"It's generally nice-looking car, obviously, you know, a lot of people say the proportions were wrong, you know. It's other the 32 or the 34 but I generally think Dr. R 33 was ahead of its time. Doing it back in."
"lot in the 90's and 2000's. Yeah. Like sitting in that E-class of yours that we went. There, we came back and what's out of money that's 1000 models."
"Like the front air dam treatment fog lights and The Grille, the taillights a body colored door handles the, the indicators in the mirrors. The steering wheel was updated to be like the S-Class that I had. It's got the screen in front of you."
"...question 10. How many versions of the Mitsubishi? Evolution Lancer were made? I've dated Patrick just oh, I'll Satio..."

Does professional idiot. Drive.
I would do the after our death. Automatic Perfection comes in
the form of two letters, A and D.
I have my Ltd in a castle. It is Tuesday night, it's me,
met EJ. Joined by Edward bunting.
Patrick, never, and mr. David prints from phony and I
should say owning it boning, in, from the land of the mount, Panorama Bathurst, if he studied he is, I am.
Yeah, we'll get to you in a second.
But how are you gentlemen? Drying out, thanks.
Yep, good David's drying out Patrick's not well.
Oh, I'm hanging on barely pile. Take it off.
Pretty good physically, I'm alright.
Mentally, I could be better, but physically it will be I'll pick him up for me. I can't be up all the time.
You know, it's exhausting isn't it?
Yes, I've gets me down from the secret.
Is just to buy another cow. Yeah, that's that's the answer
to all the problems of the world.
I completely agree with you with that.
Don't work for me so far. It's a great to great gift.
It's a great great thing to have but we'll go around the room and the rooms round the screens. I should say, seeing what you
guys have all been up to me and I mr.
David Prince has been in a bit of a bit of a journey, right trip in the house and seeing the to ring, but in the Ventura ring. But not in the Torah, you've
been tutoring, but not in a turing.
You've been, you've been in the CRV so obviously, you missed last week. How The trip been where have you
been? You almost got washed away.
Fill us in. Let us know what's been
happening with you. They're not be the variety of
catching up with some family and rills mainly of my mother-in-law's is coming with us which has been great fun.
She's a good egg. And so we do through camber
across to the coast to the rumor up to Sydney for four nights and less there yesterday, morning having endured well over the weekend. They actually announced that it
was the The third Hundred Year rain event.
They've had this year so I'm not quite sure how that works.
There's a guy in the news. This morning, has been flooded
out five times since Christmas so I'd be moving if I probably could but you know, probably you can't you probably can't sell the house now, you know, I mean it's soggy in the bit with the I'd guess by now he's here on Friday after the last one.
Yeah, absolutely. I've never seen rain like it.
It was just the big thick fat drops of rain on everything and heavy and just didn't stop just poured and poured and poured important forward and it's still raining today, we swam our way out. West yesterday across two
batters, we were heading up to Newcastle but it's just wasn't worth going to Newcastle. Where we're staying was right on
the water and all the more rains have it headed up to Newcastle today. So we were planning on coming
out in Via Methodist and a Crest sort of through the West there and that which we did, which proved to be a great idea.
Because it's been a lovely day today.
And we've done a bit of touring around a bit of a bit of lapping, the track any red-blooded Ozzy car enthusiasts has to make a pilgrimage here at some stage.
I've been twice before my father and once with my mother and father before I've had my license, I did have my heel plates and he did. Let me drive the company VB.
Commodore around one lap on our plates.
That was pretty exciting. I remember that role.
And then not long after that, I had my license in my, so I did a lap in my 78 Corolla, which is a pretty slow lap of them say.
But if you haven't been to the track and you're at all interested, it's a really great part of Australia, and you won't believe that the The track is so tight and so steep to think of the speeds are doing, it's just nuts.
You know, I mean, I remember reading a report years ago of Allan Moffat, the first time he went there which would have been probably I think 67 or 68 across Skyline.
There was no fence to the left so it actually looks right across the city passes across the valley, its absolute panoramic view. Hence the name Skyline I suppose
but yeah, I've saw him. Advanced Lee said the first time
you went around the track, he looked left and saw the drop and saw how high he was because you have no idea.
How are you get so quickly. And he said, every cent, that
was the only time he ever looked left.
He said from, they're not be, he never looked left.
Again, I think I think you'd need to develop that sort of steely-eyed, determination to to race.
Their, it's an incredible track. It's the mecca of Australian
Motor Sport. Isn't it really hard?
It is. Is it it's the place where you
just have to go and I've never been in like a lot of my family members have been in like Matt you've got to go.
You being me a massive car guy, he's going to go.
They just just to say that you've done it and I think that's something that I got to do.
Absolutely. I had looked through the museum
today, which is quite small. I thought it might have been a
little bigger and that was quite sort of heavy on the post-2000 sort of stuff they had. They had replicas of the first
car in the 4-2, win the GC Cortina which was back then, it was the Armstrong 500, so it was 500 miles.
And then it changed to the 1,000.
Obviously, after the after km became a thing that they've got the first, the Monaro that Brock erased in there in 69.
And of course, they've got a nice area devoted to Brockie, few other. No nice things in it.
They've got a really lovely rx-3 that was very successful there because I took all the jdl, the Japanese cars I took photos of lots of Commodores and Falcons that would but but of course, the cabin wanted to third year in. 66 was a mini in the class
that was fascinating because then that in the class of the mini was in, I think it was classed a or class say, I can't remember which way they went. But there were 19.
Cars of them are 19. Housing that class and 16 is a
Mormon, he's tough. But but one of the actually one,
obviously the mean he's kept going off in his obstacle course. The Ike's became the thing to
have and there was a great series.
I remember watching with ABC series on the road on the road or on the telling, I think it was called on the road and was the history of Motoring Australia base in, there's a great Chapter of it on on racing and betters to in particular and they interviewed Fred Gibson. And Christine Gibson who were
married couples, sort of in the late 60s, early 70s, and he competed in the GTA child, she was in a mini and they talked about though, they were being interviewed side-by-side and she said, you know, I he freed will come pastor and con rods Australia, and her car, was she force and the velocity?
That the thing was doing Pastor, it's brilliant, it's really iconic. Be there and see what those
corners and, and drive the road is bringing then today I had to go and drive it to the opposite direction, of course, because it's a public road, and it's to wait.
So, yeah, that's Phil. That's a really weird.
That was like that, I started being Europe, driving on the wrong side of the road. That's, that's been, that's been
a real highlight of the trip so far.
And then, cat heads, ever go. So, she had to go and then we
actually haven't had told my mother-in-law, but I'm sure she won't mind me telling you that athe actually drag like that better. Uh, so there you go and we
printed off a little little little thing from the gift shop, you know, with a name on it and stuff like that.
So that's pretty good shoes, pretty impressed with that, that gives a bragging rights, she's definitely cool to me.
That's for sure, which they're doing until tomorrow, it's great day. Black the S to s t which is
fired up here to. It's only the second one I've
seen and then about an hour later, I saw the third one I've ever seen in Orange. We went across to Orange.
So that's about 50 case away. So yeah there's a bit of a comet
has anything up here, Aegis. It's I'm going to sell my car
now. That's it.
I'm done. So the must have been on the
same ship. Yeah.
That's quite as quite funny. Actually, that's that's really
an update of mine anyway and you've seen in the space of a day that's all it was. Good to see that picture like
this black. I haven't seen one yet but You
see whenever a guy that's yeah, it sounds like having a great trip when you heading back mr. Prince, we'll be back, by the
way, hopeful for a big drive on Sunday.
We've got to do, which will hear all about next week?
I'm sure. Yes, sounds definitely sounds
good. Yes.
Well thank you. Miss David safe trouble on your
way back Miss. Thank you Patrick.
What's happening with you? Sold the Mazda or still got
still waiting for that? Still waiting for that.
The arm as hasn't gone yet. I had a few just time.
Wasters some Tire kickers. Just do my heading saying
they'll come saying, look at the cash soon and just negotiate negotiating stupidly with the price even though I am negotiable but they're just throwing ridiculous figures that you think is just stupid. Like one person said I've been
doing my research and I think this car is worth this certain amount but I'm like, if you actually have been doing your research, you know how much the case is currently worth in today's market. Maybe two three years ago in the
whole thing was conditions. Sure.
