So you know, the aliens are coming out of the ocean and all that stuff. So is there any conspiracy you

But anyway, let's get on with some car updates.

Don't don't have a lot going on this week.

You're still taking the Honda Jazz to work, still on that same tank of fuel. I'm thinking of actually running

the 711 mobile fuel that, you know, saves you petrol on doing my own experiment. I know, Scotty, you were doing

an experiment a little while back.

Maybe you've got some results to share with us on that.

Yeah, I mean, I haven't noticed anything.

Yeah, I'm, I'm suspecting it's going to be the same result for me. Yeah, but mine's just going to

be a one to one, like one regular fill up.

I think my last fill up was at Costco and this one will be mobile. And then it turns out they're

the same fuel anyway, so I don't there's no change.

Yeah but my brother in law borrowed the DMX.

I think he's taken the Rexy for a service.

So I've just got the empty driveway with just just the old Jazz sitting there. Might take the STI to work on

Friday for fun. Car Friday, but we'll see how

the weather turns out. Chad updates with you.

It's yeah, been pretty quiet this week actually since last week, just mainly because it was so hot on the weekend.

So didn't know I'm doing really anything at all.

I think just got a couple of things delivered that I've been waiting for, for the Tarago bits and pieces and.

When did you get delivered? The supercharger.

Yeah, Yeah, the you know, the one with the real long shaft.

Just a just a little badge. Oh, nice.

And just a thermostat. No.

What do you call it? Sorry.

Radiator cup, because I think mine is leaking.

Yeah. No, it's been, yeah, it's been

very quiet on the car stuff, but I'm hoping to get some Merck stuff on this weekend as I think the weather's going to be a little better. So I want to crack into that.

Yeah, that's all for me. So I think we need to do ADTM

delivery on that car. Oh well, it's definitely on the

cards. Either that or maybe even a a

cigarette brand, we'll say I just want to slap some paint on it first and then I can decide it, Yeah.

Not much the mechanic that's supposed to do the roadworthy for the W210 done a hemi trying to push a car out of the garage.

Oh jeez. So you get the cancel on my

roadworthy and and I still haven't booked it back in because he's busy as. So, so this is the this is the

210, the E 4/30, correct? 4:30 Yeah, yeah.

So that's been cancelled. So I haven't got that road

worthy. So I got the HVAC fixed on that.

Oh, what a pain. Took the HVAC, the fan wasn't

working and the controller wasn't working.

And a lot of people reckon that's a like a resistor on top of the fan that fails. Well, I should have checked the

fan first because it was actually the fan motor, not the resistor, a replacement after rewiring everything.

And because the resistor wasn't exactly the same, the wiring wasn't the same. Set the solder up new wires and

fiddle around with it and got it all sorted out.

Put it all up there. It still didn't work.

It's a fan. So then I have to retrofit the

fan from my other W 210, which is E320, which is a manual controller, not a digital controller.

Yeah. So it's slightly different.

Everything's different. Even the the housing for the

motor is slightly different and strange.

But anyway, same same generation, but different, different, Yeah. So anyway, swap the fan across

the fan motor across that fitted and everything's working now.

So I've got the HVAC fan fan. Working.

There we go. Nice, good a job.

Bit of fiddling, bit of fiddling, but it was easy to get to. It's not too bad.

It's just underneath the passenger glove box.

You take the covers off, it's all there.

You don't have to pull dashes out and do all sorts of stupid things. Oh nice.

Real easy to work on, real good. So I've got that sorted out,

that Harley got his parts where he's new, coil packs and plugs through his C63 because that's running real bad.

No, really. Looks like some of the ones

misfiring. So we think it's a coil pack.

So we bought a new coil pack for it all, all four of them, because there's two per bank. Harley doesn't want me to touch

it. He reckons I'll stuff it up, so

he wants a mechanic to do it. OK, that's the mechanic's busy

for another three weeks anyway, so it's not going to happen for three weeks. So if he wants to wait, he can

wait. I think it's a pretty easy job.

But anyway, very easy. Core place are very easy, yes.

Yeah, but there's a lot of covers, the air intakes, everything has to come off because the the turbos are on top. So a lot of stuff has to come

off to get to it. And then there's fuel injector

rails in the way as well. It's it's a bit more complicated

on the C63 than a normal core packet like on ALS motor or anything like that or a Commodore.

So anyway, there's that no more work on the 380 SEC, no more work on Harley's E3E36 AMG was we're getting the roof rails painted and the bumper bar repainted so that that's going to be all touched up hopefully shortly.

Apart from that, that's about all on the car front.

We did go to tough streeters of that call the park.

What was that? I heard it was good.

It was good until the crowds got finally got in the gates.

I was going to say, did you get? It well no, we, we couldn't even

get out onto Kings Rd from our house.

There was that many cars down Kings Rd, Killer Mountain highway, call the freeway back to Killer Park drive all the way to call the park, all three lanes, 2 lanes and then where it goes into free all blocked down. Call the park Dr all blocked

from 4:30 to about 7:00 or still stopped.

It took a long time. So we tried to get out in Kings

Rd with the car and we got I said Harley I'm not going Take Me Home or we'll get and we can go on the bike.

And so we decided to hop on the motorbike and ride there.

So we were straight to the front gate, walked straight in.

They didn't even charge us to walk in.

So $35 a head we saved. So that was good.

And then it was because all the crowds are still trying to get in. We walked right through all the,

the displays and stands where you've got a lot of the suppliers who help how tech and guys doing wiring looms and all sorts of things. Joel's hoists were there and so

they, they've given some discounts out for the hoist, a 5% discount if you're there on a day to buy a hoist.

What else is there? So it's all, all the, what I

call them the drifting cars. Were there drag cars?

Were there a whole lot of LS conversions for all sorts of cars? There's AM/4 with an LS in it

and a whole lot of XWS with Barrow Turbos in it.

And that just full on sort of, yeah, some pretty high end cars, some good, some real nice cars, actually real nice cars.

Then, then, then you had your Lambos and your Mclarens and other cars in them, sort of like underneath the cover there.

So it was all pretty good. Yeah.

It was a good day when when the crowds weren't there, it was easy to get around. You could see everything.

Come 7730, you could not move in there.

You're sort of shuffling in there.

