They’re talking about what Max Verstappen might do next in racing. The hosts connect his test results to the idea that he could succeed in other types of races too.
That’s a famous endurance race at Nürburgring that lasts 24 hours. Instead of just one fast lap, it tests whether the car can keep going and whether drivers can stay consistent for a long time.
A “triple crown” is a big motorsport achievement where someone wins three major races. It’s considered a huge deal because it’s hard to do across different events.
Brembo makes brake parts for lots of cars, including performance models. Here they’re working on a brake system that uses electronics instead of hydraulic fluid to control braking.
Normally, brakes use hydraulic fluid to squeeze the pads. A fully electric braking system uses electronics to control braking instead, which can make the response more adjustable.
Electronic brake feel refers to how the brake pedal’s resistance and feedback are generated and calibrated by electronics rather than purely by hydraulic pressure. Because the pedal-to-brake response can be mapped in software, some drivers may find it different from a conventional hydraulic setup.
This means the car can control braking at all four wheels using electronics instead of hydraulic pressure. That makes it easier to fine-tune braking wheel-by-wheel.
Torque vectoring is about sending power (or in this case braking force) to different wheels to help the car turn and stay stable. If the car can brake each wheel differently, it can “steer” the car using braking.

AI sport
“AI sport” is basically a fancy driving mode where the car uses its computer to adjust how it drives. The host is saying it could even use GPS and track knowledge to help with braking and cornering.
The Dodge Charger is a car with a focus on performance, including faster versions with more power. In the podcast, it’s mentioned in the context of using it hard, like for track driving. That’s why people bring up how it handles demanding situations.
Instead of the pedal directly pushing brake fluid through the lines, the car can translate what you do with your foot into electronic commands. That can make the brake feel different, especially when you’re trying to brake smoothly.
Modulation just means how smoothly you can control how hard the brakes are working. Good modulation makes it easier to brake gently or gradually instead of on/off.
This means the car can brake each wheel separately instead of all wheels getting the same braking force. It helps the car stay stable when the road grip changes.
A brake kit is a set of brake parts sold together, usually including things like pads and rotors (and sometimes calipers). People upgrade them to make the brakes work better than the factory setup.
A brake finder is a website tool that helps you pick the correct brake parts for your exact car. Instead of guessing, it helps you get the right kit that fits.
Drilled and slotted rotors are brake rotors with holes (drilling) and grooves (slots) machined into the surface. The slots help channel away gases and debris from the pad surface, which can improve braking consistency, especially under repeated hard stops.
Carbon fiber ceramic brake pads are made from a special friction material blend. They’re intended to stop well and usually make less brake dust than many standard pads.
Shenandoah Circuit is a race-track event location the hosts are talking about. They describe it as a shorter, technical track with lots of changes in elevation.
The Pontiac Fiero is an older sports car that’s known for being fun and different. The podcast mentions “Space Fiero,” which refers to a specific fan or themed version people remember. It’s discussed because it has a strong following and recognizable history.
The 2017 Dodge Challenger RT Scat Pack is a V8-powered muscle car. The host highlights that it was a manual transmission, which is the kind of choice car people often look for.
The Challenger is a performance muscle car. The podcast mentions it while talking about other very powerful cars in the same family of models. It comes up because people are comparing what these high-power cars feel like and why someone would want one.
The Mini Cooper S is a small car that’s tuned to drive more sporty than a typical compact. In the story, it’s the car they added for learning to drive.
Unpaved roads are dirt or gravel instead of smooth pavement. They can be rough on a car, so you often need something with better clearance and tougher tires.
Engine cooling is how the car keeps the engine from getting too hot. On a track, the engine works harder for longer, so good cooling helps prevent overheating.
The Toyota GT 86 is a small sports car built to be fun and easy to drive. The podcast talks about buying a couple of them, which shows they’re seen as enjoyable cars to own. It’s mentioned as a practical way to get sports-car fun without going to something extreme.
A turbo 2.0-liter engine is a smaller engine that uses a turbo to make more power. The turbo helps it feel stronger, especially when you need acceleration.
Body-on-frame means the car’s body is mounted on a separate frame, like many trucks. It’s often chosen for durability on rough roads, but it can feel different from more car-like SUVs.
Unibody means the body and frame are basically one integrated structure. It’s common on modern SUVs because it can be lighter and feel more like a car to drive.
The Honda Pilot is a family SUV. In this segment it’s used as an example of Honda offering a more trail-capable trim for people who want light off-roading without buying a full off-road truck.
“Low range” is an off-road gear setting that makes the vehicle move slowly but with more pulling power. It helps when you need control—like climbing a steep hill or driving through deep mud. It’s a feature you typically want for serious trails.
“4x4” means the car can drive all four wheels at the same time. That usually helps it grip better on slippery or uneven ground. It’s especially useful when you’re going off-road rather than just driving on normal roads.
The Toyota Corolla is mentioned as a regular car that might get through a muddy spot. But it’s not designed for the kind of off-road driving where you need special 4x4 features. The hosts are contrasting “getting through” with “being built for it.”
The Toyota Camry is mentioned as another normal car that can get through mud in a photo or short situation. But it’s not the same as a real off-road 4x4 built for trails. The hosts are basically saying “don’t confuse passing a puddle with real capability.”
The Ford Bronco is an SUV designed for off-road driving. The hosts mention it because the listener likes it, but they want them to test other SUVs that are built for trails in a similar way. They’re comparing how capable and how comfortable they feel on and off the road.
The Toyota 4Runner is an SUV built for off-road use, not just paved roads. It’s designed to handle trails better because it has the kind of 4x4 system that can crawl slowly when needed. The tradeoff is that it may ride differently on regular roads than more car-like SUVs.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is a rugged SUV that’s known for being able to handle tough off-road conditions. In this discussion, it’s mentioned as the reference point while they compare other 4x4s. That’s meant to show what “serious off-road” looks like.
The Ford Bronco Sport is a small SUV that’s meant to handle rougher roads than a normal commuter car. The hosts are saying it’s a good balance if you want some off-road style without going full off-road.
Auto Tempest is a website that helps you search for used cars by pulling together listings from different places. It’s mentioned here as a tool for finding good deals within a certain price range.
Off-road means driving on rough terrain instead of smooth pavement. The hosts are talking about which SUV can handle at least some dirt trails without needing a full hardcore off-road setup.
TRD is Toyota’s brand for more performance- and off-road-focused versions. When you see TRD on a Toyota SUV, it usually means it’s been set up to handle rougher driving than the standard trim.
Brand

The transcript mentions a “Rubik Kyan” as a camera vehicle, but the name doesn’t look right. It sounds like the host is talking about a specific car they used for filming, though the exact make/model is unclear.
The Chevy Colorado is a mid-size truck. Here, the host says it’s a good choice if you want to buy smarter than the Tacoma and still have enough options to set it up for camping.
The Toyota Tacoma is a midsize pickup truck. It’s often chosen by people who want something tough that can handle daily driving and occasional hauling. The podcast mentions it because it’s a strong option even if it doesn’t always get the most hype.
Four-wheel drive means the truck can send power to all four wheels. That helps it grip better on rough or slippery ground, which matters for off-road camping.
A factory lift is when the truck’s suspension is raised by the manufacturer. That gives more clearance under the truck, which helps when you’re driving off-road.
An automatic transmission shifts gears for you using hydraulic/electronic control, rather than requiring a driver to operate a clutch and gear lever. In this segment it matters because the BMW M2 CS is described as only being available with an automatic, not a manual.
A manual transmission is the “stick shift” where you choose the gears yourself and use a clutch. They’re using it to explain which M2 versions you can buy with a stick.
The M Drivers Package is an add-on option on some BMW M cars. The hosts are saying it’s part of the spec you should choose to get the performance setup they’re talking about.

The Ferrari 360 Modena is a mid-engine Ferrari known for being exciting and very “old-school” in how it drives. The hosts are talking about finding one and potentially converting it to a manual transmission.
“Hard top” means a fixed roof (as opposed to a convertible/“spider” style). For Ferraris, the hardtop vs convertible choice affects rarity, pricing, and what you can realistically find for a specific build.
A “manual swap” means changing a car so it can be driven with a manual transmission instead of an automatic. The hosts are saying it’s expensive, but it can still fit the overall budget.
“F1 style transmission” is a gearbox that shifts like a race car using paddles, but it’s not the same as a traditional manual you control with a clutch pedal. The hosts are saying you could convert that to a real manual.
The Nissan Z is a sports car that’s meant to be fun to drive. They’re saying the newer one can come with a manual transmission, which many car people prefer.
The Mazda Miata is a small, lightweight sports car that’s fun and popular for track days. They’re saying you can get one with a manual and still keep costs down.
The Lotus Emira is a sporty Lotus with a V6 engine. They’re talking about a version that comes with a manual transmission and saying it can work as both a daily car and a track car.
The Ford Excursion is a very large SUV. The podcast mentions one with a specific price and engine type, which is about what older big SUVs cost. It’s brought up because it can be a practical option if you need lots of room.
This is a specific Porsche Cayman version. It’s known for being fun to drive and for having a bigger, naturally aspirated engine than some other Cayman trims. The hosts are comparing it to other “do-it-all” exotic options based on how it fits their budget and use case.
CPO means “certified pre-owned.” It’s a used car that a dealer has checked and usually offers extra coverage or guarantees versus buying a random used car.
“Do-it-all” means a car you can use for more than one thing—like commuting and weekend fun—without it feeling too extreme or impractical. They’re comparing which exotic fits that lifestyle best.
The Lotus Evora GT is a sports car designed to feel more “track ready.” They’re saying it’s more focused and harder-core than the other Lotus they’re comparing it to.
The Lotus Elise is a lightweight, agile sports car known for its driver-focused handling. In this segment, it’s used as a reference point for how “super focused” one car can be, which is why the speaker didn’t want to duplicate that exact level of focus with another Lotus.
“Track dates” are days where you drive your car on a race track with other drivers, usually in timed sessions. It’s harder on the car than regular driving, so people pick cars that can handle it.