You could but in its current state with the current market there's no way in hell, no way on God's Earth.
Am I letting go for that price? It's so it's probably the most
annoying part of selling cars, like, I've sold.
So obviously two cars prior and it's just if anything, the hardest part probably not even getting a roadworthy for a car but just dealing with the people and then just wasting your time and you try to make it as clear as possible and I'll be a lot of people say to me, oh, you got to be more harsh, be firm, you know, be mean. But I tried I tried be the
better person, right? Right in hindsight.
I try to be, you know, nice and so respectful along the way, make things clear set out, but I guess it just doesn't matter.
People don't care and then we'll just walk all over you.
So I love Pat how, you're so jaded with having sold two cars.
And I recently, I must be nudging, 500.
You know, I'm willing to the for I'm just thinking where you get along together and get used to it.
Yeah. Can you do us a favor?
Can you read that a list of every single car you've had in your possession? I used to have one and I used to
keep with that record and then I let it go some years back and there's been a lot since then so a lot.
So I think I got into the high 300s.
So it's got to be well into the 400.
So I think Fair enough. Yeah I should keep all this from
now from today he will this room today and go from there.
Okay. I'll um yeah I might if I'm
really bored or stuck in hospital for a time or something at, that's not good trying to do that but I've got a list on my phone of all the cars I've owned it could cause that I've driven and cars that I've been in but it's nowhere near like someplace. You're pulling in like all my
other customers a baby though pound quite there's a lot of years worth of crap to accumulate you say crap some would say passion head passion yeah a lot of a lot of years of passion there they come in multiples you know like II you know we've said this before but you go down rabbit holes so you know you buy one oldrover and then you have six old Rovers at the same time for one old Renault.
You have 1000 16, exactly. So they come in multiples like
even home to cities how many Cities across, I've got one now, but I've owned that one. I've owned a white one line, two
parts cars. I've half owned another blue one
and a yellow one. So there's probably six or seven
Honda cities that have come across my, my driveway in that, you know, the last few years. Yeah, that tends to happen.
So there's a lot of double A battery.
I can relate with the murders of three being hard.
As I like my sister, saw him as a 3.
The next day, she put it up online, which reduce all those she had her almost between three Then my mom's car.
I reckon it probably took me. What will your head?
But when was trying to sell, it was very expensive.
No, it was actually.
I 15 people interested say, yeah, what?
They were coming out of all of those Only three people came sir can relate to how you feeling Patrick.
It's and it sucks because because when you actually want to buy a car like, for example, with you missy at that time, when I own that, it's Jesse, you were there really ready to go and then it sells but when other people just screwing around it really kind of Jade's your experience, doesn't it makes you a bit makes you a bit annoyed? That's the thing.
Like I'm at, I'm at a point as well where it's just like If I don't like, it's not like people a lot of people say to me, oh, it doesn't matter. You can wait or even don't sell
them as like you know it's a good guy and it is a good car.
I can't keep everything. Just play the game and saying
save and I'll get there. But the issue is that price
bracket for it. If I'm talking not specifically,
just ask that Esther teens, they ain't going to stay there.
Just going to keep going up and up, and up, and up.
So that by the time, I go to that certain amount to what the price is on them now. Yeah, they're not going to be
worth that him. Much anymore.
They're going to be worth a lot more and it's, yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, I just don't know what to do.
Matt, I'm lost. I'm spent lost at the moment and
just annoyed and confused and just over and, yeah, just wish I was born in your era, so I could have picked mine up at clean manual. Turbo on for like 34 Grand.
No excuse, but no, I had to be born as I said to you, dude, I met her when I worked with my last school.
This is G's before four years ago.
Don't know, your four years ago, please go this year, he had a S15 really clean turbocharged, he couldn't sell it for 10 grand. Like he couldn't get rid of it,
like he just couldn't sell it. Like he had a head made by T,
and I'm dropping it a little bit.
So to his mate because you want the Bullet, by Ford Ranger for work, he's like I'm going to the day is a of this and that's what they were going for, 10 grand for like a really nice one and When I talk to me, it's like those are rolling shelf of 50 Grand. He just like he's like, don't
talk to me ever again, don't do it.
So another well, yeah, I know I saw another bowling show.
Yeah, another rolling show went up for 30 grand, 30 grand for Rolling. She'll know.
I can understand, I can understand if it's something, you know, Claud. I've got left a classic, right.
So if it's a classic missile dadson or older European, Ferrari Lamborghini, push, I can understand that, like mine.
Uncle to my cousin there in the farm.
He still got, he still has his original V12, let me give me a spot or they need to be restored and he's our, he's sort of been off a good money for that. No, well close to six figures,
not going to get rid of it because it was a gift team, is going to fix it up. But that's something even though
it's not running and he needs to know obviously to be restored, completely in that car is worth, you know, certain amount of money because there weren't made that much, you know, it's you look at it. It's Lamborghini whereas you
know, taking this chassis the great cause you know the the idea of the Sylvia was, you know, small compact Sports touring car. That's what it was, right?
She couldn't afford a Skyline, you get got the silver at this.
The whole idea about it. With listen, they Innovation at
the time so it's nothing. Like it was, you know.
Wow. It's you know, it's got some
Heritage obviously. Now in say, in end of the last
decade or so, obviously they've been popular with drifting and all that all these other types. Of Motorsports.
Sure. I can see you know, they have
that drift tax. They have gone up in value by
like 30 grand for a car that when it was brand-new.
Look forward to taking this 15 30 grand for a show.
When brand-new could pick out a spec are up for around 46, 47 thousand back in 2001. So I don't think they're worth
that much. I've been in them and I can.
Yeah, then I wouldn't even. Yeah, I would even come close
and that comes with saying as well with skylines there, with JD ours, I'm sure. Got on the show can agree with
you that you know a 34 GDI is not 200, 300 400, 500 thousand dollars, you know. It's probably no more than a
fifty thousand dollar car in today's standard if we're talking but you know, I don't make the rules.
I've ran to live Ransom longer enough on the show previous time. If you don't know, viewers look
back in the previous episodes how much I've expressed my hatred but they're that if that's just the way they are the world we is and unfortunately a lot of people do it as as much as people do agree to with us saying they're not worth, you know, people are paying that much money.
People are spending that money, you know and they say supply and demand but and the day if if someone's words if someone's willing to pay that much to me that's going to the going rate for them. So yeah that's where I'm out.
Fortunately so it sucks I sometimes I do sometimes I feel like I'm never gonna be able to own a car like that you Patrick, even if I can in the future, it won't be justifiable if that makes sense. And this one that you talked
about last week, I think that's a good way of getting into it.
I've conjured Versed and that's that's blessing if no one's going to be buying taking bites in the master or whatever.
It's just, you know, and do not much luck there.
Pop-up really, but it's getting less and less and less.
And, you know, it's really matter of time, when it's like, that's it, they're gone, you know, you can't find it.
They'll be like, It takes three turbo, you don't see any of them anymore. I'm sorry.
And that's what scares me. It feels like like, obviously,
I've had I've grew up with this cars, you know, I give Sylvie's especially I've always wanted one as a kid.
No wasn't just like the last, you know, year of 45 years ago that and they pop up or social media other than I jumped on the bandwagon. Look, I've actually had an
exception like when legitimately wanted one.
Like, I still have ever seen all six years old on Sidney, Rosie.
My dad's old work driving through Does it is, right?
And I saw in S15 drive past I think, wow, what a beautiful looking car. I don't want to run ever since
and yeah, just the good thing is Pat that they're not getting wrecked as in going to the Wreckers.
You know they're worth money there.
Sought-after people like them, they made reasonable numbers of them so they will survive. It's not like they're all just
going to disappear off the face of the Earth.
They might get more expensive. They might be able to reach that
way, but the cars themselves will leave, it's not Like they're being scrapped and, you know, take comfort the car.
I always wanted and still want is, you know, between two and three hundred thousand. So yours is yours.