The crowds are that big. Yeah.

At call the park. So I, I said to Harley, let's

get out of here. Hopped on the bike and went

bang. Straight out, straight home.

Home in 10 minutes. Yeah, it's good, Yeah.

So yeah, it's it's worthwhile. If you could get in there early

enough and beat the crowds, get to see the cars and all that, it was good. Well, there you go.

I did see they put like a post out about about the event.

Was it in regards to like not people not being able to get in and stuff? Was that what that was about?

Yeah, OK, they're just turning off the colder Hwy onto Killer parked. Calder parked Drive.

It was just stopped trying to get in through the gates.

People parked along the side of the road, the opposite side of the road. People were walking from the

service stations to BP service station.

Yeah, I read that some people were just parked at BP on the other side of the road and then walked across.

Walked across. Yeah, it was big.

It was pretty bad. It's good.

Crossing a a highway. No, it wasn't that hard because

they stopped all the traffic from going down the highway trying to get oh, what? But there's no traffic.

Oh, there's no, no, they've pretty much blocked all the traffic because everyone's trying to cut across from the other lane to get onto call the park drive.

So they've blocked all three lanes, the exit lane and the two lanes trying to get across. So the problem as soon as you

got past the cars was all no traffic.

It was all opened up. You'd be you'd be spewing if you

were just trying to get to the city from the other way.

Well, trying. To go to Bendigo.

So coming back, I'm going towards the city.

Inbound was OK, outbound was stopped.

Wow. Yeah, it was on the Sunbury

community page but. Yeah, you couldn't get to

Sunbury. Yeah, you would have had to go

around through the airport to get to Sunbury.

Well, Paul Scotty just wanted to go see Simba.

He couldn't even do that. Yeah, they would have.

I'm. Happy I'm on the other side so I

don't go that way, yeah. Yeah, it would have been

difficult to get to Water Gardens or get home from Water Gardens, Yeah. People were saying it was taking

like an hour and a half. Yeah.

Just to get home from Water Gardens.

Yeah, and it should be about 25 minutes.

Oh, sure. So yeah, it was a big one.

It was good. Good to see the, the enthusiasm,

the cars, the people getting out.

And there's a, it's amazing how many sleeper cars there are, you know, with, yeah, all sorts of motors in it, just just fantastic. It was good to see a lot, a lot

of engine swaps. It was a Gemini with a Rotary

motor in it and stuff like that. So.

It's cool. Yeah.

Now the person of the moment, Scotty L Johnson.

Yeah. So last time we heard from you,

the gearbox was in Tower shops was in, you were waiting on a few bits of pieces. And now for the ladies and

gentlemen are homeless thing around the world.

What is happening to the 31? Are we?

Are we driving? It's like I need another drum

roll or something. This one's for Mr Rigglesworth

out there because he's I know he's been listening in all the time and doesn't miss a beast. Always asking me is it done, is

it done, is it done? It is done.

My goodness. Couple little hurdles at the end

because I've got the Gregory's book for the R31.

So as I mentioned last week, I had to get a couple bits like the shifter. There was a new shifter rubber

boot I got and a couple of couple of rings I had to get.

There was a snap ring and there's another, another ring, can't remember what they called it, but there's two.

And I was like, OK, one of them says it's the bottom, the other one says it's the upper. And I was like, surely it's not

too oh, I had to get the shifter cup to to put in there.

I'm like, surely it's not too hard.

It looks fairly straightforward. So have a look, put the shifter

cup in there and sits in there. And I was like, OK, that kind of

makes sense with the way it works.

So now it's not fully wobbly. It's in there, it's nice and

tight. OK, that's good.

Then I'm like OK, which ring do I need next?

I'm having a look. OK, OK, looks like the the snap

ring. Problem with the snap ring is

it's not a circlip, so you can't use pliers on it at all because it doesn't have the holes or anything.

It's like OK, this this is going to take a bit to get in there and it did take a bit to get in there.

So I've got that in there that holds the shifter cup in.

OK. But the shifter still pops

straight out and I'm like, OK, but there's nowhere at all where this other circuit goes. And I'm looking at the diagram

in the Gregory's manual and it makes no sense whatsoever of where it goes and how it goes. It's like, what the hell do you

do with this thing? It doesn't fit on top.

It's too small. I'm like, OK, I've got the boot

on. It doesn't wrap around that.

There's no way for it to stop the gear shifter from just popping straight out, and where I got it from, EFI Solutions actually has just a little description and actually says exactly what it's for and where it goes.

All right. So the SO clip sticks out that

little bit more than the snap ring and holds the shifter in there. So instead of having just one

ring to do it all, it's 2. So you got to put in that stupid

snap ring and then you can put the circlet ring in that goes underneath that for some reason, and then it holds it all in.

So in other words, that 5 cent piece Nissan went left Australia because they went bankrupt for putting that extra snap ring in there for no reason at all? Yeah, it was just a pain.

So one of them holds in the shifter cup and then the other one holds in the shifter. And now it doesn't come out.

Doesn't come out. Then I put the boot on it and

then I put everything else on it and done that.

And then I was like, OK, surely bleeding the clutch isn't too bad. Pour some stuff in, pumping

away, pumping away. OK, this is taking forever

because it's just hitting the floor obviously.

And pump, pump, pump, pump, pump.

And I was doing it like like if I was doing breaks and supposedly I was doing it wrong. So because I had it a little bit

opened and pumping and as well as just pumping out.

The fluid. So it turns out I'm going to

give it a few pumps, go back underneath, release it a little bit, you get air out and then it starts to trickle.

Tighten it up again, go back underneath, pump, pump, pump, pump, pump. Go underneath, do it again until

you get a point where it starts to fill and then you get to a point where you'll loosen it off and you'll just get a triple.

You won't get that air bubble or anything coming out.

And I was like, OK, now I learned something new.

And then it felt exactly the way it should.

I was like, OK, here we go, let's start her up.

Took a bit to kick over. I must say it took a bit, but it

started and I was like, OK, let's put it into first and see how it goes. Eased on the clutch.

I was like, OK, it's catching, it's catching, it's doing what it should do. Crept it forward and it moved,

put into reverse. It rolled backwards into reverse

and then it was the next big step.

I had to take it out for a drive.

