But, dude, getting back behind the wheel of this, this week, I am obsessed with this thing.

But I've got a problem with this car.

I'm just giving them the price, by the way.

The problem I have with this car, the best place to be in this car, is not in the driver's seat.

I don't want to drive it.

It's bloody two and a half tonne.

It's got a great big wacky-

It's got nearly 800 horsepower.

And a thousand pound foot of torque.

I literally don't care.

I just want to sit here nicely and let Gives drive the car.

Mate, it's so nice to drive.

It's super relaxing.

Yeah.

It's got too much performance.

Like overtaking this car, overtaking in this car, is a joke.

You sneeze and you've gone past four trucks.

But you're not more comfortable in the driver's seat than what I am now.

I've got amazing massage seat functions.

I bet I've got them here.

I'm sure you do, but that's what I mean.

I'm as comfortable in the front and I'm driving.

I like driving.

Yeah, but I like driving, but not this.

No, I think you would.

No, no, no, but I like it because I haven't driven one for a while.

But after a while, I go, oh, actually, I'd rather be in the back.

And everybody's going to agree with me because I'm never wrong.

As you like to point out.

But then just get the 580E or something like that.

I was with Chris the other week at the Turbo S launch,

which we were going to touch on in this episode.

He said, the best thing about Tony is just as you're getting riled up,

just as you're ready.

He just completely stumps you because he's just like, yep.

And I'm like, hmm.

And he said, I think that would happen.

Like I would be there ready to have a go.

Going on, mate.

And then he goes, yeah, you're right there.

Yes.

And you're like, oh, how annoying.

I was just going, oh, fine.

I just really rolled you up.

That's what I do, mate.

I just reel you in, rally you up.

You get to the point where you're just about to come.

I'm going to go, well, actually, yeah, you got pie.

So I, well, I employ you to drive this at some point.

It is amazing.

It is 200,000 pounds.

What?

Yeah.

I think it starts at 186.

But can I say something to you, though?

A really high spec, lairy range over long wheelbase one.

Be very close to that as well.

Yes.

And it's probably 100 grand less than a Bentley flying spur,

Rolls Royce Ghost.

And we're at the loco.

This is not the my back.

This is the performance version.

This is the S63 e-performance from AMG.

So there are some luxurious touches which aren't here.

For example, I do actually have a foot rest on my side.

Yeah.

But you don't have one on your side.

No.

So if we were in a my back, there would be more plushness.

I think.

But this is, I mean, there's TVs in the back here.

Yeah.

But there's a lot of plushness.

But this Pacific car is specific.

What's happening to you, mate?

It's changed over.

I only had one coffee this morning.

But yeah.

So the pollen trying to make is like, I think this sits in an

interesting place.

You're right.

It's probably alongside a range over price wise.

It's different performance.

I don't know.

I'm just obsessed with this thing.

And it got me thinking that we have given up on these

executive solutions.

They now are just in the hands of chauffeurs and Ubers.

And they've always been.

Do you think so?

Yeah.

Always.

But when I was growing up, this was the top level.

This was the big dog.

You know, you have an S class of seven series.

That was the luxury and two SUVs took over.

Exactly.

Yeah.

But this in the last 15 years, this is literally for chauffeurs

or really wealthy people that are going to be driven around.

Yes.

You want to.

So Alan's sugar or Simon Cowell or this is literally what

these cars are for.

This one is for the automobile, isn't it?

Yeah.

And we have to remember that sometimes that a lot of these

big cars come over and they're not actually for our small island.

Good point.

They're for bloody like these big German cars, the M5 and the

new M5 and these big.

They are literally turbo S.

They're literally for bloody autobahn.

So you can get across Germany in two hours.

Yes.

It's sort of market specific, but it ends up here somehow.

I don't know how many of these are sold.

I mean, S classes and yeah, I don't think they're particularly popular.

And the only which is interesting is whilst that might be the case and

whilst yes, people are buying SUVs, not these sort of limousines, let's call them.

In harmony, the value of this S class, I don't know if it holds well,

but they are expensive as what I mean to say.

So this car, as I say, starts 186.

I had to look online.

There are a few knocking around for 135, 250.

So they've taken a big whack, right?

They've taken a 50 ground.

But that is still quite an expensive car and even just a bog standard S

class of this new shape or new era, they're still 80, 85, 90 grand.

They're not, they don't plummet.

Like I was kind of thinking, oh, great.

I get like a high mileage like S.

Let's bomb around an S class.

Like what a nice place.