I thought is you Patrick the other day I was driving we were driving up the coast through a place called Bombay land in the rumor and there's an S 13 sitting in a side street out in the street been sitting there for a while.
With three wheels? What The where the fourth wheel
should have been had a jolly Jack under it so that was fully visible from the from the princes highway.
So I don't know how long it's been.
It looked like it had been there awhile surprisingly that no one else had decided that they needed a Morgan who owns it obviously. But yes there's still some out
there that will pop up as leak that need love.
It's all he knows what he has. Yeah that's right.
That's right I'll say those who say this last thing like insane that you see some People unlike unusual weaving on Facebook groups, whatever that they'll be in some area.
Even, especially on those in Victoria.
Victoria has a lot of 13s. I've noticed as 13's, and I've
seen a lot of people that see like a bone stock Esther to, he doesn't matter if it's naturally, aspirated, automatic, but it's owned by, you know, an older couple, you know, typically 67 years old and they pick him up for like, you know 7 8 Grand and makes me think where these cars, how are they finding him? Where do I need to go?
And look. And the end of the day, what we
can or so, just traveling around, you know, Victoria so not 100, but I agree that there are still out there, but do it.
Did you begin? I don't know.
I was driving a pickup. My Fiesta eye.
On the freeway. I saw a blue S15 stock.
Like, I've never seen one this close this stock like stock exhaust, stock wheels. Everything driven by an old
lady, just driving the car. And I'm like, she's probably
bought that brand-new and she's held onto it.
It was Stunning. Like it was a beautiful example
but TV TV three blue color on them is just yeah something else. And other over time I've ever
come home from work at a certain time down on on McClellan Road just past just passing the a 7-Eleven and a cave said there, there was a white Speck, are we with the jig food, Aero kit, with the arrow wing and everything driven by an older man. I've been seeing for years and
I've always said when I have the money I'm going to just follow him. They just offer him money but
yeah, just he probably picked that up, you know, brand-new and you know, honestly I think probably he does know what it's worth. Like I wouldn't be as going to
be surprised if he's been stopped before something.
Yeah. But they also have numerous
times and had things stuck under the windscreen wipers and all that sort of stuff. It's still unclear.
Pat, what you want is a s13 right now?
Yeah. Like what would be the dream?
I'm car. Dream car would be in this 15,
x, 15, x 15. That's, that's what, you know.
I've got model of too much models over, you know, everything Manuel color, like what's the dreams dreams purple bubble CSV. So manual is 15 Spec R with the
full Aero kit, nobody kids? I'm talking about Factory,
Arrow, actually, aerobars pods, the wing pewter gray.
I love that color. Nice color and just let's go to
be an F15. It wouldn't be an Ester Dean
Whatever no, no no. If I was to rank him in order in
my favorite s chassis, it will be 15 13th and 14th with.
And with 13th, I don't like how they I get the idea.
I think it's pretty cool but I'm not a big fan of still 80s or one new via. So with her different back ends
and whatever I just like him, sit, sit and sit as they are.
So yeah obviously I'll be 15 13 to 14 and on point as well I popular I prefer the Zenki S14 to the series 1 over the series, two kooky. You one of the early people are
ever met. That's, that's the thing.
Like, you see everyone. Like you seem a lot more.
They are kukiz asphaltenes, more than theirs and keys, and it's kind of goes to the same thing with 33s.
I think the 33 Skyline. It's a good-looking car.
I do, too. I think it's a mean, look.
It's generally nice-looking car, obviously, you know, a lot of people say the proportions were wrong, you know.
It's other the 32 or the 34 but I generally think Dr. R 33 was
ahead of its time. Doing it back in.
You don't want orders. Got to be Manual.
Of course. Yeah, would love Emanuel.
Yes. Oh that.
Yeah, that is the dream. I won't go into engine details
because that would be a whole hour long but typically, yeah, that's the dream. But at a noble wise, like
obviously, as fifteens are getting a bit, could be getting a bit stupid. But like, it's 13's, you'd be
still be still. All happy as Larry with one of
those 100 percent you know find a nest if I could get my hands on it, s 13. I know exactly what I do, put it
back to stock if I can find that factory.
See a kit with the see a spoiler, the live and everything, all that would be perfect put on set it on nice.
They look their sit very well on 33 GTR wheels or even like old-school, lmg t2s, which are worth Stupid Money these days.
But they look fact that 80s likely Early 90s Vibe students, so much and try spokes. I reckon them on try spokes,
look sick. I'll just leave it at that and
just, you know, power-wise even for this as chassis.
No more that I say even to 30 kilowatts is plenty.
If I think too much lightweight, Real Drive plenty of fun.
I'll just pull good ties and just make it a good driving car, man. That's why you don't worry.
I don't care about drifting and everything.
You've taught them. Inform good for Bob, they're
very well connected. Like when I drove my family
friends s13 just how connected and how raw it was, you know, ignoring the rider link and forth.
Gil crunch from time to time, I don't know typical Sr boxes but it's the size that is just very direct like you.
Yes, that's that. Dream spec car.
The S15 with the factory chianina you look anywhere between 50 to 60 thousand dollars.
Okay? So For a 21 year old like me as
a first-year electrical Apprentice kind of unobtainable at the moment. So I have to substitute for that
bag would be longmate. I know what electricians chat.
Yes, I won't be lying if I say well, I'll tell you what, I don't think they're going to keep going up as crazy as they.
I think they got a plateau and people don't Be realizing.
Why are we spending stupid money on a missing?
Like it's just it just doesn't make sense.
During the same thing with Skyline saying it's just a Skyline, no one mass-produced. 40,000 something sold 32 jdi's
it was an Australian like 44,000.
Lot of cars, It makes no sense to me.
Like I'm just like this everywhere.
Yeah, my neighbor my next door neighbor has, well, I guess how much that's where they are, you know that the same everyone?
I'll say one, it's just, I don't know if that's a bad thing about whatever time. I see every time I see it.
Yeah, it doesn't matter what generation I go.
Oh yeah, cool. I see Sylvia.
I'm like, oh my God, it's the best thing we could God's.
Yeah it is what it is man. And you know, No, I'll just keep
working hard or whatever. And, you know, at least I still
got a car and bless, I've got a good working, reliable car, it's fun to drive, you know. So you will see me down and
Sunday. Most likely, I actually was
thinking of getting their taking my family friends as 13 but the alternator is broken on that. He's getting that rebuild.
Apparently they say I'm the aftermarket getting after my coordinators that unreliable they let go for most of the time so it's more cost effective to rebuild the old one so If that was that was working, I would have most likely taken that down, you know, to add some spice into the group spot, you know a little while. Nice, all right, stay, but yeah,
car guys are probably do I do it on for too long but yeah that's where I'm at the moment to happen.
It'll happen it's exactly there's a car.
I know about until talk to you about after the show that is an s13 but we'll talk about it after the show.
Grunting. Hello updates with you.
My friend updates, with me. Well, I've been murdering around
in a variety of things. Most recently, the E200
compressor, W210 Mercedes-Benz sedan.
It's a cracker, it's very refined.
It's the engines of little rougher than the VC, but it's a lovely comfortable car, and Vera sense of growing attraction.
It. Yeah, you know, I really am
enjoying driving it around. And it's so good.
Easy, it's just comfy and great turning Circle.
And the mode is fine enough. It's reasonably, talk, you down
low and I'm, um, I'm enjoying it.
So there was when I had to go up country on Saturday.
I that was my vehicle of choice because, you know, I like the cruise. I like the suspension Benz is
really are very good at just point and shoot on a highway and eating up a lot of kilometers. And that's um, that's what I did
in that car. So, I've been getting a bit of a
good run. I've done over a thousand cases
in that, I think. Now, maybe I should take that
Sundeck. Mmm, welcome to take it Sunday
if you fuel in it. Yeah, all good.
Yeah, at the price, it is outside the M1.
Thanks. Yeah, exactly.
Exactly. What else have I been getting
around in my Civic is coming back to me tomorrow, then it'll go to panel shop. There are the reason I went To
Country, Victoria was to pick up some parts for the Subaru, Liberty wagon. So I got a replacement front
bumper. That's just not as the other one
was sort of straight, but it had house paint on it and it had been butchered. So I got another front bumper.
