There's a professional radio. That's front wheel drive so.
Have you got anyone you want to thank?
Just myself. And now I do the after hours,
gentlemen. What would you go for?
They see us in there. OK.
And because it's not a super duck, it is, it's not automatic.
Perfection comes in the form of two letters A&U.
Long live my Ltd. We're going to Car Talk.
It's shoes are not here. It's me, Maddie J online with Mr
Scotty Doe Johnson, Mr Edward Bunting, Mr. David Prince and Mr
Chad Debelle. How are you guys?
Good. Evening.
Thank you. Didn't.
Well, thank you very much. Did you notice that Ed Chad had
a last name today? Just yeah.
Yeah, Chad LaBelle. No dumbbell.
David. What did you say?
Dub Dumbbell. Oh my God, here we go.
See, it's he mentioned that last week.
For I did, yeah. No, I did.
I did. Yeah.
I forgot I forgot the name but yeah, I like dumbbell.
I'll change it just for you, right you look.
Like you could lift a few dumbbells, Chad, you're a, you know, strong guy. No, you know, I've been known.
To lift. Oh, I've been known to lift you
a shopping bag, you know. Yeah, exactly.
It's pretty rich coming from you, Ed.
What do? You mean?
Yeah. Oh yeah, erectile.
Dysfunction. That's right.
I remember that guy. Let how are we all let's get
into some car updates Scotty Doe how how are you man updates with you. I'm keen for this, Scotty.
You're keen for this one. Yeah, 'cause Classic Japan's on
Sunday. Yeah, so I should be all good
for classic Japan 2025 weeks. Oh no.
As I said, you know it should be Scotty.
Where are we? Working towards wasn't I Classic
Japan 2025? I give you the exact date
actually. You bet if you like.
Yeah, I just said I'll be ready for classic Japan.
All right, what's happened, Scotty?
Well, the annoying thing is I guess when I was working on it on Sunday is that it's in a carport and there's a bit of rain, so it was rather wet under there.
So I'm working while it was on, while it was a little bit wet, transmission still didn't want to go in.
I reckon I had maybe another. 20.
To 30 mil left to get it in and it just would not go the rest of the way. And I thought, hmm, maybe I'll,
I'll take it out and I'll just double check again with the the alignment tool. So I got the alignment tool.
It's just one of the just the plastic ones.
And it would go, it would go in. I don't know how well it's meant
to go all the way in or whatever because I've never done it before. But if I get it on the right
angle and just a little notch up, we'll go pop and go straight in. But I don't know how far it's
meant to push all the way in, but it seemed to go in well and then pull it back out and you know it was going in and out.
And it came out again. That's a good thing.
Yeah, I mean, it came, Yeah, it came back out again.
And I could, you know, I did it a few more times.
And then I thought, well, I'll do a little trick that I saw on Chris fix it when he did a video of one where you put it in there and then you get a texter and you mark it along the line of the teeth. And then you can put it up
against the transmission and adjust it the teeth so then the spline so that it will line up perfectly.
So I thought I'd do that. And then I'm under there trying
to Jack it up and get it in there and wiggle in there.
I couldn't get it back in there at all.
It's still hanging out by a fair bit.
You can get it up to the splines to go in.
For me, I got 2 jacks underneath it and I just, I couldn't, I was, there's quite a lot of quite a lot of swearing.
Parents could hear me from inside.
I'm swearing in my head off. So quite a lot of foul language.
Scott, keep it down, please. Think of the neighbours.
I'm sure they hurt some of it. I'm sure they got home and they
were outside. They would have heard some See
you next Tuesday's dropped. It it would have been oh it's
just Scotty having another domestic with the car again.
Yeah, pretty much. And Oh my God, I'm just like
lifting the whole bloody thing up by myself, like the whole weight of it and wiggling and trying to get anything and it just busted. Would not just line up.
Now I'm just thinking maybe the engines obviously tilted now because of it, that I just need to have that back end bit dropped all the way down and then maybe it should go all the way. Because I'm thinking maybe when
I had it almost in, it was up too high and it won't go all the way in because I'm listing the engine up at the same time, if that makes sense. So I'm putting extra strain on
the transmission spline and the engine at the same time.
So I need to relax that a bit to drop it down and then push it in the rest of the way and then Jack it all the way up, if that makes sense. I don't know if that makes
sense. The way I explained it in my
head, it makes sense. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, you need the engine to tilt back a little bit so that it lines up with the input shaft.
Yeah. So yes, the engine's obviously
hanging down there. And I think what I could have
done or what I did do the first time is I've pushed it in and then I've gone, OK, it's gone in a bit and I can't wiggle it in the rest. So what I've done is it looked
like I needed to Jack up the back a bit higher.
And because I've done that, it's lifted up everything else as well. Yeah, yeah.
If I've done that, then there's no way it's going to allow me to get it in because you're putting that extra strain in the middle part. I need that to be relaxed and
then have it hanging all the way down.
And then I can lift up the back and find the right spot and wiggle it in from there myself. But yeah, I'm I'm pretty beat up
and and sore from like laying on that bloody concrete and I got all wet and everything from laying on the concrete.
Imagine the sense of bride bloody satisfaction you'll have that when it goes in. Oh, the amount of joy, yeah.
I mean if it goes in bloody. So who are you getting a ride
with on Sunday? You know, I'm guessing you need
a lift. No, you can bring the oh, no,
it's close. It's close to Japan as a new
company. Classic it's.
Close to Japan, yeah, but I can still just park it 20.
Five years or older. Yeah, bring the blade.
And swap, I mean that's what that's what I did previous years and stuff is just. Yeah.
I'll drive the Subaru and just parked it on the side.
Park in the visitors area. But if the rain stays away and
the concrete's drying and taking another crack at it tomorrow night. OK.
OK after work hopefully I'm not as sore, got some bruises and stuff on me but. So what will you do differently
tomorrow night? Some more swearing and stuff.
I don't know. Wednesday, 75% chance of rain.
Yeah, but not Sunbury. Sunbury doesn't really get much
rain. Oh.
Sunbury's separate. And Sun is in the name.
It's in the name that's. In the name.
Sunbree. Yeah, not Rainbree.
Yeah, I think what I'll do differently is just more swearing, probably. Mac, go around and help Scott.
What I'll do is I'll just make sure the rear parts dropped.
A lot further, yeah. Or just pull the whole motor
out, bolt the box on, then just put the whole lot back.
In Yeah. I've seen that.
Make it sound easy, but I can tell you now.
Is that not an option though? Like if you it's not, it's too
hard to go gearbox in first I think.
I think that's kind of doomsday scenario for Chad.
Sorry for Scotty. Look, I wouldn't, I wouldn't do
that. I'd prefer to just to blow up
the car than having to remove that stuff that blow the car.
Up. But I don't really think if we
can't get in this time, what we'll do, like, I'll come around and, you know, try to give you a hand with it.
But if we can't do it from there, we should get it onto a, onto a hoist. Like just just we, we know a guy
who'll be on later on the show. We can say, can you borrow your
hoist for, I don't know, a few hours?
20 minutes. And then we can all just line it
up and click it in and then put it together.
And yeah, that should be good. So bolts.
Bolts, yeah. I.
Think you might still have the same issue though on the hoist is it's the fact that you need to tilt the engine back a bit.
It's probably going to be your best bet just thinking from a logistical point of view, Like you know those things that the support bars you can buy for just sit on top of the looking across your have that hooked up drop that take the amount out from the like the rear mount and pipe that you can get it like tilted as much as you can. That's whether you do that on a
hoist or on the in the garage might not make a difference.
It's just annoying because I saw the video of the guy doing it and he just like manhandles it and wiggles it in and pops it in. I'm like what is this, like
fire? And he's a beast.
I could. Do it, Can you?
Post that video. I could sit there and I could do
it for a little bit and manhandle it and stuff and I was like, eat, break, need a break? So what does the E box weigh in
for one of those? Have you got any idea what it
actually weighs I. Don't know, probably good 40
something kilos. Yeah, would have to be 4050.
Kilos. It's not as heavy as the Auto
one that was in it, though. The Auto 1 was heavier.
OK, yeah, it was a heavy bugger. Even with the converter removed
in it, it's pretty heavy. Probably because it still had
quite a lot of the fluid in it I think.
Yeah. But I mean, we put it out for
metal collection, they took it. Exactly.
Oh. Wow, as soon as I removed it and
stuff I was like, mum, what do you want me to dump this?
It's like I've got a note they're doing metal collection.
The next day I was like, oh sick, I'll just check front lawn and see if they take it or not. And they did so.
There's a lot of good metal in that.
Yeah, could be. Yeah, why not?
I feel that I sell it to someone.
I go here, I have a transmission because I cut all the wiring and she broke everything off of it. Well, Saturday morning I might
have some time before I go to cricket, so I might pop down and say yes Scotty. The cut?
That's fine. Better late than never, Better
late than never. Yeah, I mean, I haven't bought
a, a, a ticket yet. Or Scott, here's a secondary
option, given that Skyline is a a long shot, you have to buy a car between now and so now it can be cheap, you know, but just something of the ilk to take to class of Japan.
That's today's topic we find Scott I'll.
Give you that challenge. I'll give you 5.
Years do it again after, but you've just gotta.
Usually. Give me that, give me a
challenge, then like you give me the money and that's a challenge for me to go and then purchase it.
