Well, I did actually do a history of gin,

in the lost close of the Royal Mile the other day,

which was awesome.

You're a gin drinker now, David.

And I'm doing another one tomorrow,

at the Edinburgh Gin Company,

which is about how it's made.

So, here, looking forward to that.

Car wise, oh, gosh.

I was going to say it's a bit of wasteland,

but it's probably more the time of year.

There is not a lot on the roads,

and people don't take their cars out.

For very good reason.

We picked up a car from Manchester Airport.

They gave us, I booked a Dissen Duke,

just something that size,

just for the two of us, and our luggage.

But we sort of rejigged it a bit.

We wanted to get a car that,

I put Kat down as another driver,

and ended up with a Skoda Kamek,

which is a one-link, five-door hatch,

sort of what they call a small SUV,

but it's pretty low.

But the cracking little car,

it just eats up the miles.

It's very economical.

Had 200 miles on the clock.

But we were somewhere yesterday,

heading into the border's area,

just going for a bit of a drive.

There's a truck coming towards us

with flashing yellow lights,

quite slowly.

As we drew level with it,

we passed and I realised it was a gritter,

because they run gritters around the roads.

When the weather's like this,

the temperature's so low,

just to break up the,

so the ice doesn't fall on the road.

Imagine passing a B-double,

sort of head-on,

if it's raining and the spray hits you

like a wave,

the B-double goes past.

Well, this was grit,

sand, salt and everything.

That poor car.

Yeah, I don't know.

Which I thought,

okay, that explains why all the cars

look the way they do here.

Just peppered on the front.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

So this brand-new Skoda,

like I'm glad it's the one.

Yeah, anyway, what could you do?

I mean, the same thing you see all the,

you know, around Edinburgh,

there's a bit of money,

so you see, you know,

really nice sort of BMs

and all,

every sort of luxury car

you can imagine around here.

But yeah, they're all absolutely filthy

and, you know, just caked with,

with grit and mud and slush.

So, you know,

so consequently,

you don't see many cool old things

about when we're in Europe.

I think I saw,

I saw a 190E,

I think I said to a photo,

and you did.

Yes.

But I'll be hardly posting any photos of cars

because there's literally not much to buy.

Well, anyway,

Peter, they'll come out to play.

Yeah, no, they wisely keep them.

I did actually post a reel to

CarSpotters Australia

because I did see a car the other day

that I had no idea what it was,

which is pretty confronting for any of us.

You know, you see something,

piece together, something,

turned out was, it was a

reliant imp.

It looked sort of like a,

like a Metra,

you know, one of those Metra

like sort of early SUVs

from the 70s, but it was tiny.

It was like the size of Datsun 1200 Ute.

Turns out,

I must have sent through to you boys as well,

but one of the guys on CarSpotters Australia

identified it,

but I had no idea what it was.

But the fact it's fiberglass

is probably why it survived over here.

Oh, the whole body's fiberglass.

Yeah.

Reliance.

I think the best car for that climate

would be a galvanized moke.

Interestingly, have big, many mokes.

They were broken half

by now.

A couple of mokes, minus three,

or something.

You'd want to be in here,

you'd want your gloves.

I spoke to my sister yesterday, I video-chatted her,

and she's like, look out the window,

there's just snow.

She's in Manchester.

And she's like, it's just a bit cold.

I'm like, do you think?

You've got snow out there.

So then she proceeded

to put the phone on the window sill,

and we were

quite literally laughing, watching a guy

try to take the snow off the car,

and he was struggling to do it, and he was just giving up,

and he was cracking it because he couldn't get into his car.

So we just sat there watching that for a bit.

That was quite funny. Not for him,

but for us more.

We got a bit of a laugh.

So not much in the car front, David Prince?

Not much on the car front, no.

No, sadly.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled.

I did see an awesome panel van

yesterday, I took a photo, I haven't seen it through to yet.

Yeah, cool.

They're a little van, which are pretty cool,

but I also did

the local Honda dealership, of course,

to see and just shake me head

that they had a new Civic hybrid,

which in Australia, I think

is now under $50,000.

I think it's $49,000 for the hybrid.

That car is $72,000

Australian dollars over here.

Oh, geez.

And the Civic Type R,

they had a demo mileage Civic Type R,

literally

under 1,000 miles on the clock,

and it was

92?

Well, that's absurd.

But the cracker,

they sell jazz's handover

for all the older people.