I got a rear seat belt. I got a headlight without a
crack. So that was a bit of a car trip
on my way over to Bendigo. After picking up those parts
from all Bree. I did see a yard.
Or a farm that had a lot of cars, including a Honda City and I thought I might have to go back and have a little investigation of that place when I'm bored one weekend.
What color was that one blue, Nelson?
Blue, which is last, you know, that dark navy blue so that caught my eye out of the whole Paddock of things.
What have I been doing? No movement on the to Rago.
Civics coming back to me soon. Oh, DB what Minnie Minnie?
So yeah, go ahead. That I was selling the 67 has
gone to a nice home. In July long, right?
Oh yeah, she was very happy with it and that she texted me a minute when she got home and said it ran really well, all the way home despite being a bit, smoky in the motor which we knew we weren't hiding that. So, yeah, that's gone.
I did pick up Maddie. You've been a bad.
Bad influence on me. You'd agree to purchase a Ford
Fiesta. I know.
Yes. First of all, you said about the
girl. She was the one that bought.
It. Second lying it.
You know you never know. You just never know what I said
that to you. Secondly, now you are all food
in New York now. Let me, you've driven the
typhoon and driven the fiesta. Do you want your own Fiesta and
then you bought a fiesta. So, thank you, Mary and I did a
little recap of the we said, okay, recently, I've had a ranger. I've had those two Falcon XR 6,
LPI, you know, cars, you like those, he really liked the eyes.
Yeah, I like those and now I've delved into a fiesta.
So, I'm like, jeez, this is a real habit now, which fear such a pickup or Pat. You're not going to believe it.
It's It's like the highest power one ever.
So 2004 LX which is I think the base model.
Yeah I was hoping you would have picked up at least an exile for those are pretty good. It's an l x 2 door automatic in
Black. One owner with 20,000 kilometers
on the clock. I'm not 22 is not bad, not bad.
Not the rule. I haven't seen confided in the
dark. The exactly haven't seen it yet,
but it's one day I'll be okay. Buying sight unseen.
Yeah, which is always a risk. But look, I'm buying it off of
friends grandfather and my friend sent me a couple of shots. And said, look, it's it's pretty
good. 20,000 Kay's, code got a bit of dust on it but it doesn't
really have any damage. And I was like, well, how bad
can it be for 20,000? Yeah, I've heard it up and
there's no engine, you know, the floor.
Cool cause we cut out and had it serviced last week, so I'm assuming there's an engine in it dry.
So I'm taking a little bit of a punt on it.
But yeah, based on his recommendation, I think, I think it'll be all right, you'll get some good money.
It's a virtually a brand new puppy, stopped new.
Car smell, maybe we'll see held that new car smell like this.
You get a ponytail look good for you, good for you.
It's all plastic toxins and that's great.
I actually enjoy it and it's not If I, if I if I die from the inhalations of at least I'll die.
Knowing I've had fun. So is it with epic considered
the same as like taking drugs? Probably.
Yeah. You don't look bad for you but
you enjoy doing it. It's a different kind of
euphoria. I think it is.
It's kind of mean for me it's new car Interiors.
It's a it's We still need to do the drag race. Yes.
Yes. Before with people in the car
before it before we invaded. They want to do a drag race
between my manual to Rago car and the auto 2.2 injected model.
Whoo! Okay, but here's what you need
to have between the nearly billion kilometers.
Okay. Then we'll be grounded one of
them for 16. Then 583 so it behaves, what's
wrong? They're both, they're both.
But here's the thing, right? We're going to have 16 people
and fill the cup for both cars up and we're going to go we're going to make it as even as possible, you know?
And then we're going to go. All right now we're good now,
it's a drag race. So the so that'll that'll
that'll be the same people drive through Macker, dollar cones for everybody. Ha ha ha.
What on my velour? I won't allow it.
Great. We have to do it obviously,
Mexico. Yeah, what about you, nephew?
Hmm, with me, the fiesta finally hit 1000 km, it's taken almost a month and a half to do it. But I've, you know, I've gotten
there, you know, open it up fully or is this another 400k?
Just to make sure that it's 100%.
Like I obviously took our opponent, Sorry, I thought I want to make sure it lasts test of time and then I'm planning on taking it for a trip. Down the Great Ocean Road with
the fiesta, the Fiesta ST, Club of Victoria, which which, you know, I didn't even expect them to be any fears, the clubs in Australia, because I know there's a small forward clouds, but then there's like the, you know, the fiesta fiesta group.
So they invited me for that. And I was like, yeah, how did
you find them? We're just on on Facebook.
I just, I just I looked up Ford Fiesta.
Uh, Kate. And then this one came up with
your Victoria Ford Fiesta group, and I'm like, oh sure, I'll join that. And yeah, they seem like a
pretty much nice bunch of guys. I mean, I'll be the judge of
that. Once I, once I go there, but
it's like, I mean, it's just more of a Facebook page, but I guess it's just been cool to see what about, you know, what other forces are like and and then the like, so yeah, I'm looking for, but I'm all looking forward to taking action on those Road and seeing what it can actually do. Because that's kind of the goal
with that. Everything else is Pretty much
the same with me kind of. Yeah, I'm really done much so
that is he looked up for a set of set of mats for the St.
I'm working it out because the the shipping is a lot more than that than what they are. So I'm just contemplating, if
it's kind of worth it. So iÃve been speaking to Sean
and they've been really good about it.
So I'm going to see what I could do.
I want to set a few more Korea places if they can do it bitch.
Jeepers, like he's obviously, obviously picking it up from there, so picking up from from, from his place.
So because it's free shipping to anywhere in the UK, which is great, but yeah, out of the UK, forget about it, so, not so much, not too much, which is, which I found out even on eBay for, like friend, looked like a sticker of humming, and it's like, it's like a dollar stick up at $10 shipping.
I find it hot, I, I physically can't press the button.
I'm like, it makes me sick. So yeah, yeah, so yeah, I just,
I just can't do that. But anyway, one more thing.
I didn't have a mate. He's obviously, Ben is moving
back to Queensland and his car is a Hyundai Getz and he installed a tow bar and a and he bought a little box trailer so he packed up his life on the box trailer.
Total timing with these gets. So he's made it halfway there
and he's like I'm halfway there today.
So I'm like right, I might go a little gets you you keep going he's like the back ends on the floor but he's like, it's okay.
It's it made it so little gifts that good?
The little gets that. Could I should like it gets.
I think it gets hurt. Ali good little car.
Look it gets too. Yeah I think I think they're I
think there were cracker. But anyway moving on gentlemen L
tonight is the first episode of our new series from for our for our whoo stand back. Stand back.
Is there still a quiz at the end?
Absolutely, there's a quiz so basically it's called the all about series. Now what we're going to do is
we're going to take it in turns as to talk about cars that we do we know really really well do a bit of research on them and Explain to everyone else in the podcast into Ellison is what, you know, a little bit about the car.
The it could be a car. Could be an engine could be,
could be something one model. Like a GTR v-spec know, what in
particular like a real detailed explanation of that so select we can obviously build our Automotive knowledge.
As we do on this show, I do a lot of time we spend, we spend dipping into Jello, especially Scotty bag in my work.
But the, the good part about it is That we always, we always have like, really good information and and for the quiz as well, it's, you know, it's more fodder for the quiz, which is always, always always good. So basically, I thought I'd
Jingles bingham's, my idea for this, for this little process.
I thought I'd start the process and basically, it's just smoke going to talk about, like, the history and models, what to look for excetera like that. Like the dishes.
It's just like a general overview of about could be a model. Could be a certain car.
As I mentioned earlier, could even mean entrance.
So I thought I would start it. Now you guys I'd like to you for
you to guess which color I can't have chosen.
Yes, I have chosen a car and everyone's going to encourage this. Market are Mi.
What? Karen, why, but I'll give you
guys, you guys all the go, each, and then we'll get into it.
Do we get any hints? Oh no.
No, I'm trying to sit. No, I'm trying to donate.
If you have chosen one of your own cars or somebody different board, laser incorrect. We say I might have gone for
laser. I was considering
the Toyota MR2 gentlemen. Of kannada, taking my notes down
and, and jumped on all the various pages and kind of got a good understanding of of. Yeah, exactly.
