What could I help you with?
I have a 2017 Ram 1500 model truck.
Yep.
I have a situation where it says check ABS track light.
I took it to the mechanic.
Now that's what he tells me,
that it needs an ABS module.
He put it on back order and we went through a routine
of different things and we're being told
that the product hasn't even been available for two years.
Do you offer some suggestions or some knowledge
of this ABS module?
No, I haven't heard of it, but the only suggestion
I've really got is if you haven't,
if you or the technician hadn't done it,
is check salvage yards and try to find one
that's working at a salvage yard and they test.
Salvage yards have gotten very sophisticated.
They used to just be junk yards,
but now they test parts before they offer them for sale.
You can get online and find them.
There's a lot of things you can do
and if it were me, look, they'll solve the problem.
I bet money that the supplier that they used for that part
probably went out of business and another supplier
is trying to duplicate it and make it where it fit
and they'll get there, but God knows when that's gonna happen.
In the meantime, I'd try to find a used one
and stick that on there until you can buy a new one.
Well, when you say use the partner expression,
right, salvage yards, are you saying actually go to one
and talk to them and let them put it out
over that speaker system if that's what they still have?
No, if you find one and you will
and they ship parts constantly.
I mean, it used to be you had to go locally,
but now with the internet, you can get online and search,
pick a salvage yard from a Google search
and if there's one out there, they'll find it for you
and get it and ship it to you,
then have your mechanic put it on, the guy you use.
How many miles are on this truck?
79,000.
Okay, yeah, I think it would be worth it.
There's probably, and your mechanic may know this,
but there's probably multiple years
that that part is interchangeable.
I wouldn't be surprised at all.
If like 2015 to 2020 wasn't the exact same parts,
a Dodge Cricer Jeep Ram dealer can look in their parts book
and tell you what years are going to work.
And finding one should be fairly simple.
Well, the follow-through is what you're saying.
I did go to Google and the only place I came up with,
now I'm not a computer expert or I'm not a research expert,
but the only place I found was you'll just say
somewhere like Illinois.
Retail on that part at the Dodge dealer was 323.
The place in Illinois was $650 for it.
And they don't accept credit cards,
all they accept is a check,
and I don't like the idea that once I got my check
and test it, I'm at third mercy according to the blog,
and I know I can't put all the faith in the blog,
but that's what's important.
No, I don't blame you.
I would not be comfortable with that either,
to be honest with you.
Go to, I was just looking online.
Houston auto recyclers.
Houston auto recyclers.com.
Go there and look and see what they can do to help you.
I think they'll be able to.
And I know this company.
I don't know anyone in particular there,
but they've been around for a long time
and they've got a good reputation for selling their parts.
They warranty everything,
and seems to me like the prices are good also.
eBay Motors is another place to check.
eBay Motors.com, check there.
And let's see, eBay Motors.com.
You can search specifically for your year,
and I bet you they got one too.
And with eBay, yeah, and that's a good thing
to put in the search engine at eBay Motors
to see what pops up.
But you'll be able to find one.
I think you're gonna have to go used for now.
And then when the new ones come out,
you can get a new one.
If the one you buy fails before you get rid of the truck,
and hopefully it won't.

I'm looking for a Subaru Crosstrek by 23, 24.
Now, I did some research and I went, you know,
CarMax and went down there and talked to them.
And they found one for me, a 2023
and it's got 3,190 miles on it, premium,

