Car Connectivity and Matty's new toy

After hours. Thank you guys are doing really

well, which I want to talk about because obviously that's one of the big things that that's happening with the, with the car space, at the moment where everyone is trying to connect their there. Essentially their life, which is

the phone with with their cars but more importantly we want with a few things to talk about like our updates will get us some card data. First and foremost, really Ross

man updates with you what's happening on your world?

My friend not much on the car updates financially, I took my test line for a small warranty repair and I have to say, I don't know what the rest of the Auto industry is going to do what the dealerships are going to do.

This is been online. Like any service experience I've

ever had what happened? Everything's up front,

everything's transparent all through the app, I literally woke up. I don't have to give them a

name. I don't have to give them

anything, they know exactly who you are.

They know what car you've got. And they literally just know

everything about it. They like this the brown guy

must have stolen you might as well service is kind of.

So you know I'm saying. So they but yeah it was really

really good really seamless. As soon as I drop the car, they

sent me this. I don't know what the premium

Uber is, but they send me those vouchers straight to my Tesla account. Well, my app and they're like

you can use them anytime. So I just literally I think you

get like, twenty dollars of credit at the, a It's pretty much as long as they have the car either that or they'll give you a car if you want a car. And yes, just so seamless and as

soon as it was, when the car is there, your app wherever you are? You app says, it's in service.

Well and they every time they do something, you can see an update. The really slow.

So like do they like say okay, we've taken the control arm off.

This is what we've done so far. Yeah.

Like you can see the progress of what's going on.

And then at the end, everything is in a PDF, all attached to your thing. You rock up Up.

So they send me a notification, your cars, ready, right?

I booked an Uber. I'm there.

As soon as a rock up, it's already parked outside.

And they're like, oh yeah, that's your, that's your Castle obviously. They can see what the app where

I am as well. And then I just hear picked it

up unlocked. It paying is easy in the app,

you just pissed paid. I've already got your bank card

or payment. The guy straight away and

invoice as well as your everything that they've done fully itemized down to each individual part them inspected.

Everything is out of my eyes and it's all there in a PDF for you within the app and it's always stored in your account.

And yeah, just pick the car up and go and no, no issues at all.

Just extremely seamless. I just don't see any other brand

being able to do that because of how much they already know about me. So resistant to curiosity, what

happens in a Tesla Service, obviously there's no oil change to be changed. I know you were getting a

warranty claim done which is not which you're not charged for, but what do they do to just a general?

Check over of the car. So I had my tires rotated.

I had my tires rotated, I had them to do de, do do what's known as a to yearly inspection. You can book that in because the

car was already going I was like you know for 180 or 200 bucks or whatever it is they can inspect the whole car, the battery pack, all the The performance, they'll review all the data from the car and tell you, if anything needs to be done from a preventative, there's no maintenance but it's all real like, you know, consumable stuff. So they replace the wiper

blades. They were they replaced the HEPA

filter inside. The car did the inspection on

the battery pack, the high voltage system, the motors, the suspension, all of that is fully itemized and all the things they've tested including all the metrics from their diagnostic equipment. And then any recommendation, the

only recommendation they had was I think it's a 10,000 km change, replace your tires but apart from that that's all I need to do. And I've never had to do

anything else in my 42,000 case so far.

And I won't have to do anything unless it's a warranty or some other issue. But for another two years.

So that will be another two yearly inspection.

Doing the same thing, replacing it like the cabin filter and your wiper blades. And the rest.

But yeah, it's breaks. They don't have to do any are

they? They do check your brake

pressures and all of that as well, even though you don't generally use them. So, they've got that in the

inspection as well as part of the two yearly inspection.

So I hear it very hard on myself on a suspension.

So the suspension ball joints and things like that, they check all that. Yeah, so my the they did the

full suspension review as well and whatever diagnostic.

And visual or actual diagnostic equipment.

They use, they've all itemized that in the in their inspection sheet as well and that's all in your invoice or receipt that you get at the end, all itemized and exactly how much labor they spent versus parts or broken down.

I mean it's a little bit different to mr.

David princes, Volkswagen inspection recently where there was a twenty six hundred dollars off.

Potential repair bill on the brakes.

So the none of that is like that not nothing was a surprise but yeah, they did all the reviews of that and I think the suspension itself, if I didn't have this warranty control arm issue, there's nothing else wrong with the car.

And I know other guys that I've done over 140, 150 thousand in the cars and they've just had a true yearly inspection and never had anything go wrong with them. It's pretty good.

There's actually very good in terms of like reliability and stuff. That showing that they're

actually really holding up quite well.

I mean, mechanically besides suspension things is not really much to go wrong, is there like that's virtually it.

Well there's this previously always sort of noted that the motors are rated at a million miles so not much can go wrong with then the battery packs up. Just nothing really goes wrong

with them because the battery management system is pretty good old Computer controlled. But yeah, just consumables,

sometimes anything. That's sort of mechanical if

there is an issue but depends on how you drive it.

But yeah, no, I don't think there is much else and that's the worrying part for a lot of the dealers as well, because there's nothing to do. So, high-end eyes and the rest,

they still have any early service.

I don't really know what they do with it, but it's capped as well. So yeah, it's a little bit

interesting to see. How that works into the future?

Because dealerships are not entirely happy because they won't get any servicing. Money of servicing people's cars

have to be kept dry because like what are they going to do?

I was just going to say that there's a call it that needs to be changed for the battery to condition to battery that I did at every two years or is that on the rich bit.

So, Rob for Becky Lynch because I use a call to actually call the batteries or heat or condition the battery to assume it's sealed for the life of the party.

Is it? Yeah.

Okay, so these days. They're the thermal management

is all, it's all liquid cooled, and it's nothing really needs to be swapped out. It's sealed for the real

duration of the pack, which they, you know, the scientists that have tests done tests on the batteries there, I can easily 15 or the years before, anything needs to be done to the packs. It's awesome.

So so basically got a back, any bites on the salad at the moment or not. Yet though.

I might have to pause that. That it was heartbreaking.

