Fuel strategy is about planning pit stops and fuel amounts. It affects when you’re on track versus in the pits, which can decide who ends up in the best position late.
“Two tires” means the team changes only two tires during a pit stop. It can be faster than changing all four, but it may not fix the car’s balance as much.
“Four tires” means the team replaces all the tires during the pit stop. It usually improves grip and steering, but it takes longer than changing only two.
“Jumped the start” means the driver got going early before the race was officially underway. NASCAR penalizes it because it can give you an advantage right away.
A pass-through penalty means you have to go through the pit lane without stopping. It usually makes you lose positions because you’re slowed down compared to the cars on track.
Danny Hamlin is a NASCAR driver. Here they’re explaining how a penalty early in the race affected his strategy and how he still fought his way forward to win.
A pit penalty is a mistake or rule violation during the pit stop. It usually makes you lose time and position, so you have to make up the difference by passing other cars.
Dirty air is what happens when you drive behind another car and the air around you gets messed up. That can make your car feel less stable and harder to steer, which makes passing tougher.
Christopher Bell is a NASCAR driver. In this part, they say he had the strongest car and they talk about what he thought about his own setup and race execution.
Zane Smith is another NASCAR driver in this race. They’re explaining that he was using a different plan for when to run and when to pit, and that a caution affected his chances.
A caution is when NASCAR slows down the race because of a problem on the track. It bunches everyone back together and can change who benefits from their strategy.
Victory Lane is where the winner of a race goes to celebrate right after crossing the finish line. The host is saying Hamlin is there celebrating his win.
The “rotors” are part of the brakes. If they “blow out,” the brake disc can fail, and the driver may have to slow down more carefully because braking won’t work normally.
In a race, a “rotor issue” usually means a brake problem. The brakes use discs (rotors), and if something goes wrong there, the car may not slow down properly.
The “Chase” is NASCAR’s playoff system. If you “make the Chase,” you’ve qualified to keep racing for the championship, not just for regular race results.
“Championship contention” just means the driver is actually in the running to win the whole season. It’s about having results good enough to stay near the top in points and playoffs.
A “top 10” means finishing in the top ten of a race. Doing that often helps you score more points and gives you a better shot at winning races and eventually the championship.
Trackhouse Racing is a NASCAR racing team. The episode is pointing out that this team has been a standout this season, with strong drivers behind the wheel.
Ross Chastain is a NASCAR driver. The hosts are mentioning him because he’s one of Trackhouse Racing’s drivers this season.

You
It was a wild night in Nashville that started with a penalty to Denny Hamlin and then ended with Denny Hamlin in victory lane
I am your host Eric Schneck here with another episode of the stock car scoop this week
joined with my
Esteemed co-host mr. Mike Neff also known as the grumpy old man and host of the front stretch comm watch party
Which we just did together
sir wrapped up
Sir, what did you think of the cracker barrel 400 at the Nashville Super Speedway?
It was a good race. I mean that's all I can say we had
Strategies we had people trying to stretch fuel
We had tires that were given up new tires made a difference not a huge difference
But enough that it was worth jumping in at the end of taking a shot and we had brake failures
I yeah, you hate to see that in these races, but we had at least five
I've
That I counted brake failures during the race
And literally I'd like the brakes just exploding. Yeah and putting guys out of the race and two of the three track house cars
I believe we had a spire car and
Busher I think
Yeah, but I think Busher did it too. So yeah, it's just
We we got a late start with weather, but once the weather was out, we were good. We'd have a more weather the rest of the night
I
Mean you just you had comers you had goers you had guys that were faster at the beginning
You know the race guys were fast for the end of the race and
When it all said none like you said we're signing off the watch party
We started with Denny Hamlin getting a penalty on the first lap and we ended with him taking the checkered flag and
He wasn't really anywhere near the front. No
until that happened
I mean he literally on the final restart started on the inside of row two and
Bell and briscoe were racing it out getting into turn one and Denny
Ended up making the move got up side Bell had to race Bell a little bit and
Gotta got in front of him with a couple laps to go
Let me run down the the top 10 of the Cracker Barrel 400 just because I want to highlight some of the
Unusual characters that we have here in the top 10 which kind of highlights how crazy this race was this evening, of course
Denny Hamlin in victory lane as we mentioned earlier
He started on the pole due to the qualifying being rained out and he literally jumped the start like it was a drag race
He got a it wasn't it wasn't like who was he at the line or not?
