An EV scrap scheme is a program that encourages people to trade in an old car for an EV. When it’s oversubscribed, too many people want the deal, so not everyone can get it right away.
They’re discussing the Polestar 4, an electric SUV. They also point out there’s another Polestar 4 variant people might be thinking of, so they’re setting the record straight.
They say they released a review of the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric. That’s Mercedes’ electric version of the CLA model.
Car
Skoda Peaq
The Škoda Peaq is Škoda’s upcoming electric car. The big deal is that it’s designed for electric from the start, so it can fit more space inside—especially for rear passengers—and it has modern tech like a large screen and a panoramic roof.
Term
T-shaped datum run lights
This is a description of the car’s daytime running lights shape. The host is saying the lights are designed to look like a “T,” which helps the car stand out and look more distinctive.
An electric vehicle platform means the car’s “base design” was made for electric power from the beginning. That usually helps engineers fit the battery and motors better, which can create more usable space inside the cabin.
Car
kodiak
The Škoda Kodiaq is Škoda’s larger SUV that the host uses as a comparison. They’re saying the new Peaq is laid out so the wheelbase is longer, which usually means more room for people in the back seats.
The host is talking about the car’s main screen being turned upright (vertical) instead of lying flat. That affects how you interact with navigation, media, and other settings.
Car
Skoda Peaq
Skoda Peaq is an upcoming Skoda electric SUV. The big idea is a comfortable, lounge-like cabin with lots of tech, including a long driving range and a big screen.
Car
Skoda Kodiak
Skoda Kodiak is a Skoda SUV aimed at families. The host mentions it to explain why some buyers prefer the bigger, seven-seat version.
An exterior designer is the person who shapes how the car looks from the outside. They work on the car’s overall form and proportions, not the mechanical parts.
“Combi” is basically a station wagon—more space for luggage than a normal car. The speaker is saying the Peaq’s shape feels like a mix of an SUV and a wagon.
An aerodynamic cabin means the main passenger area is shaped to help air flow smoothly over the car. Smoother airflow usually means less energy is needed to keep moving.
The drag coefficient is a way of measuring how “hard” it is for air to push against the car as it moves. A lower number usually means the car uses less energy, so an EV can go farther.
Term
lip extender
A lip extender is an aerodynamic add-on at the front lower area (often along the splitter/lip) designed to manage airflow under and around the car. These details can reduce drag and improve overall aerodynamic efficiency.
The wheel arch is the part of the body around the tire. Since tires throw air around, how the wheel arch is shaped can affect how “slippery” the car is to drive.
Flush door handles are door handles that sit smooth with the car’s body. Because they don’t stick out, the air flows around the car more easily, helping it use less energy.
Term
pop out
They’re describing a door handle that stays hidden for aerodynamics, but can “pop out” in an emergency. The idea is to keep the outside smooth while still making sure you can open the door safely.
A facelift is when a car gets updated partway through its life. It often means styling changes and sometimes new features, but it’s not a totally new car.
Aerodynamics is about how smoothly air moves around the car. If the shape is efficient, the car needs less energy to move—so it can feel more stable and (on EVs) can help range.
Flush wheels are wheels designed to sit more in line with the bodywork, reducing gaps and turbulence around the wheel area. That can lower aerodynamic drag and also gives a cleaner, more integrated look.
Concept
clustering of the informations
Clustering of information means arranging the dashboard so related info is grouped together. That way, you can find what you need faster without constantly shifting your eyes.
Navigation is the car’s built-in GPS directions. They’re saying the new screen layout keeps your route guidance visible even when you change other settings.
HVAC is the car’s heating and air-conditioning system. They’re saying the new dashboard layout lets you adjust climate settings while still keeping navigation visible.
This is about how often your eyes have to move between the road and the dashboard. They’re saying the screen layout puts important info where it’s easier to see without constantly refocusing.
Touch operations means controlling functions by tapping or swiping on the screen. In this design, they’re combining that with physical buttons so you don’t have to rely on touch for everything.
Physical buttons are real knobs/buttons you can press without looking as much. They’re saying the car pairs the screen with buttons so everyday controls are easier and safer to use while driving.
A glass roof is a roof panel made largely of glass (often with tinting and insulation) to let more light into the cabin. In EVs and modern interiors, it’s frequently used to create a more open, airy feel while still managing heat and glare.
Magnetic wireless charging pads charge your phone without plugging it in. The magnets help keep the phone in the right spot so it charges more reliably.
Relax mode is a car setting that changes the seats to help you sit more comfortably. Here, it’s described as adjusting the co-driver seat for resting and comfort.
Leg support is a seat adjustment that helps support your legs instead of letting them dangle. It can make the passenger position more comfortable, especially when resting.
