Don't forget your thought all right. I know as we age we all tend to forget what we're gonna say. That's happening to me more
I'm not saying you're old. I'm just saying even I was gonna say personally you start forgetting things and it's a little scary
It is 100%
you know and when you have
Been knocked out for 24 hours in your life
You know because of accidents and stuff like that. Yeah, you start to think about that stuff
I'll tell you what I thought Justin Gates. He was gonna knock himself out after doing that backflip
Yeah, that that second one wasn't as clean dude
That wasn't you know, but what a performance
I know you talked about it on Python polishing the number one automotive
Enthusiasts related podcast if you guys want to listen to pints and polishing and you and I actually talked earlier in the week
So we don't have to go through it again
But I actually forgot to mention that when we watched it wife my wife and I it was great event obviously right you loved it
I loved it anybody that watched it knows it was a good event when he goes up to the case because I knew he was gonna do it
I'm in the house yelling like no don't you just went through a war
There's no way you're gonna land this and he lands the first one and then I guess you know
Just so much enthusiasm tries to go for a second one
I was like, oh, we almost saw a Brock Lesnar event there. We just yeah, there's his neck. Let's do one of these though
Padeida, you know, whatever you want to call that guy. Oh my god, that's a clip. I'm gonna start running that in the loop
It's it's funny. Pereira Padeida
Let me tell you what we're not doing. What are we not doing? Don't don't say you lost because of some random shots
I don't know you saw that a goose egg on the back of his head though. Come on. Is that from where he fell here's a money
You've been around us a long time
You got beat up dude. You got beat up. Nobody expected me to get beat up
I know you might say you did but I didn't expect me to get beat up. You know, I got it on this podcast
I said you can't stand with them. Do not stand with them. You have the blueprint the blueprint is what John Jones did
He's too athletic
To cry about shots when you suddenly make 251
It was pretty funny seeing Herb Dean do well
I don't know if there were old videos that just resurfaced
But I saw a ton of Herb Dean doing like behind the head where where the location is and where it's not well people don't realize
It's a tiny strip. Yeah, literally like a mohawk strip. Yeah, it's a mohawk strip like a chocolate mohawk. Yeah, this was not
To me that it was a bad performance and
To go on this tour
That that's not a good look. I don't think anybody inside the UFC building is gonna see it as a good look
I don't think most fans should see it as a good look
You know when you're in a finishing sequence, which I I you know
Don't think people realize a lot of things are forgiven by referees also a lot of things aren't seen during a finishing
Yeah type of moment
This is all talked about if you've been around the sport, right like a lot of haymakers have
Magically hit that strip during a finishing sequence, right?
So I think it's a bad look especially for a guy that says he goes quiet after every fight
Goes into a dark room
Meditates so that only happens when you win
Seems like it
Yeah
You know look man
85 and 205 or a whole different animal than heavyweight it. There's a reason there's weight classes the suspicion of him making
251 on the scale
Would be a bigger concern than the mohawk strip in my opinion
But as we look at this he's had a great career and I said I text you that night
Also, a lot of people don't realize man
You don't know when you're on the downside till you till you're there. Yeah, and as fluid and things as he looked
This could be the moment that you say this was the start of a slide
It also could be the moment he goes look 205 is my limit. I need to go back there. I need to kind of reassert myself
Yeah, what he needs to do now is just go back down and regain two belts again and then be like see I'm still that guy
I'm just gonna stay yeah, but you're talking to me. I mean 38. Yeah, that's not young
I mean and you said a whole kickboxing career. I know an intent. I mean like this is a lot of this
Lot of blows man
I mean, so you just don't know you're on the downside to you're on the downside and obviously we had the double champ starting to speak as a
godly man this week
So it was an exciting week for all of us combat sports fans. Yeah, no, it was great, man
Well, that was a little sports corner at the top of the show. So we'll get into other parts of you half you guys
No, that's it that's that true, but I will say
You know, we got to say because even though we've been doing it for a year and a half
We're halfway through 2026 we still get a lot of very nice comments and
In what not on especially on YouTube
So shout out to all of you guys that are new to the show saying that the show is under the radar
They're glad they're in early all those those nice, you know gestures. They're not forgot told you
It's like being in on nirvana early exactly and then I said Pearl Jim to which Nick did not agree with but that's again
For a separate topic. No, no, we're not I'll I'll take nirvana
Which by the way, those of you that send us good comments and emails
We'll actually start with a listener email clutch culture podcast at gmail.com if you want to drop us a line
Trace said been listening to the podcast heard you got an LX. What year? What do you recommend if I'm buying?
2003 I bought it. What did it have on it 129? I think so but right at that. Yeah 129 when I bought it
first thing you got to look for is
You know frame rust rust at all
You know Toyota has
Again for a brand that so many of you think has had no problems
They have frames that just completely rust out
There's the LX the the 100 series line crews are susceptible to that
I think you want to look at service records
You got to dive deep in because you're talking about 20 plus year old vehicles
You want to see some signs of oil changes and fluid changes and things like that
With the LX in particular you need to understand does it still have the
The AAC which is the height control
You know globe system, you know adjustable height control which yours didn't right mine mine was already taken out and put on
100 series
You know system, but I would say this I mean
Understand if it does have it has it been maintained is it specifically talked about being maintained
Because if it's not you're either looking at a
Lot of work to get it working right or you're going to have to do the conversion
None of that if it's the right price none of that is like, you know walk away from yeah, but it all comes down to price and
There are a lot of people that will advocate buying the higher mileage 100 series because you're gonna get a better deal
That's great. If you have all these records or if you want a project
Yeah, if you want a project
But if you don't have all these records and you go for one that has 225,000 miles on it
You could be in for an expensive day. I mean because
Just got my LX for all of you that listened last week
Had a a bolt come off the caliper
You know, I took responsibility because that all should have been stripped the day that I bought it
I just the brakes were fine. You know, they there was a lot of pad left and all that kind of stuff, but
Did did rotors and brakes all the way around?
Did every single fluid I did the transmission fluid the day that I got it plus all the oil changes I've done already
But I did everything. I mean from driveshaft to
Transfer case to front diff to rear diff
did a
Flush of the coolant system fuel filters every filter in the thing, you know, you're looking at a
22,000 to $2,500 a day, I mean 2200 or 20,000 you imagine
Yeah, yeah, 2200 2200 sorry
2000 to $2,500 a day
To get everything done and I know some of you can do that yourself
But still I mean you're still into it a reasonable cost to still get everything. Yeah, right?
Just parts whatever did the heater teas and all that kind of stuff
It's just one of these things
When you're in these platforms
one of the things I
Think that probably gets frustrating to you and I is just remember
3% of cars on the road, which includes new cars in this 3%
Have been taken care of in an excellent way
And we actually see this in comments guys where people go I bought this and I got 350,000 miles
And all I've done is put gas and oil in it
Well, that guy's gonna be on Facebook marketplace telling you he took great care of the car
And I got news for you. If that's all you've done in 300,000 miles
You don't have an excellently maintained vehicle. We have a ticking time bomb ready to blow your wallet out
Which means you've done none of the belts you've done none of the pulleys you've done none of the the fluid exchanges
You've done none of that because your comment says you put oil and gas in the vehicle
Right, but to that person they think that's a plus. Yeah, it's not a plus
what you're going to see a lot when you're in these hundred series and and I can tell you people talk about the
Transmission sounding clunky putting in park putting in and drive you could almost rest assured somebody has not been changing that transmission fluid on time
You know as a matter of fact if you guys are looking for a project
I don't know if it's still there
But you know the more we talk about marketplace the more it just randomly seems to pop up from time to time on my phone
Which I'm trying to avoid. not yeah put it up
But there's one with a 400 I think four or 500,000 miles for like 12 grand. It's an O2
So if you guys want a project, it's insane and I would say you need to get that for about three or 4000 dollars
I saw the price. I was like, oh, and then that's all the miles is like oh
Yeah, I actually had somebody reach out or was in a comment say that he bought a 2019
Forerunner Tacoma and put 40,000 in mods
I was like bud you could have just bought a 200 series Land Cruiser rather
I saw that and I actually actually screenshot it as I could bring it up on the show. What are the odds? Yeah, no, it's
guys
And he called it an investment and shout out to you sir if you listen into the show, but yeah, it's cool
Let's choose our words. Yeah, appropriately if you did
If you did all that if all that's true, I think you could have been in a better platform
No other way to say it
And then if you decided to sell it there's no way you're gonna look at what you get and say it held its value
Well at that point doesn't matter actually one thing we've said a lot on this podcast
I know other people say it but do not expect
Your modifications to be repaid when you sell your vehicle and most cases
It's actually looked at as a negative in the in the aftermarket
I'm starting to think that we're actually kind of convincing more people that
And we actually had some OEM plus type comments and we do from time to time more and more now where and maybe it's just people aging along with
Us that are saying yeah like OEM plus or I'm taking stuff off and putting on the original stuff when I sell it because people do tend
Like that. Yeah, I don't know if more people are just realizing that or it's just become more commonplace where even in the
You know
Concentrators to do that kind of dealership stuff or buying sell stuff. They'll always ask you got the original whatever even from wheels to airboxes
To whatever do you have it? Yep. Cool. I'll give you more money for it. Yeah. I think also
If you've ever
Really either owned or been around a lot of heavily modified whatever name the thing
You also realize how bad of an experience a lot of that is yeah, and if somebody loves it, and that's their vehicle
That's a whole different story, but when you're in the I'm buying something for myself, and you've done it enough you realize
I'm gonna have to tear all these modifications off. I'm gonna have to reset this whole thing
I'm gonna have to then modify it my way if that's the choices I make but we are seeing a lot of people
I know the guy that you and I watch you know Vinnie who I think is probably one of the best youtubers
He's talking about this a lot
You know, he's talking about this a lot like how he is really leaning into OEM plus and
Is it age? I think it's easy to say that it's also experience
You know
It's not just age because if you experience enough modifications and enough different platforms
Yeah, most of them just aren't that good. Yeah experience and I was gonna say expense
I think the expense is adding up quicker than ever for those that are also trying to do stuff with their cars on the internet
Yeah
And you're also worried. Where did this person get this XYZ part? Yeah
You know, did they really?