He was a hundred and fifty feet ahead of the line before I mean just it wasn't even a thing absolutely crazy
Christopher Bell finished second
He had his own struggles throughout the day and he was back as far as I believe 29th after like a first or second set of pit stops
Great rubber bounce back for him chase briscoe finished third
He started deep in the field and now here are the first two surprises
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in fourth and
another
Fantastic day for Shane van Gisburgen finished fifth last week at the 600 SVG started up towards the front and
Stayed there the majority of the day this weekend SVG started like like 20th 15 16 somewhere in there finished fifth
Fantastic run for SVG Tyler Reddick finished sixth chase Elliott seventh Ryan Blaney eighth
Zane Smith in ninth another good run for Zane and then top 10 rounded out by
Carson Hosevar the theme of the night for a while was break
Failure they came and they came hard the first two impacted were Connor Zillich who is having a
rough
debut rookie season in the NASCAR Cup series and I can truthfully say
Most of it isn't his fault
It's not like it's not like he's running out of talent and getting into people and wrecking. It just seems like it's it's it's always
Something he got hit with the break failure first
Chastain got hit by it literally 10 laps later
track house
dead last 38 37 place
With SVG once again being a shining light
Then just fantastic racing throughout the field like you mentioned
Very different pitch strategy fuel strategies two tires four tires
Just fantastic racing throughout the field
A late start a late night. It is 1245 on the East Coast as we're recording this
But a wonderful night at Nashville
And speaking of that, let's go ahead and take this track side to our esteemed track side front stretch comm reporters
Danny in a Trenton Worsham Trenton
We actually saw while we were doing the front stretch watch party getting ready to interview. I believe
keselowski
Post show so Danny and Trenton. Let's go ahead and get your thoughts from the track. Take it away boys
Welcome to victory Lane
Well behind us is victory Lane where Danny Hamlin just celebrated winning the cracker bow 400 at national super speedway
I'm Trenton watch from a front stretch comm here with the lovely and awesome amazing Danny Peters. I don't know who that is
And man, what a thrilling race, you know the winner Danny Hamlin
He literally jumped the start had to serve a pass through penalty on pit road and came back to a chaotic stage 3 to win this race
Danny you were around the track taking pictures. You saw a lot of action. What did you see from this race?
Yeah, I mean I started just talking about Danny Hamlin's 60 second win of his career
so just one behind the man whose hat that you're currently wearing right and
Really just to get that early pit penalty
I think in a way it probably helped him because he had to work his way through traffic
He had to see how his car looked in dirty air how he got how to get around people in a track
Which has been hard to pass out over the course of this weekend
And you know, but even when he did get back towards the lead
I think you know and as good as that win is and a great finish three wide finish
Talking to brisco. He was like, I wonder what coach would have thought of that, you know
But even with that three wide finish
It's probably fair to say that on the day the best driver the best car was not Danny Hamlin
The best car was Christopher Bell. Yeah, I spoke to Christopher Bell after the race and he put it on himself
I asked him if he could do anything differently if what more his car might have needed. He said I had everything I need
It was on me him and him and brisco and Hamlin were battling three wide for an epic finish there and
You know, he was running down Zane Smith who was on a different strategy
He caught him with 14 to go was going to take him take the lead from him
And then obviously a caution came out and that changes everything as we say NASCAR with the cautions
That changes everything and that period changes period everything period. Yes. Yes
And you just speak to Zane Smith who was on a different strategy. What did he have to say?
Yeah, I think he was you know, obviously a little little disappointed because it could have gone a different way for him
And I think overall he was, you know, pleased with his effort. It's a good run for him
It's a track at which he had his best finish in the Cup Series second place in
2024 I was making sure I got my stats right with Steven Stumpf when you need it
But I think you know overall an encouraging result for him on the day and a solid top 10
Yeah, and I don't know if the camera can see us but behind us Danny Hamlin is back in Victor Lane celebrating taking some pictures
With that beautiful Gibson guitar trophy that every winner gets is not smashed yet
I don't think he's all smashed the guitar, you know as a tribute to Cowboys. I don't see him doing that, but
Yeah, I think he wants that trophy for the trophy. Yeah, last week
The Coca-Cola Six Under is NASCAR's, you know, basically home home race except for one team that is track house racing based out of Nashville
Conor Zillich and Rasha saying had rotors blow out SVG was the lone survivor carrying the Tutsi's brand on his car
And he got a top 10 finish I spoke with him after the race and he was concerned for a little bit about those rotors
And he told me that his car was set up a little different than those other cars
And so eventually he kind of knew you know to go easy on the brakes and that he was gonna be okay
But man tough night for track house two out of three cars taken out because of rotor issues
Yeah, that's for sure. I think another thing I want to mention here is you know, we did have a little bit of a rain delay
We have had a bit of rain this weekend with thunderstorms, but there was a really enthusiastic crowd
It was a sellout here at Nashville Super Speedway and that crowd stayed and they really were into it
And it's great to see when you come to the track a fan base of fans who are so into it
And for me like walking around the track taking photos like everybody wants to high-five you everybody wants to say hello
There's just this great enthusiasm
For cup racing and I think that's something that's really cool to see week in week out
We see that across the circuit speaking of the fans. We did something special earlier today
And so if you want to talk about that since you asked them all the questions
We should be out sometime this week. What do we do earlier today, Dan?
