Garage Heroes In Training
Garage Heroes In Training
Updated 12 days agoAn amateur endurance auto racing team hoping to show everyone that they too can participate in performance driving or racing. We are a relatively new team and learning right along with you. Our assumption is that you know very little to nothing about the sport but are interested in learning to drive better and eventually maybe even race in a local event of interest. We will cover all forms of racing and hope to be entertaining as well as educational.

DwD 0243: The If - Then Game Courtesy of Ross Bentley - On Braking
In this Dominating with Dawson episode, we use a recent article by podcast friend Ross Bentley for this first installment of the If-Then Game. On this weeks episode, we focus on braking in track. Join us and play along with our two contestants from the Garage Heroes In Training Team. We are sure this will go into global syndication soon, lol. Special thanks to Ross Bentley for letting us use his article as a basis for this episode. GHIT 0242: EveryDay Driver's Todd Deeken and Paul Schmucker
Everyday Driver started as one of the early YouTube channels in 2007 and again they started an early podcast in 2014 that Bill first discovered in late August. The fundamental premise for Everyday Driver is that cars can and should be fun and they work tirelessly to help by testing virtually all types of new cars and many used cars. In addition, a majority of their podcast segments are aimed at helping their listeners to find the car that matches their needs and maximizes the fun of driving everyday. Paul and Todd were eventually able to grow this into a full time business for each of them and have a television show that is on its 9th season on the Motor Trend channel as well as having produced several of the finest automotive feature films, including the history of the 911, each of the BMW 3 series M cars, and every generation of the Corvette among others. At one point, we were even going to race Road Atlanta with Todd, Paul, and Chance but things fell through due to scheduling issues so that rain check was issued and we hope to cash it in post Covid. Paul and Todd are usually asking the questions or answering car related questions, so we tried to learn a bit more about them and their background during this episode. Everyday Driver provided the final push to our team starting racing. So you can blame then in part for our podcast, lol. You can subscribe to our podcast on the podcast provider of your choice, including the Apple podcast app, Google music, Amazon, and YouTube etc. Also, if you could give our podcast a (5-star?) rating or even better, a podcast review, we would greatly appreciate it and it would help us to grow the passion and sport of high performance driving. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) We start of talking about our postponed endurance race and the potential for Todd and Paul to join us in a coming endurance race. 2) Paul and Todd were kind enough to go into their respective pasts and go through their individual processes that has allowed them to transfer from a part time YouTube channel to a full time operation that has a show on Motor Trend, several feature films, two YouTube channels, and a twice weekly podcast that is closing in on 650 episodes with well over 1,000 hours of the podcast content. And in their spare time, lol. 3) If you have ever wanted to drive the Nurburgring and/or Spa, Paul and Todd also run an annual tour of both that allows you to arrive and drive both tracks as well as the transit between. 4) Paul and Todd share the passion for cars and driving, but each are different in their preferences and driving style to compliment each other. They often end up discussing the different cars and end with different preferences. It is as close to watching a modern version of the "Siskel and Ebert" show that is aimed at cars and driving (with a bit less disagreement lol). Bill seems to usually be a "Todd" and Vicki seems to usually fall into the camp of "Paul". 5) We also go into how they transitioned from a part time, side operation to the more than full time operation that they now have. The highs and lows, as well as what was a bit harder than they expected. 6) Bill takes the opportunity to ask his Ladder question to Todd and Paul. It is roughly stated as what is the lowest car that is currently available would you like that is better "to you" than everything else that is less expensive. And then moving up the ladder, what car would be the next rung up the ladder until we get to cars in excess of $100,000 or so. 7) We inadvertently almost broke news on this podcast of a future series that they have yet to announce. Tune in to the Everyday Driver YouTube channel in the next few weeks for the reveal. GHIT 0241: Our Garage Weekend with Alex Levinson
Alex Levinson has a ton or racing and wrenching experience, especially with Miatas of all vintages. So when he "volunteered" to come over for a work weekend, we quickly lined up everything we could think of to finish up several projects on each of the team's 3 Miatas. However, our best laid plans did not come together as we had hoped. New car lift? Worked great and a game changer! Bribe/food prep was as always on point. Listen and learn about what can happen on a work weekend, especially early on in your wrenching career. DwD 0240: Driving Plateaus and How to Break Through Them
