At the beginning of every one of these podcasts, we ask if Cars Rule or Ruin Everything Around

It's a ruin.

Because I haven't bought anything.

On the weekend, that's what's ruined.

On the weekend, I decided, right, I want to get, I need to get going on some cars and

get some sold.

So I said, what I'm going to do, coming on my weekend here to the unit, I'm going to quickly

fix my driver's side window regulator on the E36, and then I'm going to get to work

on the EVO.

Two days of working on an E36, well, both E36 window regulators later, no progress

on the EVO other than bleeding the brakes, and I hate everything.

So I had to tape the window up because the previous owner had been in there.

I don't know.

Maybe just put like a blender in the window or something.

Just absolutely mashed it all up.

So I fought that for a few days, had to wait on parts.

So I drove the Mark 4 Golf that we bought at one point, and then I took the RS6 home, which

is, I've just, I'm on, I'm testing everything out.

On press cars.

I'm on press cars, which we might have some information on.

We may.

But yeah, so I've been annoyed by that, but the E36 is back now.

Kyle kind of came over today while I didn't have any time, get a look at it, got

it going through the runner.

I think that's it.

I can't think that there's anything else.

I came in on Sunday and I saw the E36 still here and I sort of went, oh, yeah.

And it wasn't great.

I actually had to, Will's raider was here on Saturday and said, can I, can I take

your range over home actually?

And then I realized the golf was drivable.

So it's a room for that.

Yeah, no news on the 550 yet.

Jeremy's playing hot and cold with me again.

I'm waiting on him.

I mean, when everyone finds out it's Jeremy Clarkson there, I'm going to be

stunned. Of course he would be, you know, why wouldn't he be secretive?

It's sort of what I imagine a fly would feel being inside a trombone.

We had, we had the Febby guys come over last Friday, Ben and Alex.

And they were like, yeah, do you guys want to go out in one of the cars?

And we were trying to explain to them how loud the Glado was.

And they were like, yeah, yeah, ha, ha.

And then we took them out.

And afterwards I said, was, did I explain it right?

They went, yeah, no, it was louder.

It's just, it's ridiculous.

It is officially loudest car I've ever experienced.

Ben, I'd like to describe it for the people not watching.

Jamiroquai jumper, a bit like his head of Logan.

So I think that the world balanced itself out in the end.

So I don't think it was going to happen, but worth a pump.

I was willing to sell a render of that, but very, very upset.

You can't have a glado and focus RS in one week.

I said to him, obviously not the ultimate green focus RS, a yellow Lamborghini

and then a red Cleo trophy.

You got the full traffic like I'm bringing the color to everyone would hate you.

Imagine your driveway.

Yeah, yeah, the least liked human just simply can't leave your house inconspicuously.

So we literally just unscrew that and plug that back in.

So that's back and now it needs alignment.

from a really reputable alignment shop, right?

I went down there just to get the toe in toe out sorted.

And actually it was a check to be fair.

It was to check whether it was how far out it was well.

And then you go to a specialist after that once you've got it.

I just wanted to quickly get it done

because I wanted to drive it because I was excited.

So because I drove it back on Friday night from the place

that had it would have it being fixed.

And I was I said, I'm going to sell it.

And I drove and I said, this thing's really good.

Anyway, I'm still going to sell it.

That's besides point went down to this unnamed place.

And is it like a crossroads?

Is it like emotionally or just a little bit?

Well, it became that way.

And it was just chaos.

There's cars pulling into other lanes and stuff.

What's going on?

Turns out I've been a big old crash.

OK, everyone was fine.

But there was two cars that were very clearly written off.

Two people there that were quite shaken up, quite upset.

I was like, this is crazy.

I'm just driving into this area, parked my car up at this place,

went in and the guy was like, mate, I can't do your alignment.

I was like, why is that?

I can't sort that out.

I was the crash.

Yeah, I'm an uncle insurance adjuster.

I don't know what they were going to do.

I don't know whether I don't know

whether they were they were helping the people.

Everyone looked fine, but I couldn't work out what he meant.

But for a minute, I just looked around.

I went, they look fine.

No, I wasn't.

