Welcome to The CarPro Show.
01:04
Jerry Reynolds, The CarPro, was in the auto industry for over 35 years.
01:08
And in addition to getting his sixth win from the Texas Auto Writers Association for Best
01:12
Radio Show in Texas, he's a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
01:17
Along with fellow members, Dan Rather and George Carlin.
01:20
His co-host, Todd Chambliss, just became a member of Applebee's Hall of Fame
01:25
for finishing off 84 check-in nuggets without using a dipping sauce.
01:29
Now, let's get to straight talk and honest answers about everything automotive on The CarPro Show.
01:35
Well, thank you for joining us.
01:37
Yes, it's The CarPro Show.
01:39
Here we are mid-March.
01:41
Lots of deals going on out there.
01:43
So if you're thinking about making a move, give me a call here at theretailmyride.com.
01:50
Studios in Dallas, Texas.
01:52
I'd be loving to talk to you about your car situation.
01:56
I don't take mechanical questions, but other than that, it's on the table.
02:01
Tell me what it is that you would like to end up with.
02:05
And maybe you're down to two or three cars.
02:08
And I'll tell you which one I like the best after driving at least 100 cars a year.
02:14
And if you're thinking about leasing and you don't completely know if that's a good thing for you,
02:19
I can tell you about that too.
02:23
We handle those pretty well.
02:24
We got a lot of dealers that are part of the show that are very good with credit situations.
02:31
And whatever it is, other than mechanical, I'll take it right now at 800-926-7777.
02:42
We welcome Los Angeles, KNX, 10.70 AM.
02:46
Good to have you guys with us for this hour.
02:55
Todd Chambers, we call him the road master sometimes.
02:58
It was a christened to me some time ago.
03:01
And I'm thinking of getting a t-shirt with that on there.
03:06
I was looking at your newsletter and we had talked during the week and you mentioned
03:10
in everything else in the all-new 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid.
03:18
Of course, the pricing on that came out this week.
03:21
And outside of the front grille, which has a real futuristic trim look to it,
03:26
kind of weird thing.
03:27
That's going to take a look at used to.
03:30
I love the rest of that vehicle.
03:32
I think, didn't you already test drive that?
03:35
And you're a big fan of it.
03:36
I'm always a big fan of the Telluride.
03:38
I don't want to tell you right now and that's a hybrid.
03:40
But that was big news this week and made me think, well,
03:44
wish I weren't in the middle of my deal right now.
03:46
I'd probably go in and get one.
03:48
But nonetheless, it's a beautiful car.
03:50
And that's in the newsletter outside of all the other stuff too.
03:53
But that piqued my curiosity when I had the newsletter with that in there yesterday.
03:59
And we've been waiting on that for a while.
04:02
And we finally got it.
04:03
The number one most popular story in the newsletter was an advice column that I wrote,
04:10
and I do that every week.
04:12
Why do new car headlights blind me?
04:17
You made the top five with your video this week.
04:19
I can't believe it.
04:21
Skated right in there barely, but I'm in there.
04:24
And if you missed my new song that was part of the newsletter yesterday,
04:39
titled Stand with the Brave.
04:41
Stand with the Brave.
04:42
It's about our troops that are fighting over in Iran right now.
04:47
It was very well received, had a lot of people listen to it,
04:52
and I invited people to share it.
04:55
And if you know of anyone that might enjoy it, then let them have it.
05:01
And it's true with the whole newsletter.
05:02
If you want to forward the whole newsletter on to someone else, we're fine with it.
05:08
My true stories from a former car dealer are there.
05:12
Yesterday it was childcare, which is an interesting story about when I built my
05:19
new dealership in Dallas, Fort Worth, I built a childcare center into it.
05:26
That was probably a novel, like a newer type of thing.
05:30
It was a little unusual at the time.
05:32
We had it fully staffed with teachers that could watch your kids while you bought a car.
05:40
But something went awry that I didn't anticipate.
05:45
And I'll tell you that story.
05:47
I do like your closing message too, the one word behind all the things going on
05:53
that you mentioned with the songs and you're trying to find a common denominator.
