LAB-359-Don't Buy A 2024 Harley-Davidson Touring Model Before You Listen To This
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we talk about the recently released 2024 Harley-Davidson Touring Models. Specifically the 2024 Road Glide, the 2024 Street Glide, and the 2024 CVO Road Glide ST. I had the opportunity to ride these backs recently in Law Vegas at a Harley-Davidson media event. I learned quite a bit of information to pass along to you, the consumer. In the episode, I get into motor size. Variable Valve Timing (VVT) motors versus non-VVT motors, suspension, the new Skyline OS Operating System, performance parts, and more. Hopefully, the info we provide will help you decide which bike is right for you. For the last several years you could purchase a standard model and a special model. The standard model was more affordable but lacked many desirable items. The special model cost more but had many upgraded items. Now, the "standard" model comes with everything the special models of the past had. The starting price point (chrome finishings) comes in at a price in between what the standard and special model cost. One thing to note is black finishings and certain colors cost more. The new "standard" model is a good starting platform to build from. You can go the performance bagger or the long haul touring route with them. The 2024 CVO Road Glide ST is an all-new model. It is inspired by the King of the Baggers race series. I've been predicting a bike like this for some time. My prediction was wilder including mid controls for more lean angle allowing an amature racer to take it out on the track out of the box. The CVO Road Glide ST has many race-inspired upgrades including carbon fiber parts, an M8 121 motor with upgrades, performance SHOWA suspension, radial Brembo brakes, special track modes, and more. Here is what I will say; look back on your last two years of riding and evaluate the type of riding you do. The CVO ST may be the bike for you if want to haul ass and carve up the canyons. Alternatively, the "standard" models may be best if you want to tour. Ultimately you'll be happy if you purchase either. Now, get out there and ride already! LAB-357-2024 Harley-Davidson Models Released and Predictions
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch, and we review the released 2024 Harley-Davidson Models. We also give our predictions about what may or may not be released on January 24, 2024. Harley is doing a virtual launch event on the 24th at 10 AM CST. You can sign up for the event HERE. We will put out a video and podcast following the virtual launch on the 24th. Harley released some of the 2024 models via the website recently. These are the bikes that are carryovers from 2023. Our belief is they did this to keep dealers stocked with new bikes. You see, in 2023 there were a couple of production shutdowns. One was related to a defective brake line from a third-party provider and the other was due to a parts shortage. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Missing models (as of the date of this recording) from the 2024 lineup are the Fat Bob 114, all CVO models, all Street Glide models, all Road Glide models except the Limited, and the Pan America standard model. So, one can infer there is going to be something new with the touring models and perhaps the Fat Bob 114. Ryan predicts the 107 Milwaukee 8 motor will be no more after this year. He believes the 114" VVT motor will be in the special models along with the new dash and fairings. He believes the standards will have the older Boom Box GTS unit and a smaller motor. Ryan also believes that Harley will come out with a King of the Bagger model that is more track-ready than the ST models. Lurch and Ryan predict that there will be a mid-sized Pan America. Lurch predicts the standard models of the Street Glide and Road Glide may be cut. Last year there were many models of the Glides including the standard, specials, limited, STs, and CVOs. That is a lot of models and in his opinion, the higher-level models are more coveted. The standard glides not being a part of the pre-launch spurred Lurch's prediction. Harley removed the surcharge imposed on new motorcycle sales. The surcharge was instituted in July 2021 to combat production and shipping costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the surcharge cancellation, a couple of models were slightly reduced in price; those being the Nightster and the Nightster Special. LAB-356-2024 Indian Motorcycles Lineup

