I mean, it's true. It really is. No, it is true. I don't know if we're on KNX in

Los Angeles or if they're doing coverage of the situation in the Middle

know, so you could always... How do you handle... I don't know how to handle

this, because if I'm talking to people and we're preempted, they can't hear

me. Right. But I'm still talking to them. What's the deal?

Well, I mean, could there be some folks recording this and then saying,

we'll play it back later? And I'm like, just a situation that way. That way

you're still talking to them. It's just not going to be live. I guess you just

speak. Well, I'm also sure every week we have a ton of people join us at our

going on in the Middle East. Anytime our troops are in harm's way, potentially.

You know, I mean, there's a lot riding on this. Oh, a whole bunch. And just pray

that all of our men and women in our armed forces are safe and harm-free.

Yep, I love that. I do too. So, there you go. 809267777. It is the last day of

the month. And there are deals to be had out there. Trust me on that.

Dealerships just think differently at the end of the month. I mean, they've got

numbers that they're trying to hit. The only way they can hit those is sell

cars. They're going to move cars and they're going to make deals. And

sometimes you get better situations the very last day of the month. Well, the

truth is, and again, if you're fairly new to the show, you may not, I forget to

mention this from time to time, but I owned car dealerships for a lot of

years. Grew up in the business, started at 15 when I was a car washer. When I

started my dad, I didn't get my PhD, which a lot of the people that own

dealerships today did. You know what PhD stand for? I knew it had to have some

sort of thing it stood for. What does it stand for? Papa had a dealership. I

did not get my PhD. I love that. My dad was a truck driver. Yeah. So I had to do

it all myself, which I'm, I wouldn't take anything. I wouldn't take anything for

that experience. But, you know, there's just, it's different today and it's

different at the end of the month because you're not going to change a

dealership's financial situation on the end of them at on the last day of the

month. In other words, if you're going to make a profit, you're going to make it.

It's already made. If you're going to lose money, there ain't nothing that's

going to happen today that's going to change that. So you might as well move

cars. And that's the mindset of dealers on this day. Let's talk to Sharon and

she's in Friendswood, Texas, like our last lady caller was. How about that?

Sharon, welcome. How can I help you? Hi, we're looking to purchase a new SUV. We

currently have a Highlander, but we want one that has more that will fit like at

least six adults comfortably. And we've been kind of comparing the Grand

Highlander to the Palisade. And I'm just kind of wondering if you had any advice

one way or the other. Well, the Grand Highlander is a roomier, I think. Are

you are you going to get a hybrid or are you going to get just a regular gas

engine? We really hadn't decided on that yet. OK, if you go with hybrid, I will

always, at least for the near future, recommend the Toyota for that. They've

been doing it for 25 years. Lots of history that tells us that their hybrid

system is good to 250,000 miles. I can't say that with the Palisade. Now, it

may it may well be a 250,000 mile SUV, but we don't know. So for if you decide

to go with a hybrid, go with the Grand Highlander. If you decide not to go

with a hybrid, then I'd put them on pretty well equal ground. I think I do

think the Highlander's got more overall room inside. That's going to give you a

little bit more third row seat room. It's going to give you a little bit more

cargo area in the back behind the third row seat. So I love both those vehicles.

I've reviewed now the Highlander, the Grand Highlander, and I've also had the

new Palisade, which just came out fairly recently. And it's wonderful. The big

plus of the Palisade is that 10-year, 100,000 mile warranty. So I've got great

dealers in Houston sharing for both those. If you go to the website,

carpro.com, you can find them there. Look at both. Here's the good news. It doesn't

matter which one you pick. They're both great choices. The only caveat to that

that I would throw in is if you want the better fuel economy and you want a hybrid,

I would go with the Toyota. I appreciate the call, kiddo.

will be affected by all the car companies were selling your information. It was a big profit

center. So that that's part of the problem. When you do that, it's like, you know, seeing the

terms of conditions and is clicking. Yep, I accept and everything. And then you come back and say,

what have I just clicked on? And it's the same thing because now they have your permission to

go and share that information to insurance companies, other marketers and just cause all

kinds of problems. They know how you drive. Yes, trust me. Yep. So let's talk to Jeff in

Richland, Texas, I assume. Jeff, welcome.