I'll talk after Maybe I'm I'd be up.
But what if, what if we all pitched in a little, you know, and we'll sell it again, but just some just so Scotty, get out. I mean, I'd go 500 in.
I think we could actually come up with another car we could take between all of us. I think there's a few 25 year
old Japanese cars lying around with you about.
About 7:00 or 8:00 or something, I think.
Yeah, you can lend one of your cars to him for the day that's.
True, I can, actually. It's a long way to Sunbury,
though. Elizabeth And do you even trust
me driving them? Yeah, yeah, you'd be fine.
Oh gosh. Chad.
Maybe like going along? Punching with the gear.
Come on professional driver forcing.
It into gear, I just wouldn't go into second.
I just really have to force it. My friend, Speaking of that, you
know, Tommy who's been on once or twice maybe is he's got an old Land Rover like a 1962, you know, series Land Rover Ute very original rust free car. But it's, it's sat for a lot of
years. So whilst it's healthy, you
know, in the body and mechanics. Anyway, some some often inquired
on it on on Gumtree and wanted to have a pre purchase inspection done. So I had it, you know, flat
bedded to a mechanic in up near Bendigo where it is and had it checked out and the report came back and and actually said it was, you know, it's by and large a very sound example.
But I said oh, was blowing smoke and 2nd gear synchro's gone and Tom was like, I got in oh that's right.
And couldn't Rd test 'cause it wouldn't go over 20 miles an hour. And talking to Tom and he said
they left it in low range like. Didn't.
Go over 20 miles an hour. They left the choke pulled fully
out. Of course it was blowing smoke.
You gotta push that back in and then it's fine and 2nd gear on those. It ain't got no Synchro.
Never did. Never.
Did. Double clutch into second.
So it was like the three, the three faults they picked kind of like user error. Oh, jeez.
Yeah, funny. Other than that.
OK, Yeah. That's, that's ridiculous.
That's yeah. It's just funny.
Did he end up selling it or? I don't know.
I don't know. This guy was coming to have a
look and. Oh, no, sorry, That was the
first guy who didn't buy. This is another one's coming to
have a look. So he's had a bit of interest in
it. So, you know, it hasn't been a
quick seller. But yeah, if you wanted one of
those series, Land Rover Utes it's, it's a very honest, original car with no rust. So, yeah, it's got a bit of
patina about it, but it doesn't have rot.
And so many of them are, yeah. Is it?
People trying to sell like R31 skylines with some very nasty looking rust up on up on the roof and on the side and stuff like that. There's someone trying to sell
one not long ago for like 6 grand sure and it had this horrible just rust where it is just eaten through it.
Yeah, but. If this is the word skull and
it's worth big money, Scotty, that's that's the it's.
Stupid. That's the rule.
Even just the cabin between the between the A&C pillows probably worth that money. But anyway, that's your updates
goody. That is it.
Nothing on the blade front, nothing new.
It's still being beautiful. That's what you want.
That's that's being a Toyota Chad.
Updates with you my friend. Oh, I I've not done much on the
cars in terms of like mechanical stuff.
I just did a bunch of cleaning last weekend.
Yeah, just like a, like a paint correction on the I-30.
Not, not a correction, but, you know, just like a decontamination. Can't Polish or that.
Yeah, no, I replaced the door in the ceiling.
I think I might have talked about the last time I was on, but I still have not got around to swapping out the lock, the the handle of the lock. So currently I have to go in
through the passenger side like a, like someone from a, you know, a bit of a crappy area and unlock the car from the other side. So I've got to get around to
doing that. Apart from that, yeah, just not
much else going on with cars at the moment of coming up to Christmas. Kind of like a bit of a bit of a
rock. Yeah.
You didn't get to hill climb the final one of the year, the nationalism. No, no, I was, I was thinking
about taking the Sylvia, but I just had too many things on that weekend and couldn't make it work.
So yeah, that's that's the end of the Nuggets, unfortunately.
I mean, just as you know, Nuggets as it's been for the last 10 years. But yeah, it'll be plenty more
stuff to do next year. Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah. Were you in a clay bar Chad to
do the I30? I did.
The first time I did it I used the clay bar and then this time I used one of those clay pads the like a.
You know, synthetic ones, the. Other one?
Yeah, the synthetic. 1. Yeah.
I bought, I bought. I can't remember the brand.
It might have been sorry not, but it was a Repco Eclipse 1 and it wasn't too bad, but it just picks up so much that eventually you don't have to get rid of it. So I had ordered like a 10 pack
of chippies from Amazon. So there's just like this size
like sort of like little blocks. And they're good because they, I
think they're supposed to be, you know, just disposable.
So you use it and then you just sort of throw it away and get another one. But that turned out pretty good.
I don't think it left me deep scratches in the paint or anything like that. So yeah, it was cheap and nasty,
but it did the job. And yeah, the paint, paint
definitely felt beats better afterwards, just like soft and you know, no, no, no bad like sort of texture or anything.
So yeah, that worked pretty well.
Nice. The the mothers one works really
good too. OK.
Well, we'll try that one next. The the one with the like you
can like you've put. Your holes nice, yeah, holes,
yeah, cups in your Oh, it's an. Ergonomic.
Yeah, it's good. It's.
Good. Yeah, I found that doing that
for a couple of hours, you know, and it really does take a toll on your. Yeah.
It does hands. And arms.
Yeah. Yeah, the mothers ones are
really good. You can keep going for a while,
doesn't. I'll try that.
Yeah. Mother, this one.
I mean, I, I know a guy, but you know, like you seem to be shopping elsewhere these days. It was once, Matt, come on.
You're, you're cheating on me, mate.
You're cheating on me. I'm sorry mate, I'll come back.
No, I'm just, I'm just, I'm walking around with you mate.
Edward Bunting updates with you. Hello, I've just received a
disturbing text. You might find this amusing.
So today we're at work and this is not to do with cars, but it's sort of just me. My colleague at work said that
you can ring his friend's clinic where his friend's friend works or something, And it's an automated chat bot on reception, like, and he was doing it to show good how how good that AI is. Now, this is a psychology
clinic. And so it's like, oh, would you
like to make an appointment? And it's like, yeah, I'm just
feeling really down. And, you know, it's like, I'm
being silly, you know, doing this to to get responses from the chat bot. And I said a few things that
were probably controversial to the chat bot.
And it responded really well. Like, I'm sorry you're feeling
that way. Would you like this?
Or did you know, like he was very clever.
And after he was like, oh, OK, that's cool.
That's clever. He's just texted me.
With an email response saying saying they'd almost set off a chain of events including a call to 000 like an emergency, like this patient is not they're trying to book in and they're really not. Well, Oh my God.
OK anyway then I just got the the update.
It was under his phone so they knew that it was it was my colleague. Sorry bit of a rant.
Anyway us last week I forgot one important update.
One thing that we haven't talked about for a long long time and I haven't really looked at for a long long time is that old Renault 16 from the 60s where I was getting the motor rebuilt.
I think come towards the end of another year.
I really should message the engine builder guy and just, you know, see if he's thrown it out or used it as a boat anchor or.
Is it still there? You know, skip the country.
Still alone. Yeah.
What's what's going on with that?
And he did respond and he sent me a photo of a very brand new looking block head chain oil philtre on all of that.
And he said, oh, I'm about to go on one holidays, I'll finish it when I get back. And I was like, oh, well, that's
better than we have had. So it was looking real schmick
and he's a very particular guy. So I, you know, I, I have no
question about the work that he's doing.
It's just it's not done in a time frame that I might desire.
But then again it was in, you know, during tougher Financial Times and I was kind of happy to not pay him too much money.
So I have done that in instalments.
You know, he's done work sent me an invoice, done work, sent me an invoice. So it's.
It's a pretty good way. To do it.
Not like I'm going to get an insane bill at the end of it because I've kind of paid for most of it already.
So yeah, hopefully that's an early new year return to me, which means that car can maybe kick on in 2025.
That could be a little, could be a little Scotty and Ed, you know, another Scotty and Ed race of, you know, will the Renault be back on the Skyline? I would like to think the
Skyline would be soon but. You'd want to really hope so.
The skyline's been like seven or eight years in the making, but.
It's all right. We're getting there, Scotty,
We're getting there. The Renault is similar in a time
I think it haven't you? It probably is.
What else have I done? Service month, You know, I'm
being a bit more relaxed with service month this this time round. I'm not I'm not watching, I'm
not beating myself up about it. You know I'm just like doing it
at my pace. So I've got the Tarraga back.
I'll do that this week and then take it to classic Japan.
I've got all the other oil philtres They came in.
So I went and picked those up for the remaining vehicles and then I'll, I'll just chip through them.
But realistically, you know, we finish work late December.
If it if it drags into those few days and I sort them out, then well, fine, whatever. I think that's about it.
No grand. Nothing else really in the car
would haven't. No, I've still got the Peugeot.
I've just been driving it around.
Yeah. Nothing else.
Favourite Prince? I have I lost drive on the
weekend. I attempted to do the mail
burgering, which is across the region Spur and the Black Spur on Sunday with a group of people that I know actually turned up in the end one pretty horrible weather pouring with rain at the start to be great and then I was the only cat.
I was the first car there thought oh happened the right spot because they had changed the meet up and then recession of Porsches arrived. GT3 and a 202911 career 4S AKN.
