Well, we sure do appreciate you being with us today on this final hour of the CarPro Show for this week.
And if you missed any of the other hours, there's three total that we do on the national show here, two in Dallas before that.
But if you want to join us for the other hours besides this one, the podcast will be up this afternoon at about 2.30 Central Time.
And you can join all three hours and catch up and stay up. And if you want to stay up with us during the week, there's an easy way to do that.
And that's on our Facebook page. And that is Facebook at CarPro.com. You can up at the top. No, it's at the bottom now, isn't it?
Yes, it is. Yes.
There's Facebook logo. Click there and give us a like and you can follow along with us all during the week as we have fun with people.
And then our newsletter that comes out every Friday. That's at the bottom of the page at CarPro.com.
You can click there and put your email address in. You'll get yesterday's in your inbox immediately.
And you'll see my review of the 2026 Hyundai Palisade calligraphy.
Woof.
I got you on that one, didn't I?
Oh, man. I am. Jones in for that vehicle.
Oh, it's pretty.
And that was the other because we were considering either the Telluride or the Palisade and just went with the Telluride because it was sporty and blah, blah, blah.
And I love the vehicle. But man, I got to tell you, they've really upped their game on this calligraphy version, this trim level.
And I'm I wish I weren't in the middle of a car situation where I could jump and do it because it's great.
And you know, you got to think that the Telluride, a redo of the Telluride because it's now five years old.
You got to think that's coming quick.
You got to think I haven't seen anything on it.
I was at the dealership having, you know, just an oil change and ask them, you know, when is the hybrid coming out for the Telluride?
They won't tell us, but they say that it might be in the next version, like the 26.
But again, you know, it's anybody's guess because nothing official has been announced.
Well, we know for a fact it's coming in the Palisade.
Yes, for sure.
Very, very soon, which I'm really liking that should be October, November, somewhere in there.
Certainly by the end of the year, you'll see a hybrid version.
And they took a page right out of Toyotas Playbook because this hybrid not only gets better fuel economy and the fuel economy on the one that I reviewed wasn't bad.
It was actually pretty good.
But the next one has better fuel economy and the hybrid has more horsepower.
I love that.
I do, too.
Yeah.
Because this thing, I mean, I don't make a secret of the fact that I got a heavy foot.
And this thing was, I wouldn't go so far as to say it was underpowered, but I could have used another 20 or 30 horses.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And put it to use.
Especially if you get, if you have more horsepower and get better fuel economy, sign me up for that.
What's not to like about that?
Yeah.
It's a sport mode all the time.
I tell you, especially if I'm trying to maneuver the traffic and everything.
And it's great to have that, but I would love just a little more burst in the regular mode.
Yes.
That's me.
I would, too.
All right.
We got a line open.
If you want to grab it.
Here's the number.
800-926-7777-8926-7777.
If you missed that one, stand by until somebody hangs up or we go to a break.
And you can grab one at that point and we'll be taking your calls all through this hour.
CarPro.com is the website if you want to take a look there.
And let's go to Richmond, Texas in the Houston area and talk to Richard.
Richard, how could I help you, sir?
Hello, Jerry.
Thanks for taking my call.
Hello, buddy.
You bet.
My pleasure.
I'm a long time blister and a long time mechanic.
And I think that's working against me here.
I've got a 2014 Honda CR-V.
It's got 115,000 miles on it.
I just found out yesterday that I'm going to have to put about $6,000 into this thing
for brakes and a steering rack and tires and battery and all that stuff.
I'm just wondering, is it worth me fixing this thing or should I try to get something
different and start over again?
Are those the price that you got on that stuff that needs to be done?
Are those dealership prices?
No, those are independent shop.
Really?
Yeah.
Boy, I keep hearing these stories and how things have gone up as far as we're
paying.
I worked in the automotive business since I was 16 years old and I'm 70 now.
And I've worked every phase of it and I know exactly what goes on.
Yeah.
And I don't trust any of them.
And I imagine the labor rates, what, 150 now?
Yes.
Exactly.
Even at an independent?
Here's the thing.
Independent.
Richard, here's the thing.
If you do put the money into it, you're probably going to be able to double the mileage
that you have because it's haunted.