Extending on always up that I that I, that I already had.
So like I found out a few more things and some really interesting things. So basically how this is going
to work guys, I want to start talking.
You guys can stop me. We can we can discuss certain
points and I'll I'm going to. So I'm going to go through all
three models of the MR2 and after each model we're going to stop and have a bit of a recap and then go from there.
That's great. So gentlemen, this is the all
about series part 1 with the Toyota MR2.
Now, we will obviously be doing a normal shows as we go with different topics, but this will just be the first as we chop and change and from through. So this is the Toyota, all you
need to know about the Toyota MR2 so the MR2 gentleman was produced from 1984 to 2000 seven over three generations that W 10 W 20 and w30 the year was a null set the scene as you as you do Edward on your show let's just take you back.
Let's start tonight in 70 60. It was 1976.
And the goal of this car was tip which was to be a fun to drive yet. Provide good fuel economy
obviously Edward. Sorry.
I just had a question. You're talking to Emma.
Tucson you correct? And we're going back to 1976,
absolutely. There's one was first conceived.
Wow. Okay.
All right. Okay, the Toyota dad said that
they had said that the Toyota Mom, you can have a chat and then they can see Saved the idea, the birds and the bees happened and then the idea of a fun to drive should carve that provided good fuel economy. Due to obviously the siblings
all crisis and stuff was was thought up and it was approved was like yeah let's let's make something that that's fun to drive. It wasn't necessarily A would
you say it's a car that the size is going to make a mid-engine sports car. It was actually a very kind of
intended to be a sports. Guy was just kind of like went
to be a fun car to provide a good fuel economy.
What this salika didn't meet that brief.
Well, I mean that's the car that was that I thought I would that would have That brief, but they were like, I believe they wanted, they wanted something different.
So what they did was 1979, they had begun some design work and then they, then Toyota kind of decided that they wanted to evaluate different engine placements, obviously for aerodynamics. And you know, balance and
handling, because they wanted to make the car to be fun to drive.
Now, bit of a tidbit, if you look at some old, Toyota old Toyota have--let's, especially in the Japanese ones, which you own David, the Emily, says fun to drive.
That was the whole idea of this car.
It was meant to be fun to drive and drive and yeah, just just, just a bit of a, just a bit of a, you know, a bit of a good time. So basically, they came to the
conclusion and finalizing a mid-engined vehicle with that, was transversely mounted, and it came to play at first.
It was showed off in 1981 as the sa X prototype.
So, by this point, in to become evolved into a fully-fledged sports car. So again, it didn't, it wasn't
intended to be a sports. At the stop, but it was meant to
be just basically the Toyota sex sex.
Yep. Correct.
Yeah. So six, which is what this is.
That is, what is Daddy? Toyota and mrs.
Tony, so it become a fully-fledged sports car as I had full Independence and McPherson strut around front of radius breaks gutsy four-cylinder engines.
So the prototypes were tested in both Japan and in the United States for the first generation. So basically, they did a lot of
type testing on Willow Springs racetrack, which is, which is an America, which is, which is known to be a good test track for a lot of car companies, which they used to develop cars.
They got a famous F1 driver, the time, Dan Gurney.
But if you guys have heard about Dan Gurney Yankee never really be sure. He has, his David would say he
was an F1 driver eat, they employed him to help test and tweak the car and like they just tweaked and we can't wait until I got it right and rumor has it that Kind of took a prototype down the Angeles Crest Highway for a, for a bit of a thrash and brought it back to Toyota and saying he absolutely loved that saying that they got it. Bang on.
So Angels classic rest of you know in America is a famous row that like really twisty and curvy and a bit of fun so he absolutely loved it and it debuted in 1983 at the twin 1983 Toyota Motor Show. So so Toyota Tokyo motor show
under the concept name of the sv3 to build and hyper Gain publicity. So that was the background work
behind the car. So, it wasn't meant to be a
sports car. It was not to be a fun to drive
car, but then it ended up coming full circle and like, well, we're already halfway there. We make it as well.
Make a sports car. Yeah, now to erode created, it
needed to be named and Toyota being well.
Toyota, I guess, you know, they chose being the pragmatic company that they are the obvious move of calling it.
Essentially what it was. The midship run about two
seater, which abbreviated to Mr. To the naming system applied to
cars model codes as you will see in a little bit that The introduction into the MR2 so Edward you had a question earlier about those supposed to be you know it was a why would they use this? Like I don't know the answer to
that question. I think they just would be it
was at a time when there when car companies went kind of being a bit experimental or so hmm. So first model was the W10 from
1984 to 1989. So that was the first generation
of in my to it. So you might use with designated
the W code in the chassis. So hence W in the code and 10
being the First model, the car, gain the letter, A, so, to be known as the aw, 10 as a featured, Toyota is a series of engines. So basically, hence you got a
W10 or aw 11, which I'll get to in a second.
The model featured, two engines on debut, the three, ALU the 1.5
car B, which was only, I think for a Japan from, from all my, all my research, or the injected 1.6 twin cam nuong is the for a
GE which got, which was designated the, aw 11.
Aw levels were more known as they there's more.
As what was sold with that engine, there weren't that many 1.5, you know, copy ones that were that were actually sold on
debut. It one car of the year, Japan
and became part of Toyotas three-pronged performance carry tack with that. Salika the Supra.
And now the MR2, the suspension and handling were designed with the help of lotus engineer, Roger Becca.
But it was also quite heavy due to it.
Having five bulkheads to make sure it had strength and rigidity. Yeah, so it was available with
either a 5-speed manual Or 4-speed automatic as an option and was able to hit 100 case from a standing start.
In, just over eight seconds, which was bigger than its competitors of the time with 4 cylinders being the Fiat, x19 and the Pontiac Fiero 1986, brought the supercharged version of the twin cam for age-2 first to Japan.
And then in 1988 the state's, got it as well, which could do the 0 to 100 Sprint and 6.5 seconds.
We never got that. We never got it.
Also received beefed up suspension, and gearboxes to handle the extra weight and power obviously.
Because they weren't they weren't the strongest gearboxes as as well, get to in a little bit.
The initial MMI to reception was strong featuring in Wheels magazines. 1988 saying that was their favorite sports car of the
year and in and sports car, international ranking at the 8th ranked. Making it eight in the top
sports. Cars of the 1980s, the list
there was also a rally car, derived from of called the 22 to D, which was based of the generation of MR2.
It was meant was meant for group s in the 80s before.
Got canceled but the race-ready version made 559 kilowatts, that would've been an absolute death trap.
So that would have been scary as a was.
Yeah, that was the first generation second generation that w20 went from 89 to 99. So the second generation was a
bigger car. It was right by more, it was
longer, but it was all so fast that to make up for the obviously the big weight increase.
If you ask anyone about MR2, this is usually the first one.
I kind of think of like like like I do what I think of it my to. It's like I'm thinking the The
90s Ferrari issue. Looking kind of curvaceous one,
which is, which is funny because people that own these cars.
Pretty much all turned them into contemporary, get guards.
At some point like the aw 11. They got old mate, Dan Gurney,
and other professional drivers to help fine-tune its handling capabilities. This time, it was known.
It was known fully as the sw20 with the estimating, a series of engines W for the amount to chassis code and 20 being for the second generation of the car engines, growing in size, with more power. You could be have can be based
engines for either being a to point two, 5s or 3S to later, but the way you really wanted to be, was what we got in Australia, which was the three years to GE or in the states.
And in Japan, the three as GTE, which is the turbocharged engine. Again, Toyota being, you know,
code sensitive. They are quite smart.
They just said, g stood for your for Yamaha designed head, t for Turbo. 'If electronic fuel injection
model came in various revisions because it was made to be Bambi on ice on the limit. Had a bit of tend to snap
oversteer in the wrong hands. So Toyota redesign the
suspension, made it easier in the limit because I had five revisions this car over its 10-year lifespan which is quite impressive. Like yeah, usually College just
kind of do like a 1-1 like, you know, face-lifting that that it.