They're very popular with the older demographic.

I don't sell them in Australia,

because that car here

starts at $27,500,

which is

about $51,000.

A lot for a jazz.

Is that going to be one of the cheapest

cars you can buy over there?

Oh, look, there are cheaper cars.

A lot. There's

Dutchiers, obviously.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Chinese cars

are coming through, you see, BYD's

and stuff like that.

Between

$15,000 and $20,000, there's quite a few things.

Lots of stuff that we've never

got, lots of home days we don't get.

Kia's got a whole

seed range over here,

rather than we just got the seed GT for a while,

but there's a whole

variety of wagons and hatches and stuff.

That's cool.

But yeah, so, $15,000 to $20,000,

but most people over here

don't go buy a car that way.

It all comes down to the monthly payment.

It's a little bit different over here.

Oh, by something Lawshawn says

to say hi to you all. I was talking to him yesterday

about cars.

Obviously, Lawshawn,

and he said

he doesn't know anyone that goes

any newer car that goes and actually

pays cash for it. It's all done on this sort of,

like a lease sort of thing,

but a personal lease sort of thing.

Yeah. Okay.

Is it more manageable than

an all purchase or is it

similar sort of situation?

Well,

the sort of

$350 to

£450 a month, so that's

like $700 a month.

People are paying this sort of thing for a brand new car.

Okay.

I suppose that just affected that in somehow.

Having something

still survive. You see crazy things

that like a

you think, how is that even still on the road over here?

You know, so much.

A first gen micro, not even the micro we got

in Australia, but well before that.

Like there's one of those muscle

where you think, far out of house.

It's still on the road, you know.

And that black, last time I was here

I think I said you were found over black fiesta

just around the corner from here. Still there.

Still immaculate.

Not a mark on it.

So, and it's black.

So, yeah, they must love it

to bits.

So I'll keep in reporting of anything

of interest, but as I said, they love a black car.

There's lots of black and grey hatchbacks over here.

Wow, that's very Melbourne.

Melbourne loves black and grey cars.

Yeah, I know, I know.

To come to the same lack

of colour that we have.

Pretty much sadly,

occasionally one of those retina

searing Audi bright green

or, you know,

RS4s

or RS3s.

There's a lot of those around.

That'd be like

200 grand over there, right?

Oh, great prices here.

Oh, yeah.

And is that just the Scottish price?

Or is that consistent across the UK?

I think it's

pretty consistent across the UK.

That's insane.

Yeah.

I mean, I haven't gone around

to lots of other dealerships, but

even, you know, Sean says

new cars here are so expensive compared to Melbourne.

Like a Suzuki Vitara.

There's a Suzuki dealership.

They're sort of low to mid-30s.

Australian dollars.

So you can pick one of those up for mid-20s,

I think, in Australia.

So, yeah, it's interesting.

There seems to be

something that people

will have to spend the money for.

And then, of course, they'd appreciate so quickly

because they're not worth

a lot after a few years on the roads up here

because the MOTs need to be done

after three years

on a new car.

And, yeah,

I mean, all the rust of all

the non

most of the components underneath are treated,

but some cars,

my daughter's got a jazz and

a few of the bits like

that, like this shield

for the cat underneath,

like the mounting

points just rust away, you know, like,

and they've got to replace that sort of thing nearly every MOT.

So, yeah, it's a hard

climate as are

expensive, but also

disposable, too, it seems.

David, have you been on

Facebook marketplace over there?

How so?

No, no, I haven't, actually.

I haven't. Really?

I will be

before I go, though, I can see the time coming.

I have to wait

for the opportunity

where it's actually double,

or it's not going to get to double digits.

I think the forecast for the rest of the week

is still under five degrees every day.

It's always

interesting going on marketplace.

I always do in different locations.

Yeah.

You just think, what's out there?

I was really surprised years ago,

and I was in Tassie, at just how little

there was online.

You know, it's, I mean, it is

sort of a big country town, that island, and

I was just like, wow,

we're spoiled for choice here with just

cars.

So much, yeah.

When my friend was in Darwin,

some years back, and he wanted a car,

and I jumped online and put my location as Darwin,

and I thought, geez, they're either all

really stuffed, or they're just

nothing.

It just was not the choice.

Yeah, you forget how

lucky we are, both with the number

and, as you say, the climate.

I always say to people, Australia

is very kind on cars,

certainly down south.

