Including recent school shootings. We come to a decision that being circumsized / or not being circumsized does nothing to prevent HIV/STD's.  Then Smitty launches into a long, uncensored tirade about Campaign Finance reform and how it will be the downfall of the country.  So sit back, relax, and plus the Salt City Throwdown into your earholes. Better know a Candidate: Steve Nelson (Salt Lake County D.A.) Edition

Episode 39 of the Salt City Throwdown is here! Continuing to bring our listeners the best there is to offer in rare, long form interviews of those who are running for office we bring you another episode of "Better Know a Candidate" where you can listen in on a conversation about the campaigns that are occuring in this cycle. Episode 37 we had incumbent first term Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. (D) in this episode we bring you his opponent, Dr. Steve Nelson (Yes. He really does have a PhD, we checked.) who similarly to our previous guest Charles Stormont, is running from within his own office.  Steve, is more than just a an assistant prosecuting attorney. He has had many articles published, he teaches multiple courses at the University of Utah in the Political Science department, and he is also running to take his bosses job.  We talk about a myriad of issues like  * Why did he decide to run * What it was like to be examining a witness in a RICO case when the defendant decides to rush the stand and ends up being shot - in the first trial in the new Salt Lake County courthouse.  * Differences in how he would run the District Attorney's office.  * What makes him qualified  Oh. And the question everyone wants to know. How did he end up becoming the expert on the "Juggalo" gang in Utah? So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode of "What is a Juggalo" eeerrr "Better know a Candidate: Steve Nelson (Salt Lake County D.A.) Edition. "

But First; Lemme Take this Selfie. #Justice

Welcome to Episode 38 of the Salt City Throwdown Podcast. In this episode, we debut our new Theme Song... Let us know what you think. Also, we have fixed our issues with the Microphone. So the sound quality is much better than it was on the previous episode.  In the first episode of the week. We breakdown the recent polling by our previous guest Doug Owens who is running against Mia "125 days to decline an interview" Love, and is there any path to victory in the Utah 4th for Owen's and his new out of state Campaign manager who was brought into replace Emily Bingham the veritable Democratic force. And we talk about how his campaign isn't trying to win. (And Smitty wants his money back.) Then we talk about the Utah Teacher who was fired for his blog post on "Homophones"  being too risque for our sensibilities in Utah. Forget that "Homo" means "Same". A Social Media specialist was fired after he posted a blog about homophones being a signal for gay sex, and he was afraid that it would ruin the reputation of the LANGUAGE school. Then we talk about the police department in New York state who wanted to know if the word "Negro" was "Offensive" because their inmate booking system was classifying african americans in custody as "Negro" so we talk about if the word is in fact offensive. (This is also about the time Smitty finds the Samuel L. Jackson sound board and doesn't talk for a good five minutes while Sam Jackson joins us via random drops.) In other news,  Apparently the Satanic Temple of Faith wants their own version of a Hobby Lobby religious exemption... to opt out of State level abortion bans. Using an argument of Liberty and self autonomy.  We talk about a Deseret News article that advocates for violating the constitution, and making an argument as to why religion in School's is a good idea. (albeit unconstiutional) Then, what kind of episode of the Salt City Throwdown would it be if we didn't talk about Mark Shurtleff and John Swallow.  Last Wednesday, marked the first appearance of former Attorneys General Mark Shurtleff and John Swallow in a court room.  Right before he came into court, he posted a selife with his daughter with a sign #Justice. Imagine the Photoshop hilarity that insued. Then We close out the show, reminding our all of our listeners that we will be at Comic-Con Salt Lake City as press.  So do your earholes a favor, sit back and relax, and fill your hearholes with the glorious sounds of the Salt City Throwdown and the love between two hosts.

Better know a candidate: Sim Gill (Salt Lake County DA) Edition

Sim Gill is a pretty popular guy. He has been in the media a lot latley. From investigating issues in the West Valley City Police Department, to investigating two of our Former Attorneys General on some serious campaign finance, and public trust issues. But there is more to Sim Gill than what you see in the media. He is a guy who has some prolific thoughts in his writing, and some big ideas when it comes to reforming the justice system in Utah.  In this episode we talk about his background, running for District Attorney for a second term, his branding, and how he ended up having the views he does when it comes to justice and how he runs his office.  We also find out what his future plans are - especially the big question of "Will he serve a full second term" or "Red Iguana vs. Bombay House"  The answers to this might suprise you.  So sit back and relax and enjoy the Salt City Throwdown Podcast brought to you by Salt Lake Comic Con.  (Note: There were some abnormalites in the recording of this episode, so this episode might sound a bit different. We have tried to fix it as much as possible, but there are still some clicks (like Adam the Keyboard Basher).