The Indian Motorcycle company hosted a media event in Southern California a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, we didn't get an invite but we have learned a few things since then. For the FTR, Scout, Springfield, and Chief the updates pretty much only consist of color and graphics. With that said, India released two new colors; Sunset Red Metallic and Sunset Red Smoke. A new model for 2024 is the FTR X 100% R CARBON. This was a collaboration with 100%, known mostly for riding goggles. This is a limited edition creation with only 400 units released worldwide. This new FTR sports Ohlins suspension, blue carbon fiber body parts, and Akrapovic exhaust. It's a turbulent industry right now. You've probably seen earning reports from our brand and some of the other competitors in the space. We're navigating that really well. What's been cool to see for Indian specifically is our market share performance. A couple of weeks ago we had market share leadership in the mid-size category. That is our Scout lineup, for the first time and that is really cool to see. Leading with the Scout lineup, but we're going to focus on other lineups here today, but that continues to be a great performer for our brand. And that's bringing people into the Indian Motorcycle family and over time they're graduating into our other vehicles. Indian Motorcycles released a new audio upgrade they call Powerband. It is coming on the Elite models with what they call the bass boost tune. It has a 9-band equalizer, pre-tuned settings, ride command integration, and underglow speaker lighting. The speakers are rated at 100 watts as compared to the normal 50-watt speakers. Indian claims there is 50% more bass with this new system. This topic was spurred by a voicemail message left by long-time listener Steve Kastell. Steve expressed concern about the impartiality of my Harley-Davidson motorcycle reviews. His concern stemmed from the fact that the majority of the motorcycle ride and review events I attend are hosted by Harley-Davidson. The topic then flows into the announcement that our YouTube Channel just went past 200,000 subscribers. I talk about the journey to get to 200k subscribers; the good and the bad. We will pick out things that can be improved on even if they are "knit-picky". The truth is, I've been hard on Harley in the past and still point out when they can do better. A common complaint of street riders is that other motorists fail to observe them. Motorists who violate motorcyclists' right-of-way frequently state, "I didn't see him," or "He came out of nowhere". We talk about rider clothing, equipment, lighting, paint, and more. Apparel A bright-colored helmet will catch the motorist's attention and enhance motorcycle safety. Over 70 percent of helmets sold are black. Most collisions occur in broad daylight. Wear brightly-colored or reflective clothing to increase your chances of being seen. Bright orange, red, yellow, or green jackets or vests are the best for being seen. Brightly colored helmets can also help others see you. Reflective material on a vest and the sides of the helmet will help drivers see you from the side. Reflective material can also be a big help for drivers coming toward you or from behind. Remember, your body is half of the visible surface area of the rider/motorcycle unit. Motorcycle Color Your best bet might be to go with a white motorcycle, which is bright, reflects light, and stands out from other colors. While white might not be the first choice for riders, it can appear as a classy option. For instance, a white Harley-Davidson shows off your power and style when you're cruising around town. During the hot summer months, it will reflect light and absorb less heat than a darker motorcycle. However, you'll have to be careful if you're riding a bright white bike against snow. If you're going to be frequently riding in this type of weather condition, ride a bike with a contrasting color. In daylight, green is the most visible color from a distance for human eyes. In the darkness, however, yellow is the easiest color to recognize. Lighting The best way to help others see your motorcycle is to always keep the headlight and, if equipped, running lights on. A motorcycle with its light on is twice as likely to be noticed. Using your high beam during the day and at night increases the chances that oncoming drivers will see you. Use your high beam when it is legal and safe to do so. When it is foggy, use the low beam. It's been flooding our social media advertising and we're sure it's been flooding yours. What is it all about and how does it stack up against the Biker Gripper? We here at Law Abiding Biker Media are always open to examining and reviewing rivals to the Biker Gripper cell phone motorcycle mount system. To date, we have not found any other mount system that comes close to the strength, looks, build, quality, and functionality of the Biker Gripper. So, after Quad Lock was spending loads of advertising dollars to push their