I thought maybe there'd be 40 grand by now.

No.

So they do for a two year old one.

Yeah, two or three year old one.

Not for two, but you would get a bloody six or seven year old one for 40 grand.

Yes.

I think that's that.

And so that was my disparity.

I was like, okay, I could get the old shape really cheap.

But it takes a while.

When do they just suddenly plummet?

Is it generationally?

Like when the next one comes out, will these plummet suddenly?

No, so they always like any car.

They always have their biggest fall the first three years.

And then they'll have another fall when the new one comes out.

And then they find their feet, which is probably and something like this

is a bit later than most other cars.

Because it's just the desirability of a mate.

I mean, who wants one as a used car?

There's a very small market of people that buy them.

And they've got so much money, they buy the new one.

But they care about an eight year old one.

It's such a shame because what a fantastic automobile.

I mean, visually, it's quite out there.

Lots of chrome going on and very bling bling.

But I kind of enjoy that.

But in here, we've got so much space.

Interestingly, because it's the e-performance,

i.e. the hybrid boot, not fantastic.

Because it's not an SUV, you really,

you are limited on boot space, that is for sure.

But I'd say drivability, the part like,

everything about it, it's just fantastic.

And we've been questioning what Mercedes are doing at the moment.

But I think at this level, they are still smashing it.

But yeah, because don't forget, mate,

like this car is made for around the world.

And just because we don't buy many,

I mean, there'll be millions of these in China

and the Middle East and stuff like that.

And in Germany, they'll sell a few as well.

America, they'll sell loads.

You know, just because we don't buy them here,

they obviously sell loads of them worldwide.

Because it won't make them anymore.

Yes, fair enough.

I mean, I do think globally, people have moved away

from saloons into SUVs and crossovers and things like that.

That's in general, though.

Yeah, that's what I mean globally.

Even, yeah, A6, A4, less free series,

because people still buy a lot of them normally.

But yeah, in Europe, actually, but this country specifically,

it's all SUVs now.

Yeah, yeah, you're right.

But anyway, well, don't sleep on the S-class essentially.

I think I'm going to be making a video tomorrow.

If I sleep in it.

Yeah, or it'll be very easy to sleep in it, my God.

It's the lovely cushions we've got behind us.

Did you do a test once where you slept in a car for 24 hours?

Rolls-Royce Ghost, living in a Rolls-Royce Ghost for 24 hours.

Was it in a car for 24 hours?

It was one of those, was it in a car?

It was, I did 24 hours at the UK's biggest petrol station.

And then I did...

And then I did Chasing the Sun or, you know,

that Top Gear style race from, was it Glasgow or Edinburgh

to London overnight?

So we set off at sunset and arrived before sunrise.

That was fun.

Can you imagine if we had to do a test of sleeping in the car

for 24 hours, just you and I?

Just literally boxed in the car with you

since you did 24 hours.

No, but this would be nice,

because you've got headphones here as well.

Anyway, let's move on from this colour,

The Turbo S launch, where I saw Chris Harris, Matt Farah.

There was a whole gang of us.

Like, we actually ended up on a really-

Mate, I actually had the best time,

because it was like the greatest rotation.

Yeah, nice.

A load of guys.

It was US and UK, predominantly.

Right.

And like, sort of YouTubers.

So there was just like a load of us and Tom walking forward,

like, just a fucking good gang.

And all like the proper ones as well.

Why didn't they?

Not like the rat bag ones, you know?

Not like the guitar.

I'll let you say that.

But it was just a very nice environment,

and the dinner before, and it was fun,

and great for sort of chatting, catch up,

and then have a day with, yeah, new Turbo S.

So my video on this is coming,

all the other videos have gone out.

I think my video is coming next weekend.

I watched them.

I watched you cut them.

What did Chris say?

He was very nice about it.

And there were no ifs or buts or whens.

I think he was very nice.

And to be fair, like, why would you not be nice

about a new Turbo S?

It's very hard for me to comment,

because I've not driven or been in it yet.

And as a current owner of the previous car,

I would like to see, I mean, from what Chris was saying,

he said it's much better than the old car.

So we'll see.

Well, you know, like I said, repulsion,

I've always said it.

They always make incremental changes.

They do make them better.

But when between dot one and dot two,

in my experience of all the ones that I've owned,

they're always, they are better,

but they're like incremental, like 10 or 20 percent better.

So I said, and not giving away too much of my video,

I actually think this is the biggest step,

especially for a dot one to dot two that we've seen.

Chris said that.