But they did, they revised it, five times to require really perfect it. And by the end and by the end,
some of the the people that would say, oh, it's too dangerous said, oh it's not on, it's not as easy enough.
So make up your mind. What do you want?
You want an answer. I'm Judith engine and placement
is our engine placement and Pella its traction was excellent. Their Vision 32 by did the
standing quarter and thirteen point one seconds which is faster than a Twin Turbo Supra, faceted NSX fast enough Ferrari, Ferrari 348, which was showing that it wasn't really a poor man's Ferrari because it was actually quicker in Australia.
We've got the Mookie Betts forever thankful.
Yeah, we never got the. We only got the non-turbo here
in Australia the 3sg. However, we did get some limited
editions like the baathist Edition which was A stripped out based spec model, having no ABS, no power steering.
It was approximately 40 kilos lighter than the standard model, which added to its great handling.
And that's a lot of cars. That's the car that a lot of
companies use mr. Prince was that only Australian
Market or was that internationally at thing?
I believe Australia was what I think one of the only places I should not a model in New Zealand as well, but I know we were, I think the only ones obviously, but not not, not JDM, so that was specially. Done for Australia, especially
done first. Because they won the they won
their class like three or four years running in the let you know that I'm the best connection to the moment so I should know that but that's what I believe.
That's the reason why I got they they offer that special basic was a stripped down version ready to put a cage and go racing essentially with. Okay.
Let it and it was it was a very successful racing out of all the three. This was the most successful
race car that that was, that was used to so.
So it was a really well, sort us what I think are now that, that was the say that was a second generation.
In the third generation Edward. How many Methodist Edition
models? Did they make?
That's a great question. I don't think I think I made
about 400 actually from from my research.
I have to double-check that Question question in the final generation which was the W 30, which is 99207 which is the final generation came to a mixed with mixed mixed reception in featured different names wherever you want in the world.
It was known as the spider as it was a spider spelled with a why.
For some reason it would a lot of Automotive, manufacturers will call their convertible spider with a why I think Ferrari Maserati out for mayo or all guilty of that.
So, it's not, it's not just two. Oyo these quite a common thing
with convertibles. Yeah, okay.
We should find out what, why? They call it a spider like that.
Like the one that had the world had the word eventuated that it was only a sorry. It was the Mis in Japan.
And the MR2 here, the MR2 Spyder in the US are Europeans would known as the MR2 Roadster where Mr. Roadster as you were in
knowing France and Belgium actually this car was a completely different approach fully known as the zzw 30.
There's a Stood for obviously, Toyota's range of said that engines as a featured, like, in the first generation, the Corolla based wondered if he D of 1.8 liters in capacity, the
chief engineer wanted to be a true driver enjoyment with low inertia and lightweight, which with a longer wheelbase to create high stability and excellent handling 0 to 100, talk about 6.8 a point, seven seconds depending on the
transmission choice. But this is where this car gets
very weird in Australia. Yes mr.
Prince, so weird, so weird. In Australia, we only got it as
a smt, which was a form of automated manual transmission, which was Beggars belief, as to why they only offered us that transmission, it was available with five or six speeds with that without smt. It was careful on its shifts,
polonium clutch life and very few technicians actually knew how to kind of fix it properly, even at Toyota, because it was a bit of a mess. Other markets.
Received, both 5 & 6, speed manual, 's the transmission aside. The zg r DW is 0.
ZZ W 30 had nearly perfect handling its It to be the best handling of all three generations with people, like Tiffany Del praising. It, a common sort for this car
is to put in the 200 g, which Patrick knows very, very well out of the Corolla sport, ever or silica, which makes it a proper mini Lotus, Elise. And then a production with the
salika when they went for a more mundane kind of fuel at Toyota in 2007, interesting facts, though gentleman, it was Japan's first. Mid-engined car in
french-speaking markets, the vicar was renamed to Mr. Cuz the
abbreviation Mr. To stand like the funding murder which is shit
in French. The w30 was the lightest of all
three. It was used as the hero car in
the manga over-rev as an aw 11, The Supercharged version was articulated with electromagnetic clutch, so it wouldn't be driven when it was. It wasn't engaged when it didn't
need to be serviced to say fuel. So it was a really smart way of
supercharging a car because supercharging actually takes power off the off the car of the crank.
So, Use the clutch. We're kind of turned off when
you when you didn't need it. And the first two generations,
also featured convertibles, which not many people know about, so very hard to find. So what to look for as a quick
rundown in all three generations, mr.
Clinks, I was just going to say of this of the 20s.
How many were tapped? They weren't all tiger.
Were they in the which runs in the second year?
The ones here? I believe, we're all sort of
tigers all Congress here. I think.
Yes correct. Okay.
So we only got it was a Target non-turbo, but you could get him as a slick, top near full roof or, you know, because I've said I've seen and they did exist but we only got an hour earlier as a Target here, okay? Generation 1.
What to look for rust is a killer on the early earlier martucci, ask anybody? They'll tell ya.
There's they trust there's just unless it's never been seen the water. They do Rust early, five-speed
manuals have 50 pop out so don't drive too hard in the early version. If you have a second one like
you like it and you They mock one be, they call it.
They're actually better at electric can kind of play up a little bit generation, to the host from Hell people in the MR2 world would know what that is. If you've got a turbo on, it's
an enlightened one of the nightmares to change.
It's virtually a whole day job for like a two-dollar part rust as well, coolant oil leaks and leaking t-tops that affects the first and second generation and generation through.
You seem to be the most reliable, which with Creek at failures, causing it to break the exhaust and the soft top window can crack if not folded down incorrectly, Rain holes from a soft top as well. Can get clothes, cause your
card, a flight out. So that is all you need to know
about the W or sorry. The aw Levin sw20 and ZW, 30m
are two Toyota's gentlemen. That is the first of our little
history lessons into what's the all about series of this show, mr. Bunting, I guess, just a
question on the third generation transmission, I believe that was sold here is like a Pedal Auto only, is that right?
Correct. Yeah.
So you could you can change it on the on the paddle on the steering wheel. It was a buttons.
It wasn't pedals on buns or you could change it Tiptronic lie.
And was it a conventional automatic transmission?
No, it was actually a was actually a clutch based and I think, I think I technically wasn't motivated manual to automatic manual, but what about yeah, it's down.
Shifts were really good. Apparently, like, like really
quick, but it's upshifts were like really terrible.
I'm stunned that transmission shared.
With any other Toyota, I don't think it was actually I think that was the only car was made for hopefully not ha ha ha.
Patrick the in the third generation in their overseas, the manual ones that their Transmissions use, are they the same Transmissions just in the seleka by any chance?
It's a great question that probably probably would be to be fair but I mean cause I'm pretty sure you can just swap in the two sides and into the matching gearbox and it should fit from from what I have read. But that is a great question
because a lot of people what a lot of people do is they'll especially here in Australia people that have those early in my Tuesday will you can buy the kids from Japan, like they're like people that are crushed them and you can just buy the pedal box, the gear selector and the actual gearbox and recommend and then your, you've got a manual, converted MR2.
Changes the car but it also does this have also got lots of love to meet the executive that said Australian just gonna have this gearbox as the in the option. Because what was you thinking?
Like I do a guy with you. I went to school with had one
that was his first car which was a quite a nice car back in the day. Like that was though.
Back in 2009. He got this like three-year-old
four-year-old MR2. I was like wow that's an email
to but yeah the transmission was not a good transmission.
It's interesting. I think because I remember they
came out, it was like it was a similar to the response, Honda had to the CRV. So where'd you get the first
sorry? CR, CR X.
We get the first gen CRX in Australia.
That was the Beloved sport in Japan, which went through about eight, a little midday 87. So late 87.
We got the second gen CRX which was the first chain that was sold in Australia. New brilliant brilliant little
car fantastic. Everyone loved them.
Very, very popular with go, sports sporting identities and all that sort of thing. They had a really good profile.
I'm brilliantly. Then when the late 91, when the
tagger of tests CRX came out, it was similar to, to when that the soft-top Mr. Took out there was like, what are they doing?