Go to this high-end or did they get the knockoff?
playing the high-end off Timu or overseas supplier or whatever
so I think there's just a lot of worry angst in the market and
A lot of it's just not better. It doesn't make it driving better
There's some that you know, we talk about mark for Supra a lot
Look, there's some vehicles you have to do some modifications to make the thing interesting, right to make it better
How it should have been but if you go past in a lot of cases, it's not better
So you do have to modify
I think the mark for Supra and vehicles like that to get them where you want them to be
Where they should have been maybe out of the box in your mind quote unquote. Yeah, but
Look man, there's there's a lot of people that go too far and then once you go too far and you experience that you go
I don't really like this
So we got some stuff in the news from from Chevy, which I'm sure you haven't seen and Mazda which I'm sure you haven't seen
Which will make this funnier
But I had a question actually wanted to tee up for you at the top of the show and you've said this a lot over the last year and a
Half so I just want to see where you lie now in the middle of 2026
Do you think that manufacturers are essentially going to win?
Win the day in the long run where they're going to beat us down with the tech
They choose to use whether it's haptics and screens and screen sizes and the whole thing
Or do you think the consumer might actually make up some ground and we'll revert back or even maybe have like a 50-50 split
We kind of go back just somewhat. Where do you still lie today?
Just curious seems like they're going all in on tech
I mean you have I mean Ford and GM in particular basically saying there's so much tech in our car
You can't repair it right right so it doesn't it doesn't seem like though
I mean doesn't seem like any of the big brands are going backwards
And I think I've been asked a lot of questions on this right to repair stuff that's going on. I'm sure you have too
We've seen it emails and DMs and personally as well
And I kind of look at this as a conversation that needs to be a little bit more broad
because
There's no doubt that there's a point
That Jim Farley has here, which I think he is being honest about he's like, you know
Are you gonna have the $7,000 scan tool?
Mm-hmm necessary to look and you know recalibrate the system after replacing a part or
You know, have you seen the nightmares people are going through at the Ford dealership GM dealerships?
Where they have a camera malfunction on the front of the car. Mm-hmm the warranty
Covers replacement of the camera
So they go in
They click the camera into place they don't run the recalibration and it's useless
Okay, now the camera is like pointing up to the moon and
They're arguing with the Ford dealer and Ford dealer goes the warranty says we just have to click the camera back in
Yeah, so does Jim Farley have a point to an extent but also
Already we're seeing with all these ADS systems and whatever that even the warranty work
isn't
Specifying the recalibration at times. So
They've gone so far. I
Don't know how they would back out of it. Mm-hmm
You know because that would probably equal a lot of loss
So I don't think they're gonna back out of it. And I also think the right to repair thing is a lot more
Serious than people realize because I think they're admitting publicly. I don't like the way they're going about it
So I don't want anybody to misunderstand. Mm-hmm, but what I think they're saying is you can't replace these cameras
Because you don't have the tools to actually replace the camera properly
Yeah, the tools and then they do lean on the proprietary know-how like you can be maybe you can understand the process
But to actually have it done properly
They're almost saying like you cannot have the skill set unless you are one of our you know employees or one of our facilities
I don't like all of the to me. It feels like
And I'm sure it's a lot of you it feels like a real strong arm type thing to do. Yeah for sure, you know, I think that's
That's the part of this you go again guys
We've talked about these CEOs speaking out and speaking out of turn so often. Yeah, they're they didn't think through
How to explain to people like what I just said hey you we can sell you the camera part
Okay, or you know, whatever you're talking about here. We're just happy to get on this
We can sell you the camera, but you got to have this
calibration system
to actually calibrate
Everything back together because once you remove that original camera you got to recalibrate it to the whole system that it's integrated with
Well, you know, you're not gonna do that in an O'Reilly's parking lot
You know what I mean? You're not gonna do it in your garage. You got to have the tool now
Not you brother. Maybe the thing going against them is
Even at the Ford dealership. They're screwing it up. Yeah
Right because they're not going through the calibration because they don't want to pay the tech
They don't want to pay the dealership to actually do all this properly
So it actually goes against them not doing all of the stuff in a camera replacement
And so now you get to this whole we're speaking out of turn again
And so I just think it's getting to a point. I
Don't think it goes backwards. I
Don't see how it does you you had a we posted a clip a couple days ago and so many commented
What was it about? It's like it's escaping me
It was the oh the if you stopped if Americans didn't buy cars for like a month
You would collapse the entire thing right people are complaining about price and one of the comments was probably the most honest comment
Where they were just like, you know what I never thought of it like that. He is absolutely right
And it sounds silly because we talk about it all the time and we get questions and you guys are I'm sure having conversations in your own
Household, but the price of things are pretty extreme especially for new cars or cars in general
But if you did as a collective, you know say to your neighbors or your neighborhood or whatever like hey
When you look at a bonnet car, let's hold off about 70 70 days in 90 days
And let's not all plan to do it at the same time or whatever
But there is a shift that could happen if the consumer really wanted to and real quick on the camera stuff
Have you ever had a camera save you in a situation or like one of those safety features that you're one of your
One of the vehicles that you're driving or your family car. I can't
The only time that the safety stuff really sticks out to me is the bad shit. So it's not really fair
You know like I tell people like that there
You know, I've had it on a Lexus. We've talked about the escalated the old system where
You'd be backing up and it would make you feel like you wrecked into something
You'd be 40 feet away from anything. Yeah, you cat like as examples. It's usually bad though
They're not the best the old ones, you know, but I
Mean, I think the backup camera has been incredibly useful, you know
I mean if we're all being can I do without it? Sure
I have you know, I have a car currently that doesn't have a backup camera
My LX when I got it didn't have a backup camera
But boy, did you love it when you got it though when I got it. It's helpful. I mean some of this stuff that
Everybody rails against because it it makes you sound like more of an enthusiast
We also have to be up front like a backup camera is a nice feature
Do I think you need much more than a backup camera? I think that's where the conversation starts like if you can't use
You know looking over your shoulder and the backup camera or one or the other to back your car up responsibly
Okay, man, maybe they shouldn't have a license. I mean, can we get into that?
Topic, yeah, we can get into that topic
But there are stuff that I mean, I don't really like I don't enjoy lane assist
I think it's really heavy-handed at times. It's manufacturer to manufacturer, but it can get really heavy-handed
What about emergency braking?
