Well, you know, it's a hot summer and I guess out in the yard yesterday,

which I typically don't do.

We rent and the homeowner actually takes care of that.

But the wife thought it would be a good idea to have a nicer living space

out back for us to get out there and chop down some bushes

and do some work back there.

So I wasn't used to it and a little bit sore today.

I can understand.

But it was good spending time with her.

We had a good sweat doing all the work, had a nice big lunch.

It was a nice day.

Mean something else in that regard, I guess?

Yes, it is.

Calling in reference to the Volkswagen iBuzz van in the 62 to $67,000

Windows Staker journey.

They won't even let me test drive one.

It seems like most of the dealerships here in town stock

less than two.

I don't understand.

Do you see any future?

We're a big Volkswagen user in the beetle.

And Lord knows we've bought a bunch of those new.

And, of course, they discontinued those.

But this is not going to be a primary vehicle.

Well, I had it back around the first of the year, maybe.

Let me look and see.

I had the Pro S rear-wheel drive.

Pro S.

And actually it was March.

I had it in March.

The review went up March 19th.

I thought it was super cool.

I mean, I really enjoyed driving it.

It didn't drive exactly like the old Volkswagen buses did.

They were very unique.

But it was so much bigger than I thought it was going to be.

And it had so much room.

I've never been inside a three-row vehicle that had as much room

all the way around.

Headroom, legroom, you name it, cargo.

It was great.

I loved it.

After waiting all the years we waited for this thing,

by the time they finally got it out, the EV Buzz was over.

I mean, they missed it.

They took too long to bring it out.

So nobody's going to stock something that is going to be

a slow seller.

And with the $7,500 federal money going away at the end of next

month, the dealers started pulling back on the orders for

electrics.

They'd probably been wise, of course, hindsight's 20-20,

but they'd probably been wise to have stocked up on

electric cars because there's been a run on EVs since it

was announced the 7,500 was going away.

Now, with all that said, are you going to buy or are you going

to lease?

Going to buy and write a check.

You're going to write a check for it.

Okay.

I loved it.

I'd personally, I've got an electric car myself, but I

leased it and I would always lease an electric car.

You do as you wish, but I would lease it and then at the

end of three years, if you want it, if you loved it and it

hasn't gotten, and there hasn't been a lot of new

developments in electric cars, then buy it.

That's totally up to you.

What kind of range?

What kind of range, Jerry, on that?

A little over 300 miles, which is okay.

I mean, that's not enough to go on a long vacation in, but

it's certainly enough for in town.

And I don't remember, Gary, if the one I had had the

extended range battery or not, I'm trying to flip through

my review and see if it did.

I don't recall, but it was over 300.

And I absolutely loved it.

I thought it was, I thought it was fun.

I thought it was useful and it was easy to get in and out

of.

The range was fine.

The charging was good.

Charging was quick, but even though you'd want a

home charger, they can help you with that too.

The newsletter this week had another interesting

article.

We are just talking off here.

Really thought this might actually be more popular

than it was as far as clicks are concerned,

but it's the story about Texas leading the nation

and $1,000 a month car payments.

$1,000 plus, really.

According to a lending tree study, Texas number

one, 12.8%.

And reading into the story, you start to see the

reasons why the higher vehicle prices obviously

interest rates are higher.

The trim levels too are expensive, more than

they've ever been.

Well, and there's pockets of Texas where

vanity comes into play.

Yeah.

I mean, in Dallas, I think it's the worst.

Keeping up with the Joneses.

Yes.

Right, exactly.

Yes.

Get way over their head.

Exactly.

And, you know, in car payments, $1,000 a month

for a lease, I mean.

That is really high for a lease.

Wow.

I don't know if I could do it.

I mean, my BMW payment on a lease,

on a lease is coming up on that amount of money,

but it's, I'm not there.

Yeah.

So, you know, I don't know if that's something to be

proud of.

California was fifth.

That's true.

Yeah.

For all of our friends there in the LA area, so.

Rhode Island, the least expensive, at least

never have people doing that anyways.

Well, and you would think that in Texas,

because the electric vehicles, which have

typically been a lot more money,

haven't been as popular here as they've been

in other places.

So you would wonder, what are you guys buying

if you're at $1,000 a month on a lease?

And how much of that is people who are

upside down in their last car

rolling that into a new lease?

Exactly.

Yeah.

And, you know, if we go back to the COVID era,

a lot of people overpaid for cars.

Well, they had to, because in some cases

you couldn't get them unless you just paid

the high jacked up price on it.

Well, you're paying sticker plus.

Definitely.

Good long while.

So, yeah, Texas, congratulations.

