LIVE
This is a professional radio, gentlemen.
And it's front wheel drive.
Sorry, have you got anyone you want to thank?
Just myself.
And now we do the after hours.
General, what would you go for?
They see us in there.
Because it's not a super car.
It is.
It's not.
Ordinary perfection comes in the form of two letters, A and U.
Long live my LTD.
Welcome to Car Talk.
It's Tuesday night here on 8.9 North West FM.
It is us.
We're back for 2026.
Me, Maddie J in the studio with Mr Chad DeBell,
Mr Alamedee Singh,
online with Mr Edward Bunting,
Mr Scotty Doe Johnson,
and the one and only Scottish correspondent, David Prince.
How are you, gentlemen?
Cheety all the new Happy New Year.
Happy New Year, everyone.
Yeah, 2026.
What's up?
Hello, everybody.
We are back with Scott about 2026.
What was that, Ed?
I said Scott sounds so motivated about 2026, not.
Another year.
Nothing special.
Some people didn't make it to this year.
The fact that you're alive, that's special.
So, you know, start getting a little bit more upbeat, please.
I'm pretty sure like 90% of people who have ever been alive
are no longer alive, Ed.
Exactly.
So the fact that Scott's here for another year,
that's a pretty good thing.
A big year, Scotty, a big year, Scotty.
Yeah, he got married and that.
It's on my fridge.
It's on my fridge.
It's coming up.
It's coming up.
It's a big year for you, Scotty.
It's a big year.
You've made me remind me of one of my mates who's a smoker,
and he says to me,
well, when people say to him,
oh, you should stop smoking.
He's like, well, you know what the stat is for people that,
he's like 100% of people that don't smoke still die.
I'm like, oh, well, that's like,
you've kind of got a point there.
You can't argue with those facts.
You can't argue with those facts.
Well, we tell you,
tell the facts you're on car talk, don't we, really?
Tune into Fact Talk.
It is good to be back, though, guys.
We've had a few weeks off.
We did our little Christmas special,
which in which Chad had no idea about any of the Christmas
related questions.
It's all the Reindeers now.
He knows all the Reindeers now.
We'll get him tattooed, so he won't forget.
I'll be ready for next year.
Please tell me there was one about the Liberty Blitzen.
No.
There should have been.
Every time I see one, I think of Reindeers.
You are Liberty Donna.
Good to see you all.
Great to be back for another year with you, awesome gentlemen.
Start with David Prince.
David Prince, now you're our Scottish correspondent.
You are in the Scottish...
Were you in the Highlands there, technically?
No, just out of Edinburgh.
Just out of Edinburgh, okay.
We'll be back in a couple of weeks.
We'll be back next week.
We had a great time.
It's very cool over here,
considering what you guys are going through.
I think it's going to hit positive degrees today.
It didn't yesterday.
Positive degrees.
Yeah, yeah.
It was minus three the night before last,
and got to minus one yesterday.
But clear, blue, sunny skies.
Yeah, as poor Australians,
well, this poor Australian in particular,
seems to catch every little lurky thing that's going around.
Yeah.
I'm a second cold of the trip so far,
but it is one of these.
That's a second one on the same holiday.
Yeah.
I'm cringing enough scotch, David.
Yeah.
You are whiskey.
You are in Scotland, David.
It is expected that you do such things.
Well, I did actually do a history of gin,
in the lost close of the Royal Mile the other day,
which was awesome.
You're a gin drinker now, David.
It appears I am.
And I'm doing another one tomorrow,
at the Edinburgh Gin Company,
which is about how it's made.
So, here, looking forward to that.
Car wise, oh, gosh.
I was going to say it's a bit of wasteland,
but it's probably more the time of year.
There is not a lot on the roads,
and people don't take their cars out.
For very good reason.
We picked up a car from Manchester Airport.
They gave us, I booked a Dissen Duke,
just something that size,
just for the two of us, and our luggage.
But we sort of rejigged it a bit.
We wanted to get a car that,
I put Kat down as another driver,
and ended up with a Skoda Kamek,
which is a one-link, five-door hatch,
sort of what they call a small SUV,
but it's pretty low.
But the cracking little car,
it just eats up the miles.
It's very economical.
Had 200 miles on the clock.
But we were somewhere yesterday,
heading into the border's area,
just going for a bit of a drive.
There's a truck coming towards us
with flashing yellow lights,
quite slowly.
A line-up of cars behind it.
As we drew level with it,
we passed and I realised it was a gritter,
because they run gritters around the roads.
When the weather's like this,
the temperature's so low,
just to break up the,
so the ice doesn't fall on the road.
Imagine passing a B-double,
sort of head-on,
if it's raining and the spray hits you
like a wave,
the B-double goes past.
Well, this was grit,
sand, salt and everything.
That poor car.
Yeah, I don't know.
Which I thought,
okay, that explains why all the cars
look the way they do here.
Just peppered on the front.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So this brand-new Skoda,
like I'm glad it's the one.
Yeah, anyway, what could you do?
I mean, the same thing you see all the,
you know, around Edinburgh,
there's a bit of money,
so you see, you know,
really nice sort of BMs
and all,
every sort of luxury car
you can imagine around here.
But yeah, they're all absolutely filthy
and, you know, just caked with,
with grit and mud and slush.
So, you know,
so consequently,
you don't see many cool old things
about when we're in Europe.
I think I saw,
I saw a 190E,
I think I said to a photo,
and you did.
Yes.
But I'll be hardly posting any photos of cars
because there's literally not much to buy.
Well, anyway,
Peter, they'll come out to play.
Yeah, no, they wisely keep them.
I did actually post a reel to
CarSpotters Australia
because I did see a car the other day
that I had no idea what it was,
which is pretty confronting for any of us.
You know, you see something,
piece together, something,
turned out was, it was a
reliant imp.
It looked sort of like a,
like a Metra,
you know, one of those Metra
like sort of early SUVs
from the 70s, but it was tiny.
It was like the size of Datsun 1200 Ute.
Turns out,
I must have sent through to you boys as well,
but one of the guys on CarSpotters Australia
identified it,
but I had no idea what it was.
But the fact it's fiberglass
is probably why it survived over here.
Oh, the whole body's fiberglass.
Yeah.
Reliance.
I think the best car for that climate
would be a galvanized moke.
Interestingly, have big, many mokes.
They were broken half
by now.
A couple of mokes, minus three,
or something.
You'd want to be in here,
you'd want your gloves.
I spoke to my sister yesterday, I video-chatted her,
and she's like, look out the window,
there's just snow.
She's in Manchester.
And she's like, it's just a bit cold.
I'm like, do you think?
You've got snow out there.
So then she proceeded
to put the phone on the window sill,
and we were
quite literally laughing, watching a guy
try to take the snow off the car,
and he was struggling to do it, and he was just giving up,
and he was cracking it because he couldn't get into his car.
So we just sat there watching that for a bit.
That was quite funny. Not for him,
but for us more.
We got a bit of a laugh.
So not much in the car front, David Prince?
Not much on the car front, no.
No, sadly.
I'm keeping my eyes peeled.
I did see an awesome panel van
yesterday, I took a photo, I haven't seen it through to yet.
Yeah, cool.
They're a little van, which are pretty cool,
but I also did
the local Honda dealership, of course,
to see and just shake me head
that they had a new Civic hybrid,
which in Australia, I think
is now under $50,000.
I think it's $49,000 for the hybrid.
That car is $72,000
Australian dollars over here.
Oh, geez.
And the Civic Type R,
they had a demo mileage Civic Type R,
literally
under 1,000 miles on the clock,
and it was
92?
Well, that's absurd.
But the cracker,
they sell jazz's handover
for all the older people.
They're very popular with the older demographic.
I don't sell them in Australia,
because that car here
starts at $27,500,
which is
about $51,000.