Man-made leather is a synthetic material meant to look and feel like leather. The speaker says it can last longer than real leather, and they’re testing it to confirm durability.
HMI layout means how the car’s interface is arranged—where the screens and controls are and how you use them. Changing it can make the design harder but can also improve how the car feels to use.
Term
space bev
“Space bev” was the team’s internal nickname for the project. “BEV” means battery-electric vehicle, and the “space” part reflects that the car was designed to feel roomy and practical.
A codename is the internal nickname a company uses while a car is being developed. Here, they’re saying the Peaq was called “space bev” during development to highlight the space goal.
The Alpine A110 Future is a prototype that previews the next generation of the Alpine A110 sports car. It’s meant to show how Alpine plans to make an electric version that still feels like a real sports car.
The A390 is an Alpine model that the podcast says is based on the Renault 5. It’s being described as different from typical cars in its class, so it may have a unique setup or layout.
A performance platform is the car’s main “foundation” that everything else is built on. Alpine is saying this new one is designed from the start for an electric sports car, not just converted from an older design.
Front-to-rear balance is how much of the car’s weight sits over the front wheels versus the rear wheels. “40/60” means more weight is on the back, which can help a sports car feel more planted and responsive.
Two battery packs means the battery is split into two sections. Splitting it can help engineers place the weight where it helps the car handle better.
Term
800 volt cell to pack technology
800-volt EVs can charge faster because the system is designed to move more power efficiently. “Cell-to-pack” is a battery design that can make the battery lighter and more energy-dense.
Term
dual e-motor 3 in 1 e-axle
An e-axle is the electric drivetrain unit that sits at the axle. “3-in-1” means several parts are packaged together to save space and improve efficiency, and “dual e-motor” means there are two motors involved.
The inverter is the electronics that turns battery power into the right kind of power for the electric motors. A SiC inverter uses a special material that can make the system more efficient and responsive.
This is a control system that helps the car coordinate turning and braking at the same time. The goal is smoother, more stable handling—especially when you’re braking while cornering.
Term
aluminium frame suspension setup
Using aluminium in the suspension structure is mainly about making it lighter and more rigid. That can help the car feel more responsive when you drive it hard.
The Alpine A110 Future is the next version of Alpine’s famous A110 sports car, but with an electric direction. The hosts are saying it matters because it connects Alpine’s rally history to the brand’s move into electric cars.
The Alpine A290 is another Alpine model the hosts say will be shown alongside the A110 Future. They’re treating it as part of Alpine’s push into more electric cars.
The Alpine A390 is described as Alpine’s best-selling electric hot hatch. They also call it a five-seat sportback, meaning it’s meant to be both fun and usable for everyday passengers.
This is about higher prices for EV charging through ESP. The hosts say the updated rates start on July 1st and are linked to keeping the charging network running.
DC fast charging is the quickest public way to charge an electric car. It uses high power to add lots of battery energy in a short time, and it usually costs more than slower charging.
A public charge means charging your electric car at a public charging point you can access outside your home. The price can be different from charging at home, so it affects your overall running costs.
A membership is a monthly plan that can make public EV charging cheaper. Instead of paying the higher “each time” price, you get lower rates if you charge regularly.
ESP network is a particular company’s set of public charging stations. If you use their chargers often, their membership can lower the price compared with paying each time.
Contactless means you pay by tapping your card or phone at the charger. It’s usually more expensive than using a membership plan because you don’t get the discounted rate.
Overnight charging means plugging in your EV at night so it’s ready by morning. It’s often cheaper and slower than public fast charging, so it can reduce your charging costs.
Concept
behind a barrier
“Behind a barrier” means the chargers are placed in a more protected area, not just out in the open. The idea is to help people who can’t charge at home get better access and better pricing.
Slow charging means charging at a lower power rate. It often costs less overall than fast charging, depending on your electricity and charging plan.
Term
e-cars prices
They’re talking about how EV charging is priced. The point is that the total fee includes more than just the electricity itself.
Term
capacity of the network
Network capacity is how many cars the charging system can handle at the same time. The episode says the real usable capacity can be lower than the headline number of chargers.
CCS is a common charging plug/standard for EVs, especially for faster DC charging. The episode is saying that some stations can only use one connector type at a time.
Term
Chatham
This is a reference to an older charging connector type. The key point is that at some stations, the connectors share power, so you may not be able to use both at once.
Connectors are the actual charging outputs you plug into. Some stations have multiple connectors, but they may share power, so not every connector can work at full capacity simultaneously.
Public charging means topping up your EV at charging stations you don’t own—like at malls or on the road. The price can change depending on memberships or how you pay.
Tap to pay is paying at the charger with a contactless card or phone. The host is saying that the price you get with tap-to-pay may be higher than with a charging membership.