The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a high-performance version of the CT5 sedan. They’re bringing it up as a surprising choice that still has the right basics for driving hard and even doing track days.
“Analog feel” means the car feels more like it’s responding directly to you, not like it’s being managed by lots of electronics. Enthusiasts often prefer this kind of response.
The Lotus Esprit is a sports car model with a long history and a strong fan base. The podcast mentions it with specific styling details, like a “black wing,” to highlight what makes it recognizable. It’s brought up because it’s an iconic kind of sports car.
Front-wheel drive means the front wheels do the work of both steering and moving the car. It’s common because it can be efficient and easy to live with for daily driving.
All-wheel drive (AWD) sends power to all four wheels, improving traction when conditions are slippery or uneven. The host notes that some cross-country-style models were offered without AWD.
They’re talking about the Hyundai Ioniq 5 as another EV option the buyer wants. They also mention that its styling is a big part of why they either like it or don’t.
“Lift-over” is how high you have to lift something to get it into the trunk or cargo area. A lower lift-over makes loading easier, especially with heavy or bulky items.
They mention the Toyota Prius as something they considered before. But they say it’s not as available, which pushes the conversation toward EVs instead.
They suggest the Genesis GV60 as another electric car to consider. It’s described as having a more futuristic look and being available for relatively low prices on the used market.
Boost Mode is a driving setting that makes the electric car feel quicker for a short time. It’s like pressing a “more power” button when you want extra acceleration.
They’re asking whether the number of miles on an electric car really matters. With EVs, some parts wear slower than on gas cars, so mileage alone may not tell the whole story.
Concept
used EV value vs wear items
They’re saying electric cars can be cheaper to run because some parts wear out more slowly. Tires still wear, but brakes may last longer than you’d expect.
The Tesla Model S is an electric car that’s built for longer trips, not just short errands. Here, they’re talking about buying used ones and how mileage and battery size affect the deal.
They’re basically talking about how to pick a used electric car: look at how many miles it has, how old it is, and what it costs. They also consider things like battery size and whether the car looks newer.
A battery pack is the large set of lithium cells inside an EV that stores electrical energy. In this segment, the host notes that the 2018 Model S 75d has a “smaller battery pack,” which affects range compared with higher-capacity versions.
The Ford Edge is a crossover SUV meant for everyday use. The podcast brings it up while talking about whether certain cars feel too quirky or too plain. It’s part of the conversation about choosing a car that matches your taste.
A “low load floor” describes how low the cargo or cabin floor sits relative to the ground. That usually makes it easier to load groceries, strollers, or luggage and can improve everyday usability in an SUV.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is an electric SUV. The hosts are recommending it as the best everyday EV option they’ve been discussing, and they mention it feels better for normal driving than a higher-performance version.
The Ford Mustang is a sports car from Ford that’s been around for a long time. In the podcast, it’s used as a comparison point for what feels like a balanced choice. They also mention the Mustang Mach-E, which is the electric version.
A “stiffer suspension” makes the car bounce less, but it can also feel bumpier. The hosts are saying the GT version rides less comfortably for everyday roads.
Term
back road
A “back road” is a smaller, twistier road than a highway. The hosts mean that a sportier suspension can feel better on those kinds of roads.
The Ferrari F430 is a fancy, track-capable Ferrari with the engine in the middle of the car. Here they’re saying the car was bought with lots of miles, but the previous owners already fixed a lot of problems—there was still one big thing left: the clutch.
A clutch is the part that lets you smoothly switch gears in a manual car. If it’s worn out, shifting can feel bad and the car may not accelerate smoothly.
A “gated manual” refers to a traditional manual transmission with a shift pattern that uses a physical gate to guide the lever into the correct gear positions. It contrasts with some other manual-like setups where the shift feel and pattern can be different.
The “908” refers to a race car model. The podcast mentions it as part of a list of interesting cars, not as something being compared for daily ownership. It’s included because it’s a well-known performance racing machine.
The Lincoln Navigator is a large luxury SUV. The podcast mentions it as part of a set of cars someone considers for everyday commuting and comfort. It’s included because it’s built to be spacious and easy for longer drives.

Term
client exhaust
They mention “client exhaust” as a type of exhaust that affects how the car sounds. The point here is that the hosts think another car might sound even better.
The BMW M6 convertible is a powerful BMW that you can drive with the top down. The hosts are bringing it up as a different choice if you’d rather not have multiple Italian supercars at once.
Term
tracked
“Tracked” means driven on a race track. Track driving is tougher on the car, so saying it hasn’t been tracked suggests it likely hasn’t been abused.
This is a high-performance BMW called the M4. The host is looking at a 2015 M4 convertible and saying it still has surprisingly practical space for a fun car.
Term
pickle fork
“Pickle fork” here is just a joke name for a kind of hardware/bracket. It’s not a car performance part—more like something about how a plate is mounted.

A rear-facing car seat is the kind where the child looks toward the back of the car. In this story, it made the BMW harder to use because of how the door and seat area were shaped.
Perforated upholstery has small holes in the seat material to improve airflow. The segment uses it to describe the seat’s material type, which can affect how hot or breathable the interior feels.
Steering feel is how much the steering wheel tells you about the road. If a car has “no steering feel,” it can feel vague or disconnected even if it drives well.
Term
on-off ramp
An on-off ramp is the part of the road where you enter or leave the highway. They’re using it as an example of everyday driving where the car felt easy to handle.
The Genesis G70 is a luxury sedan that’s meant to feel sporty. The podcast says someone considered it but didn’t like the engine performance. That’s why it comes up in a discussion about matching a car’s power to what the driver wants.
This is a BMW compact SUV with all-wheel drive. The point here is that the family already owns one, so the buyer is trying to choose something different for the next car.
The X3 M40i is a stronger, sportier version of the BMW X3. The buyer passes on it mainly because the household already has an X3 and he wanted something new.
The Volvo XC60 is a luxury SUV that’s meant to be comfortable for everyday driving. The podcast mentions that someone didn’t choose it because they were worried about the cost of owning it long-term. That’s a common factor when deciding between different SUVs.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 AMG is a sportier version of the GLC SUV. The hosts talk about its strong twin-turbo engine, its quick nine-speed automatic, and the loud/entertaining AMG exhaust—plus how the seats and cabin work for a family.
A twin-turbo V6 is an engine with six cylinders where two turbochargers help it make more power. The hosts are saying this setup gives the GLC 43 AMG a lot of punch.
A nine-speed automatic is a transmission with nine gear ratios. More gears can help the car feel smoother or keep the engine in the right spot, and the host is comparing how it feels versus a BMW.
AMG exhaust is the sportier exhaust setup Mercedes-AMG puts on its performance models. It’s often tuned to sound louder and more exciting when you drive.
Seat bolstering is the padding on the sides of the seat that helps keep you from sliding around. More bolstering usually feels more “sporty” when you take corners.
The Nissan 300 ZX is an older sports car. The podcast mentions it in a personal way, implying the speaker owned one and dealt with issues or decisions about it. It’s brought up because it’s part of an enthusiast story around a fun car.
Adaptive suspension is a suspension system that adjusts itself while you drive. It tries to make the ride smoother on rough roads and more controlled when driving harder.
A solid rear axle means the two rear wheels are linked by one sturdy bar. That can change how the truck rides over bumps—sometimes it feels more stable or more noticeable, depending on the shocks and tires.
Bilstein remote reservoir shocks are upgraded shock absorbers. They’re built to handle rough driving better, so the ride stays more controlled when you hit lots of bumps.
The Porsche 911 Dakar is a special 911 made for off-road use. It’s basically a rally-inspired 911 with changes that help it deal with dirt and rough roads.
The Toyota GR 86 is a small sports car designed to be fun to drive. The podcast brings it up while joking about a “Dakar” version, meaning a more adventurous or themed take on the same basic car. It’s discussed because it’s a sporty option that can still work for everyday use.
In this context, “lifted” means raising the car’s ride height with suspension changes (often a lift kit). More ground clearance can help with snow, ruts, and rough roads, but it can also affect handling and tire wear if not set up correctly.
The Subaru BRZ is a small sporty car designed for fun driving. The hosts mention it because people have modified it—like adding a lift—to make it work better in winter or for rougher roads.
The Suzuki SX4 is a small crossover that can be set up for all-wheel drive. They’re bringing it up as an example of the kind of look and vibe they mean by a rugged, rally-style small car.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8 is the newer Corvette generation with the engine in the middle. They’re imagining an off-road version of it—lifted for more ground clearance and potentially with all-wheel drive.
Ground clearance is how much space there is between the ground and the bottom of the car. More ground clearance helps when driving on rough roads because the car is less likely to hit rocks or bumps underneath.
A livery is the specific visual design on a vehicle—typically paint, graphics, and patterns—used to create a recognizable look. The hosts mention it while talking about how certain cars use more distinctive styling to feel “high-end,” even when the underlying car is an economy model.
The Civic Si is a sportier version of the regular Honda Civic. Here, they’re saying that when it’s painted a bold color, it can feel more exciting than when it’s in dull colors.

“Rockers” are the lower panels along the side of the car, near the bottom by the doors. Changing their color (like black on a white car) can make the car look sharper and more dramatic.
Term
wheels with an actual color on them
They’re talking about how different wheel colors can make a car look better—or worse—depending on how it matches the body paint. It’s mostly a style/visual balance conversation.
The Porsche Cayman is a Porsche sports car. In this part, it’s mentioned because the owner has bright yellow wheels, and they’re debating whether bold wheel colors look good.
An accent color is a “highlight” color. In this case, they mean choosing wheel color that stands out from the paint so the wheels look intentional and make the car look better.
The color wheel is a chart that helps you see which colors look good together. They’re using it like a simple design trick: choose a wheel color that contrasts with the car’s paint so it looks more striking.
LIVE
Hello, welcome back to the podcast. Thanks for being with us. We are thrilled to have
you here. We have like three car debates. Yes, there's a lot. There's three car. They're
kind of well to her intertwined. Yeah, that's good. We're gonna be all over the map. We've
got lots of things to talk about. Hopefully we'll get to car conclusions. We'll definitely
get to questions. We'll just see how the podcast goes. Let's just dive in, see how it goes.
