I give you the full 2025 auto sales report, except for a few automakers that are always
late getting their numbers in, Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar, Land Rover, they're always late every
single year.
I don't know why, but we've got everybody else that you can look at.
One another story that I had that people love to click on, the ID buzz from Volkswagen.
This is the van that we heard about for so many years that it was coming,
and it did come, and now it's gone.
As fast as it came back, as slow as it came back, it quickly went away is what it really
meant to say.
It really did.
That's crazy.
I know.
It just didn't sell, I guess, huh?
No.
Well, they way overpriced it.
They priced it outside the limits of the majority of the people who would buy it.
So, yeah, it's interesting.
They left the door open, though.
They said they were going to discontinue it for 2026, which makes you think there might be a 2027.
If they retool it or at least reprice it and just give it a rest for a second, that might be a
good strategy, I guess.
Well, I told them in the review.
If you'll put a gas engine in this thing, particularly a hybrid
engine in this thing, you couldn't keep enough of them.
I mean, look at what Kia and Hyundai have done.
If you'd probably sit in the 50s and you'd give it a gas option, wouldn't you think there'd
be a fighting chance?
Oh, absolutely.
That'd be a great selling point.
I mean, the vehicle itself is fantastic.
It's just not going to work for a lot of people who just aren't ready to go electric, all electric.

It did make top six, but top six doesn't really count.
Yeah, I don't know of anybody keeping tabs on top six.
So, I assume that you saw that your video was top five.

So, there's a lot of good information this week, of course, with it being first of the year and
everybody trying to figure out all the incentives.
Are they going to really drop like Jerry mentioned?
Because he's going on all this experience and studying the market.
And, well, it didn't exactly do that, I guess.
And so, there's a lot of interest in trying to figure out where we stand with everything.
Well, that's why I have the incentive guide there.

And that's a hard list to get a hold of.
It took us a good long while to put that list together.

And we're touring between the Toyota Highlander and the Subaru Outback.
If you can give me some ideas.
Yeah, they're very different.
Is a third row seat important to you?
No.
Okay.
Because the Highlander's got one and the Outback does not.
How long do you guys typically keep a vehicle?
A decade or more.
Okay.
So you're long-term owners?
Yes.
And how used are you looking?
Are you good?
How far back are you going to go?
Well, we're interested in the Highlander specifically, 2018.
We've been told that past 2018, a lot of parts are plastic and they wear down faster and you
have to get repairs, you know, more quickly than the older cars.
I don't know if that's true.
No, it's not.
No.
Oh, okay.
That's good to hear.
Yes.
There is more plastic, but the plastic is very durable.
And all the manufacturers had to go to a lot of plastic to get the fuel economy standards
higher because plastic parts weigh less than metal parts.
So they're trying to cut every ounce of weight out of cars that they can.
So there is more plastic.
But you're still talking about Toyota, which is, in my opinion, the, you know,
the Gray's car company on the face of the earth right now.
And that may change, but they got it together and they're doing a fantastic job.
Now, with that said, I love Subaru.
I've been a Subaru advocate for many, many years.
But if I were going to keep a car for a very, very long time.
Would you do?
Yeah.
And I was going to try to get 200 plus thousand miles out of a car.
I'd go with the Toyota.
Perfect.

I think that's a mistake.
There's never been, there's never been a bad year for the Highlander.
And, you know, it's kind of like the forerunner and some of the other Toyotas.
They just go forever.
So, you know, find, look more for mileage and cost more than year model.
Because you can't get a bad Highlander.

I guess they're Tri-Color holdings.
They're a large used vehicle retailer and subprime auto lender in the North Texas area.
Are they, was North Texas the only place they were located?
They were all over Texas.
For sure they had a lot of locations and last September they just suddenly closed.
And so now the allegations and the charges have come and they're not good.
They're not good.
And I guess some folks have gone through and probably have had some bad
scenarios and situations with them, I would guess.
Some banks are going to take a bath on this deal.
I mean billions of dollars?
Yeah.
Oof, that's a big, big deal.
That's, there's a lot of interesting rating on what can go wrong with something like that

