if you've got somebody going to college or maybe a young driver, especially if you're

So one evening at about seven o'clock, I see a Jaguar, brand new Jaguar pull in.
That's a little unusual in a Ford dealership in itself.
So out of this Jaguar comes a beautiful lady.
I mean, this could have been you.
Yeah.
And I'm telling you, she was a show stopper.
So I go, I bust through my guys and I go, hey, fellas, I, this one's mine.
I'm getting a divorce, right?
So I'm shopping.
So I bust to get to the door first to open the door for her.
And I said, what could I do for you?
And she said, I'm looking for Jerry Reynolds.
And I said, that's me.
And she handed me that paper and said, you're served.
Wow.
That's, I went, that's just wrong.

And then a couple of weeks later, the lender on the first car calls her and says,
you're late on your payment.
Oh no, I traded that car in.
She gets to looking at her paperwork.
She didn't trade the car in.

Somebody is just horrible and wrong to do to someone.

Well, I come straight down 75.

Then five star Ford in, they're right.
They're actually in Dallas, but they're on the Plano border.
So if you're coming down 75 when you get to the George Bush Tollway, if
you go west, it's going to be just, no, I'm sorry, you're going to go east
from 75.
It's going to be like three exits up.
It's Independence Parkway.
They've got a great service department, beautiful dealership.
Everybody there, just top notch.
I'd call ahead and make an appointment just to be safe and let's see
when they can get you in, but that's, I recommend them a lot and
everybody's always happy.
I'm going to drive because I've had some little problems with the maintenance.
Is it at the dealership in Sherman that you're going to?
Yes.
I'm surprised.
They didn't even clean the cables.
They just put the Corobi cables back on the battery and I brought that
to their attention.
They went out and sprayed it and finally had them take everything off
and do it right.
It's just stuff like that.
Before you drive 60 miles into Dallas, Fort Worth and get in the traffic,

lot of cameras on there so that I have cameras in the front

Well, good to have you.
So, thank you.
Okay.
Here we are.
I have one kind of very general big question,
and then one specific.
I am not a car person.
For me, it's transportation.
I won't use bells and whistles.
I just, and I want something not so fancy
that I can't, like, go pick up soil
and pop it in the back seat.
You know, because I'm worried about the
leather upholstery or something.
Yeah.
The big, wide-open question is,
I have a 2008 Nissan Altima four-door sedan.
It is now leaking coolant and leaking oil,
and the cost-reparant is going to be
way more than what actually what the car has worked.
Sure.
Of course.
How many miles are on that one?
2,000.
I'm sorry.
106,000.
Okay.
So you're not an overly high mileage driver?
Oh, no.
I do.
Now that I'm retired, and I drove this car
when I was working, now that I'm retired,
I live in West Los Angeles.
I spend tons of time on the road,
but I don't go very far because
it's bad traffic.
Got it.
So I only do, like, I mean,
4,500, 4,600 miles a year.
So it's very, very low mileage now.
Life has really changed.
I need a car that, you know,
the year screener asked me if,
SUV or sedan, and I said sedan,
but I'm not necessarily, I mean,
I'm really wide open.
My things that are important to me
are to be able to hold five people
because I'm a driver and I have lots of friends
that don't drive anymore.
It has to have room for a collapsible wheelchair
in the back seat behind the driver's side,
which is for me.
And it has to ride high.
I have shrunk as I have aged
and now I can barely friggin'
see over the steering wheel.
So now riding high is important for me.
And the other one, you will laugh,
but I want a CD player.
Music's important to me and I listen to CDs.
I don't want, you know, streaming, I don't care about.
So riding high, holding five people,
being able to see over the steering wheel
and a CD player,
and not lots of cool accessories
that everybody else other than me really loves.
And my second, that's my big wide open category
and now that I was thinking about,
I was on a hold, I mean, maybe it's,
and I don't really, I would prefer even a smaller car
if I wasn't the person that had to drive my friends around.
So having a big car doesn't appeal to me,
but it's got to hold five people.
Second category is lease versus buy.
All right, that's it.
Really?
Had your list ready, didn't you?
I was expecting you to keep going.
All right.
You know, if you don't care about a SUV,
then I wouldn't spend the money on one.
If a sedan will do the job,
then I would stick with a sedan.
I like, I love the Toyota Crown.
It's a good size sedan.
It'll fit five people comfortably.
It's a little bigger than the Camry.
But the thing about the Crown is it sets up really nicely.
It sets up at SUV height.
And I've never seen a car that did that before.
And it was impactful to me because of how visible everything was.
But you threw me there with the cassette player.
Yeah, I know.
Well, except for CD's.
CD player.
CD player.
I'm sorry.
I misspoke.
No, that's okay.
We're really going back.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Because I had those too.
Yeah.
So Lexus still puts a CD player in their cars.
Oh, really?
Okay.
Yeah.
And if you were going to get a sedan,
I'd look at the ES 350 if you're going to look at a sedan.
I don't think that's going to set up the way you want it to.
So in that case, I'd move over to an SUV.
And see if the NX is large enough for you.
And if not, then go to the RX.
And it kind of depends on your budget.
I mean, some of these, some of these vehicles get real pricey.
The SUV's in particular.
But if you're, if you're held bent on a cassette,
a Lexus and a Subaru are about your only two choices now.
If you want a CD player.
Yeah.
And if you look at it.
Is it possible to get aftermarket CD players?
I mean, no, nothing.
Oh, yeah.
I'm sure it is.
I'm sure it is.
Yeah.
I haven't, I haven't checked that in a long time.
But if you had a Toyota Crown sedan and you had an
aftermarket CD player, that would probably be your best answer.
So drive that and see what you think.
Lease it.
You are the perfect lease candidate.

