go with it.
Yeah?
I quite like that idea.
Okay.
Because Formula One drivers, they often have to hide their car collections until they retire
because contractually they can't be, you know, he couldn't be, as I say, world champion at Renault
up against Ferrari and secretly buying Ferrari roadcars.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They have to hide their collections unless you land on Oris.
Well, yes, or now Fernando because if you see what he did over the winter,
oh, he had that, he bought the CLK GTR and he was driving around Monaco.
And then he bought the Audi Quattro driving around Monaco.
He's got the Valkyrie driving around Monaco.
He's gone mad on cars.
I see.
He's gone mad on cars.
He's driving them everywhere.
Yeah.
Anyway, back to this Backman collection.
Ferrari FFD, formerly owned by Ian Porter.
I'd like to get Ian Porter on this podcast.
Yeah, I think that because we keep talking about it.
We are doing interviews in 2020, 2016.
Yeah, we are.
We are.
Yeah, we have to.
Ian, if you want to listen, please drop some to him.
Talk about how furious you are that your car's up 12.2.
Um, uh, LaFerrariapetta 11 mil nearly twice the price paid for one last year in Monterey.
And significantly more than the last record for 6.7.
I mean, what is going on?
Maybe this is a president, mate.
Maybe this is the year that the world recovers.
Wow.
And we are on the road to earning our millions.
Or is it that the classic car market is just going to become the next major investment class?
We all know when art went insane, like.
And gold.
Well, God's gone crazy recently.
For the roof.
But art 15 years ago, 20 years ago went insane.
The hundred million dollar paintings and things like that.
Maybe cars are about to have that moment.
You're screwed, mate, because you just got shit and new things.
But I don't care, mate.
Um, I'm, I don't, I'm not buying something that I can drive just to look at.
No, I'd rather buy modern classics.
Yeah.
But not four million.
No, but I'm saying that now quickly because the market's about to fly.
Is it?
Well, even at that level, L322 is going to be worth a hundred grand in a minute.
Don't talk to me about that.
We'll go on to that.
Don't talk to me about that.
We'll come back to that.
By the way, while you're talking about auction and old nobbers, I'm going to car auction next week.
I'm going.
Where?
I'm going to Anglia car auctions next week.
It's on next Saturday and Sunday.
Anglia.
Yeah.
How do you spell it?
Oh, I don't know.
Oh, mate.
I don't know how to say that.
Anglia classic auctions.
Yeah, yeah, I'm going.
What's up?
What's up?
Why are you, are you going to buy something?
Well, if something's there that I fancy, yeah.
Saturday, 31st of Jan, Sunday, 1st of February.
Yeah, yeah, I'm going.
View, watch, watch, watch.
I don't want to start your classic car auction.
See if I can pass that, yeah.
Oh, I'm doing this with you right now.
No.
I'm so into this.
Look, 2007 Audi RS4.
I've been looking at this.
It's got wing backs.
Blue car, mate.
Look at this.
I know, I saw it, yeah.
10 to 12 grand.
I literally looked at these the other day.
How do they, it's got wing backs.
It's got wing backs.
It's got proper seats, yeah.
Oh, mate.
Get this.
Yeah, yeah.
Because I think that's good.
I mean, tints and the weird, these are weird.
No, take them off.
Take them off.
How do they perform reliability wise?
No, they're fine.
They're all right?
Yeah, yeah, be a manual car.
Yeah, that's what I mean.
It's the 4.2 V8, right?
Yeah, yeah, great car.
I love these things.
I literally was looking at this the other day.
Oh, I'll buy that for you.
So, buy that, please.
Because I'll go half-half on this collection with you.
Okay, fine.
As long as I don't have to put any money in.
Yeah, yeah.
You aren't invested in it.
That's why I got part of that money.
2014 RS6 is a nice spec.
There's one at Literature Park.
Do you see that down the road in the studio?
I don't want that.
There's one there.
That would suit you.
No, no, no, I don't want that.
Bedford pickup.
Oh, now getting into Bentley's.
No reserve on the Arnaj tee.
No, I don't want that, mate.
No, that's lovely.
You could get that 30, 40 grand, I reckon.
How much?
30 or 40 grand, I think.
No, mate.
I'm not spending 40 or 40 grand on that.
Are you looking at sub 10?
There was a Peugeot 309 GTI there.
But you don't even know what that is.
I don't know.
I mean, I do, but I like...
So, it was the saloon version of the 205 GTI.
Oh, well, hold on a second.
Sorry, I just got distracted.
Yeah?
The saloon version of the 205 GTI.