It feels generationally.

It feels like a whole new 11.

And the reason being it's a whole new engine.

Yeah, fine.

It's a, it literally.

Jude or dude.

I don't know what I said.

You said Jude.

Well, I mean, yes, you're Jude.

It is, I mean, literally the only parts

they carried over with the six injectors.

Like it's an entirely new engine.

But are you sure coming away from it,

you all haven't just drunk the Kool-Aid

and listened to it all and thought, oh yeah,

because they've said to you,

they've convinced you that it is hugely better.

No, no, that's not going to happen.

But actually if you drive them both back to back,

that would be the best because in my opinion,

all of you lot that went to that event,

you all know what you're talking about, right?

So you have to listen.

But if you drive them, because people forget mate.

Of course, of course.

If you drive them both back to back,

then that's when you see the real difference.

But obviously I, we did the,

took that turbo S 50th to Luxembourg a few months ago.

Loved it.

Just spent a month, a week chasing you around Portugal in the,

because so I felt like I had quite a good reference point.

Last year with SwissCroat back in Europe,

I did that filming with a turbo S up in Scotland in the snow.

Like it's not like I hadn't driven a turbo S

since the launch of the 90.1 five years ago.

And it's not drinking the Kool-Aid when it is an entirely new engine.

And I'm not saying that as a, because it's better.

I'm just saying that is a massive shift.

It's not, it's not every dot one to dot two

that they make an entirely new engine.

It's absolutely not.

Yeah. And I wasn't saying you did all drink the Kool-Aid.

I was asking a question.

Have you drunk the Kool-Aid?

Yes. They tried to make us.

There was a hilarious presentation where we all caught each other's eyes

where they're like, um, is a new job as a,

and then it was like Orlando Bloom says, what a car.

And we were like, is he not an actor?

Yeah. We were like, cool story, bro.

Yeah. And then it was like, then it was like, like,

I can't even remember who they asked that.

They had like a golfer.

I love the turbo S. We were like, yeah.

Cool story, bro.

But even like what I loved was, um,

with the actual series quotes that you'd pay attention to,

um, like, you know, bug, myster, or, or like,

the turbo S is always very fast.

Yeah.

It's only the guys that they've paid who are like, oh,

I just love the ever fest and flow.

Yeah. Yeah.

The car is the thing for me.

So I went and drove the road that we did at the start of the year

during the on the road driving tour in Spain.

Yes.

So I literally went back to the exact same road.

Nice.

Because I thought, I know it.

And also I've got a weird reference point in the GT3.

Now that is a very unfair reference point.

They're completely different cars.

But it helped me realize the weight because it's 150 kilos heavier than your car.

That is significant.

Yes, huge.

And, and that's almost you and I.

Well, it definitely like on a good day.

Not, not, not definitely.

Because I'm about 90 kilos.

You're not 60.

So you're probably not far off.

On a good day.

If we didn't need for six weeks.

Or do we walk briskly up a hill?

But yeah, so, so that was like straight away noticeable.

For me, the thing that stood out comparatively to your car

wasn't necessarily handling and chassis.

No.

Power is made.

It's immediately noticeable that it's insane.

Like it is, it is ballistic performance.

Hype 918, hype like beyond that ballistic.

Because of the instant, I would imagine.

Because the problem with my car, unless you're like a two and a half,

three thousand res where you're about to sprawl the turbos,

there is a, there is a huge turbo lag on my car.

So that's eradicated.

It's eradicated.

Which probably only is it like quicker spool up and lack of turbo lag.

Yeah.

It's, it's instant insane performance.

Yeah.

And I really felt a similar feeling in my body

to the Artura Spyder launch that I went on.

Because it is also, it's, it's so instant extreme acceleration,

visceral, hardcore braking, turning fairly flat on a public road.

I genuinely felt like it was too fast in the coupe.

I was like, this is just because you,

because the acceleration is so addictive.

And you want to get into that performance,

you come out of a corner and you just stand there,

you're like, like, you know, it's not stomach behind you.

Like your head is forced into the, into the headrest.

It's, it's mad.

The bit that I picked up most noticeably was actually the ride quality.

So they've, because of the T hybrid system,

and then the battery in the motor, they plug the,

oh my God, can I remember the name of this?

E-E-D-H-P-C-C.

Oh my God.

Electric.

Oh, I forgot there's a ridiculous name for the chassis control.

Porsche, Porsche dynamic.

So it's a PDCC, E-H-P-D-C-C.

E-H-P-D-C-C.

