LAB-334-Harley-Davidson Audio Powered By Rockford Fosgate | Full System Review
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast, I'm joined by Lurch and we discuss and review the complete Harley-Davidson Audio Powered by Rockford Fosgate system we installed on a 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special. The system consisted of two amplifiers, fairing speakers, saddlebag lid speakers, and two 10-inch subwoofers. We discuss the pros and potential cons of this system so you can decide if it, or part of it, is for you. The first thing to note is we tested the system with a decibel meter and it hit at and above the level of other premium systems we installed in the past. Keep in mind that motorcycle audio differs greatly from car audio. In a car, you're in an enclosed space with the speakers. On a motorcycle, the audio is going out to your environment, and at higher speeds, you're leaving the sound of rear speakers behind you. With that said the saddlebag lid speakers are designed so the speakers are pointed at the rider which may help a bit at highway speeds. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE So, let's talk specifically about the subwoofers. They are very loud when stopped or at low speed in town. I was honestly supposed how much sound/bass they produced considering the small enclosures and limited air movement. Harley-Davidson did an excellent job of designing the woofers. They slide in and out of your saddlebag easily so you can have storage room when needed. The system is controlled through an App that allows you to adjust the sound in much finer detail than the Boom Box head unit alone. You can adjust the volume of the subwoofers independently from the other speakers. There are several preset EQ curves and the availability to create a custom EQ curve. We found the Highway EQ curve helped to hear the sound at freeway speeds because it focuses on the high and mid-range sounds. The Boom Box GT units require a flash from your local Harley-Davidson dealer. The GTS units however do not require a flash. It is as loud or louder than the other premium systems we've installed. The installation is essentially plug-and-play, and easy to install with our installation video. LAB-333-Can The Indian Sport Chief Compete With Harley's Low Rider S?
Official Website: www.lawabidingbiker.com I saw that Indian came out with the 2023 Sport Chief and I said to myself, "Hey, Indian made a Harley Low Rider S". Well, it's clearly their answer to compete with Harley in that category of bike anyways. I had to take a deep look at this bike and break it down for you and give you my thoughts. How does the Indian Sport Chief match up to the Harley Low Rider S? I really needed to know. I've seen some trying to compare the Sport Chief to the Harley Low Rider ST and I wholeheartedly disagree. I test-rode and reviewed the Low Rider ST last year in Santa Barbara, CA and it's more in the category of sport touring. It has a very large fairing and windshield, an available dash stereo system with speakers, and hard saddlebags. The Sport Chief is more in the category of a sport cruiser with a very small fairing and windshield, no in-dash stereo system or speakers, and no hard saddlebags, just like the Lowrider S. Honestly, those sorts of attitudes just muddy the real conversation and facts. Understand, that we ride Harleys, Indians, and other metric bikes here on this channel and support all makes and models of motorcycles. Remember, competition in the motorcycle marketplace is GOOD and benefits all motorcycle enthusiasts. It pushes companies to put out their best products. We could really go back and forth on what things the Sport Chief or Low Rider S has that the other doesn't and price out adding a particular item or feature on. But, at the end of the day, we've found that if you make these bikes almost exactly the same with parts and features they are within a couple of hundred dollars of each other. I love my Lowrider S, but I would not think twice about owning the Sport Chief if I had extra money to throw around. I really want to ride this bike and see what it's all about. LAB-332-The Big Law Abiding Biker Expansion in 2023