Did you see that?
Okay, let's come back to that.
If the classic car market really is about to fly.
Yeah.
And those Meekam auction...
Are correct.
Are correct.
Yeah.
We have two cars here that could go through the roof.
Yeah, we're going to find out.
A 1989 Ferrari 328 GTB, 891 miles.
Yeah.
And another barn find.
Yeah.
355, 2,800 miles.
No reserve on either.
Correct.
So, if those cars go for...
Yeah.
Like that 355 arguably should be about 300 grand
based on the Meekam results.
Based on the Meekam results.
No.
Oh, I'm a load of fiat.
Old Cortina there, Mark 1.
Okay, again, now I'm lost.
Where's the Cortina?
Yeah, that Cortina.
No, no, no.
1970, mate.
No, Capri, sorry.
Capri, yeah, I like the Capri.
I like the Capri.
Mark 1.
I'll let this all up your street.
Escort RS Cosworth, Monte Carlo.
Yeah, but I've missed the boat on that.
Because I own one of them.
60 grand.
I remember, you used to have one of the back of the unit.
Yeah, but I've gone with it.
I shouldn't have sold it.
I'm fuming.
Fuming, okay.
This is fun.
Yeah.
Oh, mate.
Stop, look, P100 pickup truck.
That's very cool.
That is absolutely...
1992 Ford P100 turbo diesel pickup.
Useless.
But it is the most coolest thing ever.
I think my...
Imagine using that as a daily.
I think my granny's have one of those on the farm.
Yeah, but you know the exempt that will pay.
I can go into London.
You know what she did?
She did an Aussie ute conversion
and put a 6.2 litre hemi in there.
What, and die?
Mate, it won't stop.
That's cool.
Sierra XR4.
Yeah, yeah.
That's on my list.
That's on your list.
Yo, yeah.
Estimate 8 to 10 grand.
This is fun, mate.
Yeah, look at that transit,
like the Mark 1 transit there.
Or is it a transit?
That one, where are we looking at?
Here, where?
This one, the blue one.
The blue one.
Which one?
Left, left, left, left, left, left.
1994 Transit 100 Mark 3.
Petrol.
I guess.
Love it.
My uncle used to rob banks with him.
I believe it.
Ooh, a nice integral type R.
Yeah.
That's very nice.
It's done 201,000 miles, one owner from New.
I'm going to buy that car.
200,000 miles.
From New, one owner.
That is legendary stuff.
I'll have it.
That is legendary.
Okay, series one E type.
No, I don't want any.
That's on one street, not on your street.
More Jags.
Here you go.
That's type VC.
Oh, mate.
Jags.
Go on.
I've got a prediction.
Tell me.
XJSs are going to go for the roofing value,
anyway.
XJS.
Yeah.
It's a pile of poo now, but it's going to go for the roof.
Yeah, but you know, it's going to be all over that home.
John Kane.
Really?
Yeah, of course.
Oh, yeah, of course.
Shout out, John.
We love you, John.
I've been doing far too long.
But obviously, TWR, with that comeback,
and the incredible work they're doing,
they're probably bought with the XJSs already.
Yeah, it's probably why they've gone for the roof.
They're making XJSs cool, I think.
They've got some nice Landrovery bits.
There's a 700 mile range over there, Petrol one.
It's under 700 miles from there.
They haven't got that yet.
Might have been that blue one.
I like the fact that you've looked at all of these.
Oh, mate, I've been a lot harder.
Old Merck's are nice.
Yeah, look at that old Merck there.
Oh, I thought that was going to be a C43 slim,
but it's just got the nice wheels on it.
No, no, no, I don't want that.
This is so fun.
Yeah. E55.
Yeah.
1999 E55.
I'd be all over that.
Yeah.
Oh, you're going to have a blast.
Mate, I'm literally just going to put my hand up.
I've all died.
Just going to go five, five, five, five, five.
Look at that.
The MGSVX power thing.
Yeah.
I think I saw Andy Bruce, Andy B.
I don't want one of them.
Posting about...
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Sorry.
See that?
309 GTi.
That is cool.
That is really cool.
Imagine that.
Oh, there's got a yellow little fog light.
Imagine that's one of them.
That's really cool.
1.9.
Got red inside.
Please come to a toy on one of those.
This is so great.
Yeah.
And look at the old Porsches as well,
old 9.2 knobbies.
Well, they're not 2.4s.
Oh, what, the 9.4 4s?
Yeah, because the 9.2 has got...
This is a Range Rover as well.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
So, look, that one is really nice.