05:57
And there was one common word that you used to describe all of that.
06:02
And it's it's it's good reading.
06:05
I really been working on the closing message to be unusual every week and to be helpful every week.
06:15
Let's go to League City, Texas in Houston.
06:19
Kelly, Kelly, what can I do for you?
06:23
Yes, Jerry, enjoy the show.
06:26
We've got a we've got a 2021 Ford Expedition Max King Ranch.
06:33
And I've been thinking about trading it in.
06:37
It's real low mileage, 35 only like 35,000 miles.
06:42
It pretty much sits.
06:45
Anyway, I didn't know whether I would I'm thinking about trading it in on a I was hoping
06:51
maybe a certified three-owned Toyota forerunner and maybe going fifth generation,
06:59
the last generation with the V6 that's it's been around forever and will last forever.
07:08
Anyway, I didn't know as far as in the Houston area, you know, who you guys dealt with who might
07:16
still have a, you know, as far as large selection of 2025's.
07:28
Yeah, something like that.
07:29
Yeah, nobody's going to have I doubt you'll find a single 25 forerunner out there.
07:37
And if there is one, there's probably something wrong with it.
07:42
Toyota just they they they're the only car company I know that does this.
07:48
They they run out of old models right before the new models.
07:56
And they they they're excellent at planning it.
08:00
And so they never have distressed merchandise like, I mean, they're still 2025's just about
08:07
everything else out there other than Toyotas and Lexuses.
08:11
Now, I will I will tell you that I I've I've had the forerunner the new one.
08:19
I absolutely love it because it's got a lot of things that you'd be missing with a 2025
08:27
such as power tailgate didn't have it didn't offer it in the last generation.
08:35
You're used to a loaded SUV and, you know, power folding mirrors
08:42
are not available on the 2025.
08:45
That was another thing.
08:46
And there was just a lot of things that that last generation forerunner was around for a real long
08:53
time and they didn't change anything.
08:55
And until this new one came out,
08:59
there you I really don't think that's going to be your answer.
09:03
I'll be honest with you.
09:06
Don't worry about the new Toyota engines.
09:09
They're doing great.
09:10
I've got four Toyota dealers at carpro.com.
09:14
You can look them up right at the top of the page.
09:18
Drive the new forerunner.
09:20
The car pro Jerry Reynolds knows things you just can't know.
09:24
So call it on the chase dot com car pro listener line.
09:42
Every single week, it's quick shifts in the newsletter.
09:44
Some great stories from the automotive industry and Jerry's take on them.
09:48
I guess of all the stories this week, the one involving the
09:51
it's titled the worst possible escort to the hospital.
09:56
With this particular family, they encountered their son who was having
10:00
an allergic reaction.
10:01
They tried the EpiPen and he was still having symptoms.
10:04
So they wanted to rush to the hospital.
10:07
They were speeding and along the way, state trooper clocked them 70 and a 60 and then
10:12
tried to go in and pull them over.
10:14
They were not pulling over as quickly as this trooper would like.
10:18
So he enacted the pit maneuver on them.
10:22
And well, they quickly discovered this was an emergency situation.
10:27
They did get help and everything, but now I think they're probably reviewing
10:30
a state police looking at this particular trooper and see what happened there.
10:34
Yeah, he may, he may want to consider selling cars.
10:43
Santa Clarita, California.
10:46
How could I help you, sir?
10:50
Well, gosh, it's a pleasure.
10:53
I've listened to you for years and I finally have an issue.
10:57
Okay, we're going to go for you.
11:01
You, I've noticed it's almost unavoidable.
11:06
The rapid depreciation in the marketplace of so many EVs doesn't seem to have to do
11:15
much with the quality necessarily, but some people seem to be panicking
11:21
and leaving these behind.
11:23
I mean, it's a great buy for somebody who wants to pick one up.
11:26
But I'm wondering if this severe depreciation is something that maybe
11:32
only lasts another six months or a year or it's just a way of life.
11:37
No, I think it's going to actually get worse.