Yeah, we went out to the fan zone and you know even what when we went out there
It was probably still seven hours before the race
It was and and it the fans on the activation here is tremendous here here here in Nashville
but we took a minute to ask
Kyle Busch fans just for their memories of Kyle and it was I think really amazing to
To hear that the heartfelt stories and you know people people had a lot of different stories
I mean we did have a couple of people that talked about his Bristol sweep
But you know we had I remember there was one guy who was like he had his three points like bang right off the bat
Like straight away like he didn't even have to think about it
He was able to give these three examples of of here with the Gibson guitar the hundredth win in a Riley
I can't remember top of my head the third one
But it was you know and then there's a big like a tribute picture of Kyle for for people to sign in and I believe
You signed it and you know it was
you know, I think what a awful tragedy it's been and
It was really cool to see
door to hear those stories and to see how much this legendary driver meant to so many people and how
Important he was and how bigger place he had in the sport and how much he's helped so many other drivers and these fans
You know who absolutely loved him. Yeah, Bell being one of those drivers a former KBM guy, but I'm speaking of
Drivers paying the respects tonight Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Drove a tribute scheme to Kyle Busch the Noss paint scheme and he finished fourth and
I've got to talk about Ricky Stenhouse a little bit because I listened to your interview. That's not released yet
It'll be out for those of you watching
He mentioned they have to pick and choose the tracks that they think they're gonna be good at and ask them if natural was
was one of them and he said
that
You know, they just had to get really lucky tonight, you know, they with strategy and cautions and to end up in the top five
So good run for Ricky Stenhouse Jr. That that small team is doing amazing things and Danny
Where can you find working fans find that interview?
You told me buddy. Oh, I think you went like specifically away. Oh good. You freaked me out for a minute there
I'm sorry, but just a quick word. I just want to follow up on on Ricky tonight was
Total across all three series was his sixth hundredth Nascar starts. He's 486 in the Cup series and
You know, he's a 15 year veteran and you know, he's been with the team now with with Hyak motorsports for
Six or seven seasons just signed a new contract and you know, clearly
It's a it's a very much family for him
And I think he's really proud to represent them and and what it means for him to drive for that team
And yeah, Jeff definitely check out that that interview. There's lots of good
Some reminiscences about about Kyle as well and just all-round great guy Ricky Stenhouse
Yeah, we're not sure where it's gonna be out
But it will be out at some point and grab it up just a quick recap Danny Hamlin wins when it's the cracker bow for
Under tonight
Austin Dell and a brad keselowski got together keselowski was taking out the race keselowski's other drivers has some issues a priest blue radiator
And I think busher also got to the wall
I believe from a rotor issue and then as we mentioned the two trackhouse drivers Connor Zillich and Ross S chain had rotor issues and
Then Alex Bowman and Bubba Wallace were taken out from a from a wreck and Bubba was very defeated in his post-race
Interview about that and Alex Bowman, you know some similar thoughts, you know
So all those interviews are up on our Frenchwitch YouTube channel
I am Trent Worsham with Frenchwitch.com here with Danny Peters once again. There's Danny Hamlin still posing with the fans
And there's any time it's still posing with the fans. Thank you guys for watching
We will see you guys next week from Michigan International Raceway and we're back. Thank you Danny and Trent
All right, let's go ahead and wrap up this baby because like you said
We you did a five what five and a half hour watch party and it's
For one in the morning. No one expected to be this late tonight
Any other surprises coming out of Nashville today, I know
Trackhouse is still struggling but SVG is shining bright
He is figuring out ovals and I've I mentioned it multiple times on the watch party
if he can maintain this current pace where he's
Just finishing
7th 9th 8th 10th 7th just beating around that back part of the top 10
He's gonna make the chase. Yeah, and I don't think he wins a championship by any stretch the imagination
But him making the chase
It will be a big story oh
Yeah, as we've said for some time once he starts winning on ovals
Look out because
That is gonna be that next level that a lot of people were sure he could get to and if he
Store he's winning on ovals and dominating road courses as we know he will
You're looking at championship contention and I
Don't know that any of us saw that coming. I'm not I didn't know I'm one of these people that thought he's he's a better Marcus
Ambrose, right?