And as soon as I got, got it back and it was all fine.

I just said, if I lose a little bit of money on it between now and when the upgrade or the update is available, then it's fine. I just don't know what else I'm

going to get. Like, I had a plan to get a

dolphin, but it's hard to know when that's going to come out and then I'll have to sell it by something.

And who knows by quarter three quarter for I might have a faster performance. Mmm.

So if that happens then you know that but it's all a bit up in the air at the moment. Yeah, well, it's exciting times,

man. I'm actually kinda going for

going that for another drive because I actually really enjoyed everything. Try to make it happen.

We'll go to Rob update with you. My friend what's happening in

your car, World purchased my new set of wheels, which is a track mountain bike went for a pushy ride this morning.

Earning trying to keep get fit. Yeah, I tell you what it's

harder to bleed, brakes on a mountain bike than it is in the car, that's for sure. So you need a special brake

bleeding kit and you need syringes and all sorts of things laid out the Hydraulics out of the brake lines.

So is that what Holly's been doing?

What we've been having this podcast is breaking the law.

Yeah, that's right. It'll take probably a couple of

weeks to do that too. Haha.

Yeah. So apart from that, I actually

drove me Dad's Mercedes for the you know for the first time in a long time which will saying was, Shane, warne's, ex-wife's car bought bought and driven in Brighton.

But the team for a 23 year old 24 year old car.

It drives really well. I'm amazed how well it drives

but like I said, everything is falling apart around it.

So I gave it a bit of a detail, bit of a wash And whatnot but the headlights will need to get published and a pillar trim needs to be reglued and stuff like that.

So I'll I'll clean it up for him and he's Central locking is playing up. So just tinkering with that.

Applies to Headlights on his little Toyota Echo.

Gees a lot Plastics doesn't hold up to the sunlight to all these days, is it? No not at all.

Yeah. So had to polish up the

headlights on that one as well but yeah, nothing much in a car front. Just waiting for my car still be

delivered and that's probably around March.

Yeah, and June 4. And so when the holding my

breath, I'll just when it comes to be a good surprise.

Be like, you can't see. I'll be like, well, how do you

ask for a VIN number for both of them?

Like it's fantastic in tracking your numbers and everything else and the transit was pretty good. Actually, I rang up Ford and

Ford said, yeah, it's been earmarked for production and whatnot and and it's going into that production process.

But it hasn't been hasn't been started yet.

So you're like little bro, with do agree with me, you know, they gave me a VIN, so just keep an eye out.

Then I got a message when it was built and I got a message when I was at the Port. Then I got a message when it was

on the ship, then I got a message and then like to see here's the ship details. You can track the ship and

attract the ship and it got be got pretty exciting towards you towards the arriving to Australia and when it arrived to Australia was like the longest two weeks of my life.

But It was good, it was good but it's good.

That Ford actually actually do that.

If the problem is that that's probably one good thing about and compared to maybe some of the other deals.

I think Mercedes like that too. I'm sure that they give you a

bit of a sort of an update when it when the cars are being shipped and whatnot. But yeah, for two pretty good at

it. So yeah, they're not bad.

So that's your updates. So how do you do?

All right, me I actually got something for once.

Oh, I finally got the correct assembly bolts to fix the rim to put that back together again. So I did all that and tight

little properly, triple-checked it to make sure it's all it. 19

foot pounds and hopefully in a couple days or something I will check it see if it fills with air and see if it holds awesome should be all good and then get down on and then booked in to get some suspension parts fitted which I was saying about how needs have grease put into it. I don't have a grease gun or

anything. I'm not going to go out and buy

a grease gun and use it once and then it sits around forever.

So get someone just to check those in for me and then it should be ready. Oh, I just need order.

Electrician to come out and just check the headlight and that's it, right? You're very close.

Got it. You're very Getting their bit of

a update from I guess I've mentioned it ages ago.

Think dad's got a Holden Colorado that had plenty of diff problems that was all done. And that like no issues with

with Holden the dealership they been doing really really well but probably just a bad. Look at Colorado's themselves

coming back from sale and he lost Lost power steering and everything. Well, well, so I had to drive

all the way back, another couple hours home with no power steering and that took it in turns out that have to replace the whole power steering rack. Is it everywhere?

How many cases do you reckon this cars bump for power steering rack to fail? I mean, they shouldn't.

It's a thing, is it is it electric power steering on that or is it a hydraulic? Anaheim censure might be

electric out of line. I think he's is 2018, 2019

Colorado. I think it's got 100,000 case on

it is all it's out of warranty and everything but it's been serviced with them the whole time and they know the whole history of the car holding said that they'll do it.

That's gonna cost. So yeah, he's my Holden.

Mm. Well, 400 hundred thousand case.

I mean, it's not a lot but at least they've at least they're back in their product and replace.

Yeah. So that's some good news out of

something that's that's bad that they're still there for, for the customers, I guess. Yeah, it's good.

So, it's because I saw one of the old Holden.

Dealerships is now like a forgot what it's called, but they had a certified holding. Like, the only had one little

sign, but the rest of them, they'll doing all sorts of cars.

Was A Holdings getting serviced those Pew Commodores there and some Colorado's, and even a crap table over there.

I sort of lost but yeah, it's interesting again, it is still sad that there are cars coming on here anymore, but at least they, I'll give him credit though, they've backed their product, which is good. Yeah, yeah.

So let's doing great for the customers, which is, which is good to hear. Just the right note, is this

still? Is there a General Motors

dealership or there isn't any dealers, other than Holden?

So there's no real General Motors products anymore out there is there. It's a great question.

I mean, they still selling I'm pretty sure this is the Chevy Chevy trucks now and the Chevy water.

There were selling that the Camaro one point was GM specialty because I think it was called and the Corvette.

I think they're still down the Corvette but I don't think there's any real General Motors stuff in Australia anymore.

Besides they looking at bringing the Silverado at some point.

Well, that's what I thought that those they started bringing over Yeah, I sure haven't seen any. I'm going to be silly for them.

