The Transmission Lie: Why "Lifetime Fluid" Is Destroying Your Car

happen. We kind of battled one earlier in the season so I hope you're all feeling well,

doing well and that the cootie that seems to be floating around out there doesn't grab

get her in the video. Yeah, it was it was tougher than pulling teeth with a spoon. Not that I would

know. But anyways, yeah, we got the video shot yesterday. And she's telling you all about her

bringing up kids as a single mom and and Vanna white. So you're gonna learn about Vanna white

and that's a mini van. If you haven't watched the series, it was towed in last summer as a complete

non runner. It was like there were no life signs, no vitals whatsoever. And you'll have to watch the

video to see how I determined and diagnosed that van. And we brought it back to life last summer.

And Skippy and I headed into the you pull it yard in St. Catherine's and harvested what we needed to

get Vanna white back up and running. And then once that was all done, we confirmed that the van was

healthy and drivable and runnable. We found out that there were some noises and some serious noises

coming from the front end. So we're working on the front end now suspension and steering components.

And we've got a noise in the right rear to take care of. But anyways, getting back to the foundation

of the the YouTube video was we had to be sitting in this was her instructions. I'll do it if we

can sit in the van and record through the windshield. Yeah. So that's what we did. That's the way we

got the story, folks. So you'll be able to hear the story behind the 2010 Dodge Caravan and our

for you should be to become a prosumer and get away from being a conned consumer. Because the

talking heads have been feeding you this maintenance free, long life crap for way too long. And even

talking you into when you like hit 60,000 kilometers, you should start thinking about

getting rid of the car because it's going to need some parts and some service and it's going to cost

Well, today, yesterday was such a capital day, wasn't it? Oh my goodness. Can't wait for spring

to actually get here. Let's get the snow tires off. Let's get the vehicles blown out with the

leaf blower and cleaned up and detailed and get all that winter schmutz off in there. Today,

it looks like we're going to have a high of 56, but I think there's going to be some wetness in

there. Let me just check here. Let's get to the radar. 43 degrees right now, partly cloudy in the

Niagara region. So if you're in this area, that's what you can expect. Wind is making it feel a

whole lot colder at 38 degrees. Cloudy conditions from 7 a.m. till 2 p.m. with drizzle. There we

go. They're telling us the truth. So yesterday, a nice day for a Monday and today it's two for

Tuesday. Do you know what that means? I'll tell you in just a moment. So today's temperature range

is 43 to 56 degrees. That's Fahrenheit and feels like 37 to 52. And let's see if they give us an

amount of rain with the drizzle 0.45 of an inch. That's what we're looking at. So you know what?

We don't have to get the snow blower out for that. We don't have to get the shovels out and pretty

soon we can raise our snow brushes together and then put them away. Isn't that going to be a great

feeling in all that clothing? Yesterday, Skippy and I were wandering around the workshop shooting

videos and segments and it was a huge day for us with the 1997 Jeep TJ Wrangler. You have to watch

that video. It's been a 24 month ride and sharing all the maintenance that had to be caught up on

that vehicle that was the TJ I found in a truck wrecking yard in Niagara on the lake. We got it

back here and I drove it yesterday. We drove it out of the shop, fired it up and drove it out of

the shop and it was outside all day. We were working on shooting some other spots for you where you

can learn suspension and steering components, what to look for, what is a bad ball joint?

Bad ball joint. Is that worse than a bad donkey? We're not sure. Words out. We're trying to find

out which one's worse, a bad bad donkey or a really bad ball joint. But we know a really

badly worn ball joint can make for a very interesting ride on the highway when it breaks.

Yeah, because the wheel goes a-flapping and I think that's a new country song now. I'll see if

it's on the charts for you. So I gave you a question right out of the gate this morning.

How long would your car last if you actually followed a proper maintenance plan?

Seriously, folks. Seriously. Well, we built a laminated reusable fleet maintenance system

the same time, you are way ahead of a lot of other people out there. You can follow the car

have a car with a key means of getting it started and your car has all the same components as cars

had 10, 15 years ago. Everything works the same way but it's by the means that has changed.

