An EV is an electric car. Instead of buying gas, you charge it—usually at home or at public chargers. The big question is whether electric cars make sense for your lifestyle and budget.
Concept
charging (instead of gas)
With an EV, you don’t stop at a gas station. You plug it in to charge, and that can be at home or on the road. How easy that is for you day-to-day is the real deciding factor.
The hosts are essentially debating “polarizing styling”—design choices that divide opinions, often making a car stand out even if many people dislike it. Their comments suggest that the new Nissan Juke’s design is so extreme it becomes a talking point rather than a universal crowd-pleaser.
They’re talking about how car companies tease a new car with a cover, then reveal it dramatically. The joke is that the reveal didn’t make the car look any better.
Lag time just means there’s a delay between planning something and actually seeing it in the car. Even if the company wants to change things quickly, development and approvals take time.
Think of a technical director as the top engineering decision-maker. They help steer how the car is designed and built, but changes can take time to reach the cars you see on the road.
The design pipeline is basically the queue of work the company is already doing. Even if leadership changes, they often can’t instantly stop and start over without delaying cars.
“Badges” are the brand/model nameplates on a vehicle’s exterior. The host suggests the company is changing branding (badge swaps) rather than making deeper design improvements, which can be a sign of financial or development pressure.
Finance offers are deals that help you pay for the car over time, often with lower interest or better monthly payments. It’s a sales tactic used when a model needs help moving inventory.
Design language precedent means today’s styling decisions can influence what the brand looks like in the future. If the company commits to a certain look, it often repeats it across multiple upcoming cars.
They’re talking about the Nissan Patrol, a big SUV that’s built for rugged use. The conversation focuses on the newer interior and how Nissan’s engine lineup is changing (V6 coming, V8 being phased out).
A V6 is an engine with six cylinders arranged in a V shape. In this conversation, they’re saying a V6 version is coming, and that it may replace the bigger V8.
A V8 is an engine with eight cylinders arranged in a V shape. The hosts are talking about how Nissan’s SUV lineup might move away from the V8 once the V6 version is available.
They’re saying EV sales are growing really fast—so more people are buying fully electric cars than before. When that happens, it usually means more EVs on the road and more companies pushing EVs harder.
BYD is a big Chinese company that makes electric cars. The point they’re making is that BYD has a lot of control over production and shipping, which can help them deliver cars more reliably.
They’re talking about a company controlling its own shipping instead of relying on other transport companies. If you can move cars reliably, you’re less likely to have delays when lots of people want to buy EVs.
They’re saying don’t buy an EV just because it’s cheap right now. You also need to think about whether you’ll be able to get it serviced and repaired later, and whether the warranty will actually be honored.
They’re talking about the danger of buying something that won’t be supported later. If parts and service aren’t available, the car can become hard to fix and hard to sell.
Company
XPANEP
They’re using XPANEP as a cautionary story. The company ran into trouble, and customers had problems getting promised money back and getting warranty issues handled.
Administration/receivership is a legal process used when a company can’t pay its debts. In this situation, financiers can take control of inventory and operations, which can disrupt customer support, warranty handling, and parts supply.
Cash-back incentives are time-limited promotions tied to purchase or delivery. The hosts use the example to show that if the importer/financier situation changes, customers may struggle to get promised cash-back paid out.
A warranty is the promise that if something breaks, the company will pay to fix it. They’re saying that if the seller/importer disappears, it can become unclear who will actually pay for repairs.
Concept
parts that you have to keep in the country
The hosts are referring to regulatory or contractual obligations that require parts to be stocked/available within a country. They’re suggesting that if an importer pulls out, those rules may or may not be enforced in practice, affecting long-term repairability.
They’re saying there are a lot of new electric car brands showing up quickly. The concern is that not all of them may be equally reliable or supported long-term, so you should be careful when choosing.
Brand
D
They mention a brand that starts with “D,” but the full name isn’t clear here. If you’re looking into EVs, you’d want to confirm the exact brand/model they mean before making decisions.
MG is a car brand that sells vehicles for less money than many competitors. The hosts are saying it could be a reasonable choice if you want an EV on a budget.
Tire pressure matters because it changes how hard the tires have to work. Too low can waste energy and wear tires faster, and too high can make the car less safe and less comfortable.
Cup holders are the built-in spots for drinks so they don’t tip over while you drive. They help keep the cabin tidy, especially when you’re carrying kids or pets.
“Bacteria resistant” means the car’s interior materials are designed to be harder for germs to stick to. It’s meant to make cleaning easier and keep things smelling fresher.
They’re describing a built-in plastic carrier area in the back of the car. It’s basically a way to transport a pet while keeping the cabin cleaner.
Term
Jacu pussy carrier
They’re talking about a cat carrier built into the car (or designed for that car). It’s meant to keep your cat contained and make it easier to travel with them.
Term
sea through window
They mention a clear window on the pet carrier. It lets the pet see what’s going on and helps you keep an eye on them.
If your employer gives you a car, Australia can tax that benefit. The hosts are saying EVs can sometimes get special tax treatment, which can lower the cost of having the car through work.