Not to when wouldn't Rams. Surprisingly doing quite well in

the cell. I think boats.

No, okay, so I don't really know what they sort of sell at the moment just on the ram. 6100 49. Were sold in 2022.

It's a lot of cause I guess that's like just a smooth, a small Niche car its heat. So it's I was watching got from

this these come on the show at a Morris from RE driven.

He's he did one on his show and he's like, I'm expecting to hate this, is going to be terrible and he just fell in love with it. He's like, he's like, yeah, the

quality is not great, but, you know, Jesus strong and mechanically sorted in and just just brilliant to drive and can tell anything you don't feel it. It and he's like, I totally get

it now. He's always like they probably

not suited to our small roads here but he's like, I get it and I get why people buy him. I guess that's why.

For the beginning, the F-150 and if GM was was was here, was legit about staying in this country.

I think they should bring bring it in Silverados and Tahoe is because that's, that would be things that I'm assuming would sell quite well. I mean, Rob, you've drowned, you

in stupid German, those you doing at our home and everything. And yeah, I'm really quite big.

But I reckon, it's all right here, because we're obsessed with its TVs. It looks like they do

everything. Okay, they're probably know more

of the, you know, pick to drive and I think, you know, on a highway to nowhere and then a big Land Cruiser or anything like that. To tell you the truth, the

probably a bit harsher on a tray.

If you haven't got a load in them, but when you start looking at the Tahoe is you know, where you've got a proper wagon type scenario that they ride real well.

And the space Adams, fantastic. Like you got three rows of seats

and install got storage space in them.

So So they're very good. So yeah, I think they might be

because there's a general medicine, we have anything else here to sell, so be cool to see if they think bring those interesting times ahead with that.

If you need a car, they can lend you a car because my mom works, not that far from, from where she takes it to get service, you drops it off there and actually drive it to work and drop her off at work, and then come and pick her up when she's done and take her to the car. So they've been fantastic.

So the chance came through the Honda Club to get a Honda Scamp at a really, really reasonable price considering what they're going for online and I went and looked at it and drove it and fell in love with it. And I'm like, damn why did I

come and look at this car. But I think Rosie Ross needs to

Lisa Lisa, take this thing for a dry because that to be honest at the moment, people are like risen needs his car.

So if I tried to leave it on it, you're getting it R is, I'm sorry, that's bad for what it is.

It's so so it came out for, as I said, for a really good price are considering some ones that aren't running and a full of Just more expensive than the ones than what?

I paid for a really good running and driving one that stays a little bit of work already spoken to Rob about it, he really knows. I'm pretty excited.

It's got its got a fully rebuilt carb foot, the whole fuel system has been done, including the fuel tank, all new brake lines, and bright, and shoes, and the in there because it's good.

They got Drums all around drives really well because I went and drove David's one properly and was like, this actually drives me. It's actually super fun to

drive. Like they're not fast.

They really got. Like no means the amount of of

Kilowatts but that's not the point of a keg are when they're so light. You can just put it around the

town and it'll be before. It's Rich, it's really fun to

drive. And so, yeah, I'm excited to go.

Pick it up on Sunday and just, I'm going to chip away at it, and enjoy it. So, yeah, it's a 1970 and 360

It's just it's the new Norm so expect to see a lot more on the road. But expect to see a shake-up of

other car brands because like I was going over Ford Sales, they sold like so just over 60 68 thousand cars or something and then 58 of those were range of interests.

So not really a good look for a car company.

So like you won't see that the all these car companies are there's going to be a big shift, especially with them with byd coming in very very soon. Moving on to tonight's topic

connectivity and cars. Now I wanted to bring this topic

up to you guys because obviously our phones are kind of What people deem as our kind of a large?

Now most people only hoods are on their phones you know the whole hello to those Instagram models that get famous for just pictures. Yeah that's me.

Yeah that's got you know I'm sitting with this I've seen him with his shirt lifted up you know it's an Ode to the gods of ancient Amazing Grace. So you knows is he was.

He was based off your your exploits mr.

Mr. Scotty do pretty much whatever.

Myron rest in peace, he He talked about connectivity is such an important part of cars. They are on my Forester, a few

years ago, my brother installed a Viper system, right?

And it had, you know, remote start, you know, tracking and everything, which was pretty cool.

It also put in a head unit which had Apple carplay and Android auto which completely changed completely changed.

Everything. Now that most modern cars come

with that standard, it makes driving like it makes like having a Phone on you the whole time like that, even though, even when you're driving, you don't even realize you're having it cars like Tesla and stuff. Have they run their own system?

But run flawlessly. Do you think that connectivity

can get any like, especially with how quickly and I reckon in the last 10 years. If you look at a car from excuse

me, 2012, there's been new to 2023.

The difference in Tech just for between 10 years, is nuts.

Have you seen a bigger jumping Tech that quickly ever?

Because, like, I look back from like the early nineties to like, even the late 2000s, it was all kind of similar Tech.

He said they just had a Bluetooth, you know, or a CD player. Wow.

But now, like, the last thing is texture is going nuts.

Do you think what my my first question is to you guys.

Do you think Tech, is, is going to grow?

And what do you think could happen next?

Like, what out, what are the tech you think's coming or to do you think that they're having to adapt because they're trying to make make it look good for? Electric cars are about to

about, to hit the market, real hard.

What is your opinion on engines? I think it comes down to the

generation. Now, when you look at the cars,

there's the younger kids that are still in primary school in that, their dream cars is to own a Tesla.

They want all that electronic things and bits and pieces, and it's what they enjoy, you know, with gaming.

And they know so much about technology.

You know, they can use it at such a young age.

I was saying not that long ago, I've got a laptop and my niece and nephew, just wanted to watch just something on YouTube and they're pressing the screen touching it and trying to make it big. I do not touch screen or

anything to see all keyboard and everything like that.

So it just seeing the differences between the way we use technology, and what technology that we use.

Because when I was at super cheap and things like that selling, he owes the main thing people wanted is to be able to listen, to their music. That was it.

