class being inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.

And I want to congratulate you on that.

I know that this is your third time to be nominated.

I think you've said, you even said last week that, you know, just to be nominated is really

the big honor and all the folks who reached out, who actually paid fees to become a part

of the Radio Hall of Fame membership because you have to be a member of that just to vote

and folks went, and you folks went either way.

So I know that you don't boast about that an awful lot, but I just wanted to say

you're well deserved and congratulate you on that achievement.

That's very kind.

It's quite the honor.

But you know, the bigger honor for me was the amount of people who paid money to be able

to vote.

I didn't envision that happening.

It was a shock to me.

I think we overwhelmed the system at the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.

I think single-handedly you might have.

They weren't set up for that.

No.

But hey, at the end of the day it came through and I thank every one of you who voted or even

I am considering three vehicles within this next year.

I'm considering the Lexus TX.

I'm considering the Lincoln Aviator and potentially Acura MDX.

I keep my vehicles on an average of 10 years.

So I wanted to get your opinion on those three, one better than the other, and for longevity

and value retention.

Well, don't get wrapped up so much in resale value, value retention, as you said.

Ten years from now, between those three, it's not going to make any big difference.

So put that low on the priority list.

What are you driving right now?

A 2015 Lexus RX.

I have 195,000 miles on it.

And still going strong?

Still going strong.

If you were going to say to me the very most important thing to you in a new SUV, what

would that be?

Don't take safety out of the issue.

They're all safe.

I would say cabin noise has to be low and wide.

Cabin noise and ride are my top two.

Okay.

That's pretty much going to eliminate the MDX.

I love Acura's, but they're very sporty.

And with sporty, you get a rougher ride.

It's not a bad ride, but it doesn't compare to the TX or the Aviator.

I think the Aviator's got the most comfortable seats I've ever set in.

Will it do the 195,000 miles like your last Lexus has done without any major problems?

Yeah, probably not.

And that leaves us with the TX.

So you're ready to go to a third row seat?

I am.

I have grandchildren now.

I'm hauling around.

That's great.

And I love to do that.

Yeah, I just feel I have the need for that now.

Tammy, I've loved every TX I've reviewed.

Amy's reviewed the TX.

She's loved it as much as I have.

I'd go with the hybrid.

I love the performance and I love the fuel economy.

They went all out and I heard from so many people that I had helped through the years that

I'd never heard from before, didn't know I'd helped them and the staggering thing was the

The heartbreaking stories were the ones where they lost their husband and they had no idea

what to do.

I could have retired after I got out of the car business in 1996 and in fact intended to.

But I was bored and I like helping people, which is why I got in the car business in the

first place.

And stuff like that that I heard from people over the last couple of weeks, it just made

me so happy to be able to do that.

OK, I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson.

I've got 85,000 miles on it.

It's been a great car.

Yeah.

About a year after I had it, they had to put a new transmission in it.

But other than that, no trouble.

So I'm kind of sold on Hyundai's.

My question is, I really like the look of the Santa Cruz, right?

But I don't know the reviews on that.

It's a great little truck.

I mean, I was I was frustrated with it when I finally got to review one

because they've been talking about bringing this truck out for so many years

and it kept flashing pictures of prototypes.

I mean, they they teased this truck for five solid years.

And I'm to the point where I'm thinking they're never actually

going to come out with this little truck.

Well, they finally did.

And I drove it and it wasn't anything like I thought it was going to be.

It it's more of an upscale truck.

Now, with the upscale truck comes the upscale price.

So the first one I reviewed was around the $40,000, as I recall,

which hit me as pretty high.

Because you're getting close now to the Honda Ridge line,

which is larger and has a great reputation.

And you're way over the Ford Maverick,

which is close to the same size, but more fuel efficient,

but admittedly not nearly as nice inside.