That's it. You don't need to know all that stuff. You need to know the basics to keep that vehicle

going a long time and ladies, listen up. It will prevent you from getting ripped off at the service

department. If I had a nickel for every email I've received in 31 years on radio, hey, motormouth,

I'm sitting in my beach chair drinking a fruit drink with a little umbrella in it and then I

16 years old. How did I do that? Following a maintenance schedule, not listening to the white

noise. I didn't even know what that was until, you know, as I got older and you're hearing this

stuff and going, why are you telling people that with their vehicles? Why are you telling them that?

It's not true. And today, guess what? Here we are still. It's not true. They're feeding you a Lota

transmissions today because that's what puts a ton of vehicles in the U-Pullet wrecking yards,

where the bodies and interiors look amazing on the vehicles, on their stilts, but the

transmissions blow up. How did that happen? Yeah. How did that happen? It's called

maintenance neglect and listening to the white noise and not listening for the signal.

Transmissions are not maintenance free. I don't care what year, make, model, or design it is.

Guess what? It's not maintenance free. The fluid that goes in the transmission is not lifetime fluid

because here's what they know. They can get your transmission to blow up. You're going to buy

another car before you fix it. All right, so let's count this thing down. You got your beverage,

whatever that is, smoothie, decaf. It's kind of wrong. And we're hardcore here. I run on nothing

less than high octane. 99.5% octane boost, not a penny less. Three, two, one.

It's delicious this morning. Got a bit of a cold kind of challenging me, so I put a mask on the

microphone. So you guys are all okay, right? You're good. You're good with that?

We do a little segment, a video on, you know, those trunk shocks. Yeah, now they're on hoods,

they're on hatches, the back hatch. Yeah, the one, the hatch where you put it up and you're

like, oh, is it going to stay? And then it wax you in the back of the head, those shocks.

We're going to do a little segment on that because there's a trick to getting those shocks,

those little struts to last longer. Because yeah, I recently just changed my own on the FJ

and because one was weak and I didn't know which one, but anyways, always change them in a pair.

That's the way it works. Yeah, you only get whacked in the back of the head by your hood

once or twice and then you go, yeah, I don't like that. I think I'm going to change her up.

That's a good idea. It's a very, very good idea to do that. The broom handle prop rod thing,

there's a, I'll tell you right now, there's some, there's a company on the jungle website

that provides those shocks. Excellent. I got to, I got to give them a 10 out of 10.

Their instructions are not being, the instructions they give you are in pictures all in English,

proper English. Yeah, not, not translated instructions by some kind of sadist. I don't

know about you, but a lot of times you get the instructions going, what, what the stink are you

talking about? So I found a company on the, the jungle website that provides them and I'll tell

you what, the quality is, is out of this world, outstanding, outstanding quality and they were

fairly, they were fair priced. They give you a helpline, they give you everything you need to know,

even if you're buying the struts and you're creating some kind of box or something for your

home, they show you how to figure out which shock you would need to open and close closures and I'm

thinking, wow, that's a company that really puts it out there for you, but they give you some tidbits

on how to make them last longer and I'm going to share them with you and they are tidbit tips

and tidbits that I did not know, did not know, so you don't need to pay through the

nose for those and you don't need to get hit in the back of your head and almost knock you out

from the hatch or the hood. Transmissions are a big deal folks, they are a super big deal,

wouldn't you say? Because if the transmission is not working, you get a nova, car no go,

that's what that means, car no go. Who names a car nova when translated means car no go?

Isn't that weird? Yeah, it worked with a gal that had a nova, remember she, Christine,

and she said, not on a break time, we were all working at a chicken processing plant, she's

got this weird light on in my, in my nova, can you look at it? Here's the story.

And so I go, yeah, I'll take a look at it for you, Christine. So I go out there at break time

and it's the oil light, the oil lights on, this was like a 1969, 70 Chevy Nova.