No. Like that's nothing like what we
used to. That's nothing like what we
actually expected the update to be and Yeah, it had to overcome that sort of resistance to it anyway regardless of our go-to car, it was but I think in the MR2 is case having that automated transmission was not a great move for the Australian Market. Really it made it very hard to
get over that, that initial balking at Peng of this is a DMR to we love. I think in a lot of ways, I know
you love your 10, but I think a lot of not always, I mean, Toyota was Stones as Naughty Zippy thousands boob feedstuff in the interior of one of those actually sitting photos when I worked on not long ago. Beautiful example.
That was a, that was a fifth very last event.
So that was would have been worked out of a meadow 99 or I like tall. Yes, yes, very last 115,000
case. But the interior is literally
like a mini Supra. You know, it was just a really
cool well thought out. Has a card.
I can't imagine they were anyone but didn't like it.
Having said that having written yours, like yours was like Beauty. Gangly a visit testing as
brilliant. Yeah.
It's a slice of cheese as I like to call it and it's a slice of Swiss cheese. Good.
Chassis and universally praised for its handling and and and balanced and affordable price tag which I think Toyota really In the late 80s, early 90s Telly Telly.
Obviously early. 2000's really they kind of just really managed
to have quality products for everybody.
And I think not many car companies could do that.
Toyota was just one of them and and that 90s MR2 is w20 was just a phenomenal staple of their brand.
I think absolutely in agreement. Yeah, I think that, that era was
an interesting one. If you look back to the early
90s at their range, you had did, we have Echo?
No yet. No, it will.
Maybe it was still starlett. The code was what 98 99 Yakko
was late 90s. I think it kind of was you
naughty nine. Yeah.
So early 90s you had the worst Allah you know little very good quality little run around buzz box, you had some really nicely done carollers. You had the egg-shaped arago in
the early 90s which was quite groundbreaking and everyone had one of those, you know. Chrissy.
Distill at that stage. I say, oh the say oh little
sporty thing based on the sister parlor.
I think. Yeah, we are saying is that were
nice that that time. Mr. To Zeda, what else is in the
Toyota range? We couldn't get here, the mark
force, your brother, the ASU brother, but that was around, and that was that was like, universally praised and Run out, you know like the four-wheel-drive you know the SR5 limited and stuff for runners and of course Land Cruiser. 80 series was a golden child of that era and that that
brand something 80 series is my favorite language.
Laughs. Yeah, very, very good.
Looking car over the weekend. We took my brothers were now,
solid kike on babe. Yeah, he's a little petrol.
Unfortunately, it is a petrol but, you know, Perpetual still go just inside. Obviously the if I had the
money, I would love to get the The um, obviously they're 1 H TT turbodiesel for percolator but even they've just asking ridiculous money for him. So yeah, solid car, you know,
I've always say, you know, why spends 100 Grand on a 79 series?
We then you guys spend another you know tens of thousands to do you know try on. Are you know do coil conversion
to reality rid of leaf spring Spring by in a series or a got coils you know, do Do a try, the wagon anything?
Is he saying? Ryan has on it is probably just
the VA, right? That's it.
But, you know what, though the 80s he was like, my brother had 80 series and his it was a tank is a diesel turbo tank.
It was, it was a base model gives dxi like, you know, I think I had had the barn doors and I would yeah, but Jesus was a tank like, you felt like you could you could really go go go through the Apocalypse in that car.
Like it was it was just An absolute weapon that thing was.
And yeah. And you know, I swear and it's,
I'm not saying I'm an 80s serious thing because there, but I just think growing up seeing, how many 80 series they were?
And how many still on the road? Like I see tons of them on the
road. Like, people, people love them.
That was just such a, just such an awesome year for Toyota most of them a very well-used. You know it's not unusual to see
80s with three four five hundred thousand-plus on them and Kim still commanding huge money. It's kind of like oh my God.
But yeah, a good year for Toyota.
Early 90s was was a pretty solid model range in need.
Every would you would you say that the late 80s?
Early 90s? Start late. 80's 90's early,
2000's ish were like the Golden Era for Toyota.
Do you reckon that was Toyota's best ERA that they that they have had over there? They're quite lustrous Journey.
You can probably say that for quite a few manufacturers because there was just, you know, cars from the 60s 70s 80s as good as They were they, you know, they didn't drive as well as that sort of 90s 2000s era and we probably haven't got much past that really, you know, like a 90s Camry to get in and drive today. In good condition is still a
nice quiet comfortable car. Exactly 1982, Corona is sort of
quite old feeling now, you know, not quite so much.
Not so much, so You know, I think there was a bit of a leap in terms of R&D and just Manufacturing Technologies and materials and things like that. They approved a lot improved a
lot in the 90's and 2000's. Yeah.
Like sitting in that E-class of yours that we went.
There, we came back and what's out of money that's 1000 models.
So they have yet to only two years before the next E-class.
Shapes, that sort of at the tail end of that bug eye shape.
Don't mean like the, what the Two Towns were like light.
Nothing late. 90s. Ish.
Yeah. That came out in 96.
Yeah ran through 2002. Yeah so that kind of particular
felt like as modernism not like on the road as nice as unwanted feels like it's felt with fellow classes.
I eat according to you know histories like it's it's not their best effort and it's still very good.
So you kind of go it's crazy. I always said that that client
that that you're like that e wasn't like I mean one to know one of those in good conditions I think still an okay guy like no it was I mean it still had the single white bar.
It's still had you know, very things from 124.
Yes it was cheap down a little bit but it was still I my eyes are proper Merc if they make sense you Can see some of the cost cutting, but it certainly doesn't feel it to drive.
It feels very good to drive. And, and the update even though
it was a very subtle update from the first bug guy to the tweaked by Guy, when you stand back and compare A and B.
They, there are quite a few differences, you know?
Like the front air dam treatment fog lights and The Grille, the taillights a body colored door handles the, the indicators in the mirrors. The steering wheel was updated
to be like the S-Class that I had.
It's got the screen in front of you.
Like the S-Class we The radio stations, come up in that and scroll through stuff, like they were, there are lots of little things, they did to make it more modern, so standing back now.
And I'd like, I poo, who dat card before I bought it and was like, you know, W210 Bogart and that, I really like them that much not Ben's is best model, but having lived with it and live with the update, and looked at the non updates and a respect for it, definitely was greatly very informative.
Yes, thankfully insights, I think The MR2 was a very important car for Japan because it really showed that you know, Japan can like I mean yes they had had 2000 GT and they had, you know, the Z but it really showed what they could do when they actually really tried. And it was a car that that kind
of crossed all boundaries because it was a you know, as a mid-engine sports car and do you know the closest one to it.
Because after the x19 and the arrow stop selling like to knit the Isis, mid-engine sports car, you can buy with the Ferrari, you know, and and I believe that was one of the ads.
I had like the closest thing you get to this 400 500, 000 year is a hundred thousand dollars more and they kind of played on that brought the kind of played on that and it got people into saying, well this is quite exotic.
But it also got people and saying, well well mid-engine exotic cars. Don't have to be expensive to
maintain. They can be reliable.
They can work and they can guess it.
As same time, you kind of open up to show to other manufacturers that you know, you You can make the car performs it like perform Supercar performance for a quarter of the fraction, the price way to kind of you know in saying that in spite of what we know as you know say they are pretty quite Asians are legends. We know today in that kind of
brought to what Japanese cars have become.
Absolutely. But generally do believe, the
MIT is an important piece of history after discussing with you. Yeah, I just think it's a very
important. Very important car.
I think it's linked to call that quite often gets forgotten about when people talk about Japanese cars that, like, they'll always talk about the skylines, a super has, you know, the NSX, you type ours, they'll even like mention other cars.
But like the MR2 I guess because it was different in terms of being mid-engine stuff that it doesn't really get the you know the respect it deserves and and I think that people that know no and the others just, you know. Yeah they see they see your
Skylands better combed. And to be fair that, you know,
Always it is but you know, in terms of what that car offered and you know what it, what it kind of, what a kind of gave people, I could buy in an affordable sports because we're two-seat sports car. I mean, it's it's kind of
missing in this market and there are Rumblings of them talking like they're going to possibly bring bring it back as either a hybrid or electric car. It'll be cool to see what
they've done because it really brought the really brought back the Supra. So let's see if they can bring
back one of the other brothers, but time will tell now Gentlemen, let's get awesome. Let's get into the quiz Shelly.