In this Dominating with Dawson episode, Ben goes over his personal plateau story and what it means to be stuck at a driving plateau. To this point, our team has not been at a plateau and has been slowly or quickly improving to this point. One of the key areas to look at for breaking plateaus is to do something new or differently and learn from it. This is where going to an HPDE, doing drills, trying new lines, and utilizing coaching can help you to see an opportunity to improve. If you do the same thing every time, you will eventually reach a plateau at some level, almost by definition. GHIT 0239: Jaime Garcia from the Race FF Pod
Jaime Garcia started the Race FF Podcast to share with everyone his racing and building progress and to help everyone get started in racing by showing them that it can be done. Since we have essentially the same goals, it was natural to have him on the podcast. As his podcast title indicates, Jaime races a Front engine Front wheel drive in both HPDE, time trials, and wheel to wheel. His current target is competing in Honda Challenge in southern California. Further parallels between the podcasts is that his fiance has recently begun sharing the car and working towards her racing goals. This episode was recorded live from the road on his recent trip back from having his car caged in Washington. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) We confirm that both podcasts will be racing very similar 1993 Honda Civic's next year but Bill doesn't know as much as he should about ours. Glad Jaime was here to help us know our own car, lol. 2) A surprise guest bird flew into his window during the episode, actually our second guest bird. It must be something to do with Honda Challenge racing that we aren't familiar with. We will need to talk to podcast guest and friend EJ2 Track Rat or more details. 3) Jaime discusses one of the often overlooked benefits of instructing drivers in that it helps the instructor as a driver as well, often in very different ways than when they are driving. 4) Jaime also discusses his transition from HPDE student, to time trial racer and instructor, to wheel to wheel racer into his upcoming Honda Challenge debut. 5) We also discuss several ways to minimize the expenses related in getting started, even if you have no car and almost zero money. 6) Jaime helps Jennifer with potential options for her HPDE and learning to wrench and daily driver car hunting. Any guesses? Who knows, maybe Jennifer will actually listen to this episode. Lol.
GHIT 0238: Our Upcoming Ladies HPDE Event with the Shifting Points podcast - A True Good, Bad, and the Ugly
It all started with a great idea, let's go to an HPDE event with the hosts of the Shifting Points podcast. Audra had raced with us at the Thompson race in August and Jess & Kathy had visited for moral support and wanted to try track driving. There was a ladies event with MassTuning set for mid September. Sounds like a blast. Until it wasn't. In what was supposed to be a two episode celebration of this event, we go into the prep and excitement of going into a track event and how things ended up. We hope Jess and Kathy can look beyond this event and potentially come with us to another event, maybe even this season. Strap in, this one gets a bit wild towards the end. DwD 0237: Oppo Luck AKA Counter Steer
On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we play our jeopardy jargon game with Ben and go into the topic of (Bill lost his place) oppo lock or counter steer and how it can be used on track. GHIT 0236: Tim Fokine - Pilot/Racer, Instructor and Racing Instructor
Tim Fokine is a commercial pilot and also involved with the training of pilots, as such it was no surprise that he is involved with the training of drivers and instructors within NASA Great Lakes and a few other groups. Bill first met Tim in HPDE 2 at Mid Ohio and Tim was further motivated to progress quickly, lol. This past week however, like a bad penny, Bill was back and Tim was his mentor in his prep weekend sessions for next month's MSF Level 2 instructor certification weekend. During our discussion with Tim, we go over how being a pilot and a racing driver can be sometimes complementary and at the same time directly opposite in some ways. We also go into the NASA endurance racing series (TREC) as well as the transition from being an HPDE student to becoming a driving instructor. We barely scratched the surface with Tim and hope to have him on again soon. We did have a bit of microphone echo at some points that we could not edit out. Our apologies. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) How Tim is introducing his entire family to our sport and how we are going to help coerce his beautiful bride next. 2) We received a message live during the recording from the HPDE student Tim and Bill worked with at the last Mid Ohio event together 3) How learning on a lower power/momentum car can benefit your learning, especially as a relatively new performance driver in HPDE's 4) Some of the benefits of learning in a lower power car on the track. 5) It sounds like we can expect to see Tim and a few friends joining us at endurance races in the coming seasons. 6) Vicki and Tim have a great discussion about the importance of being present, in the moment when driving on track. 7) Our first ever Joey Pollack flight training story. Hopefully we can have Joey on a future podcast. 8) Tim discusses the use of checklists and some of the better ways that they can be used in aviation and racing. Tim describes several great examples of how to use checklists in endurance racing. 9) We discussed the relatively new NASA TREX endurance racing series and may be able to finally start racing next season. There are several differences to the series we have competed in to this point.