So I pull the dipstick out and it's like all crusted over, there's nothing on the,

on the stick at all, like the, the oil dipstick is so dry, it's got barnacle builds growing all

over it. Like, Christine, when was the last time you put oil in it? Oil? Oh, I don't know anything

about that. I don't put anything in it. I just, you know, gas, I put gas in and started up and go.

So I said, there's nothing on this, this indicator, this dipstick that says you even have any

for a long time. So I looked after some of the trucks at the, the chicken plant. So I went and

got some oil. And back in those days were like 10 W 30, get your car happy again. Didn't have

multiple flavors like today in fluids Pacific. So I put five quarts of oil in that Nova.

But I had, I remember I had four quarts in there already, and it was just touching the dipstick

tip. So I put a fifth one in there and got it up the full mark. And here's the sad part. Here's

the sad part, folks. Here it comes. About two weeks later, the engine blew up. Can you believe that?

I mean, I'm thinking Christine goes, you'll never believe it now. My car blew up and made this big

noise and then smoke and everything in the car shot off. I said, I'm really sorry, Christine. I

guess we should have just left the thing well enough alone. It seemed to be doing what it was

doing without any motor oil, but don't get any ideas, folks. So transmissions, even I'm going to

bring my own transmission into it as well. A new to us vehicle in our car connection fleet. And

I'll tell you the thing, you got to tap the fuel gauge. Are you? Is this real? It gets fantastic

fuel economy. I can't believe it. And I just heard yesterday I was reading oils gone up to like $200

a barrel. So get ready to pucker, because fuel prices oil goes up, you know what happens at

the pumps, right? So keep your tank full on while it's still down, because we could, we could feel

the squeeze if you know what I mean at the pumps. So myself doing the research on this 2008 Nissan

Rogue, I knew already ahead of time the CV, CVT continuous velocity, something whatever,

transmission is not good. So when you in my world, when a text says CVT transmission,

they usually go, God's man, don't bring it here. Don't bring it here. We don't work on that. So

there is service intervals out there. But here's what I would tell you. 50,000 kilometers is

definitely a good benchmark for servicing the transmission. It really is 50,000 K. And you're

going, what? Well, some of these transmissions are so expensive that that's why the vehicles end up

in the wrecking yard, because well, how are you going to sell it? Vehicle doesn't move. Hey,

good to, you know, good to those who have a spare transmission in your closet or in the corner

of your garage somewhere, not going to happen. So you only get scrap value. And that's why the

scrap yards have a lot of vehicles where you know, the body metal and everything else, if you're

building something like a minivan, man, you could fix her up real nice, because there's a lot of

body panels available that are in mint condition. And we're going to show you that this summer.

We're going to do a little cosmetic surgery on on Skippy's minivan. Yeah, I told her, he said,

we're going to get those off of there, put a couple of fenders on and get rid of that rust that's at

the bottom of the ones that are existing. So falling in to the gap that's created on this long life

oil and coolants and everything and falling into the idea that, oh, you don't need to service that

or that's maintenance free or that's good for the lifetime of the vehicle is not going to help you.

That's going to hurt you. So that's why you've got to take charge of your vehicle maintenance,

then you know what's going on. And that's why we're making the car connection fleet maintenance

And it's so easy to follow along, don't be afraid of it. If you can, if you can send an email and

text from your phone like my 89 year old pops can do, and many others his age are doing it,

then you can certainly learn a maintenance guide that is designed to give your engines,

your transmissions and your vehicle longevity, which is money in your pocket every single time.

So if you use the 50,000 kilometer benchmark as when the transmission needs to be serviced,

you will prevent those expensive repair bills $5,000 and over. You can prevent that from happening.

And that's my game plan with the oh eight right now with the

the Jeep TJ is out of the service bay that we use on a regular basis, the what we call the in

and out lane has been tied up on that project. But now it's open. I'm going to whiz bang the 2008

Nissan Rogan and get the factory transmission fluid and do a drop and fill. The other thing

you need to know is this gush and flush system where it's like intravenous.