So Scotty, just just just to stop you there, did, did this moment feel like you were like, Oh my God, it's actually happening. It's, it's, it's, it's working.

Were you like Anakin's phone number in, you know, in the 1st?

Yeah, it's working. It's working like when you're

having that kind of moment. Probably more scary still

because I thought, oh, here we go.

I'm going to take it out on the road and I'll be on the side of the road going trying to get a tow truck or something because it's like nothing ever goes this smoothly.

No way. So I was still stressing a bit.

So Dad came along with me and sat in the passenger seat.

So at least I got someone to talk to if I broke down.

Took it out, didn't have to adjust the clutch pedal.

It was exactly where I like it. So a little bit just under kind

of halfway of where it grabs. So because I kind of like it a

little bit lower than right at the top, so it caught nicely.

Very easy clutch to use. I was.

Unsure if it was going to be fairly heavy because it was an exceeding 1 so I was unsure if they got some heavy duty one or not but by the feel of it I don't think so must have been just like a you know you can get stock replacement ones yeah eating mate probably one of those.

I'd say it was, yeah. Roads through the gears, really,

really nice through all 5, nice and smooth down shifts nice and smooth. Couple of instances it kind of

did not want to go on reverse as nicely, so I put it over there and try and get in reverse and it's like that was when I was trying to reverse it back into the tight spot back at my parents place. It was on a bit of an incline

and kind of didn't want to go on to reverse, so I let it roll forward again to where it was more flatter and then it kind of slotted. In Yeah.

Yeah, so I don't know, it just wasn't too happy with reverse, but I was like, Oh well, it's only reverse.

At least all the other five work.

Yeah, that was probably the point that I was super wrapped.

I was like Oh my God, it's like it's it's done.

It's drives really well. I forgot how nice it feels with

all fresh bushes, suspension and everything.

Also forgot what brakes feel like in older cars coming from what I've got in the car at the moment so.

Considering the brakes I've got in the blade coming to this, I was like coming to the ramp out like I normally would and I like hit on the brakes where I'd normally press and like, oh geez, press more. It's not stopping like I'm used

to. So here's what you'll do.

You'll think the endless brakes off the off the blade and put them on the on the Skyline. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Just need some bigger rotors or something to go with it to stop a bit, a little bit better, but it'll do.

It'll do for now. It's just a nice cruiser and

just was very comfortable and easy to go through the gears.

It might have start to overheat a little bit.

It was Saturday, it was hot. I was trying to reverse it into

a little tight spot on an incline and kind of revving it a bit more to get it up there. And look, I haven't driven a

manual for a bit, so I'm happy to admit I was probably riding it a tad bit. Couldn't smell clutch, so that's

good. But I'll be riding it a bit

anyway. So it just looked like it might

have been creeping up and get pretty hot under there.

So it. Wasn't it wasn't getting super

hot though, was it? It was just, it just creeped up

a touch. Yeah, but I don't know how

accurate it is. That's why I wanted to gauge.

So yeah, I mean under it when I lift up the bonnet, like I couldn't really touch anything under there.

It was pretty freaking hot. Yeah, everything would be hot

under there. Yeah, Scotty, did you have to

replace the radiator? Yeah, it's got a brand new

radiator. Have you done have you done the

thermostat as well? I'm pretty sure I did, and I did

top and bottom hoses, yeah, because originally it had a big split in the radiator. So I took that out and I'm

pretty sure I did everything from memory.

But I'm pretty sure I did do everything because it was easy to get to probably. The next big thing you need to

do to that car is probably the towing belt and motor park.

I'd say that'll probably be your next big thing you'll probably look at doing. Yeah, just to make sure

everything's done, you know, And then I'll ask you 10 years, 100% case. Timing belt is yeah, I already

said yeah, timing belt and that's going to be the next thing. I'm not going to do that though.

I'm going to for someone. Yeah, I'm upset.

I think I'm done for a bit, like someone to do that bit.

I'm too scared to do timing belts and stuff really.

I don't want to stuff it up. Yeah.

I've never done it before and I just want to make sure it's done right. It's set, right?

Yeah. You know, I don't want to mess

around with that kind of stuff. And.

The RB 30 is an interference engine right?

It is. So the consequences of mistiming

that can be somewhat more catastrophic than something like maybe the old MX5. Yeah.

It'll die. I did jump on GK tech and I've

got the right size piping in that so I can put in a temperature gauge, and while I was on their site, they've got a better clutch fan too. Oh cool, yeah, definitely get

one of those. I'd probably.

That's meant to flow 40% better and that's 3% better than the RB25 ones. And a lot of people have got the

RB 30s upgrade to the RB25 ones. OK, that's more of an upgrade,

upgrade. Yeah, nice.

So have you ordered that to you on it?

It's just arrived. Oh, perfect.

I've got both things that arrived today.

Awesome SO. You're looking for a gate.

Well, I am I put AI put a cobalt one in mine, automate a cobalt one. But I've you've used the SAS one

before and stuff too, and they all like they're they're pretty good. They they work fine on the

forester because it stupid thing doesn't have a doesn't have a gauge. It's just got a it's just got a

red light and a blue light. So if time we hit red light,

it's too late. Yeah, would be.

I see. Yes, dumb, as dumb as the other.

I put the SAS, you know, hose like it's like a it's like a connector that you just cut your hose in half, work it in and then put the and then with the gauge and you just wire it up accordingly and it's then it you know, it's very accurate.

I think it's the best thing I ever put for that car to, to be safe. It was that good that I gave

when I did it. I gave it to my sister said look

at the gauge and she didn't do it when they're ready in the crack. Did you as you guys know about

that so? You stand upset.

Maddie seems to be bothering you a little bit still.

Yeah, I'm trying to tidy you back up after after her ownership, but. You're probably just, yeah,

Steph just comes back one day after work, like, oh, yeah, this is wrong with the car. And you're like, since when you

call your sister, she's like, oh, yeah, no, that happened a while ago. Why don't you tell me?

She she's like to me, she's like, oh, you, you gave me a limit. I'm not, I'm like, I'm like, no,

that was the original radio that had done 300,000 KS that that let go. That was the original clutch

that after 267,000 KS would let go.

You know, she's like she's like, oh, like like they're just wear and tear items. So you know, it's don't even be

started about it. But anyway, so.

