We had it fully staffed with teachers that could watch your kids while you bought a car.

I love that.

But something went awry that I didn't anticipate.

And I'll tell you that story.

And there was one common word that you used to describe all of that.

And it's it's it's good reading.

We've got a we've got a 2021 Ford Expedition Max King Ranch.

Yeah.

And I've been thinking about trading it in.

It's real low mileage, 35 only like 35,000 miles.

It pretty much sits.

Anyway, I didn't know whether I would I'm thinking about trading it in on a I was hoping

maybe a certified three-owned Toyota forerunner and maybe going fifth generation,

the last generation with the V6 that's it's been around forever and will last forever.

Oh, yeah.

Good engine.

Anyway, I didn't know as far as in the Houston area, you know, who you guys dealt with who might

still have a, you know, as far as large selection of 2025's.

Yeah, something like that.

Yeah, nobody's going to have I doubt you'll find a single 25 forerunner out there.

And if there is one, there's probably something wrong with it.

Toyota just they they they're the only car company I know that does this.

They they run out of old models right before the new models.

And they they they're excellent at planning it.

And so they never have distressed merchandise like, I mean, they're still 2025's just about

everything else out there other than Toyotas and Lexuses.

Now, I will I will tell you that I I've I've had the forerunner the new one.

I absolutely love it because it's got a lot of things that you'd be missing with a 2025

such as power tailgate didn't have it didn't offer it in the last generation.

You're used to a loaded SUV and, you know, power folding mirrors

are not available on the 2025.

That was another thing.

And there was just a lot of things that that last generation forerunner was around for a real long

time and they didn't change anything.

And until this new one came out,

there you I really don't think that's going to be your answer.

Don't worry about the new Toyota engines.

They're doing great.

Every single week, it's quick shifts in the newsletter.

Some great stories from the automotive industry and Jerry's take on them.

I guess of all the stories this week, the one involving the

it's titled the worst possible escort to the hospital.

With this particular family, they encountered their son who was having

an allergic reaction.

They tried the EpiPen and he was still having symptoms.

So they wanted to rush to the hospital.

They were speeding and along the way, state trooper clocked them 70 and a 60 and then

tried to go in and pull them over.

They were not pulling over as quickly as this trooper would like.

So he enacted the pit maneuver on them.

And well, they quickly discovered this was an emergency situation.

They did get help and everything, but now I think they're probably reviewing

a state police looking at this particular trooper and see what happened there.

Yeah, he may, he may want to consider selling cars.

Yikes.

That was rough.

Well, gosh, it's a pleasure.

I've listened to you for years and I finally have an issue.

Okay, we're going to go for you.

You, I've noticed it's almost unavoidable.

The rapid depreciation in the marketplace of so many EVs doesn't seem to have to do

much with the quality necessarily, but some people seem to be panicking

and leaving these behind.

I mean, it's a great buy for somebody who wants to pick one up.

But I'm wondering if this severe depreciation is something that maybe

only lasts another six months or a year or it's just a way of life.

No, I think it's going to actually get worse.

And here's why.

In calendar year 2026, right now, between now and the end of the year,

there are 300,000 EVs coming off lease.

So people who leased them three years ago are going to be getting out of them this year.

So the market is going to get flooded with EVs.

And anytime the market gets flooded with anything, it drives prices down.

Now, the one rare exception is Tesla.

They are still holding their value and I don't really understand it.

I like Tesla.

I like Elon.

I like their cars.

But they're holding their value and none of the other ones are.

Now, whether or not the rest of these EVs will drag Tesla down throughout this,

the rest of this year, I don't know.

We're going to have to wait and see.

But I can guarantee you this of those 300,000 EVs coming off lease,

nobody's going to buy them.

They're all going to end up at the dealer auctions.

And that is going to be a killer.

That's going to be a killer.

And there's going to be some bargains.

I told the car dealer one of the dealers on my show last week.

If I were still in the business and I had the guts to do it,

I'd buy up a bunch of these EVs at the auction.

And resell them.

I think I think there are people out there who if you're let me give you an example.

Just this past Wednesday.

Yeah.

A 2021 Mercedes EQB EQB had 40,000 miles on it.

Okay.

They opened the bidding at 10 grand and nobody raised their hand.

You're kidding.

No.

I saw it with my own two eyes and I'm like, holy cow.

You can't buy 150,000 mile Toyota Corolla for 10 grand.

And we're talking about a 40,000 mile Mercedes.

So I love your question.

I've been wanting to talk about this and you allowed me that and I thank you for it.

But the answer to the question is no, I don't see it getting any better.

But if you're looking, if you think you can go full EV and you're looking for a bargain,

get ready.

There's going to be some big ones out there.

I promise you just stay tuned.

I was looking at it with the sales lady the whole time,

and then all of a sudden she looked up and said,

oh, this is a 2025.

And I go, well, gosh, I'd like to get the 2026.

So it ended up that they gave me the 2026 for the exact same price as the 25.

Did you lease it or did you buy it?

No, I ended up buying it because I just retired, Jerry,

and the amount of mileage that I drive now,

compared to when I used to drive to downtown Los Angeles is very small.

So I'm going to be keeping this one for a long time.

Well, good, good for you.

Great move to buy it, not lease it,

if you're going to keep it for a long time.

And you've picked one that if you want to keep it for a really long time,

I think it'll do it.

I'm amazed at how many miles people put on Tacomas without any trouble.

I mean, it's just a dog-gone thing.

Now if we can just get the gas prices down, Jerry, right?

I think I just got it.

Well, they're going to come down.

They'll drop fast when this is over.

And I got a feeling it probably will be over very, very, very soon,

at least I hope so.

I don't think we're going to get into a long, drawn out deal here.