Hey, thanks so much for taking my call this morning.
It's a pleasure.
It's a pleasure.
So, so my question is, I have a 2014 Honda Pilot and I want to upgrade and go to a new,
the 2027 Kia Tyride, which you have recommended, at least the Tyride model.
Yes.
And I have been trying to figure out, is it possible to get a second row bench seat,
because I have a large family, I need to seat eight, in the hybrid version that they're releasing.
And I've done a lot of web research.
I just, and I've called the dealers, I have called the Kia corporate,
and they said they would have to reach way deep into the factory floor at West Point, Georgia.
And I just can't find like, is there a reason that they can't do that?
And could it be like a special order?
And I can't seem to find any answers.
And if I can't do that, can it be like a special order?
Or can you do a aftermarket kind of thing?
Or do you recommend something else?
I just, you know, go to something else.
Well, let me tell you, Stan, you're really trying a little too soon to get this information,
because I don't know if they've even had it yet.
The way to tell you right is going to roll out.
And I was, I've got an article coming out all about the Telluride, including pricing.
In next week's newsletter, I've been waiting on it.
They finally released it this week, and I've got it for everybody,
because I've had a lot of questions like yours.
They're going to roll out the gas only version first.
They did this with the Hyundai as well.
The Palisade came out first.
I reviewed it as a gas only.
Then I reviewed the hybrid later.
Telluride's doing the same thing.
So I can tell you from looking at the specs yesterday,
and there's a link in the article that I'm going to have in the newsletter next week.
There's a link to look and download the ordering guide.
But the ordering guide is only for the gas rig, not the hybrid.
Now, what I think you could probably do
is if you go to Hyundai and look at the Palisade,
if they offer a bench second row in the Palisade,
you can pretty well bet they're going to offer a bench second row in the Telluride as well.
So you might get on the HyundaiUSA.com website and configure a 2026 Palisade,
and I think that'll give you the answer to the 2027.
Telluride, now the dealers may have more information than what I do.
That's not unusual.
So my dear friend John Patterson has got two key dealerships,
one in Tustin that he just opened about a month ago,
and one in Mission VAO that he's had for a good while now.
If you'll go to carbro.com and find either one of those dealerships and talk,
my contacts are the general managers with John Patterson dealerships.
So if you'll talk to them, if they know they'll be happy to tell you,
I suspect you'll be able to.
I think Kia knows that the hybrid is going to be the number one seller by far.
So they're going to offer it in a lot of different configurations.
That's my guess.
That's what Kia does.
So I think you'll be able to get it.
I just think it's a little bit too soon considering that you want a hybrid.
I know I haven't helped you, but hopefully we can get some answers for you.

I have my eye on the 2026 RAV4.
I've just seen pictures.
Have not seen any on the lot.
What's your take on them?
Well, it's a great small SUV.
It's the number one selling SUV in America of all sizes.
And that's because people who get them, get them again and again and again.
They're that good.
It's great.
No huge changes for 2026 that I'm aware of, at least.
Okay, I had understood that we're going to be a little larger.
I don't think that's the case.
Now, I might be wrong.
I might be wrong.
There's thousands of models that I try to keep up with, but I sure didn't.
I typically, that's the kind of stuff I put in the newsletter when there's a
real big change.
I don't think that's the case.
If there are changes, I think they're probably pretty slight.
And the 2026s have been out for a good while now.
They've all been out of 2025s for a long time.
So you shouldn't have any trouble getting your hands on one to drive,
but I think you'll love it.
And also, what about the hybrid?
Would you recommend that?
Yes.
Any time, any Toyota that comes with a hybrid, I'm going to get the hybrid.
And that's just my hard fast rule.
They make the best hybrids out there, and they've been doing it
longer than anybody by far, and they get great gas mileage.
So if you've got a dealer there in Longview that you work with?
No.
No, sir, I don't.
You might want to talk to my Dallas dealer, Dallas Fort Worth, Freeman Toyota,
because what I would do is go local and drive one, make sure you like it,
but then talk to them because they'll make you a smoking deal and bring it to you.
They do a concierge service.
So they'll flatbed it to you with the papers and get you to sign them.
They'll even do a trade-in, whatever you need them to do.