But Scotty, I'm more than happy to help.

Wire that up for your eye and put it in.

That would be cool because yeah, I'm not wouldn't know where to start when it comes to wiring it up, that kind of stuff.

I haven't done wiring jobs and things inside, yeah, but yeah, wiring up, not so much. Yeah, that's easy.

I've done, I've done that before.

You said the top hose is pretty new, so we'll just reuse that.

Yeah, because I was trying to remember, I was going back in time with my mind of the things that I've done to it.

And I'm I'm pretty confident that I did do top bottom radiator hoses just had full flush obviously and everything brand new radiator in there. I'm pretty sure I did thermostat

at the same time. I could say I wouldn't of.

Yeah, just because if it was creeping up a lot, I probably would say, oh, maybe the thermostat hasn't opened up, I mean too much. So would that would be the next

thing. Look at getting changed.

So I'm leaving my voice, guys. I've been screaming a lot at

school today. So, yeah, I think that I think I

think the gate is probably, you know, probably the next big step that in the. Yeah.

I mean, it's what's there on the cluster is not very accurate to begin with, so I didn't want to trust it too much.

But if it was creeping up a bit, then maybe it was getting a little bit hot, yeah. I would say depending on where

you're wanting to mount the gauge, you can buy like a little cup or you can buy, you know, other things.

But you, you'd be surprised people 3D print stuff for them now. So you like I 3D printed the

temperature gauge for the for the Forester like to go in the vent. I just 3D printed one at work

and that works perfectly fine. So and it's not in the way and

it's pretty discreet. So that's always an option to if

you find one. I know a guy that's got access

to six 3D printers so. Yeah, I'm just trying to figure

out what kind of gauge. I reckon I'm just going to buy a

gauge and stick with that for a bit until I find one later on down the track that I like. Yeah, because I want to kind of

get it to fit the old look because it's an 80s car.

So I want to kind of get it to fit that kind of style at the same time so. 100%. And I'll just go with a good SAS

one that will work fine for now and I can kind of look.

Yeah. And and do you feel that like

the SAS ones, they're, they've got a very similar typeface to, to the to what's on the 31. So the ones we sell, it's super

cheaper virtually that so. So Scotty said Haltech ECU and

and LCD display is out of the question.

I mean, it would be the top tier kind of thing would be great.

But, you know, unfortunately there's this thing called funds and money, and then these things called bills that keep coming.

Well, put it this way, Rob, if he blows it up and I'll be 26 is going in. So that's that's the next.

Step. Why don't you?

I don't know what I do. I'll be 26.

Probably too expensive. I get a 25, I get a 2520. 5 or I

find another 130 and just build it a bit.

I I just had an eBay suggestion on Facebook.

I'll be 2619 grand. You know what?

I mean, maybe it's fake. 19 grand?

No way. That's an insane amount of

money. I honestly think you could

probably get a 25 Neo and then pop that in it and I think you'll be they're pretty strong, very reliable from what I've heard. So I think that'll be we'll

just, we'll just. Put a 25 head on the 30 get.

Extra. Cubes, yeah, or you just keep

the RV, 30 head studs, triple plate gasket and you make 300 all day every day. All day, that is true, yeah.

So plenty of options, Scotty, plenty of options.

Or just a barrer. But.

There's kits and stuff for engine mounts and not to put a barrer in them too. You've got Rob's attention now.

Yeah, from the bar of the world or something.

Yeah. There, there's some interesting

talk I saw on a lot of the barrows now where you're not as successful just getting a green top and, you know, doing doing the valve springs and everything else and going at it anymore.

Yeah, just because a lot of them, they at least this is from one particular engine builder, I forget who's exactly I watched, but they talked about a lot of the ones that come in with the green top. That green top's got a

questionable history at this point. 500,000 K's.

Yeah, like you don't know how many K it's done and how it's already been thrashed. And so you can't just just do

the springs and go at it. They're usually gonna, you know,

spin something and then you're gonna be up for rebuild.

So it's not as economical as it used to be.

Well, they used to be really, you know, cheap because, you know, a lot of dedicated Falcons like got written off, you know, early in their lives had 30-40, fifty, 6070 thousand KS on them.

Yeah. So they were pretty, you know,

they're still pretty fresh like now like the motor that my brother's got in his car. So that was, that was actually

an ex taxi engine with like 900,000 KS on it or something ridiculous. So he took the original numbers

about your F6 engine out and then put a, you know, a built taxi motor in it. And now now that makes, you

know, all the power in the world.

But like, you know, the the 2K Barry joke, it's it like it's like all things like they're they're an old car, they're an old engine at the end of this at the end of the day, right.

So, you know, it's hard to find a hard to find a good one, yes.

It doesn't have that they're being shipped overseas, that ludicrous rights and it's just the the supply dwindling and.

billet block, a billet Barrow block recently.

He's like, it'll probably get me 40,000 KS and then I have to rebuild it again. I'm like, what do you mean?

He's like, you know, all the boost, you know, it's got all race Pistons, all right, You know, all race bearings and everything. Yeah, tighter, a lot tighter

tolerances to make that power. You know that they, it's a race

engine at this point. It's a race engines.

They're not meant to last. They went to perform for a short

amount of time and well, and then that's it.

So that kind of that kind of shocked me, but but he's, he's like, look, I don't drive it all the time anyway.

So this will, this will last me till, till the end of time.

So, yeah, it's interesting to to hear that, that Scotty as well about builder blocks, you know, because I, I guess they would be, they'd be a bit they're they're a lot harder to cool.

much really, just I've had, I've had a busy weekend, but I was keeping on on track with, with Scotty's updates in the group chat. So, so Scotty, it's just, I was

living vicariously through you and your car updates.

So it was good. It was good to see.

Moving on to tonight's topic, cars in 2024 are now listening to us. So car makers, you know, people

are accusing them of spying on us and also giving data to insurance companies and to other companies selling our data, which is which is coming back to affect us and bite us in the backside when it comes to insurance, insurance prices.

So for example, you might be driving your car and you might be driving it like a bit of a cock and your, let's say a company says to your insurance company, yeah, we've got that guy on file his or he drives like he drives like a complete tool. Your premium is going to

straight up. So there's that.

