A look at Formula 1 Technology with Steven Rendle and time for 'Konrad's Car Clinic'.
Formula 1 racing is a very high-end and expensive endeavor. The cars are considered things of beauty and engineering marvels. Currently, all F1 cars run the same motor - a V6 capable of 850 horsepower at 16,000 rpm! They may not be the absolute fastest, but add in the cornering ability and braking that can create enough g-force to hurt a driver, and they become automotive marvels.Author Steve Rendle joins us from the UK to talk about his book on the technology that goes into an F1.In our feature segment, it is Master ASE Tech Konrad DeLong with the Car Clinic and he is talking about piston rings - what they are, what they do, and how some of them work.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk!---- ----- Want more In Wheel Time car talk any time? Battery Management - the key to EV success? Metis Engineering Cell Gaurd, and how 'bout some 'Affordable '60s Muscle'...
Electric Vehicle technology is changing so fast, sometimes it is hard to keep up, particularly with the advancements in batteries. While the batteries are a key component, we don't hear a lot about those other than what range is enabled. To make it all work, the power of the battery has to be utilized in the most efficient manner while extending it as long as possible. However, as with most batteries, which we don't think of, there are safety considerations - voltage, heat, and even chemical production from the use of the batteries.Metis Engineering has developed a 'different' way of monitoring the health of EV batteries and Joe Holdsworth is joining us to explain why this is necessary and what their solution is.In our feature segment, Jeff Dziekan takes at look at some '60's affordable muscle'.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk!---- ----- Want more In Wheel Time car talk any time? Big week for recalls! and a review of the 2023 Kia Telluride SX!
It is a really big week for recalls across the industry, with over 2.5 million do not drive notices! Almost the entire alphabet of makers can be found on the list.To check your vehicles, go to SaferCar.gov and put in your vin#, which can be found on your insurance card or on the dash plate of the vehicle. We recommend doing this twice a year, as history has shown that there can be recalls on the recalls...and maybe even a recall on the recall that was recalled. In the New Car Showroom, Michael Marrs has a review of the 2023 Kia Telluride SX, a 3-row mid-size SUV with a lot of features.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! Consumer Reports adds more track and we have a review of the '23 Tacoma Trail 4x4.
Long known for being a neutral 'testing' body that consumers can look to for information that is not biased by the need for direct sales, Consumer Reports takes a look at almost everything! Refrigerators, TVs, washers, dryers and more. A big portion of their effort goes into automobiles.Of course to properly test the modern automobile, it takes a lot of people and lot of space. In fact the more complicated automobiles become, seems the more space is needed to test. Back when it started, Consumer Reports bought up an old drag strip and started from there. Recently, they actually added on to the track in a big way. Joining us for this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk is Maddie McCarty, with Consumer Reports to let us know more about the automobile testing. In our feature segment, it is the New Car Showroom where Don Armstrong is checking out the new 2023 Toyota Tacoma - the best selling mid-size pickup.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! A Pike's Peak Monster or what it takes to Race to the Clouds! Time for the Car Clinic!
In America, road races are few and far between. One of the 'most' famous is 'The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb' or simply Pike's Peak. It is a race up to the top of Pikes Peak, 12.42 miles that climbs to a height of 14,115 above sea level - hence it also referred to as The Race to the Clouds. The original road, 1916, was gravel, creating a lot of exciting action. Over the years it was paved so all events are now run on asphalt. There are several classes, with the fastest being an open wheel category, but they are all pretty fast.Richard Tomlin, Houston Regional SCCA Executive is also part of the Safety Team for the Pikes Peak race, so he has an inside look at some of the vehicles. While not a driver for a lot of reasons, Richard does have a car that he built for the event and he takes some time to give us a look at what it takes to build a Pikes Peak Monster. In our Feature Segment, it is Konrad's Car Clinic. All this and more on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! Fleet Managers get new tools for the new age automobile fleet! Jeff Dziekan - 'Funny Car Names...'
There is a saying, 'Technology is our friend', with a lot of people willing to debate if that is true or not. We do have more information at our finger tips, and we have a tremendous amount of safety features on new automobiles. It is an ongoing process of development, but it does make us safer drivers...which hopefully translates into better drivers. As a fleet manager with long haul rigs, being a better driver can mean a lot of things. Not only avoiding accidents or damaging the load, but taking car of the truck from a maintenance perspective. This includes driving to take care of the vehicle so that wear and tear are reduced and maintenance is handled before something breaks.Where does something like that start? Joining us on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk, COO of CerebrumX is Sumit Chauhan, a data processing company. As Summit describes, it goes much further than just 1+1=2, it is knowing what to do with data. While this is newer use of technology, the possibilities are there for a wide variety of applications....things that make ya' go hmmm.In our Feature Segment, Jeff Dziekan takes a look at 'Six Funny Car Names' that are real world...and make us wonder what else is out there.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! New Car Sales report for the Houston Region from the HADA Chairman and it is 'Konrad's Car Clinic'.