A lot for a jazz.
Is that going to be one of the cheapest
cars you can buy over there?
Oh, look, there are cheaper cars.
A lot. There's
Dutchiers, obviously.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Chinese cars
are coming through, you see, BYD's
and stuff like that.
Between
$15,000 and $20,000, there's quite a few things.
Lots of stuff that we've never
got, lots of home days we don't get.
Kia's got a whole
seed range over here,
rather than we just got the seed GT for a while,
but there's a whole
variety of wagons and hatches and stuff.
That's cool.
But yeah, so, $15,000 to $20,000,
but most people over here
don't go buy a car that way.
It all comes down to the monthly payment.
It's a little bit different over here.
Oh, by something Lawshawn says
to say hi to you all. I was talking to him yesterday
about cars.
Obviously, Lawshawn,
and he said
he doesn't know anyone that goes
any newer car that goes and actually
pays cash for it. It's all done on this sort of,
like a lease sort of thing,
but a personal lease sort of thing.
Yeah. Okay.
Is it more manageable than
an all purchase or is it
similar sort of situation?
Well,
the sort of
$350 to
£450 a month, so that's
like $700 a month.
People are paying this sort of thing for a brand new car.
Okay.
I suppose that just affected that in somehow.
Having something
still survive. You see crazy things
that like a
you think, how is that even still on the road over here?
You know, so much.
A first gen micro, not even the micro we got
in Australia, but well before that.
Like there's one of those muscle
where you think, far out of house.
It's still on the road, you know.
And that black, last time I was here
I think I said you were found over black fiesta
just around the corner from here. Still there.
Still immaculate.
Not a mark on it.
So, and it's black.
So, yeah, they must love it
to bits.
So I'll keep in reporting of anything
of interest, but as I said, they love a black car.
There's lots of black and grey hatchbacks over here.
Wow, that's very Melbourne.
Melbourne loves black and grey cars.
Yeah, I know, I know.
To come to the same lack
of colour that we have.
Pretty much sadly,
occasionally one of those retina
searing Audi bright green
or, you know,
RS4s
or RS3s.
There's a lot of those around.
That'd be like
200 grand over there, right?
Oh, great prices here.
Oh, yeah.
And is that just the Scottish price?
Or is that consistent across the UK?
I think it's
pretty consistent across the UK.
That's insane.
Yeah.
I mean, I haven't gone around
to lots of other dealerships, but
even, you know, Sean says
new cars here are so expensive compared to Melbourne.
Like a Suzuki Vitara.
There's a Suzuki dealership.
They're sort of low to mid-30s.
Australian dollars.
So you can pick one of those up for mid-20s,
I think, in Australia.
So, yeah, it's interesting.
There seems to be
something that people
will have to spend the money for.
And then, of course, they'd appreciate so quickly
because they're not worth
a lot after a few years on the roads up here
because the MOTs need to be done
after three years
on a new car.
And, yeah,
I mean, all the rust of all
the non
most of the components underneath are treated,
but some cars,
my daughter's got a jazz and
a few of the bits like
that, like this shield
for the cat underneath,
like the mounting
points just rust away, you know, like,
and they've got to replace that sort of thing nearly every MOT.
So, yeah, it's a hard
climate as are
expensive, but also
disposable, too, it seems.
David, have you been on
Facebook marketplace over there?
How so?
No, no, I haven't, actually.
I haven't. Really?
I will be
before I go, though, I can see the time coming.
I have to wait
for the opportunity
where it's actually double,
or it's not going to get to double digits.
I think the forecast for the rest of the week
is still under five degrees every day.
It's always
interesting going on marketplace.
I always do in different locations.
Yeah.
You just think, what's out there?
I was really surprised years ago,
and I was in Tassie, at just how little
there was online.
You know, it's, I mean, it is
sort of a big country town, that island, and
I was just like, wow,
we're spoiled for choice here with just
cars.
So much, yeah.
When my friend was in Darwin,
some years back, and he wanted a car,
and I jumped online and put my location as Darwin,
and I thought, geez, they're either all
really stuffed, or they're just
nothing.
It just was not the choice.
Yeah, you forget how
lucky we are, both with the number
and, as you say, the climate.
I always say to people, Australia
is very kind on cars,
certainly down south.
You know, Queensland's
pretty hard on cars, up north it gets,
the humidity gets them, and the rust
and what have you, but
Melbourne and Sydney,
certainly Melbourne and Adelaide,
and places like that, very
kind to cars really.
As is Canberra, Canberra's probably one of the
best places. And incredibly kind to cars, yes.
It gets very hot and it gets very cold, but there's
no salt. And also the other thing with Canberra
is the roads.
It's a lot newer city,
there's a, anyone's been there,
it's full of roundabouts, there ain't a lot of traffic
lights, so you're not stop, start, stop, start,
there's no traffic.
You're sort of flowing constantly, 90%
of the roads are 70 or 80 kph,
so you're kind of the cars running
at a nice tempo, you know,
a nice flow.
I always joke with that Tarago I've got, that's done
for $21,000 now.
You know, that's a Canberra car, it's probably
equivalent of $200,000,
Melbourne thousand.
Just with the roads and the wear and the climate
and everything.
I'm going to say driving over here is so much better
than Melbourne, like it
flows much better.
Even the simplest
thing, and I have seen some parts
in Melbourne, they're starting to do it, but over
here it's everywhere.
You're coming to these roundabouts that have got
seven exits.
But the road,
but the one you want,
like is written on the road, the lane to be
is written on the road in front of you.
You just select the road you want
and it just all works, it's just incredible.
And everyone indicates as they leave,
as they're leaving the roundabout, which
is fantastic.
So it's,
it flows really, really well.
I wouldn't have any quumps
recommending anybody drive over here if they're coming
over.
It sounds daunting, but a lot of
the bigger roundabouts too have traffic lights.
So you actually
flow around the roundabout
with the traffic lights and you've got the
lane or the road you want to take
is written on the road in front of you
and you just stay in that lane and it just sweeps
onto it, it's brilliant.
And you're on the right side of the road,
you know.
Yeah, that's right, that's right.
Well, it's good to see that you're hopefully
feeling better, David Prince.
After your second bout of
of the sniffles and
I'll just go and have a good cough and then come
back.
Well, but we'll keep going with car
updates.
Welcome back.
Thank you, thank you. Good to see you, my friend.
Happy to be back.
Chillin' with the boys. Chillin' with the boys.
How are you going? I'm doing alright, doing alright.
Took the STI out for a
drive on,
I think it was a Sunday of Christmas.
Battery was flat.
Not unexpected.
And this time it was dead for real.
I put the trickle charger on it.
It wasn't having it.
I'm like, well, good thing I have a battery
here ready to go. So I clunked that one
on, you know, built it down, started
up and then gave it about
five minutes just to equalise.
Probably months and then
went on my way up to Wallin.
Had a pretty good drive, pretty smooth.
And it had like a layer of dust on it.
That was probably half an inch thick.
A lot of that got
swept off as you. Well, it's a lot of that did, but
like everyone could see it driving them.
I was hoping nobody would like walk around and just
wash me on them. Don't you dare ruin that paintwork.
Paintwork's still good underneath.
It's good dust.
It's a protective layer.
I gave that a nice blast off
on the way home.
And that was quite nice. You know, get back into the STI.
Got to get on some boost.
Yeah. Just a little bit as a treat.
I didn't fill up with fresh fuel, so I didn't go too hard.
I'll say it for the
as a treat. So for the next
probably trip, because I think I'm just under half
a tank, I'll fill up with fresh fuel and then have
at it. The D-Max.
So a little while back, I bought
wiper blades for it. When I consulted
the Michelin guide, because
I bought Michelin blades from Costco.
And it said, hey, you need
22s on the
driver's side. I think, yeah.