Novated leasing is when your work helps you pay for a car through your salary. Because it can use pre-tax money, it may reduce the tax you pay—especially relevant if you’re considering an EV.
When fuel is expensive, it costs more to drive and to run the vehicle day to day. Big trucks often use more fuel, so the price at the pump can hit your budget harder.
Placing a deposit is a common way to reserve a vehicle or secure an allocation, especially when demand is high. If the dealer stops responding, the key issue becomes whether the deposit is refundable and what paperwork/terms were agreed to.
Ford makes a heavy-duty truck line called the “Super Duty.” It’s meant for work—hauling and towing—so it fits the oil-field/jobsite vibe they’re talking about.
The “tray” here is the truck bed/flatbed-style cargo surface used for hauling equipment. The host notes it’s “heavy duty” and “expensive,” which is typical of work-truck trays built to take impacts and abrasion.
Term
king size bed
They’re comparing the tray length to a king-size bed to give you a sense of how big it is. It’s a simple way to picture the cargo space.
“Raptor” is Ford’s off-road-focused truck. The point here is that if you’re trying to haul bigger stuff, you’d usually pick a work truck like the Super Duty instead.
Diesel cars today usually have extra systems to clean up exhaust. AdBlue is one of those systems, so running a diesel isn’t only about buying fuel.
Car
Ford Raptor
The Ford Raptor is a rugged, off-road-focused pickup. They’re using it as a comparison to estimate fuel consumption.
Concept
Reading the tea leaves (market timing for a new diesel launch)
They’re basically saying companies watch the market and try to launch products at the right time. In this case, they think launching a new diesel might be risky if people are moving away from diesel.
The Suzuki Jimny is a small off-road SUV. They’re talking about whether you want the shorter three-door version or the longer five-door version.
Concept
manual vs automatic ("not a proper car, it's not a manual")
They’re talking about whether a car “counts” if it doesn’t have a manual gearbox. Some people prefer manuals because you shift yourself, while automatics do the shifting for you.
A rooftop tent is a tent that sits on top of the car. It’s meant for camping with less setup time and more convenience.
Concept
two-door vs four-door (and rear seats folded into cargo/boot)
The discussion compares two-door and four-door layouts, focusing on how practicality changes with rear seating. Folding the rear seats effectively turns the cabin into more cargo space (the “boot”), which matters for family use and weekend gear.
CKD means the car is shipped mostly as parts to another country, then put together there. It can change how the car is built and sometimes how it feels or weighs.
Even when two variants share an engine, differences in body style (like two-door vs five-door) can lead to different structure, added bracing, and different curb weight. That weight and structural tuning can change how the car feels—especially acceleration and perceived “slowness.”
Power steering helps you turn the wheel with less effort. Without it, steering takes more strength from the driver, especially at low speeds. The hosts are using this to talk about steering feel.
Concept
old school car feel
They’re describing a driving feel that reminds them of older cars. It usually means the car feels more direct and “connected,” with less electronic help. In this case, they’re linking it to steering and overall simplicity.
Hydraulic assisted steering uses a pump-driven hydraulic system to reduce the driver’s effort at the steering wheel. It’s common on older vehicles and can feel different from electric power steering, especially at low speeds and during quick inputs. The hosts mention it in the context of an “old school” feel.
Car
Cadillac Vistique
The Cadillac Vistique is a new electric Cadillac SUV. The hosts are saying it’s meant to compete with other luxury EVs, but it’s priced aggressively and has a very high-end interior.
The Volvo XC90 is a popular luxury SUV. In this conversation, it’s being used as a reference for the kind of buyers and features the Cadillac Vistique is trying to attract.
Captain’s chairs are individual seats with space between them, usually in the back row. They can feel more comfortable, but they also change how many people can sit comfortably.
The Cadillac Escalade is a large luxury SUV made by Cadillac. It’s designed to look impressive and comfortable, with a big, high-end interior for passengers. People mention it because it has a very noticeable, head-turning style.
For an EV, the battery is what determines how far you can drive before needing to charge. The hosts are saying this car’s battery (compared to other markets) means you won’t get as much range as you’d expect.
Driving range is how far the car can go before the battery runs low. The hosts are saying the range isn’t great for a big EV, which could be a dealbreaker for some buyers.
Air suspension is a suspension system that can make the ride smoother by using air instead of traditional springs. In this case, the hosts say it makes the car feel great over bumps.
ISOFIX and top tether are ways to attach a child car seat so it doesn’t move around. The hosts are saying this car doesn’t have those mounts in the third row, which can be a problem for families.
They’re talking about vehicles bought for work use, like rideshare or chauffeur driving. For fleets, the “best” car is usually the one that’s cheaper to run and less likely to be off the road.
They’re comparing the situation to when Nissan brought back the Z sports car. The idea is: a car can look promising, but whether it’s truly great depends on what’s under the skin and how it drives.
They mean people will likely change the car—like adding parts or tuning it—to make it better or more exciting. Some cars are more fun to own if you’re willing to tinker.
They’re saying the car might be complicated under the hood or in its systems. That can make it harder to work on or harder to modify without spending more money.
