change the world. I can't change what goes on inside car dealerships. But I can change what goes on

some things. But when it comes time to buy a car or lease a car, one of the perks of being with

a large company that buys a lot of cars. They go into the dealership, let's say they buy

500 cars a year for their company. Well, everybody's going to pay attention to them when

they walk in the door. Oh, yeah. You're part of a group that at any given one of my dealers,

probably about that same size, 500 or more people, part of the car pro show that buy.

And the dealer doesn't want to lose my endorsement. Right. Right. And he doesn't

want to lose that stream of people walking in the door. So they roll out the red carpet. They give

you the best price. They look at it as incremental business because a lot of people do drive out

of their areas to get the car pro deal. Right. And certainly come back for repeat business too.

Yeah. As of course, I'm living proof of that. Yes, you are. How about we go to

Well, Merry Christmas. And Merry Christmas to you, sir. I'm hoping to be one of your happy

listeners in the near future. We're thinking about a Toyota Tacoma Limited. My wife doesn't

want to drive the old 95 Silverado I've got. Yeah. I'm not so sure I blame her anymore.

And the Tacoma Limited ticks off all the boxes we'd like on the truck.

And I'm wondering, since there doesn't seem to be much inventory out there, we've got to have to

order one. And is that going to make it hard to get a good deal on that or any kind of

Another half is hybrid versus non. Okay. I'll tell you, Toyota does

a great job as far as replenishing inventory. So they don't want their dealers to be overloaded

in inventory. They want to replace what they sell quickly. And it's a brilliant strategy.

And somehow or another, they've been the only car company out there that's figured it out

that this this works well. Now, what happens in I'm going to say now 80% of the time is people

go into a dealership, Toyota or Lexus, either one, and they put their name on something that's

coming into inventory. Odds are you're not going to find what you want. But odds are also great

that they've got exactly what you want or something real close coming in within a week or two.

Sometimes it's the next day. So the problem with their system

is that the websites can't keep up. Toyota controls the websites of every one of their dealerships.

And the vehicles come and go quicker than they keep up with the websites. So in one side,

they do a great job. On another side, they do a horrible job, which is keeping up with the

websites. So you can't look at any dealer's website and say, Oh, they don't have what I want.

But they may well have what you want came in a couple of days ago. It's just not on the website.

Or they could say you could say, Hey,

they've got exactly the vehicle I want. And when you get there was sold three days ago,

but it's not off the website yet. Does that make sense?

Yeah, yeah, that does that does make sense. And you have to communicate. You have to

communicate by phone or email to know what a Toyota dealer's got and what they've got coming in.

Now, if I'm looking at any Toyota or any Lexus that's made, and I have the choice of hybrid or

no hybrid, I'm getting the hybrid every time, particularly in trucks and SUVs, because not

only do you get better fuel economy, you get more power as well. Toyota figured out how to

bring both those things together and give you more horses and better fuel economy and reliability.

And the new section of the newsletter that was dropped on Friday morning,

there's an update on the electric postal van situation. If you remember back in the day,

some time ago, some $3 billion of taxpayer money was appropriated to spend on what they

termed around I think 7,000 or so, like a whole bunch of these EV postal vans.

And so far, I guess the update is that I guess back in July, you reported only 250

had actually been produced today. That's right. Fewer than 100 delivered and in service. So

the update today as of here near middle of December, 612 have been actually produced and

some portion of that delivered. So Jerry started doing the math on, excuse me, how much per van

we're talking. If you have $3 billion divide by 612, the math turns out to be just under

5 million per van. What a bargain. Heck of a deal. $4.9 million per van. If you do the

pencil to paper, an immense waste of money. I didn't know how many zeros were in three

billion until I actually started typing it out. I had to ask Siri. That's how dumb I am.

Didn't know. Let's talk to Rory in Magnolia, Texas. Rory, welcome. Hey, hey there.

I'm most excellent and catching you. I have a 2018 Ram 2500 with a 6.2 gasoline 4x4

almost two years ago. I got a recall notice for attraction control in ABS. I've been to the dealership

where I bought it four times and they've told me every time they don't have a solution for the

problem yet. The last time I went in a few weeks ago, they said they would sell me the parts

to fix it, but they would not do it themselves. This is a recall. It's not a warranty issue.

Why did they say they wouldn't do it?

