This is the CarPro Show, and we are coming to you on the last weekend of the month, and

this is it.

And I will tell you, depending on where you are listening from, boy, it's been a bit

of a rough month for the car dealers in America, and especially those in Texas who have been

plagued with some really bad weather.

It's not like January's aren't hard enough in the car business.

This is the month that when I was in the car business, I always dreaded, you know, because

you come off your best month of the year, which is December, and then January rolls

around and there's just this let down, and your people are tired from December.

You're dealing with weather, usually your inventory, the best inventory has already

been sold in December, so you're working out of an inventory that's not great.

The used car market typically drops, makes it harder to do deals with people.

That hadn't been the case this year, but the incentives fall off.

That hasn't been the case this year either, but my point is January's are hard in the

car business.

You throw weather in there, makes it doubly hard, and then you get down to here we are

at the last end of the month.

Now, the good news is, if you can't get into one of our dealers this weekend, the incentives

do run through Monday night, so you can still get that deal.

But I'm going to tell you that the dealers are very eager.

All they're thinking today is volume, they're not thinking about profit.

They're not going to change what kind of month they're going to have financially at this

point in the month.

It's the last day.

All they can do now is try to get some numbers out and sell some cars.

Yes, sir, what a crazy week in North Texas.

I know that we are all over the country and there are other parts of the country that

had it worse than we did with the weather and the snow and the ice and everything.

Yeah, you know, that ice thing, it's in the multiple layers of ice that kept coming back

because we had layers of ice that, you know, kept building upon that.

That was the rough part for where we were.

And my home state of Louisiana, there were folks as of yesterday who still didn't have

power nearly a week after.

I believe it.

It's crazy what's going on there.

Majority, I think, are getting back online, but I read accounts of people who said, well,

it's just warmer to, you know, sleep in the car than it is to be in the house because it's so cold.

Well, there were 50,000 in Texas that didn't have power here just a few days ago.

And I went through that in 2021.

Not anymore, you don't.

No, I got a Generec.

Thank God.

Wow, holy cow.

Yeah, bad.

So that's where we are right now.

It's been, again, it's just been a rough month for the dealers and they're really

wanting to sell some cars today.

So, you know, let's let's see what we can do to help you and help them.

And and the end of the day, what the price you get, the deal that you get.

If you can do something, boy, let's let's talk about it.

What can I do for you?

Yeah, sir.

We're thinking about getting a Subaru Ascent or a QTA you ride.

Yeah.

What's your opinion on that?

What, uh, how long do you think you're going to keep this vehicle?

For a while, we need more room for the baby than it's got the good walkthrough, middle seats.

You know, I like the ascent and from a safety standpoint, it's one of the safest

vehicles you could possibly buy.

The eyesight system that Subaru uses is exceptional.

Their all wheel drive system is as good as anything that you could possibly buy.

I think the Telluride is much more enjoyable.

I love the warranty and I love the features on the Telluride.

Todd's got one.

I talked him into one two years ago.

Yes, sir.

I love it.

One of the best vehicles I've ever owned.

And so you get the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on top of that, you know, to make it better.

If I were choosing, I'd choose the Telluride.

But I will tell you, if you went with the ascent, you would never regret it.

It's a great SUV.

But, you know, the Telluride is just, it's just such a neat vehicle.

And there's a reason that they sell so doggone many of those things.

Inside the industry, Cornell, the joke inside the auto industries, we call them sell your

rides instead of tell your rides because the dealers sell them in big numbers and they

sell them as quick as they come in.

So good choices, both of them.

I'd go with the Telluride if it were me.

Well, I'd per se, it's your opinion on that.

Check around there in East Texas if you don't feel like you're getting a deal

and you're willing to come into Dallas-Fort Worth.

I've got great Subaru dealers.

I've got great Kia dealers that will take care of you and really roll out the red carpet.

And I will tell you, I hear from a ton of people in your area that have to come to Dallas.

The dealers there just, it's kind of like Waco.

My dealers help a gazillion people from Waco because the dealers in Waco just don't think

they've got to give anybody a deal.

Kind of that way in Tyler.

Kind of that same thing.

Certainly don't know exactly whether this is true or not.

But one account, one person who's made their guess on our Facebook page

of what the make model and year of the Classic Car of the Week has says,

this vehicle has a top speed of almost 80, 0 to 60 in 20 seconds.

Now, my today's time is not very impressive.