I don't think this president is in favor of that at all, at least.

One of the most clicked items this week in the newsletter has to do with the true cost of vehicle

ownership.

And I read this with a little bit of interest because sometimes folks get into it and they

think, well, you know, getting into this car, as far as the maintenance and any vehicle related

expenses, I think maybe I'll spend about X number of dollars and company called Synchrony

did some research and apparently drivers estimated they were going to spend, you know,

just under $3,000, $27.38 a number.

But it was far more than that according to their research.

Oh, yes, it is.

Quite a bit more, actually.

It's routine too.

This is not even problematic stuff either.

No, no, you've just got to take everything into consideration.

And that's that's why I put the article in the free weekly newsletter.

So because I want you to think, I want you to anticipate things happening.

And a lot of people don't.

I mean, the insurance has become such an expensive piece of owning a car.

And if you like what I'm seeing is a lot of people shopping around for the first time.

They've done business with a particular agent maybe for all these years.

And then suddenly the the premium just skyrockets for whatever reason.

And they start shopping around.

And that's a good thing to do.

That's a very smart thing to do.

And it's easy now to do it online.

And that's what a lot of people are doing.

Hey, thank you for taking my call.

You bet.

I currently have my wife.

That's 2007 Lexus.

That's just about reached its good life span for us.

And we're looking to replace it with an electric car.

I know you just were talking about electric cars.

But we've looked at the Volvo been told good things about BMW, Lexus, Toyota.

Do you have any recommendations that would be good to replace an ES350?

Y'all want to stay at about the same size?

Well, from what we've seen, most of the electric vehicles are more like an SUV size.

But if there's a good sedan that you're acquainted with or even a plug-in hybrid or hybrid,

we could probably go that way, too.

Joe, I've got a BMW i5 myself, personally, sitting in my garage right now.

All electric.

I absolutely love.

It's a fantastic car.

And I looked at a bunch of electrics before I got that one.

Now, if you guys are going to keep this car as long as you've kept that Lexus,

then I really want you to make sure that an electric is right for you.

And it's not for a lot of people.

In fact, it wouldn't be for me, except that it is sort of a third car.

Got a Mercedes SUV.

I've got the BMW electric, but I'm reviewing a car every week and I spend the entire week with that.

So this BMW is sort of a special-occasion car, if you will.

And I'm uncomfortable and everybody asks, why do you have a car?

I mean, it's a year old.

It's got 1,400 miles on it.

I'm uncomfortable not having a car, my own car.

So, you know, something could happen.

All of a sudden, automakers could decide they don't want to give me cars anymore.

And that's fine.

I'd have my car to drive.

So the things to think about is if I were, and I've said this a million times here on the show,

if I'm going to get an electric car, I'm going to lease it.

Because if I want to get out of it at the end of three years,

I'll be able to just hand somebody the keys and walk away.

And I would encourage you to look along those same lines.

If this is your very first electric car experience, you may find out it's not for you.

And with the depreciation that's on these electrics, I mean, they're losing big value quick.

Then I'd do the lease.

And at the end of the lease, if you loved it, you want to keep it, then buy it.

But at least you could get out after three years without losing your shirt.

Right.

Very good.

I, we've been thinking of leasing.

We're in our mid seven beans.

So who knows how much longer we're going to be driving anyway.

But well, I hope a long time.

And I wrote an article just for seniors who are thinking about leasing.

And it's a real eye opener for a lot of people.

You might take a look at that.

And then I've got a great BMW dealer that's been with me for a decade,

Look at the I five.

It, I have, I really enjoy this car.

I've loved it.

I like the way it rides.

I like the backseat room.

It's large, but it's not an overly large car.

I actually brought home a seven series first and decided it was just too big.

And then then, and then went to the five series.

So I think that would be a good idea for you.

The Lexus ES is about to come out in an electric car, all electric.

You mentioned plug in hybrid.

That's a, that's another great consideration.

And Lexus has those as well.

Where you run into, where you run into problems.

Joe, if you guys are going to do any traveling with the electric car is

planning your trip around finding a charger.

The plug in hybrid eliminates that.

I also find that a plug in hybrid is a good transition between going from gas to all electric.

Try the plug in, get a home charger and use it.

And then if you want to go cross country in the car, no problem.

Battery runs out, gasoline picks up, you move on, keep going.

So I know, I know I've given you a lot to think about, but this is a big decision.

I just want you guys before you go all electric.

I just want you to make sure that it's right for you.

Of course it's not going to move.

It's it's Robo Taxi.

They had to get like police in there to actually, you know, get the vehicle and move it out of

the way manually.

So the ambulance had to back up and go out of its way to get to the that's dangerous.

Oh, big time.

Absolutely.

We're ready for self driving cars.

It looks like it.

That's a mess.

My sister wants to buy a Mazda CX-50 Hybrid.

Yeah.

And we can't seem to find a deal on it anywhere.

It seems like all they're just sticker or hire.

We're trying to decide if, A, if there's a deal out there, if there's a reason why

they're not nobody's dealing on them or if we should wait a little longer or what we

should do.

Well, it's a very popular SUV.

There's a lot of Mazda lovers.

Mazda is one of those.

Mazda is kind of like Subaru in that the people who buy them are very loyal to them.

And they've been waiting on hybrids for a long time and they're finally out.

And so there's just we're in a situation where there's more demand than there is supply.

And so they bring a premium.

Now, a lot of dealers are even charging over sticker for the CX-50.

That's what we're finding.

But I have two dealers that will not do that in the Los Angeles area.

I do.

Huntington Beach, Mazda, Huntington Beach and Tustin Mazda.

Both those dealerships are owned by a dear friend of mine named James John Patterson.