There's those issues, there's people, you know, like, but like you're giving your basic, your basic and look, I'm, I'm a person that's done this as well with my, with my Fiesta, you know, that's got 4 pass and you, you log in and you have an account and you can unlock and lock your car and all that stuff. But you know, it asks you for

your name, your email address, your phone number, your gender.

You just see that and before you know it they've got a profile and you like can start selling it around to people.

What's the terms and conditions saying that that say that they can and might sell your? Well, that's a great question.

Cause a lot of the terms cause like every time you start the car, you know, especially on modern car, it's like, you know, be sure to be safe and you, you press OK and just OK, OK, OK, OK. I just want to get through to it

with the way I want it. And, and that's, it's all in

there essentially. So, yeah, some people have got

the issues now, like the cars are listening to them because they've got obviously, you know, Siri and all that stuff in the, you know, in the cars and built in, in Google Play and sorry, Google, you know, I hate, I hate Google.

And it gets you wondering, you know, what else is it listening to? Like is it listening to your to

your discussions about politics? Is it listening to your

discussions about, you know, family life?

Is it taking photos of your kids and stuff, which is which is happened with Tesla, you know, the video footage of the inside of the car and they're selling it.

And there's been there's been things coming out about Tesla.

Some of the employees have been sharing, you know, people's pictures and photos and videos of what's happening in their cars. That that was a bit of a leak

that came out and people are not happy.

But also, like, you know, people do backseat romps in the back of in cars and you know, that could be all recorded.

Yes, stuff like that. That's you know, you know that

that's that's the thing that you guys might say, Oh, but what about these your phones, you know, that's recording everything you're saying. That is true to an extent, but

cars are saying what you're driving, you're driving habits, all these things and are selling your data.

Now, I don't know about you guys, but it's kind of, it's kind of waking me up a little bit because it's, you know, if it's, if it's, if it's selling my data, if I like drive really, really well. But then like on a good Rd where

you know, like we, we like to go about a little toy guy for a bit says, oh, hang on a minute, this guy's driving, you know, putting some GS and doing some, doing some, doing some skiddies.

Now we're going to increase his premium by, you know, 45600 bucks. It's a big, it's a big

difference. And it's a bit unfair that

they're able to do those sort of things.

It's like Big Brothers watching. So gentlemen, I wanted to get

your thoughts on this about the, you know, the the increases and stuff. And what do you think could be,

you know, the outcome of this? And do you think that this is

just how it's going to be, especially with with modern cars and modern technology? So I'll leave it in your capable

hands. Oh.

I feel this is a little bit newer here in Australia, more so than the US, because the US especially have always had services like Starlink, not to be confused with the Internet service that, you know, they basically link a satellite slash cellular service to your car and it's added safety.

You can call an ambulance if you're in an accident, you know, like you know, they'll they'll speak into you a little speaker be like, hello Sir, are you OK? You know, do you need an

ambulance and that kind of stuff and you can use to connect to your garage, which, you know, you can do that with a an app and a small dog we can buy from Amazon anyway.

But that's, that's got its own spying issues.

I guess it's just that an evolution of a lot of that where so many of these cars were already kind of, we'll call it connected to the greater web, you know.

Yeah, for so long it was only a matter of time before, you know, as cars would just get more and more telemetric air to that kind of stuff. I remember years ago there was

the gentleman that decided to drift a malou around and once it blew out the bottom end, HSV decides to refuse his warranty due to driver abuse. And that was a more basic level

of data collection where the car's logging all this data and once the dealership pulls it, it reveals the scandalous behaviour of the driver. Whereas these days you don't

need to pull into the dealership, it's already sent live as it's happening. It's an inevitable kind of

evolution. I'm not surprised, but at the

same time it is deeply shocking that like you'll hit agree on, you know, your little infotainment system when you start the car that says, you know, always be safe this and that. Further terms and conditions can

be found here. Next thing you know, you've

agreed to like a 60 page legal document that says, yes, you they can sell your data to the highest bidder.

You know, they could possibly send it to North Korea or whatever they want to. Like, you don't know what you're

agreeing to. And a lot of times the like

there have been at this point, I think multiple cases in the states where, yeah, they provide the information to a couple of aggravated companies who then moving on to insurance companies who then increase your premium. And you've got like no recourse

on that. Like, what do you say?

All right, fine. I'll stop giving you my data

now. They've already got your data.

They already know that you might like to occasionally accelerate, you know, a little bit harshly. And now your your premium has

gone, you know, up 3040%. You're basically already screwed

because at this point if you say no, I'll drive a different car, your insurance is going to really change their mind.

In America, that data could end up with the health insurance and get you out of quiet and stuff. You're over too, because I

always go over so much in America.

And yeah, they'd be happy with that kind of data.

That that is also true. And I'm just logged into my my

Ford Pass and it's come up with the same thing because it's got an update and it says basically, if you like, there's no, there's no option to not to not accept. Like you have to accept.

Otherwise it says, you know, I've read the thing.

You cannot use it if, if you do not accept, you know, all cars are fitted with, you know, a cellular modem in them now.

So, you know, that's, it's just, it's an interesting, yeah, it's interesting that you can't even that you can't even, you know, you can't even do that. So I don't know guys selling

your data, especially to like, you know, foreign countries and and, and yeah and stuff like that.

Advertising AG. Agent like, like next thing you

know, it's like the cars like breaks down at the front of the Ford dealership. So you go in and buy another

car, you know, like, oh, there's a Ford district.

I want to just stop. You know, it's, you know, it's,

it's, you think that might, that might be where it's heading, you know, and it's, and that's, that's a scary thought.

I mean, originally it was kind of, it seemed cool because it would figure out if you're on a race track or not and unlock certain functions for you on a race track.

Yeah. I can't remember which company

did that, but there was one that did that.

I believe the GTR did that, Finisson that especially USB Limited. And then as soon as you're on

racetrack, the GPS would say, all right, he's here, Racetrack Unlimited, you know. Yeah.

So, you know, those kind of functions to figure out that I thought, you know, that's pretty cool.

But now it just seems to be advancing more and more and more. And I think the one that I would

be fairly scared of, and I'll put my tinfoil hat on nice and tight, is probably Tesla. Oh yeah, Tesla's probably the

worst offender. I think that's the one that I'd

be petrified of if I had one because of how high tech it is, the amount of downloads and software updates to run through it. And you know, I mean, probably

by now it does the old Elon Musk's salute.