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, Lurch and I discuss our plans to expand Law Abiding Biker in 2023. I started Law Abiding Biker in the Spring of 2013. It began as a podcast followed by a YouTube Channel. After a couple of years, I realized I would need to monetize Law Abiding Biker if I wanted to keep it going. So, in 2015 I started a modest online store and our first product was our beloved Biker Gripper. The Biker Gripper remains one of our best sellers to date. The "store" was in my garage and my family helped me pack and ship. It didn't take too long for us to figure out this was overwhelming for my family. The "store" was moved to Big Daddy's garage. He brought on many products and the store began to flourish. Unfortunately, in 2017 Big Daddy's garage and house caught on fire and the store was a total loss. Thank God Big Daddy was able to get out of the house and he was unharmed. We started over from the ground up and moved into a storage unit. In 2019, we found a commercial space in Richland, WA. LAB-331-Harley-Davidson 135 Crate Engine | King of the Baggers Modifications
Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we talk about the all-new Harley-Davidson 135 crate engine. We also talk about the modifications Harley has made to their King of the Baggers (KOTB) bikes to make them handle and go as fast as they do. The 135 was built directly with information gathered from the Harley-Davidson KOTB race team. Built on the Harley-Davidson 131 Milwaukee 8 platform, the larger 135 was achieved through the stroke. It is four cubic inches larger or roughly three percent. Although there was a three percent increase in displacement there was actually a ten percent increase in horsepower and torque. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE So here is what changed from the 131 to the 135: A 68-mm throttle body (as compared to a 64-mm) Mated to a C&C ported 68-mm aluminum intake manifold Developed and ran on 2022 H-D KTOB bikes New pin height on the piston to account for the stroke Piston size as far as height is less making more space in the cylinder Screamin' Eagle oil pump and cam plate standard Fuel injectors were increased to 5.5 grams per second with new injector targeting The 135 comes fully assembled and inspected by the factory. They say it's a petty easy change out. It's a drop-in for the 2021 and later M8 touring bikes. The price of the new 135 engine will be around $8,000 dollars and comes with the Screamin' Eagle warranty. Fits '21-later Touring models equipped with air/Oil-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight® engine. Does not fit Trike models. Requires separate purchase of Head Pipe P/N 65600177 and Oil Cooler Fan Assist P/N 62700204 or Fan for Factory Oil Cooler P/N 26800195. All models require ECM recalibration with Screamin' Eagle Pro Street Tuner for proper installation. Does not fit California models. Here is a list of modifications done to the KOTB bikes: The 131 c.i. LAB-330-OIL IN YOUR HARLEY AIR FILTER | HACKS & SOLUTIONS
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Do you have engine oil in your Harley air filter? Is it a problem or is it normal? In this episode, I am joined by Lurch and Oscar. Harley-Davidson vents engine pressure through banjo bolts that hold the air intake on. There are tubes on the end of the banjo bolts. The tubes are directed into the intake/filter area. When pressure builds up and oil passes through the bolts/tubes it dumps into the filter and/or is sucked into the engine through the intake. If an excess of oil builds up in your Harley air filter it can leak out and get all over your bike. We break down the issue of oil blowback; what it is and what causes it. We also discuss stock air intakes and aftermarket intakes. Some of the aftermarket intakes already have external breather bolts and catch cans. Some have external breather bolts, but route tubes back into the intake. So, what are the solutions for oil in your Harley air filter? First off, don't overfill your engine oil. We here at Law Abiding Biker run our oil level a little below the top of the acceptable range on the oil dipstick. Another option is to install an exterior oil catch system that keeps the oil out of your filter and engine. LAB-329-Exclusive Harley King Of The Baggers Access!