1993 Range Rover Classic in a great spec.
I'll have it.
And then here's some F3222s.
God, they're going to fly.
Yeah, oh, yeah.
Well, they're estimated four grand
and so unrealistic because they're so popular.
There's some cool Renaults there as well,
by the way, I saw.
Cool Renaults, cool Renaults.
This is great.
When, how often do these happen, these Orchards?
Once every couple of months.
Because there's...
How many parlor ships are in the country?
That's the problem.
They can't go every week.
Side quest for a second.
Here's a 1996 Rover Mini Equinox.
Yeah.
My good friend, good friend of the show,
you've met him.
Yeah.
Killsbuck's Fast on Instagram.
Just bought one of...
He's going to kill me now.
I think 25 original Chonkipa Works Minis.
That's a cool little car.
From the 2000s.
So, the last era before they...
No, 2002.
Yeah, maybe.
2001.
At a push.
Really cool bit of care.
I'm out with my Christmas.
I bet it's green.
No, no.
No?
I don't think so.
It was green.
It might have been green.
I'm out with my Christmas.
How much?
How much was it?
Tell me, mate.
No, no, he wouldn't want me to say.
Mate, there's a Subaru Justi there.
That's a little four-wheel drive thing.
Subaru Justi SL four-wheel drive.
Perfect.
I like the Smart 4.2 Brabis.
No, mate.
Oh, the Hilux.
Look at that.
The Hilux.
And that one.
Yeah.
Oh, I'd be all over that.
U-Less exempt.
I love the fact that you know everything that's U-Less exempt.
Okay, I'm still scanning.
Calibra.
Voxel Calibra, the 16V.
Is that a red top?
Look at the centre.
The centre is great.
Is that a bit like a Toyota Sentry?
No.
It was Voxel's answer to, I think it was a 7-series.
Right.
Definitely 5-series, but definitely, but could have been 7-series.
No, it's the Volvo's.
Oh, look at the 850.
Yeah, 850R.
That's a cool car, isn't it?
That is lovely.
That's a great car.
I've got to come back with something, aren't I?
Oh, what a great spec as well.
Black.
Yeah.
I used to give you crap about black cars, but I'd have that.
But interior is a bit of work.
And the fact, if it's done moon miles, it's almost better.
Oh, man, you've got to come back with something.
Good, isn't it?
And then some bikes.
Yeah, yeah, little bloody 190 things.
Step-step through ones.
Oh, this is so much fun.
Okay, I can't come with you next weekend,
because I'll be on the continent.
But we're going to go to one of these.
Shall we go to one of these this year?
That's a video.
Yeah, yeah, that's a video.
I'm emailing them.
So ugly.
Ganglion's in response for it.
Look at that.
I'm not tensing.
It was any gift it does not add.
Oh, I'm contacting them.
That would be, I would love to do that.
Be cool, would it?
But I'll just literally run around like a new side kid.
Can we not top get this?
Yeah.
Can we not go with, I think there's enough cars here, five grand?
Each.
Or 10.
What do you think is more realistic?
Buy a car and do a road trip.
Like we go there with, I think we'd need 10, I think five.
What, five grand each?
Yeah, yeah, we have to buy a car each.
We each have to buy a car and drive.
And to blah, like whatever it is, we can make it up.
Monaco Grand Prix or to something like that.
Yeah, we can do it.
And top gear it.
Just go to the auction, buy the car and drive it.
And get straight in it and go.
Yeah.
No messing around.
No messing around.
Straight in and go.
Yeah, let's do it.
I'll win.
Because in my head, the math is then we get back and sell it.
But obviously, you might die on the way.
We give it away.
Give it away to a listener.
Okay, well, you're going to have a blast.
And actually, this podcast is now going all over the place,
but I'm here for it.
Okay.
Going all the way back to Meekam.
And the reason we got into this.
Yeah.
So jokes aside about the low car values.
I don't have to try to suddenly aggressively segue this back.
We've gone from 800 quints, four-and-a-half million again.
Because Broad Arrow have an auction next week,
which is what I'm attending.
Because that was the segue.
That's what I was missing.
That's the line I needed.
Well, you're going to an auction.
So am I.
And interestingly.
Before I distracted you for 10 minutes,
because you thought I was going to a proper poohal.
And then you realized, actually, it's quite cool.
Same.
I thought you're going to like a work auction to buy like a 2016 Fiesta.
So I meant to say, you're going to an auction.
So am I.
And interestingly at that auction that I am going to,
or the preview that I'm going to,
because that's an online auction by Broad Arrow,
there's a really interestingly specced Changsha Dali.