A CVT is a type of automatic transmission that can smoothly change “gears” without distinct steps. Because it’s designed differently than a normal gearbox, it can be harder to access and work on in the engine bay.
Term
limitations on the transmission
“Transmission limitations” usually means the car’s transmission can’t handle certain demands in the same way, or it’s programmed to protect itself. That can affect how the car drives and what versions are sold.
A limited edition is a special version of a car that only gets made for a short time (or in a set number). When they sell out, you can’t just walk in and buy one like a regular model.
A proving ground is a special track/test area used to evaluate cars. It’s not like normal driving—usually it’s more intense and planned, so it can feel stressful if you’re not ready for that.
Topic
motorshop
This sounds like a car-related event or show they’re going to. It’s mentioned as part of what’s coming up, not as a car tech explanation.
This is a big car event in Beijing where companies show off new cars. The hosts are saying it used to feel more exciting in person, but now it’s more like livestreams and selling.
This points to a broader shift in auto marketing: instead of relying only on in-person reveals, brands increasingly use livestreams and digital events to generate leads and sales. For buyers, that can mean more frequent announcements but less of the “hands-on” experience that traditional shows offered.
Company
Redriven
Redriven appears to be the name of a channel or platform the guest is associated with (likely where the host was “scolling”/scrolling or watching content). In an automotive context, it’s relevant as a media source that shapes how enthusiasts consume car reviews and opinions.

Somehow they made the shootest looking car look even shitter.
Did you see the launch like you may as well have just said, ladies and gentlemen, we give you long term effects of ketamine.
That's what is England like.
The Driver's Show with Paul Marrick and Gordy Waters.
Hey, everybody, welcome to the Driver's Show. My name is
Gordon and this is my fat little compadre Pablay. We
use our full names for taxation reasons.
I have a selection of Dorito's beef jerky and grain waves from your little shop down there.
Yes, and he is eating them straight from Donna's belly button.
I see you are sniffing up sniffing those crumbs too.
Just offer a butt check, which was weird.
How are you?
Yeah? Good, it's been a hot minute.
I know, it's just been very busy, I think for both of us for different reasons.
Yeah, you've just lost your job.
I'm not destiny.
That was your colleague.
Yes, we can't talk about this, by the way, for Alice god, you think we were in legal ship before.
We definitely can't talk about this stuff now you I definitely can't. Yeah, but yeah, good times and great classics.
That is probably where I'm eating.
The right age bracket.
How dare you?
Yeah? Sorry, I'm trying to drop the kgs and oh
my god, I got I've got a wild story to tell you. Actually it's nothing about cars. But my brother
was in the surf last weekend on the Sunshine Coast, just doing a bit of what do you call it when you jump through the waves, like body body boarding, bodysurfing, and he broke his neck?
Oh my god? Yeah, is he okay?
Well yeah, but like he went to he got he had to be choppered to the Sorry, shouldn't be laughing.
They had to chop her into a hospital. I'm only
laughing because he made.
The news up there. Oh my god.
And then he said, a seventy year old man, is it a critical condition?
How old is he?
He's like forty eight. He's lived a hard life like Messelle.
Oh god, they just assumed because most people would just get up and.
Yeah, actually kudos telling him like he after this happened?
When was this?
He walked up the beach.
It was last literally last weekend, and he walked sort of out of the water and then he just sort of collapsed down and then life savers came and then he walked to his car and he collapsed again. And
then the next thing, you know, the ambulance chopper has come and got him, and he went to you know, the hospital and stuff like that there and they sort of did scans, but it's you know, the hospitals when you're regional. Apparently this one was very good. But then
he went down here and they did more scans because they're like, do we have to operate all that?
And yeah, apparently he became he.
Was he was millimeters away from becoming a quadriplegic. Yeah, yeah, which.
Oh and I mean, this is why I don't exercise.
Yeah, this is why I don't take my shirt off.
Wow's there's a few other reasons, cord order. There's a
few health and safety issues, mainly for the public. I
once took my shirt off and a woman actually died of horniness.
That's true story.
I'm just gonna eat this grainway when I do, we should get a call from Donner. By the way, you
should give her a call. We'll do it, and we'll
save that call for the end of the show. Don't
say anything, just keep fucking eating. Oh exciting news though,
very exciting news has come out this week. There is
finally a car uglier than the Kia Tasmin. Yes, I
am talking about the new Nis and Duke. Oh yeah,
it's unfortunate, isn't it. Do you know what's hilarious is
did you see the launch where they've got the curtain over the car and.
The lights is all this build up.
Ladies and gentlemen, we give you, and then they take the curtain off, and then everyone's like, it's like you may as well have just said, ladies and gentlemen, we give you long term effects of ketamine.
Because that's what his thing looked like.
What the fuck were they deciding?
Yeah, I think if you haven't seen it, immediately look it up because it is it looks.
Like something from a judge like Judge Dread.
Yeah, and look at this is the thing right Listen.
They're kind of in a spot and you either need to do something extraordinary or just go out of business.
And I think they're they're trying the extraordinary thing. But
I don't know if it will work.
Well, yeah, I guess they've had to throw something at it, but fuck, they really.