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I got to spend a day trackside with the Harley-Davidson King Of The Baggers riders and the entire race team in Arizona at the Podium Club Racetrack. This was pre-season and a look behind the scenes of a practice and test day. I was given exclusive access and got to hang out inside the large tent the Harley-Davidson race team had set up for this practice week in Arizona. Inside the tent were the actual 2023 Harley-Davidson King Of The Bagger race bikes in all their glory! While inside the tent, I got to really walk around and examine these bikes and all their modifications. Harley-Davidson factory rider Kyle Wyman, who rides the #33 bike, and Travis Wyman, who rides the #10 bike, were present and I got to interview and get to know both of them a bit throughout the day. Travis even took me for some hot laps around the Podium Club Racetrack in a 2022 Ford Mustang for a better look and understanding of this track. See the video below for those interviews. The Podium Club Racetrack is only about a 10-minute drive southwest of Casa Grande, Arizona. It was 32 degrees when we hit the track at around 8:00 am this Wednesday and it only warmed to around 50 degrees. Monday it rained all day, only allowing a few laps for the team late in the day and Tuesday it was extremely windy with very large tumbleweeds blowing across the track, making it too dangerous for laps. The night prior to my arrival at the track, it rained extremely hard, leaving the track with standing water and mud across it in places. It was amazing to see how dedicated the entire Harley race team and riders are to this sport. I watched as the Wyman brothers raced their modified Harley baggers around the track and oh what a sound that is. It's literally music to my ears. If you haven't heard it in person, you really need to get to a race. After laps, the Wymans would bring their bikes either near or into the tent, where the very dedicated race team would make any changes or modifications to the motorcycle itself or hook it up to a computer for tuning or data acquisition. The entire team works together well and each member has their own duties. Also, while I was trackside for the day, Harley-Davidson Manager Of Engineering (Screamin' Eagle) and Race Team Manager, Jason Kehl, told us all about a brand new Harley 135 cubic inch performance crate motor they are releasing for 2023. Understand, that these 2023 Harley-Davidson King Of The Baggers motorcycles were not completely done and the team was still tweaking them the day I was with them. We love our touring bikes, but we've gotten into dirt and adventure riding over the last few years. Oscar has a Kawasaki KLR650 in edition to his Harley-Davidson CVO Ultra. Oscar has been wanting a lighter bike that is more dirt oriented so he can get into places that are difficult to get a KLR650 into. The search for this bike was a long journey. Oscar did a lot of research and ultimately landed on the Husqvarna FE450. Oscar explains why he chose the Husqvarna FE450. If you're looking for a dirtbike, maybe it's the one for you. A lot of the other bikes of the same size were 50 to even 100 pounds heavier. The Yamaha WR450F was a front-runner, but Oscar was unable to find one at a reasonable price. LAB-326-Lurch's First Adventure Motorcycle Rides | Stories and Debacles
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, we talk about Lurch's first adventure motorcycle rides. Dirt riding is new to Lurch. He's played in the dirt with 4-wheelers, ATVs, and 4x4 trucks, but not on a motorcycle. Those of your who follow us know that we have been diving deeper and deeper into the adventure bike world. Oscar and I have had adventure bikes for a few years. Big Daddy Kane has had one for a while as well. After Lurch retired from his law enforcement career he decided to join us. We tell funny stories and talk about crashes. (See one of Lurch's crash videos below) SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE For Lurch's first trip, we took him over Durr Road from Selah, WA to Ellensburg, WA through the LT Murray Wildlife Area. The road is a mix of gravel, rock, and dirt. Oscar and I didn't recall it being technical in some areas, but I guess we forgot a few spots. The Backroad Discovery Route for Washington uses this route. They consider parts of it to be difficult and offer an easier route over Ellensburg Pass. The second trip for lurch was up to the Jump Off Joe lookout tower. It overlooks the Rimrock Lake and Yakima Valleys. Again, I figured this would be an easy ride for Lurch. Unfortunately, I was wrong. A communication tower was being erected near the lookout tower. This meant heavy trucks and equipment were using the road. They turned the road to axle-deep powder dirt in places. Lurch slogged through it fine on the way up. He almost made it out of the powder on the way down, but he crashed near the end of it (see