There were a couple of Caymans. There was a black 3 black Audis,
a white A5 coupe and a WRX. And I thought, what if these
people are the people I meant to be going on a drive with?
These are not my people. People and like, you know, a
little orange and one sort of stood out a bit like a beacon amongst the 50 Shades of grey that were the rest of the cars.
There in a very. Good way in.
A great way in a great way so. And you look at the thrills that
you get for the money you spent and dare I say, David Prince, you are winning all the way to the bank.
Thank you very much. I I thought exactly the same and
there've been a few little memes popping around this week.
The the slow car, fast, fast car slow comparisons and it's it's a really a thing. I mean it.
So some of those cars were worth probably 20 times what my car cost me. They weren't having 20 times the
fun. That's for.
Sure. No way.
And the, we've said it before, but the expectation that comes with spending more is so high for a lot of people.
You know, you, you really think you spend 101, fifty, 202, fifty, whatever on a car, you know, you really have a very high bar of what this thing's going to bring you or do for you. And when it rattles and creaks
and drops oil or something gets scratched on it like every other car, like every car will, you know, you're really disappointed. Whereas the cheaper car you're
like, meh, isn't it great for the money?
Isn't it? Isn't it still fun sort of
thing? We we got to the, we got to a
coffee stop at Warburton and for the first time we ended up coming back to that Vicroads. For some reason the guy that
organised it checked all the traffic sites and the roadblock sites and the Victoria roads live updates and everything but none of them actually mentioned that there was a bike race on across and stir a reef and spur like a push bike race.
Push bike race, yeah. So the turn off to to Marysville
was closed. The road was closed for the bike
race. So who's?
Running that, David. Sorry, who?
Was running the bike race? Was it a big it?
Was. I all had numbers on them and it
was, you know, one of the one number we we passed because of course we had to pass all the bikes and that the road's pretty narrow. So we you'd all bunch up and
then you'd 1 by 1. You'd get around them sort of
thing. But you know there were 4 figure
numbers on some of the bikes, 1026 and stuff but so this.
Is this is not just some gang of friends out for a ride?
This is so anyway, maybe a little bit more planning down the track might, you know, might show up what it actually is.
But anyway, had a great time. But yeah, it was funny when we
all pulled up at the at the coffee stop and we came back to the same coffee stop, actually, and the guy came out and yeah, he was only interested in one car and wanted to know all about it and where it was German. So yeah, that was that was cool.
But there was I talked to some talked to everyone on the on the day and there were just so many things that Geelong Revival.
It was last weekend, the motors and masterpieces, I think it was called at. Yeah, which there'd been a lot
of stories circulating around about that and the numbers attended, or rather the lack of numbers that attended.
I saw some photos of it through a Benz guy.
We both have seen David with his pagoda, but it it was like a display or you know, was it a it was.
It was I've I've heard, and I can't confirm this, but that it was done by the team that did Motoclassica.
So it was that sort of just there were different categories and cars were awarded prizes and stuff.
It was in a big shed, big tin shed out of the Showgrounds this year. Not a great venue, no.
It was, it was interesting. It was quite expensive to go.
There were people, oh really? A website saying it was $60.00
for a day. Ticket to go not.
For 60 bucks. Nah, the old exhibition building
where they used to have motor classica was.
Do they still do motor classica or is that gone now?
That's that's part of the reason why this this event.
OK, OK. I mean, that was a great
location and. That was part of the charm of
it, I think. Yeah, part of the charm of it,
and it wasn't insane money to get in.
It might have been half that, might have been 30 or 25 or something. Yeah, yeah, Well, I think, I
think they dropped all the prices on the website in the week leading up to it. And I heard they were pretty
keen to get some more cars there.
They didn't feel they had enough cars.
And if you saw any photos, they were quite well spaced out, you know. Yeah.
Yeah, I did think that, yeah. So yeah, it was, it was a shame,
but I mean, it was a shame that in classic the Geelong revival is a brilliant event. You know, it was a shame they
actually conflicted because I mean, you couldn't really have gone to the two in the well, certainly in the day, but even over the course of the weekend, if you're committed to one with your car, you wouldn't be able to get it to to do.
Yeah, anyway, it's a busy time of year.
It seems every weekend there's there's multiple things on, but I certainly had a good time. The other funny thing that
happened to me in the last couple of days, you probably will. Oh well, I have talked on the
podcast about it. Two years ago we sold the the
Honda Accord that the car club restored to an interesting person who was quite disappointed that it it hadn't actually just been assembled at the Saitama plant and delivered directly to him. It was in fact a 45 year old car
and he has a new owner. So he he's he was planning on
keeping it forever, but he's obviously decided to move it on.
And the club got an email yesterday from the person that bought it, who thinks it's the best thing they've ever had.
And they absolutely love the standard to which it was restored and they are to have it.
Would we possibly have any other photos of it while it was being restored? He wants to put together a bit
of a story of the history of the car, so.
All Interstate or in Victoria again or I've.
Asked the question how did it end up in Tassie and yeah, so maybe the this current custodian is a more suitable custodian the. So that guy just seemed like he
wanted, you're right, like a brand new car, like he was just I've never said I've never seen a person like that before.
Like that's, that's insane. Yeah, I think the disappointing
thing was and and even when it was been advertised in the last couple of months on a couple of pages and multiple people have sent it to me, but there was quite an epistle about the car and about, you know, number of references to the previous owners and that. Annoyed me.
Oh, it was, it was very passive aggressive.
It was, it was quite a bit. Enough time has has passed that
I could actually smile as I read it, thinking wow, OK.
But it's like, mate, you should have looked at it when the club got it, you know, like. He he made not one attempt to he
was. Literally ready to go to scrap,
you know, like it was, it was that point and you know, the club has saved it and made it run properly and made it look really nice and. Yep, Yep.
Is it $100,000 concourse restoration?
No, the God damn Honda Accord. You know, like, awesome.
I look forward, I look forward to updating people with that a bit more. And of course, I never told the
story to the guy that bought it of how the owner's manual popped up on yeah, placed two days before he got the car.
And I actually reunited that car with its original owner's manual and being found in an op shop. So, you know, I'll be happy to
tell the new owner that story, but and wasted on the on the previous owner. So yeah, I think that's about
me. We're also joined by the one and
only Rob Zadai. How are you, Rob?
Good. Thank you.
How are we all? Good.
You've got. You've got axe, you've got axe,
you've got Axel there, I say. And I've got Deb.
There. Oh, Deb.
Hey, Deb, how are you? How you doing, mate?
You've. Been well, good, good.
Yeah, yeah, we just come back from a week long trip up north on the motorcycle. Went to the Geelong Revival on
the weekend. Was he talking about that?
It was pretty quiet, I thought. They were.
They were all. Motors and masters.
Is that where they were? No, I don't think so.
Yeah, so it. Was unfortunate.
The weather for both of the events, like Saturday was stinking hot and then of course Sunday was raining terribly.
So both of the events suffered I think, because of that.
Yeah, so not as many cars as previous years, but it's still still good. It was easier to walk around and
easier to find parking. So it's all good.
It's all good. Yeah.
That's pretty much what else have been doing.
Not much else with cars. How was your bike trip?
Yeah, the bike trip was good. So we, we've done about 3000
kilometres all the way up to the, the sort of the central table lands, northern NSW up, what's the place called?
Wild car if you've ever heard of the place up near Tamworth, up through there, fantastic country.
Then we went down to Port Macquarie and then worked our way down the coast and then back over Kuma, Jindabyne and Barry Way. So it was pretty good.
Very nice cool drive ride. Yes, car wise, well, I don't
think we've been doing anything with the cars.
Your car's gonna be a movie. Oh, yeah, my, I've been sort of.
My car's been sitting there quite a bit, the van.
So I put it on Turo. Have you ever heard of that?
Yeah, it's been real. Well, I've been getting pretty
good clientele out of it and good money for the van.
And at the moment it's actually being filmed in the movie.
Oh. Wow.
OK, So what? What movie?
Can you can. You disclose?
What? What's the movie called, Dave?
I can't. Remember what the name of the
movie it's based on A. Book.
It's based on a book and it's a thriller.
Is it sort of like based on that, you know, Outback where that guy took, you know, no. No, no, no.
It's not something. It's not like that.
Wolf Creek, kind of. Creek.
No, no, no, it's not Wolf Creek. No, it's.
It's been used as a a. Basically ATV van and they got
to put stickers on it to say it's a news crew from the the, it's AUS. It's going to be sort of based
in the US but filmed in Melbourne.
Yeah, Yeah. Cool.
Yeah. Interesting.
They said they've done some filming outside Federation Square and out of Channel 9 Studios.
Yeah, at the movie studio now. Currently it's up in Hastings,
Up that way all. Right, OK.
So it's a backdrop in a movie prop and a kid goes missing or something like that. And yeah, so people.
Move into this this suburb. The kid makes friends with the
little boy from school. She drops the kid off as a for a
play date, picks him, goes to pick him up an hour later.
The person who actually owns a house.
Wasn't the person that she dropped the kid off at so the kids gone missing? Oh wow.
Anyway, that's that's. We're going to see this on, on,
on, you know, crime scene investigations.
Or something. Yeah, yeah.
Who knows? Who knows?