BMW iX3 is an all-electric SUV/crossover. It’s being used here as a benchmark competitor—meaning the new EV being talked about is expected to compete with it.
The EX60 is an electric vehicle that the podcast describes as similar in style to Volvo. It’s being positioned as a competitor in its class, meaning it’s meant to attract shoppers comparing similar-sized EVs.
Four-wheel drive powertrains mean the car can drive all four wheels instead of just two. That usually helps with grip, especially on rough or slippery surfaces.
Horsepower is a number that tells you how much power the car’s motor can produce. Higher horsepower generally means stronger acceleration, and the host says this new version tops out at 536 horsepower.
The Volvo EX60 is Volvo’s electric SUV/EV model mentioned here. In this segment, it’s important because Volvo is adding Apple Music and surround-style sound features to it.
Spatial audio is surround-sound style audio. It tries to make music and vocals sound like they’re coming from different places around you in the cabin.
The ES90 is another Volvo electric model mentioned here. The segment says it also supports Apple Music with surround-style audio and premium speakers (if equipped).
Bowers and Wilkins makes high-end car/home audio equipment. In this segment, it’s the premium speaker system option that helps make the surround-sound effect work.
Bluetooth is the common wireless way your phone talks to your car’s audio system. The point here is that Bluetooth might not give the best sound quality compared with a more direct streaming setup.
The BMW X5 is a popular luxury SUV from BMW. In this segment, they’re talking about the newer (fifth-generation) X5, especially the all-electric version.
DC charging is the fast-charging type for EVs, usually found at public charging stations. It can add a lot of battery energy in less time than home-style charging.
WLTP range is a standardized test number for how far a car can go on a charge. It’s used so you can compare different cars using the same testing method.
The Volvo S60 is a sedan, meaning it’s a car with a separate trunk. The podcast is talking about a version with an x-drive setup, emphasizing it as a top choice in its category.
“800 volt” describes how the EV’s electrical system is set up. Higher voltage can help the car charge faster because it can move more power efficiently.
LIVE
Welcome back to the Nevo EV news podcast. If it's Tuesday, it must be Nevo EV Newsday on this week's episode
We're going to be looking at the Škoda peak and we're also interviewing one of the two actually one interior one exterior designer within the Škoda family
Peak was announced beginning of last week
We also reason that there's a bit of a backlog of stories coming up
We had a special interview with minister Darrell O'Brien
On last week's episode. So if you haven't listened to that already Simon interviewed the minister regarding the EV scrap scheme on the day
That the scrapage scheme was oversubscribed
We also have news of the Alpine A110 development car the mule. It's actually going to be in good wood this week. So we're going to be chatting about that
Since last time we spoke the ESPE cars prices have gone up
We've also got an announcement today about the all new Polestar 4 suv
Not the Polestar 4 coupé that you're thinking of the one without the glass in the back
We've a press release from Volvo regarding their apple music edition
We've had the BMW ix 5 announcement the leap motor b 0 5 irish prices announced
We chat a bit about the scrapper scheme and what happened last week when it was oversubscribed
Today on the youtube channel. We also released the mercedes cla electric review
And also we're going to chat about the si mi june 2026 stats
The last month of h1 and we've got visibility on the first couple of days of h2 in july
And some interesting stats there
For those who don't know, my name is Derek Riley on this podcast. We chat about all things electric vehicles
Nevo's Ireland's own home of electric motoring
And we'll be covering where we were this week what we've been driving and what we've been doing between the podcasts
If you haven't already subscribed or followed us, whatever you're listening to please do so
And if you enjoyed the episode, please leave us a rating and comment
It really helps us out and it doesn't cost you anything. So let's get stuck in straight after the ads
So scota peak and for vicki out there who always winds me up about how I say scota scota scota
Uh, scota peak um video up on the channel of the standard trim
There will be a sport line video going up separately over the next common days
Uh, scota's electric korea really is what you could call it. It's based on that mb platform, but it's what they're saying mb
Extended platform. It's not mb. Plus. It's not the newer one. It's they're utilizing what's currently underneath the likes of the eniac and the l rock
And the id 7 etc. So it is um
I've gotten to drive it. I've gotten to drive it. I've gotten to drive it covered around Italy
And I also got to have a look at it in studio uncovered what I haven't done is driven it uncovered
But what are we seeing? So um, it is the latest iteration and
The newest form of the modern solid design language
T-shaped datum run lights at the front gorgeous rosewood beige
Go color on the video that's up on the youtube channel and the sport line video that's coming is white
um
It's because it's an undedicated electric vehicle platform
The overhangs are much shorter than the kodiak. So it's a longer wheelbase than a kodiak
So you're getting much more leg room and I at 6 for 288 centimeters was able to fit in row 3
now
I wouldn't want to be there all the way to belmullet but it is
um, definitely capable of taking adults on a longer shorter journey
And teenagers and small are definitely on a longer journey
um
beautiful panoramic sunroof
They have changed the dash to be a vertical screen for the infotainment, which is slightly different
Two different interior trims. You've got sweet ceramic and sweet black on the video. We look at sweet ceramic
gorgeous light interior
as mentioned there is a
sport line version as well video coming
um
Really they're calling it your personal lounge on wheels
So it's all about having a mobile living room