And then there'll be a plus version next year,

but it essentially allows the anti-roll bars to react quicker than ever before.

And I'm sure that is noticeable.

I didn't have to drive the car on track, by the way,

just to clarify, I opted out because I was like,

like, you know, I want to know what's that called the road.

So maybe it's noticeable, but it makes the slow speed ride quality really nice.

So what I gathered from it, and it felt quieter in the cabin,

it was like they take the breadth of ability of a turbo s,

down to 2.1, and it's just amplified again.

So yes, you're right, incrementally better,

but I don't know if it's incrementally.

It does feel significantly better.

But I, again, revealing everything, sort of summarized,

or at least to you, I can say what I was summarized to you.

I said too fast, too heavy.

But that is such a, and someone said to me,

like, what do you mean by too fast?

Because nothing's too fast.

I got in the cabriolet in the afternoon, and drove smoothly down the hill.

Fine.

And then great.

So you don't have to drive like a twat.

No, of course not.

But the Coupe does implore you to do so.

And when you do that, it's too much.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

So as ever.

Well, I think that about my car mate as well.

If I'm going fast in my car, sometimes I'm going too fast.

Yeah.

It's way too fast.

Brilliant car.

Fantastic.

Still a bit of like that blunt instrument that all turbos are.

Like not particularly full of character and charisma.

Just really, really effective.

But anyway, so yeah, that video, which was a bit of a headache,

it was my attempt as a coffee run, classic, seen through glass.

Because there was a bit of a fight about who's getting what cars

and what they're filming.

And I said, I just need the car with the most B-roll,

because I'm here by myself.

Everyone has had a videographer.

So just give me the car with the most B-roll.

So they gave me the classic.

What do you mean, give me the car with the most B-roll?

It's a good question.

So most manufacturers, especially now that video is the primary

output of these press launches, will spend two or three days

before everyone arrives, filming the cars in all different scenarios

And I just had a little bit of puff of smoke in the back

and I came out and it's like this and you go, oh, yeah.

Dealers used to fit before collection in a locking system

because it's a known issue that they unscrew themselves.

So now before each drive, just tighten it up before you set off.

There's a little bit else you got there.

He said, don't worry.

You wouldn't have lost much oil.

It would have just been water and vapors.

But you've killed the bloke behind you

because he's gone through the barrier

because he's slimmed on your oil.

Anyway, it did make me laugh.

So now, literally, every time I get in the car,

I have to open up the fucking engine bed,

tighten up the oil cap.

So the whole way back, I drove all the way back,

I just kept tightening the oil.

I'm actually going there with Mini, which I'm so excited about.

I love Mini, and I drove that new JCW early in the summer,

but right to the day.

Well, you're going to go there in a new Mini.

Because it's a new car.

It's really good.

It was really nice, and I like it.

And I enjoyed it, and I only had it for a few days

in a bit of the day's content.

And I was like, I really want to have another go in these,

and where could be a great place to do them?

Yeah, we came up with this concept of Tale of the Dragon.

Because obviously, we take the piss out of that road

quite a lot in this podcast,

because Americans seem to think it is the best, greatest road.

But actually...

Well, it is in America, isn't it?

Well, when you speak to the people who really know,

they're like, no, there are a million better roads around it,

but it's the most famous.

Okay.

It's a bit like Stelvio Pass.

It's actually not the best pass, or...

It's a great pass, but it's an iconic pass.

So I think Tale of the Dragon is just iconic.

You have to get there to not have traffic.

It's Tale of the Dragon like Angelie's Crest and all that.

Because obviously, I've driven that.

I claimed outside of Swindon,

but very just normal, local, like FamJob,

but ex Land Rover employees that sell out by themselves.

So, weirdly, it's always been fairly reliable.

It's the 2.5-litre petrol engine, quite rare variant.

Is that a 4-cylinder or a 6-cylinder?

Yeah, 4-cylinder.

Yeah, a little tiny little engine,

but like it's probably got a 12-horsepower.

But it's always been quite rock solid.

It's got a lot of rust,

so they just did a lot of welding there.

It does need a new chassis,

but so I didn't really mechanically do anything

apart from just fix it.

It's my birth year.

when she's down there, like, I'll use it.

But I'm like, now, but I do want to go and do some stuff with it.

But it hasn't got past steering.

So, I don't know what that would actually be.

Um, that had to be replaced.

That was a big job.

800 quid for that.

because they've got some good connections and ideas in that sense.

and that'll be fun as, like, a sort of winter adventure.