And then 16 inches on the passenger side.
Which is fine. Grab them.
And they don't quite fit.
Like, what do you mean?
So I've got the D-Max outside. We'll see you on the way out.
Yeah.
Like when they're in the resting position, they're almost
hanging off the windscreen.
Oh, so they're too long. Yeah.
They're a problem. Did you
measure them up to the old ones? Yes.
You compared? So
the passenger side one
is technically the old one was shorter.
But the driver's side one was longer
than what I have gotten.
So the driver one I should have gotten 23 inches
and this one technically maybe 15.
But looking at other guides
it seems that 16 by
22 or 16 by 23 will do.
Or 16 and 23 inches.
And it's just maybe
a few of the places like I looked at
could all super cheap.
And they actually ask you to specify
if you're going to go for the X-Terrain
or the high spec models
because they have the actual
spray and jet on the wipers.
Whereas
I'm assuming the ones I got recommended from Michelin
screw you French bastards
were obviously the ones for the hook type.
Yeah, that makes sense.
So that's probably where my issue is arising.
So I'll probably run these through until they
wear out. I'm a little ashamed
that technically I ran this car
50,000 kms with the one set of wipers.
But I should have probably changed them.
Because in the driver's side corner bit
it was letting go. It was not wiping.
I was like I should have done it, but oh well.
I would have known about it earlier and maybe I could have changed it.
Alan, which car is this on the D-Max?
Yeah, the D-Max.
Hasn't the dealer ever changed the wiper blades
when you've had it serviced? No.
Because Alan always denies.
Don't you dare.
Last service they've changed.
The last service they probably saw
the wiper blades in the back seat
and they're like this guy's not going to go for it.
They're like, yeah, they're right.
That's funny.
But like the funny part is I saw
thanks to some creative pricing
at my local ship ship.
I get an arrow twin set
of the Bosch ones.
It's like 31 bucks anyway.
So that'd be both sides
for 31 all up.
How much is the Costco blades?
I think they're about 17 inch or 18 inch.
So technically, yeah.
So technically I'm paying less money
and they will fit the actual
X-terrain.
Yeah, the X-terrain. So I'm going to get those next.
Again, I'll run these ones through.
I've got them on the car anyway.
I might see if they fit the Subi, because I think the Subi is 22x16 as well.
If it is, I'll just take them off
and put them on the Subi.
Yeah, just run it like that.
Here's hoping it works out well
if the wiper flies off
on the freeway or something.
I'll let you guys know, but I think it'll be fine.
Needs a new windscreen because it's all scratched.
But those have been my car adventures.
I had a customer come in
last Tuesday or last Wednesday.
That thing was.
And I was like,
look, I got my wipers
changed, but I don't think
they're right. They're scratching my windshield.
I have a look and go and have a look.
It's got an I-30S
and not an I-30 sedan.
And I have a look
and I'm like, who changed them?
He's like, oh, the dealer changed my wipers.
They charged me a lot of money for the change from my last service.
one side's wider,
so they got seven and a half by six.
And then one, like the drive side is seven and a half mil,
and the passenger side is six and a half mil,
which is quite common on cars these days.
They put two six and a halfs
in each side.
So one six and a half in each side, sorry.
And so the metal was just came out of the
the wiper and
butchered the windshield.
And I'm like, I would take it back
to
and get them to get them to
pay for a new screen, pay for a new screen.
Like I put in the right wipers on there.
I said, here, take them back and just say, hey, that's
yeah, pretty cooked.
So he's like, yeah, probably,
they probably got some apprentice to put on.
Like, oh, yeah, this, this will do. You know, bang, bang.
And off you go.
But it was, it was very grateful that I
that I changed it for him and
got that sorted.
But yeah, it's, they're an interesting
thing with thing wipers. Like,
I get customers come in a lot of times like, I'm not
spending $100 a side at Mercedes
for a, for a wipers. That's just has the
Mercedes emblem on there.
When they're made by Bosch and you get the exact same ones,
they just don't have them, you know, like 30 bucks
for the pair. So because my dad was arguing
with me the whole time when I was working on it, you know,
having a bit of a struggle. He's like, why don't you just get
it done for the dealer? I'm like, sir, sir, it's
50 bucks per wiper of the dealer.
Or it's, you know, 30 something all up.
Just you do it ourselves. And he's like, but it didn't work.
I'm like, yeah, we'll make it twice.
I'll still be under the dealer price.
I'll still be under the dealer price.
David.
I said, I know a guy.
You can come see that guy and that guy will help you.
And in typical like ethnic fashion, but that's like,
you keep these old ones and we're just going to
change the rubber out of them.
It's not even the ones you can refill.
Yeah.
That's what I'm like, you know, you can't take this off
that if you take it off with breaks.
You'll get the super glue out of it.
I've seen some shocking wipers.
Like you like the actual strips been
ripped off and they've been dropping around.
I'm like, how has it been this bad?
He's like, I've never changed it.
I've had the car 10 years and I'm like, and there's
quite literally nothing.
Stick with the car.
He's like, how often should you show them?
Like every six to 12 months.
They're like, oh, why?
I'm like, the Aussie sun destroys them.
And then you get crows that eat them as well.
Have you guys seen the crows attack the wiper blades?
Yeah, yeah.
It's actually a thing.
They actually love it.
So, yeah, I, yeah,
my eyes have been opened to the wiper game.
But yes.
So D-Max sorted.
It'll do for now,
but I'll probably end up changing them out in six months.
All right.
With the correct arrow twins from Bosch.
Screw you, Michelin.
Your tires are okay.
Your tires are okay.
Your food recommendations are somewhat okay as well.
Chad.
How are you, man?
Good.
Car updates.
So last we heard was you bought a second magnet.
Oh yeah, that's right.
I bought a second magnet.
I don't know if everyone
with the skill.
Was this to get a transmission?
Was this to get a transmission?
Is that why?
That is correct.
The transmission we got all the way from SA didn't work.
It stopped.
But it did stop after it got back from Adelaide,
which is good.
That's a win.
It's not a win to my bank account,
but I did buy another magnet,
which has got everything that I need to do the swap.
Manual swap.
That should make you happy, Alan.
Yeah, automatic.
Nice.
Not if I can help it.
I've had to
put that car on the road without plates
and I'll put a car cover on it.
Just to try that it's not
registered at the moment.
Just trying to keep my neighbours happy
and also not get the car towed
away at the same time.
Fair.
It's sensitive at the moment.
Important question.
Is the interior
of that car grey or brown?
It's grey
seats like my one and blue
dash and all the plastics
are blue.
Really?
What do you need, David?
That's the bigger question.
Early on when that Aspen Green
first came out you could get a brown interior
and then they dropped it
grey.
I'm guessing the grey dash
and door trims have probably faded
to the bluish colour.
You know what?
It's the same blue as your interior.
The dash is
98% sure
that it's blue
unless it looks blue from being dirty
or something.
They were blue.
I think Paul Gutt said
the door cards were from a different car
and the seats may be even
Maybe someone changed the seats.
Yeah, potentially it was a seat
but that interior is ruined
in that car. It's so bad.
It's mouldy and shit.
It's really like it's not
a happy place to be.
You could barely tell it's Aspen Green.
It looks
grey.
Silver even.
All the colour is just being faded away from that car.
So the
exterior is
very sad looking.
Interior is
munted. Exterior is munted.
There's not a lot going on except for
the gearbox.
It's got a manual transmission and the pedal is good to go.
And it works.
This car hasn't been driven in like 10 years
and the guy just
put fuel in it and put a battery on it
and drove it on the highway
out of all places.
And I just
drove it like in my driveway
on the street and it drives fine.
I could have probably driven
it back from maybe not.
But yeah.
It's a drivable car which is so surprising.
It doesn't feel much better.