11:44
In calendar year 2026, right now, between now and the end of the year,
11:52
there are 300,000 EVs coming off lease.
12:00
So people who leased them three years ago are going to be getting out of them this year.
12:06
So the market is going to get flooded with EVs.
12:12
And anytime the market gets flooded with anything, it drives prices down.
12:19
Now, the one rare exception is Tesla.
12:25
They are still holding their value and I don't really understand it.
12:40
But they're holding their value and none of the other ones are.
12:45
Now, whether or not the rest of these EVs will drag Tesla down throughout this,
12:51
the rest of this year, I don't know.
12:52
We're going to have to wait and see.
12:54
But I can guarantee you this of those 300,000 EVs coming off lease,
13:02
nobody's going to buy them.
13:04
They're all going to end up at the dealer auctions.
13:07
And that is going to be a killer.
13:11
That's going to be a killer.
13:12
And there's going to be some bargains.
13:15
I told the car dealer one of the dealers on my show last week.
13:20
If I were still in the business and I had the guts to do it,
13:26
I'd buy up a bunch of these EVs at the auction.
13:33
I think I think there are people out there who if you're let me give you an example.
13:40
Just this past Wednesday.
13:43
A 2021 Mercedes EQB EQB had 40,000 miles on it.
13:54
They opened the bidding at 10 grand and nobody raised their hand.
14:07
I saw it with my own two eyes and I'm like, holy cow.
14:15
You can't buy 150,000 mile Toyota Corolla for 10 grand.
14:20
And we're talking about a 40,000 mile Mercedes.
14:25
So I love your question.
14:28
I've been wanting to talk about this and you allowed me that and I thank you for it.
14:34
But the answer to the question is no, I don't see it getting any better.
14:42
But if you're looking, if you think you can go full EV and you're looking for a bargain,
14:48
There's going to be some big ones out there.
14:50
I promise you just stay tuned.
14:52
Robert, thank you for the call.
14:54
Thank you for listening to the show.
14:55
I really, really appreciate you.
14:57
That opened the line at 800-926-7777-800-926-7777.
15:09
What are you thinking about?
15:11
We'll talk about it right here on The Car Pro Show.
15:15
If you bought a car you thought you'd love, but now you want to push it off a cliff,
15:21
get some advice from the Car Pro Jerry Reynolds on the Chase.com Car Pro Listener Line,
15:41
And next up, Tony in Woodland Hills, California.
15:45
Welcome. Tony, how can I help you?
15:49
Thank you very much. Second-time colleague.
15:51
Oh, good to have you.
15:54
Oh, I noticed that Frontier Toyota in Santa Carita, California,
15:59
Valencia was on the Car Pro list, and I didn't know that.
16:03
So I went in and just want to let you know that Chris Acopian,
16:07
Acopian, the sales manager there, just, it's fantastic.
16:12
It's such a great, great, great experience.
16:14
So thank you for, I can see why you have them on your list.
16:19
I was very, very happy.
16:20
I got a 2026 SR5 Toyota Tacoma pickup with a four-wheel drive.
16:27
Yeah, they gave me a special, Jerry, that it was funny.
16:31
I was looking at it with the sales lady the whole time,
16:33
and then all of a sudden she looked up and said,
16:35
oh, this is a 2025.
16:37
And I go, well, gosh, I'd like to get the 2026.
16:40
So it ended up that they gave me the 2026 for the exact same price as the 25.
16:46
Did you lease it or did you buy it?
16:50
No, I ended up buying it because I just retired, Jerry,
16:53
and the amount of mileage that I drive now,
16:55
compared to when I used to drive to downtown Los Angeles is very small.
16:58
So I'm going to be keeping this one for a long time.
17:00
Well, good, good for you.
17:02
Great move to buy it, not lease it,
17:05
if you're going to keep it for a long time.
17:07
And you've picked one that if you want to keep it for a really long time,
17:14
I think it'll do it.
17:17
I'm amazed at how many miles people put on Tacomas without any trouble.
17:23
I mean, it's just a dog-gone thing.
17:26
Now if we can just get the gas prices down, Jerry, right?