So your choice, if you want a small truck is, you know,

spend more and get the Santa Cruz, get that 10 year 100,000 mile warning,

get a great truck or spend a little more than that

and get a Honda Ridge line or spend a little less than that

and get a Ford Maverick and get the hybrid and get yourself,

you know, 42 to 44 miles to the gallon.

In town and on the highway.

OK, do you think the because I'm a widow?

I heard you just mentioned I'm a widow and my thing is dependability.

So do you think what I'm driving now with eighty five thousand miles?

I'm still good for a while. Not really.

Hyundai is making such a better product today than they used to.

I think you're going to I think there's a good chance

you're going to have an oil consumption issue,

which could lead to a complete engine failure.

So I would do something pretty quick.

My question is I'm getting older up here

and I've always been a Lexus person.

I am on my sixth Lexus, yep, which I just sold.

And I have it.

I have it. I have a Tesla at home that my wife uses,

but I want to buy in hybrid.

I don't want to buy another electric car.

Yeah. And I keep getting sucked back into Lexus.

Every time I go out and look at cars,

I go right back to the Lexus.

Yeah, everybody does.

I want to buy I want to buy an RX 350

hybrid with a tech package.

They're looking for a twenty three, a used twenty three, twenty four

because in twenty three, they changed it

where it doesn't have that little mouse pad.

Yes, I hated that.

You know what I'm talking about?

Absolutely. I hate that thing.

It was horrible.

So so I'm looking longevity.

I keep my cars for a long time.

So what would you think about a twenty three, twenty four?

Or even if I find a good twenty five,

that the dealer was using in the service department?

Yep. Do you think I need to get a certified one?

Or am I good just getting something

from the dealer non certified?

I do.

Which way would you go?

I do think certified.

If you're going to go used at all certified.

Now, if you get up, if you if you find a

loaner car, a courtesy car, then, you know,

it's going to come with the full warranty.

But if not, then I'd go certified because of the warranty.

But more just equally as important is

the process that a car has to go through, especially Lexus.

They've got one of the most rigid standards

for a Lexus to be certified that it has to pass.

And so with prices of used SUVs right now,

especially hybrid ones, because that's what everybody wants.

You might be better off looking at new.

So I'm not telling you to look new.

I'm telling you to compare.

Look, CPO, look new and see what the difference is,

because that difference amortized out over 10 years.

If you keep it that long, it's going to be very medical, minimal.

Welcome back to the car pro show, Jerry Reynolds is the car pro, who is now driving around

a brand new Hyundai Palisade 2026.

A lot of folks are commenting about that online

and even in the garage there when you walk up and you see that thing.

It's striking the front of it, especially.

Yeah, it is. They did such a great job.

It's things all new.

And Hyundai, I got to get Randy Parker, the CEO of Hyundai, back on the show

because we had him on, I don't know, less than a year ago.

Yeah, I wouldn't.

Great guy, great guy.

But, you know, you look at the Palisade and you look at the tell-you-ride.

You've got to tell you right.

I do, love it.

And those things came out in 2019 as 20, 20 models.

And you look at sales of those things.

I've never seen a vehicle that came out of the gate strong like those did.

They came out very popular immediately and it continued to be popular.

Five years later have had very, very little in the way of incentives.

And the typical lifespan of a car is, OK, cars hot,

comes out, stays hot.

If it stays hot for six months, it's a hit.

This thing has stayed hot for five years.

Yeah.

And so what did Hyundai do?

They completely redid the whole thing.

Which if it's hot, why would you mess with it, right?

Yeah, I mean, it cost a lot of money to redo a vehicle.

Millions and millions of dollars.

And they had their best sales year ever with the Palisade last year.

Wow.

And so they come out with the 2026 all new, new engine, bigger, longer.

Yeah.

And yet held the price.

Down to close to what the 2025.

That's the most amazing part right there.

That's a trick that Toyota's been doing for ever and ever and ever.

But this thing is the calligraphy, which is the top of the line.

It's got everything in the world that you can put on it.