motorcycle cell phone mount in front of us in our social media feeds, we bought one to handle and test it. Does the Quad Lock stack up to the world's best motorcycle cell phone mount, the Biker Gripper? SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE We did some research and found that the Quad Lock was actually a Kickstarter campaign back in 2011 backed by a couple of bicyclists out of Australia. The Quad Lock was originally designed for a bicycle environment, not a motorcycle environment. It was sold to bicyclists and at some point, the company wanted to expand its market and decided to try to market it to motorcyclists. However, Quad Locks' motorcycle mount system has had serious vibration issues over the years, damaging smartphone cameras internally. And so, they've had to try to appease the angry motorcyclists with adaptations, by making a separate part called a vibration dampener that you can purchase for an additional $20. Now, it seems clear that Quad Lock knew there was a problem with vibrations in their mount system for motorcycles. However, instead of including that part for motorcycle kits, they'll charge you for it. Unless of course, you want to damage your smartphone camera internally. It's also worth noting that all Quad Lock products are made in Chinese Factories. To be fair, the Quad Lock system and cases seem to be of good quality. In contrast, the Biker Gripper motorcycle cell phone mount is produced and sold by a company of actual motorcyclists (bikers) and it was designed from the ground up for a motorcycle environment. That's why it has no vibration issues and does not damage smartphone cameras internally. The reason the Biker Gripper does not have vibration issues is that the gripper arms on the head move independently to absorb shaking and vibration. And, the rubber pad in the base with our logo on it actually provides grip and isolation from high-frequency vibration. Our logo, however badass it is, is a functional component of the gripper head. Also, the ball head system on the Biker Gripper has some give, unlike the rigid mounting system of the Quad Lock. Again, the Biker Gripper was made for motorcycles from the ground up. And, to our knowledge, the Biker Gripper is the only motorcycle mount system manufactured in the USA and not in China. After spending time with the Quad Lock, I can tell you that it's a finicky system, but you do get a bit smoother with it after practicing. You see, it's a four-tab lock system on the mount and you have to blindly align those four tabs up with the tab cutouts on the case. Once you do that, you then turn it a 1/4 turn to lock the tabs in. We give you the numbers and break them down. We provide you with Harley-Davidson's response to the numbers. We also give our thoughts on the topic. 2023 has been so far so good for Harley-Davidson fanatics. The year started with the reveal of a few new big cruisers, followed by H-D's new breed of sub-500cc offerings in Asia. Then came the headline-making 2023 CVO duo, which started a new chapter of modernity for the company. However, the story seems different behind the scenes, i.e. in terms of the MoCo's financials. As a reminder, Harley-Davidson's reporting format segments the company into three parts: Harley-Davidson Motor Company (all motorcycles except LiveWire), Harley-Davidson Financial Services, and LiveWire. This structure has been the way the Motor Company has handled its financial reporting since it transformed LiveWire into its own company in 2022. In Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (which count as one region, called EMEA for short), sales fell by 13%. For Asia-Pacific, sales fell by 24%. In this episode, we discuss the importance of motorcycle lighting and being seen. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), motorcyclists who are conspicuous are under-represented in crashes. A common complaint of street riders is that other motorists fail to observe them. Motorists who violate motorcyclists' right-of-way frequently state, "I didn't see him," or "He came out of nowhere". A variety of recognized tactics exists to make motorcycles and their riders more conspicuous: lighting, surface color and size, and rider traffic strategy. Using the high beam of a motorcycle's headlight during the day also helps to prevent violations of the motorcyclist's right-of-way, SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Headlight modulators, which cause the light to alternate between a higher and a lower intensity during the day, also increase conspicuity. Many modern street bikes are equipped with position running lamps in their front and/or rear turn signals. Few motorcycles have more than single-point rear lighting, though multiple lights at the rear would seem to offer similar benefits and also provide redundancy for the single taillight. LAB-348-Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle Stage 1 Upgrade | HD Pro Street Tuner vs Vance and Hines FP4