Miniminous aesthetic premium sustainable materials 7c configuration in some markets. They have a 5c configuration
We won't be taking that in ireland. I was talking to shkoda europe executives in some markets
They only take the five
Cedar they have no interest in the seven cedar whereas ireland
It's very much the other way around and you can see the success of kodiak over the last couple of years
Very much a seven cedar and why families would purchase it
So the peak will in ireland to my knowledge and as of my information will only be coming in a seven cedar option
In other markets, they may only take it in the five and some markets will take both
It's all about that streamlining and making it as
cost effective for the factory but also for the
individual countries to bring it in
the um
You've got that electrochromic chromic chromic panoramic roof
You have um all the safety elements etc etc. You've got uh
Up to 600 over 600 kilometers range on the bigger battery. It's the longest range skoda electric ever
And so this is going to be drawing joining the peak
Um, sorry the epic apologies, which is their smaller suv. Then you've got l rock
Enyaq and then this will be top of the range top trim
Uh 13.6 inch vertical screen augmented reality head up display clear information smart connectivity easy to reach controls
It's got actual physical toggle switches for um temperature fan speed
and then permanent
Um, you uh edda or uh hvac elements at the bottom of the screen
um
Big battery fast charging etc etc
Um looking forward to getting hands on an uncover version and get them driving out in the real world
But before we do that, let's talk to some of the designers one does the exterior
And the other does the interior of the all-new skoda peak
Before we jump into those interviews actually
Prices we won't have prices until mid august. So if you are interested you can register interest on the site
All right, but you just want to an irish price as of yet. So let's jump into those interviews
I'm batista de brujer. I'm exterior designer for skoda for nine years now excellent
And we're here at the launch of the peak peak and epic at the same time and i'm
Aspecifically work on the peak excellent two different embargo. So this podcast will be going out after the peak
Yeah, this is a very interesting check accent. What part of uh, no, no, no i'm from france. Yeah, so
I'm from france. Yeah, so it's it's also my first job. I mean, that's like
My first job first company and uh, i'm loving it. Yeah, so how are you finding the check language? Are you proficient?
Not fluent, but i understand it. It's complicated. Yeah, but uh, i'm working on it. Yeah, you could order a beer at the bar. Yeah, that's most important
Coming back to the peak. Um, skoda's biggest car and as a designer
Everything has to be in proportion. Did you find this a big challenge? Yeah, definitely
It's a bit unusual for us when there is such a big package coming for skoda like a very long car
Um, but we know how to deal with this
We know that we are to stretch a car to make to make it look like elegant. So we have some
design features we research and we implemented on the car to
To make it low-looking and as well as stretch to not have too high appearance. Yeah, so it's beautiful looking
It's kind of a mix between a large SUV and a combi. Yeah, and it sits in between it doesn't look too tall
basically that was
The concept from the beginning and that was to have like kind of a little bit rugged
solid part
In the lower area of the car and then from the top to have a cabin aerodynamic cabin like combi like so you exactly spot the right
Excellent features. I wasn't talked about before this podcast
the um
A large car will have usually a very big drag coefficient for aerodynamics, but that's not the case with the peak
Yeah, so this was one of the also main point during the whole development of the car is that
Uh, everywhere the car is optimized for aerodynamics. So
You can see from outside on the exterior. We have this additional lip extender and the wheel arch at the front
Uh, we have some very small design elements which improve aerodynamics
But when you put them all together then the range of the car start to be
Consequent, you know extra range can start to be consequent. So yeah, it's it was really really big challenge for us
Yeah, but you've done a great job because the air drag coefficient is 0.25. I forgot
We worked hand and hand with engineers and they had like
really strong targets from the beginning and we achieved them and this was only because we
Worked well together designer engineers to find the best compromise and design solution as well to to to make it happen
Very good. Um first time flush door handles on a scota. Yeah. Yeah, that's uh, that's kind of dream for designer
to have the first handle especially first one for scota and
This ones are safe because we are
We had a lot of questions at that time because I know they're been in china etc. But this one I'm much safer
They have this
Pop out. I don't know how it's called exactly, but this pop out in kind of an emergency. So it becomes like a normal
It's connected by cable. Yeah, so it's much more safe and also it's for aerodynamics. So
I think it's the best compromise we could have for the car. It's beautiful looking and again helps with aero as you mentioned
Um modern solid is an element that we would have seen on the original al-arok and then the updated enyak
We also saw it on the epic but now in the peak it's starting to move along a small but as well. It's evolving. Yeah, exactly
so basically the
the aroch and the enyak facelift there were
Kind of one step into the modern solid and now we have with uh with the peak and epic we have the two feet in the modern solid
And when we developed the vision 7s a couple of years ago
This was like really a design statement and now we can finally translate it fully into the production cars
Uh, so yeah, everything you see on the car is modern solid was think about modern solid design features
So, yeah, we are quite excited about this asking a designer
What's their favorite element of the car that they designed is like asking your favorite child? But
What would be your favorite element or angle or viewpoint for me?