You're number one.

You lead the nation in $1,000 plus monthly car

payments.

Oh, man.

I've got some really good stuff working

We have a 22 Tahoe

has 80,000 miles on it.

And we want to get a comparable vehicle.

We're looking for an upper level SUV

with a second row bench.

And everything comes in a captain's

that we've tried to find.

What's the deal?

The captain's chairs on the second row

are just more popular.

Usually they're offered,

but the dealers don't order them

because they're hard to sell.

That's why I want to go ahead and get it ordered

because by the time we get the new one,

I want to get rid of my 22

before it gets that 100K.

Yeah.

And that's a good idea.

Have you set yourself a limit

on how much you want to spend on this vehicle?

I'd like,

I currently hopefully get that 44K

and I'm probably looking at hopefully 50K

is my upper limit by putting on a new one.

Okay.

So you could go back with a Tahoe.

You could go back with,

or go to a Yukon if you wanted to.

The new Ford Expedition.

Doggone, you got to look at that thing.

It is nice.

I just reviewed it.

Is it a second row bench or not?

It'll come in a second row bench.

And it seems to me that the four dealers

order more seats than in the expedition

the General Motors does in the Tahoe and the Yukon.

And you can't get a bench in the Escalade.

So plus it's going to be way out of the budget.

But I would tell you to go look

at an expedition,

either King Ranch or Platinum,

one of the two.

The one that I reviewed that was in yesterday's newsletter

was the Trimmer, which was nice,

but it's really an off-roader.

That's not the one I would buy.

I'd get a King Ranch or a Platinum

and that's going to fit right into your budget.

And I got to tell you, dude,

in the past,

when somebody's asked me about big SUVs,

the expedition has not been high on my list.

In fact, I seldom mentioned it,

but that just changed because of this one.

It is top notch.

Hi, guys.

I have a couple of Ford questions.

Yeah.

I'm wondering your opinion about the Ford F-50 Lariat

Hybrid.

I love it.

If I were buying a new truck today,

that's exactly what I'd get.

It's fantastic.

Okay.

And secondly, do you see Ford bringing back the 0% financing

before the end of the year?

Maybe.

Predicting incentives is completely impossible.

But, I mean, they've got 0 for 48 right now,

which makes me think that we'll probably see 0 for 60

a little later in the year.

Okay.

And when?

Who knows?

I mean, so much of the incentives.

What triggers incentives is when vehicles are setting on the

lot and not selling as quickly as they want them to,

because it's a big cycle.

Okay.

So if cars start to set, dealers stop ordering.

Dealers stop ordering the plants back up.

The only way an automaker can make,

the only way they can make a profit is building vehicles.

Well, if they don't have orders for them,

they're not going to build them, right?

So then they start the cycle all over again.

They put on incentives, make a move,

make the dealers reorder, and then the factories are running

and you see smoke everywhere around Detroit.

That's smoke out of Detroit makes everybody happy.

So.

My husband typically trades his trucks in at 100,000.

You feel good about that F-150 hybrid?

Oh, absolutely.

I feel good about it up to 200,000.

There's no problem.

Because I looked on your website and I didn't see anything

and I didn't see any reviews on it.

Yeah, you missed it.

In the search box, put power boost.

One word, power boost.

It'll pull my review up.

And I think I've had it twice now.

But that's it.

I can't tell you how many people I've helped get them

and everybody loves them.

Now, the fuel economy is better than a non-hybrid.

Is it substantially better?

No, it's not.

But to be able to power as many things as it will power

is fantastic and it's not much more money.

this week in the newsletter that came out yesterday

as a Jerry YouTube video, your video of the week,

where it's one of these things where you kind of cheer

it on because you almost see it coming up Main Street.

Oh, yeah.

And when it happens, it's glorious.

We're talking about a lady driver.

She's in like an SUV.

A van follows her into what looks like to be a private

drive and a bunch of people, but I think they're all men

actually, get out and they intend to car check her.

And the way she handles it is like unreal good

where she kind of showed them that, you know,

she's got a pretty dangerous weapon in that big SUV.

And you've got a van and you're out of the van and you're,

you put yourself into a vulnerable place and it's,

it's great to watch.

Tell the truth.

Did you almost feel sorry for the carjackers?

A little bit because it was, they were humiliated.

It was crazy funny.

Oh my goodness.

They were so dumb.

And then to have, have video cameras for the whole

world to see how stupid they look.

They certainly run away from her because she,

she backs up and she, she bounces the van out

and then she's back up and then she sites wipes it again.

And these guys just run for down the street away from it.

They're, I just want to get away from this crazy lady.

Cause she was not having it.