video below). Lurch is a good sport and I appreciate him letting me tease him and use the footage. He was also not happy with the standard manually adjustable rear shocks that Harley has used for many years now on its touring models. WHY LURCH CHOSE 13" SHOCKS: A Harley Street to Road Glide Special comes stock with 12" shocks and you can certainly maintain the 12" when choosing your Progressive Suspension rear shocks from the Law Abiding Biker Store. By installing the 13" Progressive Suspension rear shocks, Lurch raised the rear of his Road Glide Special 1" which gives him more of a lean angle. It's definitely noticeable when riding. You really can't visually tell the bike has been raised 1". Note that Harley models like the Ultra Classic come stock with 13" shocks. The special models come with 12" shocks. LAB-324-HARLEY-DAVIDSON GOES BIG FOR 120TH ANNIVERSARY | 2023 NEW MODELS RELEASED

This included seven anniversary models, two new models, and the return of one model. In this episode, we wrapped up everything we learned and put it into a nice package for you. See our video on the topic! Anniversary Models The first six of the seven total anniversary models share a unique paint scheme described as Heirloom Red with a Midnight Crimson Fade and highlighted powertrain components. These models will have oxblood-colored inserts on the seats. And, the Anniversary models sharing this paint scheme are the Ultra Limited, Tri Glide Ultra, Street Glide Special, Road Glide Special, Fat Boy, and Heritage Classic. Its paint is a bit different and can be described as Anniversary Black and Midnight Crimson fade. And when viewed in the sun there is a red highlight to the black. A subdued eagle split up between the fairing, tank, and bags. Generally speaking, only about 3,000 to 1100 of each anniversary model will be released and they'll all have serialized consoles. This bike will have a very wide rear tire, coming in at 240mm, a 5-gallon gas tank, and a 36-degree front rake, which makes it a long, low, wide, modern cruiser. The Nightster Special is the next new model for 2023. What's so "Special" about this new Nightster? To start, it has a passenger pillion and footpegs to allow two-up riding. The handlebars and risers move the bars up and back for a more commanding rider position. It has a four-inch round TFT display, replacing the analog speedometer and segmented LCD indicators, allowing for BlueTooth connectivity and navigation. The Nightster Special is coming standard with cruise control, USB charging port, and you can add heated grips. This new model is going to be a surprise for some. And for many out there, it is a long time coming. It is the all-new Road Glide 3 Trike. I'm going to say right up front that even if you've never been interested in trikes, this one is sure to turn your head a bit. Many riders have requested a Road Gide trike for years now and it looks like Harley made it happen. A lot of engineering went into making the first Harley trike with a frame-mounted fairing including things like the placement of the fairing to accommodate the long rake and steering dampening of the trike. LAB-322-Upgrading A Harley M8 114 Cubic Inch Engine To A 465 Gear Cam, New Cam Chest, & A New Performance Oil Pump!
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We recently did an S&S 465 gear cam & oil pump upgrade on Popeye's 2019 Harley Street Glide special with the 114 ci Milwaukee Eight engine. We filmed this project in detail over several days. That detailed tutorial video will eventually be released on this YouTube Channel. In this episode, Lurch and I talk about the project and also give our opinions and thoughts on the bike's performance after installation. Is it worth it? After talking with some of our Patron Members in the members-only Law Abiding Biker Facebook Group, Popeye decided to go with the S&S gear drive 465 gear torque cam. We have no affiliation with S&S, but we definitely recommend them. You can get the kit Popeye used HERE. A torque cam offers on-demand throttle response from low to mid RPM at cruising speed. You can go with a chain-driven cam or a gear-driven cam. You need to measure your pinion shaft runout to make sure it's within specifications for a gear-driven cam. The benefit of a gear-driven cam is you eliminate the chain and chain tensioner. We tuned Popeye's bike with the Vance and Hines FP3 and it runs like a raped ape. Tuning was easy with the FP3. We selected the intake, cam, and exhaust for Popeye's bike and flashed it. After flashing the "canned" map, we ran an auto-tune session with really dialed things in. Due to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) findings and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) settlements, the FP3 may soon become a thing of the past. We grabbed up a bunch of FP3s for you guys. LAB-320-Bearing Install Both Front & Rear On A Harley Davidson Touring | DIY & Save Money!