I don't know. Reward you when you drive well.

If you take your hands off the steering wheel, it won't let you use it the cruise control again until you stop the car and start again because you took your hand off the steering wheel.

Well, see, I was just about to ask you Rob, like like how have you found it with with Tesla, like like with your Tesla in particular? It's it can be annoying, but

then again, my daughter's got a a Havel Jolly on, she reckons all the safety devices are very annoying on that as well.

But yeah, and, and who knows what boards in that car as well.

But yeah. Exactly.

Right. I think, yeah, I it's good

because especially if you're a distracted driver, if you got ADHD or whatever, it'll tell you to sort of start, you know, looking towards the road or it'll tell you to have a break.

It'll chime and all that stuff's good, but it actually records it. And that's probably not the good

thing. Yeah.

Well, especially like how that story came about about Tesla employees watching videos of people inside their cars with the with the recordings. Well, they could.

And, and sharing it to, you know, other employees, I'll say, oh, look at this again. Oh, you know, and, and that's,

but you remember, like that's your personal stuff.

Like you got, you got kids in the car, you got you, you're very vulnerable in your car. Like you'd be talking, having

conversations too to like Sykes my.

Safe. It's my safe singing space.

I love it because I would see my wife carrying all the shopping to the car if I want to know where she is exactly when she's walking to the car. But she actually did more which

door she opened, who else hopped into the car.

And it's like that kind of kind of thing.

yes, Yeah. I feel in some aspects he's more

like the bad guy from The Incredibles, yeah.

Basic isn't it how like they they they dangle this all these features to you on a Tesla. So if you, if you drive it

nicely and you and you, you're not harsh and that they give you these added features for, for your car, so you can play with these little toys and keep you distracted with the little toys when you get home. I, I don't know, it just it, it

that they, they're treating people like imbeciles and children. And and that's like you paid for

this car, Rob, it is yours. If now before I get, you know,

crisified by people, if they're listening, if you want to drive that car at, you know, 180 kilometres an hour and wrap it around a tree while texting, that is technically something that you can or should be able to do and then take responsibility for afterwards. You know, this is this is the

American libertarian enemy coming out.

You know, you, you I bought this thing.

It it shouldn't be up to the company to say, hey, I think you're being naughty here. I'm going to, you know,

reprimand you by not letting you use your cruise control.

It shouldn't be up to them if a, you know, police officer witnesses you doing something, you know, incorrect on the road, if they should be able to stop you because they have the authority under the law to stop you possibly, you know, give you a ticket, whatever, sort you out.

That's that's what we as society have agreed to.

We haven't agreed to Elon Musk and his, you know, cronies deciding that, you know, Rob shouldn't be able to use his cruise control because he was looking away from this thing or he wasn't holding the steering wheel.

Yeah, just crazy. And then another stupid thing

about it. It's supposed to be so very

smart. I don't know if you've seen that

recent clip on Facebook where Tesla stopped in the tunnel and caused a massive pile up and just stopped for no reason.

And that actually does happen. For some reason.

The car stops and you've got to put your exhilarator take off or else you're going to get a pile up.

It's crazy. There is a fault, inherent fault

with the cars because it's picking up signs and it from the the slip lane instead of the sign on the main road.

So it's gone from, you know, you're on 100 or 80 kilometre sign on the slip lane and all of a sudden it thinks it's still in 80 kilometres an hour. So it slows you down.

Yeah. Wow.

Yeah, it's not good. So those aids in the Tesla like

the how it can read signs and whatnot, that's like, is it just in like is it always on? No, it's only when you've got

your cruise control on. So if you're driving normally,

oh. Right.

Yeah, and. All that on.

It's like one of the levels of automated driving.

It's just adaptive cruise control.

But yeah, OK, it's a. Bit more higher level, but it's

really not. It keeps it in and it'll, yeah,

it'll keep it at distance from other cars and it'll slow down sometimes at different speed limits.

When you choose to. Yeah, I know this is, you know,

a bit of a Tesla bashing, but unfortunately they're the ones sometimes with the most egregious kind of, you know, situations here. Like we we discussed phones,

how, you know, in a lot of ways your phone can and will spy on you. But a lot of that can be set if

you are genuinely, you know, privacy conscious.

You can turn off your location data.

You can make sure you'd only use apps that that are absolutely necessary, only make phone calls or even make phone calls through an encrypted app, that sort of thing.

You've got that opportunity. Whereas just with the

infotainment screen, even on the D Max, if I don't hit accept, if I don't accept their terms and conditions, I don't get to listen to my radio. Yeah.

Yeah. Like.

Yeah. So you're gonna lock me out of

things I've paid for? Yeah, You know.

But it's not so much terms and conditions, it's more like just it says something like be aware, do not use the screen while you drive. That's kind of it, isn't it?

Because that's my car does that and also my wife's car as well.

But it's not so much like, you know, if you press, if you accept, you accept all the terms and conditions of this car or entertainment or whatever. Yeah.

I think also like it's when it's when you like get into your car and like, especially when it doesn't update or, or like you first get it, you know, you can accept it.

Or if, if like, I don't know if you've got an app on your phone chat for, for the Hyundai, but like, you know, it, I think it's where it gets you there as well. So it's, there's different

options and obviously every, every company does it differently. Yeah, but it's still, it's still

going to get you, you know, you know, it'll, it'll still get you like, and you know, we all bring modern cars to an extent.

But has board and not only step forward the Toyota being criticised with all these apps and all that on their cars and whatnot and what they're actually taking off you.

And when you're first setting up your all the apps, yeah, absolutely. And they're taking yeah.

And you can actually not accept it in a Toyota apparently.

But then you lose a lot of features.

That's what I understand. So obviously, again, things are

different in the States to here. An ABC report from October had

Tesla collecting voice and video and they share some data with third parties. Hyundai shares voice recognition

and other data with third parties.

Key is the same. Mazdaq collects and shares

driving data as well as voice consumption data, whatever that is, that's. Brutal.

MG collects driver data, unclear if shared.

Of course is shared with the CCP, but that's you know, Ford shares driver data, but not biometric data.