You know, Queensland's

pretty hard on cars, up north it gets,

the humidity gets them, and the rust

and what have you, but

Melbourne and Sydney,

certainly Melbourne and Adelaide,

and places like that, very

kind to cars really.

As is Canberra, Canberra's probably one of the

best places. And incredibly kind to cars, yes.

It gets very hot and it gets very cold, but there's

no salt. And also the other thing with Canberra

is the roads.

It's a lot newer city,

there's a, anyone's been there,

it's full of roundabouts, there ain't a lot of traffic

lights, so you're not stop, start, stop, start,

there's no traffic.

You're sort of flowing constantly, 90%

of the roads are 70 or 80 kph,

so you're kind of the cars running

at a nice tempo, you know,

a nice flow.

I always joke with that Tarago I've got, that's done

for $21,000 now.

You know, that's a Canberra car, it's probably

equivalent of $200,000,

Melbourne thousand.

Just with the roads and the wear and the climate

and everything.

I'm going to say driving over here is so much better

than Melbourne, like it

flows much better.

Even the simplest

thing, and I have seen some parts

in Melbourne, they're starting to do it, but over

here it's everywhere.

You're coming to these roundabouts that have got

seven exits.

But the road,

but the one you want,

like is written on the road, the lane to be

is written on the road in front of you.

You just select the road you want

and it just all works, it's just incredible.

And everyone indicates as they leave,

as they're leaving the roundabout, which

is fantastic.

So it's,

it flows really, really well.

I wouldn't have any quumps

recommending anybody drive over here if they're coming

over.

It sounds daunting, but a lot of

the bigger roundabouts too have traffic lights.

So you actually

flow around the roundabout

with the traffic lights and you've got the

lane or the road you want to take

is written on the road in front of you

and you just stay in that lane and it just sweeps

onto it, it's brilliant.

And you're on the right side of the road,

you know.

Yeah, that's right, that's right.

How are you going? I'm doing alright, doing alright.

Took the STI out for a

drive on,

I think it was a Sunday of Christmas.

Battery was flat.

Not unexpected.

And this time it was dead for real.

I put the trickle charger on it.

It wasn't having it.

I'm like, well, good thing I have a battery

here ready to go. So I clunked that one

on, you know, built it down, started

up and then gave it about

five minutes just to equalise.

Probably months and then

went on my way up to Wallin.

Had a pretty good drive, pretty smooth.

And it had like a layer of dust on it.

That was probably half an inch thick.

A lot of that got

swept off as you. Well, it's a lot of that did, but

like everyone could see it driving them.

I was hoping nobody would like walk around and just

wash me on them. Don't you dare ruin that paintwork.

Paintwork's still good underneath.

It's good dust.

It's a protective layer.

I gave that a nice blast off

on the way home.

And that was quite nice. You know, get back into the STI.

Got to get on some boost.

Yeah. Just a little bit as a treat.

I didn't fill up with fresh fuel, so I didn't go too hard.

I'll say it for the

as a treat. So for the next

probably trip, because I think I'm just under half

a tank, I'll fill up with fresh fuel and then have

at it. The D-Max.

So a little while back, I bought

wiper blades for it. When I consulted

the Michelin guide, because

I bought Michelin blades from Costco.

And it said, hey, you need

22s on the

driver's side. I think, yeah.

And then 16 inches on the passenger side.

Which is fine. Grab them.

And they don't quite fit.

Like, what do you mean?

So I've got the D-Max outside. We'll see you on the way out.

Yeah.

Like when they're in the resting position, they're almost

hanging off the windscreen.

Oh, so they're too long. Yeah.

They're a problem. Did you

measure them up to the old ones? Yes.

You compared? So

the passenger side one

is technically the old one was shorter.

But the driver's side one was longer

than what I have gotten.

So the driver one I should have gotten 23 inches

and this one technically maybe 15.

But looking at other guides

it seems that 16 by

22 or 16 by 23 will do.

Or 16 and 23 inches.

And it's just maybe

a few of the places like I looked at

could all super cheap.

And they actually ask you to specify

if you're going to go for the X-Terrain

or the high spec models

because they have the actual

spray and jet on the wipers.

Whereas

I'm assuming the ones I got recommended from Michelin

screw you French bastards

were obviously the ones for the hook type.

Yeah, that makes sense.

So that's probably where my issue is arising.

So I'll probably run these through until they

wear out. I'm a little ashamed

that technically I ran this car

50,000 kms with the one set of wipers.