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast, I'm joined by Lurch, and we cover everything you need to know about your Harley-Davidson sealed wheel bearings. We were replacing the rocker cover ad rocker cover housing gaskets on my 2014 Harley Street Glide Special. A step in the replacement procedures required us to rotate the rear tire. We noticed that my rear tire would move side to side and there was an audible "knocking" sound coming from the wheel as we manipulated it side to side. We removed the tire and found that one of the sealed wheel bearings was failing. The rear wheel of model years 2008 to current touring models equipped with ABS require three non-ABS bearings (Harley Part #9276B) and one ABS bearing (Harley Part #9252A). The front wheel requires one non-ABS and one ABS bearing. There is o difference in bearing parts numbers for the front and the rear wheel. Non-touring model rear wheels only require one ABS and one non-ABS bearing. We sell All Balls Racing bearings in the Law Abiding Biker Store. You can shop them HERE. Harley says you should inspect your wheel bearings at every tire change. You do this by inserting a finger into the inner race of the bearing and rotating it in both directions. The bearing should rotate freely and smoothly. If you note any drag, rough rotation, or abnormal noises you should replace them. We installed the Ohlin's FKS 226 Harley NIX 22 Front Cartridge Kiton my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. After riding my Harley with the newly installed Ohlin's front suspension on a 10-day, 4,000-mile road trip, and on many different road surfaces, I can highly recommend this suspension and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's front suspension and how to adjust things so you have the proper preload and proper rebound dampening. We also installed the Ohlins 13" S36 Blackline Rear Shocks on my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. I highly recommend these shocks and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's rear shocks and how to adjust things so you have the proper sag and proper rebound dampening. I was also not happy with the standard manually adjustable rear shocks that Harley has used for many years now on its touring models. WHY I CHOSE 13" SHOCKS: A Harley Street to Road Glide Special comes stock with 12" shocks and you can certainly maintain the 12" when choosing your Ohlin's rear shocks from the Law Abiding Biker Store. However, I ride and corner my Harley hard and am constantly dragging floorboards and supports. By installing the 13" Ohlin's rear shocks, I raised my Street Glide Special 1" which gives me more lean angle. It's definitely noticeable when riding. You really can't visually tell the bike has been raised 1". Note that Harley models like the Ultra Classic come stock with 13" shocks. The special models come with 12" shocks. Is Harley Permanently Closing Its Headquarters Building in Milwaukee and why? Why are so many independently owned dealerships closing their doors or selling? Oh, and what's up with the possibility of a 975 version of the very popular Pan America Adventure bike? Is the long-talked-about Harley Bronx Streetfighter actually going to become a reality? And what's all this mean for the future of the Motor Company? Well, these are all loaded questions and I have a metric ton to throw at you, so let's dive in and see if we can make sense of it all for you! 2023 could prove to be a very exciting year for Harley-Davidson. So, let's start with the question of whether Harley-Davidson is permanently closing the doors to its Milwaukee, Wisconsin Headquarters building, which has served as such since 1973. The answer is "yes", well kind of. You see, Harley-Davidson is letting employees work from home on what may become a permanent basis. Harley's Milwaukee headquarters closed in 2020 due to the global pandemic, but Harley CEO Jochen Zeitz says the complex is going to be repurposed rather than reopened for workers. Neither Harley-Davidson nor the CEO has specified exactly what its 500,000-square-foot complex in Milwaukee will become. Still, the company insists the location will remain an important location for Harley's presence in the U.S. Further, Harley is fully embracing remote work and the flexibility and openness it brings. I do recognize that there are some benefits to remote working, such as fewer distractions, workers may feel less stressed and stay more focused, and of course, remote workers love having flexibility in their schedules if feasible. With that said, I think Harley needs to tread lightly here because a huge part of the motorcycle lifestyle is riding and hanging out with other like-minded bikers. You certainly want your employees to embrace, live, and understand the motorcycle culture. That's hard to do remotely. A ton of bonding, discussions, ideas and a sense of belonging can occur during those in-office in-person