I love that the fact that she like defended herself

and made them look stupid.

She won.

She definitely won.

No, that was great.

they went from one pickup truck to another vehicle.

Then they went to the big rig.

They were eventually,

and they're still at large actually at this writing.

So I don't know if they've called him yet or not,

but that was all over the new Sunday night in LA.

There was another chase in LA last night.

Maybe it was the same people.

Could be.

They seem to have a pension for doing something like that.

They get around.

Thank you for taking my call.

You were talking earlier about the leasing and about

paying like a lump sum.

Yeah.

Prepaid leases.

Yeah.

Yes, sir.

Well, I asked about that.

And I also asked if I could pay like double notes or something

like that.

And I was told no.

And my lease is about up in February.

So I guess I lost out.

Well, yeah.

And look, if you leased a couple of years ago,

some of the,

some of the car companies weren't offering prepaid leases

then.

This has been a thing in the past.

And then when interest rates started to go up,

they kind of got away from it.

And now they're back.

Okay.

So it may not have been 2023 Tacoma.

Yeah.

It may well not have been available at the time.

Okay.

But what are you going to do at the end of the lease?

Are you going to buy it or what are you going to do?

Oh, yes, sir.

Because I spoke with you before regarding what I had done,

which maybe wasn't the smartest thing to do.

I went on and put leather seats in it.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

I remember talking to you.

Yeah.

You'd want to, you'd, you know, you'd probably want to buy that.

Although I will tell you that with the used car market up the way it is,

the leather would add to the value.

So being it's Tacoma, you're going to have equity at the end of it,

especially because it's got leather.

So if you love it and, you know, you just don't want anything else,

that thing, how many miles you got on it?

You don't even want to know.

I only have probably about 15, I mean, I haven't driven it a whole lot.

It don't even have 5,000 miles.

Oh, then you ought to, you should buy it.

You should just buy it.

If you can do that at any time, if you want to go ahead and buy it now.

I probably wouldn't because it looks like interest rates are going to come down.

And if you're going to refinance the balance of it.

Now, if you're going to pay cash for the balance, I'd do that anytime.

I'd do that tomorrow.

But if you're going to finance the balance, then I'd probably give it

to maybe December.

And let's see if the rates come down.

If they, if they start to fall, then I'd jump in and refinance it and pay it off.

The bank or whoever you finance with or the dealership will pay it off

and then refinance what's left.

And you'll have a good truck for years to come.

Well, my question is to I'm just, you know, because I put those leather seats

in, I didn't think about it at the time, but now is that going to,

is the truck going to cost me more now?

No.

Because I don't really own it.

Nope.

Not a penny.

Because I paid for those myself and they were custom.

Yeah.

No, it won't cost you a penny.

The residual value was set when you bought, when you leased it

and that's not going to change.

It's not going to go up.

It's not going to go down.

It's going to, it's set in stone.

Well, I think they added that to the price when I did that.

They took the cloth, you know, and they put in leather seats.

Okay.

They probably raised the residual a little bit at that time.

But no, there will be nothing else.

There won't be anything owed on the truck other than you'll have

to pay the tax-tied license again.

But it'll be on the lower amount of the residual value.

So it won't be on the full amount again.

Yeah.

Because I didn't want them to like, you know, here I pay for

and then they charge me that it comes with leather seats.

Nope.

Not at all, kiddo.

Not a bit.

Okay.

Hey, Jerry, it's an honor listening to you, man.

Your show is very expensive to me.

Me too.

Every time I hear it, like last year, this very time,

this very week, I was listening to you in a drove to a dealership

in South of Houston and bought a Ford, I mean,

a Toyota Tundra limited non-hybrid.

And it's only been a year and these guys keep calling me,

wanting me to upgrade and trade it in on a new one.

So my question is, are used vehicles going up in value now

because of the upcoming fear of price increases?

Oh yeah, they already have.

They already have.

Should I wait a little bit to trade this sucker in?

No, I would not, if you're going to do it.

And here's the reason.

The end of this month, 1st of September,

every car traditionally turns a year older.

Is yours a 24 or 25?

It's a 24.

Okay.

So it's going to be two years old really fast

and the value is going to drop some.

Now, the market's high, especially on trucks and SUVs.

But as we, the auto industry recognizes model year in change

in September, early September, the prices start to drop.

You'll see auction prices drop.

You'll see book values drop.

So if you're going to do something,

then I would do it in the next couple of weeks

while the value is still high.

That's why the dealership, look,

dealerships have software to know,

they can estimate what your vehicle is worth.

They know they can make a deal with you right now

on a new one between what yours is valued at

and the incentives on the new ones.