GHIT 0235: GHiT Garage, Podcast, and Team Update
The Garage Heroes In Training team has had quite a summer on the track so far and with our racing season beginning to wind down, but far from done on the track, we thought we would bring everyone up to speed with where we are with the podcast, how our driving and racing is progressing, and what our car related projects are going into the fall and winter repair and build programs. This is a quick episode, but we have so many moving balls (people and cars) it may appear random or confusing at points. However, there is a plan, and as always a spreadsheet or two. In case you missed it, our podcast format has changed recently due to popular demand. Monday is our normal podcast release day for the week. On Tuesday our Dominating with Dawson segment for the week will be released as its own stand alone episode. Wednesday may or may not have a bonus episode as needed. This could be a Way Off Our Topic episode (WOOT), a race review from the weekend, team updates, garage updates etc. We hope you enjoy the new release format. Thanks again. Special thanks to Chris and Chrissie from the Everyone Racers podcast and Three Pedal Mafia for stopping by last weekend to advise us on the 1993 Honda build and our path forward for the next few months. Vicki is looking into what she could/should do with her currently turbo'ed 1999 NB Miata. Any suggestions? DwD 0234: Jargon 101: Body Roll - No, not a Jelly Roll
On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we go over jargon again and cover what body roll is, how it affects your car, and how it can help and hurt you on track. The physics of racing are consistent and not able to be broken, but knowing them allows you to use them to your benefit and minimize any deleterious impacts through driving accommodations and potentially in setting up or building your vehicle. Ben even offers several of the potential knobs that can be turned to affect the degree and speed of the body roll. GHIT 0233: Ken Hill on Driving and Riding
Ken Hill is an accomplished motorcycle racer and sought after coach. Ken was kind enough to join us for a great discussion on track driving and riding. While often thought of as very different, most of the skills and techniques translate fully between riding a motorcycle and driving a car on a track. Ken has a podcast that goes into a lot of Ken's preferred techniques and philosophies about track riding that Ken had developed to assist him in his personal progression as a competitive racer and then refined them with his work with the very best of the best riders and drivers in the world. Once we had listened to Ken's podcast, we simply had to have him on because he has a way of conveying the information that is unique and often leads to a deeper or different understanding of the principles that often leads to those "Ahh Hah" moments each of us is looking for when at the track. This is one of our must listen episodes if you are looking to grow as a driver, rider, and racer. As is his podcast, creatively titled as the Ken Hill Podcast. PS We end up using PittRace as an example track during this episode so if it is safe, it may be helpful to have a track map during some of our conversation. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) We start off with a discussion of the potential consequences of high performance riding and driving. This is often glossed over but is an important aspect of our sport and must be kept in mind whenever participating on the track. 2) Ken also goes into some of his history starting with cars and then transitioning into motorcycles and recently completed the loop by adding his first personal race car. 3) His personal story started a bit later than what is typical and had an unanticipated benefit to his riding and coaching. Since he started late and had "less time", Ken focused on how he could progress as efficiently as possible and make up for the lost time. This began his search for the fundamental principles and techniques that have been foundational to his personal riding and the riding and driving of his students. 4) To the surprise of no one, the importance of vision skills has been demonstrated as a key technique to improve as a driver and the great news is that this can be trained and improved to help virtually anyone interested in performance driving and riding. Ken also goes into the importance of what to look at (content), when to look at things and for how long (timing and duration), as well as an overview of some of Ken's eye training techniques. 5) We go into the correlation between riding a motorcycle and driving a car on track. The similarities are not quite 100% transferable, but it is pretty close in most cases. 6) Our podcast has tried to bring in some of Ken's principles, especially in our Dominating with Dawson segments with Ben. In this episode, Ken clarifies these concepts further and we go into his methodology of breaking down a bit further. We finally do a much better job at discussing what is an entry corner and what is an exit corner, how to determine and how that affects the optimal path and input timing within the specific turn. 7) The key items we discuss are the five principles that Ken utilizes to break down high performance riding and driving. 