And I say this because I've had one just one instance where I can be like that may have just paid off having in the GTI
Yeah, and I think there's a defense of that, right like
No question
I'm not so anti this stuff. I think I'm just more realistic about it
Yeah, you know, there's a lot of people that give very anti everything. Yeah, I don't really think that's the place to be
Because what I think yeah, or cynics. Yeah for sure. Well, there's a lot of cynics out there for sure
But you know, I will say like yeah, there's I mean emergency braking probably has helped me a time or two
I mean, there's probably no doubt about that, you know
But the backup camera has been a good good additive. There's no there's no arguing that, you know
and some backup cameras are better than others and we can have that discussion if you wanted to but
There are things that have just gone so far that I go this isn't this really isn't helping
I mean, you've had lane assist and you you and I talked about on it and everybody out there if you've experienced it
Where you're getting over on it on a two or three lane road
Where nobody's around and the cars freaking out and pulling you back into the lane and you're like, whoa
Whoa, this could have caused a wreck
I was gonna say dude the irony is that the one time that it paid off
There was three other times where it prematurely or just completely
Unexpectedly emergency brake and it didn't need to like that could have so again three to one
I could have probably taken my odds on just stopping it myself to not have the other three
Incidences almost other times it rattles you hundred percent. Oh, yeah
I mean you go. Whoa. Whoa. Yeah, and you like you you wonder like did a dog run out in front now?
No, there's nothing there. Nothing. There was nothing there. Yeah, so I think
it's even
I'm not so
Anti the understanding that full self-driving is getting better either
Right like there's no doubt that stuff is getting better. It's not something I care about
It's not something that I'm like clamoring for I don't like how it's all been rolled out over the years and us being the beta testers
For a bunch of stuff that doesn't work correctly all down that hill too
You made a very good point early on in the show
We did not agree like the way you phrase it about not agreeing to be beta testers
I think was fantastic and it's only gotten they've only snowballed what we're at being beta tested into since then
I mean you gotta you gotta realize man. We got this zooks. zooks stuff here in Vegas
I'm sure some of you other people where you live have it
Rob, you'll see like 56 of these like a swarm just driving around, you know
There's nobody in them. Have you seen them trying to park at the end of like their shifts?
No, I haven't it becomes a nightmare. It Yeah. Yeah worries you. Yeah worries you
Yeah, so that's what I mean though is I think I want to have a broad perspective on a lot of this technology stuff
And I can say with all of you I
Daily drive a 23 year old vehicle, so it's not like I'm bought in on any of this
Yeah, and now I wasn't even gonna bring it up because I actually didn't bring the article up
But you mentioning the full self-driving there was some couple of snippets on how I don't know who
Figured out a fool the full self-driving, but now they're using like dolls
Which I thought was an old thing people were using dolls heads to like make sure you know what I mean
Yeah, exactly that same reaction I had
So now they're like they found a new way to use doll heads of sorts or whatever mannequins to fool the full self-driving
At that point just get somebody to drive you
Get a chauffeur you peasant
Who's the aristocrat no in this case I am
Yeah, I don't so I I think I'm kind of in the middle where I just go there's definitely been I mean we can all
If you guys don't have never researched it
I mean like what's gone on with the crumple zones and the way people walk away from accidents now
If you say technology has no place you're not really looking like
There are deadly accidents that would have been deadly 15 years ago that like people just get out on the freeway and they're fine
Yeah, we'll see videos every other video is a video of a crash somebody flying out of a car or getting hit in the car
this or that and you and so it's
There's been good technology
But I think this right to repair thing is going to open up a can of worms
It all just depends on how the government pushes back
If you think the people are going to have a say if the government and
Representatives don't push a bat don't push back against all this technology. I
Think it's going forward as far as they want to take it. Yeah
Yeah, the can of worms is already open and the Americans are going to open a can of whoopers
If they don't take it easy
So I want to pull up a picture of the new Silverado. Have you seen the new Silverado? I saw so I saw a random picture of it
Okay, I've too deep into it
So here's just some exterior shots of different Silverado bottles are doubling down. We talked about the v8s
When we started the show they actually had done like a motor trend themselves a little short on the v8 and you know
America's engine and the whole thing we knew that GM was coming out with two new v8s
But that's not really what I wanted to show you. I wanted to show you the interior of this. Okay
Um, which is why I asked you what you thought about the direction
Look
At the can you guess the size of this just by looking at it?
Is it like 20? It is 16.3
Man that's my first tv was 12 and a half inches
I'm dead serious
Yeah, I probably wasn't that far off with myself
I got a question. Yeah, but they do have looks like they have the ac and heating controls big plus
I mean looks good. It does look good. Yeah wider arches. Yeah, it looks good. looks really good
It it does look
I mean to their credit it does look like a Chevy on the interior. Yeah in a good way. It's all integrated in a good way
Yeah, I mean they kept that how long have they had this center console?
Uh, buddy, this is has got to go back to 1950. They've had this same center console
You know I'm talking about like it was it works. Yeah. No, it does. Uh, it does
I'll give them a credit on the screen
It looks somewhat integrated. Yeah
Somewhat it's not sticking out
All high where you lose, you know 25 of the windshield visibility. Right
my question
The
How does all of this age
Not well if I had to immediately just say off the top of my head
Yeah, because we we we know that tech kind of age is the worst, right?
So and also is this the first platform that they're saying will not have apple carplay?
Oh that I didn't see because they had talked about that right
I didn't even read into that part
Because it looked like it had a carplay on that display. Yeah, it did
So it looks like they're gonna stick around with it if so they've really quietly just kind of backed out of that
Yeah, Mary Mary borough was like, yeah, maybe I should have said that
Yeah, I made too big of a fuss about it for being honest
Which by the way the interior screen is 12.2. So your digital cluster is 12.2. And then you have a 16.3
So you got 28 29 inches of just screen, but then above the I don't know if you saw there's a third one above the glove box as well
We'll pull it back up. I didn't see that. Okay. It will actually the first one. I showed you didn't have it
But let me pull the second one
Um, and of course it's gonna go from model to model which we've seen some cars
Whoops that do this. Um, so let's see that one has this was probably like a high country
That has it over here
Wow
So I want is it is it just one screen?
Are they gonna have a separator a separator that because it looks like it's kind of angled towards the driver
I was just gonna say you said it's integrated and it is to an extent, but it drops off
So it goes down to where the glove box is so it's not that's horrible. I know it's it's it's not high
But it's definitely not even yeah, no, no, that's that's we're gonna vote no against that and and they go
You know the Corvette we really love that staring at the screen right in our face
So we're gonna go ahead and do that in our Silverado
It's like you got the brake pedals sticking up more and you got the gas pedal over here under the glove box
That's that's how it's uneven. It's it's silly like what do we do it? Yeah, no
I
Think the same thing is gonna happen with in the truck market
I'm not big on the new truck market as as a purchaser, but I would ask this question
I mean, isn't this all gonna come down to how dependable this truck is
Yeah
I mean we can talk about all the tech and all the cool stuff and all the the bells and whistles isn't that really still
The Ford and and and GM reality is are you building a reliable truck?
And I think a lot of people rightfully
Have a lot of questions about those two brands
And the reliability of their modern truck and and they started from a good place because it's a 5.7
So bringing back the 350 most people had a 5.7 in their GM way back in the day 90s early 2000s
That one and then the 6.6 replaces the outgoing
I think 6.2 which had a ton of the issues and 5.3. I think so what they say
We're just not worried about the fixing the 6 2 because it can't be fixed
What wouldn't you at that point? It was such a debacle
It's been a debacle. There's no question. It's been a and quietly
Just not talked about yeah, it disappeared from stop sale and big issue to like nobody say a word
Well, here's the crazy part
Is it everybody's sharing their stuff basically failing all over social media chevrolet nowhere to be found
They're not even commenting on it
No, they're not even going out to that guy that somehow got a free ctsv or the the Cadillac v
When he game the app systems like nope, let it go. Let it go. Yeah. Yeah, they they seem to have a very
Quiet down type of mentality right now
Well, it's the best thing they can do when you start with bad engines and then move into
worse
Ui with your own apps and your own is just like you're not doing yourself any favors like well
Let's hope they stick with apple carplay not because I care about apple carplay all that much but it works
Why try to have your own system at this point when you have so many other issues like you said they're dealing with
I wouldn't be surprised though if this comes out and you buy it and you think there's apple carplay and there just isn't
I mean I you you could see that doesn't matter what brand you could just see them going
Well, yeah, we just don't put them on these anymore
Imagine in the use market too
What it does when you have a car that it's used and it doesn't have carplay
I think that it dings it significantly more
Well, I think it would ding it because what if you start to have malfunctions and it's out of warranty
Yeah, exactly. I mean that that shit gets expensive fast and then you're just gonna we we've dealt with some real
Electronic issues on different brands and let me tell you if they're out of warranty boy, does that add up fast?
Well, would any of those electronics happen to be on maserades?