There was no difference in that, you know, there was a whole fad where you can watch DVDs and things like that, but he's out pretty quick. No one was interested in that

they just wanted to connect the phone and play their own music or play through this Spotify or apple music or whatever it might have been and that was it you know double Dean's weren't that popular. They were just going single bins

because they just wanted that basic Bluetooth just to connect their phone. That's it whether to do.

Hands-free calling which you can do with single DIN.

And that's it, that's what everyone came in to get their cheap. You know, you're my five hundred

bucks and it's Bluetooth and everything.

Chuck it in Easy connections, they made things so much simpler. And now I think we're going to

larger control units in your card that you can't really pull out and replace, you know, similar to the way like the I guess the Ford BFFs and stuff they had their Some in the middle, that's not something you could just pull out and trucking, something else as simple as a single DIN or doubled in. So, I think it's, it's a

company's car. Companies are realizing this to

actually put money into that technology because it's what this generation wants us coming through.

So then they go out and buy aftermarket things to put in their car because it's already got it on, you can see it with stereos and things, even the new, the new Corvette that's got a huge bow system, which Which I was watching a video that it's one of the most powerful sound systems I've ever put into a car and that's coming from a Corvette that's mid-engine now and sounds like a Ferrari and they're still building and adding that kind of technology and not just on your music side

of things. But the cluster as well.

You're getting so much more information shown to you about your car compared to what you used to get, sing on your cluster up there. It's All Digital now with heaps,

more information and displays, and its really interesting.

Uh, you know, I love seeing all that kind of side of things too, like, I completely agree with you completely, go with you on a few of those points, dirt, definitely, especially the last point about the digital cluster, like my fiestas, got a digital cluster and it tells you boost pressure oil, temperature, water temperature, you know, All like, all the little things you can cycle through and you can change things and you can swipe things and you can do it. You can get rid of things and

it's unbelievable. Like and getting back to your

other point about like technology, like kids are coming out these days later coming out of the womb able to use YouTube and stuff like that. Then they are really.

Yeah, I think that YouTube premium offered in there.

Yeah, there is yep, definitely see the bone.

It's they got an account straight away.

But like when I get people coming to super cheap, right?

And they like Master stereo. I'm like, I'm like, okay I asked

her. I said, I some simple question,

every single time I like, do you want something that's going to last you a long time or you want something that's just going to work for now? And most of the time they can be

like well I worked. It's you know, it's a hundred

bucks to taller people's a lot of money.

And I always say, well, if you're planning on keeping the car and using it for a bit longer and you got the space for a double DIN, get a Apple carplay or Android auto unit because it connects straight to your phone and you're sorted.

You got no, you got no issues if you because I might otherwise you'd be back. You'll be back here in like a

year. Roll a year and a half or two

years and be like, yeah, I should go to the other unit and You by the other unit and to waste our money.

So many laptops and stuff like whenever I used to buy up the ice to try by the best one I could because as soon as it was paid for it's out of date anyway but by new laptop.

So I do agree with those Punk's or a lot of the for example a lot of the students are like like to me all they want to be YouTube stars or Tick-Tock Styles or you know this that the other and that's all related to the connectivity with their with their phones. I do is going to going to come

in here with a point about Tesla with the are the updater over the over the over the air automatically.

A little cause of doing that now but I reckon Tess has really pioneered that. That way you can always stay

ahead of the game in terms of in terms of just that that up-to-date technology. Yeah, I think the Scotty you

ride like there's a lot of things now that people its consumer Behavior, right? Like we expect a certain level

of interaction with our devices. As Mary said, there are phones

and people want the same experience because of because phones are basically technology products they either run.

Eating an apple Os or they're running a android-based operating system. It's all to do with user

experience. How many tabs to get to a

certain end goal? That is to open an app, take a

photo whatever, that's what's expected and big companies.

Actor, I've already kicked and screamed for many years before finally, introducing Apple carplay and Android auto in some of the newer cars and even then it's been a compliance thing because I wanted so badly. They're happy to switch to a

brand that offers it like he our high-end I if Tara doesn't offer it. So they've had to do it and

they've done a okay job, but it seems like a bit of a half-assed job to try and just to please a customer where I think things are going to go. So this is just non Tesla

related where I think things are going to go, is Apple and Google are pushing very hard to have native inbuilt systems so you buy a car, so Paul. All-Star wall was a good

example, you buy their car, the whole infotainment system seems like an Android phone because everything, it's got the skin for Volvo or pasta, but it's all inbuilt, it's all connected.

When you search for something on maps, it's Google Maps.

It's hey, Google, you know, navigate me to the local codes or whatever it is. That's the next level of what's

available today in normal cars. And then even past that is

Apple's showcased multiple times and how they want to work with car manufacturers to literally, the screens are all.

They're running is an Apple OS. So, Apple reads everything, your

engine management system. And all of that thing, it

controls and manages, all of that, vile offering a seamless experience. When it comes to navigation,

voice control, you know, calendars all of those other things. So it's got a skin.

But it shows all the vehicle diagnostic information, revs, everything is sort of shown through this apple ecosystem, Apple for cars. That's what Google is also doing

with pasta and Volvo and other brands as well into the future.

So if the car brands are smart, and if they want to try and stay ahead, they can't be tech companies because they are not traditionally. They've always bought stuff from

other companies do, you know, blackberries a big player in a lot of these Caro SS, but another yeah, Blackberry is a pretty big player and a lot of the stuff running is sort of running blackberries OS is but consumer demand is so much different now. So that's where Google and apple

have nothing to lose. And they're coming in, with the

huge power and saying we've already got the software, all you need is this is the hardware that you need to install your cars. And then your customers will

have the best possible experience and then Apple and Google will sell that data back. The car company, which is what

they've been trying to do to try and monetize the data, the car companies have, but they've failed quite badly because you need a whole lot of infrastructure to manage the data, which they don't have. So the future is Apple and

Google coming to your cars. And for all the cars, obviously,

head units with Apple carplay and Android auto is the way to go. Well, here's the thing is, like,

I'm off to join my Forrester and when I sell it to my sister and I Has dropped back in my laser, like you like, but even before that, like when I was just one between the two cars like I just felt like I was stepping back in time hopping in the lights because I had no, I had no apple carplay had no Android your Android auto, nothing like that. So I actually went, this is a

few years ago now, but I went back and bought a Pioneer, head unit that put in that runs on Android auto and plugged it in and that's all. And that also they are

constantly updating as well, but they update through your phone and that instantly brought that car back to the 21st century yet. It doesn't have dual zone

climate control or anything like that.