Dakota Fanning is in it, Yeah. Dakota Fanning, Yeah.
Yeah, So there you go. I don't know.
Anyway, we'll see. I'll let you know when it's in
the movie like this. We can't.
Of all the cars that you owned, did you ever picture that the Transit van blood? That's.
The that's the one that goes to the movie.
Not the Mustang, not the Merc coupes, none of that.
Nah, the Transit van. So this guy is the is a props
guy and he's got a lot of cars in his library of cars.
So he's got Camaros and Mustangs and he's actually in a bottle of these cars that he didn't rinse back out to the movie studios when they make movies in Melbourne.
Well, that's pretty cool. So there you go.
And I I I mentioned that I've got a few other cars.
So if you ever want any more cars, you know, coming.
Yeah. Did they work on any other cars?
No, not really. No.
That's pretty much it. Very good mate, very good
updates with me. Not a lot, same as last week.
I've been flat out with, with work and more work and reports and everything. So I'm pretty under the pump at
the moment. It's just a busy time of year so
I haven't really had a chance to have a bit of a play with anything. But that will hopefully change
in the next week or so, which would be, which would be be nice. Yeah.
Gentlemen, couple of things I want to talk to you about tonight. Scotty had of the first thing
you want to mention, you wanted to mention about Jaguar's new logo. It has become the how would you
explain it? The butt of all jokes in in the
automotive industry as of late. And even people, people will be
making videos. Rest in peace, Jaguar, you know,
from whenever it started to like 2024, you know, it's, it's, it's all this, you know, kind of thing.
Your take on the new logo, gentlemen.
I think the the actual logo of it is very cheap.
I could have made that. Yeah.
In Canva I think your. Kids probably could have.
Such a basic font and to think they would have spent millions of dollars for someone to make that is ridiculous.
You don't even have the actual Jaguar on there anymore.
A leaper, it's called. It just looks like someone said
that it looks like the same font in that that you have for Priceline set out exactly like that priceline.
I don't have capital letters in the middle of the word, so do they? Yeah.
It's like the, the ad makes no sense at all.
I mean, we're dealing with cars, I think I, I don't, I don't know what they're doing. The small picture that we got of
a car that they're going to introduce to have a look at.
Obviously it's just going to be a concept and that's as far as we'll go. Looks pretty crazy.
I've got a kind of idea of what it's going to look like and I don't think you were ever going to see a car that'll look like that. It'll just be some crazy concept
thing. You know, there's been a lot of
flak towards that. What's his name?
Santino something or other. He's copped a lot of flak too,
for people saying that they branded it as like a woke, a whole woke thing. Everyone's talking about it.
I guess whether it's is negative, still a good thing.
You know, the majority of it's negative, but everyone's talking about it. We were saying at work, you
know, this is the most publicity Jag I've had in a long time.
Yeah, yeah, talking. About it here when someone
brought it up at work, it's it's everywhere.
I had a. Marketing review that it's, it's
sort of half worked already. Yeah, exactly like people are
talking about Jags. Which is, which is quite funny
because we were talking the other week about about Kia.
And how they're, they're like, well, we wanted to shock the people. We wanted people to, to not
like, you know, to talk about our, our new Tasman design.
This is kind of the same thing, but with, you know, the brand of the whole company. And yeah, it's just, it's
interesting to, to see them do that.
And, and a lot of people are saying, yeah, this is, this is the biggest thing that's happened to, to pretty much a dying company for the last, you know, 30 years.
So, yeah, interesting. Definitely interesting, I think.
Because all the actual old Jag owners are actually dying now, so unfortunately they kind of keep buying Jags.
Yeah. That they need to rebrand.
I've read here it says that they're trying to give their brand more of a younger, younger appeal, appeal to younger drivers. But Jags have always been kind
of like like the boss's car that that he brings around and stuff like that. It's it's like the the older
gentleman's vehicle and it's. Distinguished Gentleman.
Distinguished. Yeah, that's a good work.
That's a good work. It's.
Priced out of the younger people.
It's like for after saying that, yeah, absolutely rebranding.
We're just aiming for like the younger folk.
Like like what 18 year old is going to be dropping Ferrari?
Like it's unless you're unless your dad's from the UAE, it's just not going to happen. Yeah.
Jaguar's still owned by Tata, aren't they?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK, Well, that's interesting.
Maybe they see that as a growth market.
I don't know, like the the subcontinent has probably that that that old British sort of position of reputation Jaguar had isn't doesn't float as well over there now.
Maybe that's part of the reason they're doing it.
All I can picture is Jaguar hatchbacks.
One of my friends said that. Everywhere.
Zipping around. One of my friends said that
concept car you mentioned Scotty.
The back looks like an air conditioning duct.
It does, yeah. Yeah.
Like you're not wrong. It's I'm.
Feeling this whole this, this whole exercise feels like it's just trying to get some sort of slice in the like market of like Chinese cars of flooding the market.
I think they're just trying to be like, you know, India as a country is very sort of hushy towards Chinese things.
So I think they're just trying to be like, let's spin Jaguar into and our BYD or our whatever else they make in China now, like 707 hundred different, you know, brands or whatever kind of feels like that. I mean, I don't know about the
branding it's. Certainly strange.
I saw 2. That's such a car.
I saw two car transporters today carrying cars.
I have no idea what they were now.
I like to think I'm fairly connected and can identify a brand or two. It's worrying, isn't it?
Not a not an idea what they were still done.
It was on the morning show, the sunrise.
So giving away a car? Never heard of grandpa?
I don't even know what the hell it was.
Grand. I can't even remember what it
was. I'm like what the hell is this?
There's a deeper dealership just opened up in Box Hill.
Sorry, Doncaster between Honda and Subaru.
What deal here? E pal DD EE PAL.
That's wow. Coming in.
Great. Wow, what are that?
Someone interviewed Jeremy Clarkson recently and you know, I saw a little snippet of it and it was, oh, what, what do you think of modern cars, Jeremy? He says I think nothing, he
said. I don't even know what they are.
I can't tell them apart, he said.
I just have 0 interest in in them.
You know, it's like kind of the same, Jeremy, kind of the same.
Well, it's funny that they that they, you know, released this logo, right? And it says and that the catch
phrase was copy nothing and delete ordinary, but it showed none of the their new range that's coming, like none of the upcoming models. So like you think you show up
with you bring it in with some sort of like a car to kind of make make sense, right? Like you'd say, well, I, I get
the logo now because it kind of fits with the aesthetic of this of this, of this vehicle. But they're they're not doing
that. They've kind of, they've kind of
just said here it is and have you just got some people and, you know, it was like there's still, have you guys seen the ad campaign? It's the weirdest ad campaign of
yeah, I think it just makes no sense.
It looks like an art project. You know man.
Art project. It quite it, quite it quite
literally is. It's something you'd say at the
VCA, you know, like the, that's, that's what you would, you know, actually, you know, to be fair, the VCA would, would be, would be slightly more interesting. And say hello.
Keep you listening. Yeah, I don't know.
So, but anyway, it's, it'll be, it'll be interesting to see where they go. Like they said, it's for their
full, their full, you know, electric range that'll be from 2026 or or so onwards. But yeah, I don't know.
It's I've always pictured Jags with, with the cat, you know, like that's just, it's just how it is.
And, and I'm not saying I'm against change, but you know, if, if you, you're going to look back at your heritage too.
Yeah, like you've got to have some sort of pedigree.
And if your company, if your company's got pedigree, you kind of want to kind of want to, you know, incorporate some of that.
Like we're having that issue at my work at the moment with, well, we've got this really old logo of, of a bird, like a, like a, like an eagle. And, and everyone calls it the
chicken because it looks like it's, it's just what it's known as the, the chicken. So they've, they've been asking
me and other designers and stuff, or, you know, what can we do to reinvent? I'm like, well, what do you want
to do? They're like, we don't want the
chicken. We want the, we want to go on.
I'm like, oh, OK, so then when they when they took off the chicken, it like, and they showed some examples of to the to the staff of, you know, this, this is this could be a direction. They all like a person crossed
them all out or or no, sorry, wrote got a new piece of paper and put bring the chicken back and then got all the teachers were just signing that. So, so so no, So no one kind of
no one even looked at any of the other besides so and and that's at a school, right? So like when you got a heritage,
when you got when you got pedigree in a brand, you you, you know, I'm more for updating it and making it look modern.
But you know, especially with a brain that's so synonymous with that, that it's just like Ford getting rid of the Oval for the blue Oval. Like it's just yeah, it makes,
you know, it's it we getting rid of it's like, you know, that that that's weird or or you know.
Changing the way you do the F for Ford.
Yeah, it just, it just wouldn't make sense, right?
Like it just would not make sense.
Change it to Wingdings. Wingdings So I don't know.
It's it's, it's a weird, it's kind of a weird, weird thing.
But yeah, I'm, I don't know. I don't know what they're doing.
Yeah, it's, it's very, it's very weird.
It's a very weird kind of kind of a.
Well, none of us are buying 1 so it doesn't really matter.
I think as long as it comes with a feature where you can actually press a button and drops a bit of oil just to.
Make. It it's in their history, isn't
it? Yeah, absolutely.
That's in the DNA. Do you?
Think. Slow leak function a.
Bit of wood grain, bit of slow leak, some electrical items not working. Working Yep.
And then and then that's perfect that that's.