Threw everything at it. Everything.
Hey, let's like, let's make those wheels look like spiderwebs that are fucking come from some weird American music festival.
It was just the weirdest thing ever.
Yeah, it's I just love how they like they really have to be credited to make Somehow they made.
The shittest looking car look even shitter.
But it's old ladies that buy them. Yeah, maybe they
love looking a bit like they're twenty three when they're eighty.
Yeah, yeah, Jesus Christ. Futuristic doors. I'll get their bloody
the bottom of their tits caught in.
This is the thing, right, All of this stuff has lag times. So the guy that's now in charge used
to be their technical director. Really good guy knows cars,
loves cars. This car was designed when he was not
in charge of the whole thing. So for him to
have effect and change, there's probably still another couple.
Of years left.
So he's got to get everything that's been sitting in the pipeline.
The just go just get it out the door. Let's
fix this later because you can't start from scratchingings. They
will have done all the engineering work on it, the design work, so he's got his work cut out for him.
But you've got to keep the company afloat for another couple of years to clear out all that stuff.
So it's.
And you'll get the Navara I mean, Navara is a prime example of not caring. Yeah, they've just taken a
try and swap some badges and they're already doing finance offers and the thing and.
Put it with different Yeah.
So yeah, I think they're in big trouble and they need to hurry up with the clearing out stuff thing.
Yeah.
Yeah, to be interesting to see where they go with that, because I sort of look at that and I go, well, that's now, because it's so bold, it's probably going to set the precedent for the rest of their design language for the next few years.
Exactly. That's the problem. Mmm, more of that to come.
What's next up with them? Like, what's what's what are
we looking for next?
Well, logically you've got to think that X trail. It's
been out for a little bit of time now, so that look, that's we'll see.
You might have a bit of an idea.
I'm not sure what else they got coming. Patrol was
just launched, Navarro was just launched.
What else do they see and Patrol's is that the new one with the really good updated interior.
Yeah, but that the new V six version still is in Australia.
Oh okay, they got rid of the Warrior, didn't.
They like the V eight They will when the V six comes.
I love that we're doing a podcast and you still can't stop stuff in your face and chips.
No, So the V six is coming, yeah, and at that point they'll kill the V eight.
What a time?
Speaking of what a time?
Yea.
As we speak now.
I'm currently putting down a mortgage on a full tanker Patrol.
Even worse if you're driving a diesel. Yeah, but yeah
it is. It is crazy out there. And last month's
sales figures for electric cars fully electric cars basically doubled in terms of the sales, So there's there's been a huge increase in people wanting an electric car. BYD has
a boat and they literally run their own boat.
They have a giant factory in China that is a Trive factory.
But the important thing is they run their own boats.
So they don't have any shipping problems. They've just loaded
a ship with thirty thousand cars. They normally send about
ten thousand to Australia. Got thirty thousand cars coming.
So you're going to see a lot more Chinese cars on the road and a lot more people driving electric cars. Now,
is it the right choice? I mean, as we stand
today when we record this, this should be over in the next month.
Because if it's not, you'd hope it's going to be over within the next part.
Yeah, if it's not, the car you drive is going to be the least of our problems because we're not going to have transport for food that we eat and.
A litany of other things.
You're going to have ironically coal for the electric car you've just bought, So there's going to be a lot of problems there. So buying an electric car just because
it's a little expensive at the moment isn't a smart idea unless you were already going to do it and you've already done your research. Because a lot of people
with knee jerk reactions will go and buy the cheapest thing they can or the wrong thing because it was in stock and available and it's in stock and available for a reason, you might end up with a car in five years time you can't get rid of, you don't have parts for, you can't service.
Prime example of this was XPANEP.
So just overnight they basically the Australian division went into administration or receivership, not so entirely short the differences between the two, but basically the financier came and said, we're going to take possession of the cars that you have on dock at the moment. So these are cars that
were meant to be sold to customers. The customer Facebook
group had had now for a couple of months issues with customers saying, oh, has anyone got their five grand cash back? Has anyone got these warranty claims sorted? So
for a little while now they've had issues with actually being able to operate and use this company because this has all been brewing in the background. So it appears
that xpen Global wants to take over the importership because at the moment is just run by a subsidiary.
Ye like a private importer.
So to do it they've strong armed someone because they've now taken possession of the loans that were kind of on top of these cars coming into the country. Okay,
it's fine, you'll end up with a solution. Xping is
a massive company. The parent company isn't going out of business.
But the question is who's honoring the cash back, who's honoring all the warranty claims.
Does that sit with.
The previous guys that are now out of business or does it sit with Xping. So this is just a
prime example of why you shouldn't rush out and buy something because it's got five grand off and free servicing.
Is you end up in a situation where if they decide to pull out of the country, they are going to respect any rules that we have about parts that you have to keep in the country. I don't think
that even happens at the moment. So yeah, it is
just it is worth just being careful.
Yeah, it's an amazing one.