None of that. None of that shit bothers me.

What's important to me is like, I have my connectivity, because I kind of felt naked with that after you become so reliant on Earth for driving us for so long.

Especially when I was gettin, getting the laser fixed, like I didn't drive the car and that's when I got my hands on the Forester. And I off to driving that for so

long and he'll be making the laser was like yeah I kind of really got like music and a blue and blue tooth.

I don't have but you don't mind maps and have anything.

I can't say, Hey, Google can't say do the kind of do this.

Can't do that. You know, and it made me feel

naked and I didn't expect to feel that way after driving, excuse me up to driving that car, you know, it's It made me after realizing the enjoyment of having it.

Now that's a on actually kind of need it.

Now we know it's kind of great to have in all my cars so I'm going to ask you this question Rob specifically because obviously you've grown up with when you're a bit older than us.

But you've seen you've seen cars, develop from, you know, from having virtually very primitive stereos to where they are. Now when do you think this has

been the biggest change than the last 10 years or so in terms of tech like like like connectivity Tech or do you think or do you think it's gradually been getting there and this is just like kind of like getting a gradual thing that's occurred.

I can see over the last More. So maybe our last six or seven

years, whether it's really Advanced quite a bit with all the technology going into the cars.

We've got, you know, your track apps, you've got your all your different applications, all there at your fingertips, in at the steering wheel and that all connecting with your Bluetooth, or downloads, the new software online.

Now, like like was talking about the sink 3D other day, Maddie and sink for is even better again.

So Ford have been pretty good Norman going about 40 days.

As much as I don't like them, they're doing some good things, some of that stuff and seems to be Fairly reliable, but there, there are the annoying things as well with some of the apps.

Sometimes the apps do seize up and I found that having my Mustang out in the sun, the whole entire Dash, just went blank. And and apparently a common

occurrence with Mustangs that the dash is just go blank with the sitting out in the sun on a real hot day.

So you got those other things that you got to sort of Contained with, when you, when you buying technology that, you know, that it's not as robust as an old analog type system.

So you've got that as well. And when something fails,

everything fails. Hmm.

So that's what I find. But you do feel naked and lost

like I had to put 2005 Porsche Cayenne and I'll help you used to jump into it after, you know, getting out of the Mustang or whatever it was. And there's nothing here.

My Bluetooth. I can't even pick up my phone to

the All right, if you need a CD to put it into CD for the satellite navigation, and I didn't have the CD, so I couldn't use the navigation, things like that.

So, but I've always been one for having things at your fingertips, when it comes to, especially with you more so stereo systems, and having the Bluetooth connectivity and having Spotify fantastic in that respect.

But really annoying thing, is that your phone knows where you going all the time. Same time, helping your car

tells you how far it is to hand but I don't want to go home.

So what'd you tell her I'll be home is where I'm going somewhere else or every morning you jump into the test and says, it's going to take you 10 minutes to get to work.

I'm not going to work today. It's see those.

That would be really awkward if you feel like your partner hopped in the car and you'd been somewhere a bit dodgy and they'd be like, what is this address? Oh, it's a men's Gallery.

Oh, sinking things, right? And whatever, but they're just

in some ways, if you've got your calendar synced it is pretty amazing. I walk in the car, like open the

door, so I don't have a key. The the phone connects

automatically knows I'm close by.

I open the door get in and it's already got where I need to go fully Navigator. D to go, you know because as you

know you guys know I've got to when I when I moving cars around around my carport, jump out of one car because I've got my phone and I'm jumping into another car.

It's already playing my Spotify to.

Wow, exactly knows exactly. Where are my seating positions?

All of that is already adjusted before I get in the car.

That's unreal. So and it's the same, you can go

and take that you can go and down with the new systems, you can go on hire a test line, Los Angeles and when you open it video app, it will have your settings, and your Spotify account and all of that, doesn't matter where you are now, that's what is sort of like, That's what the if the other manufacturers can get there in five years, that would be pretty good, but it will take them a little bit longer to get there, but looking at just that, yes, it's annoying.

Rob, as you said when on a Saturday, you get in and you're like, it's taking you to work or whatever.

Sometimes I'm the same. I'm, I want to know how to

remove work from from, from the, you know, when you save it because it prompts you like, is this your work?

Okay. Yes.

Once you've done it, you can't undo it and I want to I do it because I'm yeah, but it's but that's where the connected vehicles are really going. And I think customer or consumer

expectations will become. That's part of the reason why we

are where we are. Because we're so used to our

phones, but at the same time, the systems are getting more and more complex, and they legitimately are getting more and more distracting. That's the SS, the flip side of

the coin isn't really like that's, you know, it's well, it's incredible that you're open to any Tales around the world.

I don't know your settings like that, that's, that's incredible.

The flip side is like, as you were saying rob, you know, one thing goes wrong, they all go wrong to you know, they can, they can get quite distracting because it all I got a message, you know, forget to press the button to say you to.

So you're reading the message and your up the back side of the car, especially getting into a knot in like into an older car.

That doesn't have like you know, emergency braking technology.

Cheese and stuff. So, It's in a lot of ways as a

catch-22, but in a lot of ways, it is a step forward.

And like, you were saying I was about, it was about to say something, but I'm like, there's no point in saying it because like that Tesla features just incredible is like, like the fiestas got sync 3 and it works great, right?

It's got bread crumbs. So you know, you've been in case

you if you can swing it you want because you want to go back and stuff. But the good thing about seeing

three is that I assume so hop in the car.