And so that will be another way for us to see where the market lies.
Because this is one of the best ones.
The estimate on it is $400,000 to $500,000.
Zero California, the only example that was ever made from the factory in Zero California.
Mid mileage, $30,000 mileage.
But like really nicely specced, we know it's interior.
So I'm going to go and look at that car, not to buy it,
but to go and check it out.
But if you get $1.2 million for your car,
you have to give me half.
Well, no, but my point being, if their estimate is $450,500,
and off the back of literally that Meekam auction,
being last week in that car going for $1.8 million,
that car, okay, $33,000 is a lot.
But that car, compared to the delivery mileage car that went for $1.8 million,
that car should go for $700,000 easily.
Should.
Or $700,000 or $800,000.
If it goes for the under the estimate of $354,000,
then Meekam was just a weird money laundering bizarreness.
Yeah, yeah.
We're going to keep an eye on that.
Yeah, so lots to keep an eye on your auction and my auction.
There's also a really cool Diablo GTR.
I didn't know it was up in that auction.
That's in there as well.
One to $1.2 million.
That's the reserve?
That's the estimate.
Wow.
That's all off the back of thingy in Miami, isn't it?
What?
Well, I've had a mind blank.
Yeah, that have made Diablo GTRs go.
Oh, I don't know.
I know, but it's cool.
I've gone over my head.
Right, moving on.
What are we on to now?
I don't know.
What were we talking about?
This is better than the last one, this one.
This is way better.
We completely solid up the first go.
We really solid up the first go.
We really, really messed that up.
So we've talked about the insanity of Meekam auctions
and the fact that we don't think it's a reflection
of the classic car market in 2026.
Just probably one of those freak, weird auctions.
TBC, though, mate.
TBC, and we'll see.
You're going to be making your moves in the classic car world.
Three of your five grand Mark III transits.
I have three insanely collectible modern sports cars.
Now.
I do.
Well, three don't.
Two, three.
Shall I project eight?
I need another 20 years before they really come good,
but I'm in for the long run.
And actually, that's what we should talk about next.
Because over the winter, it did dawn on me.
Actually, in the build up to our Christmas break,
it dawned on me that as great as those three cars are.
And whilst I've been using the project as a proper daily,
people don't think I do, but I've done 13,000 or that car
has 13,000 miles on the clock now.
So you've done six or 7,000 miles, I think.
Wow.
And it really is my daily.
And I love it and I love using it as a daily,
but it is a bit over the top.
It's annoying in terms of its left hand drive
going in and out of car parts.
Of course.
And it's just a bit stuck in traffic, Christmas shopping,
going in between family and things like that.
Science is a bit crazy.
And the GT3 can't really, it's not practical enough.
And the Stradalea, I'm just not taking it out like that.
Where is that car?
Windrush cars.
Oh, nice.
So I was like, I should probably try and borrow something
from a very generous manufacturer
just to increase comfort and practicality over the winter period.
Just to tide you over.
Yeah.
Yeah, all right.
So I went to the legends at Porsche GB,
because of course this is a Porsche sponsored.
Oh, so I'm not supposed to say no.
This is a Porsche unofficial podcast and said,
look, have you got anything lying around that is practical?
Like, oh, I don't want a 911 or came into a box to ideally,
I want something practical.
Have you got anything?
And they went, we've got a Taycan.
I said, anything else?
Yeah, listen.
So I was like, so I didn't hear you anything.
But no, to be fair, I was like, yeah, it sounds great
because I love the Taycan.
I was just like, I'm just a bit nervous
because I'm really not set up to have an EV.
The charges at home,
which were put in by the developer of the property,
never really work.
I don't even know.
You don't have an EV?
Yeah, yeah.
Where are they?
Well, and the studio don't have a charger.
Yeah, yeah.
And I don't, I haven't lived with an EV enough
to really know which public charges to use.
And I'm not good in that.
I don't have that rhythm of like, just, you know,
charge before you go.
You're not organised enough, mate.
I'm not organised enough.
No.
So I was like.
You're all over the place.
I just worry that I'm going to have a bad experience
from the charging point of view.
But screw it.
I like the car.
Let's go.
When I picked it up, initially it was like,
yeah, it looks great.
I just like the Taycan.
It's all very comfortable.
Looks great.
Is it charged?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
That's what I was going for.
And well, I mean, let's just skip ahead.
Largely, very positive experience.
The car is great.
Yeah.
But I don't think we've ever disputed that.
I still struggled to have an evious part of my lifestyle.
I did 1,000 miles.
Wow.