And when you get out and start looking at new car prices, that $6,000 is going to look pretty good.
Now, the other side of the coin is vehicles are better today than they were 12 years ago.
They've got more safety features.
They've got more comfort features.
So, for me, the decision would come down to, you know, are you tired of the 2014?
Or is it, is a vehicle to you just transportation?
And if that's the case, that's probably a good spend of $6,000.
Well, it is, it is our primary transportation.
And we have, we've been putting a lot of miles on it.
We'll be driving the San Antonio back quite a few times now.
And that's, I mean, if I knew I could get 200,000 out of it, I'd put 6,000 at no time.
No, no time.
But there's no guarantee of that.
No, there's not.
But the odds are in your favor.
On the engine and transmission.
And that's your two biggest expenses, as you know, from being a mechanic.
That's the two biggest things.
And the odds are really, really good that you're going to get 200,000 out of the two major components.
And so I'd put those things into your thought processes, talk about the increased safety.
You know, if it's about the right size for you,
there's some good choices out there.
Another CRV, the RAV4.
I love the Subaru Crosstrek.
And that thing is turning out to be an incredibly reliable SUV.
You know, it's a good one.
The Ford Escape has been a good one.
The Chevy Equinox is one of my very favorites.
It's been amazing.
And I love it.
And I got good dealers for all of them down there in the Houston area.
So take a look around.
Don't just go buy what a friend tells you.
Get expert advice on your next vehicle from the CarPro Jerry Reynolds.
You are listening to the CarPro show with Jerry Reynolds, the CarPro.
With the marketplace sort of like speaking pretty loudly about, you know,
the electric vehicles and going deep into research and development
and all that kind of a thing.
Definitely makes you wonder about Ford's decision that was talked about
in the news section of the newsletter this week of making a $5 billion bet
on electric vehicles.
So what is your take and why do you think that probably is the deal?
I think they probably started down this road
and got too far to turn back.
So they had to go ahead and follow through.
And make the best of it.
And just hope that it's a good investment.
It's just a good bet.
I mean, it's just flipping the coin really, right?
Yeah, I don't know that the odds are that good because that's 50-50.
If you look at the market, now they may be smarter than me
and they may be looking down the road further.
But from what I've seen so far, and I like electric cars,
we know I like them.
You have one.
I have one.
I pay for one out of my own pocket.
Right.
And I love it.
But it's not for everybody.
Yeah.
And I think there'll always be a piece of the market,
but I think there'll be a small piece
and I think it'll be a dwindling piece of the market.
In other words, we're seeing good electric car sales right now
because there's a rush to beat the $7,500 from the federal government
that's going away.
Yeah.
So a lot of people who were on the fence are making the decision
and a lot of them are deciding, yeah, I'm going to go electric.
Some of them are saying, nope, I'm not going to go electric.
And that's fine.
But it's resulting in a good number of sales right now.
Now, September 30th, when the $7,500 from the government is gone,
I think it's over.
I think the repeat customers may not be repeating
because of the incentive is gone.
Well, and a lot of people look at the number of used Teslas
on the market on any given day.
Yeah.
And you'll see that there are a lot of them out there
and those are people who got caught up in the emotion of an electric.
The $7,500, $4,000 are used certainly is a factor.
Yeah.
I've been telling people about a website that I found many years ago
that was all used Teslas.
And I don't know who owns or maintains this website at all.
But right now, if you go to the website, which is ev-cpo.com,
you're going to find 1,390 used Teslas for sale.
Wow.
Looking right at it.
You're right.
Exactly right.
You know, I got to think Elon Musk probably has something to do
with this website.
I don't know for sure.
But you look at what people paid for him new
and you look at what they're bringing to the auction right now.
Particularly, look at the Cybertruck.
Right.
This thing is so dead in the water.
Yeah.
I mean, so dead in the water.
Drops a ton of value.
I mean, just immediately.
They're so cheap compared to what they were new.
Wow.
And that's, but it's not just Tesla.
It's all of them.
I mean, price of one-year-old Lucid that was $150,000.
Look at a Mercedes EQS, you know,
that was $150,000 that you can buy today for, I don't know, 60.
A year old with under 5,000 miles.
Same with the Rivian too?