A lovely lever in the interior, Very nice.
Do you think, do you think we're going to see, I mean, we have seen a couple of things of like Tessa's being stopped with gasoline engines and stuff. Do you think we're going to
start seeing that on a larger scale at some point?
Not as much as like everyone sort of doing it, but more like, you know, instead of, instead of making your electric car faster, you just kind of go backwards, backwards in your quotation model. So.
That's a tough one because. Like retro mudding?
Yeah, like it's it's been done. Like I know I've seen people put
Alice's in in Teslas and stuff, which is which I find hilarious.
But I just think one of the two reasons I don't why I don't think that's going to work. One, these type of cars that
they're not they're not going to have like the same collectibility value as any as you know, anything really, really anything else. They're kind of more of a more
of an appliance. So people be like, why should I
do it? And two, the dangers of working
on an electric car like that. You, you know, it's, you need to
have, you need to be kind of specialised with it.
It's not just like your get your back VN cut the springs job, you know, at the back of your house. It's, it's, it's, it's a
complete, you know, it's, it's, it's really, you know, a scary kind of proposition. You know, you, you people have
died from, from, you know, from electric cars.
So yeah, it, I think that's, I think that's, that's my, that's my take. And I don't know if you guys
would agree, but what I like. Where some of this is going is
they're actually putting old bodies on a Tesla platform.
Oh. Cool, yeah.
Yeah, so that's pretty cool. You can see Mercedes, you hop in
it and it's got to test the screen and whatnot.
That's an old goal wing Mercedes, but.
They did that to a goal wing. Well, it I think it's a replica.
It's not. Yeah, it's like a kit car or
something. I hope so.
But I think that's a core thing. Yeah.
Well, I mean, because they're all kind of, as I say, skateboard platforms, right? Those cars, so like they, you
know, they're just a flat bottom.
Like, you can provide it. You can put like your body on
it. Absolutely.
Yeah. Like, I don't mind that.
Like, I think that's cool. But like reverting them back to
like, combustion and stuff. Yeah.
And this is for like, you know, shits and giggles.
I I just, I don't see it. I don't see it really taking
off. But I think you know how they've
got electric conversions for combustion motors.
They might have a new hybrid conversion for electric battery cars 1520 years time. Oh yeah.
So they. Are like a generator thing.
Yeah, who knows? Whatever the next generation of
motor engine that they're going to use to drive vehicles with, you know, it could be hydrogen, you know, invert.
Your Tesla to hydrogen. Yeah.
That would be funny it. Would be absolutely.
I like the idea of the Back to the Future that where he was, you know, putting the banana skins in all the.
Stuff. Yeah, See, that's handy.
That's good. Mr Fusion.
Mr Fusion. Mr Fusion, that's the one.
Yes, Yes. It's a fusion.
Or DeLorean on awaken. They are unbelievably cool.
It's just one of those cars. They be like, you know, they're
terrible, but they're just cool. It's like, yeah, it's a
DeLorean. It's kind of cool, but that's
awesome. Second topic of the evening,
gentlemen, is I've taken inspiration from some people who do radio, which which we also do, but in they they do it in regards to celebrities, which celebrities haven't we seen in a while or haven't you thought about or you know, this time we're going to do for cars. So what cars haven't you seen in
a while? And I've got I've got a list and
basically the person who's seen most of these is essentially the winner. And but, but the rules are as
follows. You have to mention where you've
seen it. It has to be within the last
three months. OK.
So you can say, oh, yeah, I saw one back in 1902.
It doesn't work that way. It's.
Yeah. And.
Seeing a picture of an actual like picture of you like seeing an actual one. An actual one in the wild.
Actual one. In the actual IRL, OK, in the
wild, which is, you know, again, kind of kind of hard.
But like some of this car, the cars I've got on my list, I think I think you probably would have seen.
And the reason I'm bringing them up now is because a few of them are Japanese and we might see them on Japan.
So I wanted to I wanted to check in.
So I want to keep score. This is not a timed thing.
No, no, no, it's, it's, it's just A to see who's seen, you've seen these cars the most out of like out of, you know, out of out of out of my, my, my bunch just before we get to the quiz.
OK. So first one, I saw one of these
the other day, and this is, this is the reason why I'm bringing this up is because I hadn't seen one in years.
And I, I couldn't remember the last one I'd actually seen one was in it was an 80s Mitsubishi cult like I hadn't, I hadn't seen one in so long. And this this young, young red
people that was driving it had a had a racing strap on it and it looked through a really good nick and I hadn't seen one in ages. I'm like, Oh my God, when was
the last time I seen one of these?
So that's the reason why I'm bringing it up and that's why I'm going to ask you that. That's my first one to start
with. So the 82 to 89 in Tbishi Colt,
when have you seen them in the last three months?
In the last three. You see them for sale, you know,
on marketplace, like quite clean little examples of three brands sort of thing. But I haven't seen one in the in
the flesh, in the wild. I saw Was it classic Japan at
highball? Probably AM months ago.
That's. Too long ago.
Oh no, I can remember the last one I saw was a four door sedan locally assembled. Yep, the early cars were fully
imported and then the later ones were locally.
Yeah. So you by top tip if you want to
colt get the early ones probably better.
Yes and no. The first early ones had the the
Super shift or select shift 8 speed.
Was it a power shift or a? Oh, power shift might be power
shift, yeah. Power shift which is not being
confused with the Ford Terrible transmission along the lum later. It's the forge was called the
power. Shit, Edward, you need to.
Get the power shit. Whereas the Mitsubishi was quite
a good dual range transmission. I believe it.
Was so Scotty, have you seen it? No, I haven't.
No, I can't remember the last time I seen one.
Even if I go further back, the three months, actually I.
Just kind of think that it's probably going to be hard for three months. Let's do six months.
Yeah, six months. Yeah, I've seen another five of
them. No.
So you guys are all out with that one.
We'll move. On Yeah.
The early 2000s Ford Cougar V6 that they didn't sell in many they didn't sell in big numbers here.
They were known as the Mercury Cougar overseas in in the United States of America, where they were made, I believe.
But yeah, I. Excessive to the probe, wasn't
it? That was a success to the probe,
correct? Yeah.
Yeah. I don't think I've seen one in
the last three months, no or six months.
There's a guy who drives one at my work, but it's not a sorry, it's a probe. It's like the first Gen probe.
Yeah, it's as close as I can remember seeing anything like that. Yeah.
No, no, no, no. David, you're out.
Now. Jeez.
And then you got to think these aren't that old, like, like they're, they're not like, I know they were hard to get bits for, but that's, yeah. They're like, not survivors
cars. Nah, they, they, they didn't
survive at all. Which which like, I know where a
couple of them are in, in, you know, various states of repair.
But like, they're yeah, they're they're not.
They didn't really last as as the next one, the Holden Calibra. Yes.
Oh, David Seaman. Anyone.
What? What did you when did you say 1,
David? OK.
There's one parked in Extension Beach South Boundary Rd.
You're heading down towards the Brabant and you go down E Boundary Rd and you go over South Road and that road winds its way through to Nepean Highway and there's one parked there and I've seen it a couple of times in the last three months. What?
Colour is it, David? It's.
Z which is it's pink colour. There.
Was an element of fade, but it's by far away.
Wasn't the worst one I've seen. OK.
Anyone else seen a Holden Calibra?
Not for many years. There used to be some little He
had a white one. Oh yeah, same line up at Kevin
Dennis down Ballarat Rd. They weren't selling too well
back in both. Over 90s?
Weren't they 9290? Yeah, correct.
Yeah, 9294 and then yeah, they went.
We've been getting the four wheel drive turbo I think too.
We did, yeah. We got the full drive we got.
We had we start off with the V6 I believe and then we got the full drive turbo later. But the orders only had the 4
cylinder, the camere engine. And then they then you could get
them, you could also get them with a with a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder twin Cam engine, which which was the Astra GTE engine, which was like quite a quick car.
Yeah, I think that came a bit later for us, but yeah, it wasn't wasn't a big seller that car as was the next one, the mid 90s nine 29 Mazda 929. Now, Chad, you had one of these.
Yeah, I had one. They called them the Japanese
Jaguar. They called.
Them the Jack, OH. Four wheel steer.
Wheel steer. What a bucket.
Nah. No, try and find a try and find
a photo of it. David.
Stein 1. David Stein One.
Day. Are you?
Kidding. What?
What? In Baldwin, there's a restaurant
in a group of shops between sort of the where the freeway caps across Doncaster Road and sort of Baldwin Rd.
There's a group of shops down and I turned into a side street to get a park to get a coffee and then went turned in the little court and there was one in the dry in the garage at the street house. And I looked twice because I
thought I haven't seen one of those for a long time.
I think David's gonna win this, but also David and Chad are out on the roads a lot. Some of us are like at home, in
the office or at work and I was a winner on seeing these cars.
Yeah. That's that's Fairpoint.
Fairpoint. But, you know, it's, it's, it's
all part of the game, you know, like that's.
Shaft last week shafted again this.
Oh, here we go. Just saw McLaren on Oxley Hwy
That's. Not one of the Nas, Rob, not one
of the card doesn't count that's.
My 1. Oh, that is a bucket.
Yeah, A. Sheet of.
A terrible photo, but yeah man, that sucked.
Yeah, they're hard to get bits for those things.