Over the two week Christmas period.
We've done well.
I had that loan.
Yeah.
So and sporadic miles, right?
That's not like every day I was doing 100 miles.
Like I would do like 250 miles one day and then 10 the next.
How many times should you charge it?
1,000 miles.
Many times.
I would say eight or nine times.
I'll ask you another question.
How much did it cost you in?
Oh, a lot because I was using public charges.
So it's minimum 50 quid a go and that's 20 to 80 percent.
I did get better at doing like, oh, I'll just charge for a quick 20 minutes
and get 50 miles and keep going.
But that meant I was constantly charging because I was doing lots of miles.
Even if I set off for my journey or my adventure or whatever I was doing
with 80 or 90 percent charge from home in a vertical bus,
I was always going to have to charge again at some point
because on about 80 or 90 percent,
I was getting 220, 230 miles max.
Okay.
And that is better than the that is better than the old model though,
because I remember this time about two or three years ago,
I had exactly the same car.
Okay.
And I was doing max 160, 170 on a charge.
Full charge.
Yeah.
Okay.
So yes.
And I think that's about right.
So it's got better.
Yeah.
And they were quite accurate.
If it said 210 miles, I did 250 or something like that.
So that was okay.
But I just felt like I was charging all the time.
All the time.
It felt like I was driving around in a V12 Italian supercar.
The amount of times I was having to refuel it.
But obviously just and again,
charging time from a 20 to 80 percent,
most 150 kilowatt charges that were giving me 90 to 110 kilowatts,
that meant about 40 minutes for a charge realistically.
So yeah, for my lifestyle doesn't really fit,
which is annoying because...
You wanted it to.
Yes.
I sort of, because I enjoyed having a car that was comfortable and quiet
and just user friendly.
And I claimed spacious.
Everyone gave me a hard time for saying that car was spacious.
It is spacious in my opinion.
I thought it was spacious.
It was like, no.
Have you sat in the back?
I was like, no, because I was driving it.
I'm driving it.
It's a four door stack car.
Like for me and my lifestyle,
it was very spacious and very practical,
like really usable and everyone was like, no, I'm so not spacious.
To me, it's got more room inside than the J.
Yeah.
That's a good comparison.
Yeah, definitely.
And the J's got loads of room.
It's got loads more space.
And like anyways, I'm not going to get caught up in that.
For me, from my experience, it was fun.
I wanted it because I suddenly went,
it's nice having just a normal car.
Just a car.
That's not a normal car.
It's like 130 grand Porsche.
But yes, a sort of uncomfortable, quiet.
In the context of what you own, it is normal.
Yes.
And I kind of hoped that I was going to enjoy this experience
so that I could go and get,
you know, one of those leases you see on TV that,
you know, 200 pounds a month
and you can get a Renault 5 on your driveway.
You know, like, I'll tell you what,
I'll tell you what our good news at the moment.
Bloody i5 BMWs, they're bloody for nothing.
Really?
Like 400 quid a month.
It's quite nothing.
But yeah, okay, fine.
For the car, yes.
But it is for nothing, mate.
A bloody hatchback is £400 a month now.
I did love that i5 when I had it, to be fair.
Yeah.
Okay.
Does that do a better range than Taycan?
On that i5 over Taycan.
So I call it a Taycan.
So I did panic when you said Taycan.
I was not the kind on my bathroom, it had no sense.
You thought it was different.
I was like, the caffeine's where I go.
But it is Taycan.
I think it's Taycan.
T-A-Y-C-A-N.
Porsche Taycan.
Okay.
I think it's Taycan.
I think it's Taycan.
I drank plenty of Kool-Aid, way more than they, so you should know.
Maybe.
But I preferred the i5 to the Taycan.
I would buy the i5 over the Taycan person.
Yeah.
But yeah, I was hoping I could go and...
But I proved to myself still that for me, an EV doesn't work.
Especially if I was going to go and get a little hatchback EV.
That's even worse.
Well, you could do less range.
I would end up still having to rely on my combustion engine vehicles
for my lifestyle.
All I'd be using that for is the nursery run or going to the supermarket.
At which point, what am I doing with my life?
So, what I worked out is actually, if I'm going to go and do that either,
I need to go to your car auction and buy myself an L32...
Sorry.
L32 2 Range Rover like the rest of the social media world.
Or just lease like a little A3 or not even an A3.
Yeah, yeah.
Just riles, you know something.
Cooper, what a car.
Great cars, right?
You could get a bloody hybrid FR Cooper.
FR Cooper?
Yeah, yeah.
What's an FR Cooper?