Some great stories there. Since I'm a former Ford Mustang GT owner,
love the story about the guy that bought a Ford Mustang GT and within an hour he got arrested.
Because he drove too fast and I've had an experience, I didn't get arrested,
but I bought a Ford Mustang GT and within an hour I was driving way too fast because of the
power of that vehicle. So I certainly could understand that, but getting arrested that seems
to be a little too far a thing. Well, I've been in no danger of that happening this week.
No. With a lovely vehicle that you've been reviewing?
Rockin' the minivan. Oh, the minivan. Look at that. How was that? Of course, it's a Kia Carnival,
right? Kia Carnival. Those are nice minivans. This is the hybrid. Okay, fair enough.
Which is for what it is.
And look, I don't like minivans. I know that some people do.
My wife likes that Kia Carnival. I'm fair with my reviews on minivans. Yeah. Even though
I detest driving them. Yeah, they're not the fun vehicles. This is the least
minivan-ish minivan I've ever driven. Oh, is that right? Yeah. The feature is all nice,
kind of sporty. Really nice, really nice vehicle. Got some pickup to it. It's okay.
Oh, really? It's got a sport mode and it helps, but it's, I mean, it's not...
Yeah. I haven't worried about the police this week.
It does get great gas mileage though. I'll bet it does.
Great gas. Very safe vehicle. 32, 33 miles per gallon, mixed, driving. That's not bad for a
minivan. Yeah, no, not at all. The best part about this van is it doesn't look as minivan-ish. In fact,
I did my regular Thursday morning segment in Lubbock this week on KFYL. We've been off
the last two Thursdays because one was Christmas and one was New Year's Day. Yeah.
So I had two weeks off from Lubbock and I started back this week and even Tom, the
host of one of the two morning hosts that I'd talk to every week said,
is that a van or is that an SUV? I went, wow. That's cool. It was truly confused.
You know, because I send them pictures. Right. That's what we talk about on KFYL.
That's what I'm driving. And he wasn't sure. I think that's a positive sign.
He'll get on them. Something like that. Got DVD players on the back of both front seats. So if
you've got kids in the captain's chairs, sitting in the second row, they can watch whatever they
want to, surf the internet, do the whole deal. That's fun. Big panoramic moon roof. In fact,
it's got two moon roofs. It's got one in the front and one in the back. Okay.
Coming in at 57 grand on the winder sticker and that's before discounts and incentives.
All this stuff in there too. That's pretty good price, I would say. Yeah. And you get the 10-year
100,000 mile warranty. So if you're going to be pricing many vans and you get sticker shock from a

Nawaz, what can I help you with, sir? So Mr. Reynolds, I don't know if this question makes
sense. So I bought a car about roughly about seven months ago from a local dealership. It's a 2008
Honda Civic Group. And long story short, when I bought it, it had a clean title. However, when I
put the VIN number in the system on Carfax, it's showing a title that's called a salvage title.
Yep. And so I don't know if I have recourse or I don't know. I'm just asking you,
what does that mean? Oh, and by the way, I just want to let you know, I've not been to Houston for
about 10 or 11 years, but when I was a kid, my father, when he was alive, he used to always
listen to your show and he thought the world to you. Oh, well, thank you. I appreciate that. I'm
sorry. Is he gone? Did you lose him? In 2021, dad went away and in 2015, mom went away. But I'm
sorry. These things happen in life, right? That's all right. So I just thought I would seek your
guidance. The car runs okay. But the morning, it's got 129,800 miles on it. It fires up in the
morning. It gets me to work. It gets me from A to B and back to C. But I just found it very odd,
Mr. Reynolds, that I purchased this car thinking it was a clean title. Yeah. And then I come to find
out after I look up the VIN number and it cost me, I think, about $23 or $28 to look it up. Yeah.
And now all of a sudden, I realize it's got a salvage title, but I don't even know what
light. Wait, let me ask you this. How did you conclude that when you bought it,
that it had a clear title? Did you look at a history report then?
No, sir. So was it just your assumption that it had a clean title?
I just went on the word of the individual that I was buying it from, which mean you were full
from a friend of mine for 30 years. Okay. Several things could have happened.
And he could have, the seller could have known and didn't tell you. And in which case, you don't have
any recourse because used cars are sold as is. And if it's a dealer, you signed multiple documents
to that effect. So what a salvage title means is that it had more damage than the value of
the vehicle and it was totaled. Now, the car facts that you have, did it show what year
this accident or whatever occurrence was that made it have a salvage title?
Yes, it showed 2011. Okay. So the car's been on the road 14 years since whatever happened happened.
But I don't think it's an issue at this point. If there were going to be rec related problems,
they would have shown up much earlier. And if probably been correct, we're probably corrected
at that time. So you don't have any recourse. The only time you would have recourse is if
a dealer pulled a car fax for you and they withheld the information and they knew about it.
They should have told you. I assume this is a used car dealer, not a new car dealer, right?
No, it's a used car dealer. You know, one of those corner lots like we have in Houston.
Yeah, I know. There's a gazillion of them. They probably knew and didn't tell you.
That's kind of the MO of some of these small used car dealers. There's some great ones,
but some of them are shady. They probably knew it and didn't tell you. And there's
nothing you can do about that at this point. But the car will probably be okay. That's low miles
for a Honda. I wouldn't worry about it, my friend. If you don't know the difference between a hybrid
and a plug-in hybrid, you could make a poor decision. Find out which one's right for you.