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Did you buy a new Harley-Davidson and want to know if you should use a Vance and Hines FP4 tuner or a Screamin' Eagle Pro Street tuner? Well, you are in luck. We recently installed Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle stage 1 intakes, exhausts, and Pro Street Tuners on two police Electra Glides for a local police agency. Before I get into the tuner debate, let me tell you what Harley-Davidson intake and exhaust were chosen. The agency decided to go with all Harley-Davidson parts. They went with the Screamin' Eagle Ventilator Air Cleaner Kit and the Screamin' Eagle High-Flow Exhaust System with Street Cannon Mufflers. The exhaust headers are made of stainless steel and are much lighter than the stock headers. The difference in weight is very noticeable. The heat shields attach to mounts that are secured to the headers with the typical hose clamp with a bolt through the heat shield. While the resulting look isn't as clean the installation is much easier. It can do all the same things as its little brother, the Fuelpak 3. The difference is that the only cams you'll be able to tune for are EPA compliant cams. And, that list of compliant cams will be added to over time within the Vance & Hines Fulepak 4 smartphone app. At the time of this article, they are supporting the Harley-Davidson 447 & 462 Screamin' Eagle EPA compliant cams. If you're just installing an intake and exhaust, certainly the Vance & Hines Fuelpak 4 is capable of that. Based on my experience, I'd definitely use the Vance and Hines Fuelpak 4 EFI tuner rather than the Screamin' Eagle Pro Street Tuner and I'll explain why. Because Harley's Screamin' Eagle EFI tuner app is so glitchy, it made auto tuning the motorcycle very frustrating. I was finally able to tune the bikes after several attempts and then get it all uploaded into the motorcycle. I likely won't have to tune these bikes again and I don't even want to get back into the SE tuner via the app because it was such a bad experience. Just head over to the Harley Screamin' Eagle EFI tuner app for yourself and see the 2-star rating and all the negative written reviews. Also, go to the Harley SE Pro Stree Tuner product page and read the reviews. The comments are all true and you'll experience all the issues you read. Second, if you get the Screamin' Eagle Pro Street Tuner you'll forever be stuck within the Harley-Davidson ecosystem. That means you'll have to buy only Harley intakes, headers, pipes, cams etc. Whereas, with the Fuelpak 4, you'll have access to all of the same Harley's components along with other aftermarket exhaust, intakes, and cams. I say, keep yourself open with a Vance & Hines Fuelpak 4 from the Law Abiding Biker Store so you always have the option to install other aftermarket components and tune your motorcycle. The plan was always to bring the Law Abiding Biker store up to the Yakima, WA area. That plan came to fruition this year. We were fortunate enough to purchase a building in Union Gap, WA that is right on Main Street. It's a great location for several reasons; it's centrally located between my house and Lurch's house, it has quick freeway access, and it's near shipping companies. I give you an honest real-world review of it. After a long wait, Indian finally set me a bike to review. Most reviewers only ride bikes for a short time. We took the Indian Pursuit on a weekend trip and put several hundred miles on it. After all, the Indian Pursuit is a touring bike and the only way to truly test it is to tour with it. My honest review will hopefully provide you with the information you need to decide if the Indian Pursuit is the bike for you. This engine was amazing as far as power and performance are concerned. This is a 1768 cc engine and it produces 122 HP and 129 ft lbs torque at 3800 RPM. I found this motor definitely comes alive at 3800 RPM and above. There is plenty of passing power and throttle blips can bring the front tire off the ground. I was very impressed with how the stock front suspension and rear suspension handled. The Indian Purusuit I had was equipped with the premium package and because of that, I could adjust the rear suspension preload within the Ride Command. This was amazing! Overall, I really enjoyed my time with this Indian Pursuit Dark Horse with the premium package. If money were no issue, I'd certainly buy a Pursuit and add it to the stable. I really didn't want to give it back. LAB-344-Wilbers LDC Nivomat Automatic Leveling Suspension | A real test!