I wasn't going to argue.

I was cool. I'll leave.

But I don't know if he was going to rebuild the car

in the middle of the road.

He walked over to a completely master.

I went, that's like two degrees of toe out, mate.

You don't want that.

We've checked it.

You know what did that?

Half a degree on the back spun out straight away.

I don't make a lot of it because it was obviously a crash.

But no one did though.

I don't know the details.

It looked like it looked like a somewhat, you know,

it's a right off.

Am I allowed to tell the fact that you told me on the phone?

You said the quite distraught young woman

that was crying about her car that was crashed

had sat in front of the door of the unnamed organization

and you had to step over her.

Well, it wasn't, she wasn't in front of the door

like where I had to step over her,

but it was the point where I sort of had to,

I pulled up on my Clio, which isn't that loud,

but you know, in that situation, you're going to look at it.

Did you get a bang down the shift?

Healing toe passed the crash.

I pulled up kind of somewhat looking like a bit of a knob

and I was like, and I got out of the car kind of confused.

And then yeah, they were like, oh, by the door.

So I had to sort of like squeeze past them

and just scoot shot in to get my alignment done.

And then I had to scoot back out and leave.

But yeah, so they did get done.

But apart from that, I just drove anyway.

So this week, I just didn't do it.

I just refused.

No, he said it would be like an hour or two

before we could do it.

And I was like, oh, time is mad.

So next week, the Clio is back.

We're driving it.

It's going to be good.

I've already driven it.

But as in what, once it's aligned,

you're going to, you're going to report back.

Oh, it should be like, it should be back

to how it was before the track day in June.

Okay.

So wait, it only took three months but we're back.

I should read better because it's had the engine sort of now.

So then it's for sale.

And then that's, yeah, that's my rule.

To celebrate, we've got Forza Horizon 1 on the screen,

which I feel like we may have already had gameplay off.

But yes, we have got, there is a teaser of Forza Horizon 6,

quite cool.

If you, if you aren't aware, if you're under a rock,

or you're just not allowed into gaming,

Horizon is a Forza franchise, a gaming franchise

where you get put out into the open world.

You can go do what you want.

You street race, you race on like mini tracks type things.

And there's a good car list usually.

And everyone has always been asking,

when's, when's Japan coming?

And they go, it's soon.

And then they go, we're in Qatar.

And they just pull up with the most random, like Mexico.

I was never expecting Mexico.

I wasn't expecting England.

I'm watching the trade of England, they're going,

What? Why is it England?

But alas, we're finally in Japan.

So is it next year?

It's 26 years?

Well, they said early next year,

they're going to give like, I guess, gameplay.

Because it wasn't a trailer.

It was basically the announcement of where it is.

But because basically it got leaked,

it got leaked that it was going to be in Japan.

So I think they kind of scrambled something together.

But they have said that,

oh no, I haven't forgotten what I'm going to say.

Sorry, they've, one of the people high up has said

that they obviously can't give details,

but it is the biggest map yet.

And the city, I assume Tokyo will be very big.

So I do think the one thing that Forze is missing

is the map is kind of average.

It's an evolution of the same map each time.

Yeah, that's the big difference.

I think from like one and two,

one and two were very different.

And then three was different,

but three, four and five are all versions of the same map.

You see, that's all, I've only played three, four and five.

So to me, it's like, they're very, very similar.

Yeah.

But the maps aren't very big either.

Sorry, the cities aren't.

They've never traditionally been that big.

You can fly through the city in 15 seconds.

So it'd be cool if there is a bigger city.

Am I correct in saying that's Mount Fuji?

In the, what's called, the teaser of it,

yeah, it would be if it is akin to Mount Fuji.

If they're going to include a racetrack.

I've always thought that would be a little bit like,

I still think the crew as a concept for a racing game is sick.

It just, I still believe it was never executed well enough.

You need to at least have the handling of Forza.

need for speed mods for your car, Forza physics and driving

and that sort of thing.

And then the crew map.

I'm there.

Forza is not great.

The handling is not great.

It's not simulation.

But it's better than fun.

It's not break to drift.

Yeah, exactly.

There's a lot of games like this are normally Arcadia's as hell.