But it's an interesting car.

This is a classic car for sure.

Unique looking car.

What can I do for you?

Hey, Jerry.

We're starting to travel with the fifth wheel.

Yep.

Now have a one ton Ford single rear wheel,

older model does fine right now.

But we are looking to upgrade.

I've seen a lot of the stuff online about the difference

between the 350 and the 450 and the Fords dual rear wheel.

Do you have any suggestions?

I know the 450 is a lot more expensive.

Yep.

It's a whole different truck.

You probably have to order it.

Bruce, how big a trailer are you trying to pull?

It's it's a like a 40 foot fifth wheel.

You know, in the in the 16,000 pound range.

Dude, you don't need a 450 for that.

350 350 will do it and a properly equipped 250 will do it.

Yeah, I just I want the because it's got a real high profile,

the dual rear wheels.

Oh, yeah, you got to you got to go to stabilize.

Well, and the braking braking is a big deal.

So do the do will help you with that.

It'll help you with stability.

It'll help you with, you know, headwinds and side winds.

If you get a sway control with it.

But are you going diesel?

Yes, sir.

OK, an F 350 Dooley diesel with a 373 rear ends.

Well, I mean, it'll do 20,000 pounds even in the mountains.

So I don't I don't think you need any more than that.

And I'll be honest with you.

An F 450 when you're not towing something will beat you to death.

It's it's it's got such a beefy suspension under it.

It'll it'll just it'll rattle your teeth.

So I would I go with the 350.

Yes, or they just talk about the bigger brake system and better front end turning system.

Yeah, but you're going to have trailer brakes anyway.

That's between that and the brakes that come on a 350 Dooley.

You're going to have plenty of stopping power.

You're getting the right engine.

That power stroke has been just a workhorse.

And you know, I yeah, I think I think you're on the right track.

And you're probably right.

OK, you will probably have to order it.

What can I do for you, sir?

Yes, I have a question that I think maybe you're one of the few people could answer.

I've asked other people, but they didn't seem to have the background to give me an answer I could

trust. In 2011, my wife and I bought a Ford product called the SHO.

Oh, yeah.

It was a symbol.

Yeah, you remember, okay.

Oh, yeah, I was a tourist.

Those who don't know on the Lincoln assembly line.

And for a heavy car, it had good mileage, great acceleration.

And you know, your wife driving a car like this, they say you almost couldn't turn the thing over.

And it had all wheel drive.

We're California people who drove it in the snow at times and all kinds of things that we loved.

That was a great car.

And I know they no longer do it, right?

Oh, no.

And my question is, do you think that Ford will sometimes reintroduce it or product similar to it?

They stopped and started a couple of times.

I think they quit in 2017 and restarted again in 2019.

China bought hundreds of them as a diplomat car.

You know, the kind of car that meets the diplomats at the airport.

And I also heard at one point that Ford ordered a couple of extra inches of leg room in the back,

things like that.

But that car is not out there anymore.

And even if it's not the same name, well, let me say this one thing before you give an answer.

I'm the kind of guy that when I pay that kind of price because we don't want a couple of Cadillacs

and so on, we were in the Cadillac market at the time.

But I looked at it and I wasn't really satisfied.

I, you know, I look at the carpet and I check under the seats for the fit and all that kind

of thing.

The door panels just weren't right.

But that SHO just had everything.

It was an outstanding car.

It was a Ford Taurus, had a Yamaha engine in it, believe it or not.

Yamaha made that special engine, had a lot of horsepower.

It was a good buy for the time.

I don't, I don't see them bringing it back down.

They made another try with the Taurus as we got close to 2000 and they did put a larger engine.

And it wasn't the show engine, but it was still, it was a 3.5 liter V6 as I recall.

I just don't see it.

Ford's gone a different direction.

If it happens, it won't be any time soon.

Lots of lists we had in the newsletter this week, actually.

And one of them, the most clicked item, was the U.S. News and World Report.

Best cars for the money winners.

And they go by category.

So you can go and see if you're shopping for a compact car, subcompact, midsize, whatever the vehicle.

It's got there based on, of course, the affordability.

And with average new vehicle prices topping $50,000, you can find some cars for less than that in there.

For the money, they're giving you the list of cars to consider.

So it's a pretty cool little list.

If you're a value-conscious shopper and you want to get the best bang for the buck.