Very hard. Next one is a Peugeot 405 MI 16.
Oh. Oh.
David, strut up. David strut up again.
They have. Seen one recently but not not
that I could pinpoint. Today.
Another what? Who is 1?
Bellucci classic cars. Alfred Jim at In Dock has one at
his workshop. And what colour was this one?
There's also event. Another way, OK.
And one owner car is 300,000 KS on the very country Victoria car and the guy has had it from you and commuted.
Wow. And he sourced it for a client.
Can I just say there is no collusion on tonight's episode of of of Car Talk? I I haven't discussed this with
with them. At all.
Next one you're going to come up with and I posted a photo of the car spotters. I saw, I saw.
Yeah, that, David, that was rare, Yeah.
Yeah. And what a great rego plate too.
What? What Car was that, David?
Well, we're going to see if it's on your list.
If it's on the list. Next one is a Daihatsu Terios
David straight up again. No, David, if you say today I'm
gonna I'm gonna turn the the podcast off.
That's that's. OK, it's been a good night.
See you. See you.
Where? Where did you see a terrier
today? In behind the Doncaster Land
Rover, a panel shop in in the street park behind there and I thought, what Cheerios? The blue Terios?
Haven't seen one of those for a while.
Crazy. What kind of one was it?
Look. At that, the blue.
Blue. OK wow, it would have been the
most reliable car on the street. That would it would have.
Been now I saw. One day.
Oh, Chad. Chad's up.
Chad's up, yeah. I saw one in the last six
months. Yep, But it was other wreckers
that still counts. Yeah, it.
Still counts. I'll pay that.
I'll pay that. It still counts.
Was it I saw one of Kilsyth wreckers?
Kilsyth Pickapod. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it was a silver one and it
had, it still had all of its, you know, body kit and spoiler and other fenders. I had it was like fully kitted
out and I think it must have just got there because it wasn't even like picked apart yet. That was cool.
I like that it's a good one. It was a whole industry in
turning them into use. I don't know if you've ever seen
one. Oh wow some guy in Victoria
somewhere cutting the back off them and and making them into a like a tray back thing for farmers and stuff.
No, they were a lot of, they were a lot of chassis, weren't they? They were, and they were right.
And. Yeah, they were.
Yeah. And but they were all, you know,
mostly air conditioned and stuff.
So we had an air conditioned, it was a 2 seater Ute thing and they just sort of chopped the back section off and made a flatbed thing. I've never seen one.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's they called them something funny.
I can't remember what they called them but if you Google Terrios Terri Ute Terri Ute the Terri on the Hyundais.
Next one do you know Suzuki Ignis Sport?
Oh. An Ignis.
Sport so the seats from one for sale on marketplace if you want OK. Was that, is that half a point?
No, no. It's that it's.
They had Riccaros. Didn't they had Riccaros?
Correct. Yeah, yeah, with the little
meshy fishnet, the. Fishnet in the Yeah.
Yeah, they were the fortune now too.
Those Riccaros. Yeah.
I had. 1. But not really.
Chad, Chad, you've seen one. I've seen one, but it was at a
track day, so again, I don't know if that counts.
It counts bad. All right.
There's a red one that's driven by a girl called Tony.
It's super clean. It's it's got RPF ones on it.
The Recaro seats 1/2 cage, super cool car.
Like white wheels on a red car. Yeah, it's beautiful.
Has that got stickers in the back window like a lot of stickers in the back window? Yeah, yeah, you probably might
have seen it around. Yeah, I've seen it around.
I know, I know the car. Yeah.
Next one is a TS Astra, which is like the early 2000 Astra Sri turbo. So the turbos just just all blew
up and they they they they got thrashed and they, they didn't really exist. So have you seen one of those in
particular they. Only in the 2 door. 2 door.
Yep, 2 door. You could give them a blue,
silver and a black and it was really pretty blue too.
It was a really nice colour. Convertible or hardtop?
Yeah. I will accept either if you see
convertible or hard or hard top, I'll accept either.
There is there is a blue 1. I don't know if it's a turbo.
All the Sris weren't all turbo. With no because you get an Sri
2.2 or but the the the the blue the light blue colour came in
the turbo only. But if it was a dark blue it was
probably the Sri non turbo it was.
Probably a turbo because it's that sort of, you know, mid mid metallic blue. Yep Yep.
That one lives of half K from where I live.
Oh, there you go. And I've noticed it on on my
block because it's pretty clean and rare to see one because they, you know, haven't seen the two doors.
I think they sold that Astra as a city like they called it the there was a city trim level which was like that was the cheapest 1 you could get, I think.
And then the only other two door one they sold was the the Sris.
Yeah. Nobody else.
Scott is just like, I don't see any of these cars and.
I'm not going to find any of these over Craigie Boone.
Henry's over that way. What about an N14 Pulsar Triple
S? Oh, an N 14.
Yeah. That's all of that.
Yeah, the great car. I really would be a fan of
those. In triple S in mile.
Yeah. Yeah, no, not an N 14.
I've seen a few N fifteens around recently, but I've seen it in 14 N. 15 yes, but not the 14.
Jeez, like I'm just looking at this list that I put together.
These aren't that old. Like they're not that old and
they're they're, they just don't exist anymore. 30 years.
Yeah, they did. It's 30 years now.
Like a like a, an early on. What about an Essex Corolla from
the 90s? Oh my.
What's an Essex? What year is that?
It's a it's like a 9190 Yeah 4 AG powered a small port Corolla.
The Hot 1. The hot one, yeah, 100 kilowasps
they had. Which is pretty good.
You have the lift back one or a hatchback 1 Sorry.
Hatch Oh, you could. You could get them in a lift
back as well actually. It was a Sika and a hatch
wasn't. It yeah, you could get them at.
Yeah, not at. Sedan.
I think that. Not you can get them in the
Hatch and the lift back. Yeah, Sika.
I had one of those. Yeah, you did.
How was it a good car, Rob? It was OK all.
Right. I'll leave it at that.
I had one as well in a base carbie manual.
Yeah, that was good. It was one of the first cars I
didn't care about. Like, you know what, they all
faded and mine was faded and but it was just so reliable and comfy and I just did everything with it and I didn't care.
And it was just lovely not to care.
It's, it's a nice feeling that it's a nice feeling.
Yeah, well, when you care, you, oh, can't park here, come back there, don't scratch it. You know, there's something nice
about just turnkey and just go. Yeah.
Next. My last one for the evening.
Come on, give me one. Give me one.
Oh. You, I mean, I thought you would
have been good at this, Edward I.
May have been good to know about where you drive.
I shall, I shall. I've got two more.
The second last one is the Ford Spectrum van.
My friend's mum had one of those in Sunset wine.
Oh DHT 718 base model Sunset wine automatic with the grey cloth. And the the seats are turned
around. Yeah, I think the middle seats
would turn around. Yeah, but I have not seen that
in the last six months. Is that it's a rebadged Mazda.
Asda E series Vans Yeah, yeah. OK.
And the last one is an 80s Bluebird.
Oh yes. Oh yes, I see.
One and you said? And Rob, Rob, Rob's pretty set
up. Rob, we'll start with you.
Rob, when did you see one? Cars and coffee.
Oh yeah, true, there was one there.
Yeah, I don't even remember what I walked.
Past the cousin, there's. So much there, I don't retain
it. Chad, I saw one on the way to
Colder last weekend. Not the one, just part, sorry.
The one before that. Yeah.
And it was shit. What was it?
It was on like Killer Park Drive or something and I was going towards colour and they were kind of turning onto the freeway. Yeah, somewhere there.
Yeah. It was like a burnt orange
colour. Yeah, another.
Colour. Yeah, nice.
And David Prince, you said you saw one as well.
Well, I saw the same one as Rob. You were talking about highball.
Was it the red 1? It's a white one.
It's own. It's an interesting car because
it was owned. It is owned by John Akritidis.
Oh. That one which was a Japanese
import one or? So it was originally owned by
Ford, I think either Ford or Holden.
One of his relations ordered from Ford or Holden.
It was actually, it's a, it's a yeah, Japanese built version.
And they bought it out when they knew Nissan were going to be assembling the Bluebird in Australia.
They bought it out to to pull it apart and check it out.
So it's got quite a few differences, detailed differences to the local car. But I've done a couple of jobs
for him on it. It's a it's a really cool old
survivor car. And he was, he added in Richmond
the other day. I saw it in Richmond.
And you saw it. I saw it, well, I saw it at
highball as well, but I saw it on the road the other day too.
Well, that counts for more. If you saw it on the world, you
know David gets a slightly higher ranking there.
I've worked on it too. Does that count for anything?
Easy. Higher he.
Gets a .5. Was that in the last six months
though? I haven't worked on it in the
last six months now. He actually, I'm surprised, he's
actually kept that car quite a while.
He's had it quite a few years now.
But did you say it was a relative of his that had it?
Well, some of your friend's dad or something had OK.
There was an affiliation old. Or hot, I can't remember if it
was Ford or Holden with the original owners of the car in Australia. They bought it out of Japan to
pull apart to see what will make a tick.
You know, like what their competition was going to be on on with that. Imagine seeing that in the front
of the owner's manual. Owner's name Holden Proprietary.
Ford Motor Company of Australia you.
Thinking what? What's going on here?
What about AV? I'm.