And it's coming in at a window sticker of 58 grand.

That's unreal.

And by today's standards, 58 grand for a three row SUV.

And this one is roomy, especially now that they've made it bigger.

58 grand sticker.

Is astounding.

It's got front and rear factory dash cams,

which double as your record.

Everything that happens basically.

Yeah, they're rolling all the time.

That's crazy.

It's got a UVC cleaner.

So if you want, if you're if you're worried about yourself

on having germs, stick it in the glove box, hit a button,

and it will give you ultraviolet light.

It's got three rows of 100 watt.

USBC charger ports.

So fast charging.

Extremely fast charging.

It's got 21 inch wheels.

It's got a panoramic memory.

It's got navigation system.

It's got everything in the world.

You can put on it.

Making me crazy.

Now having one now and a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty.

Oh, come on.

For 58 grand on the sticker.

That's a lot of money.

Would it be considered in the class now of large SUV

or is it still?

No, it's still a mid sized three row.

Oh, and it's all wheel drive.

Oh, really? Oh, yeah.

I love that.

Now, here's here's here's the kicker.

Here's the downside.

OK, what is that?

It's coming out in the hybrid in about 90 days.

Oh, and when it does, you watch.

It's going to fly.

Oh, going to fly off the off the shelves.

I mean, it's going to fly off the floor.

It's crazy because it's got it's almost like Hyundai is just.

They're taking the page out of every Toyota book and saying, OK,

let's come out with a hybrid that gets better fuel economy.

But it's got my horsepower.

This one was a 3.5 V six.

It's a brand new engine.

It used to have it's had a 3.8 all these years.

Now it's got a 3.5.

If if I were going to knock this thing for anything,

it would be that it's a little short on horsepower.

You really got to stick a foot in it to get it going.

OK, the hybrid takes the horsepower from 280 to 335.

That's where I'm talking right now.

And that's going to get up and go.

And the fuel economy is better,

which begs the question.

Why would anybody buy this one

when they can get that hybrid for what looks to be

a couple of thousand dollars more, although not official?

Yeah.

Set back and watch.

They did 110,000 Palisades in 2025 for the 2024 calendar year.

They'll do one hundred and fifty thousand next year.

So a bold prediction on your part.

Yes. OK.

Remember where you heard it. OK.

I got a line open if you want to grab it.

Now it's the time eight hundred nine to six seventy seven seventy seven.

And we've got a Los Angeles to talk to Mark.

Mark, what's going on, pal?

Hey, I'm looking at a twenty twenty five Silverado custom.

It comes with the four cylinder.

How reliable is that motor?

It's been fine so far.

And so I'm careful to tell you that so far

because it's still relatively new and we don't know

what the long range ramifications of it are.

What do you use a truck for, Mark?

Just nothing heavy, nothing heavy duty or anything.

I'm going to put 10,000 miles a year on it.

That's yeah.

Yeah, then I think it's probably going to be OK.

What are you driving currently?

A Toyota Tacoma that I love.

Yeah, it my only concern about the the Chevy

in the four cylinder is does have enough power.

You're used to Tacoma, which is pretty well known for good acceleration,

especially if you got a six cylinder.

But even the four cylinder has got good acceleration.

Silverado is pretty heavy truck for a four cylinder engine.

And I have no issue with four cylinder turbos.

I'm a fan, as a matter of fact.

But when you start getting into a vehicle that weighs what that one weighs,

I'm I'm I'm going to be a little standoffish on it until we get more history.

So I think the safe bet is to go on up to the six cylinder.

But if you want to try the four cylinder,

Gerald Motors is putting out some great stuff these days.

And I don't think that put out anything

that hadn't been thoroughly tested.

So my gut feel is it's probably all right,

but I can't tell you with certainty.

And I know that doesn't help. Sorry.

Yeah, because right now it has a five year,

100,000 mile warranty on that motor. Yeah.