Now, I'm kind of nervous because it's not a new car,
but I don't need a new car at my age.
I just want something that's, you know,
trippable and, you know, easy to drive
and, you know, for a senior.
Anyway, and I'm looking for, like I said, a Subaru.
So what do you think as far as CarMax
and what they're quoting me as the price?
Do you have any idea?
Did they tell you why they had a Subaru
with only 3,000 miles on it?
No, they didn't, but on the website,
it says that it was a leaf vehicle.
A little suspect to that, to be honest with you.
Have you looked at a history report?
Yes, everything checked out okay
as far as what they have on the internet, you know.
The car is really clean.
It's got a spare tire, a real spare tire,
not one of those temporary things.
Like I said, it's a premium.
It's fully, it's got a sunroof.
It's fully loaded.
I drove the car.
It handled really well.
Oh yeah, they're supposed to be pretty safe, you know.
The car itself.
Actually, the car itself is great.
The suggestion from, yeah, that's what everybody says.
If you ask them, you know, there's,
oh no, I love it in my Subaru.
Well, I would almost buy a Subaru, so.
Anyway, it's just like, they've got quite a few
with low mileage.
This one happens to be a 2023.
And what are they asking for it?
They're asking, I put my paper in there, hold on a sec here.
They are asking, 26998.
It's, the price is fine, no problem.
That's probably, you know, if you bought a brand new 2025,
it'd probably run 35, 36,000.
So 3,000 miles in three years old.
I don't have a problem with the price.
I am concerned about why somebody would get rid of a Subaru
with 3,000 miles, but things happen.
I mean, could have been a death, you know.
They could have lost their job and had to get out of it.
You know, you never know.
You know, they have others too.
Like for instance, the one with 19,000 miles,
another one, you know, was probably,
let's see what was this one, 27,000 miles.
So, and it only has a 10,000 miles on it too.
So, I mean, the mileage on these Subaru's,
it's kind of weird, huh?
I mean, is it people that wanted to get maybe
a bigger car, I don't know.
It could be, you never know.
I mean, people trade cars for the weirdest reasons.
I learned that way too long ago,
but Subaru makes a great car.
The only thing I would recommend
before you pull the trigger,
I don't have a lot of faith in car facts.
I'd look at an auto check, go to autocheck.com.
It'll cost you about 25 bucks.
But if it's also clean,
then you can bet that the car's okay.
And I would go there.

I have a 2021 GMC C1500 pickup truck and it is slipping.
And I've had it in the shop five times
in one place twice, included in that.
And they just can't seem to get it.
It's not throwing a code, but it is slipping so bad.
You know, it's fine while in the shop,
and then a week goes by and it starts just slipping again.
The transmission, you're talking about the transmission?
Yes.
Okay.
And it's at 57,500 miles and a warning, 60,000.
And so I just can't get this fixed.
And I don't know what to do about it.
You need to call GMC direct, the factory.
And get your issue on record with them.
Now, they may, they may want to send somebody
to a dealership to look at it.
They may know what the problem is from their experience.
You know, I've seen that before.
They've put a place about body, they've done the filters.
The place I've had it twice recently,
I asked them about calling GMC and they're like,
well, you can call it, you can always call them
be an advocate for yourself,
but they're just gonna call us.
Yeah, they really, they'd prefer you didn't do that
because it's gonna cause them to have to fill out
some paperwork too bad.
They need, you really need to get this on record with GMC.
So after the warranty runs out,
then you've talked to them, they know about the problem.
Give them all the documentation.
Let them know you've had it in at this mileage,
you know, the five times it's been in for this,
let them know what the miles were
and let's see what they can do to help you.

The Tell You Ride and the Palisade
are virtually the same vehicle.
They've got a few differences.
But they're both great.
They're both got three rows of seating.
And the Santa Fe's a three-row cedar also,
but it's not as roomy as the Palisade and the Tell You Ride.
So if it were me and there's,
if you're looking at, let's just say you concentrate
on Hyundai and you look at the Santa Fe
and you look at the Palisade, right?
There's about five grand difference between them
with the Palisade being more expensive,
but it's also roomier.
Now, if she's gonna keep her next vehicle,
like 12 years like she's kept the last one,
I'd probably tell you that the Palisade,
that extra room that you get in the Palisade,
not only in the third row seat,
but also in the cargo area,
it's probably gonna be worth that extra investment.
So if I were you,
I'd probably narrow your list down to Palisade
or Tell You Ride and choose one of those.

and the stuff you get in there, it's really hard to beat.