But I should have probably changed them.

Because in the driver's side corner bit

it was letting go. It was not wiping.

I was like I should have done it, but oh well.

I would have known about it earlier and maybe I could have changed it.

Alan, which car is this on the D-Max?

Yeah, the D-Max.

Hasn't the dealer ever changed the wiper blades

when you've had it serviced? No.

Because Alan always denies.

Don't you dare.

Last service they've changed.

The last service they probably saw

the wiper blades in the back seat

and they're like this guy's not going to go for it.

They're like, yeah, they're right.

That's funny.

But like the funny part is I saw

thanks to some creative pricing

at my local ship ship.

I get an arrow twin set

of the Bosch ones.

It's like 31 bucks anyway.

So that'd be both sides

for 31 all up.

How much is the Costco blades?

I think they're about 17 inch or 18 inch.

So technically, yeah.

So technically I'm paying less money

and they will fit the actual

X-terrain.

Yeah, the X-terrain. So I'm going to get those next.

Again, I'll run these ones through.

I've got them on the car anyway.

I might see if they fit the Subi, because I think the Subi is 22x16 as well.

If it is, I'll just take them off

and put them on the Subi.

Yeah, just run it like that.

Here's hoping it works out well

if the wiper flies off

on the freeway or something.

Needs a new windscreen because it's all scratched.

But those have been my car adventures.

I had a customer come in

last Tuesday or last Wednesday.

That thing was.

And I was like,

look, I got my wipers

changed, but I don't think

they're right. They're scratching my windshield.

I have a look and go and have a look.

It's got an I-30S

and not an I-30 sedan.

And I have a look

and I'm like, who changed them?

He's like, oh, the dealer changed my wipers.

They charged me a lot of money for the change from my last service.

one side's wider,

so they got seven and a half by six.

And then one, like the drive side is seven and a half mil,

and the passenger side is six and a half mil,

which is quite common on cars these days.

They put two six and a halfs

in each side.

So one six and a half in each side, sorry.

And so the metal was just came out of the

the wiper and

butchered the windshield.

And I'm like, I would take it back

to

and get them to get them to

pay for a new screen, pay for a new screen.

Like I put in the right wipers on there.

I said, here, take them back and just say, hey, that's

yeah, pretty cooked.

So he's like, yeah, probably,

they probably got some apprentice to put on.

Like, oh, yeah, this, this will do. You know, bang, bang.

And off you go.

But it was, it was very grateful that I

that I changed it for him and

got that sorted.

But yeah, it's, they're an interesting

thing with thing wipers. Like,

I get customers come in a lot of times like, I'm not

spending $100 a side at Mercedes

for a, for a wipers. That's just has the

Mercedes emblem on there.

When they're made by Bosch and you get the exact same ones,

they just don't have them, you know, like 30 bucks

for the pair. So because my dad was arguing

with me the whole time when I was working on it, you know,

having a bit of a struggle. He's like, why don't you just get

it done for the dealer? I'm like, sir, sir, it's

50 bucks per wiper of the dealer.

Or it's, you know, 30 something all up.

Just you do it ourselves. And he's like, but it didn't work.

I'm like, yeah, we'll make it twice.

I'll still be under the dealer price.

David.

I said, I know a guy.

You can come see that guy and that guy will help you.

And in typical like ethnic fashion, but that's like,

you keep these old ones and we're just going to

change the rubber out of them.

It's not even the ones you can refill.

Yeah.

That's what I'm like, you know, you can't take this off

that if you take it off with breaks.

You'll get the super glue out of it.

I've seen some shocking wipers.

Like you like the actual strips been

ripped off and they've been dropping around.

I'm like, how has it been this bad?

He's like, I've never changed it.

I've had the car 10 years and I'm like, and there's

quite literally nothing.

Stick with the car.

He's like, how often should you show them?

Like every six to 12 months.

They're like, oh, why?

I'm like, the Aussie sun destroys them.

And then you get crows that eat them as well.

Have you guys seen the crows attack the wiper blades?

Yeah, yeah.

It's actually a thing.

They actually love it.

So, yeah, I, yeah,

my eyes have been opened to the wiper game.

But yes.

So D-Max sorted.

It'll do for now,

but I'll probably end up changing them out in six months.

I don't know if everyone

with the skill.

Was this to get a transmission?

The transmission we got all the way from SA didn't work.