You know, I hook up my, my my phone straight away, get connect straight away. It doesn't even go in a sink

three. Go straight into go straight

into into into. Go maps.

And I'm just, like, I don't even have to look at seeing three like it works automatically but it's working there in the background. But the Android order is, is,

is, you know, it's taken over and roaring ready to go.

But you said on the other hand, like, with with your systems, there, there is like that. That's unreal.

Like, that's, that's the type of stuff that, like, you'd think of you would even think of yet, and they've thought of that stuff.

So I definitely that blows me away, but it's really interesting as well. Like, even like, even let's say

the in the for A system that is so much better.

Than the Mercedes. The last couple of months, the

Mercedes he could be launched. That system was not very good.

The Cupra, not very good, and Volkswagen has huge issues around us what? Rob was staying early around the

screens and the safety issues around that because people are relying for like they're you know, reversing cameras and a whole lot of other features to be shown on your screens and of the screens go blank, you're doomed.

Hmm, But even just this fundamentals.

Like for example, It was a good example, you connect your phone and Android auto loads up, but to get to Android auto, you have to flip through like four screens and for pushes find the home then to find it other cars a little bit different when you connect it to go straight in which is great, some give you an option. Once you're in Android auto in

the Cupra and let's say you want to take a caller, you want to press your voice button to navigate to somewhere?

It doesn't let you. It says, the phone is not

connected to the actual cards connected to the Android auto.

So the voice commands only work through if the phone is connected to the car, which I'm like it's physically connected to the car, like, you know, I'm not using the wireless Android auto. So implementation is more

distracting. Like, if I wanted to go back to

my maps right after going through four or five different steps, to figure out how to get back to the maps that's running on Android auto, and that those type of distractions.

I think can be avoided by just understanding what the user wants to do. Always give them an option to go

back to Android auto, but I don't even know why I came out of it, because it won't let me do something.

So I think the manufacturers, To think very hard, the more they put unreliable systems in their cars, the more steps people have to make your you're making the cars unsafe for for your drivers. Therefore seems to have done a

really good job from the sounds of things.

Yeah, it's like it's instantaneous, it doesn't ask me anything. Just go straight.

Just go straight into Android auto and you can see reworks.

Well, doesn't it? Well, yeah, it works flawlessly,

like, I've not had a single issue with with with, with sink or your with connection, connecting my phone to it connects today. I haven't had any connection

issues. No Bluetooth is no nothing.

It work. It works.

Flawlessly and yellow. So I've been reading a little

lower at the jurors. They are this distinct systems

getting and getting a bit long in the tooth now and stuff.

But I'm like It works, it updates, regularly, it does, or does everything needs to end and considering some other systems, like you were saying Reza, just trash and a brand-new, you know, I really great like the rub. You you've been using C3 for a

while in your Mustang and hopping from that into into, let's say, Harley's Holly's C63, what were the things easy to use the same system, right? I just died by just shaking

head. When I sit in a C63, I wouldn't

know what to press or where's got no idea?

Where's the Mustang in straight away?

So probably is a ticket. You'd probably love the

Mercedes, but it's, I think they're very technical in the way. They've set up their software in

a way to run it. So, you need to understand the

software a bit more even in the early days when you had, you know, the thumb drive on the Mercedes on a on the console, there was very difficult to navigate through all the different systems in the earlier days.

Yeah, I think it's easier now with, hey, Mercedes and whatnot, but the earlier ones were a bit difficult to sort of get through. And then we're so used to voice,

right? And we spoken about voice a

couple of times. Some basic functionality like

Google does really well, it understands you really well cirie would do the same thing. Why?

Why manufacturers somehow don't realize Ikea like the old here.

I had so easy connect every time it connects you press the voice button, it goes straight to your Google phone or I have my Google phone connected and it knows what you're talking about.

Obviously even understands, you know, my foreign language.

And all the rest of it but it's it gets it.

Whereas the Cupra and these other cars which say you're not connected to the car but you're actually connected to Android auto. It should all be one system,

they shouldn't be two separate things because then drivers are being fidgety or the trying to figure things out for something, that's very basic and it's more distracted driving.

So I think connected cars are getting better but there is a big difference between A good connected car and one that is just pretending to be 10 units. A great point.

I mean, you were there when I picked up my first, there is the like, the deal, the dealership guy who sold me the car, he was going through the details with me.

He basically said he came a quick rundown.

He's like, okay, let's get your phone connected because you because you because this would be like the one thing that you will never need to do again, be pop-up connected and it's just been easy. Walk you through, and he's like

to easy simple as that. There's no hidden agendas.

Oh nothing, no, no, no. Any weird things about it,

straight away connection every time I'm in the car connected this, that connected connected connected.

I haven't had an issue and it's, you know, it's Flawless and that's how it should be and it should be.

It should be that simple. Every time I retire, I use the

car because it's what I feel comfortable with you.

Think racing with the Mercedes compared to a test like that.

Besides, he's got some real smart connections with the actual car itself, like your HVAC, your windows, your lighting, You can all do voice command.

Where is it? The Tesla has got it on the

display but you can't actually do it via any verbal Direction.

So, interesting Rob, next time you sit in the Tesla on a very cold day. Yeah.

Press the voice button and go to infinity and beyond, okay?

And it will turn on your heated seats.

It will turn on your heated steering wheel.

It will crank up the AC to the max, okay?

Terms of heated up the voice controls this.

A guide to it, okay? And if once you discover it, you

won't go back and we'll make the Mercedes system.

Look very primitive. Wow.

Say they go in unless you know, this sort of stuff.

Yeah. Or try to read up about it.

You don't really know it's not again intuitive today and Tesla does a very poor job at telling, anyone anything.

Yeah, so that's not, you know, that's no one's fault particularly, but definitely, they don't tell you anything.

At all. So yeah, I think that's the

voice commands in Tesla work really well, especially the navigation stuff that heating the cooling.

The audio system that opening the chart Port switching on Christmas, Santa mode, whatever you want to do.