I quite like the the rear view of the car
I have to say the the fact that the the shut line is hidden with this design element this t-shape and loop
It's make it super simple and super wide-looking
So I'm quite happy with through quite a view of the car. It looks quite stunning
The video will be up on the youtube channel and the link will be in the description
Final question another question. I like asking designers
Do you like the look of the larger wheels or do you prefer the more economical smaller wheels that would give you more range?
Um, I mean depends from the side view looks good from the rear view
Depends. I think for for a small cd car for me to be honest
The small wheels looks fine like the smaller wheels
And for big car like the peak you need to have like wider looking tires to make it stable looking
Otherwise, it will look a little bit funny. So I'm happy. We got the big tires on the
On the on peak and they still are very aerodynamics with nice flush wheels. So
We'll be good. Yeah, very good. Thank you so much for your time. Yeah, welcome. It was pleasure. Okay. Hello. My name is luke.
I'm interior designer here in chicota and I was responsible for the project peak
A big change inside the peak from what we're used to with chicota because now we have one of many things versus the
The vertical screen. Mm-hmm. Yes. First time we are introducing this vertical layout, which was
In one hand quite challenging on the other hand, it was really good opportunity to redesign interior
So at the beginning we decided for this vertical display
because we believe
It's actually more ideal for the clustering of the informations. Yeah, so that's why this was a starting point
and of course
Around this we create a new modern solid design brilliant
When we did the initial cover drive in rom that we're talking about how people when the original screens and they're still great screens
But when people change if they're in navigation and they wanted to change something else
They couldn't see the navigation
Because now on the new screen the navigation will always stay there and you can mess with the hvac etc etc underneath
Yes, so you have that screen real estate, but it's not overpowering either. It's a nice size. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes
With the vertical layout, it's giving you more
Real estate as well
Vertical display gives you a bit more freedom as I said for the clustering
So on the top you place the informations which are close to the horizon the same with the main
Display for the driver. So we try to place this
This place close to the horizon that you don't need to refocus your eyes while driving
and then on the main abt the bottom part is basically
ideal for touch operations and of course
Together with the physical buttons
Something which we are famous for
We I believe deliver
The best combination of digital and physical buttons
Peak means it's the top. It's the best of everything and and you should go to let's start of the roof
It's the largest glass roof that you've ever done in a car. There's a lot of challenge with that as well
Yes, not so much for the interior
Because we always like to have really huge glass, but for the exterior it was challenging, you know to to combine the best design the best
Iro-Dynamic and of course the biggest
You can see technology also making a big play within a vertical screen. Yes, but now you also have the
Magnetic wireless charging pads. Yeah, so again slightly different look. Yes, first time we are introducing in this mech safe
We are bringing into the into the console. I think for the
Better functionality faster charging
We place it into the middle console. We keep it open for the best access. So I mean overall
The console really brings a lot of functionality with for the charging for the
table and
For all the things which you need the table. We didn't talk about the table
So for people that have looking to do a bit of work when they've plugged it in charge
Or maybe eat something this practical table is an option there as well. Yes, it is something which we
Took inspiration from our show car. So there in the show car
There was this relax mode and we wanted to bring this into the production. We manage I think and the table together with the
This relax seat functionality relax mode is bringing really new
New
Comfort feeling and new new new basically use cases while child charging and while you are resting
Relax mode explain to me about this also first time in Ishkoda with the seats that have the leg support also
Yes, yes, our seats. They have now this time this leg support
And together with the pillow basically
You can set the seats into the really perfect comfort position for the co-driver
And this function is available also while driving. This is also very cool
And yeah together with the table
With the infotainment you can really enjoy the time while charging for example
I always like to ask designers their favorite trim level. So you have studio
You have loft lodge loved and sweet and you have ceramic suite as well now, which is interesting for the kids
For the kids definitely I think also this ceramic white which is for me the most perfect one
Will be good because of course we are thinking also also for the functionality and practical ability always very good
Interesting to hear about the difference between the man made leather and the real leather that you're now finding that
Good quality man made leather is more durable than the real leather. So on a steering wheel or on a seat
You're finding that you know what definitely is the it has the same durability. So we are testing. So no no really
No compromises on that
Excellent. Last question. Such a big car
Interior and exterior. What was the biggest challenge for you and your team when designing the the peak?