It's like the bloody GTI version of the Golf.
No, the VZ.
Oh, that one.
They've changed it all now.
Oh, fine.
I'm thinking like a Leon.
Yeah, Cooper Leon.
But don't they all do it all V and VZ?
V123, VZ123.
Maybe brand new.
But we're thinking about different cars, I think.
Because I'm thinking about a Leon FR thing.
Ah, OK, fine.
Like a Golf.
Yeah, yeah, sure, sure, sure, sure.
I know what you're thinking of.
You're thinking of the Cooper thing.
That's a good car, though.
Yeah, that's what I mean.
No, because for me, anyway, this is boring because it's all about me.
But isn't that what this podcast is about?
To lean into the trolls.
Here he goes again, talking about what cars he's going to buy.
He's not bored of any posh twat all the time.
Just keep talking.
Oh, he just keeps talking.
He's talking about the cars he's going to buy.
Sorry.
He never buys any of them.
So true.
Oh, God damn it.
Anyway, boring story.
So my Taycan experience.
Love the Taycan still doesn't fit my lifestyle,
which is a shame because I love the Taycan.
I would like to have one,
especially when you look at the value of those used cross-trees.
When you give $40,000, $50,000 for a Taycan,
I'm like, yeah, great car.
But anyway, that was for me.
Flipping it away from me for a second to see the trolls.
Really good agreement.
Can you let me have a go now?
Yes, please.
Tell me about the car that you did buy
and take to Austria, the Range Rover.
Yeah, had a great experience.
Yeah, had a pretty great experience.
It's done 1,500, no more than that.
Nearly 2,000 miles in it.
Only done three tanks of fuel as well, by the way.
That is a joke.
Yeah.
Well, there you go for the whole EV versus combustion engine.
Literally, car was completely loaded with luggage,
skis, snowboard, five people.
Wow.
Complete comfort down the auto barns at 120 mile an hour,
genuinely.
And I'd done a tank and a half there and a tank and a half back.
And that included being in Austria
and doing all the running around, picking all the...
Unbelievable.
That is great.
Yeah.
And complete silence and comfort.
Yeah.
I think you underestimate how refined that experience is.
Yeah.
Oh, wait.
So, Hans, that car's obviously got air suspension as well, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, the Taycan I had had the new active ride,
which is Porsche's latest attempt at this super fancy,
overly complicated air suspension where,
you know, you see pictures of the cars sort of dancing.
Mm-hmm.
I think the Myback GLS had it first.
Anyway.
Yeah, yeah.
The Panamera when they launched it.
I weirdly, I found it quite...
Because I come out of the Project A.
Yeah.
It felt quite synthetic to me.
Like, I felt it...
I almost felt like the car constantly modulating itself,
like balancing on the road.
It felt like I was on this kind of weird floaty magic carpet.
At the beginning, I didn't really like it,
but you just got used to it.
Sort of?
Yeah, but like, you say that, mate,
but when I think about an experience
of driving a seven series or an S-Class,
they do that as well.
But I had that S-Class the other day, that unbelievable S63 AMG.
I just thought it was unbelievably comfortable and quiet.
Yeah, but it's probably just...
Maybe it's just because of, you know,
it's not so low to the ground and it's not as sporty
that you don't notice it as much.
But that will be doing...
That will be modular.
The Range Rover will be doing it as well.
But I didn't...
I didn't notice it.
You don't notice it.
No, no.
It's so good that car.
The only thing you notice about the Range Rover,
when they're loaded up and you're full up,
is when you come to stop the bloody thing.
Because it doesn't stop it.
And it does not go around corners.
Of course.
Like, genuinely, like, I went round a corner,
not fast, but forever.
And literally, I thought the bloody thing was going to tip.
Really?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because, like, obviously, when you're in a 911,
1,400 kilos or whatever, you pile in.
Because obviously, the way in...
I love the thought of your family's family.
They're all like, all I can see is three heads in the back.
Well, because you know, you've got them nice roads,
you went to the LMC, you've got them nice roads going in.
And automatically, when I see them roads,
I think I'm in a Porsche.
So I'm piling around in a bloody...
And then I went round the first corner and...
What, why it just sort of rolls?
Yeah.
But he's, like, terrifying when it's three-odd tons worth of car.
Anything negative?
No.
No.
It was absolutely per...
I could not have picked...
For what I'd done, I couldn't have picked a better car.
It was absolutely special.
When you're right at the head, they say, oh, hello, sir.
Literally, sir.
Welcome.
At soft-closed doors as well.
Don't slam the door.