But you know, you're going to run it out in five years, right?

Right. Exactly.

So I'll never. Yeah.

You know, how long how long do you think you'll keep this truck

at 10,000 miles a year? Seven, eight years.

OK, so you're going to be under warranty for the first five.

You know, the odds are if you're going to have some problems,

they may show up early and you can take corrective action.

I think it's a little bit of a risk knowing how good that six cylinder is,

knowing how good the 5.3 V eight has been in that Chevy all these years.

I mean, it's been a workhorse and for 10,000 miles a year.

Gas mileage shouldn't be high on your priority list.

You're not driving enough for that to be the number one thing.

I if I were sitting in your shoes,

I'd move up to the six or I'd move up to the five point three.

But you do as you wish.

Yeah, there's a whole lot going on there.

It's expensive. You got one simple little job and that's come back from Brakes

and say the name of the show correctly.

Yeah, you would think I'd get that right.

But no, apparently not today.

I will tell you, though, on the latest newsletter, which drops every Friday,

the car pro newsletter. Yes.

Lots of good information there and one that hit home pretty close to us,

of course, with the recent storms that happened in Texas around July 4th.

And with that, there's a new story about 45,000 vehicles

damaged by recent storms.

And you were talking on the Dallas show earlier, saying that a lot of those

are going to be whitewashed and a lot of those don't even show up

officially where you may buy a car and not know that it was underwater.

Oh, that's it happens every time there's events like this.

Forty five thousand cars between Texas and Florida.

And in the majority of those, even if they get totaled,

they're going to end back up on the market.

Boy, I talk a lot about auto check dot com because I find it more.

I find it more accurate than car facts.

And that's just me.

I've used auto check for a lot of years.

But boy, if you're looking at a used car

any time in the next year or so, you really need to spend that 25 bucks

and and take a look. That's all it is. That's all.

That's really not bad at all.

And if you're shopping cars, I think it's like 50 or 60 dollars.

You can run unlimited reports. Oh, wow.

So you're looking at 10 cars.

You can run 10 reports or 20 or 100 or whatever you want.

Pretty amazing.

But the problem with flood cars is they can make them look

like they've never been in a flood.

But the problems come down the road later

when that wiring starts to corrode and when all those components

start to rust immediately.

It's not a big deal.

But. Wow, down the road, it can be horrific.

I mean, just the car just is there's no place to start fixing things.

Obviously, if I total it, I would imagine it's probably already been totaled.

Yeah. But just, you know,

somebody did a title wash job and they sent the title out of state,

re-registered it in a state that doesn't brand titles that say flood damaged

or totalled or limelaw buyback.

Some states don't put that on their title.

So they'll send the title work to that state, register the car

and get a clean title. That's amazing. And you never know.

Hi, good morning. Thank you, Jerry. Hi, buddy.

We're looking, we're looking at a Ford Escape, a used one.

2020, Desi Sport Hybrid has 53,000 miles

and the engine was replaced a year ago

with the big recall that Ford had back then.

Is that new replacement engine?

Is that a problem or does the warranty follow that engine

of the original factory seven year hundred thousand powertrain?

How does that work?

Yeah, it's it's six year hundred thousand, if I remember correctly.

So check that to be sure you might be right.

But yeah, what they did to with the fix for that,

because this this happened to my mother-in-law.

I've got her a new escape and at 18,000 miles,

we had put an engine in it, which was a shocker for me.

Yeah. But they took care of everything.

The replacement has been great.

That we got that new engine in about four years ago,

and it's been super sent.

So if it's had a new engine put in it, then you've got

you got a great vehicle.

There was never any other problems.

They just had that one thing where all the gas and the oil mixed

and ruined a hundred thousand engines.

Now, if you got a new one, it's going to make you a great car.

The hybrid system works well.

I've seen them go 200,000 miles.

So yeah, I think you're going to be fine.

I think you'll be OK right there.