Hello. Hi there. What can I do for you? Yeah, Toyota has that stout coming out

that they announced or that I've been seeing on YouTube and all that. And I'm just curious what

you think about it. I think it's going to compete with the Ford Maverick midsize truck or the smaller

truck that's going to be on a car platform. I'm just not sure. But I am curious about those.

Yeah, me too. But Jeff, you gotta listen to me when I tell you don't believe everything you read

or see online. Toyota has not yet confirmed that the stout is coming. We know that they are working

on a smaller truck than the Tacoma. I know that to be a fact. Right. Whether it'll be called

a stout or not, nobody knows. Nobody knows when it's coming. Nobody knows. And I'm telling you

the dealers, I've got a dealer here in Dallas, Fort Worth, that's one of the most connected

Toyota dealers in the country. I mean, they call him to ask him questions. He don't know

when it's coming, if it's coming. He doesn't have any idea how it's going to be priced.

That he does not know. And this is the biggie thing here. He doesn't know if it's going to be gas

or electric. Now, yeah, you can make the case that it would be a hybrid, which would be extremely

smart for Toyota. Yeah. And that's kind of like what I'm kind of leaning towards something like

that. For me, I would never go EV. But a hybrid is kind of sort of in the ballpark that I might do.

And they do a great job with hybrids. I mean, they're the best. But I mean, there's a lot

more questions than there is answers at this point. I get real irritated, get real irritated with

these places that jump on the Internet and present things as if they're factual when they,

in fact, are not factual. And all they're trying to do is get you to click because they've got

advertising on there. And the more clicks they get, the more money they make. And that just,

that makes me crazy. So, you know, I think there's bottom line is this. I think there's a small

truck coming from Toyota. I think you're dead on that it's going to be built to compete with the

Maverick with the Hyundai Santa Cruz. We know Ram has got a small truck coming. But the problem

for the manufacturers is how do they bring a small truck to market, keep it around that $30,000

mark like the Maverick is and make money with it? That's a tall order. And Toyota,

I mean, I still think to this day, they're the smartest car company in the world.

If they can figure it out, we'll see a small truck from them. But at this particular time,

there's nothing confirmed. What engine are they using in that Maverick?

They've got a hybrid and they've got a gas engine. It's the same cubic feet, same leaders,

but the hybrid system, that's the one that everybody's buying. And rightly so. That thing

gets a legit 40 miles to the gallon combined city and highway, which is amazing for any kind of

pickup. So, you know, I think Toyota will either try to better them by using the Prius

powertrain in that small truck, that speculation, or they'll go all electric. And who knows,

Toyota shied away from all electric, but now it appears that they're getting into all electrics.

So we'll have to see. If you bought a car you thought you'd love, but now you want to push

RX 350L a year ago, and the space is just horrible, but it drives good. I have a large family of

six and sometimes more than a lot comes around. Oh, yeah. It does not have a third row seat.

I mean, you can't use it. You can't use it. Right. So I'm looking for something. I've had a Honda,

I've had a Toyota. I like to change very often. I'm not leaning on any luxury, but something

in between that has more space on each side. I'm not sure there's anything left. Well,

I don't like here because the service is horrible. I've owned a car too, but I don't like the service.

Yeah. Have you looked at the Grand Highlander from Toyota?

No, I haven't. It's it's perfect. It's perfect for you. It is almost Lexus quality interior,

but it's got a nice roomy third row seat and even more important, it's got cargo area behind

the third row seat. So good car, good amount of cargo area. And if you put that third row seat down,

you can camp back there. I mean, it's huge. So go go look at a Grand Highlander at Freeman

Toyota, talk to Jerry Patterson and tell him I sent you. It's a wonderful SUV. It's a hybrid

and it's all wheel drive. Two things that I would want anyway if I were getting an SUV.

So he'll take good care of you on the price and they can you may have to get on a waiting list

for one, but he'll move you to the top of the list because you listen to my show.

Jerry Patterson worked for me for 15 years before he went to Freeman. He left when I sold

my dealership and he's been there ever since. So you're being good hands. That's your answer,

buddy. I have no doubt about that. If you've loved that RX, you'll love the Grand Highlander.

