years and that is the gospel. We're seeing incentives now that were there before COVID

hit and we haven't seen them since. And I'm talking about, there's just about

something for everybody. If you're wanting zero percent, there's a ton of that out there. If

you want to lease, the lease deals got better, especially on the luxury cars and the Toyotas.

Toyotas is big in leasing. So they always throw a lot out there for Toyotathon.

If you want no payments for 90 days, that puts you sometime in late February, that's out there.

Rebates, if you're going to, if you're going to write off the interest on your car loan,

this is a great time because you'll take rebates instead of zero percent.

And then you can write the interest off on your taxes for this year. Tax code 179

for self-employed and business owners. That's in full swing right now.

So let's do this. Let's put Christopher on hold and we'll come back to him in just a

minute. All right. And we'll talk to Paula and see what we can do for her. Hi, Paula. What's going on?

Hi, how are you? I'm good, kiddo. What's up? Okay, I have a 2021 Chevy Silverado custom. I recently

found out that I had an intermittent electrical issue, so they changed the engine harness.

My question is, would I still be able to get a few more miles out of this?

Or do I need to start looking for another vehicle? No, the wiring harnesses aren't nearly as complicated

as people think because they come like all the wires together and they just got to be connected

on two ends. So there's nothing that would make me worry about if, you know, if you had a short

which thank goodness they found it because typically those are very difficult to find.

They probably did this instead of hunting for what was wrong, they probably did the smart thing

and replaced the entire harness. What was wrong with your truck before you took it in?

It would, you would go to step down to get on the freeway or change lanes and then it

acted like you didn't have no power, no gas, nothing. And you know, and then here you got

you're in traffic and you're trying to get out everybody's way and you can't.

Yeah, I get it. So they isolated it down to replacing the wiring harness and has it

seemed okay since then? That's fine since then, yes.

How many miles are on the truck right now? It now has 178,000.

What engine do you have?

The turbo, the 4.0 turbo.

Okay. I don't think at 180, coming up on 180,000 miles, if you've done the maintenance,

you've probably got another 50,000 or so without any, excuse me,

without any major problems. So I don't think that you've got to

rush out and do anything, but I've gone with the incentives and rebates and stuff that are out

there right now. I would start thinking about it, not because of the wiring harness. That has

nothing to do with it. Just the fact that you got 180,000 miles on a four-year-old truck

coming up on five years old. So it tells me that you've done a lot of highway driving, right?

Yes, I have. Okay, so that's not nearly as hard on a car. So I think you got time,

but also don't want to see you miss out on these incentives that are out there. So maybe just go

ahead sometime between now and the end of the year, get ahold of one of the Chevy dealers that

I've got there in Southern California, whichever one's closest to you, and look at some numbers

and let's see how those work out. If you find the truck that you love,

the numbers are agreeable, make the trade. Otherwise, I'd probably wait till you get a

Yeah, back at you. What can I do for you? So I have a 2019 Porsche Macan that I absolutely love.

It's been the best car I've ever owned. But I also have four kids and it's starting to get

a little cramp back there in the backseat. My oldest son is like, he's over, he's like

six foot now. So we're starting to outgrow the car. And I'm looking at getting maybe a third

row vehicle. I mean, if Porsche had a third row car, I'd get one in a heartbeat. Yeah, sure. Yep.

And so I'm kind of debating between like the BMW X7 versus the Lexus GX or the

Infiniti like QX80, I believe, you know, just looking at these cars that are a little bit bigger,

probably something with some miles on it. So I'm not having to make a big payment on it.

Sure. And it seems like there's a lot of options out there. I'm just wondering from

a reliability standpoint, I think the BMW X7 is my favorite of them. But

you know, you're looking at something probably with about 70, 80,000 miles on it. Yeah.

And that gets, I'm wondering if there's going to be some reliability issues.

Yeah, there is probably in pretty short order after that miles, after those kind of,

when you get up to 70, 80,000 miles, a BMW can get expensive. It's no different with

Mercedes. You know, I had a Cayenne for a good while, went to a Mercedes GLE

with the S63 package. So it's got 600 horses under the hood, not really practical.

We had a GLS, but it was a 2021 GLS 450, and it was nothing but problems.

It's like Range Rovers. I had a ton of those, but I knew when to get rid of them. It's no

different with a BMW or Mercedes. If you're going to go up and get a three-row in that

you know, 60, 70, 80,000 mile range, it's not as much fun as the BMW, but boy, Alexis will just

keep going and going and going and they're not nearly as expensive to repair.

Yeah, I knew what your answer was going to be, Jerry. I listened to the show a lot.

Yeah.

I know you love those Lexus cars.