17:29
I think I just got it.
17:32
Well, they're going to come down.
17:35
They'll drop fast when this is over.
17:37
And I got a feeling it probably will be over very, very, very soon,
17:45
at least I hope so.
17:47
I don't think we're going to get into a long, drawn out deal here.
17:50
I don't think this president is in favor of that at all, at least.
17:55
That's what he says.
17:56
And I'm going to go with him until I know any difference.
18:01
Well, thanks for letting me know, Tony.
18:02
I appreciate the call very, very much.
18:04
And always let me know if I can do anything in the world for you.
18:09
800-926-7777, I got one line.
18:15
You can't get good advice from someone who doesn't really have a lot of experience.
18:20
That's why you need to call the car pro Jerry Reynolds before you get your next vehicle.
18:24

20:12
And welcome back to The Car Pro Show.
20:14
It's Jerry Reynolds, The Car Pro and me, Todd Chambliss.
20:17
One of the most clicked items this week in the newsletter has to do with the true cost of vehicle
20:22
And I read this with a little bit of interest because sometimes folks get into it and they
20:26
think, well, you know, getting into this car, as far as the maintenance and any vehicle related
20:31
expenses, I think maybe I'll spend about X number of dollars and company called Synchrony
20:37
did some research and apparently drivers estimated they were going to spend, you know,
20:43
just under $3,000, $27.38 a number.
20:46
But it was far more than that according to their research.
20:51
Quite a bit more, actually.
20:54
This is not even problematic stuff either.
20:57
No, no, you've just got to take everything into consideration.
21:02
And that's that's why I put the article in the free weekly newsletter.
21:06
So because I want you to think, I want you to anticipate things happening.
21:11
And a lot of people don't.
21:14
I mean, the insurance has become such an expensive piece of owning a car.
21:22
And if you like what I'm seeing is a lot of people shopping around for the first time.
21:29
They've done business with a particular agent maybe for all these years.
21:33
And then suddenly the the premium just skyrockets for whatever reason.
21:42
And they start shopping around.
21:45
And that's a good thing to do.
21:47
That's a very smart thing to do.
21:49
And it's easy now to do it online.
21:53
And that's what a lot of people are doing.
21:55
That's what you got to do.
21:57
All right, let's talk to Joe in Van Nuys, California.
22:02
What can I help you with, sir?
22:04
Hey, thank you for taking my call.
22:08
I currently have my wife.
22:13
That's just about reached its good life span for us.
22:18
And we're looking to replace it with an electric car.
22:21
I know you just were talking about electric cars.
22:24
But we've looked at the Volvo been told good things about BMW, Lexus, Toyota.
22:33
Do you have any recommendations that would be good to replace an ES350?
22:40
Y'all want to stay at about the same size?
22:46
Well, from what we've seen, most of the electric vehicles are more like an SUV size.
22:54
But if there's a good sedan that you're acquainted with or even a plug-in hybrid or hybrid,
23:01
we could probably go that way, too.
23:04
Joe, I've got a BMW i5 myself, personally, sitting in my garage right now.
23:17
It's a fantastic car.
23:20
And I looked at a bunch of electrics before I got that one.
23:24
Now, if you guys are going to keep this car as long as you've kept that Lexus,
23:32
then I really want you to make sure that an electric is right for you.
23:40
And it's not for a lot of people.
23:43
In fact, it wouldn't be for me, except that it is sort of a third car.
23:52
Got a Mercedes SUV.
23:56
I've got the BMW electric, but I'm reviewing a car every week and I spend the entire week with that.
24:04
So this BMW is sort of a special-occasion car, if you will.
24:11
And I'm uncomfortable and everybody asks, why do you have a car?
24:18
I mean, it's a year old.
24:19
It's got 1,400 miles on it.
24:22
I'm uncomfortable not having a car, my own car.
24:26
So, you know, something could happen.
24:29
All of a sudden, automakers could decide they don't want to give me cars anymore.
24:35
I'd have my car to drive.
24:37
So the things to think about is if I were, and I've said this a million times here on the show,
24:47
if I'm going to get an electric car, I'm going to lease it.