They demanded that we won't do it. We'll sell you the parts, but we will not work on it. I'm

thinking if I buy it, why would I have to buy the parts from the dealership on a recall

and take it somewhere else because then I probably will void them.

You shouldn't have to. I got a letter from Chrysler. I emailed the Chrysler people on the

e-mail and never heard anything back. It's my traction control and ABS light comes on and goes

off, comes on and goes off, and now it's been almost two years. You need to just start over,

take it to another dealership, another Stellantis dealership. Don't tell them anything about the

past. Keep that to yourself and just go in and say, hey, I've got a recall on this truck.

See if you got the parts to fix it, and if so, I'll let you fix it. It should be that simple.

Okay. That's why I thought it would be my best interest to take it to the people I bought it

from, but I will venture further out. Yeah. I mean, just because you bought it from them,

don't mean they've got a good service department, and obviously these people don't.

Exactly. All right. I appreciate it. I've tried reaching you before. I'm most satisfied with your

show. Excellent program, and I will reach out to another Chrysler dealer. Yeah. I've got some

good ones at my website, and when I put a dealer, when I approve a dealer to be on the show,

I don't just look at the sales side. I look at the service side as well.

So I don't go as in-depth about service, but I want to see their factory ratings.

I don't want to see what a website says. I want to know what the factory says about their service

satisfaction because anybody can sell a car, but it takes somebody's extra effort to do a good

job in service. And I've said it a thousand times, but the sales side sells the first car,

but service sells the rest of them. If people get a good, you're going to find another dealer.

If they do a good job. I'm in the service industry, and my answer is always yes, sir.

Yeah. And if the dealer that fixes your recall does a good job, you'll probably go back there to buy.

Down the road. There you go. All right. I will get immediately on your website and do some research.

I, all the years that I was in the car business on end dealerships, I was,

I couldn't put enough emphasis on making sure people were happy with the service, you know?

For recall to sell them parts and make them repair it.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I've never heard that either.

I hope there's not more to the story, but if it's exactly the way he presented it,

he needs to get the hell out of that dealership. Find another one. Oh man.

Yeah, I appreciate you taking my call. So just kind of wanted to bounce some things off you.

I'm on my second Chevy Blazer. I really love it. Driving the Chevy RS Blazer 2024.

My problem is I got pretty high miles because of work. I got 80,000 miles in two years,

and it's my second Blazer. So I was wanting to trade it in,

probably just step into another one, but I really don't want to take out another $150

a month car payment. So I'm thinking about going down to an Equinox. I really like what

they did with it. Me too. I wanted your thoughts on what the difference would be.

Obviously, the engine size is one thing, which I drive a lot on the highway,

so I feel like that turbo engine will get me what I need. It will. Interiors are nice.

Yep. And unless cargo space is a restriction for you, I think you probably should have traded

down to the Equinox last time. And I haven't had for review the gasoline version of it in a couple

of years. I've had two electric Equinoxes in a row. So I can tell you the last one I had,

even with my heavy foot, I thought it had plenty of power, and I was beside myself happy

with the fuel economy. But the features, you've got a lot of features on the Equinox that you're used

to already with the Blazer. They're similar in some ways. Yeah, I've driven one a couple times

and I really like it. I do too. I recommend it all the time. I have helped thousands of people

get into them. Without fail, they all love it. It's a great choice. And you're smart to get rid

of that Blazer now because it's still got good value. And if you go over 100,000 miles, it's

going to hurt the value. So try one of my dealers. I've got five really good Chevy dealers in Houston.

Welcome back to The Car Pro Show with Jerry Reynolds, The Car Pro, and me, Todd Chambliss,

in the newsletter. In the news section, one article there that got a lot of attention

this week, which car brands are Americans talking about the most? And if you go by

other lists, you might say, well, maybe it's Toyota, maybe it's Ford. No, this is a study

from Pulse with P-U-L-S-Z, sort of a stylized spelling there. And they analyzed data from Reddit.

Now that's of course, the online community, people get to go and give their unfiltered

opinions. And so on the top five, would you believe that Ford is fifth? And that's the

first, I mean, the other four positions are not Ford. They're not Toyota. They're not Chevrolet.