The more it does, the voice system does better than most.

But obviously, you know, sort of need to know the commands as such and then there's all these hidden ones.

Like you can tell it to open its butt.

Are going to will open the charge port and and those type of things as well, but yeah, there's some normal ones and there's some naughty ones as they say, kg I didn't do this.

There's also the flip side of this coin to write.

Like, for example, people that aren't as tech savvy, you know, you know, I mean, and they work. They're coming into a world now,

where everything is so connect, like, it.

I mean, us for relatively good with technology.

My dad, on the other hand, bless him.

He's just he's just got, he's got no, he's got no idea.

And You know, for example, with, with his Co, he's got a obviously, a 2016 aurion, it's got satellite navigation, got voice commands, got all good, all those sorts of things.

But even I struggle, you know, trying trying to figure it out and he's like to me that you like me.

Yes. They can.

You come put an address for me that I need to.

I need to go to tomorrow because I don't know how to do that.

So I came here and set it up for him and he went but, you know, I think the technology for some people it's really hard and that's why I think like, for example, the Google system or the or the Near the Android auto system and a car places are moving very to very good system because they're so simple.

And, and if you use a telephone every day, you'd be able to kind of get your way around it, you know, and I think for them that's will be the best option. Because like, I generally, like

I feel bad for a lot of, for a lot of people that don't really struck, you know, they're not as Tech literate as us.

And, you know, there are coming into world now where it's just a complete nightmare. It's pretty decent.

Like, I know my dad, he's a male ways to go everywhere and I get that, it's in Google Maps. It's easy to just all you have

to do is you know go into your maps and type in the address or you know you can do a voice command because I'll it's too much trouble. It's too hard and just doesn't

want to know. Yeah and I think for, you know

older people Accessibility is something that they really need to like these manufacturers really need to hack.

Keep at the Forefront of it now, because if you're going to older people, generally are the ones with the money and they're going ones that are going to be able to afford new vehicles.

And if you make vehicles that are too hard for them to use and don't guide them through stuff and don't make it easy for them to understand, then they're going to get frustrated, they won't use it and they will pull the mail way out again.

Absolutely. Like I'm going to a good family

friend of mine. He's got a w204 C250 Mercedes?

Okay. And he's like to me, can you

help me? Can you help me?

Connect my phone to the car as just a very basic Bluetooth a bit? Like I am struggle doing it.

The menus are bloody horrible. I'm like whoever the zone is

deserves to be shot by. It was it was, it was

horrendous. And I you know, I connected it

for him and then I had issues. Next, I have to re re wipe the

whole car, do it again, then it finally worked and I was just like, this is this is horrendous.

Like where is the simple connection a bang and it does, it'll make it like, for example, with the for system, you connect your phone with a, with a USB already clicked, it connects automatically the Bluetooth and and your other connections does a lot to make it sound. It doesn't forget so, you know,

you just connect at once in the end at it, you know.

And it's I'm just like, yeah. This is the reason why

technology has come so far in 10 years, you know.

Funny thing, I got to say that. If my my friends uncle bought a

brand-new GLE, 400 alltech in it in the world, all the driver AIDS and Lane, keep assist and everything.

The first thing you did when you saw my son Holly, you guys can you turn all this off because it's annoying to shit out of me.

He's turned everything off. Yeah yeah, yeah.

That does not surprise me at all.

He just didn't want it. But see, this is what you need

to make things so much more seamless and easier for people to use. Right.

It shouldn't feel like a chore because it has I remember the start-stop functions when they came into cars, right?

Everyone that had one wanted to turned off because they didn't want the car to stop at a set of Lights.

Now it's sort of accepted for whatever reason.

But it's like all of this new technology when it gets rolled out there has to be a user, has to have a level of control over it. One thing I really love about

it. Us anytime then.

Roll out a feature, you have to physically.

Do you have to turn it on? Yeah.

If you any change, they make you have to physically turn it on so it's not different to if you don't want it on you don't have to have it on and you have to the car manufacturers, have to give users the control to do it but firstly explain to them.

Why and how feature works. So the easier it is the more

people will enjoy the overall buying experience and owning Experience of this connected cars.

Absolutely. Yeah.

I find it really interesting because like, a lot of cars like, like you, my car included. Like it's, you know, you've got

start stop and it has to happen. Every time you open the car like

you got to turn it off. Every time you return you start

the car and it gets annoying as you go like, oh yeah, pull up the satellite so I forgot about it turn, turn it off and you get rid of it. I get why it's there.

It's important to have bit. Forcing it upon people's also is

kind of a negative of the situation because you don't want to get. I want to feel like you You're

being controlled by the tech. Now, Scotty in your, in your

Liberty did have you upgraded? The stereo on that or is that

already how you Hells? Yeah, I mean it is an upgrade

but it's nothing that any of you people are running.

It's like the Bluetooth in its ancient.

So my new phone doesn't connect to it doesn't really have auxiliary or anything just CD, its touchscreen and stuff but you know, it's back when it's got that.

Remember, Pandora music? Yeah, yeah, it's got that long

so you know, Sold. So I'm not used to using new

technology in cars. All I do is just check the radio

on Triple M or gold FM. And yeah, stations and and

that's it, you know, if I need Maps or anything like that, I'll just put it into my phone, set it up where I can see it and that's it, that's just kind of what I've have been used to but hearing all this awesome technology and I will be great to connect your phone and things like That and be able to listen to Spotify and stuff like that. But yeah.

I think just because that's just what I've been used to.

That's just what my car's. I've had I've you know I've

never owned a new car. You know, the newest car I've

ever owned is a 2005 model and that was an EVO.

So if you have any special on that, so I also think basically like it could see as you like, you use your phone like, as soon as you get a car or like a here, you know?

With that you'll adopt like that like really quickly because you'll have that connect instant connection and you'll be like this as and then you'll realize as soon as you don't have you you feel a bit naked without it which is which is so weird.