Were you like oh thank god when you put it in the first gear.
Thank god I can like
shift my gears.
It felt good. I think
the clutch
system needs a definite break
because I bleed sorry
because it was just like with the skins.
I saw the clutch too.
Yeah I need all that stuff.
So clutch cylinder, master and slave cylinder
and lines
and all that good stuff.
But then we'll be able to transfer it over
and then we can make it.
Yeah and then eventually just change that stuff.
So yeah.
That's looking to happen probably in a couple of weeks time
I reckon.
I'm not taking the automatic
gearbox out just yet because I need
to speak to the wreckers who I bought
it from.
For them to try and diagnose it
hopefully. Because I've got like the
Mitsubishi scan now that I got from
Paul.
So they can hopefully just guide me through and be like
yeah it's munted or you haven't
checked the right thing. Because everything that I've
checked even based on the
400 page service
book
is yeah it seems to be that it's
yeah it's like that. Got no drive
so we'll see.
That's going to be
soon. But they're back from holiday next week
so I'll speak to them then and have them
sorted out hopefully.
But give back my money.
I mean something.
Such a pain in the
testicle.
All of the bets yeah.
What else has been happening with cars?
I had to move my Tarago to
my dad's house because it was running out of space
so I've got to that stage
of having too many
cars.
It's a good problem I suppose.
It depends who you are.
Good problem to have unless you've got angry spells.
Yeah wife is definitely like
if you buy one more car
it's nearly like
you know. I know what that feeling is
like. I'm just going to hand that ring back to
you I think.
Yeah you know what it's like
Matty. What else
yeah I haven't really touched any other
car. Just been trying to
fiddle with the Magno I guess and
far from that it's just driving the I-30
Yeah
that's really that's been it for me.
Nice dude.
So we've got Scotty Doe
updates with you my friend.
A lot of my updates are
upcoming. So things I might be waiting
on or I've got that's sitting there
ready and things like that so
let me see if I can try and remember
them all.
One that I got just before Christmas
that should
arrive soon because Japan's
holidays is over
is an intake system
for the blade.
Oh cool.
The group
M
G-R-U-P-E
E with an E?
Yeah at the end so I got that one
it's the carbon one
so that
will come
hopefully soon
there will be shit does an exhaust
that I want that's in
Canberra.
I'll be there in February.
I did speak to him
he said he doesn't have
anyone after it and he's not in a hurry
for it to sell so he's
happy to wait.
So I'll let you know
a bit closer to then.
Is that a custom piece
Scott? Nah the M piece is made
by
Suruga
Suruga
Hype
Pretty rare piece
that one so not many
of those around and it sounds
really good.
I was thinking of
if I can't get it then maybe I could
probably just get a custom exhaust shot
to kind of copy it
a bit but yeah
sounds good because the guy's going full
full custom exhaust
near the end of this month so
he's selling that piece off
so there's that
I also got
the wiring harness
for the
cruise control for the blade
as well
so I've got to find the pin that's
in the ECU put it in there
and bring it all the way into the steering wheel
the clock spring
it'll go in there
somewhere I know there's a dude that
did it not long ago so I'll just read up on that
the only thing is it doesn't light up
on the dash and say cruise
that's okay other than that it works
so
that's a win but
I still haven't serviced it yet I've still got to do that
I've got the stuff sitting there ready for that
I've got some wiring because
I want to hook up
I want to try and hook up the traction
control for it
I've got the button the switch
and I've got some wiring so that one
goes to a certain spot in the ECU
as well
I've got that saved it was a facebook poster
guy did so I've got that saved just got to
find out what pin that one was
I can do the same there so I can have
it turned on and off
something
for the skyline I can't
remember what I just remember opening
the door and throwing it
on the seat
and thought I'll worry about that later
I can't remember what it is
something
yeah I can't remember what it was
I don't know I just thought
sweet and I just put it on the
something I can't
remember
and I've got to try and
fix Asher's cruise
control on the inside
because the button on the steering wheel
usually
you just press it and it turns on
but for some reason you've got to hold it down
if you let go of the button it just
automatically turns off
click on and then click off
what year is it
I can't remember
2010
2011
interesting it sounds like
I had a similar issue with my
Accord Euro
the cruise control would do the same thing
it would either get stuck on
or stuck off or had to hold it
it was just really finicky
I think it may be like a parts bin
problem
I'm hoping it just maybe
the contacts or something I can just take it off
and give it a clean or something
yeah that's the first thing I'll do
is just take it out
and a bit of sandpaper
clean it up
hopefully it's just that
but that is going to be
leaving us at some point
this year
and should be getting a new car
probably at the moment
looking at a
Nissan note
the Nismo note
cool
so we'll be looking at that
so moving on the inside and it's going to be
pretty much a first
proper car
of hers
because
that's out
what do you mean Scott
of hers
that's hers because this was
parents yeah this is the
the insipers parents
you know it's
done really really well
it's high up there in the 200,000 km
and it's always always been serviced
by Honda
it's never gone anywhere else
we'll talk
yes when it's close to
I'll let you know
so Scotty
that's the blade
that's the skyline
and that's the inciting
yep and just one more
little thing that was pretty cool that I got for Christmas
from Ash
is if you're into your motorsport and stuff
I got this whole book
a formula one
as told in headlines
since 1958
oh that's awesome
for example
you got pages like this from the paper
it's all from the daily
mirror
all the way through it and
not only does it have all the headlines from formula one
going through it but it's just cool to see
all the other little things
that were happening around the world
or there's like old crosswords
in some of it as well
it's really cool
cool
yeah
yeah that's awesome that's really cool
sorry guys hang on a second
which one
three that's on
one is on and two
is on
I think it's Mr. Ed's car updates
yes so now we're up to
Edwin Bunting
how many cars have you bought and sold
over the last three weeks
hmm
what did we say last time I can't remember
so you sort of lost
remember a tidbit from last time
so you sold the
the new
old Pajero
yes I sold the new old Pajero
first person to see will buy
and did buy
and did buy
I'll never write that
I find it very presumptuous to write that so I never write that
but yes
it was true he did come and see it
and bought it
so that went
what did I sell after that
I don't think I sold anything after that until
yesterday when I sold the little
Swift that I had
the 2014 auto black on black
Swift went to a new owner
and funnily
I thought of you Scotty because the dad
and the daughter came to look at it
and the dad was driving what I thought at a glance
out the window of the house was a koala
oh no he drives a blade
it was like
ah you've got a blade and he's like
yeah and I'm like 3.5 v6 he's like
that's right so
he loves it it's a real
sleeper as we know and yeah he
really likes it
so the Swift went into the traffic
yesterday
I bought a Lexus
it's my first
Lexus
this is an IS 250
with the new shape
from 20 very late 2013
it was the new
new grill wedgie tail light nice looking
thing this is a one owner
car with a full history and has
travelled the massive amount
of 19,000 K's since
new so
it's a new car
really a new Lexus
but there's always a but
but the elderly
lady has scraped a few things
so it will need some new paint to
make it look more like it's 19,000
K's you know the bumpers
and corners and things
she brail parked
so I'll get
that sorted but other than that
it really has impressed me that car
I've never spent any time in those
and the quality
of it the little
Lexus accoutrements of it
the smoothness the rear drive
chassis
heated cooled seats
it's far better than a 3 series
and you read about them and people
just say nothing goes wrong with them
they're brilliant
so I think those are
a real
they're not even an underdog