Yeah, and rounding out the top five, we had Kelly Blue Books Best Buy picks for 2026, the 2026.

Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country review that I did, which was a great pickup truck.

I really enjoyed it.

And we had the JD Power Residual Value Awards, which I'm a big proponent of good resale value.

And residual value and resale value are the same thing, except the residual value is a prediction.

But I'm going to tell you, they're always right.

And so that was a good list.

And then we had my video.

You, you mentioned early, and you probably had a good point that mine was snow related.

And I think people were just kind of sick of snow.

Seeing accidents and snow.

They'd seen them all week long in the news anyway.

This guy's got a ram truck.

Oh, I remember the news story about this.

Okay.

I did see that.

I didn't watch your video, but I saw the thing.

And I remember seeing that in the news where I shouldn't give it away, right?

We don't want to, or should we?

Go ahead.

You explain.

Well, it's, it's only a minute long.

So, you know, it's not a big deal.

But yeah, he, I think his intention was to put a chain around the ATM machine and drag

the ATM machine out of the convenience store.

Yep, exactly.

He backs into the window and door of a convenience store.

But I mean, he drove through it.

Yeah.

In reverse.

Right.

Then he couldn't maneuver the truck in reverse to get it out.

And he finally gets it out, but he's not giving up yet.

No, no.

No.

He comes around the store to the other side and then drives through the store.

He destroyed this store and ends up with nothing.

So he didn't actually, he couldn't actually maneuver getting the chain around the ATM

to be able to drag it out.

Right.

Plus, was he going to be able to do that?

They, they set those things in concrete now, don't they?

I would think they would.

Typically they do.

I know the ones outside are, I'm assuming the ones inside probably are too.

Yeah.

I don't know.

Not only did he not get anything, but he destroyed the store and he destroyed the truck.

Yeah.

I'm looking at it right now and he is like tearing his truck up just trying to get to

the doorway of it.

Yeah.

What an idiot.

At Gulf Coast Ford.

Sure.

Now, my question is we went and talked to him yesterday

and test drove the 26 F-250 with the gas engine and a 25 F-150 with a 3.5 power boost.

Having a hard time making a decision.

What do you...

And I need some advice based on my use.

What are you telling?

When?

About six times a year.

I told a 16 foot trailer with a side by side on the back and that's about it.

And what do you think when it's loaded that trailer weighs?

5,000?

5,000 max, probably.

Okay.

Then go with the 150.

First off, the difference in fuel economy is going to save you a bundle.

But more than anything, more than anything else, the ride and drive of the F-150 versus

the F-250, if you need a three quarter ton truck, you need a three quarter ton truck.

And there's no getting around that.

But if you don't need a three quarter ton truck and you don't for 5,000 pounds,

that power boost will tow 12,000 pounds, which is good in case you get a bigger trailer down the

road.

But for now, you're only pulling that thing six times a year.

But you're driving that truck 365 days a year.

The ride difference is dramatic.

The way that making a U turn, parking it, everything is so much

simpler with the 150.

And that power boost, I've said it on the show before.

If I were going to get a new truck today, and I'm not in the market for one, but if I were,

it would be the F-150 power boost.

I love that engine.

I love the fuel economy that it gets.

I love the fact that you can run heavy duty power stuff.

You run your whole house off the back of that truck if you want to.

Yeah.

That's what we were found out yesterday.

It's a no.

I know the amenities on the inside of the truck are very similar.

And that was something that they pointed out how Ford has laid everything out.

Identical in the Lariat package.

So you can go from truck to truck and not be confused about where the buttons and dials and

everything are and just for the convenience sake.

The one thing that I did not like about the 150 was the bed size.

Is there an option of getting a longer bed?

Yeah, there is.

Most dealers don't order them very often because that's not the norm.

Most of the crew caps come with a five and a half foot bed.

You can go to a six and a half foot bed.

But do you also haul things besides towing your trailer?

Yeah, during hunting season mostly and rarely other than that except for long trips.

We do a lot of long distance driving and for vacations and we take just about everything

we need with us and a couple of dogs at times.

So having the bed space and the cab spaces for comfort is important.

I'm sure you're looking used, right?

Well, we went and looked at new.

I didn't even consider looking at used yet.

Well, they may confine you at another dealer, a six and a half foot bed in a 150,

you know, depending on how quick you need it.

You know, they may need to order it.

It's just it's not something that a lot of dealers stock because the take rate on them is very low.