I want to start with a couple of bits of news that are in that kind of didn't see it coming
kind of bits of news. Okay. Okay. The first one and it's and here's the other part of
it. If there didn't see it coming. But once you hear it, you go, Well, yeah, that makes
sense. All right. Okay. And the first one to talk about is Max Verstappen. Love or hate
the guy. At this point, he's got to be one of the all time greats as just a driver. Yeah.
Okay. Do you hear about this? This sport GT car. This is a soup. Of course, it's Red Bull
livery. If you're seeing it right now, this is him running in the wet at Fuji Speedway.
Okay. They gave him a test run. Let him run it in the wet. And he proceeded to beat the
fastest lap time of the hot shoe that runs in this series in this car. Who is this person?
You know, it reminds me of when Sebastian Loeb, whatever they put Sebastian Loeb in,
he just beat everybody. Max is starting to be that thing. I mean, I feel like he's come
into his own in Formula one, but I'm actually intrigued by what this guy's next chapter
is because I think he's going to be this just traveling helmet that just goes around and
just destroys lap times and then leaves. I think you're right. And I've seen him make
noises in interviews for Formula one saying he might be done. He might retire. Yes. And he's
looking for the next thing. So he's trying out the 24 hours of Nurburgring. Yes. He's trying this
out. It wouldn't shock me to see him trying a bunch of other different series. And you're right.
Maybe he's a traveling helmet. Maybe he decides on a different series and goes and dominates that
and then dominates. Maybe maybe it's the triple crown. Many drivers have done the triple crown
throughout the years. And that is a huge, huge deal. I mean, Mario Andretti was the last American
driver to do that. So there's options for him. But it also begs the question, what happens to
Formula one when Max leaves? Because I don't think he's around as long as a guy like Lewis
Hamilton or Alonzo is. No, no, no, no. I think I think he's going to get over it sooner rather
than later. Something else. It's fascinating. He keeps jumping into other cars, throwing down
and like walking away. Like, okay, so that's how that's done. And this was in the wet. If you see
the in car of this, you're just like, what are you doing? It's very impressive. The other one in
the category of, well, yeah, that makes sense is Brembo's news. You see this, their first fully
electric braking system is headed to market. This is removing hydraulic fluid from braking. The
Alfa Romeo quadrifoglio that I like so much. My problem with it is it has electronic brake
feel. The C8 has electronic brakes, which I actually like in the C8 much more than doing
the quadrifoglio. But we're getting this place, all the EVs are this way where what you're pressing
on on the brake pedal is it's taking your information under advisement and running it
through the computer your brain and talking to the brakes. But the brakes to this point have
still been hydraulically fired. There's fluid being pressurized to push the brake pads.
But it doesn't have to be that way. And so Brembo is have it has its first and they haven't said
which car but they've had their first actual two market application of four wheel brakes that are
pushed electronically only. That means that each of the four brakes individually can apply
a different amount of brake pressure based on speeds. Talk about torque vectoring with your
brakes. That's interesting. Each of the four brakes can respond differently. That's a new
setting on the dot. Totally. Sport sport plus sport. I don't know. Try the brakes for
infinity braking. I don't know what it is. There you go. AI. AI sport. That's terrifying. It knows
where I am. It knows that I have to fill with high temp electrons for track use. High temp
electrons. No that charger is not high enough. That's really good. It just knows where I am
and knows what corner because it will have GPS. Of course it will. So it knows what track I'm on
and knows what corner I'm on. I'm coming up to and it will. Yeah. What kind of programming would
you like to do? Totally. Yes. You're speaking already to both sides of this. I'm intrigued by
this. Here's the good side. I read this thought one less thing to leak. I really didn't think that
I was like one less thing that could just leak. Okay. And you don't have to worry about oh god
I've got air in the brake lines. All of that's gone. True. Which is cool. But I do think something
is lost by not putting your foot on the pedal and feeling the pressure every car driven with
electronic brakes. I feel like there is a little bit of something lost. And when they're at their
best is when you are driving your hardest and you're nailing the brakes. Then they're awesome.
But it's that modulation thing where we brush the brakes. I feel like that's where to this point
in my experience. I've struggled with that brake interaction. Sure. Now we're taking away all of
the actual pressure. Is this going to feel digital? Are we going to adapt? Is it going to not matter?
Or is the fact that you can have individual four wheel braking? Is that such a boon that we don't
care? I don't know. I'm asking. That's huge. Yeah. Fascinating. So very interesting. Yeah.
Both in the category of I should have seen this coming. But no hydraulic fluid, no leaky brakes
that's amazing. Are coming from Brembo. And the ability to program each caliper and program
per settings of the car. Program it for rain, for snow, for sunshine. For the fact that you're
applying this much power and this much cornering right now while you happen to touch the brakes.
Will it do the go-kart thing or if you press the brake and the gas pedal it goes please stop?
Yes, it will. It probably will. Even more. Stop it now. And a last note. Alex Zinardi,
he was a champion driver in championship auto racing teams F3, F1, WTCC, DTM and the 24 hours of
Daytona he recently passed. He was a fierce Paralympic competitor and athlete and a hand
cycling competitor. Marathons, triathlons, endurance and Ironman events and we are saddened to hear
of his passing. So amazing driver, amazing athlete. I always liked his ads for Honda. Drive a car with
no doors. I always appreciated that. And he seemed like an amazing person that was just,
he made the positive out of every situation. Pretty crazy. For sure. Rest in peace.

I know you're not surprised to hear that we have many hooked on driving track events coming up.
If you've ever thought about getting on track I really want to put this forward.
Your car that you use unless it's a big minivan or huge SUV just bring that. Just bring the car
you have because that's the best thing to be in as a beginner and you're probably not going to go
through brakes or tires on day one. You're going to need the minivan later too. Yeah the minivan
is for other uses. Yeah just use it for the doors and the grocery run and the kids but not for the
tracking. But anyway we've got a lot of great adventures coming up. We've got our Laguna
Seca adventure that is actually happening later this week the week that you hear this.
We will be at Laguna Seca May 16th and Sunday May 17th. We'll be attending with our cars. There's
cars and coffee going on on Saturday. That is on the back end of our Laguna Seca Monterey
PCH adventure that we're doing. Coming up to Laguna Seca afterwards. It's going to be so
fantastic. The miles on the cars we're getting out. I'm just excited to be back in the Amira for
some road trip. Yeah Shenandoah circuit is happening with our northeast guys. That's the
exact same week in this coming weekend the 16th and 17th. Shenandoah is where we first drove the
GR Supra. That was where the press launch was at and it's the shorter track at Summit Point
in West Virginia and so we like that track a lot. Yeah a lot of ups and downs a lot of short
fast yeah quite quite an excellent track and quite technical but very satisfying. So that's
happening there for sure. Our Pacific Northwest region is doing a really cool event. We thought
we're going to attend but we can't now because we're just too busy. It's Saturday May 23rd and
Sunday May 24th. They are going to have a fantastic event. They're running the circuit
one direction on Saturday and the other direction on Sunday. So cool and everything we hear that's
on my shortlist of tracks I want to visit. So I'm very excited about that Oregon Raceway Park.
Of course we are at COTA May 30th and the 31st in Austin Texas. That is going to be a monster
event with a live podcast on that evening of May 30th and I also want to mention if you are in
the northeast right now and you do not have locked in July 4th plans I've got them. Yes
You need to go to Watkins Glen. Star Stripes and Speed that is our northeast region's huge event
for July 4th. It's a track day yes for multiple days. There's also camping and fireworks and
drifting and concert and I'm forgetting there's a car show. There's a dyno test. There's an exhaust
test. There's a car show. I'm still forgetting. There's a drag race. Yeah it's huge. It's a massive
event. Yes you've got to come to this if you're again in the northeast everything can be found
at hookedondriving.com. Three great debates coming at you. The first one is from Ashreet who writes
to us because he's got a crossroads. He's at a crossroads with his garage. His journey started
with cars half a world away in India. He writes fueled by the cinematic spectacle of Fast and
Furious. I mean that's where pretty much every yeah there's a whole generation of folks that
like Fast and Furious and then here's the other thing. I also feel like by the time we reached
Space Fiero all the folks that were inspired by Fast and Furious one were like okay and we're done.
I'm grown up. We're done. I'm sorry I'm now an adult. Stop kidding around. Yeah anyway. Ashreet
also says he spent countless hours in the digital worlds of need for speed underground and most
wanted. Those are really cool actually. Yeah a lot of fun. I mean you and I it was GT2. Yes well
but countless hours of those as well underground. Yeah I played those for sure. He went straight to
the Americana dream when he finally moved to the U.S. he bought a 2017 Dodge Challenger
RT Scat Pack with a manual transmission. That is I would like an American car. You did it very
well. Good job. But since then the stable has grown and changed. He moved into a 2022 BMW M3
competition and for a year even lived with his brother's 2022 Dodge Charger Hellcat Red Eye
Jailbreak. All the words. Can we add another word or two. I don't know what it is but that's very
good yeah. When his wife decided to learn to drive they added a 2014 Mini Cooper S to the mix. Love
it. But a disconnect has now formed. Ashreet and his wife love road trips and car camping on
Bureau of Land Management land because neither of their current cars can handle unpaved uncertain
roads they always end up in rental SUVs. So they look at all the photos of their favorite remote
adventures and all the cars in the frame are dull forgettable rentals. A car they don't own don't
like but it worked for the trip. I see it I get it. They're not part of the memory and they don't
follow them to the next chapter. Interesting okay yeah I see it. At the same time Ashreet's
relationship with the M3 has cooled while it's immensely capable on track he writes where he
goes three to four times a year. Ashreet hopefully you have found hooked on driving come to one of
our track days. Yeah we hope you do. It feels numb and soulless compared to the quirks of his
old Challenger and the Mini. Challenger and Mini opposite ends slide the slider what kind of
challenge do you want. But they both are very involving and quirky and the M3 is just dialed
and it makes it kind of boring on the street yeah. He never finds himself looking back at it
after he parks it it's black so that needs to change. Ashreet and his wife love vibrant bright
colors they want to look back at their cars and smile. You want to look back at your car.
