It is always fun to find an new auto museum as it is always a surprise to see what they have collected over the years. In Texarkana, which can literally be Texas or Arkansas, we found the 'Four State Auto Museum', which we learned is actually in Texarkana, Arkansas. That is ok, as Jim Christian explains, it takes a little bit from everywhere.We get to cover some of the museum, learn of Jim's personal collection, and some of the other vehicles on hand. We also learned about an upcoming event that sounds like great fun! Every five years, the museum puts together a 'Bandit Run'' - yep you guessed it. Running from Texarkana to Atlanta with plenty of TransAms showing up to participate. The 2022 evvent will be this May 22, 2022. Houston Raceway Park/2022 Spring Nationals update - Seth Angel!
Last year, we talk with the managment of Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas, about the future of the track.Houston Raceway Park is one of the historic NHRA venues for more than 30 years. The track is home to numourous record breaking runs making it a facility that the racers look forward to attending. For the spectators? Plenty of track side seating and a pit area large enough for walking through to see the cars and people closer than then starting line. Unfortunately, the track property was sold, making the 2022 NHRA Spring Nationals the last event. Fortunately Seth shared with us that the track would remain open until the end of 2022 for local racers and some special events that were looking for a new home. It is a crazy world. This time we asked Seth about 2023 rumors and he did confirm that arrangments have been made for the track to remain operational for one more year! Will NHRA return in 2023? Working with a 1966 Plymouth Baracuda Formula S that his father bought in 1972 for $400, the factory 273 still resides under the hood with a few other upgrades to keep this a very nice street car. It is a '87 Turbo V6 Buick Regal owned by Jodie Hines and a 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage in the Pre-owned Showroom.
When looking at the '80s, easy to forget that there was still a little performanc coming out of Detroit. Looking at the Rosewood colored 1987 Buick Regal, until you open the hood, you would think it is just another wanna' be muscle car. Once you open the hood and see that turbo V6, it takes on a different look. Not a 10-second street car, but something that might suprise a few Mustangs and Camros. Through the period correct interior and you have a nice throwback with only 78k mile on it.Jodie Hines drove the Buick to Tailpipes & Tacos and entered the judging. '55 Chevy's rule and Danny Graham knows why! This Week In Auto History is here!
When a lot of people think about 'ol school hot rods, the '32 coupe or roadster may come to mind. For Danny Graham, it is a 1955 Chevrolet drag car that has been converted to a street car! This is not surprising since he also owns a '32 Ford and a '41 Champion Studebaker hot rod.So Danny drops in a 327, a 5-speed tranny, and a set of 411 gears for go. For the show, the car has old school real wheel wells cut and it has beensprayed a nice Forrest Green from Pontiac in 1968. It is an 'invite only' show that not only includes some of the finest automobiles in the country, but classic boats that show on the water. Beautiful wooden boats that have been restored are mixed with yachts on the water surrounded by classic automobiles, the type of which are often seen at places like Pebble Beach.This is a two-day event, and the man responsible for leading the all volunteer team to hold this event is Bob Fuller. It is the 37th Annual Spindletop Rods Car show! The 2021 Hyundai Veloster is in the Pre-owned Showroom!
For 37 years, the Spindletop Rod Club has held their annual car show - despite hurricans and storms. Mother Nature did win the fall weather battle, so the event was moved to the spring when the weather is much more cooperative and let's the event grow back to being one of the premirer events in SE Texas. This is an open show so long as the vehicle is at least 30-years old. John Carnahan, owner of an awesome '69 Camaro that he has owned for over 40 years, joins us with an update on this years event.