1) Bike/Car placement, 2) Vision/Focus, 3) Motor Controls, 4) Brake Adjustability, 5) Turn in Point/Turn in Rate, 6) Body Position/Body Timing 8) Ken may have provided the key to Jen and Vicki's high speed braking zone issues that have limited/plagued them this season. We hope to see Ken at Nelson Ledges later this year and do the drills with Ken in the parking lot. 9) What are the 5 fundamental reasons for crashing? 1) Lack of Focus/Lack of a Plan, 2) Abrupt inputs, 3) Rushing Direction (entry), 4) Repeating a mistake, 5 Overconfidence 10) We also discuss the 5 reference points of each turn: 1) Exit Apex, 2) Entry Apex, 3) Slowest Point of a Corner (EoB), 4) Turn In Point, 5) Beginning of Braking (BoB). Another key is to work backwards, just as these are written and discussed. Additionally, we also touch on how to determine the Vital Point for each turn. We have a ton more questions for Ken and hope to have him on the podcast again, soon. Please let us know if we missed something or were unclear during our discussion. DwD 0231: Breaking Down A Turn - One Approach
DwD 0231: Breaking Down A Turn - One Approach On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we go over a way that (hopefully future guest) Ken Hill breaks down a turn into entry turns and exit turns where you can prioritize either speed in, or speed out of a turn or balance of both. The discussion goes into a few different directions than originally intended, but hopefully this discussion will help you when driving on track. GHIT 0230: Tom O'Gorman AKA TomO from TOMO Racing and ASM
Tom O'Gorman is currently racing the Grid Life GLTC series with ASM and has competed and won at some of the highest levels as a professional driver for several teams. He is also a sought after racing coach for drivers at all levels. We talk with him about his entire career, remaining goals, as well as his driver coaching. Far be it from us to not ask him about a few coaching questions. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) How he has grown as a driver by being able to experience a wide variety of cars quickly from a very young age when he was autocrossing. This cross training has led to his ability to adapt to cars very quickly and race in all style cars as needed. 2) We take a moment to ask Tom which car he hasn't driven in (yet) that he would like to drive a race in at least once. We think Adam may have to have a driver shuffle event to complement his field invert race, lol. 3) It is amazing how early and deeply auto racing "drove" within Tom when he discovered some of the early console driving games. 4) We firmly believe that if Tom wins both autocross events in the NSX, he should be allowed to keep the NSX. This could be another example of why we have no sponsors, lol. 5) Tom even shared a great example of how even for a driver at his level that some weekends just don't go as well as we would wish and how Covid has impacted his racing. We also go into his GLTC series racing history and how the Grid Life series has grown and continues to grow. It is like a spec series in the closeness of the racing without a single car design. 6) We poke Tom for some Mid Ohio rain tips. He was nice enough to give a few of the things he has learned at his home track. Vicki is insistent wet Mid Ohio is like lava. Bill is starting to piece that together. 7) The potential of the use of a 200 tread wear tire in GLTC and the potential advantages and disadvantages of a potential switch. 8) Tom also discussed the Grid Life Sundae Cup series. 9) We also go into coaching drivers at all levels, the use of in car coaching, as well as video, data, and even coach driving demonstration to help every level driver improve. 10) Pushing limits and breaking though limits comes up again. Hypothetically, lol.
WOOT 0229: The Suicide Squad and Comparing the MCU and DCEU
WOOT Stands for Way Off Our (normal) Topic so this is NOT a driving or racing episode What began as a simple review of James Gunn's new movie The Suicide Squad quickly became a debate of the DC Extended Universe and the MCU from Marvel. Benny and Alex return to their WOOT origin and feel Bill is biased against the DCEU. So we rank all the DCEU and the MCU movies to date and discuss the upcoming movies in both series. We also had a short discussion of the first three Marvel tv shows on Disney+. A link to this episode of the podcast is: https://tinyurl.com/DCEUvMCU
DwD 0228: Why Race Cars Don't have Airbags or Steering Wheel Locks
On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we go over why most of our racing series require the steering wheel lock to be removed from the vehicle and why airbags are not used in race cars. Apparently, the police were in the area during our discussion, apologies for the sirens. Neither of these will help you on track in a race car and both can actually hurt you if left in place.