Yes it's what we want. You know what I forgot something I forgot my charge cable and
I don't need to get it right now but I'm going back to the car anyway here we go.
They're ready to start fresh. Love it. The goal is to sell the M3 and the Mini to create a two car
solution. First is the Adventure SUV. They would like this to be new. They like the looks of the
Bronco Sport Badlands seems to be a capable companion that can actually be had in a standout
color and the budget for this first category is $50,000. It's very good. I like it. The engagement
sports car is the second category. Ashreet is looking for something new or relatively new.
He is considered Cayman GTS 4.0 but he knows you'll have to look at the used market for that
and they're selling over MSRP and so he finds that a hard pill to swallow especially with a new
generation on the horizon but the horizon is I don't think I can see the horizon. I think it's
more than a couple years but we'll see. It depends on how quickly Porsche wants to
how quick they pivot. Yes get after it. Ashreet is 5 foot 10 170 pounds. He has three non-negotiables
manual transmission bucket seats and rock solid fundamentals. He said those base M3 seats can't
hold him in place on track. He needs the reliable engine cooling and brakes the M3 provided but
with the sole and fizz that the BMW was missing. Now it's been a while since we've had a budget
this high and this is notable so $130,000 for the sports car budget so we've got $180,000 for
both or like $18,000 $10,000 cars. We're not shopping that way no no no we're gonna actually
we're gonna spend these budgets. I like it. Was it Roddy the Aston Martin the Todd wants?
There you go. I could buy a plenty. A couple GT86s. $180,000 I would have I don't know where I'd
put them all. There'd be a lot of cheap stuff bought for the heck of it. What? What are we doing?
More would be littered with cars most of which ran yes ran when parked all of them yes anyway. Exactly.
I am starting Ashreet with your Adventure SUV and the consideration here is platform because
you want something that you can go car camping you want a little bit of off-roading and only you
can answer this question and that is how far are you going up the trail? Agreed. Is it just dirt
are you going to conquer some rocks are you gonna get into a little bit more serious off-roading
and I like that you love the Bronco Sport Badlands that is the four-cylinder 250 horsepower out of
the turbo two-liter and it's got good power good torque and you're right it is good looking. Here
it is in a nice blue Bronco Sport Badlands doing its thing cruising around on some dirt but that's
just it this is still an SUV that is not body on frame. True. This is still unibody and there's
many out there from many manufacturers and they're just starting to taste this off-road market
whereas obviously there's trucks and SUVs that are body on the frame but the example is the
Bronco Sport Badlands it's not the full Bronco. Honda is doing this with the pilot so the trail
sport trim are doing the same thing but the problem with these I mean Subaru's entire website well
most of the website is full of these chock kinds of right you're right yes these
kind of photos this kind of approach you're 100% correct yes choose your brand Mazda's got a few
but none of these are as capable as a body on frame a true 4x4 something with low range
better ground clearance and only you can answer that question it's a great question though you're
far are you and your wife gonna go if you get this and you think oh if only we had
something a little bit better to to get us farther up the trail or you know we want to try a different
kind of a trail and not just I mean a Corolla could splash through the mud a Camry could do
in that shot yes so it's I mean it looks rugged and and outdoors-ish but old sedans that are you
20 years old could splash through the mud and and they'd get you know dirty and damaged a little
bit but they could do this the photo that you're showing it is clear that that mud puddle is about
a half inch I mean they've hit it spectacularly but you're right you could have done anything
I mean you've got to determine your future needs but if you look at the Toyota portfolio and again
I like that you love the the Bronco but I want you to go drive others and especially the body on
frame now the ride changes the ride quality changes dramatically but this category you're
looking at all-wheel drive and nothing has low range or true 4x4 true yeah so might I throw my
hat in the ring for a four-runner for you this was $60,600 that's what I paid so there are slightly
lower trim levels this isn't the off-road premium I wanted at least off-road off-road premium
somewhere in there and this is endlessly capable it's serious off-road we've done a serious off-road
bash with with two forerunners new and old alongside a Land Cruiser so the forerunner
especially the new one was driving that was the reason that I bought this one yeah we were very
impressed with it and yours continues to impressive it's very good yeah I want you to drive the forerunner
I want you to drive others that are again body on frame 4x4 and if you think that having that
capability is something you're going to want that's a consideration but also you have to weigh that
against ride quality for on-road too so yes that's good and easily spend 50 grand here do you want
to talk about SUVs before I switch to sports cars you know let's do that I'll hop in here real quick
with SUVs because I didn't drift too far from where you were so I'll jump in here as well the
street let's see I'm going to show you the Ford page here for the Bronco Sport because you're
right with your $50,000 you have options you can go anywhere you want on this site I mean here's
the crazy thing I actually looked on Auto Tempest dot com slash every day I looked at the used ones
20 25 grand you can get a really nice kind of loaded out few year old used one you guys are
shopping new 50 grand is your is your price point you could get any one of these you want you could
go on the Ford site right now and build one of these and get it exactly to your spec and your
crazy color and you could be very happy if to exactly Paul's point it's enough if it's this
light off-roading with some style it is actually kind of hard to beat the Bronco Sport that's a
but really it's a road vehicle and it has some good off-road style this is way up there and I
think you're in the right place but I'm I am wondering about the if we're going to lean in
this area should we go further and it did lead me to and I'm showing the page for it the forerunner
and I'm showing you the bottom four trims here from the SR5 base starts at 42 grand there she is
to the TRD sport like Paul has that is 53 9 to start before extras and taxes and you have the
off-road so but I've got the SR5 the sport the off-road and the TRD sport so there's a range
between 42 grand to start and 54 grand to start how do you want to spec it out here and Paul is
having a lot of fun with his we have a video coming actually this week that is about the
updates to Paul's forerunner we actually found a really cool trail to film on I'm very excited
about those videos really awesome the real deal yeah it's very cool and I got to use the Rubik
Kyan as a camera vehicle which is also really fun but anyway you fell back in love with it I had a
great time part of the reason I love the Rubik Kyan is because it's not worth anything I'm just
like sure that gotta scrape down the side who cares I came it was awful anyway yeah but that's okay
so you could get one of these forerunners and go anywhere yeah there's so many trims how do you
want to spec it and some decent colors as well yeah so I do like that so that is a real option but
then I thought of one that I feel like gets overlooked okay and that is how far down off-road
trucking do you want to go because what about an actual truck oh with a camper back okay and I went
to the Chevy Colorado this gets overlooked this is a very good truck yeah and I feel like it's
almost always this the runner up in thinking behind the Tacoma which gets all the press yeah
you can find deals on Colorado's whereas the Tacoma they're gonna only talk to if you really
want to spend full money Colorado's have got some some deals on the table lots of trims
lots of capability so what's your need because there's a part of me that thinks you could go full
truck get a camper back to your spec and I'm not talking the full camper back you need to live in
I'm just talking about what's the camper back that allows you to spec it for gear that's going to get
messy you know what I mean inflatable mattress whatever whatever just all your gear let's camp
let's camp let's plan on it getting messy let's plan on it being off-road why not just get a pickup
I think the Colorado is a great option here that gets overlooked a lot because the Tacoma gets the
press and is very good mm-hmm so what about a Colorado and I'm showing kind of middle trim here
the trail boss full four-wheel drive starting at 43 grand and going up and this has this is the first
one of the lineup that actually has their two inch factory lift so it does have 18 inch
rim 32 inch tires this is starting off hardcore right out of the box at 42 grand to start yeah I
think it's a real consideration so see what you think of that because I agree the big question
here is how far are we going and we don't know the future need to because that's where they're at
now and if they want to explore a little bit more they want to do a few more things a shreets
you've got a lot of choices plus you can do the rooftop tent thing especially on the top of the
forerunner Cali raised LED that's where I got the accessories for mine so more on that in the video
coming but yeah you've got a lot of great options there let's move to the sports car with a 130
thousand dollar budget mm-hmm you're already BMW guy said you've got an m3 the seats don't hold you
and you want something as robust on track for brakes and cooling and you want something
fizzy okay so the m3 is not quite doing it I mean I immediately jumped to the m2 cs the cs has
different suspension and it has a lot more power 523 horsepower 479 pound feet of torque
but the problem is the cs is only available with an automatic transmission cannot buy it with a
manual yeah I do want to show you those seats that I want you to buy because they're so freaking
amazing seats they're obnoxiously expensive but they are great seats so good yeah so the good news
is a shreet you can buy these seats in the regular m2 which is still not a slouchy car true yes the
manual transmission version of that make sure to get the m drivers package and you've got 473 horsepower
406 pound feet of torque and you can spend about half of your 130 thousand dollar budget
to get one of these and you can still again get the cool seats get a manual transmission in a
regular m2 if we're going to finish out the m2 discussion you can go backwards one generation
to the f87 m2 you can get the manual in the cs there you've got the bucket seats here they're
not the carbon buckets but these are still also very very good and very comfortable quite supportive
and I think you'd like these seats quite a lot okay now that we've gotten all the m2s out of our
way and bmw's and you said they might not are you going give you the fizz I went straight to your car
did you really the mirror okay all right that's a cool photo by the way you were showing the photo
this is the iconic coda photo that you want of your car and chance happened to nail getting this
photo of me there is one cut out at circuit of the america's it allows you to get this crazy
downhill shot with the coda tower in the background and I think the world's largest
texas flag it's and this photo is me in my amirah last year I'm driving my son in the passenger
seat that is I didn't tell I love this photo man that this was the photo I wanted and I also
didn't know how much I needed this photo and that he starts dropping photos in my car and I was like
you got like the definitive one it is a very cool pick this is awesome so yeah Todd in his amirah
with his son on track at coda from last year so you can expect more of this at coda this year
very fun since you track a street three to four times a year so here is your track car it's brilliant
as a gt car it's very comfortable as a cruiser and Todd just gets in his and drives around town and
does errands and goes and picks up dinner and whatever you do I do all of the above and still
take it cross country and still track it yes so it's great amirah has got to be on your list for
I don't care I mean I know you want the manual v6 supercharged manual but at least yeah drive