Well, the word that Jerry uses for, I guess, the entire auto industry for 2025 is the word
recalibration. And he used that as a introduced to news item in this week's newsletter. A look back,
the top 10 automotive stories of 2025, the usual suspects that you expect are there,
tariffs rocking the industry, the EV tax credit eliminated. And there's some other
interesting stories to go back and say, oh yeah, I forgot about that. There's some
interesting things. So why didn't anybody click on it? Well, I did. I'm the one who did.
I know. Just a few people did. I guess they said, we've already been there, already done that.
I guess. I put a lot of time. So did Amy. I thought it was great. There are links in there and
everything, even bring up the Amazon going into used cars thing, which still blows my mind that
you can buy a Hyundai on Amazon. No, you cannot buy a Hyundai on Amazon. You can find a Hyundai on
Amazon, but you're going to buy it from a dealer. Well, why would they do that? Well, because go to
the dealer then. Jeff Bezos needs the money. Well, he's getting something from that, apparently.
Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah, he is. Yeah, he's getting the piece. Dell in Houston. Welcome. Hi, Dell.
What can I do for you? First, I wanted to thank you. I caught your comments on a Subaru and a
teenager and I told my son who was just about to buy a car. Oh, good. And he listened. He reluctantly
listened to his mother, but when he went, they wound up buying the cross track. Yeah. And I'm
very pleased with it. So thank you for that. You're welcome. I have a daughter who has a
lemon and they're putting $4,000 in it to get it repaired and get it out of the dealership.
And so they can buy a variety of cars. I have a 2023 Subaru, not Subaru, Audi Hybrid Leaf.
Yeah. And it's up in July. The car has 9,000 miles on. Oh, wow. And I thought,
is it too complicated to have them buy my car from me and from me to buy a 2026 Audi?
It's not too complicated, but I don't know that it's going to make economic sense. And here's why.
If you buy your leased car, if you buy that 2023 Audi, you have to buy the car from Audi
Financial first, which means you're going to pay sales tax on it in Texas. So you're going to get
taxed. Your daughter is going to buy the car from you and she's going to get taxed.
So we got a double taxation thing there. And by the time you pay tax and she pays taxes,
she could probably buy a different one, maybe not with 9,000 miles, but she could probably buy
something else and come out better ahead. Now, what you might do is talk to my dealer,
my Audi dealer about the 2026 and then get what they'll do is they'll trade for your car
and then they could sell it back to your daughter and save her some money. Does that make sense to
you? Right. But they'll wind up paying taxes, right? Your daughter's going to have to pay tax
no matter what. But you don't have to unless you buy it. If you trade it, you do not have to pay
tax. Oh, I see what you're saying. So that would be the better way to go. And I've got two Audi
dealers there that are both terrific and either one of them, I believe, would do that for you.
They might charge a few hundred dollars to do all the paperwork, but I think that probably if you
bought a new car from them with the understanding that your daughter was going to buy your old car,
they'd take it in on trade and sell it back to her. So I've got Audi Sugarland and I've also

You know, that's an unusual story because usually when people go to a dealership and they drive the
car and they pick, you know, kind of what they want, then they're bit by the bug.
They're ready for it. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And they waited a week.
Waited a week, talked about it, picked out the trim level and then calling it back. And the folks at
Classic man said, well, they may not come back. We don't know, but they did come back
to their credit. Yeah, they did. We had a saying when I was in the car business,
be backs don't come back. We had a name for people who said, oh, yeah, I gotta go think
about it. I'll be back. That was called a be back. I'll be back and be backs don't come back.
They don't come back. No, that's why car salesman chase you out the door. Oh, yeah. Trying to get