Alright guys. So now as part of this new, this
new kind of kind of direction for like a few episodes out there that will do, I'm going to put some questions that, that I've this some of the answers that I've discussed in, in terms of what I've said, we'll be in the quiz, obviously they'll have some other questions as well, but let's see, who was paying the most attention. Question, one gentleman question
one, which generation of the MR2 was the lightest.
Ed third generation. Absolutely the third generation
was the lightest optimal. Question to what car am I first
introduced in 1980? This full-size sedan from Japan
has been on sale consecutively sense and is still in production today. Its first generation was known
to be the first talking car by automating head Century incorrect. David did you buzz in was that?
But I just sit on I'm saying things like door is open and key is in the ignition. This car has now had over eight
generations with us in Australia, getting this car in 1990 during its third generation to replace our locally assembled vehicle from their same company. It comprised of a 3-liter V6
semi its power to the front wheels from its second generation previously to that was real drive.
The car was known for its pin touched Locking pad system, which was offered on its top speed of versions of the car.
It grew enig, Davis, David B. Then this maximum, that is the
maximum World, which one had the pin touch entry system, David T?
I correct. That was the next part of like.
Yes. That's the, that's the top of
the Ranger Andy. Got the only got that still on
sale actually a lot in Australia.
I don't wear anything. We saw here anymore now we don't
live here anymore but it's day to get them and look through me bit. Yeah, stay I still get on with
the the VQ 35 which is kind of cool.
Sure, mr. 3 sure. Yeah.
Question 3, what engine code does the last generation of Mr?
To have David David Z, I'll pay that.
Yeah, 10 is correct. Yep.
More than once. It's it question for which manga
used in aw 11 as its hero car. Oh Pat no.
I know what it's called. I know what it's called and then
when it's cold but I can't say it, I don't know what it was.
You just said as well. I did, I've been the sickness.
I understand correctly. Artigas say I'll say she and
Woody, yes, I surely know we're not playing this game.
Okay, David overdrive. No I'll give you a point five
point. Five, David or Ed can jump in
there? I don't know.
It else. David you're out.
I hate to say it, but I can't, I can't bend.
That's right. It was over.
Rev was the was the one over room /. /, red bonus question.
The car the aw element in that in that in that manga.
What color was it? Ed Ed yellow incorrect.
David David White incorrect. Watch, Patrick, Patrick was a
red incorrect. It was blue.
We're sure what kind of company uses a booster jet, 28.
David Suzuki is correct. Bonus question.
What are the three cars that this engine comes out in a head?
Got in there. First, we got it in the Swift.
Yep, you got it in the Vitara. Yep.
And you got it in the what else do they make Swift for Tyra ignis Juni. I think it in the Jimmy
incorrect everyone forgets. I'll give you a point.
Five and mr. Prince, it's that ballet and oh
yes, that does get a reasonably well I know.
It also comes in in the overseas markets in the Essex for s-cross. Let's go check Ed and David
2.58. Patrick and 5 question 6 in what
years did the Mercedes? W210 start and finish.
I'll give you points for egg. Don't worry, David, you get it
from me. Thank you, right?
Yeah, asking. Worldwide are prepping.
I'm just talking my way through it in Australia, we got it in 96 and a feast, you know, to worldwide we're probably talking. I'm going to go 95 and I'm going
to go and I'm going to go through till Because the wagon last a bit longer. I think. 03, absolutely correct.
You got two points there and while them whoo-hoo.
Bonus question, what was the last version of you gets old?
What was the last version of that you intend to get?
So David, the wagon, the wagon is absolutely correct.
Let's take this 7. It was surprisingly.
Now the year question, which is which never happens everywhere?
Just Pretty good in every question 7.
How many years are over? How many years did the BMW E30
run? It, it came out in 80. 80 was
still the old 181 182. I think it came out in 83 and it
ran until 91. So I'm going to go eight years
incorrect. David Davidson Are we talking to
nationally or in Australia internationally?
Yeah, okay, I'll get nine years. Incorrect attack me to go 10.
Patrick, I'll give it to you because you're closes because you need some point. So, you're so cute that's
correct or it's not it went for 12 years roof.
Wow. 93 93 bonus question in what year did it finish?
Officially finished production. David David?
1993 incorrect Army to incorrect ego but if there's another one on a 94 is correct, Patrick? Well done why was it still going
in 94? What was which model might have
been in the wagon? These may be going right through
when the E36. We got a 36 in 91 and Asia with
never got any more e30's, correct.
Yeah. So they kept With the E30, like
I'm making it. So because I think the last
cheeser it might have been the East, the M3 that might keep going for a little bit more. If I have to double-check that
question 8 FB V Footprints vehicles f6e and GTE with a company's luxury models but did the E stand for?
Oh David, David equipment incorrect.
Good guess though. I like that one.
Thank you. They head to e-gas head on it,
which was tougher incorrect. I mean, you only the thought
that answer that mr. Bunting on the Ford guy, you are
now. Yeah, they're definitely still
to equipped. It's kind of a David said so
it's not equipped incompatible. Liddy in the GTS in a minute,
but I will that Patrick finishes his Oh God, I'm just this like extra on a nice Sheen. Create the stood for executive
because it's an executive Mo on a luxury yacht, executive being that the luxury executive, my God that they are anything.
I was actually it's because holding in Mitsubishi as I've had executive for their poverty packs and then forward will.
I know it's a yeah, your car. So this isn't getting it.
To get back to what I was saying about the E10 compatibility, there was a highway patrol officer so that we using GTS, do is to supercharge GTS, any, fill that up with E10, drove it out of the, out of the car park and it blew up.
Well, is that? That's a 20 set, 20 something
thousand dollar engine. So, we'll see our taxpayer money
going to going to a good cause interesting side effect on just any 10 in New South Wales, most regular unleaded.
It is eaten. No, really, yeah?
Really yeah. Yep.
Most service stations, don't give you regular unleaded.
Their regular is, is watered down with Eat Em.
Do they go? Yeah, I wasn't happy about that.
How's your Honda running? It's running pretty warm.
Well, I actually thank you. Yes.
Yes, but I try and find that certain stations that don't have eaten in their 91 Maple, 95 minutes couple of times for that reason. Chris apology, expected question
9. What current camera this week
was retired? David David, it was the last
Commodore police car. Absolutely.
It was the last kind of police car, which is they're putting it in a museum, which is a fitting end to something interesting side note, I did see a white New South Wales police Pajero today.
Yes, it's still one going funny, funny, you say that because mine came from in between the Blue Mountains and orange.
I really there's a town. Cold Port Campbell up there
somewhere, I think it was its inventor, tiny little, one-horse town and that's where mine was stationed.
Your problem is probably the one you saw.
David is probably its replacement of it was like, well, if they would have had about ten replacement since then because that's exactly where I saw it.
Yeah, question 10. They only have them.
Sorry about the only have pajaros and Prados and things in Country, police stations and they in New South Wales and they all have bull bar Tobias bodies and Winches, that's the standard country, top-spec kit standard spec.
So I checked Patrick on 2.5, David and Edward are, 14.5,
each. So, next question is the is the
decider question 10. How many versions of the
Mitsubishi? Evolution Lancer were made?
I've dated Patrick just oh, I'll Sation hoodie on my end.
I had Patrick first, okay? So obviously, you had the GSR,
then you had evo2, then you had the three, four, five, six, seven, also. Yes, o 10/10 is absolutely
correct. But I don't why I was a bit GSR
those candles the GSR then 2 3 episode 10.
Yep. Absolutely correct.
Well done, well done. So that means we've got a tie
for first place. So, that means I have to go and
ask you guys another question to see, who was listening the most during my spiel about the Amara. Do you do?
So, this is a question. This is the, this is the
decider. With the first generation in my
do. In the early stages of the of
their development and sorry early stages of their, of their production, I can say what seem to have issues with their David.
David, the dropping out of 50 gear, this gear is absolutely correct. David.
You are the champion for tonight.
Well done. Thank you.
Thank you very much. Thank you.
Is anyone you want to thank David?