Well, you know, I've never owned one myself because I think there's

what I consider for a guy that's in and out of 100 new cars a year and likes horsepower,

I consider them to be boring. But at the same time, if I want something that's reliable,

there's nothing better. Yeah.

Yeah.

Get a GX.

This doesn't have to be an exciting car for me.

My exciting car was a Lamborghini and it, unfortunately, caught fire and blew up on me.

Oh, no.

So I'm looking at maybe a 458 Italia or something like that for the fun car. But this is,

I want something luxurious and nice, but.

Christopher, what real quick, what is the absolute most you're willing to spend on this SUV?

I don't know. Maybe 40 grand total.

Okay.

You know, I got, I probably have about 20, 25 in the Porsche when I traded in. So,

you know, I don't want to have a big payment on it. It's just something to fit the family in

and get around with.

Well, look at the GX. If you could find a TX, because they're still fairly new. They've only

been out a couple of years. If you could find a TX with a little bit higher than average miles,

that might fit too. And that might be a better option than the GX 40. Take a look at those.

Hi, good morning.

Hi there.

Jerry, thank you for taking all the great show.

Thank you, sir.

I'm looking for, there is down to four cars for three rows, Q7 Audi and X7 BMW TX and Denali.

I needed a third row seat, brand new. I got 90,000 to spend. And of course,

it was in that range. What do you recommend?

What are you driving right now?

I'm driving right now Lexus GX550.

Okay. And what year is it?

It's 2020 for that car for the wife and kids.

Okay. Of the cars you listed, for me, unless it's just too big, I think the Denali,

it's the most enjoyable. It's so roomy inside and the new screens and things that they've got

in all the big General Motors, I mean, they're spectacular. And they've got so many nice features

in the Denali and the Escalade both.

Right.

I'd, you know, my personal would be the Denali. I'm next week reviewing the Lexus TX550 plug-in hybrid.

And I love the TX. I've had it once before and thought it was spectacular,

but it was, when they first came out, there was no hybrid at that time.

This is the plug-in. It's sticker in at 85 grand and it's got 404 horses. So finally,

a TX that'll get up and go. So I'm kind of looking forward to that. And that might be,

by the time I've had it for a week, you know, I might say, hey, Steve, look at that one too.

But, you know, right off the top of my head, for a lot of different reasons, room is one,

amenities is one, standard features is one. I'd personally go with the GMC Denali.

And I've got a great GMC dealer in Southern California at my website.

Welcome back to the CarPro show. Jerry Willows, the CarPro on

Todd Chambliss in this week's newsletter. The new section had one of the most clicked

articles for the newsletter talking about the average new vehicle prices dropping slightly

in October. And see if I can remember back. September, wasn't that the last month that we

had the $7,500 EV rebates in the government? It was. September 30th.

Wouldn't you think that might have something to do with the prices dropping,

the market sort of correcting and fluctuating a bit? Yeah, absolutely, because electric cars

cost more money by and large. Yeah. And that because of that surge in September that raised

prices and then nobody's buying them right now. No, no. So that would drop the prices back down,

but the incentives got better too. Well, that could play a hand too, obviously. Because,

you know, when we started October, that was the beginning of the fourth quarter.

That's the biggest incentives of the year we see are always in the fourth quarter and

particularly in November and December. So without being the case, January traditionally,

is that another month where obviously sales are obviously going to drop and the prices

will too with a correction after the big rush at the end of the year? You know,

usually I have people that say to me every single year, every year I've been around

the automobile business, I'm going to buy a car right after the first of the year.

When you go right ahead, it's going to cost you a lot of money to do that.

So it's going to be higher, probably just because the demand is going to be lower.

There'll be fewer incentives. Yeah.

And look, car prices typically don't change a lot during the year, but the incentives move

constantly. And that's, I think that's the missing thing here that a lot of people don't

understand. I've seen car prices go up during the year. It's not unusual for a manufacturer

to raise dealer cost and the MSRP by 100 or 200 bucks, maybe two or three times during the year.

But that doesn't drastically change things. What drastically changes the out the door

price that you end up paying is incentives. And that's going to affect, I mean, directly

affect the actual amount that you're financing anyway, because of the fact that it's free money,

it's free to you, certainly not from the manufacturer or the dealer really, because

that plays into their whole market plan, I would imagine.

Yeah. I mean, manufacturers have just accepted the fact that incentives are here to stay.

They're necessary. And for them, it's necessary evil.

Yeah. And so they have constantly got to monitor. Look, incentives are simple.

They're there to help the dealers sell cars so that they'll reorder them.

Because that's how a manufacturer makes their money by selling to dealers.