all the amirahs try everything I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised it does have the fizz
you're looking for also what has the fizz is the Evora GT the seats are even better in this car
they are seats are what you're looking for manual transmission I mean it's the amirah is the spawn
of this car very directly related to the Evora GT and is something we love there's
more refinement on the amirah but the GT maybe that raw character something that you're looking for
so I highly suggest driving that but I do have a wild card for you okay $130,000 budget track three
to four times a year you want something quite special if you haven't by now caught on to our
triple car mid-engine $100,000 comparison from last year yep last year ago you need to watch that
because we reviewed the Acura NSX and Todd's Amirah and a Ferrari I went shopping for Ferraris
I just wanted an excuse to go shop for 360 Modnes sure many of them as street are spiders yes
but I did find you one check this out hard top it's got a little bit higher miles for Ferrari
but for normal cars 42,000 miles is not that bad and it's only $90,000 so imagine I found you Ferrari
it's got the fizz it is the manual you could find any spider or any of these that are the old
F1 style transmission and do the conversion it'll cost you $20,000 to $30,000 for the conversion
because you're going to want to do all the other stuff while you're in there yeah for sure but
it will still be well under your budget those are about you know you buy the car for 90 and
you spend 20 to 30 doing the manual swap yeah but here's one manual transmission hard top
and let's say over the next I don't know how long you have this three to five years you spend
$20,000 on maintenance okay it's still under your budget and then you own a Ferrari and you
have the driving fizz I fell in love with this car you really did like it yeah you can track it you
could I mean if you're gonna track it and drive it all the time might as well get a little bit
higher mileage one and sure yeah drive it the only issue is he's gonna have to find a Ferrari
color I mean you found a really good deal on one that happens to be silver and it is hard to find
the ones that are hard top but he's gonna have to find a color you will have to find a color or
you could wrap it you could pick a color and wrap it and then you know suddenly you're a youtuber
and you're gonna have to make videos you trip when you have fell and became a youtuber purple
360 or whatever you're gonna do with it but the 360 otherwise you could with that kind of budget
you could get the new Nismo Z comes in manual the GR Supra comes in manual and have money left over
for an ND3 Miata in manual that you can just make a track car still spend less you're right fair
point fair point yeah but an opportunity with your budget to have a Ferrari so imagine you're
rocking a four-runner a Ferrari like that's a that is a good garage a four-runner on a Ferrari is
a really good one too all right that's really really good okay I like it you've done very very well
many of you will not be surprised that Paul and I overlap some we'd never talk about these these
car debates before the podcast which is what's so funny and it is amazing when we align
I'm going to overlap some things that Paul's already talked about so I want to also talk about
a few things he didn't because I think I think there's a bit of tough love and I'm going to put
my put a stake in the ground here that might not be something everybody agrees with but let's start
here $130,000 Paul's already mentioned it but I had to show it to you in a green they should have
offered when when they first sold the car the updated green that is offered on the Lotus Amira
that is so pretty it's such a good green it's almost a Lamborghini green but it's a little
more sophisticated isn't that the Lotus is a little bit more sophisticated classic the only thing I
don't like about this one I'm showing on screen is it has the black pack roof and I think this car
looks better when the when the roof is body color yeah but it has this new green this is a v6 manual
actually offered in our recent Lotus Salt Lake City I had my car in for some service because our
big road trip and I was down there this week you were with me they had literally every color on
in in the catalog they had one of every color so here's this I'll show that photo I took a quick
photo I'll show that photo from from our excursion yes so this is $126,000 right now this is the v6
manual this needs to be on your consideration list because it works as a daily Paul already talked
about it works as a daily but it also is a track car I actually don't remember if this one has got
the sport suspension or not if you are thinking about tracking sport suspension yes I was thinking
about using this car in all conditions so I went touring and I couldn't be happier it's not a refined
sharp track car but it does everything yeah so great awesome does everything well it does very
well so that is the thing I think the the Amira's got to be considered but while we're talking 130
grand the street you thought up and you brought up a great option which is the Cayman 718 the
gts4o yeah and I want to stop on this car real quick because I have one I found 646 miles on a
200 in 2025 this is a cpo 646 miles in gray unfortunately but it is manual transmission
it is the gts4o they're wanting 132,500 so it's pretty much right on top of that brand new Amira
this is the gts4o here is my tough love moment okay the way to buy a Cayman that is better than the
Amira is the gt4 you have to step up to your car which is going to be 10 or grand more or so than
they're even wanting for this gts4o and I kind of can't believe this but I started thinking about the
gts4o which we've driven we actually drove it originally the first time we drove the Amira was
against the gts4o and our c8 that's right I prefer the Amira I obviously bought an Amira I prefer the
Amira if the c8 came in manual it would be a real contender for you but it does not it might
it might let's see interesting thing about the gts4o is we've done three or four people this is
anecdotal but three or four people that have owned them and I say owned past tense yeah I'm not sure
what it is about this car but people seek it lust after it buy it and then sell it in a couple of
years everyone we have known personally with one no longer has it which I find very interesting
and I think if you're trying to buy a do-it-all exotic sports car the Amira does it better
but if you're trying to buy a car where fizz is out front in the Cayman lineup gt4 does it better
okay yep but the gt4 is more sacrificial for all of the other things I have a car for that I call it
my lease so anyway but but if we're talking like focus the better Cayman is the gt4o spend the
extra money get above your budget 130 which is crazy get up into gt4 land and now you've outdone
the Amira otherwise yeah otherwise it's because they're forbidden for granted I happen to find
one that was in the price point you can probably find one cheaper but still I can't believe they're
this much either crazy so let's move on shall we Paul talked about the m2 I just want to point out
the fact that the current m2 you can get for 70 grand yeah spend half it's crazy 5000 miles on this
one from 2024 unfortunately I just don't find this car attractive but it cannot be denied in
performance yes the problem is I don't know if you're going to find the fizz in this car it's
starting to lean and I mentioned at the time when we first drove it this m2 is starting to lean
GTR-ish where it doesn't need you and you're at a little bit of a distance but you're wowed by
what it can do so I don't know where that line is for you which leads me back to the prior m2
this is a competition model which is excellent for 46 grand with 59 000 miles on it this is a
competition unfortunately it's like an off-white color and I don't love that but this is a great car
look like a manual makes me think actually this one might not be but it makes me think he could
find this generation CS in his budget and then you really have something yeah because this generation
CS is awesome yep but I wanted to bring up both those versions of the m2 now let's talk about
wild cards one of which Paul's already talked about and that is the Evora GT base you want a color
I found bright yellow my friend that is this is a nuclear 2021 fantastic solar yellow $90 000
okay let me let me separate it out as an owner here the Evora GT is a sharper better track car
than my Amira it's a sharper better track car than the Amira with a sword suspension I'm putting
it out there it is this is the better track car this is the sharper car but again I have a sharp car
a car that is super focused in my Elise I didn't need to duplicate that I needed to get away from
that a little bit which is why the Amira is perfect so if you're looking for more focus
this is the more focused version in the Evora GT and it's less than the new Amira
but it is also harder core than the new Amira so which works for you and then the other one
where I thought okay if we're going to be in wild card territory you want it to be good fundamentals
you want it to be a good engine reliable manual transmission you want to use it for track dates
but also for other stuff you have a history of BMWs my friend CT5 black wing
it comes in colors and it comes in manual manual blue yellow this fun green this is out there for
$100,000 loaded up you'll be at 130 oh six speed manual this is I can't believe I'm going to say
this this is what you want your BMW to feel like yeah that's where we're at now the slightly more
analog feel that BMWs used to be haloed for yeah the five the threes and the fives that's what
Cadillac is building right now with the black wings so if you want to lean toward usability like
your BMW the answer is black wing and I'm landing there that's fantastic Esprit thank you for writing

Steve G is in Puget Sound Washington Steve my sister and brother-in-law went to University of
Puget Sound so I know the area they know it very well he writes to us because his family moved to
the Puget Sound area but due to housing costs they had to buy a home further from friends family
and occasional business than they wanted they own a 2012 Volvo XC73.2 in front-wheel drive
yes there was a generation of cross-country models that were available without all-wheel drive he says
ask me how I found out I get the sense you bought this car they went wait front-wheel
drive when did that happen anyway yeah comfortable reliable without just over 101,000 miles smooth
quiet straight six noises and the car is efficient easy 28 to 32mpg on the highway at 70 to 75 miles
an hour that's impressive that's really good yeah they've got to make a long drive two to four times
per week about 120 miles round trip to get to town and then the driving around the town
so 130 to 150 miles per round trip okay it's a 30 to 35 dollar cost to get there several times per
week fuel maintenance and consumables. Steve has gently approached his secretary of finance because
the Volvo's hers about maybe getting an electric car I see it I definitely do cut that round trip
cost closer to five bucks they're about even on their loan in the Volvo right now so no equity
to be found there limited budget of high teens to a Paul limiter of $20,000 he's wondering is there
any idea better than an ID for right now he would love an EV6 he would love the Ioniq 5 he said he
hears they're good but he doesn't love cars designed with a speed square and a pair of scissors
that is the Ioniq 5 description for sure yeah a low load floor is priority due to heavy things
his petite wife needs to load in and out it's got to be a wagon form factor she is allergic to
minivans the lift over in the hatch has to be low comforts priority along with reliability
she's not an enthusiastic driver but apparently she speeds a lot and collects speeding tickets
like movie ticket stops she's just like got another one okay all right for these kind of dollars
what else should they be looking at on the used EV market Prius bees might have a consideration a
few years ago but they're hard to find so if we put together a strong enough pitch he's going to
be able to extricate her from the Volvo but it's kind of a one-time shot to convince her you've
got some driving homework of course that's part of the recipe here but he's kind of got a one-time
shot here so what I like about this Steve is I think you've nailed it the EV is the answer for this
I think so too just get an EV plug it into your garage at night it's perfect for everything you