but I just think people don't think of them
I said to my dad
I bought this cracking Lexus
and he goes oh isn't it just a Camry with another badge
I think
that mentality though
is what's out there
in the market unfortunately
but the cars are brilliant
absolutely
and particularly that model I think
that has aged really well
that's what 2013
what 12 years old or something
13 years old almost
it really looks very fresh
as a design
what trim level
do you know what the trim level is
it's just a luxury
so it's the base with a sunroof
but
even the base is
alloys, leather, park sensors, nav,
Bluetooth, heated seats, cooled seats
keyless entry, rear camera
the base is not a
pop pack you know
that's insane that's like a base that's not
even extras or anything
that's the good thing about Lexus
they offer a lot more for
a little more spec for less
yeah
and I think you could get
a sport luxury
and the sport actually gets a few more sporty bits on it
and then there was like an F sport later on
or something
yeah I know the F sport there was
that came in the 350
I had the Mark Levinson
sort of sound system and stuff like that
anyway
so that car is lovely
I just need to get a few bits painted
to make it nice
silver on black on that
silver on black
it's a bit dull on dull but
you know
they do a really tungsten colour
in that car too
which is really nice but it's not that
it's just the normal silver
there's one that lives near me that's that tungsten
but I've got a newfound respect for those
I mean I always knew they were sort of good
I'd heard they were good but
drive one and I just went
wow this thing's
really good
so there's that what else have I got
I had the Pajero
big major service done on the Pajero
and I took that down to our good friend
and listener now Mr Floyd
down in country Victoria
because Floyd knows his
shit
uh
and so
you know compared to going to a dealer
or even a Pajero Mitsubishi
specialist for the big service
you know much cheaper and I'm very
convinced that Floyd does a great job
on things like that
so it's had the valves
adjusted and I said well while we're
kind of in there doing the valves adjusted on the big
service let's pull the intake manifold
off and clean that out because on
those diesels they can often
get pretty clogged up in the intake
and you sort of don't know
it didn't drive badly at all
but you just don't know
fortunately you know he pulled all that apart and said
oh you sent me photos there's a little bit of
soot and stuff in the intake but not
not bad at all really
it's like with 240,000
k's it's done so
he cleaned all that out and put it all back together and adjusted
the valves but I really don't think the intake cleaned
would make a difference
because it wasn't bad
the valve adjust did make
a difference so it was
every 30,000 in those you meant to do that
and he said yeah they're definitely loose and
it's definitely quieter and smoother
you know driving it since
that was done
so very happy with that let's talk about
breakdowns
now
Chad just laughs because he doesn't want to talk about
we'll get to you in a minute Matt
because Maddy's had a breakdown
but of course I was there because it seems to be
the I don't know last month and a half
I think you're the common denominator Edward Bunting
I certainly am
well the one that I haven't talked about on this show
I think was the Renault did I talk about that
no I didn't
not the Renault
a few weeks back the yellow the bright yellow Renault
our good friend Tommy
bought a BMW from Ballarat and he said
can you drive it to Ballarat let's hang out get dinner whatever
I said you know drama
I had the choice of many a car to take to Ballarat
but I thought no let's
let's crack on
the yellow Renault that's lying around
let's give that a highway run which it did
very well out on the highway and Tommy was
even commenting gee this car runs well
and I said it does it does
and not too long after that a nice sort of
grinding clunking sound started
emanating the right hand front wheel
area quite metallic
you know go go go go
and I'm thinking it doesn't sound good so we
sort of pull over and have a look
around there's nothing obvious that was
wrong
but you know as soon as you start crawling
is like all right
something's not happy
so we dumped the Renault
ordered an Uber
into Ballarat
for the remaining 20k
accidentally ordered a taxi as well
and so they both
both worked up at the same time
and I had to just pay the taxi some cash
and said sorry mate
they're the drive out of Ballarat
yeah exactly
how did you order a taxi by accident
how does that happen?
the taxi wasn't by accident but Tommy had gone
onto Uber and they just weren't coming so he
assumed it had killed it off but it hadn't
so they looked
and I'm like oh god
do I go in one and you go in the other
what do you do?
sure
the cabbie would be like to the Uber
I'll race you
we're taking it slow as we can
so silly
so we did the car deal on this BMW
drove back to the Renault
I meanwhile ordered an RACV
tow truck
had it towed back to Melbourne the guy was lovely
he's like oh yeah I've got a Cortina
he was into his 70s stuff
so it gets dumped back outside my house
late night and everyone goes to bed
that's it
the next day I thought I'll just take the Renault
around the block and see what it's doing
a little more perfect
not a noise
but how do you go
from having grinding, clunking
like and it's not just me it's not just in my
head Tommy heard it you know
how do you go from that
to being exactly as it was
before like perfect
and I thought I came up with
a theory
which was drive shaft related I thought the drive shafts
have got grease in them
I think it's heat related you know like after
an hour of hot highway driving
whatever it is is you know if there's
grease or no grease in there whatever
not doing what it's meant to do
and your drive shaft bearings and everything
are now clunking around and not being lubricated
that was my theory
and seemingly right
I drove it out to the mechanic and he pulled the drive shaft out
and he said yeah there was
bugger oil grease in that
then they're meant to have sort of half a cup of water inside the boot
bugger oil is probably the original
bloody drive shafts probably never been out of that car
I don't know
so
he filled it with grease and said
I think that has to be the problem because there's nothing
else out there at the wheel that would make
that noise there's no
there's no other problem
you know if it was something in the gearbox
gearboxes don't fix themselves
no
like if something's gone snap or you know
you don't come good it's a bad time
but drive shaft grease heating up and then
cooling down the next day and doing what it's meant
to do at slowest speeds yeah yeah that makes
sense and metal does expand and contract
it gets big on so
so I think it's
nothing to do with that
anyway so the Renault is back
back driving again
I haven't since taken it on a long hot road
trip but I think I'll have to
to kind of prove that it's
back anyway
the 380SEL I've driven that
quite a bit over the
brake that is running really well
it's still got a few little things I want
to get sorted on it but in terms of
a turnkey running car
it's doing everything it should
Matty and I and his brother took on a little run
that was fun
that was a good day
so yeah I'm happy with that
I'll keep playing with a few bits on it
but on that very day
you know we'll now cut across
oh hang on I've got to talk about
my wipers Scotty just so
I don't feel left
it's wiper talk tonight on car talk gentlemen
yeah Matty's
Matty's car did have an issue which he'll
talk about but we ended up at Super Cheap Auto
and I said oh wow we're here Matty you know
you know what about some
380 because they were squeaking
so we got
and Matty fitted those
he did a very good job of that
you made him fit
as well
well we were right there Chad it's sort
and even one guy
who went past me he said no we've been working today
and you're working on cars and I'm like
sorry
I said well let's do the headlight ones as well
because they're old and crusty little headlight wiper blades
so we did them too
fresh they weren't in stock
they made you do it the manual
yeah the manual weren't you
anyway never the less
nevertheless
they're all really good now
4 fresh blades
4 fresh blades
woo mama
anyway but the reason we're at Super Cheap
I'll hand to Matty
and he can tell that story
so my brother
he invited us for a bit of a New Year's Eve drive
down to
where did we go we went to
a wood end?