I'm Todd Chambliss in this week's newsletter. This is hopefully something that this show

is helping to turn the tide on and that is to prove that in the advice column that you wrote

this week, the showroom isn't a battlefield. It's not. You don't have to go in there and just

be on guard and worry about, oh, they're just going to do something terrible here and I have

to worry about every step. That is if you go to one of your dealers that you have vetted and you

hold accountable and and as part of the car pro network, women especially are now able to go and

they can research and walk in with more confidence when they pick the right place to go to that's

that's the key to everything. It really is. It is going to the right place, cutting through the

clutter and that's what I set out to do 24 years ago so far. Make it easy. It's working out great

for the folks who would get all these happy listener comments from. They love the, I mean,

I've used it too numerous times. I got to tell you if you know what you're shopping for and you've

already done a little bit of research, it is a breeze. You're not there all day long and you

don't have to worry about, you know, being on guard and worrying about whether you're going

to get a terrible deal or not. That's right. Look, buying a car should be fun. This is,

this is a big decision and it should be one that you look forward to and fortunately everybody

dreads it and look, I'll be the first to say car dealers have caused that.

But not all of them are that way and that's, I think I have a very good talent for knowing the

good ones from the bad ones and that's because I did it for so long. I can spot them. I can tell

you within 30 seconds of walking into a showroom floor what kind of dealership it is.

Is it the way people respond to you when you walk up?

It's the whole thing. It's the way they're dressed. It's the way the dealership is kept.

If, you know, if the grass at the dealership needs to be mowed, if there's cigarette butts on

anywhere in a customer's site, if the cars are not arranged nicely and all crooked,

all over the place, that dealership doesn't care. I've never even thought about any of that stuff,

but that's what you're here for. That's why you're here. Come on. Yeah. If there's a,

if there's a group of salespeople standing out in front of the showroom floor, smoking cigarettes,

telling stories, I ain't parking. I am not getting out of the car. Period. I know I over

spent on making sure that my dealership, the big one, the last one, I spent a fortune on landscaping.

I spent a fortune on having attendants during the day that were cleaning constantly. Yeah. Yeah.

They had to, they had to sign off that they checked both of the big restrooms twice an hour.

That's one thing. I do know that part. If you walk into a nasty restroom that hasn't been attended

to, you know, they're dropping all kinds of other details about what they do. I mean,

it's just, it's those things. Yeah. So there you go. Let's talk to BJ in Palm Springs, California.

BJ, welcome. How can I help you? Oh, I hope you can. Well, I have a beautiful 2007 Toyota

convertible, Solara. Solara. Oh, what a great car. Yeah, it is. And, you know, I was planning on,

it's got 123 miles, but unfortunately a little Edison truck took me out. Uh-oh.

Yeah. And so it's lost its value. They want $7,000 to repair. So I need a new car. And I said,

I've got a car, Jerry, and I called you last week. Couldn't get through. So thank you for

taking my call. And I'm hoping you can help me and guide me where I want. I mean, if you said,

I'm going to give you a car for free. I wouldn't have a clue of what I wanted other than the

convertible and comfort. And, you know, like I did drive a little BMW. She told me I had a backseat

because if I travel, you know, I have a lot of stuff because I'm a woman. And anyway, she's,

you couldn't get a two briefcase in there, you know, it was ridiculous. And then I, you know,

I did go, I mean, I think the Camaro, I mean the, uh, I did test drive that very hard sporty car and

had bigs on it. So it's, you know, pre-owned. And I did drive a Toyota, uh, Camry, the new ones,

but of course the top doesn't go down. And it was seemed so claustrophobic to me. And it's a

beautiful car. Yeah. But so my pickle is, what do you think about like a little Lexus convertible

that's pre-owned those 2015's 200 C's or the three or two fifties and 350 C's? I just saw one of those.

I don't know what you think of those. Yeah. No, I'm, I'd be all in on that. They made a great,

that was a, that was a great convertible. Are you talking about the LC?

I think it's just, well, maybe it is a 250 C or a 350 C's a little more.

Okay. I suspect you're, you're, you're looking at the IS, uh, Lexus.

Oh yeah. Okay. Yeah. I think you've got that. Yeah. I'm so confused with all these.

Oh, I know. I get it. And that has been a great car, both in the hard top and the convertible.

But if you're, IS 250 or 350, the 350's got the bigger engine. And so,

yeah, if you, if you're not into horsepower and really more interested in fuel economy,

the IS 250 convertible would be a great car for you. I'm trying to remember.