It stopped.

But it did stop after it got back from Adelaide,

which is good.

That's a win.

It's not a win to my bank account,

but I did buy another magnet,

which has got everything that I need to do the swap.

Manual swap.

put that car on the road without plates

dash and all the plastics

That's the bigger question.

Early on when that Aspen Green

first came out you could get a brown interior

and then they dropped it

grey.

I'm guessing the grey dash

and door trims have probably faded

to the bluish colour.

You know what?

It's the same blue as your interior.

The dash is

98% sure

that it's blue

unless it looks blue from being dirty

or something.

They were blue.

I think Paul Gutt said

the door cards were from a different car

and the seats may be even

Maybe someone changed the seats.

Yeah, potentially it was a seat

but that interior is ruined

in that car. It's so bad.

It's mouldy and shit.

It's really like it's not

a happy place to be.

You could barely tell it's Aspen Green.

It looks

grey.

Silver even.

All the colour is just being faded away from that car.

So the

exterior is

very sad looking.

Interior is

munted. Exterior is munted.

There's not a lot going on except for

the gearbox.

It's got a manual transmission and the pedal is good to go.

And it works.

This car hasn't been driven in like 10 years

and the guy just

put fuel in it and put a battery on it

and drove it on the highway

out of all places.

And I just

drove it like in my driveway

on the street and it drives fine.

I could have probably driven

it back from maybe not.

But yeah.

It's a drivable car which is so surprising.

It doesn't feel much better.

Were you like oh thank god when you put it in the first gear.

Thank god I can like

shift my gears.

It felt good. I think

the clutch

system needs a definite break

because I bleed sorry

because it was just like with the skins.

I saw the clutch too.

Yeah I need all that stuff.

So clutch cylinder, master and slave cylinder

and lines

and all that good stuff.

But then we'll be able to transfer it over

and then we can make it.

Yeah and then eventually just change that stuff.

So yeah.

That's looking to happen probably in a couple of weeks time

I reckon.

I'm not taking the automatic

gearbox out just yet because I need

to speak to the wreckers who I bought

it from.

For them to try and diagnose it

hopefully. Because I've got like the

Mitsubishi scan now that I got from

Paul.

So they can hopefully just guide me through and be like

yeah it's munted or you haven't

checked the right thing. Because everything that I've

checked even based on the

400 page service

book

is yeah it seems to be that it's

yeah it's like that. Got no drive

so we'll see.

That's going to be

soon. But they're back from holiday next week

so I'll speak to them then and have them

sorted out hopefully.

But give back my money.