There are some real dumb people on Reddit. I don't know how to put it any

more gentle than that. That's pretty gentle. That's reality. You're pulling punches there,

aren't you? Yeah, I am. Next Friday, I'll tell you what, Hagerty, who I'm a big fan of,

Hagerty Insurance. Okay. They're great. They do classic car insurance. Oh, okay. I didn't know

the connections. They put out a list every year of which classic cars will increase in value next

year. That's good to know. There's 10 of those there. I'll tell you about some distressed new

2024 vehicles. Distressed new? Yes. They got to be sold and they are, there are some bargains

out there. Yeah. So I'll give you a list of those cars. If you, you know, if you don't really care

what you drive, you just want the best deal and be a way to go. That is absolutely the way to go.

The triple A travel forecast for the holidays. That's good to know too. More quick, quick shifts

and my car pro advice column. Okay. Getting your car ready to trade in.

Important stuff to know. A lot of that going on right now. If you want to

maximize what you get for your trade in, I'll tell you how to do that. That's smart to do.

my call. You bet. What can I help you with? I got a, well, I got a couple things. I was

actually gifted by one of my customers. 1961 Corvair truck. Oh, wow. Yeah. It's pretty cool.

Oh, yeah. Long time customer. Yeah. And, and she had passed away and her niece said that she had

something for me and I went over there and I couldn't even believe it. It was amazing.

That is great. But yeah, it's pretty cool. It's a pretty cool looking vehicle. That's for

sure. The only problem is, is that it's been sitting in the garage for 25 years. Yep.

So needs a little work. I mean, it's the body and everything's in great shape.

The motor's been sitting in it, you know, like said for 25 years and

and I know there's a lot of technicians out there, you know, everything's all

computerized nowadays, but is any tech pretty much okay to move forward to try to work on this

thing? No, no, I, I, I, if you're going to try to do it right, I'd find a place that does

restorations of automobiles. Okay. They'll have an old school mechanic that knows how

to work on that thing. And there's certain things you're going to have to do. You,

I mean, obviously the oil needs to be changed, but you know, the gas tank needs to be dropped

and cleaned. Yep. And all the, all the, all the lines, all the gas lines need to be replaced.

The belts are going to need to be replaced. I mean, yeah, it, it's not, it's not as easy as it sounds.

So a restoration place and you can Google it and you'll find plenty of restoration

place, knows, knows exactly what to do. And then after they, after they do it, odds are replace the

battery, hit the starter and it'll probably crank right up. Excellent. Excellent. One other quick

question. I got a 2020 Ford Transit 112,000 miles on it. I just had to replace the transmission

and I'm looking to get another van, but I'm a little worried about getting another Ford,

only because I mean, it's only got 112,000 miles, 13,000 to fix it. I really think that,

that was a fluke. Typically they last longer than that by far. You know, and I don't,

I look, these vans are not high on my radar screen, but I do have a good number of companies

that I help get these vans. I got a dealer in Dallas that sells more transit vans and any,

any dealership in the country. And many of those are my listeners. I, I, from what people tell me

still the transits, the best van out there for longevity as long as you don't overload them.

That seems to be a problem, but otherwise they seem to be really good. I would,

I'd tell you to give another one a try if you're going to trade that one.

And I think you'll have better luck with the next one.

Is the boost better than the regular?

The, I'm sorry, say it again.

You know, the eco boost, is that better? Oh, yeah. The eco boost is awesome. I mean,

they've been using that engine and pickup since 2011. It's been a, it's been a real

workhorse. So if I had a choice, absolutely I'd go with the eco boost.

Eco, okay. And they got a lot of power with them. Oh yeah. Are you in Northern or Southern

California? I'm in Northern California. Okay. Elk Grove Ford in the Elk Grove,

Hi, how are you doing today? Merry Christmas to you. Thank you, buddy.

Hey, I'm currently driving a 2012 Honda Core DXL with 175,000. Looking at buying a,

an SUV, a hybrid Honda SUV. And what, want to get your thoughts on that or something

else I should consider besides that one? No, I don't think there is. And I'm,

they're gaining my confidence Honda is with their hybrid system every single day.

I was leery for a little while because the very first time they tried the hybrid,

it was horrible and it was a miserable failure. So I've been leery, but they've been back out

since 2018 now. And I'll tell you, I'm, they seem to be doing really well for a long,

long time. I would have told you only look at a RAV4 hybrid because they've been around

25 years and there's a lot of history there and they're great. But, you know, now Honda's

really, I'm seeing them now well over 150,000 miles. The hybrid battery is still good. The

powertrain is still good. The vehicle itself, it's a Honda, you know, you get what you pay for.