hours, and those motorcycle rides to lunch and back. El Diablo Next, let's talk about independently owned dealerships. It's true that some smaller independently owned Harley dealerships are closing their doors. In fact, the Denver Post reported this month that "Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson (RMH-D), the oldest family-owned Harley motorcycle dealership in Colorado, is shutting down at the end of the month". The longtime business, founded in 1979 by owner Kathy Yevoli, who still serves as RMH-D president, has fallen victim to a corporate downsizing strategy, said Marina Yevoli, Kathy's daughter and director of marketing at the Littleton motorcycle dealership. "We are closing, not by our choice," Marina Yevoli said. "To be politically correct, they (Harley-Davidson) are condensing the market and independent dealers do not fit that mold. I think that move could potentially hurt them in the long run. You see, many long-time Harley customers, and newer customers for that matter, have built personal relationships with their independent dealerships and personnel and get treated in a personal way. An independent owner takes great pride in their dealership for the most part. It's more of a family-friendly one-on-one experience that many Harley owners are accustomed to and it very well may be one of the reasons they stick with Harley-Davidson. Don't forget that many of these independent dealerships have become staples of their communities. But, this seems to be the way many industries are going these days like Comoto Holdings, Inc., which owns Revzilla, J&P Cycles, Cycle Gear, and Rever. I guess only time will tell. This is not surprising to me, since Harley's first stab at the adventure market was the Pan America 1250, which quickly claimed the title of the #1 selling Adventure Motorcycle in North America, beating out other long-standing adventure motorcycles like the BMW 1250 GS Adventure. The fuel cap was listed as being compatible with the current Pan America 1250 models as well as two unannounced models; the RA975 and RA975S, which I assume to be new Pan America models which will be powered by the 975cc version of the Revolution Max engine, like the one in the new Nightster. Now, the fact that the smaller Pan America was mentioned on the Harley website, would suggest that they likely planned to include the mid-sized Adventure bike this year but decided against launching them, perhaps due to supply chain constraints. So, my prediction is that the new Pan America 975 will come out at some point in 2023. I will note that Harley-Davidson is expected to announce the bulk of its 2023 models in January. Now, Harley never confirmed they scrapped the Bronx Steegfighter, but they did come out with the Nightster in 2022, which has the Revolution Max 975T engine. Many thought that was the replacement for the Bronx, that it was dead, and would never make it past a concept bike. However, new information has leaked that Harley reapplied for the trademarks for the Bronx Street Fighter name. So, that begs the question, how much longer will Harley dangle that carrot in front of us? Will we finally see a Bronx Steetfighter actually release and hit the streets in 2023? Harley-Davidson (HD) entered into an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on June 23, 2022. This relates to all Harley warranties and if you're a Harley owner this is absolutely must-know information. Introduction: As part of this agreement, HD agreed to the findings that it had violated the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act when it forced warranty-holders to buy only Harley-Davidson branded parts or lose warranty coverage. Let's start by discussing what the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is. The Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act basically prohibits manufacturers from requiring consumers to use only original equipment parts or services to keep their warranty. This means you can service your own motorcycle and use aftermarket parts without automatically voiding your warranty. A second lawsuit was filed in California's Northern District Court. The lawsuits claim owners paid more for genuine HD parts, as compared to aftermarket parts, in fear of their warranties being voided. Requirements Of The Agreement: HD shall not imply or state that: A warranty will or may be void due to you using unauthorized or aftermarket parts or services in connection with your motorcycle. A warranty will or may be void due to you making a modification to your motorcycle without the HD's authorization or approval. As a condition of warranty coverage, or within the Written Warranty, you must use only genuine Harley-Davidson parts or services provided by authorized service providers. However, HD may represent, both in its warranty documents or otherwise, that it will: Exclude warranty coverage for defects or damage caused by unauthorized