Well, I mean
Come on. Yeah, you could just I mean you could throw that dart at any time. Yes. I mean, of course maserati
Range Rover we've dealt with it on fords and Chevy's
Oh, here we go
Did you see the new that so the new reveal of the the new style update to the maserati the electric Gran Turismo?
You gotta you have to admit that looks good. I think it looks right
I was that was not going to roast it by any you know what you should have said what right off the rip looks like a nice
Imagine it imagine a Ferrari actually
What a design there are electric like that dude wait till we get to the Ferrari story. You're gonna. Oh, it's so good
I hope it's not the gray one that they're like. I think it looks better in the gray
It is but that's not why so it's I'm glad you already know the car
But no it'll be right after this right after these messages from hyper clean store.com
Get your american made car care at hyper clean store.com. All right back to the show
So these two there's the Gran Turismo and then there's another one that's not in this particular article
But look dude. It's starting at $57,000 less than last year's model
Yeah, I need to start about 157 less so instead of one or instead of 200. It's around 140 is where these are gonna start
And in what universe would you trust maserati and a new platform? Oh, no, no, I mean
I wouldn't trust the old ones. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I mean, sorry. It looks fantastic though
But but you gotta admit the headlights do look like the new z's
Yep, a little bit. Yeah. Yep. I I I would say
Interesting wheel choice, but I actually think it works
Yeah, anytime I see anything that's blade looking. I'm like, I just can't do it
It's too reminiscent of I mean, don't worry. I don't think you're looking at these for for a purchase. So let's let's you know
I don't think you know me, sir. I don't think you know me. It's actually me and the wife are overlooking. You think you know me. Yeah
I
Maserati is one of these brands that is so rudderless
They're just rudderless. I'll let me pull up another one. You don't you just have no idea
What they're really trying to do
I mean, they've picked some cool colors for the pictures. Yeah, I don't know if they're AI renderings or
Pictures, I don't know. Well, either way, it looks good because they have good color if they are AI renderings
They can take a couple of cues. That looks fantastic
Look your favorite green you go
British racing green that looks so good. So man imagine
Why didn't Ferrari just call them? That's very Ferrari asks two men if you just go. Hey guys
What do you got cooking over there that we can buy? Yeah, can we buy borrow? I mean, we know we know you have no money
What would you like to sell and we know you're not going to sell anything
Which by the way, you want to take a guess at how many of these units sold last year that they they
You know, they don't they don't actually give sales numbers Maserati doesn't but they estimated 100 and three
That's so rude
I think it was 8,000 by the way. I think I think it was a no possible chance. Are you serious 8,000 these guys sold?
No chance. I did that is a phony number. That's fake news. You were going to say that is fake
100% no chance 8,000 of those really. Okay. Well, you heard it here first. I was trying to be kind Maserati
I did 8,000 get lost on one ship and they counted as sales. Maybe
Maybe well, okay, maybe maybe they got caught in the straight and got hit by a
You know, let me let me be even more specific
76 of them were registered in the u.s. Yeah, that's see. I wasn't that far off
I wasn't that far off. I forgot that detail. they shipped 8,000, but only about 70 came
That's what I said shipped so magically it got caught in straight of her moves. I hit they're still there
Got a guy hit and and is at the bottom of the ocean. Oh, that's funny
Well, you know, such as it looks great though. I mean, it's one thing Aston and Maserati
I mean
The the the exact opposite of Jaguar. They're like, we're not going to build you anything you want to buy
But it's all going to look great. Oh man. We're gonna you're going to wish you could buy this and trust it
But you're just not and you're going to complain about it on your podcast on your growingly popular podcast
Um, all right. Here's a brand that you are very uh, you're very much a fan of and I'm gonna go ahead and pull it up from
Automotive news and I usually don't pull up automotive news because they don't give you a whole lot of the article because you have to subscribe
And it's okay. I'll still give you credit Jaguar Land Rover to focus on the u.s. With Stalantis back defender as china falls away
Essentially a lot of the people seeing that uh, european brands are struggling in china
We talked about it a couple of times. So now you have Land Rover Jaguar with Stalantis
Making defender pop in the u.s. Targeting wealthy individuals
Does that whole combination sound like a winning recipe if they're gonna not focus on china?
Land Rover got hit by a hacking situation, I believe maybe twice
Right, uh, maybe within the last year
They had to shut down production because they had to pay ransom to some hacker group. Oh, wow
I thought they just chose to it. Well, no, no, I think they they chose because of
Tariffs, but I think either before that or after that they got hit by a hacking situation
I don't think they've had a great two to three year situation here inside the Land Rover brand. I will tell you this
Just got in a defender. Yeah
Set up just how you would think I would like dark green
The wheels are black. I would do a little something different there, but it looked great
Uh, uh a dad at at one of my daughter's uh, jujitsu classes 30 day plates
I just stopped in my tracks. He was getting out. I said, hey, man. You mind if I hop in this thing?
Holy moly. Yeah, and uh, he's a uh, South African guy. He's so nice. He's like, yeah
He goes, you like these? I'm like, I just want to check it out. I gotta tell you man
For all of you that hate on Land Rover, I get it. You don't want to buy one in the used market
But a brand new one under warranty, which we always kind of tell you there's brands to
Buy under warranty that would be the brand to buy under warranty
It is so well done
It is so well done for again, like we say about Bronco. They were bringing back an icon
you know
those
Defenders are are some of the most sought after restorations that are done in the world
They're horrible to drive if you've never driven one. They're so god. They're so no the old ones. Yeah. Yeah, uh, they're so goddamn cool
You really don't care
Be you probably need a beach house. That's where they kind of float. Okay. They just stay there
If you're not in the beach house world, I get it. It's not your thing
But they're still sought after as one of the biggest rest restoration situations to get involved in
They did this right for bringing back an icon
Whether you're into it or not
That's the part you have to respect because when you get in them, you're like, yeah, man, this this thing is awesome
Okay, here's the question. How big does the show need to get? Let's get a subscriber goal for maybe 2026 or even 2027
For you to say because you could do this right now if you wanted to but I know nick and he's he's a responsible aristocrat
Believe it or not. Yeah, for you to delete. So keep the old cars. Obviously you got the lx
It'll always be kind of a daily do it all the the the bmw just kind of keeps
You know
Increasing in value over here in the corner and then you get a leased vehicle not not a family vehicle a leased vehicle for nick
That is a new defender. That is a new whatever because look we say it all the time
We roast a lot of these new cars, but some of them are really cool
And they're really nice. This is this is one of them. Yeah, they should be one of them
This should be very high on my list
Whether it's the look the smell that so whatever, you know, you know some things going on behind the scenes with me
Yeah, and I'll say this to everybody. I think my life changes with more space
Probably I think I think if I if I have the space that I'm looking at in the next couple years then
Absolutely, there'll be a lot more irresponsible decisions, but I do have some news and I'll put it out to our
I think I'm ready to sell the bmw. No way
What happened?
So I drove it all week because I had I gave the mechanic I use had a had a lot of stuff going on
I said, hey, just keep it for a week. You know, we're all good. Just just get it to me
You know before the end of the week we're in now. So I got it back yesterday
and
I drove the bmw
All week and it's so enjoyable to drive
But here's what I always say about that extra car or the extra two cars or five cars whatever situation you're in
I've always looked at it when I feel like I've gotten enough of the experience
It's not that I don't like the vehicle or I don't love the vehicle
It's like I've had enough of that experience
Right and so that's what the extra car or two cars or three cars that I've ever had on hand
When I feel like I've had enough of the experience I want to get it and then
Right when I'm thinking that
I get an alert on my phone. This is exactly how it happens divine intervention. I pick up my lx yesterday
I have now been driving the the bmw all day every day for for a week
I'm thinking
As I'm parking my lx in my shop. I'm like
Yeah, man, I think I'm ready for a new experience on the you know getting rid of the bmw
I sit down on my desk. I'm here for like five to ten minutes and I get an alert that an e 55 wagon has just come up for option
And I look at it and I go
Yeah, I think I'm ready for a new experience
So I'm gonna put it out to our crowd first if you're in if you want a manual e 90 m 3 45 000 miles
Uh, very well taken care of very well serviced
$43 000 I'll sell it to our crowd
We just saw the market move up
Uh, I am
In no rush. I love the experience
I want another experience and this this is for those of you that are kind of in this position where you got
A daily driver. Maybe you got a family car or another, you know, somebody else in your family driving another vehicle
And you got this third vehicle or fourth vehicle or whatever however many is beyond that
The way I always explain it is when I'm done with the experience and I go man
I'm so glad I had this experience
That's when it's time for me to move on some of that has happened in three months
Some of that's happened in nine months. Some of that happened in a year
This has been one of my favorite experiences. So it's stuck around longer, but I think it's time for another experience
How long have you had it? How many years?