my dad's house because it was running out of space

new grill wedgie tail light nice looking

thing this is a one owner

car with a full history and has

travelled the massive amount

of 19,000 K's since

it's a new car

really a new Lexus

but there's always a but

but the elderly

lady has scraped a few things

so it will need some new paint to

make it look more like it's 19,000

K's you know the bumpers

and corners and things

she brail parked

so I'll get

that sorted but other than that

it really has impressed me that car

I've never spent any time in those

and the quality

of it the little

Lexus accoutrements of it

the smoothness the rear drive

chassis

heated cooled seats

it's far better than a 3 series

and you read about them and people

just say nothing goes wrong with them

they're brilliant

so I think those are

a real

they're not even an underdog

but I just think people don't think of them

and he goes oh isn't it just a Camry with another badge

big major service done on the Pajero

and I took that down to our good friend

and listener now Mr Floyd

down in country Victoria

because Floyd knows his

shit

you know compared to going to a dealer

or even a Pajero Mitsubishi

specialist for the big service

you know much cheaper and I'm very

convinced that Floyd does a great job

on things like that

so it's had the valves

adjusted and I said well while we're

kind of in there doing the valves adjusted on the big

service let's pull the intake manifold

off and clean that out because on

those diesels they can often

get pretty clogged up in the intake

and you sort of don't know

it didn't drive badly at all

but you just don't know

fortunately you know he pulled all that apart and said

oh you sent me photos there's a little bit of

soot and stuff in the intake but not

not bad at all really

it's like with 240,000

k's it's done so

he cleaned all that out and put it all back together and adjusted

the valves but I really don't think the intake cleaned

would make a difference

because it wasn't bad

the valve adjust did make

a difference so it was

every 30,000 in those you meant to do that

and he said yeah they're definitely loose and

it's definitely quieter and smoother

you know driving it since

that was done

so very happy with that let's talk about

breakdowns

now

Chad just laughs because he doesn't want to talk about

because Maddy's had a breakdown

but of course I was there because it seems to be

the I don't know last month and a half

well the one that I haven't talked about on this show

I think was the Renault did I talk about that

a few weeks back the yellow the bright yellow Renault

our good friend Tommy

bought a BMW from Ballarat and he said

can you drive it to Ballarat let's hang out get dinner whatever

I said you know drama

I had the choice of many a car to take to Ballarat

but I thought no let's

let's crack on

the yellow Renault that's lying around

let's give that a highway run which it did

very well out on the highway and Tommy was

even commenting gee this car runs well

and I said it does it does

and not too long after that a nice sort of

grinding clunking sound started

emanating the right hand front wheel

area quite metallic

you know go go go go

and I'm thinking it doesn't sound good so we

sort of pull over and have a look

around there's nothing obvious that was

wrong

but you know as soon as you start crawling

is like all right

something's not happy

so we dumped the Renault

ordered an Uber

into Ballarat

for the remaining 20k

accidentally ordered a taxi as well

and so they both

both worked up at the same time

and I had to just pay the taxi some cash

and said sorry mate

they're the drive out of Ballarat

yeah exactly

how did you order a taxi by accident

how does that happen?

the taxi wasn't by accident but Tommy had gone

onto Uber and they just weren't coming so he

assumed it had killed it off but it hadn't

so they looked

and I'm like oh god

do I go in one and you go in the other

what do you do?