Yeah.
Same with the Rivian.
Even though Rivian seems to have held their,
its value a little bit better than the others.
But you know, I think the deal right now,
if you do want an electric, is to lease,
don't buy one, lease it.
If you are in a position of having cash on hand,
do a prepaid lease for three years.
You can save some serious money on those.
So you pay one payment upfront
and you're done making payments for three years.
Certainly before the end of September though.
Oh yeah.
Because when you look at a lease at $7,500,
makes a huge difference in the payment.
Oh yeah.
Not so much on a 72 or 84 month purchase,
but on a lease, it is a huge, huge difference.
That's a good advice right there.
All right.
Phone number.
I got a line right now if you want to grab it,

And Robert in Fort Worth, Texas.
Welcome.
Hi Robert.
What can I do for you?
Hey, how are you?
Hey, good buddy.
What's going on?
Hey, I'm driving a 2024 Chevy Equinox
and I really do like it.
This is like the fourth or fifth one my wife and I have had.
Yeah.
But she's telling me I need to get a pickup truck.
So I have a 2010 Ranger that, you know,
if Ford was to make one like that again,
but not, you know, maybe a little bit bigger,
I'd jump all over it.
So close.
We got now it's a Maverick.
I don't believe Chevy's putting anything out in their future
that goes along with that.
I'm just trying to get your take on the Maverick
and what dealer you would recommend here.
I think you're going to say, uh,
Sandpac five star Ford.
I want to make sure I know exactly who I need to talk to
there.
I know you reviewed the Maverick in the 2024,
but what know what you think as far as, you know,
long road trips, driving it, things like that.
I was really surprised, Robert,
how pleasant that was.
And for me, I'd certainly get the hybrid.
Um, I, you know, the mileage,
you're going to get 40 plus miles to the gallon.
If you drive it right.
And it's, it's really quiet inside,
which Ford does a really good job with
in all the vehicles.
Right.
It's, it's, it rides good, good to see out of.
It's a joy and to get one, you know,
at around 30 grand or so, even with the hybrid.
It's, I mean, I don't think there's anything out there
that's even close to it.
I mean, the Hyundai Santa Cruz is a very nice truck,
but it's 10 grand more.
And I can't make the case for it.
Yeah, I don't like it.
I don't like it.
I looked at him.
I don't like it.
I don't like neither.
Now I would tell you on the, go ahead.
The Ranger I reviewed it last year.
And, and I was impressed with it too.
It's just gotten pretty big.
Yeah, exactly.
I don't, I don't need a big old pickup truck.
Okay.
Then let's get you over to five stars.
I'm not wearing the cowboy hat or anything.
Yeah, go ahead.
Let's get you over to five star in North Richland Hills.
I want you to ask for Joshua Fichter.
F-I-C-H-T-E-R.
He's the GM.
He's a dear friend of mine for 20 years.
Tell him I sent you.

Good time to call in, especially with
about the end of the month coming up.
A holiday weekend on the way.
Yeah, buddy.
Incentives are changing right now and
they're not going to stay the same,
especially the EV incentives.