for a bit of a drive
through some roads and it looked like it was
the apocalypse
the roads we drove on
there was just shit everywhere
big
tree branches
it was cooked
it was a lot of debris
it was just windy
it was just windy
but it was funny though because the first sign of it was
for some context
my brother did a bit of a wrecky before
and he's like yeah fine the rides were perfect
and the day we're going
as we're driving to get to these fun roads
there was a truck
putting rocks on the ground
and so
our car was just getting butchered
and one of the other guys that came out
had an old XE
which was a really lovely car
and he was like
because he had some big dish wheels in the back
and the rocks would get caught in the dish and start pitting
over the wheels
so he had to just wait
so then
we get into these other roads
and I think you and him turned off Edward
because the weather was just
the roads were cooked
we might have just taken a wrong turn I think
yeah
so then we met up
for a bit of like a late
breakfast early kind of lunch
we had a bakery
we had a lovely potato pie
in Woodend
in Woodend, yep
there's a bakery in there
why don't you go to the golf course while you're there
you know
I've got to practice all these skills I've learnt
come on
I was there on Sunday
the one where if you're on a horse
you're probably playing polo instead of golf
that was my favourite tip
that's a good tip
so yeah everything's good
we drive back and
Luca proceeded to show me how quick his car was
and the ESP
I got frightened about three or four times
because he's on the highway
I've got windows up here come on
and he's five car legs ahead
but when he goes the
the exhaust thing
yeah whatever
he's frightened me every time it's so loud
it's like gunshots
I jumped
and bang it just
launches like
I'm not in a convertible right next to him
I'm in an S class five cars back
I shouldn't be jumping
it's an unbelievably
fast car
but anyway we're getting back into
town
and get off the freeway
on Keelor Road
in Nidgerian
it smells a bit sweet I'm like that doesn't smell right
so for some context I'm in the typhoon
anyway
the velvet glove correct
and as we're driving
I'm like this is getting stronger
I hope my car's on fire
so I pull over
and then I just see underneath
there's just water pouring out of it
okay that's why that smells bad
so I switched it off open the bonnet
and you just see all the
water coming out from a heater hose connection
it's like a little tea piece
and that's
what it looks like
so
what was that Ed?
you got it right there
here's what I prepared earlier
I'm still on the floor in my car I saw
so that's it there
and
anyway it's the little tea piece that goes off
to the
the turbo
there's like a small little hose that cools the turbo
at the back of the firewall
it's just a plastic little tea piece
and
20 something 22 years old of just
heat cycles
it's apparently it's quite a common thing
and they just let go
you know the first time
I've ever had to break down in my typhoon
which never happens
I was there
because Ed was there
he's the common denominator
so we're like well
we can't do anything we're going to let the car cool down
so we went and had another bakery
we walked
across the redwood
to a bakery there
we looked at the
unique cars with the Magna 40
and they had a bit of a read of that
saw the back of David's head
what seems to be like
you're in there Dave you're in there
Chad's Magna's in there
it is yeah
it's funny
the center spread of unique cars
your bloody Magna
it's incredible
I'm going to get a copy of this
you do have to get a copy of that
they had the wasp in there
pretty much everyone's Magna's were in there
that's in some form or another
really
really good run up as well
so they were like alright well let's go
see what we can do so we take it out
and it's just
it's quite literally just
real plastic snapped
so we pulled it out
and we go down the road there
I did the unthinkable being a super cheap person
went to auto one
they had nothing
and then we went to
Ward we went to Ford
Ford were like yeah can't help you at obsolete
I'm like thanks Ford
thanks for absolutely
all the guys with two of us having a barbecue in the
it's still amazing
it smells so good in there
it smells so good in there
when I looked at the New Year's Eve Barbie
I was like can we get one of those snacks
it felt like a snack to be honest with you
so I was like okay well that's no good
she's like I'll print you off a copy
of what you need
I'm like well it's not going to help me if it's obsolete
so we were like well where's
the nearest one closest thing next to us
there was a Repco
so I go to the Repco and I showed the guy
and the guy's like look we don't really have any
I'm like have you got any fittings like brass fittings
that I can try and make something
and he's like are you over there
so I got like a middle T piece
and then got
two female barbs
on each side and a smaller one at the top
and it worked
so I was like that'll do
the guy's like oh you know
that was already and then Chad was like
you craft the individual
and I showed him what I had done
put it back together
so they went to super cheap because I had to get cool
because I was refusing the pie cool
at Repco for the inflated price
got a couple tools that I needed
changed Edward's wipers
and then
oh we were there I mean it was
that makes a lot more sense
where
Ed's taking you to get emergency parts
and while you're there
that's more reasonable
correct
it was meant to be
like a two minute job
just wipe her in, wipe her out
but of course nothing ever is
more like half an hour
yes but look he gave us a good time for the car to completely cool down
which was nice
that's true which was needed
which was needed
so when we get back and we're like
okay let's install this
so the reason why I went to Repco
to see what they had was because
the fittings that we've got at super cheap
we didn't have those bigger range and they had a bit more of a range at Repco
and it was enough to get me home
it all worked
I then got to super cheap and ordered myself
just because
in case my fix was
not great but that's
totally that's
my fix was I think better quality
Ed would
it all a fix and that's a brass fitting not a plastic fitting
correct a brass fitting
awesome
so the air flow that I've got is a
anodized aluminium one
which is apparently meant to outlive the car
but I think the brass one will be fine
so then we reinstalled it
it took about two and a half litres
it did drop a fair bit
we were like okay
now it's time for an ice cream
because we're broken down at the front of an ice cream shop
we went and got ice cream
what do you do
you've had this day you've had the potato pie
you've had a lunch at the bakery
you've had the ice cream
that was a solid day
and then that night
went obviously for
a new year's dinner
a new year's dinner
where it was like a proper Italian
Italian do
my housemate George
his parents put on a lovely
spread
but like old wog style
they just bring food
we look hungry
we had lasagna
but before that we had the anti-pasta
anyway I'm getting off to talk to you
welcome to food talk
I couldn't walk
Steph actually ended up driving home
that night
genuinely
I was like I'm so full right now
and it wasn't
being intoxicated it was just a lot of food
so then
got back
drove the car home
I checked for the first few couple k's
now my fix seems pretty solid
got up to temp
checked it in footscray
drove the back way I was like I'll just try and get myself home
happy days all good
I'm a mechanic
then
I was like
saying
honestly if it holds under a bit more pressure
so I got it on some boost
happy days got me home
sorted perfectly
the issue was the car smells like
coolant because
it leaked onto the exhaust manifold
which is white with a turbo
both the whole car smells
like absolute coolant
so I spent the next well I got home and runced it all
all it off
still smells like coolant
so then I spent the following day
new year's day this was my new year's day
about 6 hours
detailing the engine bay just to
you run it from a clean to like oh I could probably clean it a bit more
to a full blown engine
diesel
just went 2 days
stuff's like why are you still here
I got my little brush and she's like
coming down in the heart for the air
6 hours later
6 hours later
so it is
you could eat off the engine bay in that car at the moment
I'm proud of it
I mean I probably didn't need to go that far
but it did get all over the
shop I just couldn't quite get underneath
where the
k-frame is to get all that coolant on there
so it is going in for a service on Thursday
so
I also had a look
can you just give it a quick wipe
cause coolant goes like weirdly sticky
after a while then all the stuff sticks to it
so it's a yuck
and it smells like
glycol
but it's also like it's sticky
and when it explodes it goes all white
there was like paint everywhere in the air
disgusting
well yeah sure it was a coolant mate
more than you spending 6 hours in the air
so anyway
I've detailed
the living Scheisenhausen out of that engine bay
and it looks better than I'd say new
so
I'm quite proud of it
I should be for like 6 and a bit of hours
of doing that
have a picture up
I'll have to take a picture
I want to see it
it then got to the point where I was like