24:51
Because if I want to get out of it at the end of three years,
24:55
I'll be able to just hand somebody the keys and walk away.
25:01
And I would encourage you to look along those same lines.
25:05
If this is your very first electric car experience, you may find out it's not for you.
25:14
And with the depreciation that's on these electrics, I mean, they're losing big value quick.
25:24
Then I'd do the lease.
25:26
And at the end of the lease, if you loved it, you want to keep it, then buy it.
25:33
But at least you could get out after three years without losing your shirt.
25:41
I, we've been thinking of leasing.
25:43
We're in our mid seven beans.
25:45
So who knows how much longer we're going to be driving anyway.
25:49
But well, I hope a long time.
25:50
But, you know, I've got an article at my website, carpro.com, find the FAQ page.
25:58
There's a senior citizen section.
26:01
And I wrote an article just for seniors who are thinking about leasing.
26:06
And it's a real eye opener for a lot of people.
26:10
You might take a look at that.
26:12
And then I've got a great BMW dealer that's been with me for a decade,
26:20
Look at the I five.
26:22
It, I have, I really enjoy this car.
26:27
I like the way it rides.
26:29
I like the backseat room.
26:30
It's large, but it's not an overly large car.
26:35
I actually brought home a seven series first and decided it was just too big.
26:43
And then then, and then went to the five series.
26:46
So I think that would be a good idea for you.
26:52
The Lexus ES is about to come out in an electric car, all electric.
26:58
You mentioned plug in hybrid.
27:01
That's a, that's another great consideration.
27:05
And Lexus has those as well.
27:08
Where you run into, where you run into problems.
27:12
Joe, if you guys are going to do any traveling with the electric car is
27:18
planning your trip around finding a charger.
27:23
The plug in hybrid eliminates that.
27:27
I also find that a plug in hybrid is a good transition between going from gas to all electric.
27:36
Try the plug in, get a home charger and use it.
27:41
And then if you want to go cross country in the car, no problem.
27:46
Battery runs out, gasoline picks up, you move on, keep going.
27:51
So I know, I know I've given you a lot to think about, but this is a big decision.
27:57
I just want you guys before you go all electric.
28:00
I just want you to make sure that it's right for you.
28:09
And if you decide to look at that BMW, Bob Smith, great dealership.
28:13
They're in Calabasas.
28:15
Been with me over a decade and really good folks there.
28:23
If you're wondering about the new Dodge Charger Skat Pack, the all new charger.
28:34
I've got the two door version next week.
28:37
550 horses under the hood.
28:40
Probably some very, you know, color that's not very loud and very bright.
28:48
If you think you want a hybrid or maybe an electric, call the car pro Jerry Reynolds first.
28:54
He'll help you decide.
28:55
Call the chase.com car polis and rely now at 1-800-926-7777 interesting story in the newsletter this
29:15
week and this particular event happened in what like two weeks ago in downtown Austin,
29:21
that mass shooting that was going on.
29:23
There is an interesting thing that happened behind the scenes, which I wasn't aware of
29:27
until I read the story in the newsletter that came out yesterday involving Waymo Robo Taxis.
29:33
And this particular instance, it stopped sideways in the roadway as an ambulance was
29:38
trying to get there to help the folks who had been hurt in the shooting.
29:43
So now the folks at Waymo, they're being approached by Austin's officials.
29:47
They want to talk to them and say, what in the world's going on?
29:52
There are people screaming at the vehicle to move.
29:54
Of course it's not going to move.
29:55
It's it's Robo Taxi.
29:57
They had to get like police in there to actually, you know, get the vehicle and move it out of
30:04
So the ambulance had to back up and go out of its way to get to the that's dangerous.
30:13
We're ready for self driving cars.
30:19
Jennifer Los Angeles.
30:22
What can I do for you?
30:25
Good morning, Jerry.
30:27
My sister wants to buy a Mazda CX-50 Hybrid.
30:33
And we can't seem to find a deal on it anywhere.
30:37
It seems like all they're just sticker or hire.