GHIT 0227: Our Race Review of the Thompson 2021 - Part Deux
We finally have the whole El Jeffe team together to discuss our all ladies piloted team. Elizabeth and Audra joined Jennifer and Vicki to talk about the race, how things went over the weekend and if/when the ladies will be returning to the track together. The results of the race were exceptional. The only issues we had that were racing related were due to the initial issue we fixed on Saturday. Considering that this was Audra's first ever wheel to wheel race and Elizabeth had only entered two prior events, we are viewing this as a great win for the team. Hear all the details, even some of the super secret ones. All in all, each of them grew as drivers and learned a ton this weekend! Still waiting for Alan's SpiderStang update but there was something shiny near his house so, ……. PS If you can't tell, Vicki was very excited to have the team back together to discuss the race. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) Some of the shocking differences that Audra experienced in her first wheel to wheel race. 2) Elizabeth and the team discuss some of the unforeseen benefits of having the seat adjusted for their size and not making due. 3) Audra goes over our race strategy for her first stint on Saturday, as well as getting to practice on Friday before the event started with a much lower car count on the track. 4) Elizabeth (and everyone) also found the practice helpful but really got a lot out of the (amazing) track walk with our friends at the Three Pedal Mafia. 5) Find out if we have grabbed Audra from autocross? We hope not. We love both. 6) The ladies discuss how important vision and spatial awareness is, especially as the speed increases or the traffic increases. 7) We also address how each driver is a member of the team and how each car is really also part of the team and (usually) work together on track. 8) The entire team began to see the benefits of having spotters on the track for each other, as well as the race craft. 9) Audra tries to convey the chaos of a race weekend. We have done so many events that we don't even notice anymore. 10) The team discusses several ways of managing traffic, as well as passing and being passed on a fairly crowded track. 11) How the ladies did in the paddock and garage prep by the team. We were a bit out of our normal groove with all the unintended changes to our team pre-race, but everything went really well even though we had 3-4 different issues this weekend, one was for the last 5 or so races. 12) Audra and Elizabeth also pointed out hat we missed a few opportunities to refine our tire pressures through the weekend. Added to our list. Along with a few other items we learned or noticed this race. 13) Pit Stops. We did a few, lol. Black flags, not so much. 14) Apparently, Audra is also part of the Connecticut tourism board and they were having a meeting in our paddock. Who knew? 15) It looks like Bill is going to have to find someone to drive with him (if the ladies have anything to say about it). Don't forget that you can follow Audra and her co-hosts on the Shifting Points Podcast.
DwD 0226: Adapting a Car to the Driver or the Driver to the Car
On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we discuss the mutual ideas of adapting a car to a driver and adapting your driving to the car. Both of these are keys to improving your performance at and especially during a race. We even have a great time with Vicki and Ben bulldozing each other several times in a row. Lol. We lost the last few seconds so this one ends a bit more abruptly than we had hoped.
GHIT 0225: Samir Abid from Your Data Driven
Samir Abid has been a vehicle dynamics engineer for road and racing car suspensions for over ten years. He then created a sports engineering business to help pro and Olympic teams and athletes to optimize their performance through analytical techniques. In addition, Samir is also competing himself in club level racing and understands the needs and dynamics of racing at all levels. In an effort to help fellow amateur drivers, Samir created his podcast "Your Data Driven" and website to help share what he has learned on the top levels of sports. His focus is on improving your race car setup, collection, interpretation, and use of data, and your driving skills and approach. There is a ton of great information on each episode of the podcast and Samir also shares away a ton of useful tools on the Your Data Driven website, many for free. Some of our favorites are the "Complete Beginners Guide to Motorsports Data Analysis and his Ultimate Tire Guide. Samir is constantly generating new content and you can keep up with his work on his free weekly(ish) newsletter. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) We cover a bit of his work on the team trying to break the 2 hour barrier in the marathon and how the treadmill can be used to eject most runners when set to this pace. A great video (with over 17 million views) on trying to keep the record marathon pace is at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRYtn0j5ccAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRYtn0j5ccA 2) Samir's experiences when first going to race on track. As always his "natural driving ability" was in for a shock once he competed with other racing drivers. 3) What information is fundamental to having good quality information including video and what data to review at the track between sessions when time is usually limited. 