So, a perfect time to kind of figure out
you with that tell me what you're thinking about doing and I'll tell you
if I think that's a good idea maybe they maybe I got a different idea you might
say no you need to sit sit on what you've got you're fine no many a time
yes you have said especially to me I'm not your wife but it's warranted I
could I can promise you eight hundred nine to six seventy seven seventy seven and
Tim in Houston is next hello Tim well hello gentlemen thank you for taking my
call I really enjoy listening to your show thank you sir I'll try to keep this
short I'm seventy years old and I've got two personal vehicles one's a little
Jaguar 2014 which I bought new and I love it it's it's a thrill to drive and I
also have a 2013 avalanche with a hundred and sixty thousand miles and it sits for
about six six months a year and then I get in it and drive at 600 miles and where
I'm at is I'm sort of torn as to whether I should get rid of them both and by
myself a new pickup truck and be done with old cars I'm just there's a
reliability issue and a few other things that that I'm just you know I'm in a
quadriest to how to proceed what wouldn't you love to be able to go get a brand new
avalanche yes I would now I'm a little tall and I would actually prefer something
larger but I will tell you that's about as reliable a pickup truck as I've ever
they were awesome I if Chevrolet had priced them correctly instead of you know
$55,000 ten years ago which was completely out of the market wow that it
would still be around and it was very reminiscent I had the Silverado electric
truck and it was very reminiscent of the avalanche for me it's I've seen that
television yeah it's got the Midgate the whole deal and it was a fantastic but you
know I hear I hear where you come from I think you have legitimate concern with
the Jag given their history and I've owned a lot of Jags through the years
Tim and well it's gonna I will tell you it's a thrill yeah I hate to get rid
I know but I think parts are gonna become a problem for you real quick if they
haven't already and the direction Jags go and good God talk about a car company
that just did everything did everything wrong I mean it's crazy what they've
done and I hate that but I worry about the parts and I worry about the
reliability as you go forward it's not gonna be worth a lot of money so I
would drive it until you have a major high dollar repair and then just be done
with it the truck I know I know that's not what you want to hear right but I
think that's reality putting a bunch of money into it doesn't make sense to me
the truck I think there's life left in it they were just that good and and
so you know when when it goes same kind of a deal you know if you start to have
major problems with it or you see a series of small problems that probably
are gonna lead up to a big problem didn't make a trade and that should you
know I don't think you got to do anything today with either one of them
but I'd be thinking about it well and I very much appreciate that that's kind
of where I'm at just didn't you know your commentary relative to parts for the
Jag I think it's spot on I think that's gonna be an issue and like to avoid it
if I can yeah it's it's it's stressful to have a car that you really like and
you can't get parts and I hear from people all the time that that happens to
you know they try to get go to salvage yards and that seldom works out
probably not gonna do that not nothing not something I could recommend I
appreciate your time buddy and thank you so much for listening to the show that's
very kind of you and we go to Rome Georgia and talk to Matthew hello Matthew
how could I help you sir hey thanks for taking my call I'm big fan of your
show I talked to you before about a year ago it seems like well good to have
got shot oh yeah it's kind of funny they fixed it and luckily I have an insurance
company that's with my my bank that took care of it so they covered it a year
later the fan tower went out think that's the choice but I mean what I
really wanted to talk about is me my wife found what we think is like a
diamond in the rust it was a mini Cooper countryman yeah all four s model this
six-speed manual yeah that's rare we jumped what the reason we jumped on it
because it was only a one-car owner and they bought it auction and they sent it
to Atlanta and it's under a hundred thousand miles like ninety four thousand
miles and wondering if you heard any bad things about it my niece who's a
mechanic she kind of rolled her eyes so I told her what we got yeah but she's in
California because the cali converters on that thing is a real problem and I
was just wondering what you thought about that and it's I mean plenty of
room oh yeah yeah they're they're cool it's the biggest mini ever made you
don't feel as cramped up in this one as you do most mini Cooper's and they drive
good I've reviewed a number of them you know it I never minded the countryman
because you did you felt pretty safe in it now some of the other minis that I
reviewed when you get on a Dallas freeway doing 65 70 miles an hour and
you got 18 wheeler on each side of you and you start to wonder can they
see you then I I you'll suck some vinyl up you know it's scary but the
countryman always felt better with now let me just warn you they are at about
this time in a hundred thousand miles plus they start to become a bit of a
problem and it's not gonna be a major it's not gonna be a major problem
but it's probably gonna be a lot of little problems and the next issue is they
are expensive to work on it's as expensive to work on as a BMW and and so
for those reasons I would tell you to be cautious with it make sure that you
do the maintenance as you're supposed to this is a car I would tell you