well the radiator support mounts
don't look that good because
everything else looks mint and these have got some surface rust
so I took them off, wire wheeled them
filled them
high filled them, sanded them back
coated them
they look mint, the battery tie down
had a speck of rust so wire wheeled that as well
got it done, I did a bit of David Prinzing
I think
I put it all back on
and everything was fine, put the battery clamp back on
perfect, put the left side
radiator mount on, happy days
put the right one on and as soon as
I timed it up a little bit too much
the paint all broke
and it was like no
and I wasn't
then enough
I wasn't very happy
and Steph was like, are you okay
I just yelled a bit
in the garage as I was like
no
so then that came back off again
wire wheeled
took it back and redid it
but it's not perfect, I want to buy another one
to redo
I've got a bit anal with it in the end
but
that's okay
it is
sorted, it looks a lot better
so yeah, happy days
for that
what else have I done, car related, for us to draw
fine to Adelaide and back
to great car, I love that thing
Fiesta
drove that, 2Dro has driven that
I think
well laser, yeah laser has been fine
Camry, I drove the Camry for pretty much the whole
first week since I've been back which was great
I drove it every day, yeah great
cold air con, everything works
the more I'm driving the better it's getting
so that's pretty good
so yeah, all my cars are
carring along which is really really nice
for
for the first time
in a while
but it's been a big car update gentlemen
because we've had so much to catch up on obviously
with missing out on a few weeks
of the show
we don't have time for a topic, it's just straight to quiz
it is straight to the quiz tonight
I think gentlemen, let's get into the quiz
Scotty Doe is kindly off to do the quiz
because I got called in late to work
long story, Chad knows about it
so
I didn't get a chance to write my quiz earlier today
so Scotty Doe
is kindly off to do the quiz
there is a few people doing the quiz
you can say I've technically
won the most
car quizzes in 2026
so far
so Scotty Doe
your quiz, you may take it away
so this one is
your usual 10 questions
there is some bonus questions in there
I go on a tangent in there with some
rotary questions
all of a sudden I just
saw this article
and then I just went on a tangent
with a bunch of questions
so a bit of a mix
in there which
should make it interesting
hopefully
I can hear David because I know sometimes
with yours at the moment David it kind of cuts in
and out so I'll do my best
so I don't want you to miss out
when people buzz in
so I'll do my best to listen as
close as possible
anything goes wrong David you blame on the latency
for being in Scotland
exactly
okay let's get started
question number one
what Volkswagen model
turns 50 this year
David
I think David got in there
50
that would be the Golf
this Golf GTI turns
50
well I would say to
Golf
is that because you play golf
Scotty you put that one in there
actually I just typed in
car news and I saw a few
of course
yeah
that yeah that's
got a limited edition one that will be coming out
at some point this year some people have already
put orders in and blah blah blah
if you're a Golf GTI fan
congratulations
these few questions
yeah interesting we're going to move into our rotary stuff here
question number two
the rotary engine is making
a comeback but which country
is producing it
Ed
missed Ed
China
what
I feel
are we going to get BYDs or rotary swaps
in there
is the company
making the
it's the company that's making
the Mazda
6E or whatever it's called
oh yeah that's good
that's been made in China
because of the connection they're making this rotary
motor now this is going to move us into
the bonus question
it's going to be it's a one
rotor and
what is this one rotor motor
going to be? Matthew
Matthew so I'm pretty sure
it's just going to be like a generator
like a
you know those like a BMW
i3 they had that on board generator
it's not
it's not
okay I've read that wrong then
well I think it's going to be
in the
Mazda
you already answered the question boy
and you entered
incorrectly
Mazda 2 I'll say Mazda 2
what's the Mazda 2?
it's going to be put into Mazda 2
but no I'm incorrect
go to the RX 9
that's good
correct or not correct
correct
correct
no incorrect
chat
are they going to put it in like the Mazda 6?
nope
not the sedan
David
David
RX 10
nope
just skipping the RX 9
I thought I had heard that they were skipping the RX 9
anyway
Eduardo
I don't know
I'm going to let everyone come back in
it's not going in a vehicle
oh
it's not going in a car
it's going in a generator Ed
not a generator
Matthew
not a scooter
well he said not a vehicle
okay
David an aircraft
yeah
oh really
a low altitude aircraft
wow
is the one rotor
and they're going to produce a two rotor for it as well
that's double the horsepower
still much power
I mean not to fly in that
are there any specs on what it makes
and that sort of thing
there was
I think it was like 80 horsepower
or something
it's not too bad
interestingly like reliability
is one of the key points
of any aircraft engine
and you don't say reliability in rotary
if you run out of apex you'll
have 30,000 feet
it's a low altitude
you just fall for 15,000
it's not bad
you'll survive that
you should be able to survive it
you should be right
I'll go
no no no go for it David
I was just going to say I've got a mate
who's right into his aviation
and home built planes and there's
one of them
there's a Subaru boxer engine
yeah the head gas gets out in 35,000 feet
would not be ideal
alright question number three
in Australia
which Mazda did we get
that had the first rotary engine in it
Matthew
David
yeah
what was that sorry
the R100
yes correct the R100
that's the original Cosmo right
no is that different to the Cosmo
it's different to the Cosmo
we never got the Cosmo here
the first gen
do you beat me by like a quarter of a second
David Prince
question number four
what year was the last production
of the RX-8
Matthew
2012
yeah correct
oh
2012
good get
spot on
alright we're leaving
the rotaries
now we're moving into
Victoria police
presently we have
we were step by step
Victoria police have added a new model
to their range used for highway patrol
and to accompany the drug
and alcohol units what is it
oh jeez
interesting
so you said for highway patrol
as well
highway patrol aboard a couple
and also the drug and alcohol unit
so you know the cars that you see with the booze bus
yeah is it to chase people down
or is it just to throw people in the paddy wagon part
uh
no it looks like
a proper highway patrol
okay because I know
Mr. Turboter was mentioning how you can't actually
fit people properly in the
in there yeah some of their chase cars
so you have to get somebody else you gotta get another paddy wagon to rock up a thromb in there
correct you gotta get a uniform
I hope you guess
yeah
is it a BMW M3
no
well they currently have M5s don't they
no they've got X5s
X5s
and they've got 530i
oh they're 530
M sports
I don't know
Matthew I wanted to say something
something
is it a genesis
too comfortable
I like a genesis
I think they're cool
can't be electric
not electric
I don't think it's electric
yeah
really cuts a lot of cars
doesn't it
that'll do highway and accompanying moose bus
I think it
Chad
is it the Volkswagen
Arteon or something
who's left Alan
and Edward
I don't know
what country is it from
just have a guess Ed
can I tell you what country it's from now that's unfair for the other people that are out
I don't care
shenanigans
trying to get an upper hand mate
what was it some highway cop car
yeah highway cop car
highway patrol and then the
drug and alcohol units
Australia
Victoria police
yeah Tesla
just a guess
you've got to sell C63s
at the crappy ones
C43
C43s
piece of shit
I think we're all out
what is this Cody
Ford Everest V6s
jeez
what are you gonna chase with that
that was why I was asking the question
is it actually gonna do a chase
is it an Everest
what are those things called the hot ones
they don't even do a raptor one
no they do a
not a raptor but they do a tremor
a tremor yeah
or is it just a base model
V6 base model
with the Land Rover I am
there's the one under the tremor
it's the Ford Everest
Parkinson's
terrible car
that leads well into question number six
leave
leave
question number six
we've got the
new as you just mentioned the
Ford Everest tremor
that comes with the 2.7
liter twin turbo V6
where is it being sold
it's only sold in one market area
at the moment so think about
country area where is it
sold sorry what the Everest
the Everest tremor
what Chad
Chad where is it being sold
no
we have them here
Alam
Alam the UK
no damn it
well they built in Thailand man I want to say Thailand
nope David is it Japan
nope
that would be funny
they start selling Fords there again
I would say a couple of Broncos
in Japan
old ones
and the left hand drivers or right hand drivers
which are where the Americans are
one part of my street
a Bronco
a 70s Bronco
or the plate's OJ
that's amazing
it's like a red glove
it's a silver one
it's wrapped
in gloves
that's incredible
sorry
back to the Ford Everest Parkinson's
yep
I
I don't know
Ed
I think you all left the yes
what's the question again
Ford Everest
tremor is only