Toyota shares collection shares driver data, including driver behaviour and vehicle location, but not biometric data.

And then Isuzu, Subaru, Mitsubishi do not collect or share driver data in Australia. OK.

So at least that's, you know, from since October, that's what these companies are doing in Australia.

That may change over time. I don't doubt it will.

It's yeah, like I think kind days teaching AI models using people's voice or something, which again, like if you, if you're not fully understanding what you're consenting to, what they're collecting, it's really unethical for them to be collecting this data. Well, you know, to add to that,

according to Mozilla research, you know, brands like BMW, Ford to like Tesla, Kia, Subaru, etcetera can collect personal data such as sexual activity, immigration status, race, facial expressions, weight, health and genetic information as well as where you where where you drive to.

This data is being gathered by sensors, microphones, cameras and phones and devices drives drivers connecting their cars as well as the cars, apps, company websites, dealerships, vehicle telematics, etcetera. Brands that excel can share or

sell this to to third parties. Car brands also take much of

this data to use it to develop in inferences where drives intelligence and abilities, characteristics, preferences and more. So that's that's kind of a

scary, a scary, you know, proposition to I'm.

Just I'm just imagining some person in the States was like, you know what, that's it. I'm not taking my car to

dealership anymore and then bam, they send like immigration Customs Enforcement to the house.

They're like, is it illegal? Get him stitch you out

immediately. Would you like to know if you

put on a little bit of weight and if they had load sales in the seats and stuff like that? They say, hey, you need to look

at, you know, your diet. No.

What's your nearest? Gym Rob Yeah, it's it's, it's

gonna do that, Scott. It's gonna go here's your gym

and you'll be pulling into Marcus and and the stereo will be fighting you and just go straight past.

In some ways it's more so to prevent I guess or prevent congestion in the big cities. But there is there is some of

The cop knows you're drunk, but unless the cop can prove that he had a good reason to pull you over, the entire court case can get thrown out because they need to justifiably, you know, get you and then start the the procedure of being like, Sir, have you had anything to do today?

You could do the fuel sobriety and then that finally justifies the actual breathalyser test and that sort of thing.

In some ways I'm like, look, if the person's just drunk, they should be on the road. There's that.

But the other part of me like, really, really respects the idea that you have to follow the procedure even if you're the good guys. And that's where I feel like

these car companies, they're trying to be the good guys because they're gonna, you know, like get your telemetry data and, you know, help you out and make sure you're being a better driver. But it's like, no, you're doing

the wrong thing. You're collecting it secretly.

You're punishing me in ways that you shouldn't be able to punish me. And then you're also, you know,

screwing me over in, in financially, you know, by by selling my information. Like no, you go back to the

proper channels, Tell me up front say hey, can we steal all your and see how many people say yes?

Because probably some people will no doubt, but a majority of people be like, no, get out of here.

Yep. I reckon it boils down to two

things. Make money and save money.

That's why they're doing it. That's it, yeah.

Guaranteed. Well, you gotta remember too,

like that money's the all these companies have to make more money every year for their stakeholders, right?

Yeah, like every year, like the stakeholders like, well, we need to make an extra $40 billion then last year, like if you want me to keep investing so. So yeah.

And by doing this like, well, we haven't made many much money on selling cars, but if we can make money by selling data to other companies for them to use it, they'll pay us.

And yeah, sure, let's make it up that way.

And and for me, that's, that's a scary thought.

Like, like, I hate to put my Orwellian hat on, but you know, this is this is 1984 in 2020 has.

Become such a valuable commodity.

Not. It is worth an insane amount of

money, just like having data on large amounts of populations.

You know you can be potentially blackmail a person.

But more more importantly, you can probably just nudge them into certain directions, certain purchases.

You can potentially, you know, sway an election if you have enough data enough. That's why using that data.

Well, I mean, I mean, you can get Hank Scorpio, sorry, I mean Elon Musk, you know, if you're if you're if you're, if you say to your like, for example, Rob, if you say to your wife in the car, maybe we should sell, maybe we should think about selling the Tesla. It might just like malfunction

and say, Oh no, you need to buy a new one or, you know, and.

Each other drive to the dealership to sell it.

technologies, two of these cars, yeah, they make them as a throwaway cartoon. But in the future, the batteries

might be cheap enough to replace as well.

So it might make the cars, I don't know, they've got all the data. They might be able to sort of

prolong your battery life. And then there might be a lot of

good things with it as well. Yeah, I don't know.

Every every single like I guess new inventional technology that we kind of build has the potential to do great things and it always has potential to do disastrous things.

Nuclear energy and nuclear warfare, like the the two, you know, size of the same coin where you can make potentially endless amounts of energy for, you know, what is very little environmental cost, assuming you don't have a nuclear meltdown, which, you know, hopefully you don't.

But at the same time, you can also just make bombs that'll clear out cities like nobody's business from that, from that same stuff. And fortunately, it just seems

that the people on top these days are always trying to push the bad thing. Yeah.

This is actually really interesting and I might put this on our on our on our pages In another first for Mozilla's privacy not included research, none of the brands meet Mozilla's minimum security standards.

So like so like that of all the ones they researched, none of them, none of them do. Specifically, researchers

couldn't confirm whether the any of the brands encrypt or all of the personal information they store on vehicles.

And only one of the brands, Mercedes, even replied to Mozilla's questions about encrypted, the newest edition of P and I. So P and I stands for Where was

it? Privacy Not Included examines

the privacy and security flaws of car brands spanning 5 countries, the US, Germany, Japan, France and South Korea.

Researchers spent 600 hours reading privacy policies, downloading apps and corresponding with brands.

The full methodology can be found out.

The very worst offender is Nissan.

The Japanese car manufacturer admits in their privacy policy to collecting a wider range of information including sexual activity, health diagnosis data and genetic data, but doesn't specify how. They say they can share and sell

customers preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, predispositions, behaviour, attitudes, intelligence, abilities and aptitudes to data brokers, law enforcement and other third parties.

The other top offenders included Volkswagen, which collects demographic data like age and gender and driving behaviours like your seat belt and breaking habits for targeted meeting marketing purposes. Toyota, which features an

incomprehensible Galaxy of 12 privacy documents, Kia, whose privacy policy states that they can collect information about your sex life and Mercedes Benz, which manufacture certain models with the TikTok app installed, pre installed.