And because we're being flooded with all these ev brands who really kind of have to the average Joe blow is kind of going to go, oh, they look good, that looks good. That's a good price, let's go with here,
and and that's a fair enough assumption. But yeah, they've
really got to be vigilant on what they're picking. You'd
want to sort of go with companies that have been here already for a couple of years. I think by
D is obviously a good option. MG is probably a
good option if they're going to go down the cheaper end, do you know what I mean?
You've got options there and it's worth considering as well.
You know, yes, fuel is expensive at the moment, but have a think about how you're consuming it. And no,
this is not a paid sponsorship.
Is this where you give us the fucking elbow like, well, I think you should do is car Paul when you need to and you know, make sure your tires are inflated.
How bad anyway, I've got to catch my jet to another country.
Yeah, yeah, exactly, I'm going to fucking take my private jet to another country. How about you stop fucking jacking
up some of the dirtiest fuel in the fucking world and start like topping up the reserves. Slow mo ah,
very good, I see what you I just made that up on the spot.
So yeah, look, it is worth just considering basic stuff like check your tire pressures. That is an easy win
because if you're underinflated, you're using more fuel. If you're overinflated,
you're using less fuel, but it's not as safe. You've
got a placard inside your door that tells you the tire pressure is near to run if you've got like one hundred kilos worth of random crap in your car, get rid of that as well.
Can you? Can you talk to my wife about that?
She's fucking classic. Actually it's so funny because I'm driving
my mom. I should be saying this because my father
in law listens to this podcast, but I'm driving my mother in law's car at the moment. She's very similar
to my wife. Like anything that is storage space she
will like and I'm talking cup holders as well, she will manage to staff things in there as if we are about to go into some sort of another war, Like well, well, she's probably the smartest one of us all because there is like, oh my god, she's got like a water supply in the back of that car.
That is hilarious.
Yeah, water is heavy, so I'd get rid of that, man.
But yeah, refracts ruth pods.
These things will massively add to your fuel consumption.
So instead of going and spending fifty grand on a new car that isn't going to be worth it anything because the company goes out of business. Just do the
simple stuff and you'll find that you will actually spend less on fuel.
Oh you've got boring.
So I'm just talking about fucking rooffraction, saving fuel and just just trying to eat. Do you know? Got my
got my first taste of jacob hilarious affordable car in the EB saying I reckon, it's actually quite good. It's
quite a good looking car. Interior looks really cool and
on the outside as well, the interior is quite a funny one.
By the way. This was the Jacu J five.
I think around about thirty five bacoe. What I love
is they've kind of gone down this theme of it's a really good car if you've got pets and or kids.
Because the interior, which.
I've never even heard of before, but they've got this thing where it's like it's bacteria resistant and it's easy to wipe down. And I don't know if your press
car had this, but I opened the back of mine and I had this weird cage in the back.
I was like, what is this inside?
And then in the cage they had this plastic pod and I'm like, hang on, and it was all branded Jacob right, and I'm like, what is that plastic pod?
And it was one of those plastic pods you know that you see like Japanese girls put on their back carry like a backpack and put their cat in the back. Yeah,
and that was like it was like a Jacu pussy carrier.
Oh interesting, yeah, most yeah.
So it's good if you want to have if you want to if you want to have your puss on the go and you want to cover over it as well.
I did have a cheeky little sea through window. So
given a bit of a cheeky looking at your pulse, I jking for doing that. I support them. I quite
enjoy that. I quite enjoy a car that's a bit
of a pulse value in the back. But look, thirty
five grand, great interior grade design. I uctually it was
really impressed with this car. I mean, it doesn't do
it kind of does what it says on the box.
It's going to It's very much a great a to b get around town carry your pussy kind of car, do you know what I mean?
But that's an example of a car that you don't have to spend a lot of money on Cherry is the parent company great enormous company, Yeah, big presence in Australia.
That is a safe bet. And thirty five grand I
mean even.
If you lose fifty percent of the value, it's barely yeah, barely that much of a big deal.
And those cars as well.
If you do go down the path of an EV, make sure you do your research on novated leasing because that fringe benefits tax exemption is still there.
A lot of people don't understand.
If you get a car from your work, you have to pay fringe benefits tax on any private usage of it, whereas there's an exemption now for electric vehicles under the luxury car tax threshold, which is like eighty nine or something for an EV, So it means that you can have an electric car that is subsidized by pre tax salary.
You're reducing your taxable income. If you're going to buy
a car anyway, then why not. But yeah, just don't
rush into it if you don't have to.
As a motoring journalist, what's the what's the most spirited little tax return that you've managed to tax deduction you've managed to score yourself? What do you mean, Well, you
know we do a bit of this and that.
I don't know what you know? Yeah, what are you doing?
Got it? That's a twitch?
Yeah, okay, just going yes, twitch again on video?
Just getting his.
Tax return at a Christmas party. What's kittens?
It's one of those bags that was in the jaku was it?
Got it? Yeah?
Okay, it's just dance class that we did for the team.
No girls allowed.
Who's I can't tell if this is Sonya because it's spelt with like an x.
It must be. It must be a new Chinese ev
brain coming to.
Sounds like, yeah, it must be rough around the Yeah, speaking of like expensive fuel, Are you still thinking you'll get a super duty?