wanted it's gonna be ideal I know the styling of the EV6 and the Ioniq 5 might be a little off
pudding but did you know on the very same platform designed by Genesis in a completely
different form factor completely different styling that might appeal is the gv60 with boost mode
especially in the performance the ISR on shifter it's got all the familiar shapes in
the hot dog shapes and so it looks futuristic but you know what look how inexpensive these are
Steve I know you already knew from the Kia and the Hyundai but 73,000 miles for 24 grand this is
just a lot of car for your budget yep I found many of them gv60 performances here's 23,000
dollars for 94,000 miles and you're putting so many miles on and especially buying a used EV
does it matter does the mileage on an EV matter that might be a topic Tuesday but
does anybody care if they're just running and they go and you change the tires and the brakes and
you don't even have to do the brakes you just go through tires yep you're gonna row through tires
but otherwise consumable wise they're really low yeah so I think a used EV is the answer but I do
think there's many choices better than the id4 because even these I believe the gv60 has better
range used than a used id4 so I also didn't really love how the id4 drove and I don't really love
how they look so that's my personal opinion but I think you should be seriously looking at gv60s
look Steve how many Audi e-tron gts you can buy they're not quite in your budget but I just can't
let this go I'm beating my head against the wall after discovering how cheap they're down to 30
grand 30 grand I mean again 102,000 miles but who cares yeah does anybody care about the mileage
on these things this was a hundred and what 20 hundred and 50 thousand dollar car every bit of
that new every bit of that yes for 30 grand 30 grand yes you're looking at four-year-old cars that
are 30 grand here's the first one 2022 with prestige trim for 30 grand 102,000 miles great
looking blue and the cool thing about this is it's a hatch with a low load floor that's a fair point
I hadn't thought about the fact that you've kind of worked the form factor out in even though you
left suvs I see where you are okay I am all about this I know it's 10 grand more than your budget
but maybe worth a drive just to say okay here it is a little bit more expensive nobody's looking
at mileage you know people are just commuting in these you know they're just putting the miles on
and just sitting there and enjoying so the interiors are fine if we're going to look at used EVs
it seems like Tesla's especially Model S's from 10 to 12 years ago are now the Miata of the the EV
industry it's an interesting equation I see that yeah that I cannot believe what you're showing
us right now I just want to show you this for reference this is where I started so we've got
a 2014 Tesla Model S base for just over 10k so call it 10 grand with 221,000 miles on it
but both of those numbers are amazing the fact that it's 221,000 miles is impressive but also
the fact that you can buy this car for 10,000 dollars and it's probably just going to keep going
yes as a yeah commuter doing this distance they're talking about yes uh-huh and here's that low load
floor of the back of the Tesla Model S without the jump seat I don't know what this schmutz in
the interior is but whatever it's got 221,000 miles I'm sure there's something that's carried
a few things it's something got on the back it looks a little chalky but it's not clearly it's
not getting vacuumed up yeah whatever in there yes but pretty low floor here and again that hatch
form factor look we can continue to choose and look at used Model S's here's a 2013 a lot fewer
miles 38,000 miles for 183 so this one is practically undriven comparatively yes 18 and
still under your budget 13 years old what did they not do with this it's sat this this clearly
did like the I have a 10 mile round trip commute yes that's what this did you're right or maybe it
didn't sit but it was just so short I think that's what it was it was like this was my little runabout
and maybe the other one was like a ride share driver who knows but either way I love the reference
here the the kind of bookends you've got is great this amazing I kept going 2018 Model S 75d so range
is a little bit less smaller battery pack but 67,000 miles for 18 grand but you get the new
styling so that newly updated Model S styling so it looks pretty modern and fresh new it doesn't
look old at all and you know we love these things and this will just keep going 67,000 miles barely
broken in yeah that'll go for a long time that's good stuff I really like it so you've got choices
in your EVs and I think you should embrace it and I think you've got driving to do and even though
we can make the argument and talk about how similarly EVs drive I think these will drive
different enough that you will have a winner for you guys it's good stuff Steve I've got a couple
others for you and I'm going to start with something you brought up and then walked away from and I'm
not entirely sure why you said you really like the look of the EV6 you even describe it in brackets
as beautiful okay so get an EV6 I think these are sweet here it is with 15,500 that's what I'm talking
about 15,500 with 50,000 miles on it why not why not and I'm bringing it up as just a reference
these are here from this price to 15 grand to around 30 which used one would you like yeah you
thought that the Kia EV6 was beautiful but the Ioniq 5 was a little too quirky and straight
edge for you well if you like this here's the thing I will say to you the ID4 is not good enough
it's not we drove it in a comparison years ago and it's just it's not good enough and this EV6
is good enough and you like the look of it this is a low load floor small SUV I think this is a
major contender you brought it up and then kind of like glanced against it and walked away and I'm
like 15,500 right involved right off of that seriously why not buy this one right here it's a nice red
it's gorgeous yeah I can't see a single reason not to buy this I brought that up but then I
there's one you overlooked I think you really need to take a serious look at you and your wife
there were pages of them on autotempus.com slash every day I've picked out one as a middle of the
road reference and that is the Mustang Mach E oh that's good this is the answer yes and that's
what we put with the ID4 and the Tesla Model Y at the time was an early Mustang Mach E these are
out there this one I'm showing right here is $21,700 and 61,000 miles okay fine it's gonna be great
these have a SUV shape of course there's some Mustang-esque styling we can keep debating that if
we'd like but it does have a pretty low load floor I like the interface and here's the crazy thing
I like this one better than the GT the GT had a stiffer suspension and was less satisfying for
normal life I agree it was the kind of thing where if you had a really smooth road and you really
wanted to hustle this thing on a back road that's the only time I need the GT but every other time
it's worse it's worse I agree so this is a 2021 Mustang Mach E premium showing $21,000 right now
and that is kind of like the middle of what I found all plummeted they've all plummeted so
go get yourself I think this is the answer get yourself a Mustang Mach E plug it in at night
and you're done yeah Matthew M writes to us from episode 864 asking what is he about to do
I love when things are titled like that I'm about to do something
yes irrational matchbox Matt is what we call him he grew up poor and the love of cars came
from cheap toys and matchbox cars he recently took the plunge to get his dream car which is a
Ferrari as a kid he wanted a 308 a friend with a helicopter and to live in Hawaii I wonder why
yes but we all also wanted to actually have the the charisma of Tom Selleck and that didn't happen
either so anyway moving on Matt fell hard for the Testerosa and from that point on Ferrari
became the dream car and his favorite f1 team okay I like it he recently bought a Ferrari f430 with
high mileage for a Ferrari 60,000 miles that is high for a Ferrari get it the last two owners put a
ton of maintenance into the car and the car looks more like a 20,000 mile car has all the pain points
addressed except it needed a clutch okay it's a client exhaust and because he got such a good deal
with a very well taken care of f430 it always needed a clutch and so he's having the gated
manual swap done oh that's interesting okay got it by the time this email reaches us everything
should be done Matt you should have the car he's got the gated manual f430 so alongside that is a
2023 Lincoln Aviator for his long commute to work 08 Porsche Boxster S and this and this Ferrari
he's also engaged to his new and very upgraded VP of fiscal shenanigans congratulations Matthew
so you're still at that point of life where VP of fiscal shenanigans says yeah let's do that
sure we should try that we got it let's do it and at some point they'll be a tightening down I'm
just going to give you the progression here at some point they'll be a tightening down and then
later on in life you're going to be like you know we only live once and that they're going to lose
it all up again that's how that's good progression is going to go but congratulations guys it's
gonna be fun yeah his fiance has a 2026 infinity qx 60 he says yes infinity sold a car this year
I read that sentence it went back and went that is a 2026 model isn't it that's like a current
infinity that dealer was open and had cars to sell hey it's sold the car okay cool all right
made their day did you get a handwritten thank you note from probably maybe from the CEO of
thank you for purchasing a car this month anyway yeah moving on she also has a 2020 2012
Volkswagen EOS hardtop convertible I did not see that coming by the way I didn't know any of those
were still on the road honestly didn't either I don't see those too many of those so she wants
to downsize back to four cars not go up to five which is a fair point and if he learned anything
from his first wife he means dictator of no fun it is important to listen to car feedback that
Matty's words not ours all right okay all right moving on what did they buy if they trade in the
EOS in the Boxster for a four-seater top down fun experience he is trying to be as cost neutral
as possible for this transaction so like 25 30 000 dollars her kiddos are ages nine and seven
and he wants all four of them to be able to cruise in style and have some fun so we're reviewing
manual Ferrari staying in the garage I have photos of this aviator is staying yes so we have the
SUV solved as well here is the Ferrari that Matthew just acquired spectacular in looks like in the
shop getting about to get the the gated manual because this is prior doesn't have the manual
installed yet but it's classic Ferrari red with the the Carmel interior I mean that's that's exactly
that is a pretty shot that's the car the car you envision right there when you say Ferrari you
think a car like that yeah so he has a two-seat convertible manual transmission Ferrari and
Lincoln aviator commuter so those are staying so we're talking about the Boxster goes and the EOS
convertible goes and she even keeps her infinity so we're talking about a fourth car that does a
little bit of what the Ferrari does it does convertible fun but everybody can go trying to get out
for $30,000 he actually has some ideas already he said first gen BMW M4 maybe a bit more expensive
than they want to spend but that's an option he thought about the E90 series BMW M3 I think that
was the E93 in 93 convertible correct yeah he said be fun but costly to maintain it is a hard top
you brought that up and be a great v8 but a v8 that is quite thirsty and you have to wind way
out for it to be awesome all of these can be either positives or negatives depending on who you are
but that is a cool car he thought about the Aston Martin DB9 he was like you know why not
and then he glances off the Audi s5 convertible like is this a fun force here with question marks
but he really lands on what he says beware dumb idea ahead here's the irrational like what am I
about to do part this is when I dug in and went now this is fun early 2010's Maserati Gran Turismo
he says how crazy is it have two Italian sports cars asking for trouble in the garage
is he really leaning this way and should we save him is the question I'm not saving anything
good stuff you found one I like it that's good yep this one's $32,000 Matt and it's got look
33,206 miles on it they'll probably take like 30,500 maybe 30 it is a 2015 Gran Turismo base
there's a lot of these that's the good news and for fairly low miles here that's probably