4) Setting goals vs analyzing results in racing and defining what a win is for each event you enter. 5) We go into the differences between our local (US) resources to learn at an HPDE vs the race training resources more common in the UK. 6) Samir is surprised at the concentration of cars that can be involved with budget endurance racing in many of the series in the US. Who knows, once the pandemic is behind us, Samir may be racing with us at an event. We hope. 7) Bill has a great question about racing car setup priorities but fails to actually ask it in a way that any human would understand. (Although Samir does provide an excellent answer to a horribly worded question) We will try again when we have Samir back on. lol. 8) The complexities involved with sharing a single car in our endurance racing series. 9) Several of the highlights and great information that Samir has had within his podcast to this point and several of the other resources he has available on his website. GHIT 0224: Our Race Review of Thompson 2021 - Part 1
Our ladies team came to Thompson and even though the entire prep week blew up in our face, the weekend as a whole went fantastically. Vicki and Jen go over some of the highs and lows of the race on this episode. We are hopeful for a part 2 with Audra and Elizabeth, and perhaps even Alan, to go over their thoughts on the weekend. The El Jeffe race truck stumbled a bit at the beginning of the weekend, but we were able to work through the problem eventually with a bit of help from our friends in the paddock and we may have solved the intermittent electrical problems that have popped up over this entire season. More to follow next week. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) We started with several of the prep debacles, for once they did not involve prepping the car, but unfortunately it involved just about everything else. 2) Since it was Audra's first time racing wheel to wheel and Elizabeth's first time in the truck, they thought it would be a good idea to get acclimated on the Friday practice. 3) Thankfully, this allowed us to start to work on the engine bogging issue. We go through the symptoms and what we tried to solve the issue. We may actually have found the true problem and we also ended up with a lot of spare parts. 4) Our generator issue continues and we aren't sure if it is us or the rental RV's. Do electrical problems only occur to teams that aren't electrically literate? Asking for a friend. 5) We try to cover how the SpiderStang team of Alan, Bennet, Quinn, and Elazar went, but left a lot of the details out for a future episode with them. 6) Thoughts on the track walk and the track in general. The data shows that both Vicki and Jennifer made great strides during the race, each setting personal bests by several seconds. Jennifer may have even conquered her issues on the long straights. We will confirm at our next event. 7) Any guesses on how many black flags for the ladies?
DwD 0223: Tossing a Car Into a Turn - Jargon 101
On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we cover the new to Jennifer term of tossing a car into a turn. While it seems to be losing popularity, we have heard it a few times at the track in the paddock, so in our pursuit of not looking like we don't know anything, we thought we would cover it here. We then move into a discussion of driving styles and choices that may help you as well. A link to the episode: https://tinyurl.com/DwD223
GHIT 0222: Ryan Power - Life as a New Racing Driver
Ryan Power recently graduated from comp school with his racing license and competes in wheel to wheel sprint races in his 2019 ND2 Miata. Bill had met Ryan and been driving at HPDE's with Ryan for the past few seasons. While still relatively new at racing, Ryan's results are very good for his rookie season with several podium finishes and race wins. Unfortunately, Ryan has also experienced a significant incident on track and seen the inherent risk in racing wheel to wheel. We wanted to cover Ryan's recent transition from HPDE to Comp School to racing wheel to wheel, as well as what it is like to get back on track after a significant accident. GHIT 0221 Our All Female 24 Hours of Lemons Racing Team for Thompson 2021
We are planning for our first ever All Ladies 24 Hours of Lemons racing entry at the upcoming Thompson event. Vicki and Jennifer will be racing in the 2003 Chevy S-10/Isuzu Hombre race truck. They will be joined by past podcast guests Elizabeth and Audra, for her first wheel to wheel racing event. Alan will be racing in the 1984 Mustang GT Turbo with his sons Bennett and Quinn, who is joining us for his first race, and Elazar with Bill as a backup. We go through our prepping of the drivers and cars, as well as our goals going into the event. We started our team with a goal of eventually having an all female team entry and are finally able to do so at this event. Elizabeth has raced in Lemons several times before, but this will be Audra's first ever wheel to wheel race, although she has tons of experience in autocross. The race is coming up this weekend. We will try to keep you posted.
DwD 0220: Jargon 101: What is a Log Book and What Does It Entail
On this issue of Dominating with Dawson, we go into what is meant by log booking or having a race car that is log booked. It is really not terribly complicated but it is something that you may eventually need to do and it is always better to not sound uninformed. Let us do that for you, lol. (PS It turns out we do have a log book from Lucky Dog, we just didn't know that was what it was.)