I think it's getting pretty close to three. Yeah
Most things move after three years. Like that's kind of my mass. Well, most of my stuff was a year
Yeah, I've never done that short. I usually it's like two but three at three. It's kind of like, what are we doing?
Yeah, it's time for a new experience, but I'll tell you man. I love driving that car
That's the one thing I can say driving it for a week in and out of traffic. No traffic lots of traffic
I like driving the car. Like it's one of my favorite cars. I've ever owned. I literally have just gotten to a point that I go
Yeah, I think it's time for a new experience. All right, everybody
Let's see today from when this episode drops. All right, we got let's see
This episode is going to drop and it's going to be monday the 22nd
Give this towards or maybe post 4th of july if if nick hasn't gotten
Real offers by post 4th of july. What do you say starting early july?
I make a clip about this because I promise you if I make a clip about it
And we make it the way that we know how to make viral clips. You're going to get an inundated with
For real like I'll buy and and
I'm all just for fair market
Hey guys, the market's been set at 43 for the exact situation that I have
$43,000. I'll gladly let it go. We did see oneself for 99. I'm just saying everybody. So yeah, it's being very
Yeah, it wasn't it wasn't wasn't anything near what I have but
40 43 I'll let it go and
I'm this is one of those cars I always wanted to own and I get
To me, this is what it's all about, right? Like I really wanted to own this platform. I have owned it
I've enjoyed it
I just think it's time to try something else and I'm just getting the itch for a Mercedes wagon
It's just starting to grow okay in a big way now
Can listeners expect it to get the whole nick and hyper clean vr treatment before they get it?
Yeah, I mean we don't have a ton to do what you should know is
We have windshield protection film on it. Which is in great shape
It is really important as you get into some of these older cars to not have to replace the windshield
So it's got exo shield windshield protection film on it highest quality stuff out there
It's already got a coating on it. It's it's
In really good shape, you know, it has
Some rock chips on the front. Look, it's a it what?
12 18 year old, you know lower sports car
I will be replacing before even if somebody buys it. I gotta replace the back
Tint on the on on the back glass
So I'll do that for anybody that buys it
The tints in gray shape everything is top notch and actually I might buy
Brand new mats for somebody who buys it just because I'd want them to to have a fresh start
But it's it's been an awesome experience. It's just time
Right, I've just I've gotten everything out of it that I want to get out of it
And I know I get these questions all the time and people want some kind of formula
It's not it's not a formula when you're talking about these extra cars
It's just like when are you done with it so to speak
When is it time for you to move on and I'm ready to move on
Well, this actually segues perfectly into another story that we had here
So we talked about probably a week or so ago. Oh, let me say this. Yes, it has uh
I have the tune to air so you can hook your phone up which a lot of people don't have on these cars
So you can actually hook your phone up to the infotainment. Oh, nice
Listen, you know through your phone and all that stuff. That is a big plus for that year. Yes 100%
All right, check this out. BMW hasn't ruled out more fast wagons for the us
I mean the obvious is they got to put a
M3 touring in the u.s. Yes, that is what basically it summarizes because of the success of the m5
Hopefully it doesn't weigh more than a suburban
It was something ridiculous, right like a 78. I think I think the the m5 weighs more than a suburban. That's crazy
It still looks all I mean. Oh, yeah, it's incredible. It looks so good. Looks so good. Um, so yeah m3 touring
Right is is it's obviously the the successor and you know, I say that I want to um, Mercedes wagon
There are definitely some BMW wagons. I would look at
Yeah, but do you feel like when you've been in a brand that if you're going to try and experience it needs to be another brand
Yeah, yeah, I mean just like I would if I was really looking for wagon
I'd be heavy in the the the v wagon as well. Yeah, I mean I would look at those
I mean, but you get into a weird thing where
It is such a different experience
On the v wagon if you find a manual
Then the automatic right, you know, so
If I got in the v world, I'd probably be like, well, I'm gonna get I'm gonna go for the manual. Those have really popped in price
Uh, what I would like more than anything is
To finally have the proper wagon experience. I think that's the next step for me
You know, I got to say I know a lot of times, you know, Nick Nick says things very well
He explains it, but there's other times where you kind of go above and beyond your usual like
Delivery and the way you summarized your experience and when you've had the experience you're kind of done with it ready for a new one
I think that'll also shift a lot of people's perspectives on you know, what maybe I'm also
Going to be in the market soon because a lot of times people just hold on to the thing because they can't
Separate, you know, the value of it. How long they've had it the sentimental part of it
Versus the actual desire to want to go have another experience, but but they have to get rid of that one thing
Well, we all have
A different emotional attachment to cars
I mean you can see this in the collector car market all the way down to
To just people buying their third vehicle, you know to have a weekend car
Yeah, there's a lot of people and I completely understand this
That by something they've always wanted to own
They're getting a little tired of the experience, but they're so emotionally attached to that car
They can't separate it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, right and they really and I get that a hundred percent
You know, I mean that's what this is all about, right? I mean we get that kind of feeling for me
It's always just kind of been about what I said, which is once I have the experience and I've kind of checked that box
I'm good. I I could very easily
If I start searching for wagons start bidding on wagons. I feel like they're out of whack for what I want to pay
I don't you know, I go let's say three to six months looking for one. It's still not going well
Could I see myself in a 996 Porsche? I mean, could I see myself looking at those? Sure
Right like because I haven't had that experience
right so for me
When I get asked these questions one of the hardest things to tell people
is
I'm so open
To a new experience that also that means
I'm not I'm not going to sit there and say
It has to be the wagon like we've talked about excursion
Yeah, you know if an excursion came up that I wanted to own
At the price I was okay with but I was down this this wagon rabbit hole
I'd be like, well, I haven't had that experience. Let's get it
Well, actually that actually kind of piggy piggy's back off of what I was going to say piggy's back
Jesus Christ piggy backs off of what I was going to say
He's not bilingual
sometimes my words mixed up
I got the southern draw the knife. Sorry. I didn't realize you were George Lopez
How dare you never call me that man's name. I'll take fluffy over Joe Lopez
um
So you got a small sporty car whether it's four or two door and then you get into a bigger body
You know the car or a wagon or an excursion
Obviously it was send up to sizes when you're
Kind of trying to deliberate. What is the experience I want?
Is it hard for you to like because I know listeners for example that are trying to decide between cars that are
Completely different
From what they're that the two cars are and the one they actually have so they're like well, dude
Like it's really hard to decide when they're not even in the same ballpark, which I'm sure you've had to battle through the same thing
Yeah, it is really hard and the one thing I can say
It kind it works for me. I think everybody's kind of built differently
is
When I look for cars
What ends up happening usually is I'll have
Let's just use the number three to five different platforms
Could be from two door to four door to truck to suv
Whatever it may be
And I go I'd be really good with any of these experiences
And then what happens as the search
Continues to happen. I see the marketplace that three or four will go down to two
And what I'll find is
I've now narrowed it down to these two platforms that I would be
Equally, okay
Having that experience, but also
I'm not one of these guys that has like dream ownership
Right. There's a lot of people that live in I I dream of driving that car
I don't really have that I have I'd really love to experience that car
So I never get to that level where it's like, this is my dream car
And I think a lot of people if you're in that this is my dream car
Then I would tell you stick with finding that car
Because everything else you're going to be unhappy with because you've already got it in your head that this is your dream
You follow what I mean. I do. Yeah, I don't I don't really have that I have like
I'd really really love to own xyz
Not a dream
Right, like it's not something I'm like fixated on
I just go I'd really love to experience that and I think if you have a dream experience
Which is different than how I look at it then go for the dream experience if that if that's what you're looking for because
I've had a lot of people
Settle for something
And their mind they end up having to sell that thing for a loss and then they're back looking for their dream car
So if you if you're mentally at the that's my dream car, I'd say
Stick pretty tightly to that and this sounds like common sense
But there's times and maybe you've been the same way where you spend a lot of time going in and out of a lot
Of different size of vehicles
So you're used to a lot of different types of vehicles
And then you go through a spur of time where maybe you're just in yours and maybe one or two others
So you don't have a good like you're almost like your body and mind can't
Can't grasp how big or small certain cars are and then you get into a car
You think you want to buy and you're like, oh this feels like so off. It's too wide or it's too tall or whatever, right?