There's no need, just touch it and show yourself.
Yeah, would you mind parking it for me, please?
Thank you.
Unbelievable scenes.
You're not going to keep that.
You're still going to...
No, it's the winter.
It's for sale.
Yeah, I mean, I'll sell it tomorrow.
But why it's for sale, I'll use it in case of mild off-turbo.
Yeah, good point.
The part turbo up now.
Well, we're going to be adding miles on the cars
because, of course, we have now re-announced,
not re-announced, promoted the tours.
We've got a free edition.
Yeah, we did, like, a soft launch in the last year.
We went and did a real couple of days ago,
promoting the two big tours that we're doing,
one in June and one in September.
And we were talking earlier offline
about what cars we're going to be using personally.
Yeah.
And suddenly realized that between those three events,
because we do have another smaller tour as well,
and the fact that we're doing a promotional thing,
and we've got to go and investigate a tour for 2027,
we are going to be racking up miles on our cars, aren't we?
We need to.
We need to.
We really, like, genuinely, it's not your problem,
but we need to really split the miles.
Yeah.
I've already put in my head that I will do two in the GC3
and two in the turbo.
Because if I do it all in the turbo,
because the turbo is the tour car,
if I do it all in the turbo,
the turbo are bloody more miles than your GC3.
Well, which is now, or is literally about to tomorrow,
take over 20,000 miles.
I'm embarking tomorrow on a celebratory three years of ownership,
20,000 mile road trip.
What car?
Well, you say what a car.
There we go.
We had a fight, because when we went to film that reel,
we were all finished.
We were back out, and I think you said the same thing,
like, what a car.
I said, yeah, it is, but has been the most unreliable car I've owned.
And you?
I kicked off.
You lost your bar, didn't you?
Well, I think I was having a bit of a nostalgia moment,
because probably the first time we had both of our cars together
for easily a year.
Good point.
Easily.
Yeah, both GC3s.
Both GC3s, yeah, for sure.
And I just like it when they're together, you know,
like, they're just, I just think they're great.
And you?
I'm going to stop you for a second.
Yeah?
When I was going through all the footage,
certainly they put together like a slightly sort of,
can I say this?
I might believe it.
Yeah, you can say it.
Homer erotic.
Is that right?
So, I don't know if that's, anyway.
Oh, I don't think you can put that.
People get the gist of like,
when you and your best friend buy the same car.
You know, like, three years later, you know,
because it's actually quite mad if you think about it.
Yeah, yeah.
And I found the shot of us at the top of the gross Glockner,
and then three years later, there we were at the cafe.
I was quite nice little, and then I was like,
say that for another day.
Well, you know, remember the reel we did last year,
doing all the coffee.
We got a lot of abuse from our friends.
Yeah, we thought we was a couple of...
But you can say that because that's fine.
No, no, no, no, no.
We had to hold hands once and everything.
Remember?
It's all for the gram.
But it's fine.
This is the year we get cancelled.
Canceled?
This is her car.
I honestly think we're in trouble right now.
So, we'll debate whether I leave that in or not.
Okay, right.
Um, there's this bleep.
I think you can just say that people assumed we were a couple.
Fine.
Partners.
Partners, I guess.
Life partners.
Oh, God.
Yes, sometimes we go and sometimes I say,
this is Sam, my partner,
and he goes, no, no, business partner.
One room.
Two rooms.
Yes, please.
We're serving costs.
Anyway, yeah.
Because it is true, weird.
And you got very offended by it and very defensive by it.
Did you?
And we just had a big argument.
When we did the first one,
let's not repeat ourselves too much.
We haven't got the energy for it.
But it is interesting that whilst that car...
And I had three years, 20,000 miles,
and this is all going to come in the main channel video,
so I'm not going to ruin it too much.
It has weirdly been quite unreliable.
You know, obviously once catastrophically,
but just along the way, little faults.
And we're such a...
We're such Porsche fanatics,
and we give out the manufacturers such a hard time
for their reliability record.
And I don't think it's spoken about enough.
And I go, fine, your car is theoretically faultless,
even though you've had a leaking damper
and you've had a wheel bearing issue
and you had the same glass recall that I did.
You know, your car's not free of issues,
but in your head, it totally is.
I think it's as important that we...
Would you say that my car's had a harder life than your car?
Right.
And fundamentally...
You lived at the Nürburgring.
And other tracks, but fund...
Fund...
Fund...
Not sponsored.
Not that I'm very fast or anything.
No, but...
But like, when you put that into context,
I've really, like, the couple of issues
that I've actually had have been serviceable issues.