He's gonna come he's gonna win a bunch of road course races and he's just gonna be serviceable running
You know mid to back pack on ovals, but that's not the case
he's getting this thing up front now and
You tell you tell people all the time as drivers come in you first got to start getting top 10s
Then you start getting top fives once you're consistently getting top fives
Then you're gonna start winning races and that's where he's at right now
He's consistently getting top 10s and we'll see if he's by the end of the year if he's getting consistent top fives
If not, I think next year you'll see him
Consistent top five
And women's from oval races and once that happens
He's got a good as shot as any and winning a title
He is the shining light of track house racing
Oh for sure this season and that is a team that has Ross Chastain who love him or hate him
Wow, however, you feel about Ross
Uncharacteristic season for him
Connor Zillich one of the most
Not even one of I would say probably the most touted rookie since Joey Logano ended the enter the cup series
And the road course specialist from New Zealand is the one leading the way for team track house
So I I hope that positivity continues
the other story that I think is worth mentioning this evening before we wrap up is
Brad keselowski versus Austin Dylan, which is
a bit of
He wouldn't expect to see those two get into it
Yeah, I
Want to say Dylan was a bit salty at an incident early in the race with
keselowski and then
in my opinion
Dylan dumped keselowski and put him hard into the wall
Now, of course Dylan did not take any
Did not
How should I say it claim that he did that on purpose? It was obviously an accident from his point of view, but
An unnecessary hard hit in a night where we had tons of hard hits already. So
Not the greatest thing there
And I
And again, it was one of those
Racing deals that probably could have been avoided
Because you know, it was it was a situation where
keselowski came down on Dylan
Busher was behind him and tried to swing behind him and it's Dylan's fun and then later
they're in a opposite situation where keselowski comes down and
Dylan's behind him tries to avoid him
Doesn't and at that point
Just seemed to lift off the gas
I felt like he probably could have checked it up a little bit had he he might have got run over from behind
I don't know but
It just was one of those things were I think because of the initial one
He chose to not air on the side of cutting keselowski some slack
I don't picture that turning into something big. I'd be willing to bet they're gonna talk about it this week and agree that they both
Got into some positions. They didn't need to be in and it ended up causing both
Them to have a bad night, but in the grand scheme of things
I don't think there was anything malicious really that went on there
It was just a little bit of grumpiness that kind of manifests that into a couple
And and to be honest with the week probably Austin Dylan and Richard Children's Racing has had
Kind of understandable
Kind of kind of understandable
Looking ahead to the next week. We are at Michigan a race
I always look forward to next gen should put on a show as always at
Michigan and then even looking forward to a week after that. We're a polka-knoe and that's
So anyway, the thing I'm curious about with Michigan is it's
It's in the same realm as Charlotte. Yeah Charlotte got the repave
20 years ago and it is just now finally aging
To where it's having an effect on tires and really putting on good races
Michigan got repaved a couple years after that and
It's still not really aged and it's weird as far north as it is
You would expect that to age more with the weather. Yeah, the winters in
So we'll see
I
It's been putting on better races
I feel like it's gonna start aging a little more here in the next year or two and
That will be when it gets really good because when you get old school in Michigan where you have four or five different lines
Oh, I think I run through
Through it is so awesome because you just run wherever you want to run and you you you get runs you get passes
It's just it's an awesome awesome show. So I look forward to that. I hope we're getting close to that
But we'll find out next week when we get to Michigan and the next gen car is great in that type of scenario
So fingers crossed

About this episode
A wild Nashville night swings from an early penalty to a late victory for Denny Hamlin. The hosts walk through how he started on the pole after qualifying was rained out, jumped the start, and then had to serve a pass-through penalty—yet still came back to win. Strategy differences, dirty air, and a late caution reshuffled the field. Outside the Hamlin story, multiple brake/rotor failures and a rain delay impacted several cars, while Trackhouse struggled.