About AVN Commodore. I saw 1-2 days ago.
There's one on my street. Yeah, Scott, you mentioned
Craigieburn before. I, I had an excursion to
Craigieburn this week. Oh.
That's so lucky of you. Well.
You're there. Well, funny story, I won't keep
my boy with it, but I did a job last late last week on a discovery floor for a private customer.
And I can classically in, in nearly 40 years, I can count on one hand the number of jobs that I've done that I've stuffed up and couldn't sort out, you know, with a bit more time.
So I managed to do the repair that was required and then carefully masked up the rest of the door because it was, it was quite windy and the car was outside and I was worried about overspray and what sort of thing.
And then proceeded to pull the tape off and pulled off the finish on the insert panel of the door trim.
So I they're so. Well made, David.
The sad thing was this was never going to win a concourse, this car and I sort of half thought, why are we even, Why does the person even want this done anyway?
I, I, I realised straight away that I wasn't going to be able to sort that out easily. I'd already spent too much time
on the job and I just thought I said look, I'm sorry I've done this. I won't charge you now until
it's sorted out, but I'll sort it out for you.
I said let me go away and come up with some options.
So of course I price 1A new door.
Well, when did you allow to see if I could get the insert?
Of course you can't get the insert.
It comes with the door trim. XUKI didn't even ask the price.
I said no, we won't be doing that.
So I went to a well known Rover Wrecker.
Hard, hard to find that one of those.
Yeah, it's because it was. Of course it wasn't a black door
trim. It was a rabbit cat over almond,
so it was the own beige and brown.
I they said oh that's going to be hard we'll see what we can do we'll get back to you. So they got back to me so they
could get me one from Adelaide. 795 dollars Oh trim that's it
not. Happening.
I was charging her 175 for the job, so I said I'm all you know, I don't think I'll be doing that.
So I went to good old Facebook Marketplace and a wrecker in Craigieburn had one and had a photo of the dual trimmer wanted. So I thought it's probably
mounted, you know, like the car was pretty trashed and it's probably no better than the one I've got.
He sent me a photo of it. I messaged him, sent me a photo
straight away. 100 bucks. I'll drive, drive that to
Craigieburn for that. Yeah, lovely guy.
The very easy transaction out in the boondocks of somewhere off that road to Sydney and there were lots of wreckers and lots of, you know, smoking businesses going on and found it.
Yeah, very simple trans transaction, thankfully.
So the door trips fitted to the car, all good.
Happy days, happy days. It's time for the quiz
gentlemen. Score the final score of the
cars you haven't seen in a while in the last six months.
Scotty Ed get the score and David on a grand total of 6, Chad on three and Rob on one. So you know, it's impressive.
Very impressive, David, and a lot of them today.
Yeah, yeah. Mate.
You think? So these aren't, these aren't
that rare, Matt. You need to come up with a
harder list. Oh mate, if if I come up with a
harder list, I'll I'll have the I'll have our listeners switching off. It's not with the cock, which
you know. Let's go.
You know you guys, you know the rules, 10 questions plus some bonus questions. I've tried to put something in
for everybody today. And by everybody I mean Rob, but
you'll you'll see why there's. Going to be questions like what
did Rob have for lunch? Yeah.
The Leyland P70 blank. Question one, the Chevrolet
Corvette has always had two flags in its logo.
It's always had the chequered flag as one of the flags and a Chevrolet badge or a flue de la C and three lines flag.
What was the original flag supposed to be on next to the chequered flag but but was not allowed to be put on?
Ed Ed. Was it the American flag?
It was the American flag. Well done, Edward.
Sure, So bonus question, why did they not put the American flag on the car? I was not or Ed.
Ed. Because not all of it was made
in America. Incorrect.
That's a good guess. I like that one, David.
Yes, yeah. Because that was reserved for
the prime president's car. Incorrect.
Not a good guess, but incorrect. Chad.
Chad, was it? Some sort of copyright?
Issue. Not quite, but you're the
closest one so far. I might give you a .5 if no one
else can get it. So.
So is Scotty and Rob to play. No, I was on the long the lines
of some copyright thing or something.
So no, Rob, I'm out. How are you?
So the reason why they didn't put the American flag on is because Chevy's legal team pointed out that the flag isn't allowed to be used on products for sale.
So it's an American issue. You, you can't put things to
promote or to, you know, to, for, for personal gain to sell.
Question 2. According to Leyland.
Here we go Rob, this one's for you.
The P76V8 engine weighed the same as what?
David, David, the six cylinder. Engine The six cylinder engine.
Oh wow, because it was all alloy.
Alloy correct window. Rob that that was your chance.
You should just bust in. Buzz in.
Sorry. Hey.
You knew it, Rob. You knew that answer.
Absolutely single SU on it overhead Cam.
You can remember the ad too because they had had the two engines on engine cranes and that and then they were both at the same same weight, same weight.
Same weight or why not to buy the V8?
And believe it or not, if you split the motor from the Bauhaus and you can throw the V8 straight in and bolt everything bolts in. Really.
Pretty much. Yeah.
You go. Scott should have done one of
them. Weight distribution too.
That is true, that is true. Question #3 the original Suzuki
Swift GTI from the 80s that so you know the squarish one came out with a whopping 1.3 litre twin Cam fuel injected engine
pumping a massive 74.3 kilowatts of power.
They wanted to let you know about the .3 what was its quoted
zero to 100 time back in the 80s.
Ed. Ed. 8.6. 8.6 is absolutely spot
on Edward, well done. What that is?
How was that even possible? I was I was prepared to give
closest to, but that's ridiculous.
Edward wanting. That is I I mean, it is a guess,
but maybe it was in there somewhere it.
Wasn't Edward? Maybe it was in there somewhere
because I did have one of those in the four door hatch, the original Swift, not the GTI, and I had the very, very comprehensive brochure for it. It's like a full 1520 page
colour, glossy whatever and it maybe it had the times and maybe somewhere I've read that. All I'm going to show is I saw
this and it, it was pretty bloody awesome.
It was an advertisement for the, for the, for the Swift GTI and it had the quota time and everything on there, which I which you don't, you don't see these days, which is, which is, which is very, very cool. I thought the, the ad was the
only way to fly and how cool's that?
And it's got like all the quoted times and everything on the scene. It was really cool.
You know, it's a very cool advert.
I like. It's like a page out of Fast
Tours or something. Cry.
Literally, yeah, yeah. Question #4 the Swedish word for
speed is what? David.
David. Is it vegan?
No. Good guess.
Good. Guess.
Great guess. Yeah, like that one.
Sorry, vegan the. Other day.
Oh, I should have put that one on the list.
Six months. Sorry, last weekend.
Speed. Speed.
No. Just a guess, not Viplin.
No, that is not correct. Incorrect, I should say.
Ed Ed Arrow. No incorrect Scotty and.
Think of all the hot Saab models.
Scotty and David still yet to play.
No, I said vegan. Oh, you said vegan?
Yeah. I can't even.
I don't know. I wouldn't even mean I have a
guess. Chad Chad just used on a sign.
No, I have no idea. I can't think of anything about.
You guys both out a. Bloody owned one.
What is? What is it?
It's fart. Fart.
As in, as in farting like you, you fart.
FART. FART.
Yeah, that's how it's spelled. Yeah.
So in, in the movie, like the movie Speed in the Swedish, it says fart because that's that's what quite literally translates.
So there you go. Farta, Farta.
Question #5 Rico Rennie is a famous Australian Indigenous artist who once got a grant for $90,000.
He got this grant to do an artwork.
Because he was getting quite famous, he chose to buy a car with it. What Car did he buy to create an
artwork with Ed? Ed.
If you give me the brand, I'll give it to you.
Ford Falcon. No, that's.
Very popular. The Australian.
Rick Rennie is an Australian Indigenous artist, correct?
Well, it's got to probably be an Indigenous car, like a, well, Indigenous car might be an Australian car.
I'll give you a hint, it's not an Australian car, David.
David what? So hang on, but why would you
buy a non Australian car to do an indigenous artwork on?
That doesn't make any sense. I'll tell you the story once we
get the answer. Was it a Rolls Royce?
It was a Rolls Royce. It was a roll.
It was a Rolls Royce Corniche he bought.
Wow, Bonus question. So I give the point to David.
What did he do to it? Scott.
Scott. Like smashed it up.
Incorrect. He still drives it.
He still drives it all the time. Chad Chad, Did he do like
indigenous dot painting? Incorrect.
Ed Ed. Did he Jack it up?
And make it like full drive. Incorrect.
So he still got Robin David to play.
I was. Going to say he put graffiti all
over it. Yep.
I'll pay that, Rob. He put graffiti all over it.
Yeah. So there's.
It's actually currently at the NGV at the moment.
This is what it looks like. It's a gold Rolls Royce
Corniche. And he got a grant of 90 grand
and he put the Rolls Royce Corniche.
Oh. My God.
Who are you? Wow.
And still fully registered. And yeah.
So basically he didn't, he did an art installate, like art piece with it. And, and he and he, he did a
full cinema, cinema style video with it.
Like you just see like a drawing shot of him doing doughnuts in the Bush with it. And, and it's pretty much like,
it's kind of like the biggest if you to the to the, to the crown, put it that way. Because that's the yeah.
That's why he chose the Rolls Royce.
