when is the last time anybody even heard the name Corsica?
That did exist.
I mean, it's a Greek island, but I don't think it's part of it.

I bought, I think it was, we bought it, bought a Corsica.
And after we bought the Corsica, my brother,
who doesn't like to do a lot of research,
is like, do you like your car?
I'm like, it's fine.
So he also bought a Corsica.
That was his research.
So this Corsica died a very slow death.
Things just kept falling apart with it little bit,
like, by little bit.
So one of them was, so you're sitting in the car
and you probably don't think about it
because, like, there's the ceiling in your car, right?
Well, this car, that ceiling, there was like the lining
that was once upon a time glued, the ceiling,
that in this car became unglued.
You have, like, this little canopy kind of in your car.
So we had that driving.
So we, again, back to duct tape
and whatever could try to fix.
Doesn't, nothing would make it stick.
So we always had, like, these loopy roof things
hanging down.
And then my husband's family, hence my family,
were all meeting in Jersey in July for a family vacation.
We rented a big house, everybody was gonna be there.
Everybody's coming in different directions.
So in this case, I was driving our younger son.
So it was me and my younger son.
Of course, the AC didn't work in this car.
Like, no roof, no AC.
So we had, I don't know if you remember these bottles
that you would fill up with water
and there was like a little fan.
So you would squirt the water and then the fan.
And squirt yourself, yeah.
It was like mini air conditioning.
Yeah.
So that was our air conditioning.
And so I have my son in the back with his AC.
And so we're driving along
and we're crossing the tap and z,
which is relatively flat bridge for most of it,
which is lovely.
And the car starts to overheat.
So I see the steam coming up.
Now I've had bead bombs my whole life.
So I stand when I see steam, what is happening,
what I'm supposed to do,
but I'm on the tap and z bridge with wall-to-wall traffic.
It's July.
We're in New York.
We're headed to Jersey.
Lots of cars.
Okay.
And so my son's in the back, hot.
I'm like spritz, spritz, spritz.
At one point, I thought about like just turning my car off
and putting it into neutral
and asking the guy behind me, like,
can you just bump me along as like we progress?
Because we were bumping the bumper of the track.
And I was like, I need to turn my car off.
It's going to, you know, it's already steaming
and I'm not over the bump of the tap and z.
I'm like on the flat level leading to the bump.
I've got a ways to go.
So I'm turning my car on and off
and I was like, now my battery's gonna die
because I'm turning my car on and off all the time.
Again, I've learned cars.

So eventually we make it over the bridge, traffic clears.
And Ian, when I told him the story originally,
asked the question, he was like,
so you pulled over and like you checked the battery
and you felt the bomb.
I was like, no, because now that we were finally moving
and I was cool right down to getting to, I was like,
nope, there's going to be air flowing through it.
It's going to cool it down.
I'm just going to go as long as I'm not stuck.
It's warm, but flash the heat.

figuring we're just going to get another Honda
because it was a great little car.

They started, it started with zero manual.

So we went to the Honda place and the sales guy there,
you know, we're looking at Hondas and he goes, honestly,
he goes, and he saw that I was obviously pregnant
and he was like, I'd rather see you in a Volvo.
And I'm like, yeah, I'd rather see myself in a Volvo too.
And he had a Volvo, his personal Volvo.
So we ended up buying the sales person's Volvo.
So it was how that happened.
So he had, what was that?

An eight.
It was a 740.
A 40 sedan.
It was great.
It was so much better than a Honda.
So it was like great sold.
So that's how we landed with that first Volvo was.
Yeah.
Mice had taken up residency.
I couldn't live with them.
And so we sold the car.
Did, so did that Volvo 740 then inspire
other Volos that came into the family?
Cause I know there were a lot.
Within the Burns family, I just remember
there were lots of all.
So there was Pathy and then you got that.
And then, yeah, cause then I remember
even actually having a phone call.
I'm like, yeah, we got a new car.
We got a Volvo.
You got a Volvo.
And then like, you know, like hours later, we got a Volvo.
Like it was just, it was, yeah, it went through the whole.
I love that.
The family Volvos.
We actually got, I think this was our first Volvo
from that same friend down the Newport Bridge.