It's a combination of many things. So of course
timetable frame is always challenging since the since the beginning
And then as I said, maybe at the beginning
The new HMI layout give us a lot of change opportunities, but also a lot of challenges and
Troubles, I would say
Codename for peak internally when it was being developed was space bev or space
Space because it was so big. Yeah, it was since the beginning
It was the project about really emphasizing the space
And functionality as we introduced it on the show car. So the car show car was
7s show car for the seven people. So
to emphasize
Space was one of the really biggest inspiration and task for us for the designers and I think it is visible in the car
Perfect. Thank you so much for your time. Thank you
Thanks very much to Josh in Scotland for arranging those interviews on the day that we were there
In the studio and Prague video up in the channel. I'll stick it down in the description
And we will kick on to our next story with regards to

ESP e-cars price hike
So with regards to ESP e-cars on the 30th of june
just last week
the
The ESP cars we're talking about continuing to invest in the maintaining the essential EV charging network and the updated pricing from july 1st
So what's changing?
They're changing it into two bands
So there's going to be two rates up to 50 kilowatts and then above
So pay as you go up to 50 kilowatts is 60 cent
And then if it's 50 kilowatt or above so DC fast and high power charging it's 72 cent
If you've got a membership, which is a monthly fee and really if you're doing any type of
Public charge and on ESP network on a regular basis membership is the way to go
That drops it back down to 55 cent and 67 cent respectively
And then if you're using contactless, it's slightly more expensive because it's obviously you're not giving your data
You're just tapping and going it is 61 cent for up to 50 see a kilowatt and then for 50 kilowatt and above
73 cent so the most expensive is contactless
At 73 and of course that's what all the media were jumping on and that's what all some of the other journalists were jumping on
And to be quite honest
I'm just getting a small bit fed up of the clickbait and the headline grabbing whether it's people saying oh
You should stay in your diesel or this is daylight robbery and all the rest of it
If you are only relying on public charging
You're not going to pay in paying the top peak if you've got a brain cell
You are going to be using the membership
And so you're going to be paying 67 cent if you want to use fast charging
Technically what you're going to be doing is plugging into a slower charge overnight
And you're going to be using it 55 cent and you're going to be shopping around
This is just ESP. There are going to be other places as well
And we're going to be featuring soon on the channel
Initiative where the government are looking at if you can't get overnight charging
Having some behind a barrier even more affordable electric charging options
So you're not penalized for not having the ability of charging on your own
So the the whole clickbait he stuffed the whole oh evs are more expensive than petrol or diesel
We've crunched the numbers here at nevo and whilst it is a more expensive now for sure
We're still seeing that it's more it's more affordable than certain fuel types. So so one of my colleagues
He was crunching the numbers a good data man here at nevo and he was able to say that with regards to it is
Some of the computations that you can go. So from diesel a cost per 100 kilometres. He's worked out as 9 euros 40
Ev charging is 10 20 on the sub 50 kilowatt rate petrol is 10 86
And then fast charging is 12 24. And if you're going to the most expensive, which is I honestly it's 14 45
And so technically from our numbers we're seeing that if you if you're doing ev and you're able to slow charge it
It's still cheaper than petrol even on this new esp rate
I honestly actually put out a piece today as to where they're getting their month their fee from
It's not just the price of electricity and they're margin on top of what they looked at
Well, what's the breakdown of their fee and why it's it's is it the most expensive?
It's 50 percent actual the price of electricity
But also then it's the investment in the network and the site costs as well. So the
I honestly
Update there on their social media channels gives a breakdown of that
So that is the esp e-cars prices. We also heard about the capacity of the network and not having the been able to charge
So esp have 1600 chargers and there was journalists saying that they can only use 1400 of these connectors
Older connectors have either ccs or chatham what that means is it'll only be able to power one esp count all of these connectors
Which probably is not good, but they do anyway. So if I pull up at an older 50 kilowatt
esp fast or charger
I can either choose ccs or chatham all and that's what it means by it'll only use one of them
Even though they shouldn't count both connectors technically because
So again more clickbaity stuff. I'm getting a bit fed up of it
the media and
Jumping on evs whenever they get the opportunity and putting out misinformation and disinformation because the headline is evs are more
Cheap or more expensive than petrol or diesel but not going into the fine print of do you know what if you're able to charge at home?