I never thought I'd be saying that, you know, until now I think technology has done is become so user-friendly that it doesn't matter. Like, as you were saying, you

know, some of these older systems, you can't even try and decipher they've made that complicated let alone Anybody else? So user-friendly is, I think

number one. So then everybody can use it,

you don't need to be a technician to be able to figure out how to use it. Nice and simple as what

everybody wants. Can I just also show you guys

look, this is my connectivity hub for my motorcycle.

Oh wow. Yeah, it gives me my tire

temperatures when a service is next to it gives you everything.

So if I go there, well actually give me The all the other details to see, how much fuel I got in the car on the bike, the range of fuel, everything almost and that's actually the exact same thing. And basically, it tells me how

much fuel of got where it is tire pressures when it's do or like the oil live. So, I wanted to do for a

service, you can book, you can book your service through the Gap. Well, that's awesome.

Well, the ride. So the rods have been on where

I've been here and it'll tell you, whiny roads, Give you navigation on off-road Road or bypass fairies tollways.

It just gives you absolutely everything.

Yeah, it's just really full-on. So he's got our garage

notifications. It's got absolutely everything.

That's pretty good. The range is how many hamburgers

scoffed at the app and I never used it.

I hadn't didn't use it for the first year.

I had the bike, but over the last six months, I started using it and it's been fantastic. The even gives you lean angle

and stuff like that and gives you Telemetry of the motorcycle.

That's awesome. That's it.

Yeah, that's cool. So, my last question for you

guys before we move on, is where do you think text and go?

Do you think we've kind of hit kind of pig Tech in terms of like El, user-friendliness because we've got our phones are so connected now to it to our cars or do you.

Think like Rivers saying that, that crazy witchcraft of hoping to any tears or in the world and you'll be your settings will be exactly. Same.

Do you think there's more stuff like that coming?

Because like, I'm like, I'm yeah, as a thing.

As it is, like I said, I kind of made my laser feel like a 2022 car, all 2023. Now I should say because I've

just put, I've just different aiming system is essentially perfect. Like, I've got no complaints

about it. Yeah, it's going to go a lot

further. Did you see that?

I was in the news today about that, what's that electronics?

Yes, three years. And I've got the actual

Chrysler. Got the concept pick up where it

actually follows you on a worksite.

See that tools? And carrier tools and we'll

project cars are already doing it now with that project, certain lighting but they'll you'll be able to use it as a full-on projector and play movies on it and stuff like that. That's cool.

You know. So there's a whole lot of other

things, you'll be able to use your car for in the future which is fantastic. I think Hmm.

Well, what I want to look at At a Kia.

Sportage it you press a button you on your keychain and and the key fob and it reverses out to you if you're in a tight car park and goes back forward and you can, you can do all that sort of stuff which I know it's only been able to do in Texas for a very long time, as bit, like it just blew my mind, like how far technology technology is going.

I mean, r is obviously the big Tech I do.

Do you see it going even further than what we have?

Like like like, what else can it do besides besides just drive you automatically, which is doing anyway, what I think does?

The the easiest way of looking Is whatever our phones can do today. Cars will be able to do in the

next two to three years time. If the manufacturers, like Ford,

which I know Force, trying, very hard to stay up to up-to-date and relevant to Consumers, there'll be one of the first people to do it. Tara might be 67 years down the

track and but yeah, I think whatever our phones can do today and what Scotty was saying earlier, I like being able to just use his phone to navigate the places.

Like, that's the fundamental. To love what the systems are

doing already. Yeah.

And if they're doing the, if that's all you need for your car, then, you know, to connect the phone or even just use your phone for navigation and Spotify and whatever else then that's perfect. And I think that whatever our

phones can do today in the next two to three years time.

Most manufacturers will have those systems.

If not, the phones will be in our cars AK, Google will be the one running the iOS like they're doing it post on Volvo and they'll just be doing it more broadly.

You know and as soon as one of these big manufacturers like the the Japanese you know whether it's Toyota Honda whoever jumps on everyone else will jump on pretty quickly.

zero? If you're in an accident or I

370 thousand dollars on a coupe, roll Volkswagen or whatever, just put them, get the same experience, or people will walk away from Brands and I think they have no choice.

Car companies, can't be software companies, yeah, memes in that car companies always out sourced all their components to parties, whereas Tesla's than the other model and brought everything in house as much as I could. I mean, they still got a lot of

passed around from part spins and out sourced.

But they're trying to bring everything in house and Some Automotive companies are thinking the same way now to, to get and hit the ground faster. You could have to start

developing things, in-house and making things in-house, walks wagon, did that with the last CEO, but the CEO was sacked, because of that, right? And her bird, he's lost his job

because he was to local and said we're going to lose thousands of jobs if you don't bring it in-house.

Yeah. And they acquired the spend

billions of Euros acquiring this company to try and do the stuff in house and they wanted to To build one software system that would work on Volkswagen Porsche, you know all of their brands Cupra said whoever, but that was his falling and there was only late last year that he lost his job over that.

And now the new CEO which is part of the I think the Volkswagen family wants to do so saying you'll go back to the same way Outsource and get software from whoever.

But the issue now is they've delaying the launches of their car. Because it was waiting on the

software that was being developed in house and they've hired tens of thousands of software developers but they you know software developers are good ones want to work for Google and apple don't want to work for Volkswagen.

Yeah. So that and then Tesla.

That's what they want to work for.

So I think they will try but I think you're right Rob.

They will go back to Outsourcing and Outsourcing unless they outsourced to the specialist like Google laws or apple who we use their products all the time then.

You know, they're they're in trouble because people will walk through competition buy their products instead it's very easily because I watched a documentary, a while I had to get back on the fourth thing. But for said we're not, we're

not a company, we're not a tech company so they hired Microsoft to do there. I think the early scenes stuff

and I think they worked with them for that because they said, we're not a tech company. So why, why should we waste our

time and resources when we use get somebody, that is a tech company to do it. And I'm you know, I think that's

a smart idea. That's the thing who I care.

Now, and a lot of the car companies that are coming out today. Our tech companies, not coming
