The Wall Chipmunk

Alright guys, so you know how my house, my house is, my house in water are, they don't like each other, right?

Yeah. Water. You guys. I've had some run-ins with water.

I've gotten real good at dealing with it.

I guess this would be three.

So Kelly and I were at the mall on Sunday.

We left around, I don't know, 10 15, 10 30, got back around 1 1 30, parked the car in the garage, walk in the hall, and we hear water running.

And I'm like, oh boy. It's the worst. It's the worst sound.

I hate it so much. It's just, it's so obviously we check,

all right, there's no faucet on, there's no toilet running, whatever.

And I'm like, here we go.

So I go down into the utility room and eight is just pissing water, like, just from the, the ceiling, which is underneath.

So fortunately, utility room, unfinished un un yeah.

Concrete floor. But you can see all the exposed water lines,

electrical lines, sewer lines, everything.

And I'm like, all right. A, thank God it's fresh water.

B thank God it's in an unfinished part of the house. What?

Let's just turn the water off and figure this out.

So we turn the water off and I'm just like, this doesn't make, this doesn't make any sense.

Like it's 55 degrees.

We've gone through the coldest part of winter, like there's, we haven't had any problems.

These are pecs lines, so they don't freeze.

Like it's not copper that we're dealing with.

Like, I don't understand what, how on earth this has happened.

Well, let me, let me backtrack to Thursday or Friday.

And uh, Kelly sends me a message and she's like, I hear something in the ceiling.

And I'm like, of my office.

And I'm like, oh, <inaudible>, there's no way, because between the ceiling of her office is just the second floor of the house.

So it goes ceiling, subfloor floor. There's no crawl space.

There's no, I was like, you heard dogs running upstairs, you, but you didn't hear anything.

So anyways, back to Sunday, um, you know, I'm walking through the house, I'm like, I'm, I'm like, there's no wet wood, there's no drywall, there's no staining, there's no area where this could be an issue.

Like the toilet where this line, I'm guessing runs to is fine.

Anyways, I hear this like screaming, just high pitch, screaming the wall.

And I'm like, holy fuck. Is this a horror movie now?

No, . Like, it's just this, this wailing,

and it sounds like a fricking, it sounds like a little human is inside my wall.

And so I positive, this isn't a horror movie.

Dames knows this about me. I love a good saw on drywall.

Yes. Just you love cutting holes in dry wall.

I just went to town and chased this sound around.

And it's a on whole number, on whole number four.

Kelly's like, we're in the, we're in the hall bath still.

Kelly's sitting on the toilet number Four.

This is, I, this is my nightmare. And

I'm like, I used a stud finder and I'm like, hole number four and pop the drywall out and there's a tail.

And I'm like, like what?

Like it's, this was one like, is it, it's, you don't know what's behind there, right?

So like, it was a little bit scary.

And so this little chipmunk pops outta the wall.

And so we close, we closed the door, and now we're like, well, now what? Like, open

The door. What do you mean close the door?

No, no, no, wait. Now it's just in

Chipmunk.

I know, but like, oh No, wait, where What room?

It's in the hall bathroom. In the hall bathroom.

There's a chipmunk. Right? Okay.

And we're like, okay, now what?

So we've got him outta the wall. Now what?

So we are, we're like, we're gonna open the garage.

We open all the garage doors and we create this like barrier Barricade. Yeah.

Right. So that he, when we open the, the bathroom door,

he just runs out the hall in into freedom.

So we open the door, this mother jumps back in one of the holes of the wall, .

Well, less scary than people.

Boo . Yeah.

Now, now we're getting provolone cheese out because we now know what it's, and it's not a rat, right?

So we're trying to coax this guy out and he, um, finds the cheese.

But then in this, in this moment where we're like, oh, here, little cutie chipmunk, whatever.

Come get the cheese. The barrier came down.

So now he came out dogs? Nope, the dogs were outside.

We had tied him up outside. Okay. He ran out to the house.

So now there's just a chipmunk in the house. Perfect.

And so now we're just trying to like find where this little chippy went and ran to.

Fortunately, like he was stuck in like, he just ran to the dining room 'cause there was a bunch of windows and everything.

So we were trying to like, get him out the window.

But this, he was like spider monkey, like he was jumping from table to, to dresser, to window to, and we were like, just go outside.