30:40
We're trying to decide if, A, if there's a deal out there, if there's a reason why
30:44
they're not nobody's dealing on them or if we should wait a little longer or what we
30:50
Well, it's a very popular SUV.
30:52
There's a lot of Mazda lovers.
30:56
Mazda is one of those.
30:57
Mazda is kind of like Subaru in that the people who buy them are very loyal to them.
31:03
And they've been waiting on hybrids for a long time and they're finally out.
31:09
And so there's just we're in a situation where there's more demand than there is supply.
31:17
And so they bring a premium.
31:20
Now, a lot of dealers are even charging over sticker for the CX-50.
31:26
That's what we're finding.
31:28
But I have two dealers that will not do that in the Los Angeles area.
31:38
Huntington Beach, Mazda, Huntington Beach and Tustin Mazda.
31:44
Both those dealerships are owned by a dear friend of mine named James John Patterson.
31:51
I'd say he changed his name.
31:54
I watched the show that he wrote last night.
31:58
John Patterson, dear friend, great guy, does not would never charge one of my listeners
32:03
over sticker will probably give you a discount on one.
32:10
And if you will go to my web website, carpro.com up at the top,
32:17
you'll see kind of instructions on how to buy a car.
32:21
You'll see a button that says Select.
32:24
Click there to find a car pro dealer near you.
32:28
Put the zip code in that you guys are at and it'll pull up whichever one's closest
32:32
and give you my contact.
32:35
And that's very important that you talk to the right person
32:38
that knows me and knows what I expect from my listeners.
32:43
So they'll take their amazing dealership.
32:48
John Patterson just runs the best dealerships in the country.
32:53
It would be a dream of mine to have every single dealer on this show as good as John Patterson.
32:59
So that's how that's how I pray, believe me.
33:03
You guys are being great hands, Jennifer.
33:07
Thanks so much for your help.
33:08
I'm a long time listener and a big fan.
33:10
Well, thanks for your show.
33:11
Certainly good to have you.
33:17
Jennifer opened up a line and it can be yours right now.
33:22
This week, I've been driving the 2026 Alfa Romeo to Nali.
33:33
It's fun to say that name, too.
33:36
Makes me want a pizza.
33:38
It's a zippy little SUV and real nice inside, coming in at 48 grand on the wind district.
34:12
Happy listener time on the CarPro show.
34:15
Folks that take Jerry's advice and they come back with a great story of how it all went.
34:19
Tom, for example, in Los Angeles went to Lexus Santa Monica and he's looking for a Lexus
34:27
NX350H premium and this pretty much encapsulates the entire process of how things go when you
34:33
take Jerry's advice.
34:35
The salesman Paul there, of course, at Lexus Santa Monica, extremely helpful and friendly.
34:39
Tests draw the vehicle on both smooth and bumpy streets to demonstrate the Lexus ride and drive,
34:45
which I can attest, is fantastic.
34:47
But if I had one myself.
34:49
After presenting our CarPro VIP certificate, we got the CarPro VIP pricing offered a fair price
34:57
Paul explained the leasing process, then handled all the dealings within the dealership.
35:02
Very happy with the Lexus and the CarPro process.
35:06
Well, that is great news.
35:07
Yeah, they've been with us a long time.
35:10
Good folks to deal with.
35:13
And I'm going to tell you because this always happens.
35:18
When gas prices go up, everybody wants a hybrid.
35:23
What happens to hybrid prices?
35:25
Just like we were talking about with Jennifer just now.
35:28
CX50 hybrid, a lot of dealers charging over MSRP forum because they're hot and in demand
35:36
They can, of course.
35:38
And somebody's going to pay that.
35:42
Talk to my dealers and let's see what they'll do.
35:46
They will not gouge one of our listeners.
35:50
They're going to take care of you.
35:52
They're in it for more than just a today sale.
35:55
They want you today and in the future.
35:59
So they'll take care of it.
36:02
If you're on hold, stay there.
36:04
We've got another hour to go.
36:06
We'll be back in just a second and we'll reset and go to the phones.