Wear and tear.
Wear and tear issues.
Yeah, okay, I guess.
Like, it hasn't full-on pooed itself or anything like that.
Like my car?
And my car weirdly was a mechanical...
Your car hasn't made...
My name...
Generally, mine was basically like a loose bolt, wasn't it?
Yeah, yeah.
It's not like it had a coolant leak or...
Do you know what I mean?
Like, it...
Yeah, yeah, just...
It's just a mechanical failure.
It happens on any car.
It's just...
It's literally just one of them things.
Like, they are mass produced, by the way.
You know, like...
And like I said, I'm going to repeat this,
because I thought it was quite good,
is that someone at Porsche doesn't like you, mate.
You've fabled, you've wound...
You've upset someone.
It's the same person who slipped me the information
about the Taycan and the mechanical combustion engines.
Well, he must like you quite much.
You was right.
Yeah, but apart from that, like, it's had...
It has had a hard life, like, you have to admit.
And let's put it on its head, right?
The life that that car's had,
let's be a bit more sensible and serious,
the life that that car's had,
would a Ferrari or a McLaren have suffered
the same punishment that that car would have?
It...
Well, a modern Ferrari, for sure.
Well, I wouldn't have done 20,000...
Yeah, I wouldn't have done 20,000 miles.
But it would have put itself...
It would have gone back.
I would have sold it off the fires,
because it's been...
Do you know what I mean?
Do you know what I mean?
I lost 100 grand.
Yeah, do you know what I mean?
Like, in all seriousness, like...
And at that time, I was looking at a 488, wasn't I?
I was not looking at a 488 at that time.
That probably would have been all right.
It would have been all right.
Mind you, one of the guys that come on our trip,
he couldn't come last year,
because the car pood itself.
The 488.
Yeah, of course.
Yeah, he wanted to come.
He's coming on to this year.
Yeah, it's good to know that.
Make up for it, bless him.
Yeah, we've got a lot of rugby customers so far this year.
As ever, on the Road.Tours,
if you want to go and check out those,
we are the first towards...
Oh, I'm kind of a new...
We've still got some space.
Some space, but we're close.
Yeah, and then June Tour again,
getting close to being done.
September still got some good availability,
but yeah, crack on and check those out.
We're getting there.
But mate, it's been all right.
That car.
Yeah, well, again, I'm going to do a full run down.
I think you should.
I'm going to give an overview of all the cars,
expand, I think I'm going to do a full overview of that car.
I've got to feel the best about it.
Just when you do it,
make sure that I'm not around,
because I will bite,
because you'll say some horrible things
and I'm not having it.
Fair enough.
Are you going to that auction alone, by the way,
as the thingy?
Oh, I want to take one of my friends,
because in case I buy some, I've got to drive it back.
Well, if you do,
could you ask them to film some clips on the phone?
Please.
Literally, like, horizontal, all vertical.
I don't mind, because I think the next time we sit down,
we'll be posting that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because we are back this week,
but we're starting off the year
at a slightly irregular pace.
We're not going to be with you every week.
Just a warning, don't...
We're busy behind the scenes as boys and girls.
Our favourite influencer line.
But genuinely, we've got a few bits going on.
I'm going on a couple of trips.
We're just going to kind of ramp ourselves back up,
so it might be slightly irregular uploads.
But yeah, so I think the next time we sit down,
we'll be able to talk about that auction.
And your auction.
Yeah, and my couple of trips as well.
So try and get some clips,
even if you go by yourself,
just on your phone.
All right.
Do something.
Just audio.
I just want to hear some of the action.
And then maybe we can do an episode
in the back of whatever...
More of a buy something.
Yeah, yeah.
But it all depends.
I mean, I'm not a silly man.
You know, I run a dealership.
Like, if they even cars go for like mega money,
I'm not buying them.
But I am going to put my hand up.
Yeah, please.
I will, yeah.
I'm going to take my Canada goose coat,
keep myself warm,
with the old fur around the thing.
And I'll go outside.
Well, it's a bloody auction hall.
It'll be freezing.
Oh, OK.
They don't heat them.
No!
I get afraid different auctions to you.
You should come to OM South Abyssal,
brawl down there.
I tell you, the meeker auction was definitely heated.
They weren't starting around in the cold.
Anyway.
OK, well, that wraps us up for this week.
We will be back with the other say,
post all of this exciting adventures.
I'm glad we recorded that,
because if I put on that fur, I'll take that off.
Yeah, that was better, yeah.
We will see you soon.
Thanks very much everyone.
Bye-bye.
See you.