Analysts estimate by 20-30 car data monetization could, could be an industry worth $750 billion.

Oh, jeez. So I thought that, that, that

bit of that would be, that's just insane to read that.

And, and, and I'm gonna, I'm gonna link that because that, that's a huge, like, that's, that's a massive thing for car companies. So like if you're not making

sales targets, you're making. So like car sales targets,

you're making sale targets by selling data.

So that's yeah. I have huge questions on the

genetic information thing. Like do you take the current

dealership and they swab the car and then they send it to like 23andMe? It sure as hell the car right

doing that Like that's messed up.

Totally, Yeah. No, no, that's when they give

you a cup of water. Yeah.

They come away, they take your cup away.

And yeah. Fingerprints your DNA, you know,

just. I want to come back to pick up

my car and they'll be like, do you know your one part Vietnamese? I'm like, well, like, where did

you get that from? You're about to pay, a sudden

tongue comes up with a needle and said.

Come back to pick up your car. The cops waiting, they're like,

we'd like to ask you a few questions about, you know, this, this is where you were several years ago with this one incident and you're like, what's going on?

Because that's what it is. It's not even like the cops will

bring a warrant and they will provide information based on a warrant. It's just an inquiry.

And it doesn't have to be the cops either.

There can be another company that just inquires about you and they're like, how much you paying?

You know, like you know, we'll sell you this guy's this solely basically, but. But you say that, but like the

catch is also too like it kind is where you are at all times, right? So if, for example, there is

like a like an armed robbery or a murder or, you know, God forbid anything else like that and someone says, oh, you know, it looked like a green Ford. OK.

And they're like, I've typed in green Fords that were in, you know, they'll speak to Ford Hacking sells data of all the green Fords that were in this area at this time of day.

Oh, ping me, Ming, this, this guy's car, you know, off you go and get taken away your handcuffs.

So, you know, that's, that's the other side of the, of the, of the coin as well. Like it could be used for

certain things like that. But then again, like, it's, it's

still kind of intruding on your, yeah, your personal life.

Like there's every chance that one of the people that ping on that green Ford thing maybe was there for, let's say, a political reason. And that was they're exposed

because they've now been, you know, questioned by the police.

The police know where they were there.

That information is no longer kind of secure.

And just on the base of the, the fact that the information gets collected and the information gets stored somewhere every second week, if not every week, you hear about some tech company or somebody having a leak and all sorts of data getting stolen. And some of this data ends up

being this kind of data that they collect about here, real sensitive stuff. And it's like, well, one, where

did you get, it's one thing for like a bank to have some of your information. The bank gets a leak.

That's, you know, fair enough. The bank should, you know, repay

you for whatever consequences you faced as a result, but you at least were engaging with the bank and the bank had your details, whereas this company, you had no idea they had your details. Next thing you know, they've,

they've caused or something in their system has caused a leak of some of your really, really personal, possibly intimate details. And you've got basically no

recourse on that because it's like, Oh well, you, you agreed when you bought the car or something.

And so sorry, now that you're, you know, personal shopping habits or, you know, health issues, like wherever you go to get your treatments done, that sort of thing, your mistress's address, that sort of stuff, It's all, you know, I.

Think we need to actually, yeah, there's a a business we can develop here is in hacking your car and deleting all this stuff out of it and deciding your own software to manage the car you want the way you want to manage it so it's actually offline I think it's a good. Good business, absolutely.

But but you say that, Rob, but also car companies be like, Oh, well, you take it at the modem that was your, your, your, your warranty. Warranty, yeah.

So so. So it's got to be like the new

generation of tuning cars. Instead of tuning like a

performance tune, you tune a privacy tune.

You know, that's it. We're doing privacy tunes.

I watched a documentary on it recently and.

That's fascinating. Yeah, it was, it was nuts

because like, you know, they they just released, you know, they released OK, but you've done it.

You're on this platform and they they had all these things about oh, we got the number one security.

They hadn't 0 security at all. So you're actually wondering how

much security these companies do have, you know, Ford and and all, you know, halt GM and and all these big money for Tesla, all these big manufacturers, I must say yeah.

You know, we, we, we, we, we've got good encryption, but can it you just don't know like, like for me that.

Only lasts Maddie until they move that data on.

At that point, it's the other company's encryption.

Who knows who the hell they are. And absolutely.

And then it's the CCPs that's got the data next.

And that's like, well, you know, I think we already lost there.

I don't know. Yeah, The encryption is like,

it's not a day old annual of security.

As soon as it gets sold off, it's it's in the hands of someone else. And they're not promising you

I did not go over there and do the flick and say she'll be right. I relied on him to do it and he

didn't do. It that was your downfall.

Yeah, there was a picture of like a load that's gone everywhere and police standing there and the caption just says, I swear, officer, I said, she'll be right.

know, magic and that's all they want.

They don't care that it's, it's cost like, you know, a couple of African children, their arms and legs mining the cobalt and then, you know, some other Chinese people in the machine factory, you know, and put Nets outside and make them not jump and that kind of stuff. They don't care about that.

That's like the car gets me there, you know, and I can play something on the the big screen. I can play some Tetris or

something. I'm saving.

I'm saving the environment. Yeah, anyway.

What is it? So 45% of golfers score under

100 on a regular basis. So if he's scoring over 100, I

mean, you're still pretty good. So just think about that.

It's only 45% score under 100 and only 26% score under 90.

And to make that further, only 2% under 80.

So if you're out there, you're hitting the ball and you're getting over 100, well, you know, you're just an average person. Yeah, like everyone else.

So don't stress. And up to 30% of statistics are

made up include the one I just said.

I actually had my nephew's car dropped off at me driveway and and I had to wait for the RACV for almost 2 hours.

So it was around about midnight when the car got dropped off.

He's run flat, went flat. That's a go figure.

Go figure. Did it do the job that it was

paid to do? No it didn't.

Couldn't drive it. It actually tore away from the

walls. Oh please.

If you read the fine print it said run flat.

They didn't say run well, you just run it when it's flat.

Well, it's flat, yeah. I'm just waiting for the council

to knock on my door anyway, yeah.