For the last few years, car sales have been down down down...for a lot of reasons that are generally traced back to the pandemic for starters. Supply chain issues followed, then just getting parts for the supply chain helped create a lot of vacant concrete at dealers across the country. In Houston, it is the Houston Automobile Dealers Association that helps dealers with some of these issues. By banding together, the competitors are able to help each other through the tough times that impact them all. Working together to find a solution is often easier than doing it alone.Joining us on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk is the Chairman of the association with an update on new vehicles sales and how some the area dealers are surviving in this market. In our Feature Segment, Master ASE tech Konrad Delong has the 'Car Clinic' and we are talking transmission fluid. There IS a High School Racing Association and GM is working on a new 'tow dolly'.
There are all kinds of statistics and reports and data that will attest to a young man's fascination with automobiles. Joining us on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk is Jonathon Eckelberg, the 'driving force' behind the High School Racing Association. Also joining us is Curtis Hellickson, a young man that is an actual high school racer. On the surface, this may seem counterproductive as it relates to teen drivers, however, once the rules are understood, and the actual action is understood, there is a lot to be gained by these young people. Short Track Oval Racing, Southern Style with the Revved Up Sports Show! The new Toyota Sequoia Capstone in the New Car Showroom!
Short track oval racing is a form of motorsport that takes place on oval-shaped tracks typically less than one mile in length. Short track oval racing is also known for its grassroots nature, with local tracks and regional series creating an unofficial farm league the is playing a role in the growth of the sport. So there is a long history, even though it is regional in nature with local champions and even local 'announcers' that become part of the show. Joining us on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk is Rodney Rodriguez, a long time racing fan, regional historian, and an accomplished track announcer/race caller. 'REAL' EV maintenance and some very real maintenance safety issues that don't make the headlines!
Reading the headlines, it is very easy to think that an EV - Electric Vehicles - doesn't have the same maintenance issues or schedules that an internal combustion engine vehicle has. That is somewhat true, however, due to the very nature of being 'electric', the EV has some very different maintenance concerns that still include cooling systems, fluids, and some very special safety tools that are required by a truly certified EV tech.Joining us is the Senior VP of Operations for Opus IVS, a support/training/knowledge data base organization who will share some eye opening aspects of maintaining an EV. Sure an EV is quiet and quick, but it is also heavier than the ICE vehicle equivalent so wear and tear is 'different' for starters.Join us to hear more from this aspect of EVs professionals that doesn't make the headlines. All this and more on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk!Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk!---- ----- Want more In Wheel Time car talk any time? AI meets RVing - the AdventureGenie is out of the bottle! A review of the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk!
Camping and RVing has long been a family tradition. Many people started with the idea of simply getting away to nature. Back when the family truckster was a station wagon, folding the seats down and sleeping there was an easy start. From there, an upgrade to a tent and the associated gear to eat and sleep in nature came into play. For many of us, roughing it is a cheap motel, but for others, a luxury RV is the only way to go. Some people even go to the point of living in their RV, traveling around this big country of ours. It is always a challenge to find the next stop, the next campground or sight to see. Books, maps, even a big road atlas became to tools to find tomorrow.Technology is our friend...sometimes. Scott Lengel, CEO of AdventureGenie joins us with an example of how technology is not only our friend, but might just become an important part of 'living' in an RV. Join us to hear more about this fascinating development and learn what it might mean for your next RV experience. In our Feature Segment, the New Car Showroom, Michael Marrs takes a look at the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe - one of the most awarded SUVs goes EV with a plug-in hybrid power train. All this and more on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk!Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk!---- ----- Want more In Wheel Time car talk any time? The idea of a bunch of hot rodders getting together is nothing new. It has been going on for who knows how long - almost any town across America probably has a hang- out for Friday or Saturday night. Maybe even on a spring Sunday afternoon. According to organizer Bobby Sparkman, 'Our mission is to bring like minded car and truck enthusiast together to get their vehicles out of the garage for a multi-day event across Texas in a family friendly environment.' From this idea, the Hot Rod Tour of Texas was born. Now in the second year, 300-automotive enthusiasts signed up to start the tour in Victoria, Texas. Don Armstrong made the initial event, and this year, the rest of the crew couldn't stand not getting involved. So we met up with the tour and tagged along talking to some of the participants and the a few of the hosts. In this episode, we learn about a '49 Wyllis Wagon that came over from Louisiana, we pay a visit to the Sampson Machine shop, and find a road ready Chevy Apache. All this and more on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk.Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk!---- ----- Want more In Wheel Time car talk any time?