So again, nix said the tour example a lot or maybe if you have friends or whatever
Spend time in those in that vicinity of cars or even that specific car because if you buy it and it's not quite comfortable
And if you're gonna be pissed well, so we have this
With a specific client of mine. I may have shared up here before
He is very tall
Vehicles like ferrari doesn't work are not enjoyable for him
He always buys them
And i'm like and he always ends up having the same experience. That's the that's the real champ right there. Yeah, and you go
Man, they just don't they don't fit you like that and he is one of those guys like they don't fit him
A raptor
Fits him really nicely
It fits him real nice, but he's trying to buy a ferrari. Hey, that's fine. You know, and i'm talking
We're probably like 10 to 15 deep at this point all different configurations all different
It just doesn't work with his dimensions yikes and it also
Is something he has the money that none of this really matters, right, but you just go
Hey, you're just banging your head against the wall
So the the tour example or the experience example, especially if you're one of those guys that
Think you have a dream vehicle, which I think is awesome by the way
I wish at times I was built that way because I think that's a much cooler way to experience the market
Make sure you've driven that car enough
Make sure it's actually your dream vehicle
What a subtle way to be self deprecating by the way
You're like I wish I had the ability to dream like you guys out there. No, I just you know what i'm saying
I do I do like
I I there there are some
People i've come across which is really cool
They get to a certain point in life and it doesn't matter the car, right? I'm not talking about money here
I'm talking about what their dream car is
And they get that dream car and they're literally going to own it forever
Like they're just going to own it you can see it on their face
You can see it after they've owned it for a year you you can see this car is going nowhere. Yeah, like
Something catastrophic would have to happen for this car not to be in their life
That's just not how I experienced the car mark. I experienced the car market how I explained it, which is
I want to experience it and then I want to experience something else
And I can still love the car and go I would tell anybody out there
If you want a manual
At a at a price that really still makes sense what I own
I don't think there's a better experience
Like I it's as good as it can be
The difference is it's not a dream vehicle for me
Right, it's just it's just I don't work that way
And and you know you have people that you know
That when they get that dream vehicle
They're happier than I'll ever be
About cars. Yeah, dude. You know what I mean? And that's what I'm saying. I envy that. Yeah, you know
But when you've been in the car business for so long you just experience cars a little differently
And and that's just the way it is like one of the things I wish
I had
I really wish I would have bought and I think I would have had maybe this is is the NSX
Oh imagine
You know those were easily gettable at 35 to 55 for forever. Have you seen those prices now right now? Oh, yeah, I mean it's
And it's not to say it almost like I can't say it's not because of the price
You'd be like I wish I bought it of course, but also the experience like you just described
But also you see it like 10 times
You know the price of
And it's it's not that level of experience to me for for me. It's not that level of experience
Again, if it was your dream car, then yeah, there's the guys that ago
I've always wanted to own this and it's my dream car. I get that part of it
I always thought
And I even thought this at the time if I bought it for 40 or 45
I thought realistically it could be a 75 car
Because that's what I kind of think the experience is 75 if you have a perfect example
Let's call it 90 to 100
I never saw this. I mean, of course I'd have bought every NSX that ever
Existed and just parked them in a warehouse somewhere and no one I was going to make this kind of money
That's why I love all the hindsight people. Yeah
That that said oh, I knew this
So why didn't you take out the biggest bank loan in history and buy every NSX that was for sale?
Like dudes, you could get private party NSX's
For ever. Yeah, like, you know, just facebook marketplace craigslist
Craigslist at the time was flooded with NSX as you could have bought
That's a car I wish
Now and it's not about the appreciation of it. You know financially
That's a car. I think I could have owned forever
Wow, I love how it drives. I love the seating position. I love the experience
I will say I just love everything about that car. That's a car. I
Forget all the finance part of it. Okay, let's just say it was just flat. I bought it for 50 and it was still 50
That was one of those cars. I probably would have said I'm just going to hang on to it because I like it that much
My e 90 if I don't get the price I want it's not getting sold. I mean, I have no reason to sell it
Financially, I mean, I could just go buy another vehicle
But I will tell you this I'm ready to sell it. It's been an awesome experience and I hope it
Because I get a lot of these questions. I hope this little 20 minutes
Shine some light on
There's different ways to view all of this
I
do think the most healthy way to view it is
Once you have the experience and once you're done with the experience. It is time to move on
That's great, man. I like that. I like that a lot
I can give you an opposite for listeners too perspective on driving a car
You haven't driven a long time or that you want to buy and you're not sure of
I hadn't been in a raptor or driven raptor and close to I don't know seven to seven to ten years maybe
And but I've owned around them all the time
And I'm around them all the time and I've owned big trucks and whatever but the rangers
No, well, yeah that too. Why yeah, but like bigger crew cabs
But I knew what I wanted wanted and you know, I'd been looking for it for a while and we've talked about
After I told you to get one. Yeah, I will say that reignited the interest. It was always there already existing
But when I got in it initially after by the way already having purchased it and uh, and I left and I was like
Again driving hatchbacks for a lot for a long time. I'm like, man
This is a big vehicle and I knew it was and I remembered it
Also didn't help where I picked it up was of a congested area
It took about two days
And the first two days I'm like, I may have bitten more than I can
I don't know if this is what I want. Yeah, I don't know if this was the correct move
But after that 48 hour mark, it feels like I'm driving the gti
You just I can just whip that thing around and and you kind of settle into the experience
I had the similar experience with the panamera when listener blame let me drive his after
You know, we talked about it last summer
actually when they were in the in the middle of buying it him and his wife who listened to the show
I hadn't been in a panamera in a long time either and
You just can't a lot of times in that initial test drive or that one drive doesn't do it
Doesn't do it justice or doesn't do it all in that one time
Which is why the tour example is so great. I got out of the panamera. Love the car. I've always loved those cars
I'm like, I don't know if I would want a daily this or whatever
That's a silly thing to say
Yeah, you got to live with it, but it's a real thing. Yeah, right so
Again for a lot of you guys trying to to to get over into evs as a daily driver
Toro that thing man. See if that's what you want also a very different driving experience, you know, it's it's and it may be exactly what you're looking for
Or you'll go
This is making my drive to work and my drive to this and my drive to that not as fun for me
You're you're going to get one or the other but there's so many people that that you know
Have all of these inclinations of what they will like
And I think it's a very different thing to live with it
Like you said, I mean even driving that panamera around for a day probably wasn't enough for you to really make a decision
No, I wouldn't be it wouldn't have been if I was actually looking to buy that
It would have had to have been more than just a day
But I would say I mean you'd probably agree with this
For a four-door sedan to put your kids in
Panamera is pretty no, it's you get the right one. It's pretty sweet. No, it's super awesome for sure
It's just something about that initial the the shock almost of and you've talked about like the greenhouse of cars and the layout
And like a lot of things that people don't take into consideration
They're just dead set on the car and then they buy the car and they've already pulled the trigger on it
And it's like it just falls flat for them. Yeah. No, I
Happens way more often than you know, right? I mean and
Then you're just forced to live with it in some people's circumstance or like look man
I can't get rid of this now, you know, I got other stuff going on in my life
So I got to live with it and you're not that happy. So I think the toro thing is is is one of those
Little things that you could
Rent it for a week. Yeah, talk to talk to the guys say look, I'm just going to drive it around town
You know, I'm going to be up front with you like I just want to see if I want to buy one of these
What you'll find on toro is a lot of these people that rent the type of cars you guys would want to own
They just want you to be up front with them
So you can just tell them like hey, man, I'm just driving this to work and soccer practice and you know, wherever I go
And they're gonna be like great, man. I mean, it's not going out of town and could end up in the pacific ocean
I'm good
Unless you pay me extra and wink wink. Yeah, exactly. We can do that cleaning fee cleaning fee
Um, do you have the time to do some extra time today? Oh, yeah. Okay. Cool. We got a couple stories
I don't want to you know, kind of rattle off and speed run through with you
But also, uh, you watching the world cup you watching some of these
No, I had some other people ask it's just not something I've gotten into
Yeah, me neither. I believe it or not
Yeah, well
Do is anybody believe it? Look at Rob
That's what I'd say believe it or not. Yeah
Um, all right, like I got to pull this up real quick. So we were talking about poor show
We're talking about panamaro talking about EVs actually you just brought it up all at once
Did you see the video? I don't have the video, but I got the pictures of the 2027 tycan that's offering the fake gears
You got the paddle shifters and it's like an eight speed
Fake experience people are outraged by this. I kind of think hot take it's a cool addition
I you know, I know uh, hunday did this with the end. I believe other people have done it too
Uh, you know, it is what it is. You can turn it off. You don't have to use it
Uh
I get it, you know porches trying to find something that
Brings that Porsche feel
Exactly. I wouldn't say that this would make it. So I want to buy it. No
And and everybody's gonna get on you. It's I think it's tycan. Oh, yeah, sorry
Yeah, this is like when people are like jaguar jaguar. We get comments like that
I'm not gonna listen to somebody that doesn't pronounce jaguar hayan day
Yeah, relax
This is another car you go. I still don't know how we ended up with the luce
Because when you look at this, it's like, yeah, I I can tell that it's a Porsche. It's it's well done
I I still don't know how we ended up with the luce. Can't let it go. Trust me. I haven't let it go. I can't let it go
Yeah
If this makes it more engaging
I could see
You know swaying a buyer here and there are they gonna sway
30,000 50,000 100,000 buyers. No
It seems like a party trick, you know, that's that's kind of why I think why people aren't receiving it
Well, and I kind of see that too. This seems like a party trick that they're just doing to to throw it together
I I don't I don't mind the experience of one of these
Like I said, we had one of the first ones in the u.s a customer mine. It bricked itself at a light
You know, I've shared that story before
Never to be fixed again. Never to be driven again
That one was taken on a commission merely days after delivery
But it's it's it's definitely
Porsche's take on the ev
I think their Gran Turismo
Is one of the evs. Obviously now that's heavily depreciated. I'd be interested in with that little hatchback feel
Slash wagon feel slash everything in between
I don't think this moves the needle and especially because you're really not the first one to do it
and it seems like you're just kind of
I
Guess to all of us it probably feels like they're just doing it to do it
Yeah, and I don't think that really gets enthusiasts really excited
Well, I got a segue into another one
Another brand that feels like they're doing this just to do it
But also after the video that we put up of you talking about Ferrari versus Porsche's
Allocation process and that whole thing. Do you see what Ferrari said? Do you see what the the main?