although it's fun to drive I would sort of baby it and not not hit it
not you know dogged hit the accelerator hard and do fast stops and starts and
that sort of thing just drive it normal and you probably got some time left it's
gonna cost you though it's gonna cost you some money and as long as you know
that and plan for it you should be fine good to talk to you again it's easy
to get the definitive car buying or leasing advice absolutely free free
call the car pro show at 1-800-926-7777
and you're listening to the car pro show it's Jerry Reynolds the car pro and me
Todd Chambliss mark and San Antonio you are next on the car pro show hello mark
hi Jerry thanks for taking my call it's a pleasure sir quick questions you bet my
wife has a infinity 2018 I think it's called reds the red sport I mean it
gets up and it goes oh yeah and and she it's got 64,000 miles on it gonna need
some major work brakes tires etc and so we were thinking about trading it in and
she just was looking briefly at the Porsche making one because we have
grandkids it'd be easier to put grandkids in and but I was wondering your thoughts
on that particular making model and and maintenance and value and things like
that okay now I don't want you to embarrass yourself so let's let's let's
get the name right it's mccon there you go okay mccon I had one in fact I had a
cayenne and a mccon at the same time I was doing a subscription deal and Dallas
Fort Worth was one of my dealers where you could trade cars you pay a flat
monthly fee and you could trade cars anytime you wanted to which I loved
unfortunately they kept losing money on the program so they did away with it but
I owned a cayenne turbo and then I use I had a mccon as my subscription car now
I had it for a couple of months the one that I had was a two liter turbo and that
would not have been the one if I were buying one or leasing one that would
have not been the engine that I would have preferred I'd want the 2.9 liter
six-cylinder gotcha and if she's got if she's used to that Q50 red sport she's
used to really good horsepower and and and so that 2.9 is going to be where
she's going to want to go it's got twin turbos the vehicle itself is very
very enjoyable the only difference between it and the cayenne that I had there
wasn't there wasn't quite as much backseat room but the front compartment for
the driver and the passenger front passenger was very good and it got better
fuel economy so I think she would love it you know that I never ran into
Porsche is one of the best SUVs you can buy from the standpoint of low amount of
problems I had one problem with and I kept I kept that cayenne my wife drove
it I kept that cayenne longer enough kept any vehicle in 20 years and it was
because it was so good I had one issue and it was a tire pressure monitor
tire yeah tire pressure monitoring system sensor that went bad that was it and
Porsche Porsche like anything you know as far as a Mercedes or an Audi or a BMW
Porsche is right there now the good news is there are places around and I'm sure
San Antonio has one or two that that specializing European cars once the
warranty goes out then I would try not to go to a dealership for repairs I'd go to
an independent saves money and and that's what I did after it was and the
thing comes with a four year 48,000 mile warranty so you're gonna be warranty
good long while but then after that and just for routine maintenance oil changes
and that sort of thing I'd use an independent and then you won't see it
won't be nearly as bad as a dealership unfortunately Mark I don't have a
Porsche dealer in San Antonio but I got a great one in DFW if you don't have
any luck go to my website put in Dallas Fort Worth and Porsche and you'll
pull up Avondale Porsche and they are awesome they'll even deliver for you I
appreciate the call if you want to feel really confident about the next vehicle
you buy or lease call Jerry Reynolds the car pro first 1-800-926-7777
and meets this week's a newsletter there is a new section of a car I thought
really caught my eye I wanted to sort of get your take on a Cadillac apparently
and you you're saying the fist is gonna be built this particular concept car
I believe it is that Cadillac is coming out with called the elevated
velocity it's a V series that they've made into an on or off-road EV yeah
correct okay so this thing has the the DeLorean kind of door the what you call
the the Gullwing is that right Gullwing doors which I'd never heard that term
before but I learned something new with that oh yeah they're cool and it's
got obviously high performance and another thing I thought was really cool is
the elements to fi on the exterior which it's it's made for off-road so of
course you're gonna be in dust and sand and dirt and all that but it keeps the
exterior clean via a dust phobic vibration what in the world and space
world is that I don't know but it's a good looking car and I had one of our
Cadillac dealers that's part of the show that I've known for many years has
actually seen this car so it's actually being tested out there then yeah I'm
built okay but now and he says it's gonna come you know anytime there's a concept
something can happen at the last minute to kill the project I've seen that a
hundred times yeah but something tells me this one is probably going they
gone further with this one then many many of the concepts that I've seen through
the years yeah so if it's so oh this yeah what would I review this one in a
heartbeat of course you'll come on how many tickets you think you get with
this thing pretty pretty we think I somewhere in the low 200 yeah I would
think at least it's not more beautiful and they won't build a lot of them
no God it'd be good to have one oh my gosh your body at work that thinks he knows
cars doesn't the car pro Jerry Reynolds does call 1-800-926-7777 this