Question number six, the score check, by the way, Edward Bunting, David Prince on 2 Robin one Chaton's got to get the score. Question number six.
Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. I, I, sorry Chad, I, I
apologise. I sincerely apologise, Chad.
This week across the Melbourne automotive socials, a car with the plate ZZZ 999 standard issue, which is the last last plate to be to be made, was spotted and taken photo of.
What Car was it on? David, David, Save it.
It was a Nissan. It was a Nissan.
Bad. I think it was a skyline.
It was an R31 skyline. Yeah, correct.
I've not seen that, Carl. Skyline, that was.
In North Melbourne before you've actually.
Seen it 5th. No, didn't last six years.
So it was. 6. All right, Yeah, yeah.
Weird. I always thought, man, that is a
strange. What are the coincidences?
And it's on gas, I believe. It is on gas too.
LPG. You know what I'll give you?
I'll give you a .5 chance for that because because for the.
Gas, come on. For the gas though.
Isn't nearly up in my school shit.
Question #7. So funny.
As we all know and Mr Matthew General loves a Ford Laser SR2HE owns one. This was not the final time Ford
Australia put the SR2 badge on a car in Australia.
What other car did they put that SR2 badge on?
David. David.
It was a Falcon SR22, wasn't there.
It was a Falcon Sr. But it wasn't a Series 2.
No, Ed. It was a Ford of Focus.
No, it wasn't Chad. Chad.
Ford Capri. Incorrect.
That's a good guess though, but it's incorrect.
It was an XR2. There was an XR.
Point. No, half a point.
There's only other. One R and two stinky.
Agreed in mate. Rob and I think Scotty still got
the chance here. No, the Steva.
The Steva's incorrect Scotty. Is it a small car?
I'll tell you what, it's an Australian.
It's an Australian made car. I'll give you I'll give you a
hint because I want to get you on the board.
Giant made car. I think I know now.
So copy obviously you already said the Falcon.
Yeah, it's on a Falcon. No, Capri, Not a laser.
Not another laser. Territory.
There was a territory, they had an SR2 territory.
That's correct. Question 8.
What iconic Japanese sports car has officially been announced as making a return? David just got in.
Toyota Celica. The the the Toyota Celica is
correct. David Prince this week is
Celica. Maybe there'll be one of those.
I think Japan on. It's coming back.
When's the? Tartan to be coming back,
possibly next year, but we. Like the preview?
Doesn't, Yeah. Drop yourself in hairdressers,
you're in for a new lease on life.
Bonus question, which celebrity did a big ad campaign for them in the 90s? Ed.
Ed. Tina Turner.
Incorrect. Well, it's fine.
I mean, she could have, but that's not what I was picking.
Actually, she did do some car stuff.
I just I thought it might have been Toyota.
But in Australia or or? It was, it was.
It's like, I think it's more Japanese, but it was super famous. It got all over it got all over
the world. And what?
Which silica? Was it for?
It was for the last of the pop up ones from memory, which is like AA185 I think that this series is.
He's an American, American actor and comedian.
I'll put it that way. Sorry, Scotty.
Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy's absolutely
correct. Yes, remember.
He did, he did wanted silica. And then he did the whole, the
whole laugh kind of thing that he does.
Question #9. It was your Tina Turner with
something American. Yeah, there's Tina Turner.
There's your Tina. You did a few car rents looked.
A little bit like we didn't have to have a look at that question #9 The E46 BM WM3 came in a GTR spec at one point.
It had how many cylinders Scott got in there. 8.
It did have 8 cylinders. Well, I'm Scottie question, a
bonus question. How many were made?
One. And how many actually got sold
to the public? 2.
So there's two, there's two, there's two, there's two points up for stake here, Chad. Chad.
I don't know how many were sold but I'm going to get 400 if how many were made. Incorrect.
I'll give closest 2 for for that.
So Chad says 400 for made so 400.
Yep. And give us a number for how
many were sold to the public. 150. 150 Cool Ed Ed was next.
They made 20. They sold 17 to the public. 17
to the public. So I was going to say 37.
Yep, made. And Yep, made Yep and only 12 to
the public. 12 to the public. OK.
So David and Rob, you still got a chance here?
This is closest too, isn't? It this is closest too.
Yeah, that's close too, for two points.
There's two points here at stake.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, all go 120.
Yeah, 120 made. And 45 sold in public.
And Mr Rob sold. Go 70 made and 59 sold to the
public. Sold to the public, David, did
you have a different number at the end there?
So you said 45 to the public? Yeah, Yep.
So the actual answer is they made 10 and they sold three to the public. So closest 2 for the first point
goes to Edward at 20. S.
But for the second point, it goes to Scotty because they made, they sold three to the public.
There was basically made as a home allegation race car.
They had to make a few to sell to the public and they race them. The thing is a beast that looks
they. Made ten of them and and so
seven of them were basically race cars.
Pretty much, yeah. It's not a lot of race cars for
a series or anything, is it so? That's, that's right.
According to BMW, yeah. So but they made 2, so 3434
actually, they sold and they were £250,000 back in like back in the early 2000s, which is a lot of money still a lot of money today. Question #10 Which Kia product
this week has become in partnership with the TV show Squid Game, which which Kia model Ed Ed.
The new one that you drove, David, what's that thing you drove the other week? The electric something
something. No help, no help, no help.
No, but you know that. You know that one.
It's like an SUV thing. Kia Sportage.
Chad, I'll. Take it That is correct, That is
correct. That is the Sportage.
You got, I got it, Chad. All done mate, all done.
Keeping your eye for point that you stay away from a mine.
Well, OK mate. All right, well, that brings us
to the end of the quiz. Now, Chad and Rob on a point
each. We've got a three way tie for I
think the first time ever. Scotty, Edward and David on 4
apiece. I.
Can't believe I caught her. You you were coming last for
like until question 6 and he just went nuts.
All right, so shared. The podium.
If you guys can either share the product or you can do a tiebreaker. Question, right?
I don't think much time to share with David.
So what's it going to be? We tie breaking or are we going
to? They're not tie breaking.
If you got a question ready to go then yes, but if not then I'm happy with the tie. You come up with a question,
Janina. I will come up with a question
I've asked that we discussed earlier in the in the evening.
Who can get in first with that? The question is what was the
catch phrase from new from the new Jaguar logo?
The new one just launched. We just mentioned it earlier in
the show. I read that.
To you we did. We.
Did. Oh gosh.
David, it was. 2 words it was. I got nothing come.
On it was like recreate, imagine and recreate or something.
No, didn't create. No, I don't know.
Incorrect. It was something something copy,
not copy. Don't copy something, copy.
Get out of things. No one's really interested, OK?
I'll come back to you, Scotty. Edward, do you want to jump in?
I really don't know, but I think Scott's on the right track.
Scott is on the right. Scott's the closest out of you
all. I'll give it to Scott.
Go down, Scotty. It's copy nothing, delete
ordinary. The nothing delete ordinary.
Remembers comedy. What are they?
Very forgettable. Very forgettable.
Well done, Scott. You, Scott.
Thank you, as we do when Scotty. When Scotty wins, obviously we
give him a round of applause, but is there anyone you would like to thank Scotty? Myself, but what I would add is
a little bit of a thank you to Maddie there with with the help to get me started with the Ford Territory, but there.
You go, I got. Me rolling that was that kind of
got me rolling. And it was like shenanigans.
Car. No, I'm being lenient on Scott
because he's his car's still not ready for classic Japan on, you know, I'm being a bit more mellow.
Thank you, Ed. Appreciate.
It with alum or bloody there'd be no mood that.

Let's do, let's do some plugs. Scotty's golf tip of the week.
Golf tip of the week come back to me, I'll see if I've got 1.
We'll come back. How many sets of clubs can you
get in the boot of an R31? That is a good.
That is a good question. In the back of the blade.
Like sets of clubs? So like a full bag of clubs, no?
Not the buggy, just the full bag with the you know.
I reckon you get 4 in this R 31. They're a big boot.
Big all right because all the seats fall down too I get more in there than I reckon than the blade Oh yeah put.
It this way, you probably get more than me.
That's my cricket bag. And it was always bigger than my
bloody Fiesta. So that was on Saturday.
But anyway, we'll come back to you.
Edward Bunting, David Prince, You guys do a podcast order?
Retro where we talk to guests about the cars of their lives.
You can cycle through the 8 episodes that are currently out in market and hang on patiently for the others that are coming.
You can watch that on YouTube or you can listen on Spotify.

everything, everything you can think of, he's doing it.
So he'll not be our boy Rob there.
Isn't that right, Rob? That's right, anytime.
Chad, anything you want to plug this evening?
No. Just looking forward to Classic
Japan. So shout out to Classic Japan
for putting on amazing event. Yeah, the Toyota Car Club, they
do, they do. They probably do some of the
most the more premier event like Japanese car events in in Australia, I reckon. Like they're they're they're
pretty good. Yeah.
Sakura Picnic, Southern Hemisphere.
Yeah, I would agree with that. Yeah.
Sakura Picnic goes off every year, you know, the classic Japan goes off every year. They're super well organised,
you know, good bunch of people too for them, for the ones I've met. So they've also got a motor car
this this Saturday at at Altona, but I don't know if that'll go ahead. The weather's not looking
promising, but it would be a lot of people spinning out, which would be fun. So, yeah.