To be fair, the mods are not bad on Forza.

They're not on some cars.

Yeah, but they just, it needs more creativity.

I still stand by the crew in Europe would be great.

Because it's a similar size area and you could have,

you could have, you know, you could have the Stelvio Pass,

you could have a mountainous,

you could have your friends.

It's a lot of Monaco.

I don't really know what I even want from Forza 6 in terms of,

every now and then pull up Forza Horizon 5.

But I have, everything was given to me in that game.

So I am nowhere in terms of like the story, I guess,

like the actual leveling up.

I didn't need to because I have millions and I have every car.

The only thing I do now see,

there's lots of cars I really want.

But you have to do all the special stuff.

There's too much to do to get that car.

I recently bought Horizon,

and don't worry, this whole podcast won't be about gaming.

I know a lot of you don't like gaming stuff.

But I bought the new Horizon and I was playing it and I was overwhelmed.

I know I'm getting old, but I still play enough games regularly

to be pretty on it with stuff.

And I was, I was like, I've got no clue what's going on.

What are these cards doing?

And it's also because I skip through everything,

everything that tries to teach me something.

But there's a card, I have to flip a card, then I get a card,

then I can go to a place and I can only go within that place.

Then I can do a race and that race will give me a card

that gives me a spin of a wheel that lets me, what are we doing?

It's explaining a bullshit card game.

Right, we're going to play a Horizon, the card game.

I'm going to give you five cards and use one of those cards.

One of them's a joker.

If you get a joker, you have to run around.

If you joker, you quit the game.

This is relevant to the listeners because Edwin

has famously to us of a camera set many times

that the one thing that makes some angriest in the world

is having a card game explained to him.

okay, it still looks okay, but I'm not sure I could play it for that long.

I loaded up forza 4.

I think that is peak car game.

It holds up.

It always holds up.

Graphics are still good.

All the sounds are really good.

The physics are really good.

Hi, this is something controversial about Forza.

Here we go.

I actually, I prefer to not have seasons.

I prefer to have areas of the map that are like that.

So for example, Japan.

Now I don't know much about Japan,

but as far as I'm aware,

the very north of Japan is actually very cold all the time.

Then you're at Tokyo in the middle.

And then the south is very beachy.

There's islands and stuff.

But if you had that as a map on Forza, that'd be great.

If you actually drive up into the snowy area

and then come down to city and then go to the hot area.

It made sense for England, like perfectly,

because we have very four, very four,

we have four very distinct seasons.

So you can play into it.

You can have snow in the winter, that sort of stuff.

Again, it gets long after a while.

They're like the Mexico thing.

That's why I liked it.

When I loaded up TDU and it just has a vibe.

Yeah, the vibe never changes.

Even this, this is Colorado in Horizon 1

and it has this sun-soaked, desert-y feeling orange backing

that's just perfect.

It always feels good.

Or let me choose season, because I want autumn.

If I choose winter and I'm in the snow,

is a massive shift.

these are the cars that I really want that are somewhat

sustainable.

I want a Cayman S, which is a 3.4,

but they're also a bit blowy up.

The maintenance, you're still buying Porsche parts,

no matter how cheap the car is.

S2000 is the one that I think I probably could get

at the minute, like as an next car.

But you want a very specific spec.

I want a specific spec.

For it to be perfect.

And also, I want a nice one.

As what I've said many times,

I don't want to deal with lots of issues.

I don't mind a few small bits,

but when it breaks, it annoys me.

So to get into an S2000, I could probably do.

To get into a nice S2000, I can't currently do.

So for me, I was looking at Z4s,

because I was, what was Z4?

It tickles your pickle.

But for the price of a ropey S2000,

I could get a pretty nice Z4.

So I'm thinking passably, passably.

I was looking at, I was looking at a Z4

as the next stepping stone.

And then maybe we'll get a 2000 after that.

After I've enjoyed the Z4 for a bit.

Because your go is too similar.

It's the equivalent to right now,

swapping the Clio for a 206, a GTI.

they're on a similar playing field-ish.

Because the way I see it, I could buy a Z4.

What's Z4?