Well?
I think I've got one in order. The dealers just
ghosting me. Oh, I know what's going on. It's like,
just am I Do I have a car?
Do I not? Why is no one?
That's why is it so hard to just buy? I
have money to give you for a car?
Just respond to me.
Wow, so you haven't heard anything from the dealer. That's
not a good sign.
And I put a deposit down like a year ago.
I reckon, yeah, so you have to get that back.
I had the I had the super Duty the other week and I had the single gab the rual farmer's car.
You know what, you know what it reminds me of the Super Duty reminds me of have you have you seen Land Man?
Yes?
I love what a show. I love it. We're obsessed
with it.
It's like one of the few shows me and my missus can sit down and like thoroughly enjoy, Like she loves fucking I don't know what she loves the Housewives of Summer House shit or something, but yeah, this is like one of those shows where I'm like, oh my god, this is incredible, and I think they're drive around in super Duties in that show.
Yeah, they've got the real ones, but yeah, that is what this is modeled on. It's just like a mini
version of it, and they're just you know, the f series.
Super Duties are proper that miss about and they've been doing those for such a long time.
It's quite funny because they're obviously driving around Texas on highways and also like oil rigging site, so it's a little bit of a different one. But this, this Super Duty,
this single cab, fucking big big tray on it. It's
like you can fit a king size bed on it.
But it really is. I mean it's it's not something
like if you've got a raptor and you want to get something bigger, you wouldn't go for this single cab tray of this. You just it's really a trady slash
farmer's car. I think it's overkill for anything else.
Yeah, one hundred percent, and the tray is expensive. It's
heavy duty, but I mean I'll scratched the shit out of the one where you had pushing a fiberglass ladder on it, So I don't know how heavy duty this thing is.
But good to see Paul Pablo there is really trading these press cars.
Well well, it's just like I'll put a ladder in it, and then I get the ladder out, I'm.
Like, what the hell has happened to this? And it's
scratched like all the way through to.
The it's an aluminum tray. Really fucking hell, it was yours?
Mine was painted black?
Oh yeah, now mine was like your full alba.
Mine was painted black. But it's like the paint was
just like.
Oh yeah, I would you know, I've never even seen one painted black?
Yeah, god, yeah.
Yeah, I quite liked it. But the I guess the
one you would be getting is in the tray. One
you're getting like the built in body tray and a dual cab hopefully, hopefully Jesus, that's going to well, is it going to cost you a bit? Is it going
to cost you more than the rap Did you reckon in fuel?
Well?
Yeah, it uses about as much fuel as a Raptor, it just diesel, which is more expensive. Right now, I
just think that they've det you in the engine it needs ad blue.
Do you reckon?
They're having some issues with this car.
I think they're having issues moving it because I've seen heaps around. We get really big discounts on cars through
our marketplace team and people buy cars through us, So I don't think they'll have issues with the XLT so that's going to have more features and then the Star side version. But yeah, this one doesn't seem to be
rushing out the door.
No, I thought they would have. I thought they would
have brought in there what do we now were don't at the end of it all. I thought they would
have brought in the new slightly look slightly updated Wild Track as well.
Yeah, but you know what I reckon, They're reading the tea leaves. You don't want to be pushing some new
diesel thing right now. If you're going to launch it,
you'd be like, I just give that a mouth.
Yeah, I still want one.
Yeah? Interesting, Oh guess what? I guess what? Gordon jumped in. Finally,
little Jimney too.
He comes Gordon to a three door or a five door?
Well both okay? An your order order? Yeah, but no,
fuck you. I liked it.
I like and I don't care who who has it going?
I thought the auto was fine. Maybe I've got ship
to do, I've got places to be. Might you would
be in that camp that would be all it's not a proper car, it's not a manual.
I'm just in the camp of you go to a hill and that auto just does not work.
Yeah, but I can't also be fucked with like a handbrake to McCall it.
Did you have room on the palm rec pussy bag?
Did you hang it off the spare time?
It was too big? It was a big old bussy
do you know what.
I was surprised that one, just how much because I was sort of thinking this would be a great fun car, like a car to get away with on a weekend, do some sand stuff, do some like dumb camping and one of those rooftop tens. It's just a fun weekend car.
Also around Sydney especially, it's a great one with car parks and just fucking getting around town. And you don't
have to care about it, do you know what I mean?
You can just chuck the kid in the dog whatever.
It's fine. And I was surprised I would I thought
I would like the four door more than the two door, but I'm definitely a two door fan. Yeah, and I'm
surprised how differently they drive too.
Yes, one's built in India, one's built in Japan.
Oh.
The Indian built one, I think is a c k D.
Which is a complete knockdown where they send all the parts over and they whack it back together. I think
they're different structurally as well, and definitely a weight difference between them.
The same engine, but just much heavier in the five door.
Yeah, yeah, it looks so much slower.
My dad was thinking of buying one for my mum and I said, go go the two door, and he just in his head thought it had two seats in it.
I'm like, no, it's got seats in the back because they've got a dog. I'm like, but you guys, you
guys don't even need those back seats. You fold them
down and that's your boot. Like it's actually it's pretty good.