Well, I've got a 2014 300,
yes, 300H Lexus with 190,000 miles.
And my bane in life is I like red cars
and out here the paint fades on them.
And my question is, should I go to the expense
of having this thing repainted?
I've been well taken care of.
I mean, I do everything you're supposed to do
and then some to maintain the car.
But my real concern is, are those traction batteries
getting to the end of their life?
And I really don't want to spend the money on paint
and then turn around and have to buy traction batteries.
Yep. And that's exactly what I was going to ask.
Is it the original hybrid battery?
Yep.
Then that's coming.
That's going to come, that's going to hit you
in the next 15 to 25,000 miles.
You can pretty much count on it.
Oh, boy. Okay.
Well, that answers the question about
whether you get it repainted.
Yeah, I would say so.
I'd say so.
And look, I'd go right back with an ES hybrid.
There's just nothing better out there.
And the other one that you might look at
and give some consideration to is the Camry.
If you haven't looked at a Camry XLE in a while,
you'd be surprised how nice they've gotten through the years
and it's less money, of course.
So, you know, if you're going to stick with a car
and not make the transition to an SUV
like the rest of the whole wide world is done,
then I'd look at another ES and I'd look at a Camry, both,
and see which one you like the best.
Actually, I am going to make the transition to an SUV,
I thought of the Camry XLE either the plug-in hybrid
or the regular hybrid drive.
Yeah, and I like both.
And the Toyota Lexus system is the best out there.
And I'm going to keep saying that
until somebody makes one is good.
I haven't seen that yet.
So, you know, you could look at the NX on the Lexus side,
you could look at the RX on the Lexus side.
If you go Toyota, RAV4 is probably
one of the absolute best SUVs you could buy
if you don't want to go real big.
So, you got choices, but I can't make the case
for spending money on the paint job
knowing full well that you got a hybrid battery
and that's going to cost you about $4,000
coming up here real quick.

As we start the new year, of course, resolutions
are things we all set and statistically,
we either abandon them or forget about them
about two weeks in or so.
That typically is the way things go.
This is something that we should all probably strive to do.
In the newsletter, advice column,
nine ways to be a safer driver
in 2026, the obvious things are there.
You're not drinking when you're impaired,
not driving aggressively, that kind of thing.
The two things were of interest to me.
I don't know if they apply to me specifically,
but just because I just see people
when there are roadside assistants
and first responders and workers,
I see people flying through there
and not giving right away and it drives me crazy to see that.
To see people do that and it's unsafe.
And it's against the law.
It is, as well as it should be.
In Texas, you've got to either move over a lane
or slow down to 20 miles per hour under the speed limit.
Right, even if there's nothing posted
or if there are no cones or anything,
it's not only the law,
but it's just a common courtesy to do that.
I lost a dear friend that way.
Oh, really?
Police officer, yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
Killed on the freeway.
Somebody wouldn't pay attention
and he had a car stopped, a motorcycle officer,
and he had a car stopped and car ran him over.
Terrible story.
It was. Yeah.

So I'm here in Texas and I'm looking at picking up a new car.
The negative is I don't have garage space,
so I have to add something to store it
and it's going to be a fairly expensive older car.
So my real question, Terry,
is what's really necessary to keep a car in good shape
as far as insulation, air conditioning, et cetera.
And it's not a $200,000 car,
but it's a pretty expensive older car.
Yeah. Well, climate control is a big deal.
And so if you can do your best to control that,
you're talking about a completely enclosed area, right?
Yes.
Yeah, it'll be a separate garage structure.
Yeah, it will be fully enclosed.
If you can air condition it, that's a big deal.
Heat is a good idea, although not as important
as the air conditioning is.
And that's because of the heat in the summer,
especially where you are, drying out seals
and gaskets internally can cause you all kinds of problems.
So that's the two main things.
If you've got a way to keep the tires off the ground.
And by the way, Jerry,
this is something that I will be driving as well.
Oh, okay.
So daily or just weekends?
I would say probably weekly.
Okay, then you're not going to want to put it up in the air.
You're not going to want to put it on jack stands
or anything like that.
And driving it weekly is a good idea
to keep the fluids flowing through
or lubricating things that need to be lubricated.
But I think with the climate thing in Texas,
the air condition part is the main thing.
And that's going to preserve the paint as well.
And then all the seals and gaskets
being out of the elements, that's a huge deal.
Other than that, there's not much you can do.
But you hit the, this is the one point I was concerned about
and you said what I thought you would say
and I really appreciate that.
But it cost me a little more.
What?
It cost me a little more money,
but I think it'll be well worth it.
Oh, I do too.
You got to tell me what kind of car are we talking about here?
An older Porsche at early 90s, 911.
Oh, that's awesome.
That thing's going to be,
it's already worth a lot of money,
but it's going to be worth a lot more in the future.