I think the marketing VP or chief marketing officer said about luce
You want to take a guess at what sort of statement he put out there?
You were never going to guess this will bring new buyers to Ferrari
Well, there's definitely that but no Ferrari won't force you to buy luce ev to gain access to higher models
Sure
This whole article it was it's hysterical
It's buy the drive if you guys want to go read it give credit where credits do we try to make sure to shout out people
The right stuff we talk about let's slow down for all you people to think this is not how the game works
They just admitted this is how the game has always worked
Uh, you know, we had some people say I walked into the dealership and got a gt3 the same day brand new off the lot
No, you didn't
Uh, or you found the one dealership that doesn't sell gt cars all across the country
Uh, but here's here's where we're at. This is a cute statement
Uh, but this is exactly how they're going to do things
when those sales numbers are
Much lower
They're going to force people to buy these vehicles because they've done it throughout history
I will go back to something we said earlier in this show and something we've been saying since the end of 2024 when we came on here
Far too many c sweet execs are talking
Why even make this statement
Check this out. So apparently there was a report done by bloomberg, right? So the chief, uh, what is his name?
Mr. Uh, oh, I got to find it here
Uh, galleria or something like that galley era
Right. So no, I was mad because we don't respect what was written in the article and it's totally not correct
He told the drive
Let me say why because since the very beginning we made it clear that our clients to this our clients at this is a car designed
For a different target audience
What what exactly target audience is looking to pay for a behind technology?
$650,000 ev that's a great question anybody explain to me exactly who that audience is which i'm guessing wasn't the follow-up question
Uh, when on this interview, which is what any self-respecting person would have said is
Who's in the market for a $650,000 ev?
When people aren't even in the market for 150,000 other evs
Based on the experience we've seen in the market for previous models
If you sell a car to a client who doesn't want to buy it, they will become the first negative ambassador
So well, that's not true. You've been selling cars people don't want for decades dude
I'm telling you and they're they're still buying this seemed like it was just like it's like a parody article or interview
But everything here has gone against what and honestly this was also based off of clients who told the reporters that this is how it works
So and I can tell you those conversations have been had of course
Why would you go and I mean it's a it was a
Short-ish article, but it's just doubling down on like that's not how it works. It's never worked that way
It's 100% worked that way
100% worked that way
and
Has made you one of the most envied brands
In the history of the car business
Our message is very clear. This car is not being forced on people
It should be only given to the client who would like to buy it. He had it. I'll nobody
I'd like to repeat this luce is another variety to the lineup
So the benefits to the client gets the gets combined
So let's talk about why they priced it where because they didn't want to be seen as selling a budget Ferrari
Okay, because that would hurt the entire brand
So everybody in that building knows this should have been somewhere between 100 and 150 thousand dollar eb
They can't do that
It would destroy the brand it would destroy the price integrity of the brand the the the value of the brand all of that
So you price it at 650,000 and then you tell me to attract new buyers
Luce it doesn't sell a lot and it's way technologically beyond what you guys are offering
Porteous struggle to sell their eb's
Every brand struggle to sell their eb's across especially the United States market
Which is where Ferrari is going to need this to be successful on some level as well as Europe and other places
Who exactly is the new target audience?
because I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
You guys had
And I know this has been talked about and so not to pile on with the same opinion
This has totally ruined that design firm and what's his name?
Is it ivy?
Man, I can't remember. No, that's not it. No
Anyway, he's a respected designer. This will be a black mark on his career
It doesn't matter what anybody thinks this is gonna be a black mark on a hit on his career
It's gonna be a black mark on Ferrari for the brand. Yeah
Doesn't mean that Ferrari's not gonna do well. I'm not saying that but this is this is a black eye. I mean
This couldn't have gone worse. I mean just plain and simple
When people go this could be a Hyundai. This could be a Prius. I mean you you missed the mark
And now you're doubling down saying we're not gonna shove it down people's throat when not only do you and I know for a fact personally
People have been contacted and told
Hey, when this lands if you want to move up the allocation list, it's a good way to do it
Now the guy goes that's not happening
And when we force cars down people's throats, they become negative ambassadors
BS you guys have done that for decades and force stuff out on people's throat
It's done no negative damage to your brand. You have one of the most respected
Ecosystems that any brand would love to own
Right just it doesn't matter that it's a Ferrari the way Ferrari's brand prints money
Is through this ecosystem. That's why people try to copy it
It's so which is why this whole article is more bizarre
So I'll leave you with the final line here buying a luce compliments their garage
But does not give the right or push to buy something else if somebody has a collector garage
With a bunch of great collectors cars. This will be in the barn
Six miles on their property away from their collection and hoping it's never a bar find
And no way will this ever be showcased as they're proud to own it
Well, I hope you got a kick out of this the way I did when I first read it. I mean, that's yeah, it's
how
How is this what a human being says when everybody knows how the system works? And by the way
I think a lot of things that get said by these sweet c-suite executives
Is because they truly don't think the internet exists on the level that it does
Like I think when jim farley talks, he's like this isn't going to spread across the internet
Like remember when he had the whole we have a shortage of technicians and then technicians are like
Well, we have an eight-hour job that you pay us for four hours. Why do you think you have it?
It's like they don't understand people are going to talk and I will say niggas have these kind of conversations all the time
To which I typically I guess I kind of sound like the cynical person
Where I'm like, yeah, I don't think a lot of these people do see and then we'll kind of have niggas back and forth
We're like you really think a certain person doesn't you know, keep these things consideration
A lot of times I just don't and this is kind of one of those examples of like they're completely aloof to a lot of
The the capacity that people have to consume and see and share and have all this stuff blow up way more than they think
It can't yeah, I think I think your your theory is probably the most accurate one. It's great
It's like I just I just don't think they understand the shareability. Yeah of people
Telling stories to one another
And then posting it on the internet and now millions of people get access to that story
I hope
I hope I hope that people read this article go back to that video that was it's only maybe six or seven days old and say
See, I read the Bloomberg reporter. I read the drive article. You're wrong. They don't do this nick. Yeah, they
I can say
There's all there's already been conversations
That I'm aware of that I'm privy to on
luce being a way to
Gather good faith in the allocation process
Well, I think if you didn't already know that which I'm sure everybody did
You definitely know it now and this is one of those. What's what's the way? He acknowledged that the whole system exists
Right. It doesn't what is it the Shryzan effect, right? Like you're just you're making this a much bigger thing than it
What have been if you just left it alone?