I'd say the five and a half foot bed is 95 percent of what they sell.

So there are dealers that stock them so they could probably go to a different dealer and get

you one. But I think for me, it's a no brainer to go with the 150 over the 250 in your circumstance.

I would tell you if you needed a 250, you do not, based on what you're telling me.

Every single week of the newsletter, Jerry likes to share some stories of the automotive industry,

some things that are sometimes amusing. Sometimes they're kind of crazy.

It's called quick shifts. There are at least three, sometimes four stories in every quick shift.

My favorite story of all of them involved an Arkansas state police trooper who was hired

back in October, a new guy. So I don't know when the actual event happened.

I'm assuming it's been the last month or so, but maybe even more recent.

But he was apparently after it was a Buick and Vista doing 92 and his 60.

By the time he caught up to him, the vehicle he believed to be the one speeding did the pit

maneuver. It was the wrong vehicle. He was the wrong vehicle, but he must took a Buick and Vista

or the other. He thought it was a Buick and Vista.

That was the car that was a full size GMC Yukon that he eventually did the pit maneuver on.

Now I'm certainly no car pro, but seems to be a little bit of difference between those two.

Yeah, I'm not sure how he did that. I'm not sure either. Now he did, of course,

get relieved of his duties quickly after law enforcement careers over pretty much done.

Oh, yeah. Wow. Oh, well, I got some good ones coming up for this next week too.

So yeah. Okay. But speaking of one of the stories in yesterday's newsletter, the Buick

in Vista, which was made in China is moving production to the United States.

I saw that in the news and I thought, man, I bet Jerry mentions that on the show tomorrow.

You're correct. Yeah, that's great. I've had people tell me they love the vehicle,

but they wouldn't buy it because it was made in China.

Well, there you go. Now you got to get a reason to buy one when they move it here.

Yeah. Which is going to be what next year or two?

Yeah, next, I think it's going to take two years to get it over here. But

oh, that's, uh, that's another byproduct of tariffs.

The ripple effect is working.

Good morning, Jerry. Hi, buddy.

Let me get you off the Bluetooth here. There we go. I was calling to ask,

I recently became retired and I read with interest your article on the,

uh, on your homepage about leasing for, uh, for retired people.

My question is, um, a number of years ago, it would have been 19 or excuse me, 2019,

I purchased a F 150 at one of your dealers, but attempted to lease a raptor at that time.

They said there was no way any of the finance companies would lease a raptor.

And I'm not sure what their reasoning was, but, um, is that still kind of a thing?

You know, I, I think they will lease raptors.

And I think the, the motivation with the early raptor was

knowing that this was an off-road vehicle and that probably the people at the bottom

were going to tear the hell out of them. They didn't want those back after three years.

So I think that was the, I think, I think the, the raptor has evolved to the point now that

most people don't take them off-road. They just drive them, you know, in the concrete

and they will. Now, whether or not the, the terms of the raptor lease are favorable or not,

most pickups don't lease really well. And, and, and that's just that. And the exception to that rule

is the Toyota Tundra. It leases great. It leases abnormally good.

But the raptor, I don't think you'd be, I think with a raptor, you'd be better off buying it and

still leasing it. And I don't, I don't say that often. If you were looking at a Tundra, I'd tell

you a hundred percent of the time lease it on a raptor. I don't think so. But Joshua Victor,

Victor is the GM at Five Star Ford, North Richmond Hills. Run this past him. Let's see what he can

exceeded our expectations, knowledgeable in all aspects of the vehicle. Toward the property,

they explained their services. I couldn't believe how clean their service area was. You could eat

off the floors. I love that. I love that saying and all staff we met were courteous, friendly,

helpful. Just nothing but raised for a course. It's a Sewell dealerships. That really surprised

you. No, it doesn't surprise me in the least. They are amazing. Yes, indeed. But all of our

dealers are great. We told a story. We had a listener called back in the Dallas show this

morning between 9 and 11 that was called me two weeks ago in the air and he was in an impossible

situation. And he, one of my dealers stepped up to the plate and just did an outstanding job.

And the gentleman is driving a brand new Chevrolet today. Life changing situation for him.

And not only was it life changing for him because he didn't have a car. This was totaled

and he owed way too much on it. But he needed a reliable car to go to his sister's funeral.

What a horrible situation. That was rough. But we solved it. That's what my dealers do.