Well, as you have mentioned many, many times before,
the best time to buy a used car is probably January.
After the year-end stuff goes away, the incentives all start to die down.
And then all the dealers have the glut of cars that they have got to do something with.
And that kind of reflects in the IC car study that you talked about in the newsletter that came out Friday.
The best and worst times to buy a used car.
So obviously January the best time.
And a lot of the worst times or best or worst times have to do with either temperature or holidays.
Which is kind of funny.
And it goes against conventional wisdom.
You have to read the whole thing and get the whole story.
But the worst times to buy a used car, I would have thought would have been the best times.
Yeah.
And that's very, it's a very scientific study.
I'll bet.
So I know they're right, but my experience, at least in this part of the country is in January,
the auction traffic drops a lot.
Is that right?
Yeah.
I think it's because, you know, auctions are typically in buildings.
Yeah.
But the doors have to be open because of all the exhaust fumes.
Ah.
So it's still cold in there.
Do you have a problem?
Yeah.
It's still, and that wind comes whipping through there.
Yeah.
I froze my butt off many times at the auction.
Man, that's crazy.

I have a 23 Santa Fe hybrid.
Yeah.
Okay.
I was five flights in a parking lot and gone, you know, not a note, not a nothing.
And I didn't realize it.
And I cannot turn it into my insurance company because they're holding me by a string now.
So I want to know, is it better to get it fixed and trade it in, keep it like it is,
fix it and keep it like it is.
I've got, I've had, oh, two and a half years and I've got 16,000 miles on it.
Oh, Gail, I don't think you need to trade it.
You got a great vehicle there.
Santa Fe's been good.
The hybrid, their hybrid system is good.
You don't drive much.
You know, I think I would fix it, but you need to do some shopping around for insurance.
I mean, and what are you running into?
I mean, everybody's rates.
Everybody's rates have gone up the past couple of years.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
But if you're scared to make a claim, your insurance is not doing you any good whatsoever.
Well, I'm no longer with that company.
Okay.
I got away from them.
Okay.
So the company that you were with, how long ago did this wreck happen?
Last spring.
Last spring.
Okay.
So six months or so.
Yeah.
So the insurance company that you had then, why wouldn't you turn in a claim?
You could be talking about thousands of dollars of damage there.
Well, that I know.
I've had two estimates, one for over 7,000, one for over 5,000.
There you go.
So why don't you go back to that?
Who ever had your insurance six months ago and make a claim?
They still got to pay it.
I just, I feel like I'm making waves and insurance has a long memory.
Gail, you pay tremendous premiums for things that happen.
Yeah.
Like that.
Make the, make the claim.
Don't worry about what's going to happen in the future.
You may never have another wreck.
And what happens then?
You're out of pocket five, six, seven thousand dollars to fix your car that they should have
paid.
Don't let them get away with that.

And I'm like, these are the questions I don't know how to answer.