Yeah, and I actually think
This them trying to recover all this stuff from the luce launch is making it worse. Yeah, I think look at this gray color
It's like no no no
Once you realized it was bad. You should have done the gm thing and just went dark
Exactly. See American brands know what they're doing sometimes
Yeah, it's like it's like they're in the middle of like a political scandal and they won't stop talking and the attorneys are like
Hey, dude, stop saying stuff
If you're not gonna take my counsel if you're not gonna take my counsel, why are you paying me?
You're going to go to jail. Stop talking
You can hear the the bars closing behind you. Stop talking. Yeah. Yeah, no doubt about it
Um, all right
I got two more for you
I just want to be a quick one
But we since we talked about it I want to bring it up the Mitsubishi Montero that we had you know been kind of excited for
Isn't coming until 2031
Oh, there we go. So I guess we'll just put that on the shelf for a couple of years guys
I wonder if it's been pushed back because I think there's a real argument that Mitsubishi could exit America
Really?
Uh, I think there are some signs that
They're gonna have to make one of two decisions
They're gonna have to go all in financially
Which would be a lot of money and say we got to go in and we got to be in for the next 10 to 20 years
Which is a hard thing to to do
Inside of a company
Or I think it's just a 50-50 shot. They say we're kind of done with America. Hmm
Interesting. Yeah, you could be right. Maybe if they do partner up with somebody like the Nissan
It's kind of what you see with infinity, right? Like infinity is still on that 50-50 chopping block
It's like they could end up looking at infinity
I don't think this will happen because Nissan probably wants as always wants to have a luxury brand
But you could you could realistically see a world where infinity just never gets back on its feet and it just doesn't exist
You're absolutely right. That could be definitely possibility. All right. All right
We're gonna land the plane with this one kind of the best for last in a weird way
But did you see that slate had leaked allegedly pricing on the truck?
24 24 a starting of 24
So we're already off to pretty bad footing now. We'll start with that. That's kind of the headline. That's what they're saying
I kind of took it as okay
Let's play some 15d chess here because if you leak something on your website, you didn't leak it
You're looking for marketing. attention, which they got it or market research
Or market research, which the combination of the two is definitely what a company like them needs
Considering tariffs and the economy and the the EV incentive not being there like initially when they first kind of launched everything
But what if they come out and they're like
You know april fools. It's actually going to be 14 not 24
Oh my god, they're going to sell all of them
That's vince mcman's music. No chance. That's what you can't so
So
This would be kind of odd pricing because with the 7500 tax credit that would have been under what they were shooting for
Before right which makes me think they were planning to sell it less expensive before all that kind of went away
I would say the number that seems right is somewhere around 21
I think 21 gets you into a lot of different conversations. I think the three grand really does matter in this just predicament
This had to be market research just to see if they would get a lot of negative feedback
I don't think that's the right starting price because
When you start to option this truck, it's going to go up pretty quickly
By all looks of it. That's kind of what they've admitted
So I think if you start at 21 and you say you get one that's that's
Got pretty much everything you would want at 25
I think that would be sort of where I would see the market would probably have its limit
If you start at 25, that means you're going to have some pushing 30
I don't think people are going to buy it and then this has always been what we've said it's going to
Slate is going to matter
When they come to market everything they've said and done is is is real and
There's value to it, but it's only value to a certain price and that price to me still has to hover around that 20
I wonder
I'm starting to think the more I just keep up with these stories of slate if it could kind of carve out its own
And it's kind of the the opposite of what the approach is
But like a premium buyer who really just wants this specific type of thing a small easy to drive
You know cheap affordable cheap ish
So more more like the neos plan
Yes, just like hey, we're just going to have this we're just going to have this niche great comparison. Yes
But the problem is when you think wouldn't you think rivian would kind of be what?
Well, I'm seeing I don't know if this is a propaganda attempt, but I don't know about you
I'm seeing a ton of upset people with their rivian. So again, we've we've praised rivian
You've talked about how the you know the owner being an old, you know car builder and this that very smart all that
Okay, that caveat
There's a lot of angry people and threads that so I'm being fed this on my algorithms
I don't know why maybe just researching it who you're a hater
That's not true
Maybe a little bit maybe a little bit. No, but just saying how and then they got videos of their vehicles
You know falling apart and how bad experiences they've had. Yeah rivian rivian has is going through some growing pains. There's no question about that
Lemon cars, you know lawsuits that are ignoring. They're ignoring and yeah, no the lemon car thing
You know, I've explained to everybody. There's not a brand that doesn't go through lemon law
Yeah, I don't care of your favorite brand in the world from Toyota to Ford to Chevy to to rivian to lucid
They all go through lemon law situations all the time by the way every day all day every day
Rivian is trying to scale
And when you're trying to scale we saw this with tesla as tesla started to scale
You'd have cars where the paint was just coming off
bumpers were falling off peeling off
You know batteries weren't operating properly. I mean when you try to scale it puts a lot of downward pressure on your manufacturing processes
Rivian is definitely going through that the only thing I've ever said about rivian still holds true
They have a lane they stay in it
Which they do
Although I think they've started to show what the rivian cars are going to look like and things like that but
At this point in time rivian stayed in its lane
And from a quality of being on the interior
It is on the right level
For getting people to switch to an ev
right because it's not that
Cheap interior feel and that kind of thing like they've done a good job there
The the next part of it though is now that they've tried to scale. Yeah, they are having some serious growing pains
and
It can't be overstated
How many of the growing pains are because they thought this volts wagon share
You know buying a share of the company was going to ease some tension
Ease some problems and what they found out is that didn't help as much as we thought
Uh, which we could have told them
But I think they've probably been reliant on
A lot of technology that hasn't been worked out yet at scale
Right for them internally. Yeah, like tesla's obviously figured out how to do things at scale to a high level
From an ev perspective. I think there's a real conversation
Rivian's going to go through some growing pains
But you can say the same about lucid and they don't even you know that they're not they're not even you know
Trying to push the envelope and go, you know full scale on the level rivian wants to go mainstream
So I got a picture of the the suv variant here of the slate with the back on it looks really good
So I will say, you know, can't it can't be too specific
But if you do end up buying one everybody listening or you got a friend
Let them know that rob will let them take care of the rap part of it if they want to wrap their their slate
Maybe i'm cooking something up on that side of the world
But I feel like yeah, I'm kind of really leaning on the and I'm glad you made the anios comparison
There's just something about this whole thing where in and another reason to is you see people always talk about you can find a hybrid maverick for
23 or some shit like that. They're right about that. They are right about that
but
One find it if you can I'd say buy it to
The buyer again if you look at an anios or anything they might be kind of cross-shopping
They probably don't want to cross-shop a maverick if they want a slate
That and some people also don't want the forders everybody always talks about it's got the four doors
It's got this already built in or whatever
Some people just if they buy the any of experience
I kind of like where you're going with this, but I think slate is falling victim
To something we see, you know, you just brought up the montero
2031
Slate has been fooling around for too long
I think this hasn't been helpful to them
No, this this like not getting to the market and just constantly having conversation
While I think from a marketing perspective you can take that as a positive
I think the negative is
Now people can start picking you apart. Yeah, I really think they're probably
Right now they've been hanging out for a year long
That's my opinion they just been hanging out for too long they need you need to go to market and you need to see what you have
Yeah, it was really I mean this is totally off subject because we're about to wrap the show up
But me and I both met in our mics at the same time to cough and that that was the weirdest thing
Wow, we are so synced up
But long story short, I mean I hope that something works out
And if it doesn't work out in a way that we all
Anticipated where it was like a 20,000 dollar, you know starting price or whatever
It's just gonna that's another
Kind of attempt to again just parse out who their buyer is going to be and yeah, and I think I think that's what I mean by
You've stayed out of the market for so long. Everybody's telling stories. Yeah
Had you been in the market got it to market been able to make adjustments and see where the market is
You'd be much further along now. I'm sure there's production issues or whatever that they're dealing with but
I think this has just been talked about for too long and I think it's not done them any favors
Yeah, all right

About this episode
From listener Lexus LX buying advice to “project” car realities, the hosts dig into what real maintenance looks like—especially on older Land Cruiser/LX examples with frame rust and AAC height-control systems. They also debate modern driver-assist tech, right-to-repair barriers, and why camera recalibration gets skipped. Later, the conversation shifts to EV pricing and leaks (Slate), plus Ferrari allocation/access claims tied to Luce EV purchases, and what that does to brand perception. The episode ends with fast-wagon talk and a manual BMW M3 listing.