But yeah, it's really shocked on how different those cars are.
One is definitely heavier, not as responsive, obviously, I'm talking about the four door. The two door is just great.
It's so good. It's just it's nimble. It's a simple,
stripped down just a it's a you know, there's no power steering. It's just I don't know, it just feels
like a real pure old school car's.
Got a hydraulic assisted steering.
Yeah, technically bank and whatever.
That's why I reckon I need to bring the FJ here, the little Toyota thing there was at the Tokyo Motor Show, the little FJ.
Oh oh, yes, of course, sorry, yeah, the baby FJ.
Yeah, they need to bring that here because it's got a much more modern interior, similar concept, slightly punch your engine, you know, based on the highlight chassis.
Like it's yeah, yeah, that didn't look like the true FJA though, No, it's like a mini version of it.
I don't know. About that one.
What was I going to say that was I had fucking I had a thought in my head, in my brains.
But yeah, I don't know, Jimmy, it's a good car.
What do you make of him?
Yeah, look, they're fine, but I just think it needs to be a manual. And I understand there's a convenience
with the auto, but the first hill you get to, you will and if you have people in the car and it will be through the board. The thing is
screaming and it's going nowhere.
Yeah. I did notice that, like going like one hundred
and ten on a highway with.
The stag if it's windy, it's not great. So they're
fine for things, but they've started increasing the price. You know,
Suzuki is just in trouble in Australia there. You know,
they had the Froncs that have the safety issue.
They've got the Ebatara coming out, which feels a bit late to the party. But you know, like Zuzuki doesn't
really have I think, like that much else going on apart from like the genies are real Colt.
That's the problem.
People who have them love them.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Hey, tell me about your what's what's that Cadillac.
Yes, I drove the Cadillac Vistique.
Tell me about your deeck.
Yes, it's it is. It's interesting.
So it's basically a competitor to the Volvo X ninety and the Yenda Ironic nine, except they've priced it really sharply.
It's like one hundred and sixteen grand fully electric and significantly cheaper than the Volvo. In fact, it's significantly cheaper
than what they sell this for overseas, so we get a really sharp price with it. Seeah, fully electric. It's enormous.
It does zero tow one hundred and four point two seconds.
It's got captain's chairs, it is an incredible interior. It's
got like a thirty three inch display that sort of wraps around the driver. It's got like in built Google
apps and all this sort of stuff.
Very sort of high ended premium.
Looks amazing to it kind of looks like an escalade, so it really turns heads.
Brilliant looking thing. In terms of downsides, the battery.
Is like ten kilo what hours less than what they have overseas, So basically your driving range realistically is maybe three fifty to four hundred plays, which really unacceptable for a car that size because it's quite inefficient, and then in addition to that, just had a couple of tech glitches as well with it that were a little bit frustrating.
But outside of that, I mean it's got air suspension, rides beautifully. It is is a really schmik looking car.
So I reginon they'll sell a few of them. There's
not a huge amount of demand in that segment. They've
missed a trick as well with seating arrangement for kids, because it's got the captain's chairs in the second row.
They have ISO fix and top tether, but you don't have ISO fix or top tenther in the third row.
So it means if you get kids in the second row, you then have to put adults in the third row, which.
Is which is quite cramped.
Oh yeah, So I just think that they should really be offering top tenther in the third row because and you whack the kids back there, adults can stretch out in the second row and.
Box your uncle.
Yeah, that's a miss and they're not obliged to do that though legally are they.
I think it's just ISO fix and top ten for the second row. I think is.
But most people that have a three row suv will have some form of child restraint in the third row because your families are buying them, like you.
Know, you're going to have seeding.
So these cars are like if you look at like fleet buyers and stuff like that, Uber drivers, drivers you know who do the chauffe ring and all that sort of stuff.
Actually, I mean to say, my I've got a driver who just bought.
The the x Pang, like like a van, like an electric van.
Oh you mean the Zeka.
I think it was the x Pang because it was the He was talking about how they've just gone out of business and he bought like a van. Oh right,
yeah from them, the van. Yeah I didn't either, but
he's like, oh yeah, I'm not too worried. Okay, just
get me to the fucking x pin X nine.
I think it is intelligent mpv. Oh that looks cool.
Why would you buy that? Okay, So I get buying
the suv because you know people buy why would you buy that?
Well, he goes around.
He's he's got he's got a big fleet of like giant vans, you know what I mean, Like, yeah, like the big community vans.
So he wanted an electric one. I don't know why
pang five.
Different other electric ones that people have heard of.
I think you've got a good deal on it.
It looks like it.
Hey, you know what's exciting is in twenty twenty six we can go down to like Colfield train station, just like we did in the old days and buy some drugs in the brand new prelude.
Oh why would you?
Oh?
I see yes, yes.
What do you think for sixty five grand? I reckon
that is? That is an ask?
Yeah.
I think they've priced it on the steeper side for.
What it is.
I think if it had more guts about it, I was a bit disappointed that it's not exactly a type are Doer.
I think it.
Looks kind of cool.
I mean it looks good, look good.