parts, service, or use of the vehicle, including defects or damage caused by the use of aftermarket parts. Or, use of the vehicle for racing or competition, and denial of coverage may be based on the installation of parts designed for unauthorized uses of the vehicle, such as a trailer hitch. And, consistent with Harley-Davidson's July 2017 Consent Decree with the EPA, exclude warranty coverage and deny all warranty claims for functional defects of powertrain components. And, for any Harley-Davidson motorcycle registered in the United States if the vehicle was tuned using a tuning product not covered by a California Air and Resources Board (CARB) Executive Order or that was otherwise approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). HD must identify all consumers who purchased new or used motorcycles still under warranty and notify them of the FTC agreement and its terms. Further, HD must provide consumers with a complete copy of the warranty at the time of purchase. What Does All This Mean For A Motorcycle Owner? First, I want to let you know that we did a very popular and highly viewed video about Harley Davidson Warranties and issues some time ago and you'll definitely want to watch that video after this one to be well educated and understand the issues in their entirety. So, I mentioned earlier in this article that your warranty cannot be voided if you have your bike serviced at a third-party shop or simply decide to do your own oil changes and services in your own garage, which I highly recommend. You can save yourself a ton of money and have the pure satisfaction of wrenching on your own bike. The next question is; Can a motorcycle manufacturer void your warranty for installing non-OEM aftermarket parts on your motorcycle, such as headers, mufflers, intakes, handlebars, stereos, cams, and even EFI tuner? They can deny any warranty claim if they determine the aftermarket parts you added to your bike caused the damage. Let's start with mufflers as a general example. Let's say you put aftermarket mufflers on your Harley and the transmission goes bad suddenly. I think it'd be fair to say that mufflers did not cause a transmission failure, so you "should" be covered under a warranty. Or, you do an aftermarket stereo install and your engine then has a major failure. I think it'd be fair to say that a stereo install has nothing to do with the engine failure and thus you should be covered under a warranty. Now, let's say you do a cam upgrade and afterward the engine has a catastrophic failure to a push rod. I think it'd be fair to say that the new cam upgrade caused the engine failure and you'd not be covered under a warranty. The real question then is, does simply doing a non-motor upgrade like stereo install or handlebars for example, automatically void your powertrain warranty or overall warranty? No, those upgrades do not affect the powertrain, thus you should not have your warranty voided. The next question is, does simply doing a powertrain upgrade such as a cam upgrade for example, automatically void your powertrain warranty? No, not by itself, however, you must remap your EFI after an upgrade like that and if you were to use a non-EPA compliant tuner, your powertrain warranty will be automatically voided by Harley-Davidson. You see, when Harley dealerships plug your bike into Digital Technician II for diagnostics it auto-detects whether the bike has a tuner, and then it will be determined whether it is EPA compliant. Digital Technician II automatically sends the detected tuner information to the Harley-Davidson mothership so to speak and your power train warranty is voided immediately if it's not compliant. Now, in regards to Harley-Davidson and other motorcycle and auto manufacturers for that matter, the EFI tuner issue is because of pressure and fines from the EPA, who is making them void warranties if non-compliant tuners are utilized. In 2017, Harley entered a consent decree, filed by the United States EPA, that required them to cease the sale of all non-compliant EFI tuners. And, void warranties on those Harley's with non-compliant EFI tuners. And yes, Harley is voiding warranties for non-compliant EFI tuners as are other motorcycle companies and auto manufacturers. What Is An EPA-Compliant EFI Tuner? Well, that's not so clear, but we did some research and digging for you. Currently, we can find no credible list of "EPA compliant tuners". I will mention that of course, Harley-Davidson has a Screamin' Eagle EPA-compliant EFI tuner that will not void your warranty. But, it doesn't do much and we'll talk about that in a moment. So, this begs the overall question, is something like the Vance & Hines FuelPak EFI tuner EPA compliant, and will it void your Harley warranty? Well, we spoke directly to two Vance & Hines technicians today, and here's what we learned. The FuelPak 3 (FP3) is not EPA compliant technically, because it allows you to tune non-EPA compliant