So, you know, you've got a high mileage Honda. So I don't have any problem

with recommending a CR-V hybrid. Is the RAV4 still the safest bet? Yeah, probably. But,

well, will you get another 175 out of this CR-V hybrid? I think so. I do. I've got five really

good Honda dealers at my website. If you want to get a deal on one, you need to contact them

now because these things are selling like crazy. And if you're trying to get in on the incentives

Prius Nightshade that Amy did. And I did a review of the 2026 Nissan Kix,

which nobody gave a damn about. It's a little compact car that

some people might be in the market for. Well, not judging by the number of people that clicked on

it. That's right. Exactly. Oh, you had the kicks. Big deal. Who cares? Yeah. Let's talk to Kevin in

Bastrop, Texas, Central Texas. Kevin, welcome. How can I help you? Hey, Jerry Todd. Thank you

for taking my call. You bet. Merry Christmas, sir. So I was kind of wondering if you could

help me and my wife solve a little conundrum, I guess we've been having. Got a 2019 Ram 2500

four-wheel drive Laramie package. Nothing wrong with the truck at all. Runs great.

Like I said, it's got only 50,000 miles on it. And my plan is to keep it for another

eight years or so and just keep driving it and just pay it off. But then I listened to you

talk about the incentives that are going on right now and the 2026 models going up a tariffs and also

that, you know, new car prices never go down. Of course, we've seen that over the years as well.

And I was just wondering, is it maybe worth considering taking advantage of the situation

right now and trading to 2025? I don't think so. I don't think so. I think you keep what you

got. Is yours a gas or diesel? It's a diesel. Oh, good God. Yeah. Yeah, 50,000. Yeah, a ton of

life. 50,000 miles. What do you do? What do you use it for? Mainly towing, get an RV boat and live

out in the country. So hauling trackers and skid steers and stuff like that. As an everyday

driver, we have other vehicles, so it doesn't get driven much. I see absolutely no reason

to sink. Have you priced a three-quarter ton lately? Oh, yeah. Yeah, I have. And I've looked at the

2025 versus the price of 2026s and seen the price difference there. Oh, yeah. They took a

like this. They took another huge jump for 2026 and they were already high. I mean,

I had a GMC that I reviewed less than a month ago, 100 grand and three-quarter ton,

$100,000. Your truck is never going to go down in value now. You're past the depreciation.

It's free driving. It's a great engine. It's a great truck. I wouldn't do a thing.

All right. Well, that kind of puts the issue to rest. I mean, that's what my life wanted to do.

Did you? Did you? I guess my thought was if I wait till 10 years from now, if we know that

skyrocketed to $75,000, $80,000, $90,000, what's that going to look like 10 years from now?

I wish I could tell you. I wish I could tell you. But I think we're at a saturation point.

I don't think cars will go down. They never do. But the increases may be done. They may have stopped.

Well, I got a situation I wasn't expecting to be in. My vehicle was totaled in an accident. Yeah.

Sorry to hear that. Thank you very much. I'm okay though. I survived. That's all that matters.

That's what does. It was a RAP4 prime plug-in. And I got fond of the plug-in version. But I

want to upgrade a little bit now. And so I'm looking at a hybrid plug-in or maybe just a hybrid

and a more upscale. I looked at Lexus and their hybrid takes premium gas, which seems to defeat

the purpose of saving on the electric cost. You're paying quite a bit more for the gas,

especially in California. But you don't have to. You don't have to run premium gas in it.

It'll run just fine. It'll run just fine on regular, unleaded. Trust me. Alrighty.

Yeah. That's what the salesman was saying. But I didn't know if I believed that or not.

No. I've got an article on my FAQ page that I wrote just for this. And I promise you the car

will adjust itself to the octane. The reason that they say premium is it'll get better fuel

economy on premium, but it's slight. It's like 10%. And you're talking about a dollar-a-gallon

difference between regular and premium. You'll never make that back getting a 10% increase in

your fuel economy. So just run it on regular. You'll be fine. Okay. Great. And I also saw

that they have an electric, the RZ. Yeah, it's a car. It's great. It's SUV.