Yeah. They stopped making them in 15. Okay. That was the last year. I was trying to remember

that just now. Uh, what was the last year? So let me ask you this. So pre-owned car,

that's okay, which I usually buy new. I've had this sea ring, which was a pain in the neck when it

first came out in 96. I've had it, my Chevy Chevy 325 1968 convertible. That was a 35 years I had

that car. So I'm not a car person. I take good care of it. And I want something with low mileage.

So that's really hard to find. Yeah, it can be. I'm in Palm Springs.

Um, how computer savvy are you? Not, not terrible. You're gonna need, you're gonna need

some help. You need somebody to get on auto trader and look for and if somebody knows what they're

doing, they can put in your hot buttons. In other words, what I would search for at auto trader is

Lexus convertible under 75,000 miles within 200 miles of your zip code. That's what I would look for

because if it's a dealership, it's particularly an Alexis dealership, they're gonna know how to ship

the car to you. And a lot of people are doing that these days. They're, as long as you can see

a good history report and get a lot of pictures, I'm not afraid to buy a car online, a used car,

especially a Lexus as good as they are. Yeah, but you're gonna, you're gonna need help.

I'm gonna tell you, it's gonna take a computer savvy, one of your kids or one of your grandkids

or somebody that's really good at it, but tell them to use auto trader. I think that's the best

place to go and try to buy one from a Lexus dealer. I've got two great Lexus dealers in Los

Angeles. If they happen to have anything that would take good care of you.

So let's, let's start there. And if you need me again, call me next week. I'll be right here.

Well, from talking to Jerry and the earlier show and just off the air, I know that you've got a

pretty big article that is, I don't say near and dear your heart, but I think it's important

information that I think a lot of people find really useful. That is the dealer advertising laws.

You're gonna kind of cover that for Texas and California next week. Yep. I'm gonna have a

detailed article about dealer advertising laws. And unfortunately, it's rampant, the bait and

switch, the deception, that sort of thing. And there's not enough people with the government

that is overlooking it. I mean, they, they, they don't have the time to, to see they,

they rely on people complaining. Yeah. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't complain

because they think it's so common that, you know, you, you see a car online at a certain price,

when you get there, you find out it's $1,000 more or $2,000 more, or there's a rebate that's

included in that price that you don't qualify for. So, for instance, if I gave you, if you,

if you answered an ad that I put online, okay, just, it could be on my website. And the price

was $29,888. And you got to the dealership and you found out that you had to be

in the military for that price because there's a military rebate.

Yeah. But you don't know that because

they don't tell you. They don't say it at all, right?

Right. But they have to. Yeah.

And so in next week's newsletter, I'm going to give you the statutes that you can quote when

you make your complaint. And I'm going to give you who to talk to, to make the complaint in Texas

and California. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of it. I don't want to hear it anymore.

Yeah. I'm going to do my part to stop it.

I didn't do that crap when I was in the business and I, I'm not going to let anybody do it now.

I am Jerry. Thank you for taking my call.

You bet. What can I help you with, sir?

One question. I have a 21 year old son moving to Detroit, Michigan for about a year who's

going to need some affordable transportation. I don't know if you can lease a used car for

a year or any suggestions you might have. You can lease a used car, but it doesn't make any sense.

And, and the reason is the key to leasing and getting a low payment is the residual value,

which is a lending companies, a lease company's prediction of what that car's worth at the end

of the lease. There, there, there will may, there will may be some outstanding leases

on used electrics coming up. I'm, I'm waiting to see. I expect to see that, but I don't know for

sure. In the meantime, if he's going to lease, which is a great way to get a low payment and

a great way to keep a car that's in warranty, then you want a car that is going to be a good

lease car. Typically, Toyotas and Hondas are the two best that lease with the lowest payments

because they've got the best resale value. So if you, if you look at resell on a used car and then

try to back into a lease on one, I've tried it myself. A new car is a cheaper payment than a

used car. Great. And one of the quick question, he's got an Acura MDX from 2010 that's sitting

on the streets of Fort Worth with more trouble needed to get it fixed and the car's worth.

Do we just donate that to a charity or what do you suggest? Yeah, I would. I would. Texans

Cann Academy here in Dallas, Fort Worth is a great charity. They take anything, they fix them up and

sell them and they put the money back into education for kids that are, that can't afford to do anything

else. Use that. Buying a new vehicle can either be like Christmas or like performing a root canal on