just been dealer maintained change the oil in these things do the service that Maserati owners
don't want to do you're pointing at yourself why that happens you're absolutely right yep
otherwise I think it'll be great because if you get this car you can have rev battles Matt
the F430 gonna be awesome yeah versus the GT and the kids can be the judges and you can do this
like this will be like Wednesday night fun you can park them side by side in your neighborhood
because you drive at the weekend but middle of the week let's just rev them invite all the kids
over good stuff and you can have the rev battles and then everybody goes for ice cream and here's
the interior right everybody goes for ice cream right I love it this is perfect here's the interior
and as you can see those rear seats are looking pretty comfortable and there's a decent amount
of space back there for the kids so all four of you and the tops down and you're listening to
the Maserati and I'll betcha even though your F430 has the client exhaust I bet this rivals and
might sound better it might but there is another car that you could consider if you want to shy
away from having two Italian stallions in the garage and that is the BMW M6 convertible you
probably forgot about the 2012 model and good news it's not the the new 430 which is the Beaver
Tief because we could go down that road I don't know that they're 30,000 maybe they are 30 the
four cylinders would be four cylinders might be yeah they would be and they've got a ton of space
tons of space yeah the new M4 but they've got the Beaver Tief they do and this is an M6 with the
non Beaver Tief and check out the back seat on this one still has a decent amount of space back
there and I think look at this 68,000 miles probably just been driven normally obviously never
probably never tracked oh no way no way has this been nobody even thought about tracking this car
and you know what this I actually like this styling I agree generation before this
was a little weird for me this one is right before the day went Beaver Tief and it actually
does work and I think it's aged well too yeah it's still really classy here's a nice blue and
I think you could really see yourself in this one so not the BMWs you were thinking about but go
back a little bit further and here you go for only $25,000 that is exactly what in your price range
and you're rocking an M6 F430 and I don't see any other cars in the garage in the future
it's good stuff first off you did bring up M4 so I wanted to show you a really good example of what
you're talking about here is a black 2015 BMW M4 convertible for $26,000 with 94,000 miles this
was kind of the middle of the range here but this is black with a really nice tan interior
these have got surprisingly good space I like your M6 a lot Paul that's a really good one that
might be the better choice here but this is everything you're looking for in a BMW so I
think that's really good but I I kind of think that the answer is the thing that Matt already asked
you are crazy but it's a Maserati Grand Trismo I've got a blue Grand Trismo Sport for $29,000
with 42,000 miles available right now 42,000 miles less than 30 grand four doors I mean pardon me
four seats an actual convertible two door these have decent space in the back the engine that's
going I mean seriously this engine more interesting than anything BMW's ever made doesn't mean no
run as well but more interesting I think the engine is the best part about these cars absolutely
absolutely fine here's the reason that I think this this crazy idea is right because this isn't
a car you have to rely on nor is the Ferrari your wife has the infinity you have the Lincoln
Aviator so normal dailies because your Lincoln's recent too normal dailies are solved SUV haul
stuff grocery stores road trips solved your fun car is this Ferrari which is awesome with the
manual you're wanting to give based on what you're telling us you're wanting to give the whole
family the crazy Ferrari experience because it's only a two-seater good here you are and if this
2013 Maserati and look $30,000 is not no money it's real money it's absolutely yeah but if this $30,000
Maserati lets you down it hasn't infected your life it's infected your budget but your life is not
affected at all you have a car to drive everywhere you still have another fun car but when this is
great the whole family's in this cackling I'm all about it and battling the exhaust note I think
this is crazy to say Matt and I honestly can't believe I came to this place but drown the family
out I think you might be the perfect use Maserati Gran Turismo buyer I think you're right because
it's in your budget yes but there's no consequence to your life if it fails you I say go because
if you have this six months and it's a disaster think of the six months of memories both pro
and con I'm never doing that again I mean if you have the ability to do this that is so low
consequence for your daily life that I say roll the dice especially since you have a VP of financial
shenanigans let's have some shenanigans let's go make sure you have pickle fork on the license
tag or like cocktail fork you know to something yes yeah you gotta you gotta do this lots of places

car conclusion number one comes to us from Greg W he's enjoyed the videos and podcasts over the
years Greg thank you for writing he's written in a few times it's really great thank you he has
he bought his STI when he was 49 years old based in large part on our reviews it was exactly his
advertised always on rough writing old tech and fun at now age 61 it was time to move on to something
comfortable reliable and still fun and he thinks that we would like his civic yes we would he feels
more like a driver now than when the when he had the STI where he felt like the car's employee
that's an interesting assessment okay all right all right and Greg sent us a cool photo of the car
here it is in gorgeous blue looks like you got it showroom new love it Greg thank you for sending
your photo Honda does a great blue and it looks really good on the current civic and so you wanted
to move on to something that was still fun still has a good chassis but was just relaxed and you
I think you nailed it with the civic the current one's really good good for you totally awesome
do you guys remember the guy in the 25th grade yes remember him Jordan yep he wrote to us well
four years ago now but he's now an MD and that was his joke he was in the middle of medical
school talking about he was working his way through the 25th grade we were like how does that
math work and then he broke it down and we went that's terrifying yes okay Jordan is now an MD
he's got MD after the name after his name when he writes to us congratulations very cool good for you
doctor yes absolutely yeah he landed on an m340 after graduating from his surgical residency
bucking our recommendations of an alpha Julia and s60 I wonder who said Julia oh wait that was me
yeah that's who that was yeah he loved the power of the b58 engine paired with the silky smooth zf
yes he appreciated a decent room in the back for double car seat duties he loved the interior
build quality and minimal use of piano black but after three and a half years with his plan to be
forever car he just moved on from the m340 for three main reasons he kept hitting his two-year-old
son's head on the doorframe lifting him in the rear-facing car seat not to mention the metal
portion but he felt like he needed something with easier ingress and egress especially for the dreaded
parental CUV land that he was trying to avoid second reason he didn't expect he didn't like the front
seat interesting I'm surprised BWC's are typically pretty good keep going yeah his 2023 model year
dealt with some chip shortage issues including lack of adjustable side bolsters sure okay Jordan
six foot three sorry doctor 663 sorry six foot zero yes with a slimmer athletic build so
he felt like he was swimming in an otherwise lovely perforated sense of tech seat okay so you
didn't have enough adjust but we actually had a press car during that time period that had the
most based BMW seats ever and it was for the exact same reason chip shortage the last reason here is
that he never had an emotional connection to the car the engine and transmission pairing was
incredibly capable the car felt like a rocket ship that didn't need him once he turned it on
that's fair there was no steering feel the occasional on-off ramp was tackled too effortlessly
and in order to find the limits he'd have to risk a suspended license he was never going to track
this thing because of dad duties and other timely commitments golf yes kept him away from the track
golf yes so three and a half years into his forever car he ended up looking for the next thing and
this time without running it by us before i got to leverage his kids futures on a cayenne or greek
hale you have listened to this show okay yes he always wanted something quick conspirated with
luxurious interesting interior with an easier height for getting the kids in and out he prioritized
buttons he missed the iDrive 8 based uh version 8 based m340i he wanted as little as black
plastic as possible snug seats personality he had about six to 8000 and equity out of
buying out his old bmw out of the lease and was looking for something around 40 000 early 2020s
30 000 miles or less this is a tough list yeah okay and his wife already had a 2021 x3 xDrive 30
that they're very happy with he considered the g70 he was turned off by the engine performance
he passed on the x3 m40i because his wife already has an x3
the 30i yep and he wanted a new experience away from bmw considered mccons most of the
interiors he says are quite bland he ignored the xc 60 due to concerns of long-term ownership costs
of volvo and he ended up with something rarely recommended on the podcast though we have fully
reviewed it on youtube where i am one upshift away from nirvana across multiple scenes you
drew this out man jordan this is fun i like it yeah what's everybody guessing
he went with a 2022 mercedes glc 43 amg nice they are very cool and you're right when we
have our test drive of that we both thoroughly enjoyed it it's very very fun jordan when we
had our press car i got a speeding ticket within hours of driving that thing i'm usually so careful
and i was just like mm-hmm and the 43 is not the big boy and it's still crazy it's still
yes loads of power twin turbo v6 and the nine speed he said aren't as silky as the bmw but
it's got steering feel the amg exhaust is a riot and it feels like it's ripping hard than it is
sometimes seat bolstering is more aggressive more interesting place to be little minimal
piano black and hard hvac switches and he preserves all the neuronal connectivity for his son things
only doctors say yes exactly he no longer hits his son's head that's been dumbed down for you and
there it is yeah it's like when my sister uses medical terminology on me and i'm like no no no
i can't deal with the medical zone out stop talking about she and she knows she likes to
doctor congratulations on your Mercedes a doctor driving Mercedes but there's an emotional
connection there which is so cool that's really cool that that here's the thing that's what you
were chasing and you still found it i love that that's great doctor thank you for writing really
appreciate it if you have a profession that you would like us to debate whether it's a real estate
agent or a that we're doing now offer wow the profession debate i like it i'm adding to our
list i'm terrified but we'll try it yes we're still be a doctor you should be a i don't know what
the other sentence is yeah we're still waiting for new pie in the sky thing ceo say and uh i'm
waiting for uh i spent too much i'm waiting for those there's a few on discord exist i think
some people are hiding but they do exist they're hiding you know who you are so i want to i want
to hear from you jumping into audience questions i'm going to start here with dan he says do we
enjoy wrenching on our cars in our spare time dan the short answer is no and and i know that's
kind of crazy to say as a car guy that i don't enjoy it but here's the thing i have done some in
the past i've done you know brakes and tires and suspension and and some of the the basic stuff i'm
not really much of an engine guy though i did fight against my original 300zx with your help more
than once we did fight that discovering just how little room there was to do anything we did some
brake fluid on the floor yes and we replaced an alternator which i'm still amazed worked yeah
because there was no room for any of my hands but moving on so i have but what i always find is