Manufacturers only have one customer and it's the car, it's the dealers. So when they get

overstocked and they go out to make their monthly visit to say, hey, I need you to buy 300, whatever's.

If they've already got a whole bunch, they're going to say no, thank you.

And when dealers across the country start saying no, thank you to the factory,

the smoke stops boiling out of the stacks at these factories. And that's what panics them.

So then they have to contribute money to get the smoke to come back out of the factories.

Yes.

They start making cars so that they can move them.

That's exactly right. There you go.

I'll put it as succinctly as I know how.

All right.

Manufacturer rebates is an admission that they overpriced the product.

That is interesting to me.

It's a fact.

That's kind of blunt.

Sorry.

There you go.

Well, I had deep charity and got in an accident.

And they told all this.

So I am looking at the four vehicles.

Toyota Electric, I think, is the one number one.

Number two, I'm looking at Hyundai Ionic 5.

My third option would be RF4.

And the fourth is Kia Sportage.

So I was just going to get your opinion

and see what do you think which will be the best option.

What was number one on your list there?

My number one on my list was Ionic 5.

Number two was my I was looking into Toyota.

Yeah.

But did you say electric in there somewhere?

Yes.

Toyota was, what is that, X, oh god, I'm trying to remember.

You're talking about a full electric, not a plug-in, right?

No, full electric.

Okay.

Yeah.

The the the BR4Z.

It's a BZ4X something.

Yeah.

And it's stupidest car name I've ever heard.

They're shortening it.

I've made such fun of them.

I think I'm responsible for this, but I made such fun of them

they're shortening it to just BZ for next year.

What can they do that before?

I know.

And even the Toyota dealers were shaking their head.

It's been a really good car.

Now how many miles a year are you driving?

About eight to 10.

Okay.

And I own an electric car.

My BMW is all electric and I just absolutely love it.

I'm driving an electric Equinox from Chevrolet this week.

I love it.

It's great.

Got good range.

You know, if you're going to make that transition to electric

and go all electric, then the Toyota is great vehicle.

Subaru makes a sister to that.

In fact, Toyota manufactures the Subaru for Subaru.

So it's been a good one.

It's got good range.

Dependability is there, certainly.

It looks like they're good well past 150,000 miles

before you run into any kind of issues.

If you wanted to do a transition vehicle,

the RAV4 plug-in hybrid is a great choice to see

how you really like the electric lifestyle

because you can get about 40 electric miles

before it kicks over to gas.

But if you wanted to go cross country in this vehicle,

you could do that versus the electric car,

which means you're going to have to be tracking down

charging stations.

So give that some thought.

What are your thoughts about Ionic 5?

It's been good so far.

I mean, it's not a vehicle that's been around for a very long time.

So for me to say, hey, yeah,

this car's good for 200,000 miles or 100 or 150.

I can't.

It's too new.

But I'll tell you what Hyundai's putting out right now

is some really good stuff.

I would not be afraid of it if you like it the best.

Go with it.

We've reviewed it.

It's a great.

I'm just not 100% confident in the long term reliability.

If you only think you're going to keep it 100,000 miles or so,

it'll do you a great job.

And it's very enjoyable.

And I got good dealers for everything we've talked about.

That was the big surprise.

I mean, nothing against Little Caesars.

The $6 pizzas, sometimes they come in handy,

but think about that before you leave the house 10 minutes

before they close.

And then you got all kinds of trouble

that you got to go down there.

Yeah.

Wow.

There's a story for you.

I find some bizarre stuff for that column.

So I'm in a 2024 GNC Sierra 84.

It's a 3.0 Duramax.

And I love it when it's running well.

The first couple of weeks had spent about a month in the shop.

I came from three F-150s.

I drive a lot.

I buy a lot.

I typically buy them and ride them off.

Love this thing.

I'm averaging 22.5 miles per gallon.

Do I sit in this thing?

I was looking to going back to the F-150.

I like the drive of the F-150.

I love this thing because of the gas mileage.

Yeah.

I drive a lot.

How many miles on the current truck?

Bought it last September and I just rolled 42,000 miles.

Whoa.

No, you need to be in the diesel.

You're on the right track.

Is an F-250 too big?

An F-250 isn't too big.

Oh boy, I'd look at that.

I think you'd love it.

If you like the truck you'd love that F-250.

A King Ranch or a Platinum because you're going to ride it off anyway.

You might as well get the top of the line, right?

Oh, yes, sir.

I'd look that direction and the miles you're driving,

what you're going to find out is in a three-quarter ton truck like the F-250,

you're not going to, it's not going to lose value like the gasoline trucks you've had in the past.

So if you wanted to get it up to 100,000 miles, which it'll do easily in two years

with you driving, that's probably the way for you to go.