So they're going to dangle a carrot out there for you.

And if you're going to make a trade,

let's do it now because the value will drop

on your current tundra.

If you love it, keep it.

Either way, but I'd look at numbers.

Yeah.

Very big fan of that.

I love that thing.

Kind of waiting on the hybrid to come out later

on this year.

What did you drive?

Well, it's funny.

I had a Hyundai Anarchy of the same week.

Is that right?

Yeah, the Sorrento Hybrid.

How is that?

Nice.

The Sorrento Hybrid.

My first go around with that one.

Okay.

Sorrento, I've always liked if,

if you really want to tell your ride,

but you really don't need as big a third row seat

as you get with the Tell You Ride

and then you know you've got one.

Yeah, I do.

Then the Sorrento is a good step down

for about $5,000 less.

Oh, okay.

That's a nice break.

It is.

You know, if you need,

if you're regularly going to haul adults

in the third row seat,

then go ahead and get the Tell You Ride.

Right.

But if it's going to be kids back there

or seldom adults back there,

then the Sorrento fits in really well.

It's got a lot of the same features.

Is it stacked up pretty well as far as tech?

Yeah, it does.

It's got just about everything.

One kind of annoying thing that I noted in the review

was the control panel for the air conditioner.

You have to push a button to change that

to become the control panel for the sound system

and the screen.

Okay.

So if you got the air conditioning controls up on the screen,

not the navigation screen,

but below that where the controls are.

And you've got to look down and see which one it is.

It's on because three or four times,

I went to turn the radio up

and turn the temperature control up.

And you can't do it.

It's the same button.

Oh, interesting.

Okay.

Now I got you.

Then you hit one button and it changes then to the radio.

And now your volume works.

But your air conditioning doesn't work.

I'm sure that's for economy,

but that would drive me nuts a little bit.

It was a little annoying.

That's what I said.

It's an annoyance.

Yeah.

But 34 miles to the gallon highway,

34 miles to the gallon city.

Can't beat that.

34 miles to the gallon highway combined.

So the mileage was good.

That's good.

Hi, buddy.

Nice to talk to you, sir.

You too, pal.

Hey, I drive professionally.

I usually, I own doolies,

you know, crew cab doolies.

And I'll be coming up on my 2 millionth mile this year

on the road.

So I drive about 17,000 miles a month.

Woo.

But I purchased a 23 GMC Denali

and at 70,000, the transmission failed

because of the valve body.

And then now at 150, it's going again.

Oh, no.

And I've had the Denali, I mean,

the Duramax in the past with the Allison

transmission and their bullet proof.

Oh, they're great.

They're fantastic.

This truck, though, this 10 speed,

the truck is stamped Allison.

And I was led to believe it was an Allison.

But now, doing my research,

I found out it doesn't have any Allison parts in it.

I didn't know that.

So this is a.

What's out and consulted with both Ford and GM

for these 10 speeds and GM built this thing

and from what I've read, they used lighter parts.

These are not heat treated.

And there's thousands of these trucks in the dealerships

late on.

I've heard.

I've heard plenty of stories.

Absolutely.

And there's there.

I'm not going to beat up GM, but I've spent about $30,000

on this truck in repairs.

Yeah.

And it's prevented me from putting miles.

I should have about 300,000 miles on this truck.

on this Allison transmission thing.

Jerry, I just drove to Texas and bought a brand new

truck of my dreams.

It will be 75.

So it's the last duly I buy.

Yeah.

20, 25, 3500 limited Longhorn with every

bell and whistly you could get.

I love it.

We had some electronic problems because it's got

more electronics than the space shuttle, I think.

Yeah, I do too.

And so I got back.

I bought it from Blue Bonnet.

It was just wonderful in New Braunfels, Texas.

Yeah, I know one.

25 per mile.

I'm here in 1000 Oaks and all the dealers here are just

terrible.

So I have a question.

I have a Mopar 120,000 mile, 72 month warranty because

it's going to be a working truck.

I have a class A license, but we use it for, you know,

part of our business.

Yep.

And can I go to a private shop where I get more

personalized service?

Because if I take it to any of these shops locally,

the mechanics just in California, especially the good

mechanics that left California are not that good,

especially with electronics.

Can I go to a private shop and not lose my warranty?

There used to be something called business link where I

could drive in, drop the truck off, and they'd have

another company to meet.

Before we run out of time here, are you talking

about maintenance just doing oil changes and regular

maintenance?

I'm talking about technical service.

No, they will not pay for the warranty unless

you're at an authorized Stellantis dealer.

You can get all your maintenance done.

All the routine maintenance can be done anywhere you

want to, just keep good records.