i never have the right tool to get it done efficiently and my time would be better served
elsewhere that's what i've learned over time and the secondary part of it is keep in mind that paul
and i are blessed with the reality of the fact that cars are our day today so when i have free time
i don't want to do cars i don't really want to drive i don't really want to work on cars
i'd like to do something that's not cars because and again i'm saying this from a place where you
and i feel very blessed and astonished to do this but like we got a great great drive yesterday on a
thursday i don't need to go driving this weekend that's true i had a fantastic drive yesterday
on a thursday pursue other hobbies other interests we do the other things that provides a nice balance
and that has that has also exaggerated the fact that i'm just going to pay somebody else to do
work on my car they'll do it better i don't have to worry about it i get that time back i posted
a picture of my newly updated forerunner with a couple of products from our friends at callie
raised led thank you to those guys for sending the rock sliders step edition rock sliders and the
roof rack whore has asked if i've looked into anything about the ride quality have the trail
hunter wheels and tires made it any better because he's got the same truck and the ride quality is
horrid that's funny because the ride quality on this one is what attracted me to buying the
off-road premium i thought it was i mean yes there's a lot to it but i felt it rode better and it
was a bright feeling to me and very engaging whereas the other thudding the adaptive suspension on the
the limited i didn't like and i felt like the the soft suspension on the hybrid was just it was
felt too heavy to me this was like a bright energetic feeling and it was a nice balance i
didn't feel like i feel the uh the solid rear axle as much and that's what attracted me to this
ride quality so no i've just done the vredestine pinza at tires the trail hunter wheels and just
left the suspension alone so it's got the bilstein remote reservoir shocks on there and that's what
attracted me to uh to the truck so i know ride is of course very personal but this is the one that
i really was attracted to it it just had not a sports car feel but just a very lively feel to
me and i i felt things and i i just i like that ride and then of course off-road it's just brilliant
i max 62 says we all know that Porsche has done the 911 dakar but what other companies should do
an off-road version of their sports cars in our opinion he says he's wondering if a dakar gr86
is something that you paul would violate your budget to get your hands on here's the thing i
might fight you for it i think you're right i the idea honestly to me of having a slightly
lifted winter car gr86 sounds like the perfect idea i'm not a guy that typically thinks there's
any purpose for studded tires but a lifted gr86 would have some studded tires on it yes i would
i'd be like what crazy hill can i go up today i would buy one of those a gr86 from the with factory
support that's really because we actually know a couple of people that have taken a gr86 or a
brz and they've given it like a two inch lift and they use it as they're all your all your car
and they love it okay we know people that have done it and i bet it's crazy fun but it is the
second because you could buy a first gen for really cheap but i think you need the upgraded
power of the second gen there's rumors you've probably all seen the photos of the of an upcoming
new selica that almost looks like this it almost looks like they body kitted and slightly lifted
an all all wheel drive the 86 i think you're right might be curious if the selica is coming
that's going to be this but i would totally do one of those and i actually think it would be
better than a miata to have a gr86 lifted i think you're right toyota could do that with the corolla
they've done the gr track car thing sure they can make the t rd t rd corolla yeah they could kind
of yeah make that little monster like that sezuki what was it the sx4 yeah years ago kind of that
that's funny yeah sort of thing and you know evs have started to explore this hunday's done that
with the Ioniq five the uh maki mustang has the rally version which actually looks cool of all
the monkeys very cool you're right i like how that one looks very true yeah so more evs doing that i
think could be an interesting niche market and lastly if corvettes making all the models
if they're gonna do a manual transmission very true doesn't corvette need their own sterato
that's good what do you call that what what super america name do we call the off-road corvette
no because it's got the electric motor in the front so therefore it could be all wheel drive
that could oh this is good that thing this is good yeah and i think that car would look super
weird lifted by the way it would look so weird very strange but i i want to see it and yes you
the the dune flags poking up and okay all right deal yeah rock sliders i mean just go nuts and be
like okay what are we and people would buy it they would a lifted off-road see it that's that's
fast and you can't call it x because they're all doing it all we seriously i'm trying to figure
out what yeah what super america you know what name does that get we need names you know with the
bald eagle on it or something it it's it's uh that's a super america thing we're off-roading
our c8 corvette oh yeah that actually ground clearance i like that more than i thought i would
it would look really weird i think but i'm all about it that's very fun on facebook seth k
asks about colors most of us like brightly colored cars as we should but says says what cars from a
design standpoint look good in the bland colors like black and white and gray and silver you might
always think that it is the more high-end luxury cars that want to do the subtle sophisticated
slink through the night the livery Mercedes the mybox the astens you know all that kind of stuff
but when you see an economy car in any of those you know monochrome colors
uh just somehow got even worse a civic si and gray is just but in that bright hot lava orange
oh this is yeah kind of fun and sporty it's amazing how just color true makes us change our
perception about that car so i suppose we can always say for the distant future all the cars
that will look good i would choose black out of any of those there are some nice grays i admit but
it's going to be the sophisticated the slinky i you know i just want to kind of not call out
attention because of how expensive my car is i didn't tell you this i saw a pro song way
okay in park city did you at the grocery store well you know it's an suv so we take it to the
grocery store in champagne oh no in no no no a Ferrari pro song way this is at least a half
million dollar Ferrari suv i have never seen one in person well now i take that back i saw one in
you certainly haven't seen one around here i haven't seen one in utah in park city but of
course it's park city so just wait a few minutes that's the right place yeah you know there it is
i mean this place is littered with irai what is the what uruses what is the plural of urus yes
there's so many here and finally a Ferrari pro song way rolls through the parking lot at the
grocery store in champagne like of all the and i know it's an suv and it's but and it was brand
new perfect it was a guy with his young son champagne i'm sure we could look up what that paint
cost but my guess is it cost a lot it was as champagne 1993 Toyota Camry champagne as it was
possibly get it was that's horrible that's horrible and i'm sure there was a possibly a five figure
list on getting that probably because there's probably some sparkle and something in the special
so it can look like a Camry yeah hey more like look like a cabri package please
what about that amazing green you know it's this Italian celebration absolutely like make me just
stopping my tracks and whoa yeah whatever i don't care and then it was like is that a care that's a
pro song way i've never seen one i've mentioned this before but i will give you one car that i
really don't know i take it in gray over that i would i would take it in black or gray or any
totally except for the champagne one car that i actually do think one of its best colors ever is
white and that is the bmw i8 they first released that car in white with all the black accents and
then a little they had a little blue bmw motorsports three color blue thing through a lot of the seams
and i've seen that car in great colors and it looks really good in great colors but i don't
any of the great colors look better than the launch spec of white and black with that little
blue accent and something about that design always works for me like that and i am not a guy that
goes get it in white but in that get it in white and i can't believe i'm saying that but i feel
very strongly about that car you've also liked the Lotus Evora the one we drove years ago that
was white with the black roof you kind of yeah that worked pretty cool because it had the rockers
in black yeah rockers and they had some red accents that worked that kind of not a car would
have picked but that's the funny thing about the i8 is i literally like if i was going to buy one
that white would be near the top of my desired colors to seek out it's wild and i would never
pick white on anything else first be like well i guess i wound up with white yeah
nate comes in swinging elbows he's actually writing this to paul but i'm gonna field it he
says he wanted to ask why wheels with an actual color on them always look bad but now he's afraid
to ask please advise because you have your bright yellow hod color wheels for your Cayman
and i will say this to you nate i i don't love paul's wheels but i do like the way the car stands
out okay it's not something i would have picked it's okay but i applaud you on this
you just went i've got these wheels that i'm probably not going to use much i'll probably use
them on track i might use them on some of our road trips what big notice me color would be
offset in this car and you've just now put a yellow cage in your car that is similar to the
color of the wheels i'm starting to see you connect the dots here okay it's not i wouldn't
have gone there but i see it okay okay nate here's what i'm gonna say to you when it really doesn't
work and i've seen this is when it's a solid color that's the same as the body color what are you
doing no the whole the whole point of the wheel is it supposed to be an accent thing which is why
i don't like black because black doesn't accent it just the whole wheel becomes just a black hole
it disappears it doesn't do anything that makes the car pop which is why i don't like black wheels
so that's why i really like silver wheels i'm not really a chrome guy but i like a really nice silver
or rose gold i think you can go solid color but it's got to be an accent color that offsets the car
it can't be anything close to the color of the car that's all bad and you're getting enough yellow
accents that it's starting to land that bright yellow color even though your rose gold wheels on
that gt4 are perfection i love those wheels they're very cool yeah i mean you know it's the opposite
side of the color wheel is the thinking so whatever you choose the opposite side you were bold i get
it except when it's red and green either car or wheels that's you just don't do that
nope nope nope but you know when it's blue you go to you know bright hot orange or yellow or a lime
or something like that so and the wheels were black i was like i i don't like blacks pick any color
yeah that's true i i see why you did it i could have gone for magenta or something and i would have
liked it better than black you would have liked it better than black but i see where you went yeah

About this episode
Wet-track racing chatter (including Max Verstappen’s Fuji test and Nürburgring plans) gives way to a deep dive on Brembo’s fully electric, per-wheel electronically controlled braking and how it changes brake feel. The hosts then pivot to practical garage upgrades with Powerstop brake kits, followed by a wide-ranging family-and-budget car strategy: manual sports cars, adventure SUVs for unpaved roads, and used EV value debates—ending with more listener Q&A on wrenching and driving feel.
The guys take on 3 car debates for this episode: First, Ashrit is searching for soul and adventure, and is looking to buy something for rugged outdoor expeditions but a fizzy sports car too. Steve G is considering an EV for long-distance travel, but has yet to convince his wife. Then, Matt M. bought his dream Ferrari, but he can’t take the whole family along! What does he do?