But I can get a decent Z4

with some nice mods all in.

And I'll have a nice working happy car.

Whereas for an S2000, I'd have to be in

sort of, you know, somewhat sad town for a while.

To make, you know, there'll be rust.

There will be definitely rust.

Now, that is not necessarily true.

Because that is where you're looking at

the market right now.

The beauty of cars is that every day,

another person gets fed up with their car

and puts up sale.

So right now, the other thing is that

most of the S2000s that are listed right now

aren't moving.

They're not selling.

Because they're not actually worth.

People are putting them up for more than they're worth.

So you may find, just like the Gallardo

that Will found, a car, like realistically,

if I had asked you before that Gallardo came up,

I gave you the specs of your Gallardo.

And I said, how much is it worth?

You've probably overestimated what you paid by 20 or 30 percent.

You're never going to find that.

Whereas tomorrow, you might wake up

and your perfect blue on blue on blue S2000

comes up for seven grand.

I just don't think it will.

But it will.

That's my point.

That's the thing with cars.

But if that does happen, it'll have an issue.

Because it's that same person.

Sure. Why would they not go online

and see all the 15 grand and go?

Because they don't sell at 15 grand.

Because a smart person who actually wants to sell their car

goes on and looks and sees,

that car has been for sale for two months at 15 grand.

Clearly, it's not worth it.

Realistically, I think in S2000 right now,

an average OK one is going to be 10 to 12 grand.

Not true.

It's not because I've been watching them.

Because I actually do.

I like S2000.

And a good working car that needs no rust work

you can find for seven and a half to eight grand.

Well then, why have I not got one on my driveway?

for like aftermarket discs that don't cost too much.

Perhaps there are some listeners out there

who've been in a similar situation,

because they are.

That is a perfectly normal question that someone might have.

They're looking for a two-seater sports car or similar.

They're looking at S2000 Cayman Z4,

MX-5.

No, they shouldn't be here.

But I think if the Cayman is the one you want,

I know it's probably more expensive though, right?

Than an S2K or a Z4.

3.4 would be, yeah.

Less would be.

I think your path should be this.

Z4 right now, maybe.

It's a little Z4.

To get you in the six-seller of two-seater.

And you want a Coupe or not?

I want a Coupe.

Then you get into the thing of it not really being,

my logic of it being a nice one for the price of a bad S2000

doesn't make sense because the Coupe is more expensive.

So it'd be a convertible in this situation.

And then make your way to the Cayman afterwards.

Because the Cayman, I think going from Z4 to the Cayman

should feel different because it's mid-engine and it's Porsche.

And it will drive a little bit more,

a little bit different compared to an S2K and a Z4.

That's a fair point.

But also, such is life.

That's what is variety.

It is the spice.

Now, you could always try them all.

But the thing is, then Z4, the pre-faceted one has a less good engine.

They're the same, they're both three liters,

it has less good engine, but it has less issues.

What costs worry you?

You're going to spend that just as much.

It's going to be like, no, no, but I'm saying like, it's the same as a Z4.

What costs worry you on a Cayman?

Is it the engine?

Well, there's two things.

The first thing is that anywhere you go, they go Porsche.

You know, I'll fix the Porsche.

You know, it's a Porsche, which makes it more expensive.

The labor rate, I think will be more.

Also, the location of and the layout of the engine makes it, I think,

so doing stuff is harder.

They're more expensive.

They are harder.

Yeah.

And then the second point is that, for me, I can't do anything to a Cayman,

realistically.

Of course you can.

And if I can, though, I'm not going to enjoy doing it because of where the engine is.

Where you want to do it.

But why do you want to do engine stuff?

Well, if I had a Z4 that was more of a project,

no, I'm not saying bad, but if it was, you know, a car that I could service,

I could do an intake to that, the stuff like that.

Whereas on a Cayman, that all feels even like doing spark plugs,

feels more daunting to me.

No, they are.

They are designed to still be.

It's bigger engine work that is, you know, difficult,

but that's the stuff that you don't really want to do anyway.

You don't want to do that on a Z4.

But to me, I can't.

It feels the layout of it feels to me like I feel it feels daunting to me to do.