engine upgrades such as cams and big bore kits. The FP3 will void your motorcycle warranty. But, Vance & Hines says the FP4 is EPA compliant and will not void your warranty. However, it will only allow you to tune up to a stage one upgrade, which means pipes and intake. It will not allow tuning for cams and big bore kits now or in the future. Act Quickly If You Want A FuelPak 3: We do sell the Vance and Hines FP3 and FP4 in the Law Abiding Biker store. With that said, you need to act very quickly if you want to get your hands on a Vance & Hines Fuelpak 3 for your 2014-2020 Harley before they're gone forever. Many of the large stores are already out of them. For all of you who own 2021 to current Harley's, you can only use the FP4 as it has a different style plug. We have stocked up with FP3's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store for you and they are moving very quickly. It's first come first serve and when they're gone they're gone forever. If you have a 2014-2020 Harley and have ever thought about doing a future cam upgrade or big bore kit you'll need the FP3. In fact, we just did a cam upgrade on a Milwaukee eight and used the FP3 to tune it, and afterward, the bike ran like a raped ape. The FP3 is a very capable tuner with many options and we've used them for years. We will be releasing a full detailed cam install tutorial video on our YouTube Channel, so make sure you're subscribed so you are notified as we release videos. Also, the FP3 allows you to tune your bike right from your smartphone, unlike some other tuners. It is super intuitive and we already have a tutorial video on that. Maybe you just want to do a simple stage 1 upgrade with pipes and intake right now, well you can with the FP3 while also future-proofing yourself in case you want to do more. And of course, if you want an FP4 we have those too in the store and they are plentiful. Also, if you're a California resident, you'll have to get the FP4 regardless. Customers in California can't buy the FP3 and dealers can't sell it to California residents. Now for argument's sake & for a better understanding of how all this works, I'll dive in a bit further. A Further Breakdown: Let's say you do an aftermarket muffler upgrade and have not installed an EFI tuner and your engine then has a failure. And, you take it to a Harley dealership, who decides to say that the mufflers caused it. Well, although the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act is behind you it may or may not help you. You see, in a situation like this, the burden of proof is completely on you as the consumer. You'd have to decide whether the cost is worth it. Because you're the one that will have to find and hire an Attorney that may be willing to file a lawsuit. Now, over the past years, we have had communications with Harley owners and particular dealerships conducting business like this in similar circumstances. I would say our local dealership and the vast majority were not doing this and following the rules. With that said, the FTC agreement included contact info to file a complaint with HD Headquarters and the FTC. You may find a resolution at this first step. Federal Trade Commission Website Harley-Davidson Customer Support Page 1-800-258-2464 What Are Aftermarket Parts Manufacturers & Third-Party Shops Saying: A statement from Vance and Hines CEO Mike Kennedy in an article said, "This action taken by the FTC is a huge win for motorcycle riders. While we still need to see how this plays out, we anticipate that riders will have more choices in how they repair and update their motorcycles during the warranty period, which is clearly a big deal for companies in the motorcycle aftermarket, too. I hope that the 'it will void your warranty threat for someone who just wants a better sounding or smoother running Harley is a thing of the past." What Am I Going To Do? I will simply buy the motorcycle without any extended warranty and ride it hard for a bit on the manufacturer's warranty until I'm comfortable that the bike is going to hold up. Then, I'll immediately put any damn parts and tuners I want on it and ride it like I stole it. You decide what you're going to do and let me know in the comments, Harley-Davidson reps do read them and so do we. LAB-310-Replacing A Harley Davidson Rocker Cover & Housing Gaskets | Twin Cam Evolution Engines
Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we discuss how to replace Harley Davidson Twin Cam engine rocker cover and rocket cover housing gaskets. One of the gaskets on the front jug of my 2014 Street Glide Special has had a small leak for years. It wasn't much, but it was noticeable. We finally got caught up on other projects and it was time to do some work on my bike. Now, if your leak is like mine it can be extremely difficult to determine which of the two gaskets was the culprit. I figured I would just replace them both while the bike was torn down.