They're way cheaper
But of course that doesn't make the headline
If you're you're never if you're using a lot of public charging on esp you're going to be using the membership
So the fee isn't going to be 73 cent for tap to pay. It's going to be 67 cent
And so just be careful when you get the information from make sure you're looking at reliable sources
And you're not following some of this clickbaity nonsense that I'm as mentioned getting a bit fed up
Getting off my soapbox
The pollster for suv announced this morning actually and so what we're looking at is
A more upright version of the uh pollster for crossover and it's going to be coming on the september the second
And it's going to be rivaling the bmw ix3 and the mercedes-benz glc electric
It's all about pollster emphasizing its flexibility and practicality
The company said as it released this new official preview image of the versatile storage capabilities for every journey
So it's just a rear quarter and you can see how it's much taller
Very much volvo vibes
So it looks like a kind of an ex 60 competitor as well
um
So the new four variant was announced or reported back in february when the pollster ceo
Referred to it as combining the space of an estate and the versatility of an suv
At that stage the name was still not yet confirmed and decisions the
And the decision to firmly branded as an suv likely reflects the bigger market for such machines
Um confirming that the first technical details of the new entrance today pollster reveal
That that would be an off-road choice of rear or four-wheel drive powertrains
Tapping out at 536 horsepower like the existing pollster four
We'll also roughly match the current pollsters four's maximum official range
Um, so depending on what when you go for between the charges it uses the same
400-volt architecture and that allows up to charging of 200 kilowatt on the dc
The pollster for suv will be built in south korea alongside the coupe's roofed sibling
And will be set to be revealed in the coming weeks for before orders open in september
The official details of the car come
exclusively
You can see some covered images from some test drives around it
We'll also probably up against the likes of the portion mccan electric
Um, so looking forward to seeing more on that pollster for suv
next up we have the
Volvo announcement that the
Apple music will be available coming to more than 2000000 cars
This is an interesting one as an android user. I don't know what I ever go with apple music then, but it's going to be in the
Volvo anyway
Volvo cars are now going to be starting to integrate apple music into more than 2000000 Volvo cars via the overday or
software update the newly launched Volvo ex 60 review over on the channel
We'll also come with apple music natively integrated into the first customers or fees when the first customers
Receive their cars this summer and to help get new listeners get started the Volvo cars
They're offering eligible customers up to three months of apple music for free
Giving Volvo drivers plenty of time to discover new artists and find the soundtrack to the next journey
Drivers of the ex 60 ex 90 and es 90 all up on the channel can also enjoy apple music spatial audio powered by dolby
Atmos technology and brought to life by the optional bowers and wilkins premium sound system
Delivering an immersive experience that places the listeners in the center of the sound with music and vocals around all the cabin
I was looking off to experience this at the Volvo ex 60 launch
And it was very much about the provider and apple music has dolby atmos which spotify doesn't
And so when you do put this you are a audio file and you're putting in these
Amazing sound systems into the cars that you're purchasing purchasing. It's very important that the provider rather than a bluetooth
Connection to your phone. It's all about making sure you're getting the best quality stream to power these amazing sound systems in the volvos
So looking forward to seeing a bit more about that. So apple music
Is now going to be integrated into a lot of the volvos

At acceleration of 0 to 104.6 seconds top speed of 209 kilometers an hour an electric range as mentioned of 845
Kilometers and then an electric power consumption of they're saying between 23.9 and 20.1
So it's definitely in the 20s. It's a large bus
We're looking forward to seeing more about the bmw ix5 and the different variants
When we get prices and when we get information coming to the nevo ev review
news podcast and
YouTube channel
But we have information out and about there of the bmw electric x5
Next up we have um, which one we'll take a break
Now we have the leapwater ireland announces the next level pricing from the b 05 hatchback

Joining the leapwater ireland rapidly expanding ev lineup alongside this t 03 b 10
SUV the c 10 the b 05 embodies value without compromise philosophy and offering premium ev technology and an accessible price point
The b 05 represents an ambitious step in the c segment hatchback market offering a premium experience at a traditional b segment price

What when it's up in the channel if you haven't seen it already comes in this um
What's it called this yellow? Is it lightning yellow?