sold in a certain markets
or certain country at the moment
where is it
what's been guessed so far
UK, Australia
Japan, Thailand
America it's sold in America
nope
is that a no Scott
your answer no
okay next question
hey we need an answer
it's in the Middle Eastern market
oh for real
I just want to see
with the Hilux's
they got the guns in the back
see those ones have to be sold here
they put on the ship
I think Dino's got an Isis symbol
weird thing is
it's not even as powerful as the Raptor
so why wouldn't you make the Ford Everest tremor
with the Raptor motor
forward doing forward things
sell it somewhere like the Middle East
correct yeah well I don't know
like would you shift Coyote in it
then it's worth it
selling it to the Middle East
like they want that kind of crazy horsepower
stuff chuck something crazy in it
again Scotty Ford doing four things
I don't know
we're going to move into some interesting stuff
I found this really really interesting
looking at some of these statistics
we're moving into some
statistics
okay let's do it
60% of statistics have made up
question number seven
who topped the charts
for the most sales in November
2025
Alam
Mr. Alam
Nope
why was this just Australia
should have mentioned electric cars
this is
this would be
here Australia
should be Ford
who topped the charts for sales
yes
it was the Toyota Raptor hybrid
it is correct
really
we're getting away from the
big dogs
it's probably all the ones that they've ordered
that they just couldn't deliver because they were just
so far behind in stock but anyway
this will be closest to
how many Toyotas were sold
Matthew
this isn't just one model this is
Toyotas
in Australia in that month
Matt I'm going to say
8,920
I'm going to say
20,000
20 cases Ed
I'll get 17.5
17.5 cases
10 of it
15
15 of them
15,000
I'll do 22,222
it's a lot of 2s
Richie Benow over here
222
Ed got closest
it's 19,787
in that month
there you go
what the hell
my bonus
question is who came in second place
Matthew
that has to be Ford with the Ranger
it was Ford
and it was Ford with
7,407
more than doubled
everybody else
in our market
fair reason
score check
myself on 2
David and Ed on 3
let's continue
we're playing 0 again
anyone's game
playing golf rules
in that same month
this is the next
question
because I can't do my question
8 because
Ed already said RAV4
so
no it's not
we're not doing these shenanigans again Ed
26
we're really
running with my rules
in that same month
how many Teslas were sold
Ed
closest to again obviously
3,500
to Ed should notice
he works for the company that deals with this stuff
3,500
I ignore the Teslas stuff
Matthew
I think it's a trick question because Tesla don't like to give
their stats away
so I'm gonna say zero because they can give their stats away
you got it bullseye
really
that's hilarious
that's what's being published
they refuse to publish the amount of cars they sell
all stars sold
none, Citroen 0 as well
yep they've pulled out
yeah Aston Martin sold
13
that's pretty good
good on them
sort of DBX on the road the other day
that was crazy
in Summerton of all places
we're not gonna assume but we'll assume
at the same time
why that car is in Summerton
we sell more Mitsubishi's
than GWM and BYD
for that month
so yeah
I'll send you the link
because you can see not just by month
but you can change it to model
sales and year to date and things like that
so you can see the RAV4
trumps everything
by the Ford Ranger and everything like that
but
year to date for cars sold
you got
220
221,322
cars for Toyota
and then Ford in second place with
85,850
holy moly
that's insane
it's not even close
it's Toyota in daylight is what it is
yeah
so you can click on that
and have a look when you feel like it
but I just was
yeah
blown away
and I kind of
really like looking at that kind of stuff sometimes
yeah it is cool
very interesting compared
to what you think the
market is
from what you hear
or see from ads
and all that kind of crap
hard fact
alright we're jumping over to some motorsport
and I hope you
brushed up on what's happening with Formula One
no
in Formula One
what has Mercedes and Red Bull
done with the new engine
the Ferrari
yes Chad
they have something going on with
the
what is it called
the
combustion
oh my god I'm blanking
it's like
compression of the engine
it runs higher compression
but it's hotter
therefore makes more power
and it's like
they've just been caught out
they haven't been caught out because it hasn't been
written into the rules that
you can't do that sort of thing
yeah
giving the point
so what's happening is
what is yours Chad
each engine has to have a certain
compression ratio
and this is measured
when the engine is
like idle
not driving
I had it written somewhere
it says what the compression ratio is
but that's not the point
what these two manufacturers have done
is when you're actually driving
and the heat builds up
it expands and the metals that they're using
in there
shrinks
and it bumps up the compression ratio
giving them more power
which equates to
about an extra 4 tenths
taken off around a track
and FIA
went to FIA and said
this is ridiculous
it's unfair for the sport
and FIA came back and said
it's fine because we
don't measure it when they're driving so it's
allowed
they suspect that FIA
are complaining a lot the most
because they don't know how to do it
so that's what's kind of come out
that's why out in that
Ferrari are kicking up stink
because they haven't figured out how to do it
while these other two engine manufacturers have
so they better get on it
because they're going to be way behind the patch
yeah fair enough
it's funny because these engine
would have been developed mid last year
so it's
so far behind
it's a very quick one
so just listen carefully getting
first
where's the first round
of Formula 1 being raced this year
Matthew
Matthew
it's not Australia is it
yes it is
okay
to bring in a quick question
Scotty god damn it
yeah I thought it was
we're back to being the first
on the
back to here being first again
how it should be
David we're there you gotta go
we'll see you next week
bye David
bye David
score check
Alam yet to score
Goffers he wins
David and Ed on three piece
and I
on a four
so thank you Scotty
I would like to thank you for making such a great
quiz as you normally do
welcome
except for Alam shenanigans
Alam sitting here
with sunnies on
trying to keep
the tears back
you don't know me
yes it is
Ed and Bunny I just want to say
ask you a question before we go
I had a customer come in on a Saturday
ordered some parts and
then he returned on Sunday
in a different car but
so he and his wife in Melbourne BMW
bought
two E60s like they bought
his and her E60
and I'm like oh this is probably like
an Edward Bunting time
he bought like it's like a black on
cream and then she got like a
it's like a one of one colour in Australia
apparently so it was an individual
I think I'm assuming
it's like a goldie but not a gold
I don't know it's a weird colour with a tan interior
and they bought at the same time in the
330 like they're like they're by 330
eyes
sorry 530 eyes yes
so I'm wondering if you
had anything to do with that
possibility
I don't remember having
a husband and wife by the same car
no
no that doesn't
ring any bells
at all but they may not have
bought it from our dealer
well where I work here
fair enough
let's do some plugs Scotty's got tip of the week
I went out and played on Sunday
over on Woodend
you know it was a little bit off
didn't play the best but I got a few
parts in there so I think
what you need to
I guess get into the mindset is
you're not always
going to play awesome on every single
hole just look for the little wins
you know I got one of them
was like a quadruple bogey it was just terrible
but in the next hole I got a part
so
you know just get those little wins
just play hole to hole
that's what you got to do
I love your optimism mate
it's by Swap & Cell
well
the next thing that I'll probably
be selling is
the Lexus
and all the Honda Odyssey that's still
floating around X David
Princemobile that needs to go so
yeah it's got to be those
too I think next on the chopping block
and then
I think I'm sort of out of stock for a
minute which I'm not
I'm okay with that because when I'm out of
stock it means I can sort of play with the other
cars that need some attention
100%
charge delivery to somewhere near you
buy it and deliver it
we haven't got a US segment
we need a segment for you
are you going to do the plug
no we usually do the plug for
yeah so
if you would like to not experience
an electric car that
pays so poorly in a crash test
where the structure kind of gets
misshapen the doors are not unlocked and the
body welds snap
you make sure you hit up our good friend
also on facebook at facebook.com
because he's the man
in the know when it comes to electric car space
he'll make sure you get into one
he's in the loop
you don't want to get into one that snaps like that
you don't want to get into one that runs over pedestrians do you
no you do not
he's also the man in the know when it comes to
the new price
or price of new cars
yes he is
tell him we sent you
absolutely
big shout out to your ears you're doing big things
he's in town like every week
he just flies in and out
that's where all the cars are
quite literally