They hook up and they flush out the transmission and so out goes the bad blood in comes good

is basically how that works. But if the transmission is equipped with a pan that can be removed and

there's a screen in there that can be cleaned and serviced or a filter that needs to be serviced,

that's the proper way to do a transmission service right there.

It's not like cutting the grass in the third week of July and it's high high humidity and it's

almost 93 degrees out and you cut the grass, you come in the house, you take a shower and

you put your dirty clothes back on. Yeah, you wouldn't do that, right? Would you? Let me know

in the comments. Would you do that? Well anyways, no that's not how you do a transmission service.

If the pan can be removed and again if there's a screen, a serviceable screen, we have one vehicle

where when you take the pan down there is a mesh screen in there that needs to be cleaned

in mineral spirits and then I usually use brake parts cleaner to clean it a little bit more

thoroughly and blow it dry and then put it back in. That screen doesn't need to be replaced,

it just needs to be cleaned out and then get a new gasket and put the pan back up.

Now you're ready to refill. That's the best way to do it. Just in goes the good blood,

out comes the bad is it's just a lick and a promise if you know what I'm saying.

That's what that is. It's not a full service. On a major component like that you want to protect

that thing like it's the last transmission on the face of the planet because when that goes down

you will never forget how much that cost to take it out. In this day and age with today's

technology getting transmissions out is quite a treat. That's all I'm going to say. It is quite a

treat to get them out. In a lot of cases we got to drop the engine and transmission right out of

the car together to separate them and get the transmission off. There's no other way to do it.

So it's the technology, cars are tighter, smaller and compact where all the mechanicals are and

it's difficult to work on them. It really is. And here's what I tell folks when you buy something,

when you're looking to buy something open the hood and look. If it looks congested and tight

and miserable in there then that you know what that means? Here's what I'm going to tell you. Here's

the big clue. That means more labor to work on it all the time. Anything that needs to be under

the hood and worked on all that stuff's got to come off. It's your time, it's time, the text time

and money out of your pocket. So this is what I say. When you open that hood and you can see stuff

then you're going to save on labor time. You open that hood and you can't see anything. You don't

even know they say it has spark plugs and you go like where? Well somewhere under there I think.

They're under there somewhere. That's a car that's going to cost you more money in labor. So you

got to think about these little things so that you know what you can save money. That's another

reason why I bought the FJ Cruiser is I can hold a square dance under the hood of that vehicle. I

can get around the engine almost 360 degrees and get at everything. Some, there's a couple items

that are a little bit tight but I can still get at them and change them out. It's not like I take

half the car apart. I can still get to it by taking a few components off. So use that rule of thumb.

Protect that your vehicle's transmission and you're going to love your car even more because

when that transmission goes down the day completely changes for you because the price tag is going to

be very hard to swallow. So you can prevent that by not listening to the white noise

but doing service. Service the car. It is a mechanical device in order for us to get to and

from a point A to point B and get through our daily, weekly, monthly schedules. It is a tool

to help us to get all that done and we need to look at it and view it as a piece of equipment

that requires maintenance and that my friends has never changed. In the moment you think you just

get in, you gasser up and you go, you have listened to the white noise and you have fallen into the

conned consumer department. The cat has got to come to the end where the mice are smarter than

the cat. That's when you're winning. You got to be a smart mouse to avoid the cat and you can do it.

You can do this and I will help you and I will coach you. Yes, moving on so we can close out

in with for most of 2025 and all in for 2026. They're serving men, women, children, single moms,

meals, love and hope every single week, every Tuesday, every Friday, meals out the side door

and programs for the kids after school. They feed them, they love on them to play games with them,

help them with their homework and they can also take free music lessons as well. They have so many

programs running and so many wonderful volunteers. They're out there changing lives one at a time

in the Niagara region in our very, very own backyard. They don't get any grant money from

anywhere. They have to raise their own funds to provide the meals, provide the services and

all the programs that they're running. They don't cost you a penny. So click on their logo folks,