sure

the cabbie would be like to the Uber

I'll race you

we're taking it slow as we can

so silly

so we did the car deal on this BMW

drove back to the Renault

I meanwhile ordered an RACV

tow truck

had it towed back to Melbourne the guy was lovely

he's like oh yeah I've got a Cortina

he was into his 70s stuff

so it gets dumped back outside my house

late night and everyone goes to bed

that's it

the next day I thought I'll just take the Renault

around the block and see what it's doing

a little more perfect

not a noise

but how do you go

from having grinding, clunking

like and it's not just me it's not just in my

head Tommy heard it you know

how do you go from that

to being exactly as it was

before like perfect

and I thought I came up with

a theory

which was drive shaft related I thought the drive shafts

have got grease in them

I think it's heat related you know like after

an hour of hot highway driving

whatever it is is you know if there's

grease or no grease in there whatever

not doing what it's meant to do

and your drive shaft bearings and everything

are now clunking around and not being lubricated

that was my theory

and seemingly right

I drove it out to the mechanic and he pulled the drive shaft out

and he said yeah there was

bugger oil grease in that

then they're meant to have sort of half a cup of water inside the boot

bugger oil is probably the original

bloody drive shafts probably never been out of that car

I don't know

so

he filled it with grease and said

I think that has to be the problem because there's nothing

else out there at the wheel that would make

that noise there's no

there's no other problem

you know if it was something in the gearbox

gearboxes don't fix themselves

no

like if something's gone snap or you know

you don't come good it's a bad time

but drive shaft grease heating up and then

cooling down the next day and doing what it's meant

to do at slowest speeds yeah yeah that makes

sense and metal does expand and contract

it gets big on so

so I think it's

nothing to do with that

anyway so the Renault is back

back driving again

I haven't since taken it on a long hot road

trip but I think I'll have to

to kind of prove that it's

back anyway

the 380SEL I've driven that

quite a bit over the

brake that is running really well

it's still got a few little things I want

to get sorted on it but in terms of

a turnkey running car

it's doing everything it should

Matty and I and his brother took on a little run

that was fun

that was a good day

so yeah I'm happy with that

I'll keep playing with a few bits on it

but on that very day

so my brother

he invited us for a bit of a New Year's Eve drive

through some roads and it looked like it was

the apocalypse

the roads we drove on

there was just shit everywhere

tree branches

it was cooked

it was a lot of debris

it was just windy

but it was funny though because the first sign of it was

my brother did a bit of a wrecky before

and he's like yeah fine the rides were perfect

and the day we're going

as we're driving to get to these fun roads

there was a truck

putting rocks on the ground

and so

our car was just getting butchered

and one of the other guys that came out

had an old XE

which was a really lovely car

and he was like

because he had some big dish wheels in the back

and the rocks would get caught in the dish and start pitting

over the wheels

so he had to just wait

so then

we get into these other roads

and I think you and him turned off Edward

because the weather was just

the roads were cooked

we might have just taken a wrong turn I think

so then we met up

for a bit of like a late

breakfast early kind of lunch

we had a bakery

we had a lovely potato pie

in Woodend

and it worked

so I was like that'll do

the guy's like oh you know

that was already and then Chad was like

you craft the individual

and I showed him what I had done

put it back together

so they went to super cheap because I had to get cool

because I was refusing the pie cool

at Repco for the inflated price

got a couple tools that I needed

changed Edward's wipers

and then

oh we were there I mean it was

that makes a lot more sense

where

Ed's taking you to get emergency parts

and while you're there

that's more reasonable

correct

it was meant to be

like a two minute job

just wipe her in, wipe her out

but of course nothing ever is

more like half an hour

yes but look he gave us a good time for the car to completely cool down

which was nice

so when we get back and we're like

okay let's install this

so the reason why I went to Repco

to see what they had was because

the fittings that we've got at super cheap

we didn't have those bigger range and they had a bit more of a range at Repco

and it was enough to get me home

it all worked

I then got to super cheap and ordered myself

just because

in case my fix was

not great but that's

totally that's

my fix was I think better quality

it all a fix and that's a brass fitting not a plastic fitting

correct a brass fitting

awesome

so the air flow that I've got is a

anodized aluminium one

which is apparently meant to outlive the car

but I think the brass one will be fine

so then we reinstalled it

it took about two and a half litres

it did drop a fair bit

we were like okay

now it's time for an ice cream

because we're broken down at the front of an ice cream shop

we went and got ice cream

what do you do

you've had this day you've had the potato pie

you've had a lunch at the bakery

you've had the ice cream

that was a solid day

and then that night

went obviously for

a new year's dinner

where it was like a proper Italian

his parents put on a lovely

they just bring food

we look hungry

we had lasagna

but before that we had the anti-pasta

honestly if it holds under a bit more pressure

so I got it on some boost

happy days got me home

sorted perfectly

the issue was the car smells like

coolant because

it leaked onto the exhaust manifold

which is white with a turbo

both the whole car smells

like absolute coolant

so I spent the next well I got home and runced it all

all it off

still smells like coolant

so then I spent the following day

new year's day this was my new year's day

about 6 hours

detailing the engine bay just to

you run it from a clean to like oh I could probably clean it a bit more

to a full blown engine

diesel

just went 2 days

stuff's like why are you still here

I got my little brush and she's like

coming down in the heart for the air

6 hours later

so it is

you could eat off the engine bay in that car at the moment

I'm proud of it

I mean I probably didn't need to go that far

but it did get all over the

shop I just couldn't quite get underneath

where the

k-frame is to get all that coolant on there

so it is going in for a service on Thursday

so

I also had a look

can you just give it a quick wipe

cause coolant goes like weirdly sticky

after a while then all the stuff sticks to it

so it's a yuck

and it smells like

glycol

but it's also like it's sticky

and when it explodes it goes all white

there was like paint everywhere in the air

disgusting

well yeah sure it was a coolant mate

more than you spending 6 hours in the air

so anyway

I've detailed

the living Scheisenhausen out of that engine bay

and it looks better than I'd say new

so

I'm quite proud of it

I should be for like 6 and a bit of hours

of doing that

I want to see it

it then got to the point where I was like

well the radiator support mounts

don't look that good because

everything else looks mint and these have got some surface rust

so I took them off, wire wheeled them

filled them

high filled them, sanded them back

coated them

they look mint, the battery tie down

had a speck of rust so wire wheeled that as well

got it done, I did a bit of David Prinzing

I think

I put it all back on

and everything was fine, put the battery clamp back on

perfect, put the left side

radiator mount on, happy days

put the right one on and as soon as

I timed it up a little bit too much

the paint all broke

and it was like no

and I wasn't

then enough

I wasn't very happy

and Steph was like, are you okay

I just yelled a bit

in the garage as I was like

no

so then that came back off again

wire wheeled

took it back and redid it

but it's not perfect, I want to buy another one

to redo

I've got a bit anal with it in the end

and it bumps up the compression ratio

giving them more power

which equates to

about an extra 4 tenths

taken off around a track

this is ridiculous

it's unfair for the sport

and FIA came back and said

it's fine because we

don't measure it when they're driving so it's

allowed

they suspect that FIA

are complaining a lot the most

because they don't know how to do it