starlight yellow
it is
probably in the press release bucket breed
very
shirokko very
At the front. I was getting key at ev six fives. It is the electric gulf or the e gulf really
And even though somebody involved like wasn't very happy when we comparing this to a id three or an e gulf
it is
It has blade style lighting signature 19 inch aero wheels panoramic sunroof 21 adas systems
Every time I drive in leap motor i'm just going this is getting better and better every time when you look at what the t03 and the
c10
Where it's come even from then just the even the b10. I thought that was nearly perfect
No window wiper also again in the b05, but we've been told this is something that is coming at some stage over the next
Potentially 12 months class leading proportions. It's got a 1880 millimeter shoulder width and a drag coefficient of 0.26
Perfectly suited for irish roads. It reckons the b05 interior is anchored with a jewel screen cockpit with a 14.6 floating
Infotainment and an 8.8 digital cluster serving a high tech centerpiece in the cabin
And it's got its latest operating system leap os 4.0 plus
It's got a 218 electric motor giving you 240 newton meters of torque
0 to 106.7 seconds developed co-developed stilantis global chassis team in churin
That's been specifically tuned to european driving experiences and expectations
The rear wheel drive architecture is always great 5050 weight distribution also good like first and front multi link rear
Both battery variants support ultra fast dc fast charging with cell to chassis or ctc
architecture enabling 80 30 to 80 percent in just 17 minutes
I think they give us the 1080 which is around about 24
The app gives you full remote access to key vehicle functions
Climate control charging schedules vehicle status etc etc
Steven Mcgrath brand manager of leap motor island commented the leap motor b0 5 marks an exhilarating next level for the brand
Sporting design led hatchback that injects real personality and style into the electric driving
Just as leap motors were mentored into the irish
Marcus gathers pace
Paired with the t03 the b10 and the c10 the b0 5 superchargers are values without compromise promise
Delivering genuinely affordable standout charger challenger to the segment

Specifically with our nevo electric vehicle show in partnership with bank around coming in november two days of ev
It's like a disney land for ev people are interested electric vehicles
ev scrappage scheme update is happened last week. It was launched at 9 a.m
The system went down with such demand as it does but in about
Less than 90 minutes
I believe 45 minutes when the ur count rural divide because it was a 10 million euros
Budget it was split up 65 or 6.5 million for a rural 3.5 million for urban after 45 minutes the
Rural was gone urban was still going and after just under 90 minutes. It was all allocated about
Exactly 2000 people were
grant accepted
What I hear through the industry of the
2000 people are accepted there was from what I heard three and a half thousand applications
So just over 50 percent people accepted
It's pilot scheme what'll happen next. We don't know
As it was such a success you'd assume that it will go ahead again
It was the fact that you've had so many people applying for it and it could have taken up to three and a half thousand
Petrol or diesel cars of 13 years old or older off the road
It'd be interesting to see on that
Looking forward to getting the data as to what was traded in
What type of vehicles were being bought against it?
So we'll have more on that as the data starts to roll out
We might have one or two interviews coming up on that as well. So a huge success
Evie scrappage scheme
Hopefully you got it and some brands are stepping in if you didn't and helping out people to if they want to go electric
And they have something to trade in so
It would be interesting to see how those stories unfold
Coming towards the end of the podcast folks
We have the mercedes cla review going out today on the channel. So if you haven't already subscribed to the youtube channel
Make sure you do
Beautiful red. It was the cla 200, but it was the amg plus trim a very efficient
That's the biggest car in the world. It is a cla it is a coupé, but I was able to fit in the back
Boot isn't the biggest but it's over 400 litres
Got the mercedes-benz mbu x infotainment system
Yeah, probably the highlight is efficiency. So if you want to find out how efficient it was
You can head over and watch that review and you won't be disappointed
And last but by no means least we have the si mi numbers
We didn't get to them last week with the minister's interview and as mentioned if you haven't heard that already go back and have a listen to
The registration numbers for june
EVs were slightly down actually versus june of 2025
Not a lot of cars registered in june electric vehicles are pretty much dominated by tesla with their end of quarter sales push
PHEVs were up 20 percent
petrol sales down
For 54 versus june of last year diesel sales down 17 versus june of last year electric was the most popular fuel type registered in june
ahead of pure petrol diesel hybrid and plug-in electric
Over 63 percent of cars registered in june had a plug socket on them and over half all cars were fully electric
top five models for last month were tesla model 3 in first place second place went to the tesla model y
third place went to the schkoda eniac fourth went to the voltswagen id4
phenomenal phenomenal sales numbers
for voltswagen id4s
And fifth place goes to the Toyota bz
Voltswagen are the best selling eb brand so far in 2026 across all cars registered
And the numbers so far for july after the first six days
EV sales up 100 percent on the first six days of
252 last year
Currently they are the most popular say a fuel type now. Listen. We've got a lot of days left yet in the month
But from what I can see from the first couple of days it is
all going ho with
EV sales now the grant will have helped that
Fuel prices and people waiting even though the fuel spike when came in march and april people said you know what?
Moving off petrol or diesel, but they may have waited until a 262
So it's going to be a big month for eb sales. So stay tuned for that