Official Wesite: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We installed Wilbers LDC Nivomat front and rear suspension on a 2021 Harley-Davidson CVO Ultra. After riding the new Wilber's suspension on many different road surfaces, I can highly recommend this suspension and we decided to carry it right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. In this video, I give you my opinions about Wilber's suspension for Harley and compare it to several other name-brand aftermarket suspensions that I've tested over the years. WHY WE CHANGED THIS HARLEY SUSPENSION: The owner was not happy with the overall ride of this 2021 CVO, which came with the standard manually adjustable rear shocks that Harley has used for many years now on its touring models. He wanted a smoother ride and better cornering abilities, all of which the Wilbers LDC Nivomat front and rear suspension provides! SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE REVIEW/THOUGHTS: We were absolutely blown away at how much smoother this Harley CVO Ultra rode and cornered after installing Wilbers front and rear suspension! We did not realize what a difference this suspension would make! We tested it through alleys, potholes, dirt, speed bumps, and railroad tracks. And wow, it was more than we expected and we highly recommend upgrading your rear Harley shocks to Wilbers! It even got rid of most of the bagger wobble while cornering at faster speeds. The LDC shock absorber consists of two separate oil chambers, one large-diameter piston rod, a mechanical pump with a pressure valve, and a short external suspension spring. With the oil chambers, a distinction is made between external low-pressure and internal gas-assisted high-pressure chamber. When weight is put on the shock, the rod automatically pumps the oil from the low- into the high-pressure chamber. At the same time, the piston rod is pushed out of the damper. This pumping process takes only as long as it takes to balance the bike. The shock absorber settles to the correct level after driving about 1000 ft. The low-pressure chamber is located on the outside, the high-pressure chamber is on the inside. When an extra load is applied to the bike, the rod pumps oil from the middle of the low-pressure-chamber to the high-pressure-chamber – the shaft rebounds and the spring rate increases progressively. With the LDC Nivomat Twin Shock system, the system functions are divided into two individual components. The Ecoline shock absorber is equipped with a spiral steel spring and takes over part of the overall damping. The Nivomat provides the level control and adjusts the spring rate and the additional, variable damping required depending on the load. The rider doesn't need to manually adjust anything. This is why the two shocks look different in the twin shock setup. But if you have a bagger, then no one can see that they are different. How it works: The LDC Nivomat system is pre-set in a way that it reaches the pre-defined position for solo use immediately. This is approx. 1/3 of the total shock travel. In this condition, the system operates on a reduced spring rate and damping compared to a conventional shock absorber and as such provides maximum comfort for solo riders without the rebound bounce. Adding a passenger and/or luggage causes the bike to sag and to negatively affect the vehicle geometry. In this case it would normally be necessary to preload the spring on a "standard" shock absorber, but this only adjusts the overall level. The necessary adjustment of the spring rate and damping does not take place. After driving a distance of approx. 1000 ft with the rider, passenger and/or luggage, the LDC shock raises the vehicle back to the pre-defined level. The inner pump rod has pumped oil from the low-pressure to the high-pressure chamber. Due to the increased high pressure, the vehicle is lifted to the pre-defined level. At the same time, the gas spring rate has been adjusted to the load as well. The adjusted level position, vehicle geometry, spring rate, and damping are all kept constant during the entire ride, ensuring maximum comfort and driving safety. For years, law enforcement has used either the Electra Glide or the Road King. Earlier in the year I was lucky enough to see a prototype of the Road Glide Police model earlier in the year at the North American Motor Officers Association (NAMOA) training conference. In July, we attended the Harley-Davidson 120th Anniversary celebration in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Harley announced the Road Glide will be available to law enforcement agencies in 2024. I tested the Road Glide Police model thoroughly on the NAMOA skills courses. I give you my honest review of the Road Glide as a police model. There is way more than meets the eye and these motorcycles are completely redesigned, both aesthetically and in performance. Lurch and I break down all the specs of the Harley-Davidson 2023 CVOs. These 2023 Harley CVOs have a brand new Milwaukee-Eight 121 ci VVT (variable valve timing) engine, redesigned fairings, controls, handlebars, intake tract, air intake, water-cooled heads, radiator, electric fan, 12.3" infotainment system, new front and rear Showa suspension with preload and rebound damping adjustments, new radial-mounted 4-piston Brembo brakes, larger brake rotors, new wheels, LED lighting, and new storage, just to name a few things. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I recently taught a Motor Officer Basic class here in the Yakima, Washington area with students from several agencies in which students complete many police motors skills drills. I get a lot of questions from the Law Abiding Biker community about these police motors skills drills. In this podcast, I'm joined by Lurch and we discuss the recent class as well as the successes and the debacles. Officers who've attended a Motor Officer Basic class will tell you it's some of the hardest training they've ever taken. It is physically and mentally demanding. Both have their positives and negatives. I discuss this in detail during the podcast. Common items that break are clutch levers, foot pegs, windshields, and kickstand springs. Some examples are learning to work the "gray" area of your clutch, using your head and eyes correctly to make tight turns, and practicing emergency braking.