Poor little guy was so wet and so scared.

And we finally got him outside and it was like, huh.

And so here's the thing.

He not only chewed through a cold water line, , poor guy chewed through a hot water line too.

So he must worked his mouth real bad.

Um, and so got a plumber out, we replaced the, we replaced the, uh, the, uh, both lines.

Turned the water back on. Everything was fine. Are are

You sure it was him chewing through the line and not you, I don't know.

Cutting your walls open that maybe nicked one No Positive.

The flooding was happening first with all the bite marks.

He actually chewed through the lines.

But these, I found these little pieces all along the floor.

So he just chewed through. Oh, wow. Yeah.

So I've become pretty good at understanding how sewer venting works and all these sort of things.

So I'm pretty deep in the trenches on how, on how homes, How to pest proof your homes Were built.

chipmunks don't get in through the roof.

Um, chipmunks are ground animals. It wasn't a squirrel.

So the, it didn't get in through the roof, even though I'm now pretty locked in on some entry points for the roof and yeah.

Um, I've cocked some, I've cocked some things.

Uh, so we're good on, on, on top.

All right. When, uh, when, uh, it just,

it felt like too much at this point.

It felt intentional. I had, I had a dryer vent

that was moved and I was under the impression, so the dryer vent, it had come out the ground floor of the house and it was kind of on the back patio.

And I had it moved to a different part of the house.

So it wasn't blowing like the little lint stuff onto the back patio, onto the furniture and barbecue and, and everything.

Well, when I hadn't moved, I was told that they sealed off where that dryer vent used to exit from the inside and that they didn't fix the outside just because it was brick work and that would require a mason and all this sort of thing.

So I had looked at it kind of briefly when they had finished and it looked pretty sealed from the inside.

And yes, there was a missing brick, but like, they weren't gonna do the brick.

And I hadn't gotten around to hiring a mason to do one brick job.

Right. Well, I, I did a little bit more digging

and poking around and everything and I found that they did not seal it at all from the inside.

So he came in through the dryer vent area on the ground floor.

Got it. And then got his way into walls and was thirsty.

So, 'cause he couldn't get out , He thought he was hungry.

So he started eating this thing.

Turned out he was actually what he should have been doing if he was thirsty. And

I just hope he got the hot water first.

I feel like if he got the hot water first, he would've stopped.

Would've been like, this isn't good. This isn't fun at all.

Like it's the smallest little thing, but it's like a, like where some drywall, like anchors for a towel rack thing came out.

Got, I have zero need for that.

Like my apartment complex.

I can just go to leasing and they'll give me the exact like paint that everybody uses.

I read this article and I, I, I wanna get your guys take on it 'cause I think it's, I have my opinion and I wanna know what your opinion is.

So this person sits down on their flight window seat, and guy sits down next to them and taps on the shoulder, speaks no English, uses a translator, um, on the phone to say, Hey, uh, my wife's in the window seat at the other side of this row.

Do you mind trading? And so they were like, yeah, fine.

No, no problem. Whatever.

And so get up and trade and like, falls asleep immediately, just like was head up against the window, went to bed, and then gets woken up to this angry guy being like, Hey, you're in my seat.

And they're like, what? No, I'm not.

And they go, yeah, are you 12 F?

And they're like, no, I'm not.

I was 12 a, but I switched with the person that was in 12 F and he goes, no.

And he shows the seat.

Turns out the, the wife was actually in the middle seat on the other side.

And so now this person has to move to the middle seat.

Let this guy take his window seat short of calling the couple and being like, like, oh no, Hey you guys, you know, your seat was wrong.

I want my seat back. And so they just copped it.

It was a two hour flight and they just copped it and sat in the middle.

But the whole debate is like, did they know?

Did they just, did they see I person outta their seat?

I feel like I, I would Probably hit seat.

I don't speak English, you know?

And so like, they're like, yeah, I could've, but it would've required calling the flight attendant to come talk to the couple who doesn't speak English and whatever.

And, and so I'm like, the, the debate is did they know what they were doing and they seat scammed them?

4.2, 4.25, and 4.36.

So I'm, I'm, I bought myself a day off. You're, yeah.

So that's kind of, I find I aim for about four then I, you know, I buy myself a day every kind of, you know, week or so.

So, um, but it's gonna be tough.

Museum is selling a bunch of their non indie 500 cars? Yep.