What does the ideal Cayman look like to you?

Like in terms of like, this is the car I've bought and this is what I want to do to it.

It would be, do you know what I want?

A Cayman, a 987 Cayman, which is that generation,

correct?

What are the wheels, Edwin?

Go to your happy place.

Peter from America, his E68, those, that style, those sort of big spoke boys,

multi-piece guys on a Cayman look great.

That will be some low spaces and then some exhaust and some induction noise.

Now these mods don't sound terrible.

No, I think they'd be that you'd have the same,

maybe some things, maybe like the exhaust and stuff might be more expensive

because it's Porsche, but I don't know.

There might be cheap options out there.

Well, I feel like you might be able to gundamod them,

which is a like a bypass pipe that you can put in that makes them sound.

So here are some options for you to have a great ease to be fair.

There you go, Ben.

There is a, there is a, that is so good.

Yeah, so those are LMs.

Those are, that's a similar sort of style.

That is so good.

But we found you, we spec'd out your perfect S2000 the other day,

Enki RPF ones and is the, the basic white girl of, you know,

the Ugg boots and Starbucks.

But was it impressive though?

I don't know wheels at all.

And I said to you, I said to you, I didn't say Enki RPF one that I said,

those wheels from, and I described exactly because, because they're,

they're universally good.

If you hate on RPF ones, it's, it's cause you're,

you're a hype beast who's like, no, it's cause it's too trendy.

Too many people have them.

They're good wheels.

But looking at that Cayman and that S2000 in your head,

what does more for you?

Other Cayman stuff.

Which one are you looking back at?

Both.

But the Cayman, Cayman for longer.

I always want a Cayman.

In that case, keep saving for the Cayman.

That's the choice.

That's a 2.7 to which are the non S ones.

Let's not do that.

Yeah.

But is that not a good stepping stone?

Now I know there are, there will be people in the comments,

people on the internet going, well, the 2.7 is the thinking man's Cayman

because it is more reliable.

And actually the engine is more Revi and more eager to rev out to the red line.

But what they really want is a 3.4.

If you give them a choice in a vacuum, they will choose the 3.4.

But will I be able to, because I'm not a driver.

Oh, you are.

But it's very different.

They are far more talky, like just day to day driving around.

You'll get far more enjoyment from like little blasts from a 3.4

than you will revving the tips out of the 2.7.

I would prefer it.

It's just, it's just, if it was a case for me, this is so,

this is so, no one will agree because this is so boring.

But if it's a case of, you know, there's 10% more fun from that one,

but then obviously you have to deal with all the other issues with them,

then for me, I'm like, that's not worth it.

I think the majority of people would agree with you.

We are willing, I have the outliers,

most people are not willing to potentially bankrupt themselves for,

you know, the sort of thing that we're looking at.

Plus, I mean, if it's, if the whole car is just universally insanely better,

then obviously worth it.

My vote is Z4 first for time being,

because I don't think that you will lose a,

because you could own it for six months for a year.

However long you like, use that.

And then when the time is right, when the bread is up,

when the peas are full,

when they move onto the Cayman.

Now here's what I'd say first as well.

Driver 2.7, driver 3.4.

See how you like him.

I have a man who offered a Cayman to you,

and you said no.

This is a strict MOT tester.

Sounds like work to do on the, on the, on the channel.

The coilovers and wheels.

And wheels that aren't black.

So yeah, for those, yeah, we didn't really explain it fully,

but it is KMS, it facelift KMS, which is very nice.

83,000 miles, which means it crashed just

a thousand miles after its last MOT.

Does it tell you about, let's say, history of it?

No, they have anything with it.

So, co-part, you are more often than not, you will get nothing with it.

But that is why the price will tend to stay low on it.

Because even when they come to sell it,

even when they've bought it and they've done it up,

it won't have history.

But a lot of higher-end manufacturers, you can go to Porsche.

If it's been serviced with Porsche and say,

can I please have all my service history if the car was serviced with it?

If it was for sale for 20 grand, it's got half service history.

That's logic, right?

No, but it doesn't come with the car.

But I'm saying that it has to have service.

in which case you can't necessarily find that.