Salt City Throwdown EP 036 - His old lady isn't what we thought she was..

Welcome to Episode 36 of the Salt City Throwdown Podcast.    We are getting closer to our Birthday Episode in September which will mark one year since we started paddling this pirate canoe.    We had some pressing tasks this week, so because we are late we have a special two-fer. (Your iTunes feed will just download both Episodes)    This week we welcome special guest host Tyler Riggs. A Podcaster himself, and a former journalist, he joins us for the entire episode to discuss everything we talk about including something happening with Gay Marriage and the 10th District Court of Appeals, and Utah appealing to SCOTUS to complain that since the Staff Attorneys in the Attorney General's office can't seem to do their job right.   Then we talk about a rough week for an American Fork man, who's girlfriend turned out to be a real bitch. and by bitch, we mean "Dog"   We also talk about the local dog shooting and the movement to bring Justice to Geist a dog shot by the Salt Lake City Police Department.    We bring back a couple stories from "Why we're glad we don't live in Idaho"     So sit back, relax, and plug this episode into your ear holes and enjoy.

...And Equality for All.

It was a busy week. Everything was going along swimmingly until The 10th Circuit Court of appeals dropped the mic and re-affrmed what we and almost everyone else knows. Gay Marriage is the right thing to do, it is fair, and there is no basis to ban it.  That would have been cool, but they dropped it in the middle of Charles Stormont making his campaign kickoff.  Then we spend an hour talking to Kate Kelly. Kate is the founder of the Ordain Women movement who earlier in the week was ex-communicated because she asked the wrong questions. We talk about the decision, her reaction, why she didn't attend the meeting via "Secure Video Conference" and the future of the Ordain Women Movement.  Then we close it out with a long rant about participating in the process. Because if you don't participate in elections and the political process, not only are you missing out, but you lose your ability to complain.  So, Sit back, relax, and if you happen to work for the Utah Attorney General's office, give this a listen, it will make you feel better about not filing the appeal for Gay Marriage recognition corectly.

Better Know a Candidate: Doug Owens (Utah 4th District) Edition

On this episode of the Salt City Throwdown Podcast, we sit down with Candidate Doug Owens, who is running to replace Representative Jim Matheson (R-UT04) who in December decided not to run again. He comes up against favored, and nationally backed contender Mia Love, who even though she has been running for three years, is still running with her hard turn to the right to appeal to the base.    We talk about his campaign, how he decided to run, his father who was a four term representative from UTah, and other topics that are important to this crucial race. And also, some questions just to get to know Mr. Owens better. (He likes Red Iguana better than Cafê Rio)   So sit back, relax, and lets get to better know a candidate on this episode of the Salt City Throwdown Podcast.    (Note: There is no break in this episode due to the fact that we originally thought this interview would be 30 minutes, but we had so much fun we lost track of time)

(Without being warned.) We talk about the #YesAllWomen HashTag and How Smitty got in trouble with it.  Then we move on to the scandal from Wasatch County regarding the touching up of selected pictures of women. Better know a Utah Candidate: Andrew McCullough edition.

Fresh off the Democratic and Republican conventions in Salt Lake County we decided to bring on a Libertarian  (Because they seem to answer emails and phone calls). We talk to Andrew about his platform, his background as a civil rights defense lawyer for the most unlikely clients (but believable when you hear who they are). It was a great conversation, and it was fun to get a different point of view.

Entitled To Life: Exploring Utah's case for medicaid expansion

This week we talk to film maker Paul Gibbs about his new Documentary "Entitled to Life". A documentary that highlights the need for Utah to work towards full medicaid expansion. Paul talks about his experience(s), why this issue is important, and what the term "Medicaid Expansion" actually means to the citizens of Utah.   Too many people think that Medicaid is about paying the bills of people too "lazy" to work and take care of themselves. Paul explains in this important episode why they are wrong.    Check out Entitled To Life

Ex-Mormon Lawsuits and Abortion Clinics

Episode 23 of the Salt City Throwdown Podcast.  We open the show talking about Adam Carolla's lawsuit vs. Internet Patent Trolls. We have links on the website for where to donate to his cause.  Then we break into the new topics:  An Ex-Mormon Bishop has filed, and lost a lawsuit against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints based on UK law against knowingly making fradulent statements. The Judge said he didn't want to put a religion on trial, and dismissed the case.  Bored? Need a gift? Why not give a recurring 10$ per month donation to a Washington D.C. Abortion fund. And you can have a sterling silver coat hanger necklace. You heard right! Nothing says class, and pinache like a coat hanger necklace.  Why we're glad we don't live in Idaho makes a comeback. Including the couple who used to work at Wal-Mart who stole a laptop, FROM WAL-MART.  The Show just goes down hill from there.  Check it out.