Um, to raise, to raise money to kind of help fund the, the, the museum going forward.

Universities have 'em Endowment, Thank you endowment.

Um, 'cause they, they've, they've, they're doing this big renovation at the, at the museum, which when it opens is gonna be spectacular.

If, if you saw it beforehand, uh, you're gonna be blown away by what's coming.

And I'm really, really excited for it.

I think it's supposed to be April this year. It opens up.

Um, and so that's, that's all been funded, but then, uh, they just want to create an endowment so that way they can, you know, have money and perpetuity to keep, you know, improving it, whatever.

So they're selling a bunch of their non Indy 500 historic sort of cars.

And one of 'em already sold, it was a, a Mercedes 1 96 W 1 96 Formula one car that's Sterling Moss drove and it went for like 51 or $52 million or something.

Right. Good deal. They're ex they're expecting the whole

lot, which I think is 11 cars to, to raise over a hundred million bucks.

And so Sotheby's does the auction and I'm actually gonna get to go out to Detroit where, uh, the remainder of the cars basically are.

And film some like, videos for Sotheby's that kind of like, help showcase the cars and talk to a historian that knows everything about 'em or whatever.

So I'm kind of like a nerd about that stuff.

And I'm super stoked to get to go out there and see some of these old, some of 'em are old race cars.

There's like the Lama winning GT 40 and there's an old Michael Schumacher Formula one car and stuff like that.

So there's some cool stuff.

I'm gonna get to go, go play around Sotheby's around.

So we had an, we had a nice chat with Jacob Abel earlier this week, if you haven't listened, tune back, uh, to the Tuesday episode, one of the rookies of, uh, the 2025 season.

Um, but it's funny, he, he kind of brought up an interesting point about how, you know, he was on the road to Indy with guys like Oliver Raku and guys like Kyle Kirkwood, who obviously have made it to the Indy car level much quicker than he did.

But it kind of got me thinking about how that's one of the unique things about racing.

And Alex you kind of touched on it in the episode, but I was trying to think of other sports where that's even possible, right?

Because like, if you're trying to play football, right?

And you go through college and you don't go into the NFL right outta college, you're probably not playing in the NFL.

Right. And it's a lot of, a lot of college sports

Are like that.

I'm gonna, you're ly right. I'm gonna give

you a sport. Well,

Golf was the one that I was gonna say, because like, you can, you can try and get your tour card every year, right?

And like, you can just hit a, hit a banger year at 28 and end up on the tour and be on the tour for 10 years.

But like, if you're not a 19-year-old phenom, you still have a chance at being a professional golfer.

You seem, again, you know way more about golf than I do.

Yes. But it just seems like something you can get

better at and keep going.

Like the, the system doesn't leave you behind.

You're probably absolutely right in that regard. I don't know.

Now racing, you're not gonna rock up to in car at 29, but like Right.

It at 24 or you could do it at 18.

so incredibly difficult though to accomplish that because you have to shoot, like what you have to score in like competition, like you would've been a pro golfer already, I think is kind of the, the, the reason why. But can't

I'm not saying you're like a, you're like a, you know, golfer and then like one day you just figure it out, I suppose.

Biathlon League? No, there's not, right?

I don't think, I don't know, maybe there's like a pro bobsled tour that I know nothing about.

I'm not sure. There's definitely pro curling,

but it's not like, I don't know, it's not like one of the big six or whatever, you know?

I mean, there's pro, there's, I mean there's the World Cup for downhill skiing.

Like that's a real professional sport.

But you're also not gonna get into the World Cup at 28, so, right.

Like, you kind of, Yeah, no, I mean, I think, I think golf is, even tennis is a interesting shout.

after a certain point, right?

And Ryan Blaney, like by Alex Ryan Blaney started last and finished second.

So that was impressive from your cap champion.

Um, but yeah, I'm just excited because racing now is like going right?

We've got Super Bowl this weekend, weekend after is Daytona 500, you know, we say we already had re Rolex, then we got St.

Pete coming, we got Australia coming, we got Sebring coming.

Like once we get to the beginning of March, we're just rolling and I just cannot wait.

when the Clash was playing, I turned it on.

We're in Sebring in 11 days, like next week's episode, we can literally talk about like next week we're driving race cars, the preseason, we're driving Indy cars.