I think it sort of sits in that camp of remember when Nissen relaunched the Z or the z yep.
Kind of sits in that where I think it had a lot of potential but they just didn't put enough into it.
Yep. Yeah, I think that.
You know, I've got the engine from the Civic but not the type are No and it's like, you know, I drive it briefly in Japan.
And yeah it was it was fine.
But sixty five grand that gets you a lot of car m you get a GTI, you know, there's yeah, a lot of stuff you can buy for sixty five grand.
Well, it's probably it's a bit bigger than a GTI.
Marginally, it's like still a squished, very squishy in the second row, two door, isn't it. Yeah, So I don't know.
I think it'll have a market, but I don't think it's going to be running out the door.
Yeah, I mean, I'm sure if they I'm sure this could take off a little bit where people will mod it.
Yeah, you'll have enthusiasts that will get behind it. But
you know, it's fairly sort of complex setup. It's a
naturally aspirated engine, but it's got like a continuously variable transmission makes it a little difficult to get in there and do like a huge amount with it. You have
talk limitations on the transmission, you know, it's the reason why the civic type is manual.
Hey, what's going on with that? By the way, they've
taken it like they're not selling it.
I think they're working on like an update to that.
It's my understanding and I think it'll get an auto as well at some.
Point, right, because as of now, you can't into a showroom and buy one.
Oh right, yeah, I know that's like a limited edition version. Yeah,
that's the one they've got on sale.
Yeah.
No, like I think that's that's literally like once they sold out, they sold out.
Yeah weird. He just kicks back.
And siting that whole packet, getting up your protein fix.
I prefer a possy bag. M what do you what
do you got coming up? Do you have a Ferrari
out there in the car park? That was interesting?
But I literally just picked it up, So I can't really tell you.
How you're going to drive that tojit a long.
I'm not going to drive to the proving ground tomorrow, okay, and then I'll return it because it's too stressful.
Is it? It's stressful about it?
I'm parking it looking after it. Yeah, well headaches I
don't need, yeah, especially in Melbourne. Fucking hell.
Yeah. So what have we got. I'm going to Beijing
on Saturday. Yeah, for the motorshop.
So you get aded to the mates which over in Beijing about three hundred billion too much?
Yep? Yeah, So for the Beijing motor show. So I'm
really excited.
You're going to do a fat tool with Cherry as well, so that it'll be good.
I'm looking forward to it.
Is that your first factory tour done? Is you're going
to prop me a little factory?
Yeah?
See there it is, so yeah, it should be it should be good, looking forward to it.
What are you looking forward to it? At this motor show?
What do you think they're bringing out?
Show was amazing when I was blown away with how much stuff there was there and everything that was going on.
So I'm just excited to see that again because motor shows are just dead.
Is this the one where they stand in front of their friends?
It's all just like doing live streams trying to sell cars, like just hordes of them.
What else?
Okay, I think we're pretty much fucking coming everything. God,
this is an efficient episode.
Well aside from you taking thirty minutes to set everything up.
Well yeah, when I had the guest fell in boys Adam and Alex, I mean fucking did they waffle on, especially Adam Jesus Christ. It took him a bloody lot
like I would make some point. And when you think
you're like, oh yeah, that's a pretty good point. I
just made no, no, no, no, Adam.
Knows what's best.
Thank you, Thank you Adam for Redriven for scolling me for forty five minutes. He did make a good point,
a lot of good points.
But whatever, you get Trevor back on.
Oh yeah, we should get We should get Trevor, John Cardogan and Adam from Redriven and put him into like one of those big inflatable pools full of like ky, like.
When two Ais start talking to each other. Yeah, they
just keep going and never stop. It would be like
a twelve hour episode.
Can you imagine Adam and like next like John Kadogan.
When you look at those two, it's like when you see on YouTube, like you know, when you see like a chicken that makes an unlikely friend in like a.
Cow or something like that. That's that's there. It's cute.
Have you had a call from Donna lately?
Check? No?
Nothing?
Okay, hang on, let's let's let's you texted her early.

We could do that. That'd be a lot of fun.
So when's that happening.
Well, I've got to do a deal with a removallest company again because I did a deal last time when I moved house recently and that did not go so well for you.
Yeah, it did not go so well.

About this episode
Paul and Gordy kick off with chaos, snacks, and a grim surf story before tearing into Nissan’s latest “worst looking car” reveal—arguing the design is so over-the-top it signals bigger corporate trouble. The conversation pivots to EVs: rising sales, shipping of Chinese EVs, and why you shouldn’t rush into the cheapest deal without checking parts, service, and company stability (they cite the Xpane Global fallout). They also cover fuel-saving basics, a Jacob J5 EV for pet/kid-friendly practicality, and a range of test-drive talk including a Cadillac EV, a Ford Super Duty order drama, and the Jimny (manual vs auto).
Paul and Gordie have sat down, with snacks (obviously), and chat all things automotive…sometimes.
We talk the worst looking car in the world, soaring petrol prices, the soaring popularity of EVs, Gordie jumps in a Jaecoo J5 with the weirdest accessory ever.
It's a fun episode, please share, like and review.