The same friend from that car had a Volvo wagon
that they were getting, they wanted to sell
and, you know, tried to sell it to dealer
didn't get the price, we know, whatever.
And then knew we were looking for a car.
And so we got it from her.
So we bought her Volvo and that was the first one,
Robbins, and that was a wagon.
I think was that, was that the, Nancy,
was that the dark blue one with like the tan interior?
I think that, I think that was also a 740.

We could like, so it was wonderful to have a great
mechanic for your Volvos.
And that then also it reinforced our decisions
to get more Volvos.

It's like when you've got your trustworthy mechanic,
it's a big deal.
And then to that point that then when we got my S40,
which I loved, loved, loved that car.
And then we brought it in and they're like,
and I remember his face.
It was like, you got an S40?
And I was like, oh, I probably should have asked you first.
Oh no.
I let the mechanic down.
I was like, my mechanic doesn't like my car.
But I love that car.
It lasted for a minute.
They ended up actually buying it from us
and fixing it up for their son.
So I don't feel so bad.

I kept it in the family.

I would have to say that's probably my favorite car
was my S40 Volvos.

but on the Volvo talk,
my boss, Stu, he's never,
he's never owned Volvos.
But when I met him,
like I've worked for him now for almost 12 years,
but when I met him, he was driving a sob
that he bought off the side of the road.
And it was like 200,000 miles.
Like he just needed a car.
So he bought that.
And I was like, Stu, like you own this business.
Like I'm going to help you get a car.
And we bought from an auction,
a one-year-old Volvo.
It was a V60 wagon, 2016.
And I mean, it's a 16,000 miles on it.
I mean, it was basically brand new.
And I cannot believe, like he drove that car
for like four or five years
and put like 120,000 miles on it
in a single problem, nothing.
Like, I mean, he changed the oil,
like brakes and tires, but nothing else.
And I was like, that's unheard of.
He's like, I guess that's pretty good.
I was like, no, that's amazing.
I'm sold on Volvos.
The next one we got him was after it got 120,000 miles on it
is a XC60 Volvo, a 2018.
And same thing, got into an auction
and it had like 20,000 miles on it.
And he still has it and it's got like 113,000 miles on it.
Same thing, like he's driven it for 100,000 miles
and just changed oil and tires and brakes.
And it just goes and goes and goes.
Like they're incredible cars, incredible cars.

You can't even think about quitting on them before 200.
No. Oh yeah.

And they'll do it.
They'll do it as long as they don't get any rust on them.

So I was able to like just, you know,
you know, fury just like rip enough off of like the driver's door
and the windshield to just get it off.
And this was like the tactic to like,
oh, we'll slow him down.

And I mean, it is comical to have seen it.
I mean, it's also like, what do I do?
Like my car is literally wrapped up
like a present here with Serenwrap.
So that was the whole tactic.
I think the second one happened at,
at the high school parking lot.
So the poor Volvo got a Serenwrap twice.
And, but we, I made it out in time.
Like it was somehow, yeah.
Like whether I had a friend with me or what,
but I managed to get out of their unscathed
despite their best efforts.

It didn't hurt the car any.

So rented a Subaru, hated it, hated that car.
And so now I have an EV, which I absolutely love.

reliable, big, whatever.
And this one is wonderful and zippy and cute.
And I'm very, very happy.

It's always, for me, I always love hearing people
find a car that they really like.
Because there's nothing worse than someone buying a car
and then like a couple months later
and they're like, I really don't like it.
It's like, we should have made that decision.

So I loved my Volvo, went to Subaru, hated it.

What does the hold button mean?

So the hold button is when you're in traffic, right?
And you come to a stop and that button is on,
you can release your foot from the brake
and it will hold it.
So you don't have to keep holding the brake pedal.
